- 0:04Hello and welcome back to Empowered and Well. I'm Lauren.
- 0:0600:23.35
- 0:08Amanda Gargiulo
- 0:10And I'm Amanda. And today we're doing something a little bit different. We're basically just winging it.
- 0:1200:30.90
- 0:14Lauren Brown
- 0:16which honestly might be one of our best ah episodes yet. It might be a total disaster. We're going to find out either way. we are totally here for it We pulled some trending health topics, some random questions, and we're just going to react, riff off each other, probably go on some tangents and see where the conversation goes.
- 0:1800:52.57
- 0:20Amanda Gargiulo
- 0:22Yeah, I love this. No notes, no scripts, just two friends who happen to know a lot about women's health and we have a lot of opinions. So grab your coffee with me, um your water with Lauren or whatever you've whatever you've got and let's really dive into it.
- 0:2401:09.02
- 0:26Lauren Brown
- 0:28All right. So I did pull some this or that. so we're going to start with that before we get into the random questions.
- 0:3001:11.80
- 0:32Amanda Gargiulo
- 0:34Okay.
- 0:3601:14.46
- 0:38Lauren Brown
- 0:40um Some of these we've probably answered before, but we'll go we'll go right into the oldie but goodie of cold plunger sauna.
- 0:4201:23.12
- 0:44Amanda Gargiulo
- 0:46Oh my gosh. Come on Sauna all the way for me. Love starting it out.
- 0:4801:26.20
- 0:50Lauren Brown
- 0:52Same, same.
- 0:5401:28.70
- 0:56Amanda Gargiulo
- 0:58um Therapy or journaling?
- 1:0001:31.59
- 1:02Lauren Brown
- 1:04Journaling.
- 1:0601:32.67
- 1:08Amanda Gargiulo
- 1:10Okay.
- 1:1201:33.82
- 1:14Lauren Brown
- 1:16What about you?
- 1:1801:34.94
- 1:20Amanda Gargiulo
- 1:22I actually, therapy. I love talking it out, man. It's so good. And I think I need to find new therapist.
- 1:2401:41.82
- 1:26Lauren Brown
- 1:28I think my problem with therapy, see, I'm gonna already go on a tangent. My problem with therapy is that, and this is gonna be so telling of my personality, i guess, that the second I'm like not totally liking what they have to say to give me advice, if I'm like not ready to make the change, i'm like, no, we're done here.
- 1:3002:01.66
- 1:32Amanda Gargiulo
- 1:34Really? That's interesting.
- 1:3602:02.74
- 1:38Lauren Brown
- 1:40Yeah, well, I'll tell you so.
- 1:4202:03.29
- 1:44Amanda Gargiulo
- 1:46didn't know that about you.
- 1:4802:04.89
- 1:50Lauren Brown
- 1:52When I was going to a therapist, so when I was engaged and we were getting ready to get married, my ex-husband had issues with drug use and money and mental health and all these things. And I was going to a therapist to deal with it. And she was like, you should call off your weddings.
- 1:5402:28.57
- 1:56Lauren Brown
- 1:58And she was really like pushing a little bit on it where she was like at least postpone it. You need, you've got work to do. And I was like, I'm never coming back.
- 2:0002:41.66
- 2:02Lauren Brown
- 2:04I should have listened to her though. See, so I probably put this into the therapist. Yeah. That's what happened.
- 2:0602:47.55
- 2:08Amanda Gargiulo
- 2:10Oh, wow. That's so cool. Thanks for sharing that. Wow.
- 2:1202:50.46
- 2:14Lauren Brown
- 2:16Yeah.
- 2:1802:51.90
- 2:20Amanda Gargiulo
- 2:22Woo. Okay. On that note, weighted vest walks or hit.
- 2:2403:00.37
- 2:26Lauren Brown
- 2:28Hit 100%.
- 2:3003:01.90
- 2:32Amanda Gargiulo
- 2:34Yeah, I agree. Hit for sure.
- 2:3603:05.26
- 2:38Lauren Brown
- 2:40Magnesium or melatonin? I'm
- 2:4203:07.89
- 2:44Amanda Gargiulo
- 2:46Magnesium and L-theanine and valerian root. Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:4803:11.50
- 2:50Lauren Brown
- 2:52with you. I i love valerian root. That's like every night for me. All right let's do Let's do one more. Therapy dog or therapy human?
- 2:5403:22.19
- 2:56Amanda Gargiulo
- 2:58Oh, I'm so lucky I have both. Like, Bati's my therapy dog and Lauren, you're my therapy human. so
- 3:0003:29.34
- 3:02Lauren Brown
- 3:04I know. I mean, I'm like therapy dog, just because I don't listen to a therapy human. I mean, unless it was you, I listened to you. But um there's nothing like bocce kisses.
- 3:0603:38.78
- 3:08Lauren Brown
- 3:10puppy kisses. Soon, bocce, soon.
- 3:1203:40.69
- 3:14Amanda Gargiulo
- 3:16Oh, yeah. She can't wait for you to come and watch her.
- 3:1803:42.10
- 3:20Lauren Brown
- 3:22Yep.
- 3:2403:43.14
- 3:26Amanda Gargiulo
- 3:28She can't wait.
- 3:3003:44.18
- 3:32Lauren Brown
- 3:34soon bochi soon
- 3:3603:46.75
- 3:38Amanda Gargiulo
- 3:40She's on the floor over there. and So I am so excited to dive into today's episode, like to just really just give our honest opinions about things, whether they're right, wrong, middle of left of the road, doesn't matter, i feel like.
- 3:4204:02.33
- 3:44Amanda Gargiulo
- 3:46So um I would like to start something light, like what, and we might have spoken about this in the past before, but what's one wellness trend that you tried, really committed to, did your best with, and then just quietly abandoned it?
- 3:4804:16.74
- 3:50Lauren Brown
- 3:52So I don't know that I'd follow wellness trends too much because I've always just kind of did what worked for me. But what came to my mind, this is so stupid. I'm like, Billy Blanks, Tyboe.
- 3:5404:35.86
- 3:56Amanda Gargiulo
- 3:58Oh my god, I did typo.
- 4:0004:37.71
- 4:02Lauren Brown
- 4:04That's like, I know I was like, what's one wellness trend? And that was definitely a trend in like the late nineties, early two thousands. Cause I remember another story. Deanna was doing a Billy blanks. My older sister was doing a Billy blanks Tybo video when nine 11 happened. And my nephew Trey, who was born in 2000,
- 4:0605:00.98
- 4:08Lauren Brown
- 4:10he turned the video off. And when he turned the video off was when we realized what had happened because the news was on and that's how we found out. But that's how I always know that that Billy Blanks was still a thing around, you know, the nineties, two thousands. But I was all in on Billy Blanks, man. And then I definitely quietly just let it go.
