- 1:19Speaker 4: would love to tell me all right, our diret says, Hello,
- 1:23Speaker 4: She's on the Money. I moved to Australia six years
- 1:25Speaker 4: ago as an international student, got my permanent residency after
- 1:29Speaker 4: two years, and I am now a citizen. I'm also
- 1:31Speaker 4: very busy, soon to be mother of my first child,
- 1:34Speaker 4: and I run two small businesses and drive for Uber.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I'm a hustler.
- 1:39Speaker 4: I've been a driver partner for three years, using it
- 1:41Speaker 4: when I want to save up for something. Uber has
- 1:43Speaker 4: really helped me on my journey to become a small
- 1:45Speaker 4: business owner, travel the world, put a deposit on my home,
- 1:48Speaker 4: and all before the age of thirty.
- 1:50Speaker 2: What I know.
- 1:51Speaker 4: I'd love to share my story of hard work and
- 1:53Speaker 4: side hustling with the community. Oh my gosh, I love
- 1:56Speaker 4: this Money diarists. Welcome to the show.
- 1:59Speaker 5: Hey, thank you so much for having me here. I'm
- 2:01Speaker 5: really excited.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I'm so excited to have a chat with you as well,
- 2:05Speaker 2: a mom to pay, a small business owner, an ERG
- 2:08Speaker 2: driver like what can't she do? I love this. Let's
- 2:12Speaker 2: start off in the way we always start the show,
- 2:15Speaker 2: and that is with our structured questions so that we
- 2:17Speaker 2: all get up to spaid on where you're at money, Ris.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Let's jump straight into the first one, and that question
- 2:22Speaker 2: is can you tell us a little bit about your
- 2:24Speaker 2: money story.
- 2:25Speaker 5: Sure, So I love money and I want to make
- 2:29Speaker 5: a lot of it, you and me, Bothy, Hey, everyone
- 2:32Speaker 5: loves money. Who doesn't write? And there's nothing called too
- 2:35Speaker 5: much money at all. So yeah, and money is something
- 2:38Speaker 5: that kind of makes me really happy. It gives me
- 2:41Speaker 5: a sense of security and just makes me feel happy
- 2:44Speaker 5: and gives me a stability in life. There's a saying
- 2:46Speaker 5: that a lot of people say that money doesn't give
- 2:49Speaker 5: it doesn't make you happy, or doesn't give you happiness,
- 2:51Speaker 5: which I strongly disagree, because money does make you happy,
- 2:55Speaker 5: gives you a stability and gives you, you know, an
- 2:59Speaker 5: opportunity to meet life that's less stressful. And especially with
- 3:03Speaker 5: our generation of the millennials, we face a lot of
- 3:06Speaker 5: mental health issues. And I don't say that money will
- 3:09Speaker 5: heal all your mental health issues, but yes, not having money,
- 3:12Speaker 5: not having enough savings does increase your stress and you know,
- 3:16Speaker 5: just make things in day to day life a little
- 3:18Speaker 5: bit more difficult totally. And I strongly believe in having
- 3:23Speaker 5: multiple streams of income so if something fails, I always
- 3:27Speaker 5: have you know, another business or another incoming cash flow
- 3:30Speaker 5: into my bank account that I can always fall back on.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I wish more people will like you.
- 3:36Speaker 2: They just go straight out now, I love money more
- 3:38Speaker 2: of it. That's very sick because people are always like, yeah,
- 3:41Speaker 2: I guess money is like important, but not that important,
- 3:44Speaker 2: and you're just straight out like, no, money is the
- 3:45Speaker 2: best I need, Moore? Have you always been like that?
- 3:49Speaker 2: Is money something that growing up your family spoke a
- 3:52Speaker 2: lot about or is it something that you've just discovered
- 3:55Speaker 2: that yourself.
- 3:56Speaker 5: I think I've always been like that since I was
- 3:58Speaker 5: a child, because of the kind of home that I
- 4:01Speaker 5: you know, I was brought up in. I was from
- 4:04Speaker 5: an upper middle class family, like my dad had a business,
- 4:07Speaker 5: a small business, and my mum was a homemaker. So
- 4:11Speaker 5: we always grew up with a mentality that there are
- 4:14Speaker 5: certain things that we don't do, you know what I mean.
- 4:17Speaker 5: Or that's for the rich people. You know, you don't
- 4:19Speaker 5: go on holidays degrees because that's not for us. You
- 4:22Speaker 5: probably go to a cheaper place or something that's less affordable.
- 4:26Speaker 5: And I always thought that thought didn't sit right with me,
- 4:29Speaker 5: and I thought why not? You know, we had given
- 4:32Speaker 5: one life, and I read somewhere that had really stuck
- 4:35Speaker 5: with me for a long time that if you are
- 4:36Speaker 5: born for it's not your fault. But if you die poor,
- 4:40Speaker 5: that's your fault. Because we've been given this life. You know,
- 4:43Speaker 5: there's so many opportunities to make money and to fulfill
- 4:47Speaker 5: the desires that you want to write. So I always
- 4:50Speaker 5: didn't like the idea of restricting myself to what I
- 4:54Speaker 5: can do and what I cannot. So that's why I
- 4:56Speaker 5: was like, I want to make a lot of money
- 4:58Speaker 5: and want to be able to do every thing that
- 5:00Speaker 5: I want to do in one life, So why should
- 5:01Speaker 5: I restrict myself to maybe just one job or you know,
- 5:04Speaker 5: one career.
