- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello.
- 0:01Speaker 2: My name is Santasha Nabananga Bamblet. I'm a proud Order
- 0:05Speaker 2: Order Kerney Whoalbury and a waddery woman. And before we
- 0:08Speaker 2: get started on She's on the Money podcast, I would
- 0:11Speaker 2: like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land of
- 0:14Speaker 2: which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country, acknowledging
- 0:18Speaker 2: the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming through
- 0:23Speaker 2: as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing and
- 0:27Speaker 2: the storytelling of you to make a difference for today
- 0:31Speaker 2: and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 4: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money podcast that
- 1:00Speaker 3: makes personal finance fun, especially on Fridays. It is our
- 1:04Speaker 3: favorite day of the week because we get to get
- 1:07Speaker 3: our team together and celebrate you our incredible She's on
- 1:09Speaker 3: the Money community today, MSUs Gorici is going to be
- 1:13Speaker 3: sharing her favorite money wins from the group. Beck is
- 1:15Speaker 3: going to be sharing her breake tips, and we're going
- 1:17Speaker 3: to be helping to answer our money dilemma, which this
- 1:19Speaker 3: week is all about if paying off debts should come first.
- 1:22Speaker 3: When you score a sweet bonus and something that you
- 1:25Speaker 3: slid into our dams about this week, we're talking whether
- 1:28Speaker 3: chasing up friends for a few dollars makes you petty
- 1:31Speaker 3: or practical, which I feel like is going to get
- 1:34Speaker 3: some divisive conversations going around the table. But before we
- 1:38Speaker 3: get there, I usually ask you how your weeks were.
- 1:41Speaker 3: But we've been chatting offline, and while we shouldn't read
- 1:45Speaker 3: our own reviews, we do. We do. We do, and
- 1:49Speaker 3: there have been some really beautiful ones. So each person
- 1:52Speaker 3: in the team has picked out their favorite five star
- 1:55Speaker 3: review and we're going to read it and share it
- 1:57Speaker 3: with each other because I feel like that's just spreading
- 1:59Speaker 3: good positivity and I just like the vibes. So Beck,
- 2:03Speaker 3: what are you bringing to the table.
- 2:04Speaker 1: This Obviously there were so many good ones and some that,
- 2:07Speaker 1: like you know, mentioned all this individually, and so I
- 2:10Speaker 1: just want as long as it something nice. I get
- 2:15Speaker 1: so anxious and then I'm like, i'll read it. I'll
- 2:17Speaker 1: be like, Okay, that's actually really nice that. So I
- 2:20Speaker 1: want those people to know that I really appreciate those.
- 2:22Speaker 1: But I did want to be selfish, So I'm going
- 2:23Speaker 1: to read one that's just a general one. This one's
- 2:26Speaker 1: from Paula. It says, such a beautifully thought out and
- 2:29Speaker 1: put together podcast, full of relatable, approachable content that is
- 2:32Speaker 1: highly valuable and smart. So nice.
- 2:39Speaker 3: I love it. Jess, what have you got?
- 2:40Speaker 5: Mind's a little bit longer?
- 2:41Speaker 3: It's from and it said, I've got a long one too. Perfect.
- 2:45Speaker 5: I've been a long time listener, but with periods of stopping,
- 2:47Speaker 5: and have absolutely loved the last year and the structure
- 2:50Speaker 5: of each week's podcasts. I'm now going back and listening
- 2:54Speaker 5: to those episodes I've missed. Victoria, Jess and Beck are
- 2:56Speaker 5: a great group of girls to listen to, and they
- 2:58Speaker 5: always have me laughing, very engaging, and the content is
- 3:01Speaker 5: always helpful or interesting. I'm so grateful that Victoria has
- 3:04Speaker 5: kept this podcast going. I wouldn't be in the position
- 3:06Speaker 5: I am today if it wasn't for the pod, especially
- 3:09Speaker 5: being brought up with no financial literacy.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Isn't that so sweet?