- 4:1205:22.58
- 4:14Amanda Gargiulo
- 4:16Man. All right. For me, there's so many. but Like at first when when I saw this question, I was like, i haven't even done any of this stuff. And then I'm like, oh my God, I did so many.
- 4:1805:32.10
- 4:20Lauren Brown
- 4:22You're going to probably speak and I'm gonna be like, me too.
- 4:2405:32.14
- 4:26Amanda Gargiulo
- 4:28It's like, oh. Yeah. Okay. Ready? So should I throw them all out? First off, I did Tai Bo, but then I did the Shaunti dance and the beach body workouts from the beach body workouts.
- 4:3005:42.53
- 4:32Lauren Brown
- 4:34Yeah, I didn't do those, but yes.
- 4:3605:44.02
- 4:38Amanda Gargiulo
- 4:40So I did those, but I did the special K diet. Okay.
- 4:4205:48.46
- 4:44Lauren Brown
- 4:46Didn't do that.
- 4:4805:49.30
- 4:50Amanda Gargiulo
- 4:52I did the, I did the Atkins, no carb. I did the South beach and all of them were very quickly abandoned very quickly, like not survive without,
- 4:5406:01.82
- 4:56Lauren Brown
- 4:58Yeah.
- 5:0006:03.96
- 5:02Amanda Gargiulo
- 5:04could not survive without carbs. i was like wild without carbs.
- 5:0606:07.48
- 5:08Lauren Brown
- 5:10Yeah, I mean, I would say for me, like if I was looking at whenever I played around with my diet, it was more related to figure competitions and bodybuilding. So it wasn't really a trend.
- 5:1206:16.26
- 5:14Amanda Gargiulo
- 5:16Mm-hmm.
- 5:1806:17.07
- 5:20Lauren Brown
- 5:22It was like a phase. it was a phase I was in So, um all right. And just for the record, you guys, I literally went into Claude before we jumped on and just was like, spit out a bunch of random ass questions for us. So we might be sifting through these a little bit while we're recording just for the the heads up. So,
- 5:2406:38.54
- 5:26Lauren Brown
- 5:28Let's see, what would we like to talk about next? I like this question though, and we've definitely covered this on a podcast with, I can't remember, i mean, actually we've probably had multiple people where this has come up for our chronic dieters or healthy eaters.
- 5:3006:59.03
- 5:32Lauren Brown
- 5:34At what point does eating healthy become disordered eating in disguise? I think that's an important topic, or I think that's an important thought for some people to sit with, actually.
- 5:3607:10.23
- 5:38Amanda Gargiulo
- 5:40Yeah. Well, it speaks volumes to me because I suffered with orthorexia. So like I got to that point where eating healthy and clean eating, like that term really defines me for a good amount of years of my life.
- 5:4207:24.66
- 5:44Amanda Gargiulo
- 5:46And it but for me, it was disguised as my 60 day yoga challenge, right? Like I did um with, not that that's what caused it, but that's what
- 5:4807:31.10
- 5:50Lauren Brown
- 5:52Mm-hmm.
- 5:5407:36.89
- 5:56Amanda Gargiulo
- 5:58I guess spiked it in me because there were so many things at that time going on in my life. My father had ah just passed away from cancer. I was like, I was looking for something.
- 6:0007:47.42
- 6:02Amanda Gargiulo
- 6:04and I felt like I felt completely out of control. And the only thing I could control was what I put in my mouth, but it was disguised as clean eating and taking on the 16 day yoga challenge.
- 6:0607:57.32
- 6:08Lauren Brown
- 6:10Mm-hmm.
- 6:1207:57.61
- 6:14Amanda Gargiulo
- 6:16So I completely cut out sugar. i cut out meat, dairy, like essentially like cleaned up, my nutrition.
- 6:1808:08.73
- 6:20Lauren Brown
- 6:22Mm-hmm.
- 6:2408:09.03
- 6:26Amanda Gargiulo
- 6:28And it just, it just backfired, man. It it like starts a spiral.
- 6:3008:12.62
- 6:32Lauren Brown
- 6:34Yeah.
- 6:3608:13.26
- 6:38Amanda Gargiulo
- 6:40I just kept losing weight. And I remember i I was strength training, practicing yoga six days a week, clean eating. And I remember I went to the gym and one of the trainers at the gym actually pulled me aside and he was like, you should start tracking your food to make sure you're getting enough calories.
- 6:4208:28.20
- 6:44Lauren Brown
- 6:46Yeah.
- 6:4808:28.41
- 6:50Amanda Gargiulo
- 6:52And that made it worse because tell somebody who's type A who feels completely out of control to track their food, to make sure they're eating enough.
- 6:5408:30.46
- 6:56Lauren Brown
- 6:58Yeah.
- 7:0008:36.28
- 7:02Amanda Gargiulo
- 7:04And then it went the it went the other way. So I was tracking my food and I was eating like maybe 1200 calories a day. And I was strength training and practicing hot yoga six days a week. So it was, um that for me was like the spiral. That was when, and then it took me doing another 60 day yoga challenge to wake me up to what I was doing.
- 7:0608:56.22
- 7:08Amanda Gargiulo
- 7:10And I remember, I remember my, um, my mentor Larissa, who I'm dying to have her on the podcast, but she, she called me out. Like she looks me right in the face and she was like, cause, cause the, the verbiage was like within the 60 day yoga challenge was about cleaning up things that were in your way. And then she said to me, but what if you're doing something that's harming you?
- 7:1209:22.10
- 7:14Lauren Brown
- 7:16Yeah.
- 7:1809:22.68
- 7:20Amanda Gargiulo
- 7:22and And like the first, um, Yama, like the Yamas and Niyamas is what we base our yoga practice on. It's like the, the, the basically like the rules and the observances of yoga. The first Yama is Ahimsa, which is do no harm, but first against yourself. So it was actually harming myself and I didn't realize it. And that was when I woke up and through that 60 day yoga challenge, I started to reintroduce the things that I was so rigid on pulling out of my diet.
- 7:2409:53.59
- 7:26Amanda Gargiulo
- 7:28And now like Lauren, you know, I love a good cupcake. I love cookies. Like it's, it's like that all things, right. All things can be integrated. So it's something that I still struggle with every day.
- 7:3010:02.55
- 7:32Lauren Brown
- 7:34Yeah.
- 7:3610:05.52
- 7:38Amanda Gargiulo
- 7:40It's not like it just went away. You know, it's still there.
- 7:4210:07.85
- 7:44Lauren Brown
- 7:46Right.