- 5:05Speaker 2: So and you s's so motivated to do it as well,
- 5:08Speaker 2: Black I am loving this energy. So money dois tell
- 5:12Speaker 2: us what do you do for work? All of your
- 5:14Speaker 2: works and how much money do you earn?
- 5:18Speaker 5: Of course, So I run two small businesses. So one
- 5:21Speaker 5: is a marketing firm. It's more like a telemarketing so
- 5:23Speaker 5: I help small businesses grow their sales, so pretty much
- 5:28Speaker 5: like telecalling, cold calling, you know, introducing their businesses to
- 5:33Speaker 5: a lot of other customers and pretty much helping them
- 5:35Speaker 5: increase their sales monthly sales. That's one part of my business.
- 5:39Speaker 5: And this has come from my experience in sales. So
- 5:42Speaker 5: since the time I graduated, I've always been working in sales.
- 5:46Speaker 5: I've been in media sales, it sales. So yeah, it's
- 5:49Speaker 5: just the experience that I gathered there, so I thought
- 5:51Speaker 5: I should meet it to a US, yeah, and make
- 5:55Speaker 5: something of my own. So that's my marketing business. And
- 5:59Speaker 5: then I have an e commerce business which is completely
- 6:03Speaker 5: weekend products, cruelty free. So I have my own online setup.
- 6:08Speaker 5: So and I ship products throughout Australia. So I've got
- 6:12Speaker 5: like magnetic eyelashes, eyebrow stamps, like exfoliating gloves. It's a
- 6:18Speaker 5: dread and draw.
- 6:18Speaker 2: There's like a beauty a beauty company. Cool. They're so
- 6:23Speaker 2: different from one another, I know.
- 6:26Speaker 5: Yeah, there's two different things. And the best part about
- 6:28Speaker 5: this is I can manage both of this together because
- 6:31Speaker 5: my marketing job is like a typical you know, nine
- 6:35Speaker 5: to five job, where because I can't reach out to
- 6:37Speaker 5: more customers after five pm, which is course you know,
- 6:40Speaker 5: the working hours, and my e commerce business I work
- 6:43Speaker 5: in the evenings.
- 6:44Speaker 2: So they fit together really nicely. Where does Urber come
- 6:47Speaker 2: into that? Then my friend.
- 6:49Speaker 5: That's after that, so uber is Uber is for the
- 6:53Speaker 5: weekends and even evening after my work. When I finish
- 6:57Speaker 5: up my work, I when I have time, I feel
- 7:00Speaker 5: that I have nothing to do at home. I just
- 7:02Speaker 5: take my car and drive around the city and make
- 7:05Speaker 5: like really good money. So Uber's been a very important
- 7:09Speaker 5: part of my financial journey. And whenever I was struggling
- 7:14Speaker 5: with my finances or because my both my companies are
- 7:16Speaker 5: completely bootstrapped, so I didn't get take any investments from outside,
- 7:20Speaker 5: it was all you know, my own savings, and all
- 7:23Speaker 5: this money for my investment in my business for both
- 7:27Speaker 5: the businesses came out from Uber. Wow. Really Yeah, yes.
- 7:31Speaker 2: That's cool.
- 7:31Speaker 4: I know that obviously, being in a comm and marketing
- 7:34Speaker 4: and Uber and stuff, it's all quite variable. Can you
- 7:37Speaker 4: put like an approximate number on how much money I make?
- 7:41Speaker 5: Yeah, so I make somewhere around, say seven thousand to
- 7:46Speaker 5: ten to eleven thousand. It depends each month, but yeah,
- 7:50Speaker 5: it falls under this window.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Wow.
- 7:53Speaker 4: And you're working very hard for that money, clearly, But
- 7:56Speaker 4: that's awesome.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Yes, Oh my gosh, I'm making more than what I.
- 8:00Speaker 5: Used to make in my job. So I'm really that's away. Yeah,
- 8:04Speaker 5: and it's worth the hard work.
- 8:05Speaker 2: So absolutely, all right, Well, tell us I feel like
- 8:09Speaker 2: you are so motivated. I want to know what is
- 8:11Speaker 2: your big money goal.
- 8:13Speaker 5: So my big money goal is that I don't want
- 8:15Speaker 5: to be I don't want to live in a million
- 8:17Speaker 5: dollar house or anything like that. I want a life
- 8:20Speaker 5: where I should be able to travel wherever I want to.
- 8:23Speaker 5: And my business is not location specific and it allows
- 8:26Speaker 5: me to work from anywhere I can. So yeah, that's
- 8:29Speaker 5: pretty much my plan. And I want to sleep and
- 8:33Speaker 5: then make money, you know what I mean. I want
- 8:34Speaker 5: the money. I want my businesses to make money for me,
- 8:37Speaker 5: even when I don't have to work nine to five,
- 8:39Speaker 5: you know what I mean. So that's my whole idea.