- 3:12Speaker 1: That's really what we do?
- 3:14Speaker 3: Yeah, ah, alright, this is so sweet. I like this
- 3:17Speaker 3: because I feel like we're setting ourselves up with like
- 3:19Speaker 3: such a little pep in our step. Yes, this is good.
- 3:22Speaker 3: This is good. So my favorite five star review is
- 3:24Speaker 3: from Liz Cox, and it's actually the reason why I
- 3:28Speaker 3: wanted to share some positivity, right, so she said, to
- 3:31Speaker 3: all the people who are making specific comments with those
- 3:33Speaker 3: star ratings, I think you're missing the fundamental point here.
- 3:38Speaker 3: I'm forty one and have learned more about finances and
- 3:41Speaker 3: investing in the past month with the help of this
- 3:43Speaker 3: podcast and a few others than I have in all
- 3:46Speaker 3: my years living, and the information has been invaluable. I
- 3:50Speaker 3: wish I had got this type of thing years ago.
- 3:52Speaker 3: This information is free, so informative and so useful.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Is so sweet, and thank you for sticking up for us,
- 3:59Speaker 1: because it is so funny when you're like, oh wow,
- 4:01Speaker 1: my personality has never been on blast like this before.
- 4:07Speaker 3: I can't change.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Can't change anything.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Actually, you're choosing to be here.
- 4:11Speaker 1: You're free, and we're just trying to help people learn.
- 4:14Speaker 3: I just really like talking about money. I really appreciate
- 4:18Speaker 3: someone was silly enough to consistently let me have a
- 4:20Speaker 3: platform to do that. And the fact that people still
- 4:23Speaker 3: listen blows my mind and I'm so grateful for it.
- 4:26Speaker 3: But overlaying all of that, the fact that women in
- 4:29Speaker 3: particular are changing their lives because of the content that
- 4:33Speaker 3: we create. I couldn't be more proud it's really beautiful.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Isn't that so cool? Keeping on the positive notes, Jess,
- 4:39Speaker 3: I want to know money wins and confessions from our
- 4:41Speaker 3: Facebook community. What have you got this week already?
- 4:44Speaker 5: Firstly, when I think we can all appreciate from Bailey Jean,
- 4:47Speaker 5: who said money win, I am a size seven women's shoe,
- 4:49Speaker 5: but I fit into a children's size six. Yeah. I
- 4:54Speaker 5: bought a set of Additor summers, which are obviously very
- 4:57Speaker 5: trendy right now on the weekend from the children's section
- 4:59Speaker 5: for one hundred and thirty dollars rather than paying the
- 5:01Speaker 5: full price women's which were one hundred and eighty.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Oh god, it's actually so smart. And there's sand Bears
- 5:07Speaker 3: that I want always out in the colorway that I want,
- 5:10Speaker 3: so I still do not own sand Bears. Please bring
- 5:13Speaker 3: back the beam pink. I don't know it's that one.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I don't know that's but I know that I will
- 5:18Speaker 3: like it. If it's like a fluo pink. It's they're
- 5:21Speaker 3: just really one's brook or Georgia has no Okay, the
- 5:24Speaker 3: team really likes we do.
- 5:27Speaker 4: We're all.
- 5:28Speaker 3: She's got the Neapolitan ones. George's got these like real beautiful,
- 5:32Speaker 3: like hot pink ones like to.
