- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities CE OS and even royalty Adam Cox, these
- 0:21recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's world
- 0:24famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here. And if you've ever felt anxious
- 0:43on being on a big motorway, a freeway, busy roads, intense
- 0:47traffic, then you might be able to connect with the overall
- 0:51premise of this hypnosis session.
- 0:53Because I was working with a client that for years we're
- 0:57completely fine on motorways and busy roads.
- 1:00But then. A couple.
- 1:01Of things happened and it got them questioning whether or not
- 1:04they could. Handle it.
- 1:06And then that's how the seed of anxiety was formed and it grew.
- 1:09And it grew because the idea of driving on roads made them feel
- 1:13anxious that they would avoid going on roads, which then gave
- 1:16them more evidence that they couldn't cope, which then
- 1:18increased the anxiety. What this session does is.
- 1:22Starts to link. Resourceful states.
- 1:25Like confidence and. Fun, excitement, freedom,
- 1:29fearlessness to the idea of driving.
- 1:32Now, I've done a lot of work with this client before.
- 1:34This is. Taking it to a first person
- 1:37experiential perspective of imagining driving on roads that
- 1:41previously were challenging for them, but in a really
- 1:44resourceful way, and I use. Virtual.
- 1:47Reality as the metaphorical device.
- 1:51To get them. Imagining what it would be like
- 1:52to be driving on roads in a first person perspective while
- 1:55feeling confident. And we use this idea of avatars.
- 2:00When they were 18 years old, they were driving fearlessly.
- 2:02When they were 35 years old, they were driving very
- 2:06experientially and they knew how to drive and it didn't faze them
- 2:09at all. Or the future version of them
- 2:11when they're finally through this and they can drive without
- 2:14any issues. They get to choose the avatar
- 2:17and then experience these previously challenging roads to
- 2:21feel what it would feel like to be resourceful and confident
- 2:25while driving on roads that once felt beyond reach.
- 2:29So if you have motorway anxiety or driving anxiety, there might
- 2:34be certain elements in this that you can really connect to.
- 2:37Please be aware though that it was created for an individual.
- 2:40They specifically had a anxiety connected to motorways and large
- 2:45a roads and and dual carriageways.
- 2:48For you, it might be different. You know, I've worked with
- 2:50people that their fear is if it's kind of single.
- 2:54Lanes but. You know, there's what seems to
- 2:56be quite close online traffic on opposing traffic or it might be
- 3:00like winding roads in the countryside.
- 3:02This wasn't this client, but I've worked with people that are
- 3:05so hone into any suggestions that really connect with where
- 3:08your situation is. Ignore and disregard any that.
- 3:12Don't quite fit. And if you like the idea of
- 3:14having a bespoke session with me so that we get to build it
- 3:18specific to you and your particular triggers or needs,
- 3:21there will be a link in the description, but also on my
- 3:23website, whichisadamcox.co.uk. Check that out.
- 3:27Book a free consultation call, we'll have a chat and it might
- 3:30be that you experience a live session with me rather.
- 3:32Than just recordings like this one.
- 3:35For now, though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 3:38won't be distracted or disturbed.
- 3:40Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 4:17you breathe in, breathe in that slow, long, relaxing breath.
- 4:22And as you exhale, just allow your eyelids to close, and as
- 4:30they close, give permission to release any tension.
- 4:37That's it. Exhaling tension and breathing
- 4:42in relaxation. Each breath enables you to
- 4:50breathe in a feeling of resourcefulness and to exhale
- 4:58like a valve. Any pressure, any stress, any
- 5:04tension you've been holding onto.
- 5:08And what if most of that pressure, tension, and stress is
- 5:18linked to the idea that you should be doing something that
- 5:23doesn't feel like it used to feel?
- 5:32As you breathe in that feeling of resourcefulness, just scan
- 5:36your body for any clues of tension, worry, or anxiety.
- 5:43Imagine those feelings melting away, and then as you exhale,
- 5:51just imagine a dark, shadowy color leaving your body and your
- 5:55outward breath to represent that tension, anxiety or worry.
- 6:05Many people feel tension around the back of the neck, the jaw,
- 6:11around the temple, the forehead. So as you breathe in that
- 6:15feeling of relaxation, give permission to release.