- 8:42Speaker 5: So I want to hustle for the next few years,
- 8:45Speaker 5: maybe another three years or four years, and set up
- 8:47Speaker 5: my company, have a good team where I can just
- 8:50Speaker 5: back up, you know I can. I can just be
- 8:52Speaker 5: traveling around the world doing some meetings over the phone
- 8:55Speaker 5: or wherever I am, as long as there's a good
- 8:57Speaker 5: internet connection and my business is still making money for me.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I love this. You are literally living
- 9:02Speaker 2: our dream. Jess and I just got back recently from
- 9:05Speaker 2: a holiday that we went on together. Because we're obsessed
- 9:07Speaker 2: with besties and work pals, but we were sitting by
- 9:12Speaker 2: a pool, going this is the life. Like imagine if
- 9:15Speaker 2: we had a life where we could work from beside
- 9:18Speaker 2: the pool, And that is the dream you are creating
- 9:20Speaker 2: for yourself. So like that bestI I get it. I'm envious.
- 9:24Speaker 2: That is an epic money goal. Next question, working towards
- 9:28Speaker 2: that money goal, do you have any investments? If so,
- 9:31Speaker 2: what are they?
- 9:32Speaker 5: Of course, so I invest in our cryptom So I've
- 9:36Speaker 5: invested a good amount in some of the coins like bitcoins, ethereum,
- 9:42Speaker 5: and a lot of few others because I think crypto
- 9:45Speaker 5: is going to be the next big thing. Imagine if
- 9:48Speaker 5: I invested whatever amount like ten years before and now
- 9:53Speaker 5: we know the value of crypto like bitcoins like gone
- 9:56Speaker 5: up so crazy. So yeah, we have been millionnaires at
- 10:00Speaker 5: the right time.
- 10:01Speaker 4: So hindsight's always twenty twenty though. I look at the
- 10:04Speaker 4: share market all the time and think the exact same thing.
- 10:06Speaker 4: I look at property and think the same thing.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Like where I'm from, property is like so expensive nowadays,
- 10:13Speaker 2: But growing up I was like, oh I could afford
- 10:15Speaker 2: three hundred K for hours, Well that's reasonable. One day
- 10:19Speaker 2: like that's pretty big, And now I'm like, oh, one
- 10:21Speaker 2: point five million dollars. I think not, sir, we are
- 10:24Speaker 2: not going to be doing that in my hometown. So
- 10:27Speaker 2: I feel like when we look at investments, hindsight is
- 10:29Speaker 2: always twenty twenty. It doesn't matter what the asset class
- 10:32Speaker 2: is here in it long enough, there is always going
- 10:34Speaker 2: to be some kind of payoff, right.
- 10:36Speaker 5: Of course, of course, And I think any time to
- 10:38Speaker 5: get started is the right time. So it's never too
- 10:42Speaker 5: late to start investments, too.
- 10:44Speaker 2: True. I have a more perfect question. You said, obviously
- 10:47Speaker 2: you've got a pretty good salary and you're investing. How
- 10:50Speaker 2: much do you invest regularly?
- 10:52Speaker 5: So I wait for the right time to buy. For example,
- 10:55Speaker 5: now of the crypto is down, it's a bear market,
- 10:57Speaker 5: so you know the currencies have gone down, like the
- 11:00Speaker 5: cryptocurrencies has gone down, So I probably buy during this time.
- 11:04Speaker 5: So I would probably just have my savings and when
- 11:07Speaker 5: I see the coin has gone down and it's not
- 11:09Speaker 5: going to go down further. If I see the price
- 11:12Speaker 5: chart going up, that's when I just buy. I invest
- 11:16Speaker 5: in buld probably ten to twelve grand or whatever budget
- 11:20Speaker 5: you know I have for that period of time. Yeah.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Cool. I love asking that question because there are some
- 11:26Speaker 2: people like me who automates my investment and just happens
- 11:29Speaker 2: set amount every single month, like I don't even look
- 11:31Speaker 2: at it, It just happens. And then people like you
- 11:33Speaker 2: who are really onto the market and what's going on
- 11:35Speaker 2: and when to buy, and you kind of like stockpilot
- 11:37Speaker 2: and then buy and bulk. And it's just so interesting
- 11:40Speaker 2: learning how people manage their own investment journeys because it's
- 11:43Speaker 2: literally different for every single person. Next question, my friend,
- 11:47Speaker 2: do you have any debt? If so, what is it.
- 11:50Speaker 5: I do have a debt, and I think it's a
- 11:52Speaker 5: good debt. So I have a property that I live
- 11:54Speaker 5: in my first term.
- 11:55Speaker 2: That is not bad debt.
- 11:56Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it's a good debt, and I would love
- 11:59Speaker 5: to have more debts. Why not?
- 12:02Speaker 2: The kind of set the way like it shares on
- 12:04Speaker 2: the money is the kind that helps us create wealth,
- 12:07Speaker 2: which is what it looks like you are doing. Tell
- 12:09Speaker 2: us about that property, though, like what did you pay
- 12:11Speaker 2: for it? And how much is on your mortgage right now?