- 5:33Speaker 5: Google, I share a pick after Yes, thank you. Next,
- 5:36Speaker 5: I've got a money win from Grace, who said Medibank
- 5:38Speaker 5: gave me one hundred dollars for staying in customer during
- 5:41Speaker 5: the COVID period. Thanks many Bank, I know how nice
- 5:43Speaker 5: honey money went straight back into her bills account. So
- 5:46Speaker 5: ready to little circular economy there. Next, I've got a
- 5:49Speaker 5: money win from Mandy, who said she confronted her boss
- 5:52Speaker 5: and made sure she got the higher duty pay she
- 5:54Speaker 5: was entitled to. She said she worked in a male
- 5:57Speaker 5: dominated industry and the leading hand above her was going
- 6:00Speaker 5: on a holiday. Leading up to his leave, he tried
- 6:02Speaker 5: delegating his job out and writing out a schedule so
- 6:04Speaker 5: no one had to step into the role entirely to
- 6:07Speaker 5: be entitled to his pay. She took on the majority
- 6:09Speaker 5: of this stuff and the things that he said, oh,
- 6:11Speaker 5: don't worry about that. She also was going to have
- 6:13Speaker 5: to deal with if something went wrong. So after he
- 6:16Speaker 5: leaves the country, she spoke to her boss and.
- 6:18Speaker 3: You wait until he left the country.
- 6:20Speaker 5: Yeah, And her boss confirmed that she is effectively doing
- 6:24Speaker 5: that role. So she brought up the higher duty's clause
- 6:26Speaker 5: in her contract, and she agreed that she was entitled to.
- 6:29Speaker 3: The pay so money, we're sick a bit of a conic. Also,
- 6:33Speaker 3: I think it's so funny, Like it's not funny, but
- 6:35Speaker 3: it is funny, Like we just girls, Like I don't
- 6:38Speaker 3: want to be confrontational about this, but I also deserve
- 6:40Speaker 3: to get paid what I deserve to get paid. So
- 6:42Speaker 3: I am going to wait till you leave the country
- 6:44Speaker 3: and then I'm going to bring it up.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:45Speaker 3: I also hate that when you drank the confrontation. Don't
- 6:48Speaker 3: like you had to do that, but you did.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Yeah, totally good for you.
- 6:52Speaker 5: So sneaky to be like, oh, I'm splitting it up
- 6:54Speaker 5: between everyone, so everyone has no work and no one
- 6:57Speaker 5: has more pay.
- 6:58Speaker 1: That's so dotty sneak.
- 7:00Speaker 5: Well done, Mandy, Really happy for you, queen. Next, I've
- 7:03Speaker 5: got a money win from Rachel, who said she got
- 7:04Speaker 5: a very nice bonus for referring a friend to a
- 7:07Speaker 5: lovely real estate agent who had previously helped sell her
- 7:10Speaker 5: family home. She connected her friends to the agent and
- 7:13Speaker 5: they then used them for something and they got a
- 7:16Speaker 5: couple hundred bucks in cash.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Thank you. She said she thought.
- 7:19Speaker 5: She'd maybe get like a bottle of wine or something,
- 7:21Speaker 5: and instead cha chin.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Okay, I love cash instead of wine. Yeah, oh yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 3: give me the way. Imagine he is a fifty dollars
- 7:29Speaker 3: crispy note back. This tastes much better than why.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely, and you can buy twenty.
- 7:35Speaker 3: However, many bottles of goon, bottles of goon, bags of goon.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Bags of goon.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Baby. There you go.
- 7:41Speaker 5: Next, I've got money win from Caitlin who said she
- 7:43Speaker 5: just booked flights to Switzerland and I immediately ooh pricey,
- 7:47Speaker 5: but she said it was a third of the normal price.
- 7:49Speaker 5: They paid three thousand dollars in total for two people
- 7:53Speaker 5: return from Brisbane to Zurich, which is unbelievably cheap fifteen
- 7:57Speaker 5: hundred dollars return flight.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Then when you get there in burgers l fifty bucks seat,
- 8:01Speaker 3: she'll be like, why didn't I come just with I.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Wonder if it's like a crazy layover or something.
- 8:05Speaker 5: I don't know, but it was with Kata, she said,
- 8:07Speaker 5: if anybody should look it up for themselves, So there
- 8:09Speaker 5: you go.
- 8:09Speaker 3: I love that.
- 8:10Speaker 5: And then lastly, I just wanted.
- 8:11Speaker 3: To shout out.
