Transcript
- Luke Pollock: Hello and welcome back to another episode of The Uplift. This is a solo podcast, which is gonna be a very, very short solo podcast because I am gonna lift to training in approximately 10 minutes. So with the champ, we have a lot more Friday night games and it means training often gets juggled around. So Wednesday is my obviously my podcast day. It's the time I've crafted out for it, but training tonight and this evening has been brought forward to Wednesday. due to a Friday game. So hence why we are recording a quick podcast before training. And I listen, I'm super grateful that I get to do this, get to sit in front of a mic and talk to anywhere from 10 to 100 people that listen to the podcast episode weekly. It it's cool. So I want to respect that, respect the commitment I made to myself that I would record. so I've uploaded a little QA earlier today and I'm going to try and answer those questions quickly and give them justice while doing it. So the first question I got answered asked today was, what should you do if you're trying to specialize in ACL rehab? Trying to specialize in ACL rehab is a really good question because I never intended to specialize in ACL rehab. I suppose it kind of chose me. Obviously I knew it would make sense from a business point of view to have clients bought in for a longer term period of time. And then I also knew that in my sport, people ruptured their ACL quite frequently. So roughly one a year from each team. So I knew there would be potential clients there from people who understood the the sport that I play and I vice versa. So for me it was kind of a natural thing rather than I I have a really, really big interest in the in the graft and I have an interest in the ACL ligament itself. Like that wasn't the case for me. And it wasn't because I've ruptured my ACL and I really wanted to help people on that journey. It was just I rehabbed an ACL. I felt like I did a better job than most physios would do than I d I felt like I did a better job than the NHS was doing and the private healthcare was doing. So I started advertising my services and then people really attached to to it. And so I would say for you, if it it's not so much like you need to read a certain paper or read certain research. It's more how you relate to the people that you want to help. And if you don't relate to the people you want to help, if you're not a sports person, And you don't really understand what they have to go back to. If you haven't had a personal experience that they can relate to, you're gonna struggle to specialize in ACL rehab a little bit more. I would say it's less about the facts, what the ligament does, how we can like it's less about the science and more about how you are as a person, how you can relate to these people. Because ACL rehab is a long journey. Obviously, you need to be good at what you do. That will get you in the door, but to keep you Keep a seat at the table, you need to be really good with interpersonal relations and take people on a journey. So try not to force it. Try not to force a square peg into a round hole. Try and try and just treat load to things and whatever you find you're naturally gravitating towards, and whatever you find you have a natural affiliation with and you're naturally getting really good results with, then maybe, maybe, maybe gear towards that side of things. I love ACL because it's very data driven as well and that really appealed to me, the sports science side of things. But I said, it kinda it kinda chose me more than I chose it. And I'm not saying forever I will be an ACL physio. That's definitely not the plan. But for now it it's really working and I'm appreciative of that. And I'm just gonna answer that one question today. But I think it's worth saying on that as well. I'll try not to let things just it's maybe sounding like, I've I've just stumbled my way in here and That isn't the case. Try not to think that things will just happen. Things will not just happen in life in general, in physio, in your career. If you're an athlete listen to this, things will not just happen. You actually have to go and make them happen. And I think I got confused when I was younger when people say you can do whatever you want. I used to hate that saying because I used to think, Well, you can't do whatever you want because I can't really be a professional footballer because I'm not talented enough. And I used to look at it like that. But now I understand the saying a lot more. If you really want something to happen, you can try and make that thing happen rather than waiting for it to happen. The people who wait for change without taking action often leave themselves wanting. And it's a good reminder for me as I'm going into this period, this last period of the year. And in many ways I'm proud of myself this year, but more recently I feel like I have slightly taken the foot off the gas. I'm making money each month that is allowing me to play rugby to a high level and I'm really enjoying that. But I do know there's another gear I can go into work wise. There's another level I can find where I'm enjoying my I'm working harder and I'm resting better as well. Rather than being in this limbo that I talked about last week of of kind of working all the time and not resting properly either. So I want to get into this last block up to up to Christmas, up to the new year, of really actually taking action on the business. How can I make it as good as possible? How can I make my content as good as possible? How can I be more diligent with that side of things? So maybe you're listening to this and this is your time now. This is the kick you needed. We have a few months till the end of the year and so much can happen in that time. Do not underestimate what can happen in that time. Someone sent me a message and said they're gonna start something in 2027. And I thought that's so gut and you've got all of November, all of December. That's eight weeks before 2027. we've got so much time. So let's make things happen. Let's not give up on the year. Let's not look to 2027 yet. There's still plenty of time left in this year. I wanna hit I wanna be playing my best rugby and I want to the want I want the business to have more direction, me going better as well. And I wanna make that happen myself. I don't want to just wait for that to happen and wait for things to happen and fall into my lap. So here's to taking action, aggressive action and here's to resting well as well in between those bites of action towards the end of the year. Let's let's lock in and go go hard for the next few months. And I will catch you next Wednesday on the next episode. Thanks so much for listening.
