Latest / True Crime with Gavin Fish / Why Did It Take So Long to Arrest Daniel Martell? What Else Is He Hiding? | Lilly & Jack Sullivan
Transcript
- 0:01News broke late last week that 34 year old Daniel Martel, the
- 0:06so-called stepfather of missing Pictou County, Nova Scotia
- 0:11children Lily and Jack Sullivan, had been arrested and charged
- 0:15with some egregious crimes not relating to Lily and Jack, but
- 0:22late relating to another adult. And this is at this has made me
- 0:26just start to question the whole thing, start to question the
- 0:30whole thing. Everything that I thought I knew
- 0:33about this case, it's now crashing down around me and I
- 0:38can't wait to talk about it. This video contains mature
- 0:53themes and discussions intended only for adult audiences.
- 0:57Viewer discretion is advised. Hello there, my friend, and
- 1:02welcome back to another true crime conversation with me,
- 1:04Gavin Fish. So glad you are joining me
- 1:07wherever you're joining me from. And if you're new here, what I
- 1:11ask of you is to tell me where you're joining me from in the
- 1:16comments. I just, I don't know.
- 1:18I love that I love it. So please do.
- 1:21Today we are talking about the case of missing Nova Scotia
- 1:27children Lily and Jack Sullivan. Guys, this is a case that I
- 1:31think has broken all of our hearts.
- 1:34This is a case And you know what?
- 1:39Anytime children go missing, it is heartbreaking, right?
- 1:44And you start to think, you hold out hope and you want them to
- 1:48come back. And then that hope for them
- 1:53wanting to come back starts to change.
- 1:55And you start to hope that at least there will be some type of
- 2:00resolution so that we know what happened to them.
- 2:03I, I, I keep thinking about little Melody Buzzard, right?
- 2:05We didn't, we'd certainly didn't want to find out what happened
- 2:10to her did happen to her, but at least we know what happened to
- 2:13her. And the justice system can, can
- 2:17move on, right? Can can go its course and hold
- 2:22responsible the person that we think is responsible.
- 2:27This one, Lily and Jack Lily six years old Jack was four years
- 2:32old when they disappeared from their stepfather's home.
- 2:38This is a picture of the home in Lansdowne area of Pictou County
- 2:42in Nova Scotia. And they've just vanished.
- 2:47They just, they've vanished. And it's not like there hasn't
- 2:51been some serious effort put into finding these children.
- 2:56I mean, there were helicopters in the air, drones in the air.
- 2:59There are people walking through swampy woods, thousands of
- 3:03volunteers, so many, so many members of the RCMP and other
- 3:09first responders looking for these two kiddos and nothing we
- 3:17don't. We still to this day don't know
- 3:20what happened. Now, when this happened, they
- 3:24were living with their mom, Malia Brooks Murray, and her
- 3:29domestic partner, who's been called their stepfather, Daniel
- 3:35Martel. If you remember, you know,
- 3:40here's a, here's a photo of the whole family because Daniel and
- 3:45Malia have a little girl together.
- 3:48And then there are a total of four other children.
- 3:52So there are five children in this blended family, right?
- 3:57If you will remember, Malia Brooks Murray spoke to the press
- 4:03right at the beginning. This was May 2nd, 2025.
- 4:07And then she went away. We, we did not hear from her
- 4:13ever again. In fact, why don't we, why don't
- 4:17we real quick watch what it was that she said back on May 4th of
- 4:232025, two days after the children went missing?
- 4:27Let's see. I'm just staying as hopeful as
- 4:29possible. I want them home.
- 4:31I want to hold them and I want them home.
- 4:36What happened was we woke up, I heard them playing in the next
- 4:39room beside us and I was drifting in and out of sleep.
- 4:43And they're not the type of kids that we tell them not to go
- 4:46outside on their own. We always make sure that we're
- 4:48out there with them, watching them.
- 4:51And they happened to just get out that sliding door and we
- 4:55can't hear it when it opens. And they were outside playing,
- 5:00but we weren't aware of it at the time.
- 5:02And the next thing we knew the like it was quiet.
- 5:06And we get up and I tell him, my partner Daniel, I tell him, do
- 5:12you hear the kids? And he says no.
- 5:14And we get up instantly. We're we're looking outside,
- 5:17we're looking everywhere, yelling for them.
- 5:19And I instantly just called 911. It's just, I just had the
- 5:24instinct I needed to call. They're both really go lucky
- 5:27children. They're so sweet.
- 5:29They talk to anyone. They'll talk your year off.
- 5:33They they will speak to anyone in a store, everyone.
- 5:40They're just extremely sweet kids.
- 5:42I appreciate the huge surf search effort going on right
- 5:48now, but we've been pushing for an Amber Alert which hasn't been
- 5:55issued. Not just that they could
- 5:58possibly be abducted, which it is a possibility that they could
- 6:01have been, but just an alert to let everyone know that they are
- 6:05missing. We had people text me saying
- 6:09that they weren't aware. Someone else let them know that
- 6:12they were missing and it would be just be nice if everyone
- 6:15could be alerted. We thought maybe that we found
- 6:18tracks, but it's still uncertain.
- 6:21It's been raining and they're probably soaking wet, but with
- 6:24the sun today I'm hopeful that they are feeling warm.
- 6:29We're all filled with pain and sorrow because we just want them
- 6:33found. We want them home.
- 6:36Everyone loves them. They are definitely verbal and
- 6:40they do have possible autism, but it's not extreme autism.
