- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's like the idea of like, okay, you're house burnt down.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: So at least I get to design that master bedroom that I wanted.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like that would be a toxic positivity thing.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: Finding joy is the neighbors that came in and were in showed how much they love and support you and brought you new items and new things.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think finding joy or being the joy doesn't mean that you're not feeling feelings.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: It just means that you are not hyper focused on all the shit.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to the be it till you see it podcast, where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_02]: I'm also Logan, Ply's instructor and fitness business coach.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_02]: I've trained thousands of people around the world, and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_02]: My friends, action brings clarity.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_02]: and it's the antidote to fear.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_02]: Each week my guests will bring bold, executable, intrinsic, and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and be it till you see it.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's a practice, not a perfect, let's get started.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: Take it away.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back to The Beat Today seed interview recap where my co-host and life Brad and I are going to dig into the delightful combo I have with Amy Dickens in our last episode.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't yet, listen to that interview, feel free to pause us now and go back because you missed out on some joy stuff.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like it was all joyful.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: It was super joy.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, you did.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: So if you want to miss on joy, it was delightful.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: you can listen to this first to see how much joy isn't it and then get that joy and treat fixed by listening to her episode after.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: Today is August 6th.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's a day after my brother's birthday.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: Twenty twenty six and it kicks off color awareness week, which I'm sure the people who have clutter also hate that it's just kicking off on a Thursday, but that's how they did it.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: which takes place annually, shining a light on the often overlooked issue of physical and mental clutter, this week encourages individuals to identify, confront, and overcome disorganization in their lives.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: Join the movement by declettering a space, donating unused items, or learning new organizational strategies.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: So
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: I am super excited to say that I have, by the time you listen to this, we'll have taken all of our old dish towels, studio cleaning towels, old towels.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: Brad doesn't like that, but I'm taking old towels.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: old house all to the STCA, the Nevada STCA because they will use them and I got myself some new microfiber towels for the studio and I'm going to find kitchen towels that actually soak up shit because the ones we have, I don't know if you know it's Brad, they just move it around, there's a movement around, there's a movement around, there's something wrong with these towels, so they are gone, I'm taking them away, it's time for some
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's funny.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you're not wrong and it's interesting because I sometimes it's easy to get stuck in cleaning just so that you can focus and then that's tough definitely ADHD, but then other times I go through not cleaning and it just piles up things just pile up looking at a basket.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: and I was looking at it before he started this call before I knew it was a week at almost and I was like this should be a box.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: Why is this in an open basket and why is this basket here and then if we take you guys cannot see because what you see is very strategic but we this this podcast room has become Monica's closet.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just gonna say if you know Monica from friends this is Monica's closet and by the time you hear this I'm going to say that we have
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's time to declutter.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: Hi.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: So tell us, make sure you a sit-out win-in of what you declutter this week.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to go to thebeepod.com to ask questions.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, really quick.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: As you have heard, the rumors are true.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: I created a teacher training program for new teachers or
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: somewhat trained teachers who want to study applies way I teach it.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: So if you like the style of my applies, in fact, and you like my tutorials, my flashcards, you want to go through my training.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's called uplift the capital L and the educators for this program are people who train with me through my mentorship program elevate.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: And so if you're a comprehensively trained teacher and you want to study directly with me, then you want to do elevate.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: If you actually just want to train through a training that I've created and that I'm very intimately involved in,
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: Elevate grads will be teaching.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: You want to go through a uplift.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: So, uplifts, waitlist for teachers and people who want to be in that training is xxll.co-u-w-s. And if you, just to also make a distinction, uplift is for people who are not yet teachers.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: not yet teachers.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: However, but elevate is our for comprehensively trained teachers already.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and I have to keep saying this because it's important the industry is very unique.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: There are people who've only been trained on mat or reformer or mat and reformer.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: And so,