- 12:14Speaker 5: Sure? So I bought this. I think it's about a
- 12:17Speaker 5: year and a half now that I've been living here,
- 12:19Speaker 5: and I bought this for about five hundred K. It's
- 12:21Speaker 5: a small apartment to bedroom and I think it's efficient
- 12:24Speaker 5: for me. Perfect so now. So yeah, and I paid
- 12:29Speaker 5: a deposit on this for I paid twenty percent deposit,
- 12:32Speaker 5: oh like the full full twenty percent. Yeah, because I
- 12:35Speaker 5: didn't want to play. I didn't want to pay Elmai,
- 12:37Speaker 5: you know, the lender mortgage insurance. And I was like, oh,
- 12:40Speaker 5: that's such a waste of money. So it's better that
- 12:42Speaker 5: you know, I extend, I push myself save more money
- 12:46Speaker 5: and so that it can go towards my deposit.
- 12:49Speaker 2: I love that. What a queen get it.
- 12:52Speaker 5: And that's when Uber came into picture and helped me
- 12:54Speaker 5: a lot because I used to work when I was,
- 12:57Speaker 5: you know, wanting to you know, purchase my property because
- 13:01Speaker 5: I want I didn't want to quit my job before
- 13:03Speaker 5: purchasing a property, yeah, because that's when I'll get my
- 13:06Speaker 5: bank loans. So I was still doing my job and
- 13:09Speaker 5: in the evenings I used to drive Uber. And Uber
- 13:11Speaker 5: helped me a lot, you know with securing my deposit.
- 13:15Speaker 2: How cool. I love that, all right. Next question is
- 13:19Speaker 2: about shopping, my friend, Do you use shop Act?
- 13:22Speaker 5: Not really. I've heard about it, but I haven't used
- 13:25Speaker 5: it yet.
- 13:26Speaker 2: That is fair. I feel like it's a good time
- 13:28Speaker 2: to recommend that to you because I feel like you're
- 13:30Speaker 2: pretty money savvy, so that wouldn't be a bad idea
- 13:32Speaker 2: to check it out. Next question, what is your best
- 13:36Speaker 2: money habit?
- 13:37Speaker 5: I think my best money habit would be that I
- 13:40Speaker 5: don't I don't know if this is the right answer,
- 13:43Speaker 5: but I think I don't spend much on unwanted things,
- 13:46Speaker 5: Like I'm very clear about what I want to spend on,
- 13:50Speaker 5: which is my business, my travel, and my family. So
- 13:54Speaker 5: I don't believe in having expensive clothes. I don't go
- 13:58Speaker 5: behind brands or you know, I don't want to buy
- 14:01Speaker 5: expensive furniture or anything that has a value that will
- 14:05Speaker 5: depreciate over time. Instead, I love investing my money in
- 14:09Speaker 5: something that because money is what you know, helps you
- 14:13Speaker 5: make that money more like grow money pretty much. So
- 14:16Speaker 5: I think that's my good money habit. That I don't
- 14:19Speaker 5: spend much.
- 14:20Speaker 2: So that is the funny habit. I like that you said,
- 14:23Speaker 2: I don't know if this is the right response. There's
- 14:25Speaker 2: no such thing. There's no right or wrong when it
- 14:27Speaker 2: comes to money, and I feel like that's a good one.
- 14:29Speaker 2: I need to learn to be a little bit more
- 14:31Speaker 2: like you. Recently, I've been a bit naughty, so I
- 14:34Speaker 2: do need to rein it in. I've got some pretty
- 14:36Speaker 2: bad money habits. But speaking of pretty bad money habits,
- 14:39Speaker 2: what are yours? What is your worst money habit?
- 14:42Speaker 5: I think sometimes I'm really impulsive or when it comes
- 14:45Speaker 5: to traveling, and I end up spending too much. So
- 14:49Speaker 5: if I have to give you an example, because I'm
- 14:51Speaker 5: pregnant now and I won't be able to travel obviously
- 14:54Speaker 5: as much as I used to travel, you know before,
- 14:57Speaker 5: So I went for it to to Bali and straight
- 15:01Speaker 5: after that I went to Fiji, and then I went
- 15:03Speaker 5: to Auckland. I did all this last minute without any plans.
- 15:08Speaker 5: And that's how I am when it comes to traveling.
- 15:10Speaker 5: I don't know, my mind just paralyzes, and I don't
- 15:13Speaker 5: mind spending. I'm like, it's okay, I you know, I
- 15:15Speaker 5: don't spend much on any other things, and traveling is
- 15:18Speaker 5: something that I love and I and that I'm just
- 15:20Speaker 5: trying to console myself so that I don't feel much
- 15:23Speaker 5: guilty about spending. So yeah, I think that's one of
- 15:26Speaker 5: my bad habits, that I'm a very impulsive spender when
- 15:29Speaker 5: it comes to traveling.
- 15:31Speaker 2: I think I like that though, Like I know that
- 15:34Speaker 2: that sounds like you're like, oh my gosh, I wish
- 15:36Speaker 2: I was better at it, But it really sounds like
- 15:37Speaker 2: you're good at spending your money in line with your values.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Like you're not going, oh my gosh, like I've got
- 15:43Speaker 2: this value of traveling, but I impulsively go shopping every
- 15:46Speaker 2: single weekend, and like, it just sounds like your money
- 15:49Speaker 2: is being spent in line with your values. So yeah,
- 15:52Speaker 2: you probably could do a little bit more planning, but
- 15:54Speaker 2: I get it, and I really like it. It's so cool.
- 15:57Speaker 2: All right, last question before we go to our really
- 16:00Speaker 2: quick break. What grade would you give yourself if we
- 16:03Speaker 2: forced you to give yourself a money grade.