- 7:4810:08.49
- 7:50Amanda Gargiulo
- 7:52Like I felt like, um, I recently had to have a root, two root canals. I feel like I'm talking so much. Oh my God. But I recently had to have
- 7:5410:15.61
- 7:56Lauren Brown
- 7:58Oh, no, I love that you're sharing all this. So, like, keep going.
- 8:0010:19.22
- 8:02Amanda Gargiulo
- 8:04Okay. Okay. So I recently had to have two, almost three root canals and I had to stop working out for a week because they don't want the blood to come to your, to your face essentially. So you can't really, they don't really want you lifting because you could be grinding your teeth.
- 8:0610:31.13
- 8:08Amanda Gargiulo
- 8:10They don't want you upside down because of the change in your blood flow. And i put on a pair of capris the other day and they felt tight and immediately I was triggered.
- 8:1210:42.01
- 8:14Lauren Brown
- 8:16Yeah.
- 8:1810:42.55
- 8:20Amanda Gargiulo
- 8:22And I was like, no, Amanda, because you have to make sure you're nourishing yourself because you're on an antibiotic. So this is like the constant, it never, it does for me, I can't say that I can't speak for anybody that deals with this, but for me, it never really went away.
- 8:2410:47.62
- 8:26Lauren Brown
- 8:28Right.
- 8:3010:56.06
- 8:32Amanda Gargiulo
- 8:34I just have to talk to that voice now.
- 8:3610:58.66
- 8:38Lauren Brown
- 8:40Yeah, because it might it might never go away. And I think something that will one, thank you for sharing that, because i knew that that question would probably
- 8:4211:02.04
- 8:44Amanda Gargiulo
- 8:46Yeah, course.
- 8:4811:09.43
- 8:50Lauren Brown
- 8:52pull that side of things out. And I do, I think it's important for people to hear your story. I know it's come up in the past, but I know there's people that this might be their first time listening to our podcast.
- 8:5411:20.38
- 8:56Lauren Brown
- 8:58And I think that it's important to remember that
- 9:0011:20.88
- 9:02Amanda Gargiulo
- 9:04sure
- 9:0611:25.30
- 9:08Lauren Brown
- 9:10One, yes, that way of thinking is probably goingnna always be a part of who you are and you might, but the ability to catch it and shift it is showing that like the growth and the work was done. And i think that's extremely important.
- 9:1211:40.09
- 9:14Lauren Brown
- 9:16Something that I want people to also think about too, is that when we've become so obsessed with eating healthy, right? And tracking all of our food, It goes against the idea, again, another episode that we've had with, i think it was Alison Kane who spoke on intuitive eating.
- 9:1811:59.29
- 9:20Lauren Brown
- 9:22And it's like, you obsess, you obsess, you obsess, and have this disordered eating cycle where you're then no longer just paying attention to how you feel, why you're craving certain things. And then even just being present in the moment.
- 9:2412:15.60
- 9:26Lauren Brown
- 9:28I've like so many reels have been popping up lately where it's like, you know, don't be the person. And I think Alison actually posted something like this, like where don't be the person who's so obsessed about everything that you're eating at every single meal that you're no longer present with your friends, with your family and enjoying those moments.
- 9:3012:35.44
- 9:32Amanda Gargiulo
- 9:34Thank
- 9:3612:35.82
- 9:38Lauren Brown
- 9:40So I think, eating healthy becomes disordered eating when you're actually starting to shift how you show up for the people in your life or how you go about your day based on your eating habits. Like where will you go out to eat? When will you eat?
- 9:4212:56.31
- 9:44Lauren Brown
- 9:46Planning the timing of when you do things around when you're eating. Like there's people, some people's lives become fixated around their healthy eating habits. And it should be that eating healthy, going to the gym, doing these things are just a part of your life and who you are. And you just have the habit of making healthy choices, not that it's all consuming.
- 9:4813:17.78
- 9:50Amanda Gargiulo
- 9:52Yeah. You know, you're so articulate. yeah Cause I can say something and i feel like when I say it it doesn't come out as eloquent as when you say it.
- 9:5413:28.07
- 9:56Lauren Brown
- 9:58I don't know if that's true, but thank you.
- 10:0013:30.69
- 10:02Amanda Gargiulo
- 10:04I think so. I think so. This is, this is a good one. I think that I love because you and i if you've been listening to the podcast, following along with us, you know how Lauren and I obsessively protect our sleep.
- 10:0613:45.66
- 10:08Lauren Brown
- 10:10a
- 10:1213:45.85
- 10:14Amanda Gargiulo
- 10:16So love to know what you think about women specifically being so chronically sleep deprived and why no, like we don't talk about it enough.
- 10:1813:56.44
- 10:20Lauren Brown
- 10:22Because I think we're just supposed to accept it.
- 10:2414:00.50
- 10:26Amanda Gargiulo
- 10:28And it's like a badge of honor for some people. I feel like they're like, oh, well i got six hours last night.
- 10:3014:06.14
- 10:32Lauren Brown
- 10:34Right. And I'm like, my goal, I'm like, if I can get to eight, If I can get to nine, I mean, that's maybe pushing it just because I'll probably just wake up anyway. But i think, yes, for so long, it's been a badge of honor. Like how long will you work and how little will you sleep?
- 10:3614:24.34
- 10:38Lauren Brown
- 10:40And if you can tell people that I don't need sleep, I can hustle harder than anyone else.
- 10:4214:24.62
- 10:44Amanda Gargiulo
- 10:46Thank you.
- 10:4814:31.21
- 10:50Lauren Brown
- 10:52I can, you know, raise my kids, go to work, train, perform, and I'm beast-moting it all the time. Like, it is eventually going to catch up to you as like stress, injury, irritability, relationships that are falling apart and like a cascade of other things that can go wrong because and I've said this again, I've said this before that there's a book and I don't know the name of it, but Coach Rich, who i do the triathlon coaching with with Grit to Greatness, has a book and it it literally is like all of the recovery modalities that you could possibly think of, like a thick ass book.
- 10:5415:07.45
- 10:56Lauren Brown
- 10:58And at the end, it basically comes together to say that the most important thing you can do for your health, for your recovery, for your wellbeing is get some damn sleep and prioritize your sleep.
- 11:0015:17.02
- 11:02Amanda Gargiulo
- 11:04Mm-hmm.
- 11:0615:18.71
- 11:08Lauren Brown
- 11:10Like it is a sacred ritual. I was just having conversation with a client about it and it's like,
- 11:1215:26.29
- 11:14Lauren Brown
- 11:16have the routine in place. but and I know we have a podcast episode about this, but like have it in place and honor it. And at the end of the day, like who cares why we got to this point in our culture and our society where like, well, I don't need sleep.
