Transcript
- 0:00Today's episode is sponsored by the sun. It feels so good when you sit in it for a while,
- 0:05but not too long, then you really get tired and more than likely get burnt.
- 0:10If the hands have been cleansed prior to washing the body, we know that it's less likely to
- 0:14transfer, say, bacteria or other potential infection. A dermatologist on why we should
- 0:20use our hands to wash our body in the shower instead of a loofah or a washcloth. Insert
- 0:26theme song here. This is the Daily Sarcast. I give you the news and maybe a laugh. I'm
- 0:30Lindsay Vernick and today is June 17th, 2026. Hey guys, what's up? I hope that you've been
- 0:37enjoying the video pods lately. On Friday, I had a random comedian. I just met Max come on the pod
- 0:44and we talk about comedy and dating and being Jewish and going to like to going to both boys
- 0:52and girls overnight camps. So make sure you check that out. And then yesterday I had Emily on the
- 1:01pod. She's one of my good friends and I did the Daily Sarcast format for her and she kind of
- 1:07responded and we chatted a bunch and super fun. So make sure you check that out and let me know
- 1:13if you want to be my next guest on the pod. Also, Emily and I are doing a fun show tonight down at
- 1:20the pit. If you're around, it's in Midtown. We wrote this really fun sketch together and some
- 1:27actors will perform it tonight at the pit. So let me know if you want more info on that, but I'm
- 1:33really excited. It should be cool to actually watch a sketch of mine come to life. So in real news,
- 1:40remember that Florida IVF story where the couple had a baby and then they found out it was actually
- 1:47not their genetic child? Like the hospital version of you got the wrong lunch order,
- 1:52but the human kind? Well, kind of a plot twist. It's still going. The couple in the middle of
- 2:00this whole embryo mix-up has now reached a custody agreement with the baby's biological parents.
- 2:05So yeah, there are now officially two sets of parents involved in this situation, which is
- 2:11exactly as emotionally complicated as it sounds. So here's the update. The couple who carried and
- 2:17have been raising the baby will keep her as the permanent custodial parents. The biological
- 2:23parents who were located after genetic testing confirmed the embryo mix-up are not taking custody,
- 2:29but they are expected to maintain a relationship with the family. So the baby is staying where
- 2:35she's been since birth, but now this is turning into a co-parenting situation from hell.
- 2:41Quick rewind here if you have no idea what I'm talking about. This all started at a Florida IVF
- 2:47clinic where an embryo was implanted incorrectly into the wrong person. The mistake only came to
- 2:54light after the baby was born and looked so different from the parents, so much so that
- 3:02they had genetic testing done to prove that the baby is very much 100% South Asian while both
- 3:09parents are very much white, which is not how surprise features usually arrive. This clinic
- 3:17is now facing lawsuits and has since shut down operations because yes, they implanted the wrong
- 3:23embryo and then quietly exited stage left like a magician who just set the curtains on fire.
- 3:28The takeaway here is that everyone involved is trying to do something unprecedented.
- 3:33Legally divide biology from parenting in real time without completely emotionally
- 3:37detonating a family. The courts are saying, actually we're going to prioritize who raised
- 3:42the baby over who contributed their DNA, which is either very modern family law or the opening
- 3:48scene of a dystopian HBO series. Anyway, baby is with the only parents she's known. Biological
- 3:55parents are in the picture. Lawyers are still billing and IVF clinics everywhere
- 4:00are triple checking every freezer door like it's Fort Knox. Yum Brands, the company that owns
- 4:07Pizza Hut, KFC and Taco Bell just sold Pizza Hut for $2.7 billion after years of sales have been
- 4:15going down and not being able to keep up with dominoes. This will now split the company into
- 4:21two. Private equity firm Long Range Capital gets Pizza Hut everywhere except for China,
- 4:27while Yum China buys the China side of the business. Pizza Hut has been having a rough
- 4:33stretch for a while now. Sales have been down for a very long time, stores have closed,
- 4:39and the chain has struggled against rivals like dominoes while people cut back on spending. Yum
- 4:44Brands started exploring a sale last year and ultimately decided Pizza Hut will be better off
- 4:49under different ownership. Maybe people just realized they would rather have dominoes or maybe
- 4:55it's Ozempic. In very crazy and super exciting news, Serena and Venus Williams got the wild
- 5:03card entry into the doubles tournament at Wimbledon Championships, making their first
- 5:08Wimbledon appearance together in years. Serena just got back to competing again after nearly
- 5:1440 years away from professional tennis. Now the sisters will once again team up on the courts
- 5:23together where they won 6 doubles titles once before. Together they have won 14 Grand Slam
- 5:31doubles titles and 3 Olympic gold medals as a team. Serena is 44 and Venus turns 46 this week,
- 5:39giving Wimbledon one of the biggest storylines before the tournament even starts, which is in
- 5:44a week or two. Meanwhile, every other women's doubles team right now is all googling,
- 5:51how can I fake a hamstring injury? In Lindsay life, last night my sister and I cooked dinner
- 5:57together and by that I mean that she cooked me dinner. After we went to see Moulin Rouge
- 6:04because she won lottery tickets, it was super fun. I would semi-highly recommend going. I think I
- 6:10would just recommend going. My sister thinks I'm too much of a critic, especially for somebody who
- 6:15has no idea what Broadway is like. Like of course I could never in a million years imagine performing
- 6:22on Broadway, but you know when you just see a show and you're like, I'm not, I don't feel it. Like I
- 6:27just wasn't feeling the energy. Like I want to feel that they're all belting out their little hearts
- 6:33and it didn't feel like that and that's what I want when I see Broadway. But maybe that's just me,
- 6:39maybe I'm crazy. Things I'm thinking about. How I kind of just found out that the World Cup is
- 6:45happening here and that's why it's been so freaking busy. I thought everyone was just like
- 6:50watching the game in the city. I didn't realize like people were playing the soccer games in like
- 6:57the tri-state area. Cooking tip of the day. If you cook dinner with someone and prove that you're not
- 7:03a big help with the cooking, they won't need your help and you don't have to cook. Feedback, comments,
- 7:08questions, a nice Jewish boy looking for a date, email me at lindsay at thedailysarcast.com.
- 7:13Thanks so much for listening. Have a great day and I will talk to you guys tomorrow.