- 8:12Speaker 5: We got a lot of good pet tax photos this week,
- 8:14Speaker 5: so definitely go to the thread, but shout out to
- 8:17Speaker 5: Alisha Sarah, Brooke, and Gabby who all included photos of
- 8:21Speaker 5: their pets, not just capts and dogs. We had chickens,
- 8:23Speaker 5: we had horsps. It's all happening on the thread this week.
- 8:27Speaker 5: Can go have a look and don't forget to leave
- 8:29Speaker 5: your money win there so I can have a look
- 8:31Speaker 5: and maybe.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Read yours out next week.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Yeah, we actually don't charge for our community. It's a
- 8:35Speaker 3: free community. You can join it obviously, look up She's
- 8:38Speaker 3: on the money on Facebook and join. But we do
- 8:40Speaker 3: ask for pet tax, and pet tax is payable in
- 8:43Speaker 3: the form of photos being posted in our group of
- 8:46Speaker 3: your pets.
- 8:47Speaker 1: If you don't drop pet, you take a photo of.
- 8:49Speaker 3: You can share other people's pets. You can share cute
- 8:51Speaker 3: pictures that you found on Instagram or Facebook. Literally wildlife,
- 8:55Speaker 3: like we don't care is it an animal? I mean,
- 8:58Speaker 3: you talk about the pet.
- 8:59Speaker 5: You've got a face to photo of the fet.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Like, they're the rules. They're the rules. Talk about a pet.
- 9:09Speaker 5: You got to post a photo of the pet.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Yeah, but they're the rules and we made them because
- 9:13Speaker 3: it's actually my group and I can do whatever I want. Well, exactly,
- 9:16Speaker 3: isn't that cool?
- 9:17Speaker 1: Exactly right?
- 9:18Speaker 3: This is what people do with adult decisions. Like, you know,
- 9:20Speaker 3: when people like what would you do with adult money?
- 9:23Speaker 3: Obviously I said, I wasn't going to ask you about
- 9:25Speaker 3: your weeks, but like, Jess, what did we do with
- 9:27Speaker 3: our adult money this week?
- 9:29Speaker 5: Well, we had a very fun team retreat this week,
- 9:31Speaker 5: which we did. We had a lot of fun. We
- 9:32Speaker 5: stayed at a really cute little hotel in the city,
- 9:34Speaker 5: which is really great.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Stayed at the Pullman, which was like bougie. It was
- 9:37Speaker 3: very There was a baf in room, Beck, a bath.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Ye you like hotel when there's a bath.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, And I did fill that bath with bubbles.
- 9:46Speaker 5: It was lovely.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Like the bath wasn't in her room, so
- 9:50Speaker 3: she borrowed my room for a bath because obviously I'm
- 9:53Speaker 3: not going to just take the bath for myself.
- 9:55Speaker 5: No. It was incredible, but we in the midst of
- 9:57Speaker 5: our working day, we were a little bit brain dead,
- 9:58Speaker 5: and so we said.
- 9:59Speaker 1: You know what we should do?
- 10:00Speaker 3: Do you know what's going to make us feel better?
- 10:02Speaker 3: Guess Beck, what would make us feel better in the
- 10:04Speaker 3: middle of the day.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Well, I'm thinking like gyg or something like that.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Oh, I love a bigger, bigger It is also like
- 10:11Speaker 3: I mean food themed in a way.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Melbourne Royal Show Petting Farm so close we would do that.
- 10:18Speaker 1: We went to the aquarancy Pesto Pesto, which I don't
- 10:24Speaker 1: know who that is. I'm just going to say for
- 10:26Speaker 1: those who don't have so.
- 10:27Speaker 3: For those of you who don't know, Pesto Pesto is
- 10:31Speaker 3: a king penguin baby who was born in captivity the
- 10:36Speaker 3: Melbourne Aquarium. He is the biggest king penguin to have
- 10:40Speaker 3: been born in captivity in Australia. He's so shonky and
- 10:45Speaker 3: he's standing next to his mum, who looks half his size.
