- 0:00Today's episode is sponsored by Camp for Adults. Remember summer camp?
- 0:04You'd wake up early, spend all day with a bunch of people who basically become
- 0:08your family, sleep somewhere that wasn't your house, eat questionable food,
- 0:12and have absolutely no idea what the schedule was the next day.
- 0:15Well, good news. You can get paid to do it. Welcome to Camp for Adults,
- 0:20where your bunkmates are your co-workers, your counselor is your boss,
- 0:23and your arts and crafts project is a Google spreadsheet.
- 0:26And instead of singing songs around a campfire, you spend four hours running
- 0:29around trying to film a scene.
- 0:31At Camp for Adults, you'll make lifelong friendships, get very little sleep,
- 0:35carry three bags everywhere you go, and occasionally have a complete breakdown
- 0:38in some random city. Camp for Adults.
- 0:41Apparently, sometimes that's just called having a job.
- 0:45Disclaimer, it's actually really hard and most people wouldn't call it fun.
- 0:49They're very, very smart, but they're high IQ stupid people.
- 0:53Louisiana Senator John Kennedy on people who work on AI.
- 0:56Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Starcast. I give you the news and maybe you'll laugh.
- 1:01I'm Lindsay Vernick, and today it's Monday, September 7th, 2026.
- 1:07I'm back officially. The summer residency is officially over.
- 1:12I'm currently flying somewhere in the country home right now,
- 1:16but I am officially done my show.
- 1:18So I'm back. The Daily Starcast is officially done with the summer residency,
- 1:24and I am officially hosting full-time again until...
- 1:28Until hopefully forever. So in real news, also, I just wanted to give a shout
- 1:35out. Sorry, I'm like recording this in like the Hawaii airport. So it's a little weird.
- 1:40So sorry if the audio sounds really bad, but I wanted to get a pod out for tomorrow
- 1:44and I had to check out of my hotel this morning.
- 1:47But yeah, I just want to give a really big shout out. Thank you so much to everyone
- 1:52who did this in my residency. It was amazing.
- 1:55I got really great feedback from it. and hopefully I'll be able to do that again soon.
- 2:01So in real news, all right, we're going to start off with a serious one today
- 2:04because I feel like I kind of want to talk about this because this is like a major thing.
- 2:08As you know, there was this Amazon cargo plane and crashed at Miami airport yesterday.
- 2:13And as of right now, it killed at least five people and injured at least five others.
- 2:19So it was this Amazon Prime plane and it was a Boeing 767.
- 2:23It came from Puerto Rico and it landed in Miami around 2 p.m.
- 2:27When it overran one of the airport's runways. So it just landed and then just
- 2:31kept going and then crossed over a street and then hit a lot of cars before
- 2:36coming to a stop in a field where the plane caught on fire.
- 2:41Again, sorry, I'm in an airport. So five people were killed and five other people were injured.
- 2:46This is a little bit of ironic reporting on this like this, right?
- 2:50So three of the people who were hurt were taken to a trauma center in critical
- 2:54condition, and two other people were hospitalized with less serious injuries.
- 2:59Initially, they said it was too early to determine whether the people who died
- 3:03were on the plane or on the cars were hit.
- 3:05So obviously, the rescue operation was massive. More than 250 people came out to help.
- 3:12People were trapped in cars. They were looking for the pilots in the cockpit.
- 3:16And there was obviously this huge fire in the plane in the engine area,
- 3:20so they were trying to take care of that and then also on top of that there
- 3:25was an active fuel leak so it was obviously a really major scene.
- 3:31And, of course, on top of that, Miami Airport just came to a stop,
- 3:36and all flights couldn't go out for about three hours.
- 3:39So almost 200 flights were canceled, and almost 300 were delayed.
- 3:45And now they're trying to figure out why this plane couldn't stop.
- 3:48Because the plane was 32 years old and originally flew as a passenger plane.
- 3:52And then it became a cargo plane in 2015.
- 3:55Also, there were thunderstorms and wind of about 30 miles per hour.
- 3:59But, like, that never, you know, stopped a crash. Like, I mean,
- 4:02that never caused a crash like this before.
- 4:05So there's a lot of investigations going on. But right now there's no confirmed cause.
- 4:10And Amazon is being cooperative with the investigation.
- 4:14So obviously this is very devastating and there's a lot of families that are
- 4:19dealing with this today that nobody should ever have to deal with so i'm gonna
- 4:23leave the rest of my airport jokes for another story,
- 4:27sabrina carpenter has officially won her first emmy and it's kind of crazy how
- 4:32she did it she won outstanding guest actress in a comedy series for her appearance
- 4:36on the muppet show yeah like the muppet show i love that for her,
- 4:41and this is putting her on the road towards an EGOT because she already did
- 4:44a Grammy and now she has an Emmy.
- 4:46So now she just like made pop music and won a Grammy and befriended Kermit and got an Emmy.
- 4:53So now is she going to go after a Tony or an Oscar?