- 6:20Imagine that tension leaving your body, arms and legs,
- 6:25feeling more comfortable, more relaxed.
- 6:30And if tension is around the face and the neck and the
- 6:33shoulders, anxiety is often hiding there in the gut.
- 6:40Sometimes it feels like a vice or a twisting sensation.
- 6:45And just imagine, as you breathe in that feeling of resourceful
- 6:50relaxation, any sensations there in the gut start to do the
- 6:59opposite, twisting the other way around.
- 7:04If something feels tight, allow it to expand.
- 7:08That's it. And perhaps you've already
- 7:12noticed that the deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you
- 7:17feel. And paradoxically, the more
- 7:22relaxed you feel, the deeper you breathe.
- 7:28And as your body relaxes, your imagination can awaken.
- 7:37And I want you to imagine what it would feel like to be in a
- 7:42room with the world's most advanced virtual reality
- 7:47headset. Perhaps you can imagine this is
- 7:53technology from the future available now.
- 8:00Virtual reality so good it becomes indistinguishable from
- 8:08reality. And I want you to imagine as you
- 8:15put the headset on, you are introduced to a screen where you
- 8:22can see three different versions of you.
- 8:29I want you to imagine seeing the 18 year old version of you, a
- 8:36fearless driver. Nothing phases them when they're
- 8:43behind the wheel, nothing feels daunting.
- 8:48Everything feels doable and you could experience driving from
- 8:55their perspective. But you have choice.
- 9:02The second avatar. The second option is you as a 35
- 9:08year old. A steady hand, wise experience,
- 9:14confident and calm. That version of you is relaxed
- 9:21at the very idea of driving a 7 or 8 hour drive.
- 9:28No big deal. Motorways a roads not important.
- 9:34Whatever's the fastest way is the right way.
- 9:40Or maybe you'll choose that future version of you.
- 9:48I want you to see the version of you that is happy when driving
- 9:55on any road. In any conditions.
- 10:02That version of you did have a period of their life where they
- 10:07felt anxious, but they're over that now.
- 10:12And see that future version of you, not just happy, but
- 10:16resilient. They were able to harness a
- 10:21feeling of courage, tenacity, or determination to get out the
- 10:27other side. And I want you to imagine that
- 10:33it doesn't matter which one you choose, because the next time
- 10:39you listen to this recording, you could choose a different one
- 10:46to connect different resources to that feeling of driving.
- 10:52So once you've decided which of these three avatars you will
- 10:55embody, now imagine stepping into that version of you and let
- 11:02me know by nodding your head. That's it.
- 11:17And I want you to breathe the way they breathe.
- 11:23Have the inner dialogue that they have, feel just as relaxed
- 11:30as they would feel and feel how you would feel about driving,
- 11:36the way they would feel about driving.
- 11:39Maybe it's fun, maybe it's just something pragmatic.
- 11:46Maybe it represents freedom, or maybe it represents something
- 11:51mundane that you've done 1000 times before.
- 11:57And as you connect with that, I want you to imagine in this
- 12:02virtual reality, you're not seeing a car, you're seeing your
- 12:10car. I want you to imagine opening
- 12:16the door, sitting in the driver's seat, and maybe
- 12:23starting that car. But the sensation of feeling
- 12:27your body weight in the chair makes you feel grounded and
- 12:32relaxed the very moment you feel the sensation of the steering
- 12:38wheel in the palms of your hand. You feel in control the very
- 12:47moment you start moving forward. Movement equals motivation, and
- 12:57I want you to feel that motivation.
- 13:01And if you choose to play music, music connects with that feeling
- 13:08of freedom and fun. And I want you to imagine you're
- 13:14about to go on a drive. And I want you to imagine there
- 13:21is a particular a road you have in mind.
- 13:26And I want you to imagine feeling more comfortable, more
- 13:32confident, more relaxed than you can ever remember.
- 13:38And just imagine taking those small roads, those constant
- 13:45stops and starts at roundabout or traffic lights until you're
- 13:50able to get to a slightly faster moving Rd.
- 13:55But maybe just AB Rd., maybe maybe one of those country roads
- 14:05where the traffic's moving in both directions.
- 14:12But I want you to feel connected to a smile.
- 14:17I want you to feel that same way you felt in the past when you're
- 14:23about to do something that feels like it may be just beyond
- 14:32certain ideas of what feels comfortable, maybe a jump.