- 11:1815:42.29
- 11:20Lauren Brown
- 11:22Good for fucking you, man. Like, sorry, was very good for you, man. um But like, it should be something that we all are like, hell yeah, I got eight, nine hours of sleep last night and I feel great because you'll be able to like function better with the time that you're awake.
- 11:2416:05.49
- 11:26Amanda Gargiulo
- 11:28So good. I love the saying and I thought about this the other day because I had very busy day at Home Shopping Network the other day. So I told Chris, like, I want to go to sleep early. I need to make sure I sleep early. And I did take Z-Quil just to make sure I got sleep. Sometimes we just need a little bit of help.
- 11:3016:21.59
- 11:32Lauren Brown
- 11:34I do, I do.
- 11:3616:22.96
- 11:38Amanda Gargiulo
- 11:40As I was driving there, i slept so good the night before that I was like, as I was driving there, i thought of that quote, a good day starts the night before.
- 11:4216:32.69
- 11:44Lauren Brown
- 11:46is said
- 11:4816:33.77
- 11:50Amanda Gargiulo
- 11:52It's so true. Because I felt I was able to take on that day because I slept. Mm-hmm.
- 11:5416:38.64
- 11:56Lauren Brown
- 11:58Yeah. It's super important. And um wait, I'm like scrolling through some of these questions and there's one that I think I want to cover too.
- 12:0016:47.52
- 12:02Amanda Gargiulo
- 12:04Okay, go for it.
- 12:0616:48.56
- 12:08Lauren Brown
- 12:10from sleep You guys can go listen to our other podcast on sleep.
- 12:1216:48.58
- 12:14Amanda Gargiulo
- 12:16Go for it.
- 12:1816:50.92
- 12:20Lauren Brown
- 12:22We are obviously like super crazy about it, but um is the 10,000 steps goal actually science or just a number of pedometer company made up in the sixties?
- 12:2417:02.13
- 12:26Amanda Gargiulo
- 12:28That's so funny. So go ahead.
- 12:3017:06.35
- 12:32Lauren Brown
- 12:34but know well Okay, i i I think it's a silly number.
- 12:3617:11.57
- 12:38Amanda Gargiulo
- 12:40Okay.
- 12:4217:12.00
- 12:44Lauren Brown
- 12:46What's your take on it?
- 12:4817:13.04
- 12:50Amanda Gargiulo
- 12:52Yeah, so actually working with our clientele and working like under the non-entropathic doctor that I work under, ah there's actual research and it's not 10,000. That's not the number.
- 12:5417:24.24
- 12:56Amanda Gargiulo
- 12:58it's so It's somewhere between like five and seven, I think, but it's not like the research does not point to 10,000.
- 13:0017:27.95
- 13:02Lauren Brown
- 13:04Yeah.
- 13:0617:30.05
- 13:08Amanda Gargiulo
- 13:10So it's actually made up.
- 13:1217:32.00
- 13:14Lauren Brown
- 13:16And I think it's great to have, i will say, I think it's great to have a goal and hit 10,000 steps, but I also don't think that the goal should be like, let's just count your steps because it's counting the steps that you walked to the bathroom, the steps that you like walked around the office, which again, it's all great.
- 13:1817:48.42
- 13:20Amanda Gargiulo
- 13:22Mm-hmm.
- 13:2417:53.59
- 13:26Lauren Brown
- 13:28And I understand. and Amanda's um client base is people that are going through cancer treatment and post-treatment, right? so Different, I'm not directing this necessarily at that demographic, but I think as a culture, we've normalized that if you walk, if you take 10,000 steps a day, you're like, you're active and you're making like headway on your goals. And I'm not knocking it because if you're going from completely sedentary, i totally think it's great. There's noise outside if you can hear it. it's
- 13:3018:27.60
- 13:32Lauren Brown
- 13:34but There's something going on on main street. But yeah, But the reality is like you want to get your body moving and try to work ah up to like higher intensity things because your steps could literally look like the slowest, most casual steps that are not even edging your heart rate up a drop. Whereas if you're taking 10,000 intentional steps a day, it's a different story. So I just think that when somebody says, oh, I did 10,000 steps, i'm like, did you do 10,000 like
- 13:3619:00.18
- 13:38Lauren Brown
- 13:40steps that you were walking and you actually had intention or did you like were 5,000 of them? You know, it's just, it's a, to me, it's a, it's great to have a goal if you're just getting started. But for most people, I think having maybe like go for a 30 minute walk, I would rather somebody say I went for a 30 minute walk, intentionally walked for 30 minutes straight or 15 minutes straight than that. I accumulated 10,000 steps over the day.
- 13:4219:28.79
- 13:44Lauren Brown
- 13:46And maybe I'm being harsh. I don't know.
- 13:4819:31.06
- 13:50Amanda Gargiulo
- 13:52No, I actually appreciate that because I just went for 30 minute walk and I got about 3,400 steps, but yeah, that's what I did.
- 13:5419:36.96
- 13:56Lauren Brown
- 13:58we go. I'd rather you get 3,400 consecutive steps.
- 14:0019:42.52
- 14:02Amanda Gargiulo
- 14:04and And you know what? It felt good to get out because i had like all that energy. think it's because I'm not working out. I like all that energy. I was like, I have to release this somehow. I can't sit here and do client protocol.
- 14:0619:52.18
- 14:08Lauren Brown
- 14:10yeah
- 14:1219:53.87
- 14:14Amanda Gargiulo
- 14:16So I'm losing my mind.
- 14:1819:56.27
- 14:20Lauren Brown
- 14:22yeah
- 14:2419:57.49
- 14:26Amanda Gargiulo
- 14:28So funny. Oh man. This one I love. i'm gonna go I'm scrolling too here and I love this one. So we did an episode all on this too and we had we had like a few experts on talking about perimenopause.
- 14:3020:11.63
- 14:32Amanda Gargiulo
- 14:34But perimenopause, Lauren, why did no one warn us and what do women actually need to know?
- 14:3620:19.98
- 14:38Lauren Brown
- 14:40that every symptom you have in your forties might be
- 14:4220:26.03
- 14:44Amanda Gargiulo
- 14:46I love that you just said that because I'm going to see a new gynecologist in July. um and I made a list for him of every symptom I've been dealing with. Like, should should I read this list?
- 14:4820:38.63
- 14:50Amanda Gargiulo
- 14:52Do you see this, Lauren? This is my list.
- 14:5420:42.22
- 14:56Lauren Brown
- 14:58If you're just listening on the, the podcast on audio, she's showing me literally a notes list.