- 4:57But congrats to Sabrina, who has officially accomplished something that I never
- 5:02knew was on anyone's bucket list, getting an Emmy for acting with a frog.
- 5:08And finally, the tennis world is mourning a very specific death the one-handed backhand is dying,
- 5:14so the other day ben shelton beat stefanos tisipasios at the u.s open and that
- 5:20ended a 149 year streak of at least one player with a one-handed backhand reaching the men's singles,
- 5:28semi-finals at a grand slam,
- 5:31149 years that's like older than sliced bread and that's older than the light
- 5:35bulb and now it's gone Tispasias, who plays with a one-handed backhand,
- 5:41by the way, I'm definitely pronouncing his name wrong.
- 5:44So he plays with his one-handed backhand, and he gave a eulogy for the shot after he lost.
- 5:49He said that in the 1950s, 97 or 98% of players used a one-handed backhand,
- 5:55and now it's down to like 2 or 3% of players use it.
- 5:58He also complained that tennis has become too uniform and said that there used
- 6:02to be all these different styles of play, and not everyone is basically just playing the same way.
- 6:07Like imagine spending your entire career perfecting a beautiful elegant technically
- 6:11difficult tennis shot only for the entire sports would be like yeah we're just
- 6:16going to use two hands for that one now so that's,
- 6:19it for the one-handed backhand another casualty of modern life right up there
- 6:23with landlines skinny jeans and being able to call someone without texting first,
- 6:27in lindsey life so the summer residency is officially over and i've spent the
- 6:32last three weeks month essentially living out of a suitcase,
- 6:36and when I say living out of a suitcase I don't mean I packed efficiently like
- 6:39I wish it was just one suitcase I mean I literally had at least three to four
- 6:43bags on me at all times I had my suitcase like my big suitcase a backpack
- 6:49a purse my fanny pack and then also like this little side bag whenever my suitcase was too heavy,
- 6:56that I had to like put stuff in.
- 6:59I don't know how I kept track of everything. And I'm honestly getting nervous
- 7:02that I, I mean, I definitely lost some stuff.
- 7:05So this brings me to one of my very favorite stories from the show.
- 7:11And I will be telling them now for a while.
- 7:14So at one time I'm standing in the TSA line with cast and I need my ID.
- 7:21So obviously I start looking through my purse and everyone calls it like a mom's
- 7:25purse because I have like a gazillion things in there and never can find anything.
- 7:29So when I start looking for my purse, I mean i'm digging like i'm literally
- 7:33pulling everything out I'm, like getting I literally just cannot find it and
- 7:37i'm pulling out the most random things like a thing of honey I offer the cast like a tampon.
- 7:42Meanwhile, they take a bunch of like five boys So then they start like helping
- 7:46me so then they I start like handing them like random things From my purse to
- 7:51hold and so they're all like standing there holding.
- 7:56I'm literally standing at airport security with all of my belongings distributed
- 8:00among reality TV contestants. Like, someone has my lip gloss,
- 8:03someone has my wallet, someone has my toothbrush.
- 8:07Like, I don't even know what's going on.
- 8:09And I'm just still trying to find my ID.
- 8:12It's kind of, like, the perfect metaphor for this entire past month.
- 8:16Like, it was a full month of hotels, airports, charter flights,
- 8:19regular flights, rental cars, schedules, and always wondering what city are we in again.
- 8:25I'm officially ready to be stationary. I'm ready to sleep in my own bed unpack
- 8:29my suitcase not have to live out of the suitcase and spend at least one week
- 8:34knowing where exactly where everything is wherever I last put it I mean.
- 8:39So this week is the other week this week is unpacking.
- 8:44So when I say unpacking I mean that both physically and emotionally.
- 8:48Physically I have an entire suitcase and then some that needs to be unpacked.
- 8:52And I'm literally dreading it. Like opening that suitcase is kind of like opening
- 8:58a time capsule from the last month.
- 9:00Like when I open it, it's going to look like a bomb went off.
- 9:04And there's a very good chance that there's a wet bathing suit somewhere in
- 9:07there that's been marinating for some time.
- 9:10But then there's the emotional unpacking. Because when you spend a month constantly
- 9:14moving, working, traveling, sleeping in different places, never really knowing
- 9:17what day it is. You don't really have time to process anything.
- 9:20Like I was literally in seven cities in three weeks.
- 9:23Some days I was in like three cities in two days. Like it was crazy.
- 9:28So I was always just constantly onto the next thing, the next city,
- 9:31the next flight, the next hotel, the next call time, the next problem.
- 9:35And now that I'm finally home, I have a lot to unpack, literally.
- 9:41And maybe just figuring out what just happened. So this week I'm unpacking,
- 9:46and probably very slowly. I can handle the emotional unpacking.
- 9:49It's the suitcase I'm really avoiding.
- 9:52Cooking tip of the day. The most cooking I've done is put raw steak on a hot rock at the Ritz.
- 9:58Feedback, comments, questions, and as Jewish by looking for a date,

- 10:03Thanks so much for listening. Happy Labor Day, and I'll talk to you guys tomorrow.