- 6:45It's just they have issues with school and they don't catch up
- 6:55with the other kids. I'm just, I just want to remain
- 6:57hopeful. But there's always in a mother's
- 7:03mind, you're always thinking the worst.
- 7:05Last night was one of the worst nights because I didn't have
- 7:08them in their beds and I don't want to go through that another
- 7:15night without them. I'm.
- 7:17OK, so that last part for me was the the most suspicious thing.
- 7:22I don't see a tear. And it's all about me, me, me,
- 7:26me, me, right. That that's what I remember
- 7:29feeling at the time, like, and then and then she was just gone.
- 7:33She was just gone. And you know, there were rumors
- 7:37about where she had gone, but there was nothing official that
- 7:40said this is where she is. She just wasn't there.
- 7:42She wasn't helping with the with the search.
- 7:46She wasn't helping with with anything.
- 7:49It it seemed, at least that's the way it appeared, right?
- 7:53We can't say for certain that that is the way it was.
- 7:56It's just that's the way that it appeared.
- 7:58Now Daniel, on the other hand, was sticking around.
- 8:04Let me, we're going to, we're going to start just just to
- 8:09remind ourselves a couple of little news pieces.
- 8:13They're each a couple of minutes long.
- 8:14This one from who's this from? I can't remember Global News, so
- 8:21this is what Daniel is doing at that time.
- 8:22We were searching, we covered every, everywhere possible.
- 8:27Even in the first day we did, even with me running through the
- 8:30woods of the head of the helicopters and head of the
- 8:32drones and stuff like that. Screaming, screaming loud as I
- 8:35can, just until my throat hurt, running through water that was
- 8:39up to my waist. And as soon as I got back, I
- 8:41wasn't allowed back in the woods until a man dressed in military
- 8:44outfit said I could go back into the woods.
- 8:48Four days into the search for his missing step kids, Lily and
- 8:51Jack Sullivan, Daniel Martel is pleading with the public to keep
- 8:54their eyes peeled. But he has begun to lose hope.
- 8:56They are anywhere in the vicinity.
- 8:59I hate being wet and cold so the immediately would have came
- 9:01right back into the house. The only two prints are right
- 9:02beside the house facing the road, and then that's it.
- 9:06Martel wants the search to be extended to include provincial
- 9:09borders in case the children were abducted, a reality he says
- 9:12is becoming more and more likely.
- 9:14Post any officers they can get at the New Brunswick border,
- 9:20PIPI border and get them at every every every airport
- 9:24possible. Martell confirmed that when the
- 9:27two children went missing from the home behind me, Lily was
- 9:30wearing a pink shirt and pink rain boots.
- 9:32She was also carrying a white backpack with strawberries on
- 9:35it. Martell says although he didn't
- 9:36see Jack that morning, he is believed to be wearing a brown
- 9:39shirt, brown pants with a pull up diaper on underneath and blue
- 9:43rain boots with dinosaurs on them.
- 9:45He also refuted the claim that the two children are non verbal,
- 9:48saying while they are on the autism spectrum, they are quite
- 9:51trusting and say hi to everyone. According to Martel, his side of
- 9:54the family are currently the only ones at Ground Zero after
- 9:58Lily and Jack's mother left the county Saturday.
- 10:00But still, he remains begging anyone with answers to come
- 10:03forward and bring his children home safe.
- 10:06Anybody with any information or you think you've seen something
- 10:09or hear something or any any messages from friends about
- 10:12hearing something? Just contact your local, local
- 10:15police services. Any anything guys, anything.
- 10:19OK, so at the time I remember thinking, you know what?
- 10:23You know what happens when somebody is guilty?
- 10:26They try to to take care of the situation, stay ahead of the
- 10:32situation, talk to the media. And I'm thinking of just idiots
- 10:37here, right? Chris Watts, for example, right?
- 10:41However, when I watched this, this part of it, you know, he's
- 10:45the only one who shed a tear. And there were there were a
- 10:48couple interviews that he did where he was, he was breaking
- 10:53down emotionally. I thought to myself, well, I
- 10:56mean, maybe he's innocent, right?
- 11:02Maybe he is. And we, we got reports pretty
- 11:06early on, though they are from him who said he submitted to a
- 11:09polygraph test that he passed. Of course, the police didn't
- 11:13tell us that. He told us that, right?
- 11:16Well, anyway, I'm belaboring this, right?
- 11:18I'm belaboring it. You guys, I'm burying the lead.
- 11:21You guys want to know what has been the news?
- 11:26OK, so let's, I'm just going to bring you this report right
- 11:30here. This was from January 29th.
- 11:34Here we go. This one's about a minute and a
- 11:36half long. Daniel Martel is facing charges
- 11:39of sexual assault, assault and forcible confinement.
- 11:43Martel is the. Step.
- 11:44So he is facing charges of SA assault, which would be a
- 11:50physical, you know, I don't know if it's simple or aggravated.
- 11:53I have no idea. And false confinement, which in
- 11:58many places that is considered kidnapping.
- 12:02So that means you did not let a person, did not allow that
- 12:07person the freedom of leaving a situation, freedom of movement.
- 12:11Those are the those are the charges.
- 12:13Father of missing children Lily and Jack Sullivan RCMP have
- 12:17confirmed they arrested 34 year old Martel on Monday.
- 12:21Police say the victim is an adult but are not providing any
- 12:24more details. OK, I'm just going to reiterate
- 12:28here the the victim is not a child.
