- Jessica Figueroa: Hello, everyone. We are back here with the Just for Today podcast. And today, for all of my listeners out there that love routine, love structure, big fans, this one is for you guys. So just for today, we're gonna do everything out of order, like a topsy turvy day. Which means if you normally put your shoes on and you put your right foot on first, I want you to put your left foot on first. If you normally normally back out of your driveway to the left, I want you to back out of your driveway to the right. If you normally brush your teeth and then start your makeup, I want you to start your makeup and then brush your teeth. Whatever you normally do, I want you to do it just slightly out of order. You can still get it done. I just want you to do it slightly out of order. Take a different way to work. I want you to hold the phone with your other hand today. I want you to Flip through a book backwards, maybe. Maybe you flip through a book with your right hand. I want you to try with your left hand. Maybe you hold the remote with your right hand. I want you to try with your left hand. If you sleep alone and you sleep on the right side of the bed tonight, I want you to sleep on the left side of the bed. If you have a spot on the couch, you're not allowed to sit in it tonight. If you normally come in and put all your belongings down at one station, not tonight, you're gonna put them down somewhere else. Today, I want no such routine. Today we are going to be autopsy turvy today. A topsy turvy day today. Why are we going to do this? Because some routines are serving us. Most of them are, but some aren't. Therefore, until we kind of disrupt all of them, we can't quite be sure which ones are serving us and which ones aren't. I remember one time I had a house organizer come. I need a lot of help in this area. And up until this house person had come and helped me organize. I had always kept my jars of spaghetti sauce in the same spot. And the spot they were in, about once a year I would knock a spaghetti jar off, pulling something else out of the pantry, and a jar of spaghetti sauce would break and shatter everywhere. And if you haven't had this happen to you, it goes everywhere. And then of course there's glass everywhere, because these were glass jars. It is quite the mess. And this would happen about once a year. And I did not change my behavior. I kept the spaghetti jars in the same spot. And once a year, about one would spell. Then I hired this house organizer to come in and I wasn't there this day that she came in. And then later that day, or maybe the next time I went to get a jar of spaghetti sauce, she had moved them to a different location. I was shocked. I was shocked because the location that she had moved them to was a drawer where it would be impossible to drop and break one. And I am an intelligent person and I had had this problem that I could not solve on my own. So disrupting our natural routines helps us to think differently and consider another option. So maybe the place where you come in the house and put all your stuff down, maybe that's not the best spot for it. But you've been doing it so long for so many years, you're not even stopping to consider. There might be a more efficient or more effective, maybe it worked when you started doing it and it doesn't work anymore. So just for today, we're having a topsy turvy day. Whatever is in your routine, you're going to disrupt it just a little bit. To get those mental juices flowing and think about all of those things you do in your day without thinking, we're gonna think about them today. Drive somewhere different, do something different, call someone different, wear different earrings, put your lipstick on different, wear mascara on one eye. I don't care. Get crazy. It's your topsy turvy day. Have fun with it. I promise this will help you think about things and eventually improve something in your routine that needs to be improved. I love topsy turvy days. Have fun with this guys. Enjoy. Laugh at yourself. Enjoy. Have a topsy turvy day. You might want to tell your family you're doing this so they don't think you've gone cuckoo. I'll talk to you guys tomorrow.