- 10:48Speaker 3: He's still got all of his baby feathers, so he
- 10:51Speaker 3: looks like brown and fluffy, not like a king penguin,
- 10:54Speaker 3: and he beck is the cutest thing you've seen in
- 10:57Speaker 3: your life. I just showed her the video that I took.
- 10:59Speaker 3: I actually got a photo with Pesto life made. We
- 11:03Speaker 3: posted it in our broadcast channel. So on Instagram, we
- 11:06Speaker 3: kind of have like a it's kind of like a
- 11:08Speaker 3: group chat for all of us, but like we just
- 11:11Speaker 3: post I guess behind the scenes content if she's on
- 11:14Speaker 3: the money, things that we're up to every day. We
- 11:17Speaker 3: post some polls if we've got questions, And I posted
- 11:19Speaker 3: my selfie with Pesto in the group because that's obviously
- 11:23Speaker 3: the content that you guys are here for. But of
- 11:25Speaker 3: course that's what you can do with adult money.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, I love having adult money.
- 11:28Speaker 3: You can charge people pet tax, you can take your
- 11:32Speaker 3: team to go see Pesto the Penguin. Like life is good. Yeah,
- 11:37Speaker 3: it's great, but I mean getting a little stay ca
- 11:40Speaker 3: midweek not mad at me? Even better. We actually just
- 11:45Speaker 3: got back back. We stayed there last night, came to
- 11:47Speaker 3: the studio from thee.
- 11:48Speaker 1: I could feel a glow.
- 11:49Speaker 3: I feel really nice, slept very well, but like last night,
- 11:52Speaker 3: team got to go out. Just had a little watermelon cocktail.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I don't want to drink and I was like, as
- 11:59Speaker 1: she goes on the table, a few.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Would find pizzas and I was like, it doesn't even
- 12:03Speaker 3: feel like it's a midweek night. What is this?
- 12:07Speaker 1: But it does suck when you remind yourself by like
- 12:10Speaker 1: you're sitting there, you're having the best time. Then you
- 12:11Speaker 1: remind yourself you do have work tomorrow, and then you
- 12:13Speaker 1: feel that you're feeling your belly.
- 12:15Speaker 3: I'm going to have work. Yeah, we didn't want to leave.
- 12:16Speaker 3: We actually wanted to move in Alas. We can't afford
- 12:19Speaker 3: to live in hotels, so we just do it part
- 12:22Speaker 3: time break tips.
- 12:24Speaker 5: We could save up money to do it.
- 12:25Speaker 3: We absolutely could. I mean we didn't save up our
- 12:28Speaker 3: points and spent that. So that's yeah, yeah, brick tip.
- 12:32Speaker 3: It's actually a pretty good break tip. But Jess, let's
- 12:35Speaker 3: segue away from your money wins and into your broke tips.
- 12:40Speaker 3: If you got to bring to the table this week.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Okay, so I'm really loving the ones I have this week. Actually,
- 12:45Speaker 1: so the first one comes from a friend of mine,
- 12:46Speaker 1: not Jess, but actually I do have another friend one
- 12:51Speaker 1: other from Bianca, who says, if you keep the you
- 12:54Speaker 1: know those little pillows in your pill bottles that are like.
- 12:58Speaker 3: For moisture, oh, like the moisture.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Clothes and stuff.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Yeah, pillows.
- 13:03Speaker 1: So if you put those in like your bathroom drawers
- 13:06Speaker 1: or your makeup bags and stuff, it's the moisture something
- 13:09Speaker 1: something something happening.
- 13:11Speaker 3: That's a very helpful tips. The moisture getting into like
- 13:15Speaker 3: your makeup and like your undies and sock straw and stuff. Yes,
- 13:19Speaker 3: that's all moral and smart. I put them in my
- 13:23Speaker 3: cookie jars when I make cookies. Yes, because I like
- 13:25Speaker 3: a crispy cookie.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Oh that's actually a really good idea.