- 12:30It's it's not an arrest directly related to Jack and Lily.
- 12:37It's an adult who he's being charged with SA assault and
- 12:45false confinement, false imprisonment, kidnapping.
- 12:48That is basically what that is. And I'm, I'm wondering who that
- 12:52person is now in Canada, they, they don't release this sort of
- 12:56stuff the way they do in most of the United States.
- 12:59So we don't know who the victim is, but let's continue.
- 13:03Martel was living with Lily, Jack and their mother when the
- 13:06children went missing from his family home in Lansdowne, Nova
- 13:10Scotia, last May. And remember, his mom was living
- 13:13in that RV out in the back. We saw a very colorful
- 13:19character. The woods surrounding the home
- 13:22was searched for days and RCMP Major Crimes has been conducting
- 13:26an extensive investigation, but little is known about what
- 13:30happened to the children and so far the case has not turned.
- 13:33The idea is not. Earlier this month, RCMP Staff
- 13:36Sergeant Rob Mccammon said none of the children's family members
- 13:40are suspects. I wouldn't say anybody's a
- 13:42suspect. Again, we continue to gather
- 13:45information and and whatever evidence that we are able to to
- 13:49find and we'll make our decisions based on that.
- 13:51But we are not in a position to really comment on suspects or
- 13:55anything like that at this time. The mysterious nature of their
- 13:58disappearance has garnered international media attention.
- 14:02Martel has spoken publicly about what happened that day and the
- 14:05months that have followed. Martel is due in Pictou
- 14:08Provincial court on March 2nd. Ali Thompson, CBC News, Halifax.
- 14:14The let me just do that, OK, The I don't know, I want to hear
- 14:22what you guys have to have to say about this.
- 14:25And it's certainly an not a conviction.
- 14:30He is being charged with SA with assault and false confinement.
- 14:35He has not been convicted of those things.
- 14:37I I am wondering if in the course of their investigation,
- 14:45and this is, this is total speculation here guys, this is
- 14:49and I try really hard to stay away from this, but we just
- 14:53don't have all that information, all that much information.
- 14:57Court records were released what in the last few weeks through
- 15:02the CBC and other outlets that Malia Brooks Murray, the the
- 15:10mother of the children had complained that he had been
- 15:13physical with her before. And if any of you are in Canada,
- 15:19in fact, I should check I should check where you guys are tuning
- 15:21in from. I would love to know if there's
- 15:25a statute of limitations on SA in Canada.
- 15:31Maybe we'll look that up as we go along.
- 15:33Let me let me go and check to see.
- 15:35Let's bring up Lily and Jack and do do, do, do, do, do, do, do.
- 15:41Let's bring up where you guys. Let's start with where are you
- 15:45guys from? Where are we from?
- 15:48Marietta, GA is in the house. See if that's going to work.
- 15:52Let me push the right button. Gavin or Javi, push the right
- 15:55button. Javi, come on up.
- 15:58There we go. Thanks, Javi.
- 15:59Thanks for figuring that one out.
- 16:01We got Austin here. Let's see, we got do, do, do,
- 16:06do, do, do, do. We do have a verdict in on
- 16:09Banfield. We're going to talk about that
- 16:11in a little bit. Salvador, Brazil is in the
- 16:14house. Oregon is here.
- 16:17Lake George, NY, Iowa, Berlin is here.
- 16:22Nyack, NY, Kokomo IN Suffolk, UK, B Town, Wisconsin, we got
- 16:27Indiana. Jacksonville, FL, New Zealand is
- 16:30here. Seattle, WA, Fredonia, Detroit,
- 16:34Houston, Cleveland, Kansas, Santa Barbara, so many, so many
- 16:39different places. Thanks for thanks for tuning in,
- 16:41guys. Really appreciate that.
- 16:45Yeah, Fisher says not to sidebar, but did you hear about
- 16:48the guilty verdict on Banfield? I did.
- 16:50And we will talk about that in headlines.
- 16:52Thank you very much for bringing that up, Fisher Blue says.
- 16:56Wasn't it a rainy day thinking would kids go out in the rain to
- 17:00play or walk off? Yeah, I it was a rainy day.
- 17:06There was swampy area in the property around the house.
- 17:10And I would imagine with those conditions is really hard to
- 17:14track the kids. Yeah.
- 17:17Scotch's mom asking how does he know what they were wearing if
- 17:20he and partner were lying in bed?
- 17:25Yeah. I mean, there are questions on
- 17:27this case that are just very, very difficult to answer.
- 17:30And I think, well, it's just it's hard to know.
- 17:36It's hard to know what police have.
- 17:39I am not a person, by the way. And I think I'm a pretty good
- 17:43avatar for most dudes. If I like bathed and dressed my
- 17:49little ones the night before, I would not be able to tell you
- 17:53the next morning what jammies they were in.
- 17:57Like I wouldn't be able to do that.
- 18:00I just saw my wife, what, 2 minutes before we started this
- 18:05show and I cannot tell you what she was wearing.
- 18:10I don't pay attention. I I do pay attention to like she
- 18:14she looks great, right? Looks good, but I have no idea.
- 18:17So I, I don't know, but mom's on the other hand, like my, my wife
- 18:23can tell you what I'm wearing right now.
- 18:24She could tell you what all the kids are wearing right now.
- 18:26She pays attention to those things, right.