- 15:0020:49.01
- 15:02Amanda Gargiulo
- 15:04Yeah, I think there's like 20 of them in here. It's wild. It's wild. And I didn't, eat some of these things I didn't even link to perimenopause until i like started watching reels online. And I'm like, Oh, so this could be perimenopause, huh? This is crazy.
- 15:0621:04.00
- 15:08Lauren Brown
- 15:10Well, even like itchy ears.
- 15:1221:05.68
- 15:14Amanda Gargiulo
- 15:16Yes. And yes, I wrote that itchy ears and I've been getting like ringing you in my ear, which is interesting. They say like hearing changes could be that I have joint pain, PMS for two weeks, anxiety, depression, itchy ears, itchy nose,
- 15:1821:16.53
- 15:20Lauren Brown
- 15:22Now you're making
- 15:2421:21.26
- 15:26Amanda Gargiulo
- 15:28Um, rage rage, like wild rage, night sweats, panic attacks, inability to handle stressful situations, teeth grinding, mood swings, and crying spells.
- 15:3021:21.57
- 15:32Lauren Brown
- 15:34my ears itchy. I'm like, wait, my ears are itchy.
- 15:3621:35.52
- 15:38Lauren Brown
- 15:40Ain't that a bitch.
- 15:4221:36.66
- 15:44Amanda Gargiulo
- 15:46Yeah. Should I just keep going? Everybody.
- 15:4821:38.59
- 15:50Lauren Brown
- 15:52I know. Well, it's crazy.
- 15:5421:39.16
- 15:56Amanda Gargiulo
- 15:58for it.
- 16:0021:39.82
- 16:02Lauren Brown
- 16:04I'm like, I, so for, I'm going overshare here. So whatever, i think you who cares. Right. So I haven't had a period in over 16 or almost 16 years. November will be 16 years. And I'll say, i mean, I honestly, for the most part, like i just assumed I was like in menopause really early. Cause I'm like, Oh my God, what the heck is going on? um and now at 43, almost 44.
- 16:0622:08.34
- 16:08Lauren Brown
- 16:10forty four um Now I'm like, oh my god I'm spotting again out of nowhere. What in the literal hell is going on in my body that I'm like, was saying to my sister, I'm like, am I going to start like reversing and going through puberty again and start like getting my period at 44 years old? Like just, you know, what the hell? So that for me is like,
- 16:1222:32.11
- 16:14Lauren Brown
- 16:16I mean, it makes me feel a little bit better in the sense that I'm like, okay, guess there's still something going on with my hormones because doctors were like, oh no you're fine. Your hormone levels are all like, I've had blood tests done. Your hormone levels are fine. I'm like, you sure about that?
- 16:1822:45.23
- 16:20Lauren Brown
- 16:22Something seems a little bit off, but um yeah, it's wild.
- 16:2422:50.00
- 16:26Amanda Gargiulo
- 16:28But that does happen to athletes, right? Because you have such little body fat.
- 16:3022:53.84
- 16:32Lauren Brown
- 16:34Um, honestly, i should have been more of an advocate for my own health, but when it happened, I was 26 years old or maybe, um, maybe a little bit older.
- 16:3622:58.97
- 16:38Amanda Gargiulo
- 16:40Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
- 16:4223:03.55
- 16:44Lauren Brown
- 16:46Sorry. If I, if it was 16 years ago, oh yeah I was 28, I was 28 years old. old That's insane. And my doctor was like, well, if you don't care, like, well, you're the doctor dude. Like a male doctor. i was like, uh, so, and, um,
- 16:4823:21.17
- 16:50Lauren Brown
- 16:52I just never looked into it and I did assume that, but then the more that I listened to you know endurance sports specific, a like nutritionists and like doctors and scientists, it's like, that is not normal.
- 16:5423:36.37
- 16:56Lauren Brown
- 16:58It does not matter. There are professional athletes that are way leaner than I am who train a lot more hours than I do and they have ah a normal menstrual cycle.
- 17:0023:41.45
- 17:02Amanda Gargiulo
- 17:04Thank you.
- 17:0623:44.63
- 17:08Lauren Brown
- 17:10So I was always like, I always just accepted it, that it was what it was. And I figured I would obviously at this point, once I hit my forties, I was like, I'm definitely never getting a period again at this point, there's just no way.
- 17:1223:56.53
- 17:14Lauren Brown
- 17:16And now I'm like, what in the world is this? was texting my sister. i was like, think I'm freaking spotting right now. What the hell? And I'm like, and it happened two months in a row. I'm like, no, no, no, no. no Don't you dare. It's wild.
- 17:1824:14.64
- 17:20Amanda Gargiulo
- 17:22One of those wilds, man.
- 17:2424:16.02
- 17:26Lauren Brown
- 17:28So yeah, so perimenopause, wild time.
- 17:3024:18.64
- 17:32Amanda Gargiulo
- 17:34Yeah. Wild time. And I got in my cycle. There was one month where I got it within three weeks. So that happens too. And then it stops and then it restarts. So that's why I'll do. So it's just, it's been, um a roller coaster ride for sure. and My poor husband deals with all of the side effects and the symptoms.
- 17:3624:37.65
- 17:38Lauren Brown
- 17:40yeah Chris, you're the real MVP.
- 17:4224:40.22
- 17:44Amanda Gargiulo
- 17:46Poor Chris. Oh man.
- 17:4824:43.76
- 17:50Amanda Gargiulo
- 17:52um man
- 17:5424:44.85
- 17:56Lauren Brown
- 17:58All right. um So, but if anybody is interested, if you didn't catch our perimenopause series, go back and listen to it. Cause we did have three episodes that were covering some ah hot topics around perimenopause. So we'll leave it there.
- 18:0024:58.71
- 18:02Lauren Brown
- 18:04All right, let's see. going with dry January, sober October.
- 18:0625:09.27
- 18:08Lauren Brown
- 18:10Are these helpful resets or just band-aids? What's your take, Amanda?
- 18:1225:15.71
- 18:14Amanda Gargiulo
- 18:16That's such a good question. And I think it depends. It depends on the person, no? So like if you're doing a dry January and then it leaks over into February and March, some people, once they do one of these, take on the lifestyle. So it could be something that gets you started on the journey.
- 18:1825:31.12
- 18:20Amanda Gargiulo
- 18:22But if you're just going to do it and then go right back to the way that you were doing things before, then
- 18:2425:31.47
- 18:26Lauren Brown
- 18:28Mm-hmm.
- 18:3025:37.43
- 18:32Amanda Gargiulo
- 18:34Sure, a bandage, you know, it's like, it's not, nothing's changing, but it depends on what your goal is when you're doing it.