- 13:28Speaker 3: It broke tip for you.
- 13:29Speaker 1: That's great, and then things last longer.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Because the anchor and i'd get along.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Well, I actually do think, so I really think you'd
- 13:34Speaker 1: like this. Next one comes from Kylie, who sent me
- 13:38Speaker 1: a photo of an app. It's called half Price Coles
- 13:40Speaker 1: Woolwards like your plate store or whatever.
- 13:43Speaker 3: That is so perfect. Someone DMed me this week and said,
- 13:46Speaker 3: you need to share with your community this half price app.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Perfect.
- 13:49Speaker 3: I haven't had time to look into it, but you have.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Now it's a broke tip.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Now it's a broke tip.
- 13:53Speaker 3: So the app's called half Price.
- 13:55Speaker 1: It is basically get the latest half price specials from
- 13:58Speaker 1: Coals and wool Words for free. No catalogs need it,
- 14:01Speaker 1: even though I do love a catalog.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Yeah, but also there's an app. You don't have to
- 14:04Speaker 3: read the catalog. It pulls it all together for you.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Sure it is better for the environment, isn't it that?
- 14:10Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 14:10Speaker 1: You just like you jump on there. You check if
- 14:12Speaker 1: you want to do if you do a weekly grocery.
- 14:13Speaker 1: I'm really obviously you guys know what a bad with money,
- 14:15Speaker 1: So I do a daily grocery shop and it costs
- 14:17Speaker 1: a lot more money. But if you do do a
- 14:19Speaker 1: weekly shop, yeah, jump on there first and just see
- 14:21Speaker 1: what's on, see what's half price, and maybe you like
- 14:24Speaker 1: do a challenge. We just only get half price.
- 14:26Speaker 5: Thing I will not pay full price for like cleaning products,
- 14:30Speaker 5: laundry detergent pods, be scared, like because they all run
- 14:34Speaker 5: on a cycle, like every two to three weeks, they
- 14:36Speaker 5: all go to half price. So I will flat out
- 14:38Speaker 5: refuse to buy them full price because I know in
- 14:40Speaker 5: like two or three weeks that we half price.
- 14:42Speaker 1: That's I didn't know they ran on a cycle. Let's say,
- 14:44Speaker 1: too good information.
- 14:45Speaker 5: Yeah, there's a guy on TikTok who there's a he
- 14:47Speaker 5: made a plugin I think that goes on your Corome browser. Yeah,
- 14:50Speaker 5: so it sharks it like and you can literally see
- 14:52Speaker 5: some products like one week it's thirty dollars and the
- 14:55Speaker 5: next week it's fifteen, and it just alternates weeks.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Oh, this is something that really makes me quite angry. Actually,
- 15:01Speaker 3: I wrote an article on Sunday. I write every Sunday
- 15:05Speaker 3: for The Age and the Sydney Morning Herald. It is
- 15:07Speaker 3: probably the coolest thing about my career at this point, like,
- 15:10Speaker 3: I have a weekly money column, be for real, and
- 15:12Speaker 3: I have complete control over what I publish, which is
- 15:16Speaker 3: very very cool.
- 15:16Speaker 1: But this week dangerous.
- 15:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 15:18Speaker 3: But this week I talked about how the A Triple
- 15:21Speaker 3: C is taking action against coals and bullies essentially for
- 15:25Speaker 3: price gouging. And I have been really fired up about
- 15:28Speaker 3: this for a long time because that guy on TikTok
- 15:31Speaker 3: Jess he shows that, you know, the prices go up
- 15:33Speaker 3: and the prices go down, but if he goes back
- 15:35Speaker 3: a little bit further, like he used Oreos as an
- 15:38Speaker 3: example in one of his videos, and he showed that,
- 15:41Speaker 3: you know, this week, they were like five dollars a packet,
- 15:43Speaker 3: and then they were on sale for like three dollars
- 15:46Speaker 3: a packet, which Becky might go, that's a pretty good deal.