- 16:06Speaker 5: I think I'm pretty good with managing my money, like
- 16:08Speaker 5: I said, because I don't spend much and I just
- 16:10Speaker 5: spend where it's required. So I think probably I'll give
- 16:13Speaker 5: myself an eight. But there's always cope for improvement in everything.
- 16:16Speaker 2: So what do you think it would take to get
- 16:19Speaker 2: to a ten?
- 16:20Speaker 5: Stopping my impulsive spending? I think, and I think investing
- 16:25Speaker 5: more in better places probably would be the thing. Yeah,
- 16:29Speaker 5: very cool.
- 16:29Speaker 2: All right, We're going to go to a really quick break,
- 16:31Speaker 2: and on the other side, I want to know how
- 16:33Speaker 2: you manage all of this. I've got so many work
- 16:35Speaker 2: life balance questions. See you on the other side. All right,
- 16:43Speaker 2: we are back money Diarist. You are very impressive. You
- 16:46Speaker 2: have two small businesses, you have a baby on the way,
- 16:49Speaker 2: which is really exciting, and you still manage to have
- 16:52Speaker 2: another side hustle with uber. Can you tell us a
- 16:56Speaker 2: little bit about how you manage it all, because it
- 16:58Speaker 2: sounds like you don't have a free it to yourself
- 17:00Speaker 2: right now.
- 17:01Speaker 5: Actually not. I do manage to spend a lot of
- 17:03Speaker 5: time for myself and you know, doing things that I
- 17:06Speaker 5: really love. So to be honest, when I used to
- 17:08Speaker 5: do a job, my nine to five typical it job,
- 17:12Speaker 5: I think I was finding things to be really difficult.
- 17:14Speaker 5: I would probably get really tired after four hours of
- 17:17Speaker 5: work and I'd be like, oh, I can't wait to
- 17:19Speaker 5: go home and things like that. But now when I
- 17:21Speaker 5: know it's my own, like both my businesses are like
- 17:24Speaker 5: my babies.
- 17:24Speaker 2: I get that. I get that through and through.
- 17:27Speaker 5: So I never whinge about them. Like I'm really happy
- 17:29Speaker 5: with whatever I'm doing, so it doesn't give me stress
- 17:32Speaker 5: at all, and I'm enjoying doing that. And the best
- 17:35Speaker 5: part is my husband works from home as well. So
- 17:38Speaker 5: we both work from home, so it's nice. We have
- 17:41Speaker 5: lunches together, we could breakfast together. I do spend a
- 17:45Speaker 5: lot of quality time with him as well while I'm working.
- 17:48Speaker 5: So yeah, I really feel that it's too much. I'm
- 17:51Speaker 5: super comfortable doing the things that I'm doing right now.
- 17:54Speaker 2: I feel like that's a really special way to be
- 17:57Speaker 2: and something that I wasn't expecting you to say, Like
- 18:00Speaker 2: as a business owner, I feel like I and I
- 18:02Speaker 2: hate this word. I really don't like the word busy
- 18:05Speaker 2: because I feel like busy as a choice, Like you
- 18:07Speaker 2: can't just keep saying like, oh my god, I'm so busy,
- 18:09Speaker 2: like usually just fluffing around or procrastinating. Like Jesse's looking
- 18:12Speaker 2: at me like, yeah, that's all you do, Victoria. But
- 18:15Speaker 2: it's one of those things where I just don't feel
- 18:17Speaker 2: like I have any free time. How are you managing
- 18:20Speaker 2: to fit uber into all of this as well? Is
- 18:23Speaker 2: that something that you're like really regimented about and you're like, Okay,
- 18:26Speaker 2: from this time to this time every single week, I
- 18:27Speaker 2: do this or do you just go, oh, I'm pretty awake.
- 18:30Speaker 2: I probably could go do some driving right now, Like
- 18:32Speaker 2: how does that fit in? How does that work.
- 18:35Speaker 5: So I don't have a particular time message for Uber.
- 18:38Speaker 5: So I basically I think there's what Uber right, the
- 18:41Speaker 5: smart way of making money is and this is just
- 18:43Speaker 5: from my own experience. People might have different experiences on
- 18:46Speaker 5: this one, of course. So basically I go and work
- 18:50Speaker 5: the hours which are like super busy, for example, Friday
- 18:53Speaker 5: evenings if I have nothing to do, and I know
- 18:55Speaker 5: Friday evenings are like super busy in the city areas,
- 18:57Speaker 5: so that's when I will spend my time because I
- 19:00Speaker 5: don't want to be, you know, driving around and making
- 19:03Speaker 5: less amount of money. So whenever there is a surge,
- 19:06Speaker 5: because on the Uber app you can see wherever there's
- 19:08Speaker 5: a search and it tells you where the busy area is.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Oh I just thought that was like automatic and then
- 19:13Speaker 2: the drivers didn't know. So are you saying you make
- 19:16Speaker 2: more money if there is a surge directly money when
- 19:21Speaker 2: I thought it was either making more money not the drivers.
- 19:25Speaker 2: I love that. Yeah, yeah, that's awesome.