- 18:3625:39.73
- 18:38Lauren Brown
- 18:40yeah
- 18:4225:42.87
- 18:44Amanda Gargiulo
- 18:46Like, are you trying it for a reason? Like, are you doing dry January because you don't feel well after you drink, you know, because you realize that it's not worth it, your sleep stinks and all the, all these things. Right. So I've had, I think, I don't know who spoke to a while ago. I was talking to somebody and I think it was at a party or something. And he was telling me that he did dry January and then just stop drinking. He was like, I didn't realize how much it was affecting my workouts, my recovery time, my sleep. He's like, until I stopped doing it.
- 18:4826:13.49
- 18:50Amanda Gargiulo
- 18:52And you and I, Lauren talked about this a lot. Like sometimes we think we feel okay because that becomes the norm. But when we actually do something to remove these, and and I'm going to call it what it is. Like in my nutrition training, alcohol was called a toxin.
- 18:5426:27.03
- 18:56Amanda Gargiulo
- 18:58It's toxin.
- 19:0026:27.44
- 19:02Lauren Brown
- 19:04seven
- 19:0626:27.87
- 19:08Amanda Gargiulo
- 19:10it's it You're putting a toxin in your body that your body has to now metabolize and it has to push out. So when he, when he stopped drinking, he was like, I, I could work out harder. could, I slept better. was recovering quicker. So he just, he just continued on. So I think it really does depend on the person.
- 19:1226:45.78
- 19:14Amanda Gargiulo
- 19:16Do you have take on it?
- 19:1826:47.12
- 19:20Lauren Brown
- 19:22I literally was going say, it depends on your why behind doing dry January, sober October, and it absolutely is great for a reset if you wanna give your liver a rest, if you're somebody who drinks multiple times during the week.
- 19:2427:01.39
- 19:26Lauren Brown
- 19:28um And it can help somebody realize that, oh, I don't have to drink as often. And if, again, you're gonna fall back into your old habits, maybe it gave you a reset, maybe it was a bandaid. I'm all for people trying to play around with drinking less.
- 19:3027:21.97
- 19:32Lauren Brown
- 19:34I know i perform better. i mean, it messes up your HRV. If you wear any sort of device that tracks your resting heart rate and your HRV, your HRV will take the biggest dip.
- 19:3627:33.87
- 19:38Lauren Brown
- 19:40And I'll tell you, i know from like, I definitely used to drink more than I drink now. I don't drink a ton now. But when my HRV was low and I was trying to do certain workouts that were more of like keeping your heart rate in a certain zone,
- 19:4227:49.91
- 19:44Lauren Brown
- 19:46it was really hard for me to keep my heart rate in zone two because my HRV was low, my resting heart rate was now high, and your recovery is just taking a total dip. So if you're looking to look better, feel better, perform better, recover better, lowering or omitting alcohol is going to help. But Again, it has to be tied to why you want to do it in the first place. And I'll never be somebody that's like, I will not be. And I mean, again, who knows, maybe in two years when I'll change in my mind, but like, I also am not a fan of people being like, oh, I cut alcohol out of my life and everyone should. And if you don't, you have no self-control and, Like, because not everyone who drinks is drinking and having an issue with drinking, right? Like you can absolutely, like when I'm not in race mode, I will absolutely be enjoying wine and all the things.
- 19:4828:44.88
- 19:50Lauren Brown
- 19:52I also am able to drink two glasses of wine and call it a night and not like, not drink a whole bottle by myself and
- 19:5428:48.67
- 19:56Amanda Gargiulo
- 19:58Mm-hmm.
- 20:0028:52.56
- 20:02Lauren Brown
- 20:04there definitely was a time where I could do that. Not going to lie. So I really think it is ah it's a completely individual thing. And I'm proud of all the people out there who have gone completely sober and are feeling the best they've ever felt. And I'm also right there with the people who can drink on the weekends, not go completely crazy and ruin their whole entire week. But If you feel like drinking is becoming an issue and you're doing dry January, sober October, and then going right back to your old patterns, that is what we would call a bandaid.
- 20:0629:26.38
- 20:08Amanda Gargiulo
- 20:10Definitely. I kind of like these. So we have we have like different headers for those of you listening. And one of them is what would you do if and I love this. I want to know, Lauren, what would you do if your doctor dismisses symptoms you knew wasn't right?
- 20:1229:42.13
- 20:14Lauren Brown
- 20:16So, Old me, hence no period for 16 years, would just i i just trusted my doctor. And i think now I'm much more likely to educate myself and also look for other opinions. So my hope for myself is that if I'm in a situation like that, that I would
- 20:1830:11.58
- 20:20Lauren Brown
- 20:22not even necessarily question that doctor, I would maybe just go to another doctor.
- 20:2430:15.22
- 20:26Amanda Gargiulo
- 20:28Mm-hmm.
- 20:3030:15.45
- 20:32Lauren Brown
- 20:34Because sometimes if you're going to the same doctor and questioning them, you'll just get pushed back that they're right, they're the doctor, as opposed to just going to somebody else and getting a second, third, fourth opinion. Because doctors are human too.
- 20:3630:30.73
- 20:38Lauren Brown
- 20:40And there's different doctors that practice different ways.
- 20:4230:30.71
- 20:44Amanda Gargiulo
- 20:46Mm-hmm.
- 20:4830:33.12
- 20:50Lauren Brown
- 20:52And even when we think about the, when we spoke with the biological dentistry, right? And there's people that practice medicine differently. And it's almost like the same idea too, where people can get to point from point A to point B with a fitness goal in multiple different ways, right? And um there's doctors that are are going to also believe different things. So going back to the whole idea that they're also human, doctors can make mistakes. Doctors can misdiagnose things. They can miss things. They might not be as, they might not have had a patient
- 20:5431:07.73
- 20:56Lauren Brown
- 20:58in the past with the condition that you have where another doctor maybe did experience it, or maybe another doctor has access to tools like you with your oral situation going on.
- 21:0031:18.96
- 21:02Lauren Brown
- 21:04So i I think the the new me is ideally gonna get another opinion at this point, but I've definitely fallen victim of just, you know, sitting back and taking it.
- 21:0631:34.84
- 21:08Amanda Gargiulo
- 21:10Mm-hmm. Yeah.
- 21:1231:36.30
- 21:14Lauren Brown
- 21:16you
- 21:1831:37.56
- 21:20Amanda Gargiulo
- 21:22Um, for me, I think sometimes think I know too much now, like working under a naturopathic doctor, it's very different mindsets.
- 21:2431:39.97
- 21:26Lauren Brown
- 21:28Mm-hmm.
- 21:3031:44.82
- 21:32Amanda Gargiulo
- 21:34And like, I'm learning how much we go to doctors because they're good at what they do. So like we, we go to like the best oncologist because they know what they're doing. But a lot of times, unfortunately, doctors don't get training above and beyond their specialty.