- 18:28So I don't know, maybe they just knew what jammies the kiddos
- 18:33were in the night before. I guess I don't, I'm trying to
- 18:37play devil's advocate here. Scotch's mom, but it's, it's a
- 18:40good question. Peanuts mom is saying maybe the
- 18:44mom is gone because they have been suspecting him all along.
- 18:48Yeah. And especially with the
- 18:50information that came out in court records over the last few
- 18:55weeks, that maybe Malia was like, this is my chance.
- 18:58He's surrounded by police. He's surrounded by first
- 19:01responders. I can get out of here with a
- 19:03baby and we can be safe. Maybe.
- 19:06Maybe that's what happened there.
- 19:07I don't know, Jenny says. I think it's a possibility that
- 19:13the kids did wander off, but I have darker ideas on how that
- 19:17went down. Martel and mom were trying to
- 19:21sleep. Kids were loud.
- 19:22They told them to go outside if not quiet.
- 19:26Yeah. And then, then Martel and mom go
- 19:31back to sleep. And kids were nowhere to be
- 19:33found when they woke up. Possible.
- 19:38Yeah. Stephanie in Canada says local
- 19:40to this. And Canada sure doesn't give out
- 19:42a lot of information, a lot of hush, hush, lots of hush hush.
- 19:50Yeah. Autumn, please do.
- 19:51Please do. Yeah.
- 19:53Javi's been a good hire, everybody.
- 19:54My, my producer. Javi, I think.
- 19:58I think Wanda would have been good, too.
- 20:01I think, I think Dory would have been great.
- 20:03But we ended up on Javi and Javi's doing great.
- 20:06Stephanie's from Brookfield, NS. We got Atlanta in the house.
- 20:09Ontario Con, Connellsville, PA. The Republic of Ireland, New
- 20:15Jersey, Chilly Lakeland, riverbank, CA man, everybody the
- 20:20Berg. The Berg is here.
- 20:23West Virginia. Thanks guys.
- 20:25Thanks. Let's see.
- 20:29Do cherish, Brittany says. Do you believe the parents were
- 20:32on substances? I think I don't have any reason
- 20:41to believe that they were and I have no reason to believe that
- 20:45they were not to my memory on this.
- 20:49Having said that, and if I can just put my judgy hat on here
- 20:53for a second, when I see a home like this, I think substance
- 20:57abuse. I really do.
- 20:59I'm yeah, I do. But like I said, I don't know.
- 21:09I have no idea. Let's see.
- 21:16Unacceptable in Medicine Hat AB, Canada.
- 21:20Couldn't she be crying wolf to distance herself?
- 21:22She could be. Yeah, she absolutely could be.
- 21:25And that's a that's a good comment.
- 21:29Hello from Perth. Glad to see you here.
- 21:34Let's see. Javi is a functional fish.
- 21:36Javi is the best. Javi is the best.
- 21:40OK, so just to like not to not to whip a dead horse here, but
- 21:45just I just want to grab a couple of details out of the
- 21:49written version of that report that we just saw from the CBC.
- 21:52This is Allie Thompson. They have confirmed that he has
- 21:56been charged with SA assault and forcible confinement involving
- 22:00an adult, not involving the children, the children.
- 22:04What happened to the children is still a mystery.
- 22:10It's been nine months. Nova Scotia RCMP confirmed he
- 22:16was arrested on Monday, so a week ago today.
- 22:19He's due in Pictou Provincial Court on March 2nd.
- 22:23A week or I'm sorry, a month from today, Yeah.
- 22:27And when I was looking at those like the helicopters flying,
- 22:30those are Airbus A3 50s, those like, if you buy those on the
- 22:34used market right now, those are $4 million aircraft.
- 22:37I mean, the, the, the province, the county, whomever it was that
- 22:42they called in, they, they spared no expense to look for
- 22:47these kiddos. Authorities brought in cadaver
- 22:50dogs, conducted 75 interviews, several polygraph examinations,
- 22:55reviewed over 1000 tips and 8000 video files, and have assigned
- 22:59RCMP units for multiple provinces to investigate the
- 23:02case. The children's disappearances
- 23:04fueled widespread speculation and accusations online amid
- 23:08international media attention. Yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm not making
- 23:11any accusations here, but I am asking questions.
- 23:15Like I think I told you guys once that I became aware in my
- 23:21area here in Western Pai, became aware that because the court
- 23:31docket was faster than the police, that there was a warrant
- 23:35out for the arrest of a, of a man in, in our area.
- 23:40And the docket said inactive. So I knew that he wasn't going
- 23:45to get arrested that day. So I, I decided that I was going
- 23:48to track him down at his house and for like an hour at his
- 23:53house, he and his and his domestic partner holding a
- 23:59little baby lied to my face about about the case that he was
- 24:07wanted for basically. And, and I just let him talk,
- 24:11talk, talk. We weren't recording anything
- 24:13was off the record. He but he, he sat there for like
- 24:17an hour and just bald faced lied to me.
- 24:23And if I didn't know the facts or I actually I didn't know the
- 24:27facts at that time, I was, I was skeptical, but he was completely
- 24:35convincing, completely convincing.
- 24:39Now, he did eventually get arrested and he did eventually
- 24:43get plead guilty to a terrible, terrible crime and will be
- 24:46spending decades behind bars because of it.
- 24:51But you know, I look at Mr. Martell in these interviews
- 24:58where he looks sad. He he is choked up.
- 25:03He either that or he's just faking choked up.