- 15:49Speaker 3: But then he goes back further and he goes, well, actually,
- 15:51Speaker 3: six months ago, three dollars was the full price, and
- 15:55Speaker 3: they would go on sale for two fifty and for
- 15:57Speaker 3: a dollar. It's crazy. Yeah, Like and all of that
- 16:01Speaker 3: is fine, but you just look at it and go
- 16:03Speaker 3: hold on. Your actually being quite manipulative here, trying to
- 16:07Speaker 3: convince me that three dollars is a good deal for
- 16:11Speaker 3: this item when historically it was more and obviously oreos.
- 16:15Speaker 3: From my perspective, they are an essential purchase to me,
- 16:18Speaker 3: like they are actually a luxury purchase. But this is
- 16:21Speaker 3: happening on bread and milk and all of the things
- 16:24Speaker 3: that we can't control. And obviously I follow the news
- 16:27Speaker 3: quite closely. But Albo our mate Anthony Albanezi, who is
- 16:31Speaker 3: our Prime minister, posted this week and said have you
- 16:34Speaker 3: ever done a double take on the specials tag? He said,
- 16:37Speaker 3: it's not good enough. That's why he's beefing up the
- 16:39Speaker 3: a Triple Sea with more funding to take on misleading
- 16:42Speaker 3: and deceptive pricing, which is I think a really good thing.
- 16:45Speaker 3: Like this isn't a political statement at all either, Like
- 16:48Speaker 3: I'm just sharing that our current government is doing something
- 16:52Speaker 3: about it, and that's what we love to see here,
- 16:55Speaker 3: not a political conversation. And they've introduced new mandatory food
- 17:00Speaker 3: and Grocery Code which means that supermarkets will face huge
- 17:03Speaker 3: multimillion dollar fines for doing the wrong thing. I think
- 17:07Speaker 3: that is a very good step in a very correct
- 17:10Speaker 3: direction when it comes to you know, obviously times are tough,
- 17:15Speaker 3: Inflation is really hard, the cost of goods and services
- 17:18Speaker 3: are going to increase, but people taking advantage of us
- 17:22Speaker 3: during that period of time unacceptable.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Totally totally agree.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Yeah, totally, so good money went back. Thank you. Sorry
- 17:29Speaker 3: for the side. No, it just had some information that
- 17:32Speaker 3: I wanted to share because this is now a news podcast.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Please, No, I'm very grateful for all information is good information.
- 17:38Speaker 3: So tell me what's your broke tip.
- 17:40Speaker 1: So Jess always has a way of accidentally perfectly segueing,
- 17:45Speaker 1: because you did say something about plugging before. I really,
- 17:47Speaker 1: I'm really clutching its straws here, but you say that's perfect,
- 17:50Speaker 1: something about plugging from DS.
- 17:52Speaker 3: You've got to plug in for us.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Yes, So I was buying you know Millie Savage. You
- 17:56Speaker 1: went to school with Millie Savage.
- 17:58Speaker 3: I love Millie Savage.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Yeah, And I was so I was online. I was
- 18:01Speaker 1: buying some really savage stuff because it's it's my partner's
- 18:04Speaker 1: birthy and soon, and I was just like, I was
- 18:07Speaker 1: just getting early. She was also having a sale. But anyway,
- 18:09Speaker 1: so there was a sale on and then also I
- 18:10Speaker 1: went to the checkout and I totally forgot I had
- 18:13Speaker 1: this the few plugins, a few extensions in my chrome,
- 18:17Speaker 1: and miraculously without doing literally anything, an extra fifty dollars
- 18:21Speaker 1: was taken off the pie.
- 18:22Speaker 3: I'm sorry, what so this extension gave you fifty bucks
- 18:26Speaker 3: off and did it for you and you didn't even
- 18:27Speaker 3: have to, like I did the discount.
- 18:29Speaker 1: I don't remember doing anything. I came up and what's
- 18:32Speaker 1: the extension? So there is Honey, there's also Pouch and
- 18:36Speaker 1: coopert all of them on Running Broke.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Tip, have all of the extensions. Don't just limit yourself
- 18:44Speaker 3: to one, all of them.