- 21:3632:01.02
- 21:38Amanda Gargiulo
- 21:40So they have to choose to go outside of what they've learned in school and start to do their own research. So I think that for a long time, and I don't know, Chris and I had a conversation about this recently about how like my parents, I feel like that generation, i don't want to put this on them either though, but but my parents were always like, yeah, the doctor says it, that's it.
- 21:4232:21.06
- 21:44Amanda Gargiulo
- 21:46It's gospel, right? But I don't i don't accept that um and i because I think, like you said, they're human.
- 21:4832:23.16
- 21:50Lauren Brown
- 21:52Right.
- 21:5432:26.00
- 21:56Lauren Brown
- 21:58Mm-hmm.
- 22:0032:29.34
- 22:02Amanda Gargiulo
- 22:04they do their best to like learn other things. But I remember when I went to Sloan and I had precancerous cells in my breasts and I remember asking the doctor about other things. And she was like, to be honest with you, I don't know.
- 22:0632:40.97
- 22:08Amanda Gargiulo
- 22:10And like, it was really awesome that she was honest with me, but she was the best in her field at breast cancer surgery. Right. So that's why I went to her.
- 22:1232:47.12
- 22:14Lauren Brown
- 22:16Right.
- 22:1832:48.20
- 22:20Amanda Gargiulo
- 22:22I wasn't going to her for nutrition, for supplementation, for these other things.
- 22:2432:50.48
- 22:26Lauren Brown
- 22:28Mm-hmm.
- 22:3032:52.16
- 22:32Amanda Gargiulo
- 22:34So I think I I've definitely in the past gone to other doctors. And I remember i had a UTI once.
- 22:3632:58.10
- 22:38Lauren Brown
- 22:40Yeah.
- 22:4233:00.08
- 22:44Amanda Gargiulo
- 22:46This is a funny story. I'm total overshare, but I had a UTI once like years ago and the doctor, I know my body. I am used to get UTIs all the time. I knew it was UTI. The doctor walks in she goes, there's no way you have a UTI.
- 22:4833:12.21
- 22:50Amanda Gargiulo
- 22:52And then she looked at the, like the strip and she goes, oh my God, you have a UTI.
- 22:5433:15.39
- 22:56Lauren Brown
- 22:58Yeah.
- 23:0033:16.94
- 23:02Amanda Gargiulo
- 23:04And I was like, and now you are no longer my doctor.
- 23:0633:19.60
- 23:08Lauren Brown
- 23:10Yeah.
- 23:1233:19.63
- 23:14Amanda Gargiulo
- 23:16like That was it.
- 23:1833:20.24
- 23:20Lauren Brown
- 23:22um
- 23:2433:20.63
- 23:26Amanda Gargiulo
- 23:28I didn't say that to her, but Chris actually still goes to her, but I was like, she's not my doctor. You're like, walk into here and tell me that I don't have UTI. It's my body. I know what's going on.
- 23:3033:31.60
- 23:32Lauren Brown
- 23:34Right. And that's just really dismissed at that point too, where it's like, you don't know.
- 23:3633:32.48
- 23:38Amanda Gargiulo
- 23:40You know?
- 23:4233:36.34
- 23:44Amanda Gargiulo
- 23:46Yeah. And then, and then if she, if she said no to me, that could have turned into a horrible infection. I could have ended up hospitalized.
- 23:4833:43.15
- 23:50Lauren Brown
- 23:52I was in the hospital once with a UTI when I was, i was like in high school, i remember. And it was like, i was leaving school. I couldn't even stand upright. It was my birthday. And I remember my mom ended up taking me to the hospital and it was like the worst thing.
- 23:5433:58.10
- 23:56Lauren Brown
- 23:58feeling ever. It was literally like everything was cramping. I couldn't even stand up straight.
- 24:0034:02.40
- 24:02Amanda Gargiulo
- 24:04I'm so sorry that happened to you. That's horrible.
- 24:0634:04.54
- 24:08Lauren Brown
- 24:10Oh, sorry. I was like 17.
- 24:1234:07.89
- 24:14Amanda Gargiulo
- 24:16Fair enough.
- 24:1834:08.82
- 24:20Lauren Brown
- 24:22But um I like these, what would you do? You want to do like two more?
- 24:2434:12.05
- 24:26Amanda Gargiulo
- 24:28Sure.
- 24:3034:12.97
- 24:32Lauren Brown
- 24:34all right. So i'm going to go with, you had week with zero obligations. Would you actually rest or would you fill it?
- 24:3634:25.74
- 24:38Amanda Gargiulo
- 24:40Oh my gosh, this is so hard. So I think I would find a middle ground. So I wouldn't fill the whole thing. i would definitely prioritize. I'd probably still work out though. Like I'd work out because i love my workouts.
- 24:4234:36.14
- 24:44Lauren Brown
- 24:46yeah.
- 24:4834:39.66
- 24:50Amanda Gargiulo
- 24:52And then I'd go to the beach.
- 24:5434:42.09
- 24:56Lauren Brown
- 24:58Yeah.
- 25:0034:42.12
- 25:02Amanda Gargiulo
- 25:04and I'm like, all I want to do is go to the beach. I have not gotten to the beach yet. It is June 24th right now as we're recording. have not gotten to the beach yet. It stinks, but But I'm also somebody, it's so hard for me to sit down.
- 25:0634:50.44
- 25:08Lauren Brown
- 25:10Yeah.
- 25:1234:53.36
- 25:14Amanda Gargiulo
- 25:16Like yesterday, i really didn't need to do anything. And I was mopping my floors at nine o'clock last night. Cause I'm like, it's just, it somebody's got to do it. It's got to get done. So I have a lot of guilt around like just rest, which is not, not so great.
- 25:1835:07.16
- 25:20Amanda Gargiulo
- 25:22Yeah.
- 25:2435:07.34
- 25:26Lauren Brown
- 25:28Yeah.
- 25:3035:08.78
- 25:32Amanda Gargiulo
- 25:34What about you?
- 25:3635:10.32
- 25:38Lauren Brown
- 25:40It depends on the season.
- 25:4235:14.34
- 25:44Amanda Gargiulo
- 25:46Okay.
- 25:4835:14.84
- 25:50Lauren Brown
- 25:52So if it was winter and it was cold and snow, if it was like the blizzard that we had when I got to stay at your house, I'd be like, that was the best.
- 25:5435:21.38
- 25:56Amanda Gargiulo
- 25:58Yeah. That was so fun.
- 26:0035:23.66
- 26:02Lauren Brown
- 26:04I mean, it's like, it sucks like that it happened and we had to clean up after it. But the fact that I was stuck with you in your house and we could just be like, let's binge watch Love is Blind and do some work, but hang out with Bocce and that was it.