- 19:27Speaker 5: X two x three. So it tells you, like, depending
- 19:30Speaker 5: on how busy it is, you make more money. So
- 19:33Speaker 5: I drive around those areas so that I can you
- 19:36Speaker 5: make most of my time and I don't have to
- 19:37Speaker 5: drive many hours.
- 19:38Speaker 2: You know, working smarter, not harder. I like it.
- 19:41Speaker 4: I want to know actually, because now that I'm thinking
- 19:44Speaker 4: about it, I don't think I have ever had an
- 19:47Speaker 4: Uber driver who is a female.
- 19:48Speaker 2: And I have, I have, but it's really rare.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Yeah, what has your experience been like as a woman,
- 19:54Speaker 4: because I know, I think as a female generally we're
- 19:56Speaker 4: a little bit more pet conscious.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Yeah for sure.
- 20:00Speaker 4: You know you're like, we get taught as kids strange
- 20:02Speaker 4: danger and now you're like, I'm going to pick up
- 20:03Speaker 4: a random person in my.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Car after this chat though, Like I want to go
- 20:07Speaker 2: in your uber. I think we would have a really
- 20:09Speaker 2: fun time.
- 20:10Speaker 4: Yeah, you'd passed me the OX for sure, But like,
- 20:12Speaker 4: what has that been like for you as a woman, Like,
- 20:15Speaker 4: has it been a positive experience? I mean, you're doing
- 20:17Speaker 4: it now, so I'm going to assume so, but just
- 20:19Speaker 4: how have you found it all?
- 20:20Speaker 5: It's always been a positive experience for me, Like you
- 20:22Speaker 5: just said, whenever I have a customer on board, like
- 20:25Speaker 5: on a passenger, the first thing to tell me is that, oh,
- 20:28Speaker 5: you're the first female uber driver ever scene and I'm like, yeah,
- 20:32Speaker 5: I know, I get that a lot. Oh definitely, So
- 20:37Speaker 5: there's not a lot of female drivers, and I think
- 20:39Speaker 5: the passengers that I've had are really respectful and they
- 20:42Speaker 5: appreciate that I'm working for Uber and I'm brave and
- 20:45Speaker 5: all of that. So I've never had any bad customers
- 20:48Speaker 5: or any bad experience as such, and have even driven
- 20:52Speaker 5: on Friday nights picked up drunk people, but they were
- 20:55Speaker 5: always nice. I think I've just been lucky. And Uber also,
- 20:59Speaker 5: has this your feature coming up now, where you like,
- 21:02Speaker 5: a female driver would pick up a female passenger. Yes, yes, yes,
- 21:07Speaker 5: So the girls who want to drive Uber and are
- 21:09Speaker 5: just concerned about safety, you know, this one is like
- 21:12Speaker 5: the best thing for them.
- 21:13Speaker 4: Ah, that's really clever. Has anyone ever thrown up in
- 21:16Speaker 4: your car just out.
- 21:16Speaker 5: Of shea.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Yuck? What would happen?
- 21:23Speaker 4: Well, I mean I've never done it, but I've heard.
- 21:25Speaker 2: That you wor yess, I'm proud of you. Thank you.
- 21:30Speaker 4: I've heard that they pay like a fee or something
- 21:31Speaker 4: to cover the cost of cleaning.
- 21:33Speaker 5: I think they do, yes, because I had a friend
- 21:35Speaker 5: he had that experience.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Oh no, I think they do.
- 21:39Speaker 5: Girls in one of them pub in the car or
- 21:41Speaker 5: something very clean in charge that Uber pays you driver,
- 21:46Speaker 5: So that good good.
- 21:47Speaker 2: That would be the thing that would give me the
- 21:49Speaker 2: most anxiety, like especially as a passenger as well. And
- 21:52Speaker 2: you're the same as me. Like both Jess and I
- 21:55Speaker 2: pride ourselves on our Uber ratings. Jess is a five
- 21:59Speaker 2: star and I'm like a four point eight. And I'm
- 22:02Speaker 2: salty about being a four point eight because I'm like,
- 22:05Speaker 2: which one of you drivers rated me less than a five?
- 22:08Speaker 2: Because I am perfect in the car, I'm nice, I
- 22:11Speaker 2: get in, I always make sure I haven't left anything.
- 22:14Speaker 2: I'm respectful you gave me less than a five? Just
- 22:16Speaker 2: a good to each cheek.
- 22:17Speaker 4: I don't know, actually, while we're talking about that, I'm
- 22:19Speaker 4: just getting so sidetracked right now. I have always wondered,
- 22:23Speaker 4: as an Uber driver, what do you want from a passenger?
- 22:27Speaker 4: Because it's such an interesting transaction when you think about
- 22:30Speaker 4: I guess, like the rating system and stuff. And I
- 22:31Speaker 4: always get quite nervous when I get into an Uber
- 22:34Speaker 4: because sometimes I'm like, I'm just not in the mood
- 22:36Speaker 4: to talk, like I'm like.
- 22:38Speaker 2: I'm getting an Uber because I'm exhausted.
- 22:40Speaker 4: I had a long flight or I did something and
- 22:42Speaker 4: I don't want to talk. But I don't want to
- 22:44Speaker 4: make my driver uncomfortable or seem rude, and so sometimes
- 22:47Speaker 4: I'll be like, all right, buck up, make the conversation,
- 22:50Speaker 4: be nice, be for it, like do you guys care
- 22:53Speaker 4: or are you just like, as long as you're not mean,
- 22:55Speaker 4: it doesn't matter.