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: if you want to do a comprehensive training, you could go through uplift because you cannot go through elevate because you have to have a head of comprehensive training to do elevate.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: If you are already a comprehensive training instructor and you're like, oh, I want to learn your teaching style, but it doesn't have to be directly with you.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: I prefer something in person.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_01]: You could be a bridge participant in uplift.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: So it's definitely for people who want to become a pilot instructor, but there are ways where you're already doing some sort of teaching that
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: Those of you who are asking me how you can be an educator for elevate, I love you.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so glad you're so excited.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: You actually need to go through elevate.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: So the actual proper channel is to go through elevate.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: And so you want to go to lessleylogan.co slash elevate.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: If you just want to stay with me and not teach uplifting, you can still go through elevate, but you have to be a comprehensively trained instructor.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_02]: True.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: There we did it.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we're on summer tour.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: We're on the road.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's happening.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know what day where we must be in Lawrence Kansas or and we might be in Nashville today.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_01]: Hold on.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: We should look.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: The sixth I think we're in Nashville.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: We're Knoxville.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I don't know where the tour would day the tour starts on.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: I actually haven't looked.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: But we do start in Denver.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: That was just that sold out Lawrence Kansas.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: That sold out.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: Then it's Nashville.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: Then it's Knoxville roof top location for the Mac classes.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: Gonna be so freaking cool.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: I know we have a day off before we go to Augusta, Georgia, then Atlanta, Georgia.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: We're in Lawrence on August 6th.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: August 6th.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: Lawrence Kansas.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: Second day of the tour.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: August 6th.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, we start on my brother's birthday.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: That'll be easier, remember.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: So there is at the time of this recording.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: There are still space and stop three.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: all the way to 14, but spaces are very much running out in Atlanta, Huntsville, Birmingham, Jackson, and Tucson.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, they might already be gone by the time listen this, but there is some good space in Nashville, Knoxville, Greensboro, Augusta,
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: Briscoe, I'll pass out.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I'll pass out.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to be in, it's going to teach in Spanish.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm going to have a translator.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have a teaching Spanish.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: I do how to understand what I'm, what if she's saying what I said, it's Spanish.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: So don't worry, I can hear that.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: So, and our tourist powered by balanced body, which means we have gifts or to the gets and prizes to give away.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: We have the Contrology Equipment to bring in so you can try it out.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: We have a discount, so maybe you can use to buy your own equipment.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: Come on down.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: OPC.me such tour.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: And then if you're new here, don't forget to check out our Poliz flashcards and our posters.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: Our flashcards are amazing.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: And you can buy them from us and support an amazing small company.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: And part of the money that you spend goes to then in that SPCA, which helps dogs, cats, give me pictures and chillers.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: They have other weird bunnies, get well taken care of, until they find their forever home, as they would say, forever home.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_01]: And if you want our posters, we have those too.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: I got caught that.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm okay.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we'll use looked around like, like, what did she say?
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: So I'll be sent at me slash flashcards.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_02]: I'll be sent at me slash posters.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_02]: Look how easy we make those links.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: What is not easy is if you want to send your winning to celebrate that you got those posters or flashcards, you have to send it into biopod.com slash questions.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we no longer take your questions here.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: We do those on Sunday's at YouTube live.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: So come to that, our online plays classes.com has a YouTube channel and we go live every Sunday chatting with you.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: So instead, we bring up a charity that's topical for the time.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: So what is it, Brad?
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: All right, this month is the...
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: vaccination or immunization awareness month.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's what it is.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: So we're focusing on vaccinate your family.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: Taking off our immunization spotlight, we're featuring vaccinate your family.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: A nonprofit with serious roots.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: It was founded in 1991 by former First Lady Rosalind Carter.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: We love the Carter's and former Arkansas First Lady Betty Bumpers.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: Do you know that?