- 25:07And he's very, very good at, he's better at it than anybody
- 25:11else I've seen. But could he possibly just be an
- 25:17act? Could that be an act?
- 25:20And I'm not, I'm not accusing him of anything.
- 25:22The only accusations that he faces right now are from the
- 25:25police, not from me. It could be, you know, and he'll
- 25:29have his day in court and we'll see what happens.
- 25:32In the meantime, I'd really love to know what happened to these
- 25:35two kiddos. What?
- 25:38These are two bright little things, man.
- 25:43What happened to Lily and Jack? What happened?
- 25:48I don't know. I do not know.
- 25:53Let's see. S Leo, 8 says he admitted to
- 25:56having problems with methamphetamines.
- 26:03Yeah, yeah, those, those helicopters probably do belong
- 26:05to the feds. They probably have different
- 26:07provincial outposts and so forth.
- 26:10Yeah. Guilty of crime, says Daniel.
- 26:12Used methamphetamines, confirmed by family.
- 26:15And they all seem to be on. I don't know what SP means
- 26:19guilty of crime, but it sure is good to see you.
- 26:21Thanks for thanks for catching, catching up with us now.
- 26:26Actually, you're ahead of us. I should be catching up with
- 26:28you. That that's what it is.
- 26:32Let's see, Emmy 53 says this is horrendous.
- 26:34And Daniel and Malia must know how true is the DNA found in the
- 26:38washing machine and how laundry was being washed until early
- 26:42hours of the morning. What about text between them?
- 26:45Again, like I, I know that there's a lot of conversation
- 26:48online, especially in the beginning, there was tons of
- 26:51conversation online. I haven't been able to verify
- 26:56any of that stuff though, so I haven't really reported on it.
- 27:02Yeah, I don't know. Mr. M325, you passed 2 lie
- 27:06detector tests regarding the children.
- 27:08The assault is a separate case, unrelated.
- 27:10OK. If I can just respectfully and
- 27:14thankfully and thankful for your comment, but if I can just
- 27:17respectfully point out that it hasn't been anybody who has told
- 27:22us that he passed 2 lie detector tests except for him.
- 27:28He is the one that has told us that.
- 27:31We haven't heard that from the police.
- 27:32We haven't heard it from courts. We haven't heard it from anyone.
- 27:35He just said that he passed. Now regarding the second
- 27:41sentence, this assault is a separate case.
- 27:43It is, but it leads to questions about if somebody is capable of
- 27:50doing that to someone else. Is he capable of disappearing
- 27:55children? This is going to lead me to A to
- 28:01a tangent. We have time.
- 28:05We have time. Yeah, let's do it here.
- 28:09Here we go. All right, when I lived in
- 28:16Argentina, my dad, of course, this was back in the olden days,
- 28:23this is in the mid 90s and and my and so the only way to
- 28:30communicate with my parents was letters, right?
- 28:33I was a young man and, and the occasional like little micro
- 28:38cassette. We would record little micro
- 28:40cassettes and send them on to listen to each other's voices.
- 28:43And then a couple times a year we would pay for the very
- 28:47expensive call like on Christmas.
- 28:52But anyway, my dad loved clipping things out of magazines
- 28:57and and newspapers and sending me clippings of what was going
- 29:00on in in the States. And he also liked to show me
- 29:06things that were going on in Argentina.
- 29:07So one day I get a package from the folks and it has the normal
- 29:12news clippings, right? And I'm going through the
- 29:14clippings and there's one from National Geographic and it is
- 29:19like a long form article, 3 or 4 pages the way National
- 29:22Geographic did it. That was, and the reason I
- 29:25thought about this was when I said the disappeared children,
- 29:29there is a term in Spanish that's a pot to see those people
- 29:32who are, who have been disappeared, they have
- 29:35disappeared. And in the like couple years
- 29:42before I had arrived in Argentina, there was a, there
- 29:47was a bit of a rebellion, a bit of an attempted coup.
- 29:51And many of those people who engaged in that attempted coup
- 29:58were young people. They were students.
- 30:01And they had just been taken out of their homes, taken out of
- 30:06their schools, taken off of the street, never to be seen again.
- 30:10And a group of divers from National Geographic had dived
- 30:18into or dove, I don't know how to say that they, they scubaed
- 30:25down into a lake like a man made lake.
- 30:28And at the bottom of a dam, an earthen dam, there was evidence
- 30:35of human remains and things like concrete and chains and stuff
- 30:43like that. And then they were finding large
- 30:47bones and things like that. Anyway, so my dad sends me this
- 30:51thing about basically people who've been murdered.
- 30:53They've been, they've been shackled to concrete and thrown
- 30:58into the lake. And as I was reading that and I
- 31:02found out, I was like, DK Sandroque was the name of the,
- 31:05the dam in the reservoir. That lake was in my backyard.
- 31:11I mean, that's overstating a little bit.
- 31:13Like, I don't know, 1/4 of a mile behind my house.
- 31:17And I was like, dude, dude, total tangent, guys, total
- 31:24tangent. OK, let's get back to Lily and
- 31:32Jack here. What did, what do we have here?
- 31:37Chava Ehrlich says. I think it's possible to know
- 31:43what the kids were wearing when they just don't have a lot of
- 31:45stuff. Oh, that's a good point.
- 31:46Hey, good point, good point. EG when they're only jacket or
- 31:51pair of boots and one of three or four jeans or shirts is gone.
- 31:54That so smart, so smart peanuts mom.