- 22:56Speaker 5: I think, as long as the pastoma is not mean,
- 22:58Speaker 5: it truly doesn't matter. It goes the other way around,
- 23:01Speaker 5: as well as when the driver's super exhausted. Yeah, and
- 23:04Speaker 5: you have a customer who's like super chatty and just
- 23:06Speaker 5: goes like NonStop, and sometimes you're like, okay, I mean
- 23:10Speaker 5: you have to be nice.
- 23:11Speaker 4: To course, comfortable silence. It's nice for everyone, I feel.
- 23:16Speaker 2: I think the thing I like because I learned a
- 23:18Speaker 2: little while ago that obviously the ratings are really important,
- 23:21Speaker 2: and you know, if you rate too little, like you
- 23:24Speaker 2: can't ride in Uber. Like I know someone who's literally
- 23:27Speaker 2: been kicked off the app. That's all on them, though,
- 23:30Speaker 2: But the vice versa happens, right like money dirist, you
- 23:34Speaker 2: have to be a good driver and respectful and kind
- 23:36Speaker 2: because if you don't get good ratings, like Uber might
- 23:39Speaker 2: be like, we don't want you as a driver.
- 23:40Speaker 5: Right, true, too, true, of course, and they take those
- 23:43Speaker 5: things really seriously, like if a customer you know, had
- 23:46Speaker 5: a negative experience and they go complain about you know,
- 23:49Speaker 5: you not being nice to them or whatever. They do
- 23:52Speaker 5: investigate and might you know, get your account be activated.
- 23:56Speaker 2: So which I really like, Like that makes me feel
- 23:59Speaker 2: like when I get in an I'm getting a consistent,
- 24:01Speaker 2: nice experience. I know that the person is safe and
- 24:04Speaker 2: kind and you know, has done all the things that
- 24:06Speaker 2: they are meant to do. As an Uber driver, because
- 24:08Speaker 2: Jess and I, oh yes, and I were recently overseas,
- 24:14Speaker 2: Like I'm going to keep dragging this out, guys. If
- 24:16Speaker 2: you thought that we weren't going to talk about the
- 24:18Speaker 2: fact that we went on holiday, like you were wrong,
- 24:21Speaker 2: We're gonna keep talking about it. But we were overseas
- 24:24Speaker 2: and we got in a taxi and I think we
- 24:26Speaker 2: regretted it the second we got in. Yeah, not because
- 24:29Speaker 2: he was mean, not because he was rude, but because
- 24:31Speaker 2: he was like, guys, I'm a singer and we were
- 24:34Speaker 2: like are you, and he's like, yeah, I'm a really
- 24:36Speaker 2: good singer. And he proceeded to serenade us for the
- 24:39Speaker 2: next hour with an entire soundtrack that he'd made to
- 24:44Speaker 2: play his passengers. So we got to listen to his
- 24:47Speaker 2: classic hits, and I'm telling you right now there is
- 24:50Speaker 2: a reason why that man had not made it yet.
- 24:53Speaker 2: But I feel like on Uber, if I'd had the
- 24:56Speaker 2: ability to rate it and stop someone else from going
- 24:58Speaker 2: through that experience, maybe that would have been a positive experience.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Yeah. I like the rating system makes me feel very
- 25:04Speaker 4: safe because I have actually canceled an Uba once before
- 25:08Speaker 4: because they had a rating that wasn't high enough and
- 25:11Speaker 4: it was late at night and I was already feeling
- 25:13Speaker 4: sketched out and I was just like, oh, I actually
- 25:15Speaker 4: don't want to risk that, and I just another one
- 25:17Speaker 4: came along, and I just I like the rating system.
- 25:20Speaker 4: It makes me feel quite comfy, but it did make
- 25:23Speaker 4: me nervous when I'm like, am I being a good passenger?
- 25:25Speaker 4: Because five stars is very important to me as a human.
- 25:29Speaker 2: You literally tell everybody that you've got five stars, like
- 25:32Speaker 2: whenever we're out and we're like, oh, do you want
- 25:33Speaker 2: to get an Uber, Like we'll go back to Victoria's
- 25:35Speaker 2: house or whatever, just as like, well, I've got five stars,
- 25:37Speaker 2: old book. Slowly accept me first, Like okay, Jessica, looping
- 25:42Speaker 2: this back around to your goals, right, you said that
- 25:45Speaker 2: you want to travel around the world and travel is
- 25:47Speaker 2: like your main priority? Can you drive ubers in other countries?
- 25:51Speaker 2: Like if you were to move or you were to
- 25:52Speaker 2: like go traveling for a while, Like, how does that work?
- 25:56Speaker 5: I think it's I think it's not possible because you
- 25:59Speaker 5: have to register your self again. You know, you need
- 26:01Speaker 5: to have a different driver's license in a different country,
- 26:05Speaker 5: and every country has a different, you know, requirement.
- 26:07Speaker 2: I believe.
- 26:08Speaker 5: I wish it was possible.
- 26:10Speaker 2: That would be really cool. I mean you don't need
- 26:12Speaker 2: it because you have two small businesses.
- 26:16Speaker 5: Yeah that's true, but I wouldn't mind doing it if
- 26:19Speaker 5: it's a busy hour, you know, make more cash.