- 26:0635:37.45
- 26:08Lauren Brown
- 26:10So great. It was also only two days and I'm sure.
- 26:1235:38.57
- 26:14Amanda Gargiulo
- 26:16Yeah.
- 26:1835:39.74
- 26:20Lauren Brown
- 26:22So if it was a week, I think I would lose my mind doing nothing.
- 26:2435:43.64
- 26:26Amanda Gargiulo
- 26:28Yeah, for a week.
- 26:3035:44.94
- 26:32Lauren Brown
- 26:34And in the summertime, i definitely want to be like outside and doing things as much as possible.
- 26:3635:45.18
- 26:38Amanda Gargiulo
- 26:40Mm-hmm.
- 26:4235:50.86
- 26:44Lauren Brown
- 26:46So yeah I would probably regardless lean towards filling my time because unlike you, i have a really hard time sitting still.
- 26:4836:05.61
- 26:50Lauren Brown
- 26:52Even if I'm like dead ass exhausted, I'm just like, I think I could actually get up and do something. yeah. Yeah, I think we need to, I think you'd have to fly me to like an island and just drop me off there and and then I would chill.
- 26:5436:20.40
- 26:56Amanda Gargiulo
- 26:58Yeah. But you'd still like get up and go to the beach and set everything up and then rest.
- 27:0036:25.24
- 27:02Lauren Brown
- 27:04Oh yeah. And I'd probably still want to go for a run and everything. So if anybody wants to help me and Amanda chill, you can make a donation to us and we'll gladly take it and go on vacation and film.
- 27:0636:28.32
- 27:08Amanda Gargiulo
- 27:10Yeah.
- 27:1236:36.08
- 27:14Lauren Brown
- 27:16There we go.
- 27:1836:36.09
- 27:20Amanda Gargiulo
- 27:22Oh, I love that. Can we just on vacation anyway? Oh my God. So good. Okay. um Okay. Somebody offered you a pill that guaranteed you'd live to 100, but you have to give up, well, I can't even say this. You'd have to give up, well, wine. You like wine. You have to give up wine, coffee, or tea for you, and sugar forever.
- 27:2437:01.24
- 27:26Amanda Gargiulo
- 27:28Do you take it
- 27:3037:02.74
- 27:32Lauren Brown
- 27:34Absolutely not. No, because my goal is that I'm going live to be one hundred regardless. And I'm going be doing triathlons when I'm in my nineties and i don't need a pill to guarantee it unless it guarantees that I'm not go to have like a tragic accident that kills me.
- 27:3637:17.86
- 27:38Amanda Gargiulo
- 27:40Mm.
- 27:4237:17.92
- 27:44Lauren Brown
- 27:46But if it is just because going to guarantee my health, I'm going to just say, I'm going to do the best that I can be able to still, because that means you're not having like a cookie, a donut. And mean, like, nope, not happening.
- 27:4837:31.78
- 27:50Amanda Gargiulo
- 27:52Mm.
- 27:5437:33.20
- 27:56Lauren Brown
- 27:58That's a hard, a hard no for me.
- 28:0037:35.52
- 28:02Amanda Gargiulo
- 28:04Mm.
- 28:0637:35.70
- 28:08Lauren Brown
- 28:10I'm going to be a hundred hundred and three from my mouth to God's ears.
- 28:1237:39.58
- 28:14Amanda Gargiulo
- 28:16I love that. Yeah. yeah
- 28:1837:42.48
- 28:20Lauren Brown
- 28:22We're doing this podcast when we're a hundred and three. Imagine.
- 28:2437:45.28
- 28:26Amanda Gargiulo
- 28:28That'd be great. i would never stop. I love doing it. So I'd be 104.
- 28:3037:47.70
- 28:32Lauren Brown
- 28:34Yeah. It's going to be forever, man.
- 28:3637:50.50
- 28:38Amanda Gargiulo
- 28:40So that's great.
- 28:4237:53.93
- 28:44Lauren Brown
- 28:46It's going to be song. What is it? There's like a Disney, like, then I'm at a hundred and three, but but I don't know.
- 28:4838:02.28
- 28:50Amanda Gargiulo
- 28:52We have to look this up.
- 28:5438:02.86
- 28:56Lauren Brown
- 28:58tone deaf and I don't know. Anyway, on that note.
- 29:0038:05.80
- 29:02Amanda Gargiulo
- 29:04We have to look this up anyway. um So this question, I'm actually like the the skeptic in me and the and that the analyst in me is like, well, somebody offered your a pilliggra you pillow grant, you'd live to 100, but it doesn't say you'd be healthy.
- 29:0638:19.16
- 29:08Amanda Gargiulo
- 29:10Would you be like a functioning 100-year-old? Would you be like a crippled 100-year-old?
- 29:1238:22.04
- 29:14Lauren Brown
- 29:16True.
- 29:1838:24.03
- 29:20Amanda Gargiulo
- 29:22But i i saw like a while a few years ago that 90-something, 98-year-old yoga instructor, was she 98 or 93 or something?
- 29:2438:31.86
- 29:26Lauren Brown
- 29:28Mm-hmm.
- 29:3038:33.34
- 29:32Amanda Gargiulo
- 29:34That's my goal. I want to be 98 and teaching yoga.
- 29:3638:36.68
- 29:38Lauren Brown
- 29:40Yeah. I mean, I see people all the time now that are just, forget about it. There was a woman, she was in her 80s that finished at Kona last year. I'm like, I love you. i want to be you.
- 29:4238:47.57
- 29:44Lauren Brown
- 29:46There was a guy that was like 90 something at the USA Nationals, the ah Nationals for triathlon.
- 29:4838:47.80
- 29:50Amanda Gargiulo
- 29:52and far
- 29:5438:55.10
- 29:56Amanda Gargiulo
- 29:58That's incredible.
- 30:0038:55.38
- 30:02Lauren Brown
- 30:04And i know I was like, I love this man. i want to be this man.
- 30:0639:01.01
- 30:08Amanda Gargiulo
- 30:10Yeah. Well, if you keep doing what you're doing, there's no reason why you can't be.
- 30:1239:03.92
- 30:14Lauren Brown
- 30:16And we don't need no freaking pills for it.
- 30:1839:05.78
- 30:20Amanda Gargiulo
- 30:22Exactly. Unstoppable. My girl. So ah thanks.
- 30:2439:08.88
- 30:26Lauren Brown
- 30:28Same for you
- 30:3039:11.28
- 30:32Amanda Gargiulo
- 30:34That was, that was really so much fun. I feel like we could keep going for like another two hours, but we have to be mindful of our listeners time. so