- 32:00And you know what? Yeah, so smart peanuts mom, says
- 32:05Gavin. That just means he believes what
- 32:07he answered. I don't put much on in on lie
- 32:10detectors because you can be delusional enough to believe
- 32:13what you said when it's a lie. Well, I yeah, that's, I guess, I
- 32:17guess my uncle who worked at the FBI for years and years and
- 32:24years as a special agent, retired as a polygraph
- 32:28specialist for the for the agency and then consulted for
- 32:32the agency with polygraph. So I do.
- 32:37But I see, I do believe in the usefulness of the polygraph.
- 32:41But I see your point. And I also like, for example,
- 32:45getting back to like Chris Watts.
- 32:47I know I've brought him up twice now on this, but, you know, they
- 32:52hooked him up to a polygraph and, and asked him questions and
- 32:55then immediately came in as, like, Chris, you didn't do well.
- 32:58You completely failed, man. And, and.
- 33:01And that was the moment where he's like, yeah, OK, I better
- 33:03come clean. And so it was just a tool for
- 33:06investigators to use to leverage a confession from a person that
- 33:10they suspected. Right.
- 33:12So, yeah. K Will says I'd never live in
- 33:17Argentina. Argentina is a beautiful place.
- 33:21Argentina is a beautiful place. Fourth opinion.
- 33:26I've been playing devil's advocate on this one and have
- 33:29been failing. That's funny.
- 33:32Yeah. The Veil's advocate.
- 33:34No, no, no devil's advocate. Well, guys, I mean, hopefully we
- 33:38will find out, you know, March 2nd, maybe there will be some
- 33:42more information that will come out.
- 33:44Canada just does not release a lot of this information.
- 33:46But the more important thing, the thing that I, I mean, I
- 33:51check on every single day, what is the news on Lily and Jack?
- 33:57What is the news? And it has been crickets for so,
- 34:02so long. I just really want these kiddos
- 34:05found. But for now, how about you and
- 34:09me head into three questions? Shall we?
- 34:16Oh, wrong button. Dang it.
- 34:17That was. I wanted to be dramatic.
- 34:19That wasn't Hobby's fault, everybody.
- 34:21That was not Hobby's fault. That was mine.
- 34:23Hobby, Let's do a take two. Let's take two.
- 34:26OK, how about you and I? You and I right now head in to
- 34:29three questions. It's three questions.
- 34:32See, that worked really well. They won't even notice that,
- 34:36Hobby. It was a second.
- 34:37It was a second take. They won't even notice it at
- 34:39all. It was smooth.
- 34:41Oh, did I say that out loud, guys?
- 34:45In this segment of the show, I answer three of your questions
- 34:48and it's it's simply named and simply done.
- 34:53You send in three questions and I answer them there.
- 34:56Three questions. You send them to three questions
- 34:59at gavinfish.com. Spell it out.
- 35:01THREE questions at gavinfish.com.
- 35:05Nothing's off the table. Now recently there's been some
- 35:08political questions coming in, but you know what I said,
- 35:11nothing's off the table. I'd like to keep this a politics
- 35:13free place. I'd appreciate it if politics
- 35:18weren't brought in and maybe I need to change the rules.
- 35:21Maybe I need to say let's not do politics.
- 35:24But I have said everything's on the table.
- 35:28I will answer all your questions.
- 35:30So, but today's questions are actually pretty straightforward
- 35:33and what I'm hoping that you guys will do is in the chat,
- 35:37answer the questions for me as well.
- 35:39Don't forget to put GF in your answer so that I know what
- 35:41you're it's, it highlights it on my end so that I can see it.
- 35:45OK, question number one, do you have any pets?
- 35:48Indeed we do. Currently in Chateau Fish, we
- 35:54have two cats. They are the very first cats
- 35:58we've ever had. Their names are Betty Haynes and
- 36:03Judy Haynes, the famous Haines sisters and and I've learned
- 36:10that I am a cat person. We also in our home right now
- 36:15have two cockatiels, a male and a female.
- 36:22We are down from I think our record for how many birds we had
- 36:26in the house at a given time was like 7.
- 36:30We have children that love animals and then we have a a
- 36:34little Bunny named Harry that is also here in the house, a house
- 36:39Bunny named Harry. His companion sadly passed away
- 36:45pretty recently. Those are the pets in the in
- 36:50Chateau fish at the moment. But we've had snakes, we've had
- 36:56mice, we've had dogs. As I've always thought that I
- 36:59was a dog person. Turns out I think I'm a cat
- 37:01person. Yeah, that's that is the
- 37:04situation here. Question #2 If you were
- 37:08invisible for a day, what would you do?
- 37:10If I were invisible for a day, would I go on some grand
- 37:18adventure? Would I?
- 37:20Would I sneak my way into some facility where I was?
- 37:27No, where I was not allowed. Would I, would I spy on on
- 37:37somebody? No, I think I would just like, I
- 37:41don't know. I think I would just like have a
- 37:44day all to myself and it would be awesome.
- 37:48And that's not to say that I don't have those days, I just
- 37:50really love those days. I think I would have a day all
- 37:53to myself but I'm curious what the rules are here.
- 37:57Am I invisible but my clothes aren't so I have to be like
- 38:01necky and and cold all the time so if that's the case I'm not
- 38:05doing anything? Or do I have the power to
- 38:09invisible myself and my clothing and maybe even my car or
- 38:13something like that? And then that would change.
