- 0:16These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:19world famous Harley Street. This podcast features powerful
- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:41Hi Adam here and you're about to listen to an anxiety themed
- 0:46hypnosis session that was created for a client that didn't
- 0:50used to have anxiety and panic attacks but then had a panic
- 0:54attack while they were in hospital and then from that
- 0:58point. On.
- 0:58Had a series of anxiety that followed and it created this.
- 1:04Fear of fear. Itself because the panic.
- 1:08And the anxiety? Was unexpected.
- 1:11So from their perspective, they were trying to mitigate risk by
- 1:15thinking about the kind of places that it would be worse or
- 1:20least advantageous to feel anxious.
- 1:23And this is the kind of situations where they couldn't
- 1:26mitigate the anxiety, like being on a plane or being on a car
- 1:30over a. Bridge where they couldn't.
- 1:32Pull over or being in a confined space and what was clear is that
- 1:37it was the evaluations that that would be the worst possible
- 1:41place to have a panic attack. That was.
- 1:43Increasing their anxiety and therefore that's the paradox of
- 1:47anxiety is that thinking about anxiety can create more anxiety
- 1:51and then lead to the very thing that you're trying to mitigate
- 1:55and avoid so in this hypnosis session it uses metaphor it uses
- 1:59timeline techniques because the point of inception was that
- 2:03early panic attack where they. Started to.
- 2:07Try and mitigate the risk. And.
- 2:09Think about these situations where they didn't want to be in,
- 2:12but rather than thinking that they can experience anxiety and
- 2:17manage the anxiety, they were thinking that they couldn't.
- 2:20Manage the anxiety. And that panic was the
- 2:22representation of them not managing.
- 2:25So I used the metaphor here of a lemon tree because most people
- 2:28get the idea that a tree can only produce the fruit of the
- 2:31species of that tree. But if we go back in time and
- 2:35plant a different tree, then that new tree can produce
- 2:38different fruit. And obviously the fruit is a
- 2:40metaphor for the thoughts, and the tree is a metaphor for the
- 2:44belief that underpins the thoughts that come from that
- 2:49this was created. For someone with.
- 2:51Specifically panic attacks and the fear of panic itself.
- 2:54But I think this hypnosis session will benefit anyone that
- 2:58is anxious about certain situations or has certain
- 3:03beliefs that they. Can't cope.
- 3:05Because the overriding new belief here is that they can
- 3:08experience anxiety and manage it, that they can cope.
- 3:12And by having that belief. Then it doesn't give them.
- 3:16The necessity to think about where anxiety might come up
- 3:21because the overriding belief is that even if it does come up,
- 3:24they can handle it and that creates an entirely different
- 3:28self fulfilling prophecy. If you experience anxiety, this
- 3:32session may help, but it was created for an individual, so if
- 3:36you like the idea of exploring whether hypnotherapy can work
- 3:39for you, there's a couple of things that might be helpful. 1
- 3:42is that I have a suitability test so you can gauge very
- 3:46quickly if hypnotherapy would be relevant for you.
- 3:49There will be a link in the description but I also have a 7
- 3:53day free course which has 21 different hypnosis sessions over
- 3:59A7 day period and you can access that course completely free.
- 4:03So if you like my hypnosis then that course is completely free.
- 4:06Just look for the link in the description.
- 4:10And in terms of this hypnosis session, find a quiet
- 4:12comfortable place where you won't be disturbed.
- 4:15Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep.
- 4:59Breath in. That's it.
- 5:06As you breathe in, breathe in a resourceful feeling of calm and
- 5:11relaxation. And as you exhale, just allow
- 5:18any feelings of stress, tension, and worry to feel like it's
- 5:23leaving your body in your outward breath as you imagine
- 5:29how good it would feel to breathe in resourceful
- 5:33relaxation. And to exhale any worries, any
- 5:43evaluations, any anxiety, just feel it leave your body in your
- 5:51outward breath. And as you breathe in and
- 5:56breathe out, I want you to get a sense that you're drifting
- 6:04deeper and deeper, relaxed. And I want you to use the power
- 6:14of your imagination to imagine what would happen 10 years ago
- 6:25you planted a lemon tree. I want you to think is that tree
- 6:34had those roots get deeper and deeper, and as the years passed,
- 6:41the tree got larger. Doesn't it stand to reason that
- 6:48a lemon tree can only give you lemons?