- 8:45[SPEAKER_01]: it looks like ladybug if you go too fast because it says first ladybuddy bumpers and I'm just like ladybug.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: That's amazing.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: Originally, as every child by two renamed Vaxnate your family in 2018, the goal was to get people vaccinated by two years old.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's mission is to protect people of all ages from vaccine preventable diseases by reaching everyone in the U.S. with science based information and a real pathway to immunization, including a tool that helps families figure out how to actually pay for vaccines and a grassroots advocacy program that trains every people to share their stories.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: In a year where measles has come roaring back across our entire country, the work matters more than usual and it's about in this month we're featuring a very well-vetted
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, charity.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, they don't get more vetted than this.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: They have 92% score and forced our rating from charity navigator plus a gold seal of transparency from Candid.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: Whether you're a parent, a caregiver or someone who just wants families to have clear answers and real access, this one is absolutely worth a look.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: Find out more and support them at vaccinate your family.com.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I think this is really important because it's a really weird time right now where
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: and that can be very harmful, not just for the people who get misinformation, but also for the people that that misinformation negatively affects.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there's people who believe that these vaccines are causing autism out in the world.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: autism has been here before vaccines, it's not a thing you catch, it's a thing that part of how your body and brain all work together and when people spread the immense information, it negatively affects people who are autistic in a way that's unfair and unwarranted and awful.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: But the other reality is, is there are people who cannot get vaccinated for whatever reason, like there are people who either are not old enough for certain vaccines or their system is going through something, they have cancer, things like that, and so they
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: We are supposed to be doing this together, and because of misinformation about vaccines, it has been debunked too many times.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: The U.S. is no longer measle-free.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, they think that will never get it back.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: And it's a sad thing because measles does ruin your entire immune system, including things you were already immunized from.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: And you could die.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you can't.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_02]: And if you want to see a real-life example of how they educate and talk about that,
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: Very interesting episode about that.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you don't die, but maybe the person that got exposed to it in those first four days that you had it Yeah, it couldn't be vaccinated.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: I mean when they did I can't remember if it was smallpox or measles back in the day It was the pitch was not everybody can get the vaccine.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so therefore it's incumbent on us to give a shit about our neighbors who can't get it.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: It was polio
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was polio.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: You're a great uncle hat, not polio.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: You're right.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was polio.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: So not everyone can get the vaccine because of immunity stuff.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: So the best thing for the community is for everyone who can get the vaccine to get the vaccine so that we are not carriers or passing things along and it protects others.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and also it's really interesting, like Dr. Divya on Instagram did this whole thing about like the best peptide you can get.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: The best peptide, and she talked about how amazing peptides are, what peptides are, how they come from your body, how a GLP1, the P stands for peptide, and everyone in the world is like super in on peptides, and she said the best peptide is a vaccination.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: And so, because that's what they are.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: They fucking are.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so tired of people rebranding actual things to something else, and it just pisses me off because the reality is is like, yes, sure.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_01]: Something should be a personal choice, but then there's also the fact that like the attitude around That is not really for other people and you're it's not being it's not thoughtful and look I am also aware that some people have very bad reactions to certain vaccines I'm not talking about you.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm talking about the other people the people who are
- 12:45[SPEAKER_01]: We're lying on misinformation and influencers to fear monger them and to not only not take care of themselves, but not taking care of the people around them.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: So that it's not about the people who can't get it.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's about doing it so that the people can't get it don't have to, because they can't.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's fucking hard.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of bad stuff.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: I understand that's all the awful history about how a lot of vaccinations were done and how racist stuff happened.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: And so I get that this is so many layers and I don't want our conversation here to be a pedantic or like small about it.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_01]: But I do want to acknowledge that we got rid of fucking meals as well.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: Now we don't have.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: Now we're not.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, it's bug.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sitting in your family.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to help support them to help people who are not misinformed yet to get taken care of and get the help they need.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: Because a lot of these things are free if they know about it.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: If you have a charity that you think should be featured, or we should be talking about, let us know.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: Go to beepa.com slash questions.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: and you can also leave us a win for the Friday episode.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_00]: Stick around.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be right back.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to talk about Amy Dickens.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about Amy Dickens.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: Amy is a joy advocate, author of 101 ways to spread joy and the creator of Joyfully You.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: She helps people reconnect their joy as a tool for nervous system regulation and transformation.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_00]: After struggling with mental health challenges and into her mid to late 20s, Amy discovered that
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: her experience led to explore how community and intentional joy practices reshape lives and she's known for leading joy parades in the streets and helping others overcome social anxiety to build meaningful connections.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's pretty freaking cool.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_01]: So cool.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I have to be honest.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure someone in her life was like, you're going to make money doing this.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_01]: But like she is.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_01]: And she's doing a great job.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: And she brings it to smile to your face.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I couldn't.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: I love so much of what she said.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_01]: People, we show up as the joy that we wish to see in the world that creates this invisible ripple effect.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: And it's so true.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: So did you say, be it till you.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: Be a taste.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's what she said.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's what she said.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I said.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I think this is so true.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: If there's an idea, if you need love, go give love, like if you need joy, go give, enjoy to people, go smile, go be.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: She says in a world full of fear and divisiveness, joy acts as a breath of fresh air.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: And it really is true.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: In the industry that I'm in, it can be really negative, really nasty.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm super pissed about people taking my IP and all the stuff, but I had a scroll who's in a similar situation where someone in other countries, like using her stuff, it's gone through all this efforts.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, finally, is at the end of the rope.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_01]: And she's at the lap.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: All I can do is actually just put all the evidence on on Facebook, call them out and blast it because I can't go any further.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, would you help me share this?