- 38:16That would change. Those variables would change the
- 38:18equation for sure. I think I would just spend a day
- 38:21alone. I really do.
- 38:24And and I want to know what you guys would do.
- 38:26Last question, if you could only eat one meal for the rest of
- 38:29your life, what would it be? OK, I'm a professional quibbler
- 38:32here. Are you saying what would my
- 38:34last meal because the rest of my life is short and about to be
- 38:40about to be snuffed out? Or is it that I have a long and
- 38:46glorious life and I'm going to eat just one meal?
- 38:52It's actually very easy for me. I never get Oh, and let's just
- 38:56assume that I won't get fat again.
- 38:58OK, let's just assume that for me it is the classic hamburger
- 39:06with Pickles, onions, lettuce, ketchup.
- 39:11Well done Patty. I like things well done.
- 39:13I know, I know it's weird, but that's what I like.
- 39:17A well done Patty on a good sourdough roll with some fries.
- 39:24And if I'm going to be honest, an RC Cola.
- 39:28I mean, I'm not I'm, I haven't eaten any of that stuff in
- 39:31months, but. But yeah, I do love a good
- 39:38burger. In fact, it's really funny
- 39:40because we have, we have an inside joke.
- 39:42If Kimberly and I go out to an American restaurant, the joke is
- 39:48that I'm going to hem and Haw over the menu.
- 39:52I'm going to look at it. I'm going to, I'm going to,
- 39:54should I do this? Should I do that?
- 39:56But, but I am going to order the hamburger and that's all I'm
- 39:59going to order. Likewise if I if we go to a
- 40:04Mexican restaurant. She'll look, she'll look through
- 40:08the entire menu and she'll say, oh, I'm yeah, I think I'm going
- 40:11to do something fancy here. But she's definitely ordering
- 40:15the veggie fajitas. That's just the way it is.
- 40:19I would be happy with the burger and fries for the rest of my
- 40:23life. And actually getting back to
- 40:26before, if it were the last meal that I was going to have and I
- 40:31could have lobster or I could have steak or I could have
- 40:34anything I wanted, it'd be a burger and fries, man.
- 40:38It would be a burger and fries. And those are our three
- 40:43questions. OK, now real quick, we're going
- 40:47to get into headlines. But when we do take that time,
- 40:51please answer the questions. What would be your last meal?
- 40:54If you're invisible for the day, what would you do?
- 40:56And do you have any pets? I'd love to hear that.
- 40:58And with that, let's get into some headlines.
- 41:00True crime headlines. Pow.
- 41:09Now that one, that one was well executed.
- 41:11It was dramatic. It was a good little segue into
- 41:14that little that little whatever you call it, the little theme
- 41:19song. OK, headline number one.
- 41:22We talked about it earlier. Brendan Manfield Deborah double
- 41:25murder trial. He was found guilty and
- 41:27elaborate plot to get rid of his wife.
- 41:29A Virginia man has been found guilty of killing his wife and a
- 41:33stranger lured to their home. I can't the the evilness man, a
- 41:39stranger lured to their home under false pretenses in an
- 41:43elaborate plot to get rid of his spouse so he could be with his
- 41:46au pair with whom he was having an affair.
- 41:49Brennan Banfield, 40, is accused of stabbing his wife to death in
- 41:53their home in Fairfax County and fatally shooting a man he
- 41:57allegedly catfished on a fetish website.
- 41:59Prosecutors said he pretended to be his wife to lure the man to
- 42:03their home for what was believed to be a consensual fake R word
- 42:09scenario in order to frame that stranger for the wife's murder.
- 42:12Evil I. I can't imagine a worse crime I
- 42:20it's so bad. The jury deliberated nearly 9
- 42:24hours over 2 days starting Friday before reaching A verdict
- 42:27Monday afternoon finding him guilty of two counts of
- 42:31aggravated murder. He exhibited little emotion when
- 42:33the verdict was read. His sentencing is scheduled for
- 42:38May 8th. He faces a life sentence without
- 42:40the possibility of parole. A second headline in this one is
- 42:44another one that I've been looking at every day to see what
- 42:48is going on here. And guess what, finally
- 42:51something happened today. Headline suspect and Kata Scott
- 42:57murder held for trial after emotional hearing in
- 43:01Philadelphia court. You guys remember Kata Scott,
- 43:05the Philadelphia young lady, recent college graduate who was
- 43:11last seen at her job, leaving the job, going with somebody and
- 43:16then her body was discovered in a park later.
- 43:20Mr. Keon King is charged with her murder and what a
- 43:27preliminary hearing happened today.
- 43:29The suspect charged with murdering 23 year old
- 43:31Philadelphia woman Kada Scott was ordered to be held for trial
- 43:34after an emotional preliminary hearing Monday.
- 43:38Keon King, 21, has been held held without bail since his
- 43:41arrest on October 15th. He's charged with murder,
- 43:44kidnapping and assault. Scott disappeared on October 4th
- 43:48after an intensive search that made national headline.
- 43:50Scott's body was found two weeks later in a shallow grave behind
- 43:54the vacant Ada Lewis Middle School in Philadelphia's
- 43:56Germantown neighborhood. Let's see.
- 44:02Action News reporter to Rhonda Thomas was in court for the
- 44:05hearing on Monday. She said King looked, Oh, yeah,
- 44:08because it's Pennsylvania. There's no cameras, No anything
- 44:12in a courtroom sucks, but that's the way Pennsylvania law is.