- 6:55And you might want the lemon tree to give you an orange or a
- 6:58mango, but it's a lemon tree. It's only going to give you a
- 7:08lemon. And I want you to stare at this
- 7:11tree, and I want you to get a sense that the lemons on the
- 7:18tree are thoughts and the tree itself.
- 7:25Is a belief. And that something happened in
- 7:29your past to plant this tree. But what if we can go back in
- 7:37time to when that tree was planted and plant a different
- 7:45tree? If we could go back in time and
- 7:50plant a different tree, the tree wouldn't be giving you lemons,
- 7:56it would give you something else.
- 8:00And I want you to think how good it would feel if all of these
- 8:06feelings of anxiety that seemed to come out of nowhere were
- 8:13replaced with more empowering, optimistic, confident thoughts.
- 8:24And as you stare into the lemon tree, I want you to think back
- 8:30to a moment. A moment where you were in a
- 8:35hospital, perhaps on a bed. And I want you to be the
- 8:42observer and witness you having that panic attack.
- 8:48But imagine that there is thick bulletproof glass between you as
- 8:55the observer and that version of you experiencing this.
- 9:03And I want you to see a survivor.
- 9:09I want you to see someone so resourceful they could manage
- 9:17something under difficult circumstances.
- 9:25Not much sleep, experiencing pain.
- 9:30I want you to see a version of you that coped incredibly well
- 9:37given the circumstances. I want you to be proud of that
- 9:42version of you. That wave of anxiety felt
- 9:51overwhelming, and yet you found a way to manage.
- 9:58You found a way. To cope.
- 10:02You found a way to survive, and I want you to make the
- 10:09evaluation. When something unwanted,
- 10:17undesirable, overwhelming happened, you coped.
- 10:25Maybe not in the way that you wanted, but you coped.
- 10:31You handled it, you got through it, and I want you to get a
- 10:38sense that you're already starting to plant a new tree.
- 10:47But you can't plant a tree in the same space that another tree
- 10:55exists. So I want you to imagine going
- 11:00back in time, seeing that tiny sapling of a lemon tree and
- 11:09pulling it out by the roots. And then in that same hole where
- 11:16the tree used to be, I want you to plant a different tree.
- 11:24A tree of resourcefulness. The kind of tree that would give
- 11:31you thoughts again and again all by itself.
- 11:37That you can handle it, you can manage, you can cope, everything
- 11:42will be fine. And maybe you think of it as a
- 11:49specific fruit tree, or maybe it's a magical tree in your
- 11:57imagination. A tree of resourcefulness, a
- 12:03tree of empowerment, or a different tree.
- 12:08But I want you to imagine planting that tree.
- 12:14That lemon tree of anxiety is now replaced with a different
- 12:18tree of resourcefulness, of empowerment.
- 12:26And when the new tree, a tiny sapling, is planted, let me know
- 12:30by nodding your head. I want you to see that version
- 12:40of you having that very first panic attack.
- 12:45You're now looking at it with a new lens that even though
- 12:51something so unpleasant, so overwhelming was happening, you
- 12:59managed. You did the best you could with
- 13:04the resources you had. You managed.
- 13:12I want you to be proud of that version of you that did so well,
- 13:18but something so unexpected. And then go forwards in time,
- 13:25realizing that back then that would have felt like an
- 13:32earthquake, an emotional earthquake.
- 13:38And as is the case with earthquakes, sometimes what
- 13:43follows are tremors, something similar to the earthquake, but
- 13:52at a different time. And I want you to imagine seeing
- 13:58yourself in a nail salon. I want you to see that version
- 14:05of you experiencing one of those tremors.
- 14:12But because a new tree has been planted, I want you to see a
- 14:17subtle shift in that version of you.
- 14:23I want you to see that version of you looking resourceful,
- 14:37managing that tremor. I want you to see yourself
- 14:44coping well, that even though there's an aftershock, you're
- 14:52handling it. And if you can see yourself
- 14:58handling it well, let me know by nodding your head and then jump
- 15:05forwards in time, seeing yourself in your own home.
- 15:11Maybe days or weeks after that emotional earthquake with yet
- 15:18another tremor, another aftershock.