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: I said it's not that I don't support you.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: Now that I'm probably going to do the same thing, it's that I try not to put out negative stuff in this industry.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_01]: I try to find a positive way to talk about the shit.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: So that there's hope and that goes to like, how can we figure out a way to either breath of fresh air and our office is in the family situation.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: So that not only do we experience story, but people do too.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe those people who are fearful and divisive might actually, I don't know, maybe something happens when they experience a little bit of joy.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's interesting.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's tough to, they focused on the positive, you know, especially if somebody is maligning you or stealing from you.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, that's a hard thing.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's a distinction in the joy and then like we had a guest last year about, we talked about toxic positivity.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: Being a breath of fresh air and finding joy does not have to be in the shit that's happening.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: It could actually be next to the shit, right?
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's like the idea of like, okay, your house burnt down.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_01]: So at least I get to design that master bedroom that I wanted.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like that would be a toxic positivity thing.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: Finding joy is the neighbors that came in very and showed how much they love and support you and and brought you new items and new things I think finding joy or being the joy doesn't mean that you're not feeling feelings It just means that you are not hyper focus on all the shit hyper focus on all the shit Yep, I really loved what she's talking about.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: How do you predict join happiness?
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: you know, she said that the number one predictor is your relationships.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: In life.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: We were talking about this with another person, not us with another person.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: You heard of an a guy talking about like happiness and quality of your relationship.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: It has to be a free prong.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: So like this is very fascinating.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_01]: Your number predictor of happened is your relationship.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like the idea of like your the average of the five people you hang out with.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah sure.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_01]: So if there are shitty people, you're probably not going to have a lot of joy.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, she said it includes both deep intimate relationships, but also saying how to random strangers.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_01]: I like that you do that.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: My mom does that.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think I smile.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: I acknowledge.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I definitely started doing that when I was a teenager.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: And I would just compliment people, you know, I like your shoes or I like your You do that all the time.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: They don't even listen.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes he said something night in the airport.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: He told this one person like your jacket and a guy with a shitty jacket was like this thing.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_01]: And it was like
- 18:00[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's not going to hurt.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, oh my god, but anyways, it all went a good last, so there was joy there.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_01]: And like, you were a little pocket of joy for someone.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: So funny.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but you know, if you are, I can't say hi to strangers because what if they're like crazy, what if they come out of me, ladies, I feel you, which is why I actually make sure and very kind of the people behind the counter of the places that I get coffee.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_01]: So I want to be, they are safe.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: They are behind the coffee thing.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, someone vetted them to work at that coffee place.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: And so I will bring joy to them.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then if I want to the people around me, I have a witness.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: So I feel good about, I don't do it on the street as much.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, well, she, she said that even saying how do your neighbor actually matters for your mental health and joy.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_00]: So saying hi to waving or being kind of the male person or whatever.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_00]: She said, we are in a loneliness epidemic right now.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: Learning to build community is a skill.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: The hard part requires being brave that moment of hello, but the payoff is actual community and connection, right?
- 19:03[SPEAKER_00]: That is amazing for our own loneliness, our own mental health, for our own joy, and our own happiness.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: You know, so she said, you have to put yourself in situations where you feel really scared and you're doing it anyways.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's like she listened to the podcast.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, I was laughing because like so many things, you know, do it scared, you know, she didn't say me to you see it, but she did say she basically described that yeah, a lot of the things that she was talking about I was laughing because I was like, oh yeah, we we say that we talk about that I love it I love it I know and I think that's really true like there is a loneliness epidemic.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: one thing that I love about our situation where we live now versus like the apartment because we couldn't really just I guess we did know our male person at the apartment but like we know our FedEx driver we know our UPS people we know our male lady and even the ones we don't know we are always out there and hey we meet them outside like hey how's it going they know they're like oh this one of you had the van and the guy came up and he was handing me something's like oh this is
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: engagement.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: They're just on the roads dealing with those people.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_01]: And then so you've got it.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_01]: If you just even be nice to them, you know, like you are changing.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_01]: You might be the impact that they need.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I remember.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_00]: But you're also by doing that.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_00]: You're the impact that you need.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I agree.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: I remember.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I worked in retail.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_01]: We had the same UPS driver money to Friday and a different on Saturday.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_01]: And we loved our money to Friday guy.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_01]: And he's no, I'm an AC all day.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have to do anything, but we were such good friends with our UPS driver and it was something to look forward to every day.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like part of the routine.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: Here he comes.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_00]: That's fun.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: Well, stick around.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be right back.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to dig into those be it action items.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, let's talk about those vegan action items that you have with Amy Dickens, what bold, executable intrinsic or targeted action items can we take away from your convo.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_00]: She said she uses two practices for maintaining joy.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: The first one is Miracle Walks.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: I love this.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: And she said, walk Miracle Dreams person we had.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: she said just walk around walk your block and she said look up she changes her perspective instead of looking down at her phone or head on the you know sidewalk look up what are you actually seeing she said you cannot return until you identify three miracles on this walk okay so miracle number one might be do on a leaf or birds singing right so three things where you're just observing something that is amazing something that is astounding