- 14:42And I want you to feel then sometimes having an easy win and
- 14:50give you the confidence to do something a little bit more
- 14:53daunting. And maybe you need that and
- 14:57maybe you don't. Maybe you just feel fearless or
- 15:01confident or happy. I want you to imagine continuing
- 15:07to drive until you find a slip Rd. that is feeding into an A
- 15:15Rd. But I want you to feel that any
- 15:22signposts are now a signal that you have the resources required.
- 15:30Every signpost is a signpost of capability and as the slip word
- 15:39merges into that a road, I want you to feel that you are merging
- 15:45with every version of you that knows how to confidently, calmly
- 15:53and relax. Drive.
- 15:57See what you would see joining that stretch of Rd. on that
- 16:02junction. But notice how you're handling
- 16:06the wheel. That steering wheel feels
- 16:09relaxed. Maybe it's loose, one hand near
- 16:16the bottom. Maybe your other arm is just by
- 16:21your side. Maybe there's someone in the car
- 16:25with you and you could imagine chatting and feeling relaxed.
- 16:29Or maybe maybe you've got the music turned up high and it just
- 16:34feels like that version of you that is carefree and I want you
- 16:42to make the evaluation while you're on that first stretch.
- 16:50I can do this. I want it to feel like this is
- 16:56well within your capabilities. I want you to think while you're
- 17:03on that road. But if a small child starts to
- 17:09think there's a monster under their bed or in the closet, all
- 17:17they have to do is to look under the bed or open the closet to
- 17:22see that the monster was never real.
- 17:25But they don't, because the monster's too scary, and every
- 17:31time they don't look, the monster gets bigger and bigger.
- 17:38But what if this whole game of anxiety is a bluff?
- 17:44What if where it all came from was just a false positive?
- 17:55A day when you felt overwhelmed and drowsy?
- 17:59A day when you may have even had a fever and a thought popped
- 18:06into your head. I can't do this.
- 18:09Not because you couldn't drive, but because of another reason.
- 18:16In which case, what if all the anxiety has not come from the
- 18:21challenge of driving on these roads, but by a self fulfilling
- 18:27prophecy of thinking that it was something beyond reach?
- 18:33That would be like trying to put out a fire but using petrol
- 18:39instead of water. The very thing you were doing to
- 18:44help made the thing worse. But now, as you imagine driving
- 18:50on that a road connected to a feeling of resourcefulness, of
- 18:56calm confidence, it's almost like you're like that child
- 19:01that's looked under the bed and finally realized that the
- 19:07monster was never real. And when you know the monster
- 19:12isn't real, how difficult does it become for the monster to
- 19:17come back? And I want you to imagine
- 19:21choosing to spend maybe an extra 2 junctions there on that a Rd.
- 19:32not because you should, but just because you could.
- 19:38It dawns on you that you're choosing all of this.
- 19:42And sometimes choosing to do something that at one point felt
- 19:47beyond reach can feel liberating.
- 19:52Maybe you call it courage, More faith, more stubbornness, more
- 19:58tenacity. The word doesn't matter, but
- 20:03feeling a resource to do something is the very thing that
- 20:08makes the monster disappear. Connect to that feeling of calm
- 20:14confidence and then see a signpost to leave this stretch
- 20:22of the road. And as you leave, maybe there's
- 20:31a roundabout, or maybe it just filters directly into a dual
- 20:35carriageway. And I want you to feel that this
- 20:40feels well within reach. I want you to imagine feeling
- 20:46that the dual carriageway, like the A road, now, feels within
- 20:53your comfort zone, not beyond it.
- 20:57And the more time you spend thinking that way, the more you
- 21:03will create a desire to do the thing the deep down you already
- 21:10know you're able to do. Just like when you saw those
- 21:16jumps and sometimes you thought a Biddle a bit too long on those
- 21:23jumps. And the longer you thought, the
- 21:29more it felt beyond reach until the moment clicked.
- 21:35And maybe you said something to yourself, something like I'm
- 21:42just going to do it. And you did.