- 15:24But the new tree is now planted. That you will cope, that you can
- 15:31manage, that everything will be OK.
- 15:37So as you observe yourself in your own home having that tremor
- 15:44of anxiety, I want you to see the facial expressions of
- 15:51someone managing that tremor, riding that wave, perceiving it
- 15:59to be manageable, temporary, no big deal.
- 16:12And if you can start to see yourself handling that anxiety
- 16:17in a more empowered way, not desirable, not pleasant, but
- 16:25manageable, let me know by nodding your head and then jump
- 16:32forwards in time and see you perhaps in a clinic, a doctor's
- 16:37surgery, or a hospital giving blood.
- 16:46But this version of you isn't making evaluations about being
- 16:49stuck or trapped. This version of you feels that
- 16:57you can handle anything life throws your way, That even
- 17:03though there may be a needle or a tube taking blood, you can
- 17:11handle anything. That even if there was anxiety,
- 17:17you'll manage it. So see that confident,
- 17:22empowered, resourceful version of you handling that anxiety in
- 17:30a more resourceful, empowered way.
- 17:36And notice when you meet the anxiety with a feeling of
- 17:41resourcefulness, the anxiety becomes weaker and shorter and
- 17:51even more manageable. And then just imagine, because
- 17:58the new tree was planted. I want you to imagine for the
- 18:03years that follow, you felt resourceful in situations that
- 18:12you had limited options. See yourself flying and see
- 18:17yourself looking confident and calm and comfortable on those
- 18:23flights, and see yourself driving over bridges looking
- 18:30relaxed and comfortable in your car without even the thought of
- 18:37anxiety because you can handle it.
- 18:44See yourself in situations that in the past you felt anxious,
- 18:49but see yourself now looking comfortable, calm and relaxed
- 18:57all the way up to the present and then into your future.
- 19:03And I want you to imagine seeing yourself doing something in the
- 19:06next few days and weeks that is exactly what you would be doing
- 19:15if that new tree had replaced the old lemon tree of anxiety.
- 19:24Those old intrusive thoughts of what if I panic, what if I can't
- 19:32get out, escape, have all been replaced with new thoughts.
- 19:40I'll be fine. I'll cope, I'll manage.
- 19:47Even if there's anxiety, I'll ride that wave.
- 19:52I'll handle it. And each and every time you ride
- 19:57that wave of anxiety, the waves get smaller and less frequent.
- 20:04And if you can start to see a future where those old thoughts
- 20:10have been replaced with new thoughts, that anxiety is now a
- 20:15wave of opportunity to surf. Rather than something to avoid,
- 20:21let me know by nodding your head.
- 20:24That's it. And then imagine being in that
- 20:29garden, seeing the new tree is many years old now, and there
- 20:37are no lemons on this tree because it's a different tree at
- 20:45a different point of inception. This tree gives you fruits of
- 20:54empowered thoughts, evaluations that you can rather than you
- 20:59can't, that you'll manage rather than you won't.
- 21:07And I want you to imagine picking one of the fruits of
- 21:10this new tree and feeling that as you eat that fruit, you are
- 21:17feeling resourceful, confident, comfortable, and full of
- 21:26empowered resourcefulness, creating wonderful self
- 21:32fulfilling prophecies that you can handle it because you can,
- 21:39because you did, you will and you can.
- 21:46It was time to leave this place, but you leave this place with a
- 21:49new belief. But it doesn't matter where you
- 21:56are, you can handle it. And every now and then, even if
- 22:07an echo of the old belief system comes up, that is just an
- 22:12opportunity to disprove it. Ideas that you can't cope can be
- 22:21disproved by coping. Ideas that you won't be able to
- 22:26manage can be disproved by managing.
- 22:30And each time you reinforce the new belief system that you'll be
- 22:36fine, which creates the self fulfilling prophecy that you
- 22:42will. It's time to leave this place.
- 22:48So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 22:53nose. Just wiggle your fingers and
- 22:55wiggle your toes. Connect and calibrate into the
- 22:59here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken
- 23:05you. Starting to count on 2/3 waking
- 23:09up 456 more alert 7-8 open your eyes.
- 23:13Open your eyes. 910 Wide awake, wide awake, wide awake.