- 44:18So Taronda Thomas said King looked quite a bit different
- 44:22from the way he did in his mug shot.
- 44:23He had a haircut, no longer had dreadlocks, wore a cardigan and
- 44:27a button down shirt, and the judge allowed King's handcuffs
- 44:30to be removed as he sat in court.
- 44:33Kata Scott's family members filled part of the courtroom in
- 44:36a show of support. Good for them, good for them.
- 44:40During the hearing, a former Co worker of Scott testified that
- 44:43on the night of Scott's disappearance, Scott got a phone
- 44:45call right when she arrived for her overnight shift at 10:00 PM.
- 44:49According to the Co worker, Scott said something to the
- 44:51effect of I can't believe you're calling me.
- 44:54Scott had tears in her eyes and appeared scared, the Co worker
- 44:57testified. Prosecutors revealed evidence
- 45:00appointed the key on King as the person who made the 43 second
- 45:03phone call. And we've read those affidavits.
- 45:09Investigators also revealed evidence that King and Scott had
- 45:12been texting in a way that suggested they plan to meet up
- 45:14that evening. Yeah.
- 45:17So you can read that on 6 ABC. Several investigators testified
- 45:24there was surveillance video that was shown.
- 45:28Yeah. So he's been held for court.
- 45:30So that means that he is moving from the District Court over to
- 45:36the Court of Common Pleas. I'm sure that there will be a, a
- 45:40hearing, you know, status hearing.
- 45:43No, I think his next hearing will be an arraignment.
- 45:47Then the last headline I wanted to share with you guys tonight
- 45:50was Charlie Adelson, Good old Charlie.
- 45:55Charlie's attorneys to appear in court seeking a new trial.
- 45:59OK, of course. Charlie Adelson was convicted in
- 46:06the murder of his former brother-in-law, Dan Markell.
- 46:10His mother, Donna Adelson was also convicted.
- 46:14Catherine Manbagua, his his girlfriend was convicted and
- 46:21then Luis Rivera, Sigfredo Garcia were all convicted in the
- 46:24murder of Dan Markell. Now, of course, now we kind of
- 46:33wonder what's going to happen with Harvey.
- 46:36But getting back to the article, Charlie Adelson's attorneys will
- 46:40push for a new trial on Tuesday, Tomorrow at the 1st District
- 46:45Court of Appeal. Adelson was convicted in 2023
- 46:49for first degree murder, solicitation and conspiracy to
- 46:51commit first degree murder in the 2014 killing of former FSU
- 46:56professor Dan Markell. Charlie Adelson was convicted as
- 47:01one of the Co conspirators in Markell's murder.
- 47:03In January 2025, the 1st District Court of Appeal denied
- 47:07a motion by Adelson's team seeking to relinquish
- 47:10jurisdiction in the trial court. Now, on Tuesday, oral arguments
- 47:14will be heard by three appeal judges, Judges Roe Winokur and
- 47:18MK Thomas. The docket does say this is
- 47:22subject to change. According to the docket, the
- 47:25paperwork submitted to and paperwork submitted to the
- 47:28courts, Michael Robert Ufferman and Laurel Cornell Niles
- 47:32Adelson's attorneys are appealing based on the trial
- 47:34court airing when they denied a change of venue for the trial,
- 47:38excluding defense proffered text messages that would have shown
- 47:42appellant Adelson, Charlie and other alleged Co conspiracies
- 47:46communicating normally during the time leading up Dan Markel's
- 47:50murder. It excluded evidence that was
- 47:53highly probative of the theory of the defense.
- 47:56This was related to the defense's theory that Adelson
- 47:59was being extorted. Their arguments conclude with
- 48:02the errors cumulatively in this case denied appellant Adelson
- 48:06his constitutional right for to a fair trial.
- 48:10The state and the defense will each be allotted 20 minutes to
- 48:13present their case. Oral arguments are set to begin
- 48:15tomorrow morning at 10 AM. Those are our headlines, true
- 48:20crime headlines. Okie, dokie.
- 48:30Let's see what you guys are saying over here.
- 48:33First, we have a super chat. Thank you so much.
- 48:37So what is it? Fizzler?
- 48:42Fizzler. Gavin.
- 48:43Not to give away my age, but I remember those missing students.
- 48:46Their mothers were unrelenting and protesting their children's
- 48:49disappearance. They marched, holding their
- 48:51children's photos. Las Madres de Los Desaparecidos.
- 48:55Yes, indeed. Yeah.
- 48:58Well, I don't remember it much because I was focused on other
- 49:04things, but when Dad sent me that information I was like
- 49:09crazy crazy. And Andy loves our cats names.
- 49:12Yeah. Betty and Judy.
- 49:14We could have gotten Benny the dogface boy, but who wants that?
- 49:18We just did Betty and Judy. Let's see.
- 49:22Kate in Virginia says I'm a cat person too.
- 49:24Currently I have 4 cats and a dog.
- 49:26Awesome. Garth B Nutt says I love
- 49:29animals. My Chihuahua, Pebbles is queen
- 49:31of the house. Queen of the house.
- 49:33I've always. I've always wanted a Chihuahua.
- 49:36Actually we've always had, well we've had three dogs and the
- 49:44first was just a mutt. He was a muddy boy found in a
- 49:49crate behind the Raley's in Sacramento, CA and and my
- 49:56brother-in-law brought him home and we kidnapped him about a
- 50:00year later because my mother-in-law just didn't want
- 50:02to. And we've had a we've had a