- 21:47And notice how quickly you went from anxiety to a
- 21:53accomplishment, excitement, pride, just based on a decision
- 22:03followed by action. And I want you to feel that
- 22:08these roads are not the problem. They are the Canary in the coal
- 22:16mine. They let you know how you're
- 22:19progressing when you start to do things that before you were
- 22:24avoiding. Your comfort zone is expanding,
- 22:29and when the comfort zone keeps on expanding until there isn't a
- 22:34single Rd., motorway or weather condition that would feel
- 22:39daunting to you, then this fear is banished forever.
- 22:47Rather than looking at things to avoid, your mind takes you to a
- 22:52place of challenges to overcome, and each one makes the next one
- 22:59easier. A busy single lane makes a slow
- 23:08dual carriageway seem easy. An empty dual carriageway makes
- 23:15you feel that you can handle a busy dual carriageway.
- 23:22A busy dual carriageway makes you feel that you can do an A
- 23:27Rd. on some mid morning or late afternoon, avoiding rush hour.
- 23:39And when you've done it without much traffic, your mind will let
- 23:43you know that you can then do it with traffic.
- 23:48And if you can do an A road with traffic, then you can join a
- 23:56motorway where there is none. And when you feel comfortable on
- 24:02that motorway without traffic, as more traffic starts to
- 24:06appear, it still feels within the comfort zone.
- 24:12And I want you to imagine each level is expanding your comfort
- 24:18zone. You're still connected to that
- 24:21feeling of fearless, calm confidence.
- 24:26Every time you do something beyond the previous limitation,
- 24:29you feel happy. Because what is happiness if it
- 24:33isn't growth, if it isn't expanding choices and
- 24:38possibilities? And then allow this virtual
- 24:43reality headset to take you to a combination where two busy
- 24:50motorways connect in a big city. And rather than this being
- 24:58daunting, you feel like the hero meeting, meeting their nemesis.
- 25:11And rather than feeling intimidated, you feel
- 25:14courageous. Rather than feeling daunted, you
- 25:19feel excited. And I want you to imagine that
- 25:23you are in your car, driving around 2 busy motorways just
- 25:34long enough for you to feel bored.
- 25:39Because here's the irony. Most people think that facing
- 25:43their fear is going to feel exhilarating, but that's not the
- 25:51real goal. The real goal is to keep doing
- 25:57it until it becomes meaningless. And when it becomes meaningless
- 26:06and something that may used to make you feel anxious makes you
- 26:09feel bored, then that's when the fear is dead.
- 26:21And I don't know if this will take days or weeks or months.
- 26:28All I know is that you already have the normal pathways that
- 26:33know how to drive confidently on any road.
- 26:38You've had moments of driving on major roads in different
- 26:42countries with different rules and signs, and you were fine.
- 26:47And what if all of this is just that tiny monster that was
- 26:54allowed to grow and it felt scary because you kept on
- 27:01avoiding it? And now you're willing to open
- 27:07that closet? Look under the bed, but from a
- 27:12place of choice. Courage, tenacity, not
- 27:19obligation. When you choose to do it, it
- 27:22sets you free. When you feel like you have to
- 27:25do it, it deprives you of the win.
- 27:31And I want you to imagine experiencing a future one year
- 27:35from now. Can you imagine doing a long
- 27:40journey with many motorways and it just feels like you're more
- 27:48interested on what music you're playing and what's going to
- 27:51happen when you get there, what roads you're on, the type.
- 28:00And anything like that is almost meaningless.
- 28:08And if your unconscious can connect, let me know by nodding
- 28:12your head. That's it.
- 28:23And then imagine driving back in reverse order, all the way back
- 28:28to your home, feeling calm and confident, relaxed and fairness.
- 28:34Perhaps with relief or liberation, but not necessarily
- 28:42that. Spring calls on the icing on the
- 28:44cake, not the cake itself. And then when you return home,
- 28:51feel like you're drifting back to where you are now, taking all
- 28:56these wonderful changes with you and feeling like you have primed
- 29:02the very ways of thinking so that you want to take what
- 29:09happens in your imagination and make it real.
- 29:13So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 29:19nose. Wiggle your fingers, wiggle your
- 29:22toes, connect and calibrate into the here and the now as I now
- 29:28count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 29:33Starting to count 123, waking up 45.
- 29:36Six more alert. 7-8 Open your eyes, Open your eyes. 910 Wide
- 29:43awake, Wide awake, wide awake, thank.