- 26:22Speaker 2: All right, Well tell me though, you're pregnant right now?
- 26:25Speaker 2: How far along are you tell us about that.
- 26:27Speaker 5: I'm thirty five weeks now.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, so soon. Congratulations, thank you.
- 26:33Speaker 5: And it just went by so quick, like yeah, yeah,
- 26:37Speaker 5: just I've just got another four or five weeks to
- 26:39Speaker 5: go for my final day the day, my.
- 26:42Speaker 2: God, that's so exciting. How are you budgeting for baby?
- 26:47Speaker 5: I have enough savings which I've not touched at all
- 26:50Speaker 5: for the baby, and it's going to be untouched, you know,
- 26:54Speaker 5: till the baby grows up and everything.
- 26:56Speaker 2: So yeah, how cool. So are you going to be
- 27:00Speaker 2: able to drive, uber, or like, is that something that
- 27:02Speaker 2: you're like once I have this baby, like that's not
- 27:04Speaker 2: going to be possible, or like, what's the plan for
- 27:07Speaker 2: money making in the future, my friend.
- 27:09Speaker 5: I think I'll definitely do it, even after the baby.
- 27:11Speaker 5: I obviously will take a break for about a month
- 27:14Speaker 5: or two or whatever was required. I don't know. I'm
- 27:16Speaker 5: a first time mom, so I don't know how this
- 27:17Speaker 5: thing works. Yeah, but I think as soon as I'm
- 27:20Speaker 5: healthy and I can go back to driving, I think
- 27:23Speaker 5: I'll definitely do it. And it's not just the money
- 27:26Speaker 5: aspect for me or Uber. I think for me it's
- 27:29Speaker 5: like a really good stress buster because I love driving
- 27:32Speaker 5: and it's like my own space, you know what I mean.
- 27:34Speaker 5: So I'm away from home, I grab a nice coffee,
- 27:38Speaker 5: I drive around, meet some nice people. Sometimes sometimes the
- 27:41Speaker 5: customers are really nice, and you know, you have like
- 27:43Speaker 5: really deep and nice conversations with them, which sometimes you
- 27:47Speaker 5: really need in life, you know.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:49Speaker 5: So yeah, for me, it's like a stress buster and
- 27:52Speaker 5: it's like my time, and on top of it, you
- 27:53Speaker 5: make money as well, which is amazing. So I probably
- 27:56Speaker 5: will still keep doing that on and off.
- 27:58Speaker 4: What about your other businesses? When you're a small business owner,
- 28:02Speaker 4: a lot of the time you're wearing all of the hats.
- 28:05Speaker 4: Do you have any employees in your business currently or
- 28:08Speaker 4: will your partner or do you have someone who will
- 28:11Speaker 4: step in for you while you are out? And you
- 28:13Speaker 4: know learning the ropes is in Newma.
- 28:15Speaker 5: Of course, the e commas I can still manage because
- 28:18Speaker 5: my stock is at my home. Like I've converted one
- 28:21Speaker 5: of the rooms into my office and that's where I
- 28:23Speaker 5: store all my stock as well, So e commas I
- 28:25Speaker 5: can still do it from home, so it's not an issue.
- 28:28Speaker 5: But for a marketing business, I have a small team
- 28:30Speaker 5: of two people who I employ on a casual basis.
- 28:34Speaker 5: So when I'm away for you know, my baby and
- 28:37Speaker 5: my maternity le or whatever, I probably won't go to
- 28:40Speaker 5: maternity ly we'll still be working, but we'll see. But
- 28:42Speaker 5: I do have support who can help me with my
- 28:45Speaker 5: marketing business.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Oh I love that. I just remember, Jess. One of
- 28:49Speaker 2: my favorite things about getting in ubers is you always
- 28:51Speaker 2: ask like or I don't know, maybe it's just me,
- 28:55Speaker 2: but I always like ask the uber driver. I'm like,
- 28:56Speaker 2: what do you do when you're not driving ubers because
- 28:59Speaker 2: they always have such good stories. Like imagine getting in
- 29:02Speaker 2: an Uba with today's Money diarist to being like what
- 29:04Speaker 2: are you doing? She's like, oh, well, I have these
- 29:06Speaker 2: two business I'd be like, what are you doing? Like
- 29:09Speaker 2: you're a wizard. And the amount of people I've gotten
- 29:11Speaker 2: in Anuba with that have this like they're like, oh yeah,
- 29:14Speaker 2: I have a band, I do this or I do that,
- 29:15Speaker 2: And You're just like, how cool are the people that
- 29:18Speaker 2: you just get to meet when you jump in an uber?
- 29:20Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 29:21Speaker 2: It's super interesting. All right, money Doris, I'm so sorry,
- 29:24Speaker 2: but I think that is all we have time for today.
- 29:26Speaker 2: So Jess, I think you need to wrap the boring
- 29:28Speaker 2: but important stuff and let our money Doris get back
- 29:30Speaker 2: to work.
- 29:31Speaker 4: Alrighty, don't forget, guys that the advice shared on She's

- 29:56Speaker 2: Two three See you on Wednesday. Guys. Bye.
- 30:01Speaker 3: They were beat the diet.
- 30:04Speaker 2: They were