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: I do this every morning.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_01]: I take a note of the moon and the sunrise every morning.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: I love that.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, for me.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: I did on a third one for me.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's often like a cactus.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_00]: I'll take up.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'll take a closer look at them and just see because they're all fascinating how they grow.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_01]: They change every day every day.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: I go and look at these plants and they have somehow changed.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_01]: Especially right now because of the flowering.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I know this part of the year is so beautiful in Vegas.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_00]: She said this trains your brain to actively scan for beauty and joy in places you've already walked a thousand times.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: So instead of just letting it all pass you by, you know, even in the city, there's amazing things to see.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_00]: So I love it.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: Miracle walks is one, two calendar blocking.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: Prior to scheduling connection and joy before filling your calendar with work.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: So this is very, this is actually very much on brand with what I say when I teach people how to their schedule on our retreat, which is you have to put your priorities first, sleep, yeah, light is genius sleep, yeah, your rocks in your schedule the way we we describe that, you know, prioritizing the opportunity for connection and joy should be.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_00]: It should be paramount.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_00]: It should absolutely be a part of your schedule.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: So yes, you know, for me, you cannot fit joy in.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to fit it in.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_01]: That's an a stress it out.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for me, it's been sitting on the front porch drinking my coffee in the morning, just gathering my thoughts and enjoying the day, you know, you know, we have not done.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: Tell me we have not told the podcast.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: We have a dog.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: Oh,
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: with a new dog.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: Congratulations us.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's like more about that another day.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we'll share that more.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_00]: If you're on socials, I'm sure you've seen it on Instagram.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, you know, when we fill our calendar with all the things first, we never leave room for ourselves.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: And therefore, we're not leaving room for connection and joy.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, and that brings happiness.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: And your morning, the reason that like thought dolphined up is because you sit out on the porch and the mornings with the dog.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: And Darla tried to join this routine and it did not bring us about five minutes.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_00]: Did not bring Darla join?
- 23:46[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 23:47[UNKNOWN]: No.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: What about she?
- 23:49[SPEAKER_00]: What is your biggest takeaway?
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: Give yourself permission to follow your joy.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever big or little ways that might be.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: This is really important.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: She's going to get up.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: Let me say this.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_02]: Let me finish her thought.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_02]: Take a deep breath.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: be honest with yourself, write it all down, say, okay, today, what I would, what would I feel like about a 5% more alive right now, right?
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: So she's giving, you're giving yourself permission to follow your joy, whatever that is.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: I want to just make sure I say this, my loves, my ADHD people, my high overachiever perfectionist, just because something brings you joy does not mean you have to get paid to do it.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: So please
- 24:26[SPEAKER_01]: to follow your joy and not make it have a return on investment other than joy.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: As soon as I started telling people I was reading my taro, I have people who need to reading for me.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: No, don't take my joy from me.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: And so I stop telling people because they're trying to make a job out of it.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_01]: So and then some people might go, oh, why are you doing that?
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: You can't make mine from that.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's not your point.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: So just protect your joy thing.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: So, in giving yourself a permission to follow your joy, you don't have to rewrite your whole life story, but allow yourself to just take a little of that as a tiny little reframe.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: A new way of telling the same thing about yourself, or a new way of adding something in.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: You're not changing everything about yourself to add a little bit of joy, but you are, probably, an affirmation of like, I am someone who sees joy in my morning walks.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's not changing everything you are, but it's changing that one little spot in reframing those things.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I dig it.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think she's great.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: This was a really fun podcast.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_00]: Her demeanor and her attitude were amazingly joyful.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's contagious.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, I love it.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: 101 ways to spread joy.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: All these people who can do 100 on anything, I am already impressed because I'm 101.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: That is so many, you know, 10, give me 10, bye.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, check that out.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: Amy Dickens 101 ways to spread joy.