- 18:45Speaker 1: It's like you know, and also make sure you're not
- 18:47Speaker 1: downloading viruses, but like just just google them and then
- 18:50Speaker 1: download all of them.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Download legitimate ones. We know that Honey is legit. We
- 18:53Speaker 3: know shot back cash rewards all of those, Like you
- 18:56Speaker 3: don't have to be monogamous when it comes to astly
- 18:59Speaker 3: cash back absolutely with everybody.
- 19:01Speaker 5: Yeah, those things are really good because they often will
- 19:03Speaker 5: automatically when you get to like your checkout, you'll just
- 19:05Speaker 5: like run it for you. And so I've used I
- 19:08Speaker 5: don't know, I haven't used other ones, but I've used
- 19:10Speaker 5: Honey before and I know that it'll like automatically plug
- 19:12Speaker 5: in and try like a bunch of discount codes any
- 19:14Speaker 5: that has on file, and like I love that so
- 19:17Speaker 5: it's I literally feel like you know in.
- 19:19Speaker 3: A way, yeah, because it does it.
- 19:21Speaker 5: It's like in a movie when someone's like used to
- 19:23Speaker 5: hacking something, because literally it just is running through coupon codes.
- 19:27Speaker 5: It'll be like try Happy New Year, happy Birthday, I
- 19:30Speaker 5: miss you ten like yeah, runs through any of that.
- 19:34Speaker 3: That's what I do and check out, honey, the better
- 19:37Speaker 3: version of me quite possible.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Could replace you. It's kind of anxiety inducing though you're
- 19:43Speaker 1: like waiting your home. It's going to work, but it
- 19:46Speaker 1: is good to just have. So that's fine.
- 19:48Speaker 3: I love that. So we've got some discounts from Beck,
- 19:51Speaker 3: We've got some money wins from Jess, we had some
- 19:54Speaker 3: cute five star reviews. Let's go to a really quick
- 19:57Speaker 3: break because on the flip side, we're going to be
- 19:59Speaker 3: talking about if paying a if your debt should come
- 20:01Speaker 3: first when you score a sweet bonus, and we're going
- 20:03Speaker 3: to be getting into something juicier about whether chasing up
- 20:06Speaker 3: your mate for a couple of dollars is petty or
- 20:08Speaker 3: really practical. So don't go anywhere.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Welcome back everyone. Let's take a listen to the money dilemma.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma?
- 20:22Speaker 6: You just can't solve the Sheese on The Money Team

- 20:33Speaker 6: our website and leave us a short voice recording and
- 20:36Speaker 6: you might just find yourself on the show. Now, let's
- 20:38Speaker 6: take a listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 20:44Speaker 7: Hi team, Firstly, you love the pod. I'm single, in
- 20:47Speaker 7: my thirties and have a really good income. I am
- 20:51Speaker 7: set to receive a seventeen thousand dollars bonus, which is amazing.
- 20:56Speaker 7: This is the gross amount and I'm due to get
- 20:58Speaker 7: it in the next couple of weeks. I'm extremely lucky
- 21:02Speaker 7: to receive this, but I just wanted some advice on
- 21:05Speaker 7: how to use it. I want to do some renaults
- 21:09Speaker 7: on my house and I've wanted to do it for
- 21:11Speaker 7: a while now, but I also have eleven thousand dollars
- 21:13Speaker 7: worth of debt and this is not included in my mortgage. Obviously.
- 21:19Speaker 7: This debt is from past bad decisions, a personal loan
- 21:23Speaker 7: that has for one thousand dollars left. That was eighteen thousand,
- 21:27Speaker 7: and the rest is on an interest free credit card
- 21:30Speaker 7: for trouble. I'd love some advice on how I should
- 21:34Speaker 7: manage this. Obviously a big sum of money the renovations
- 21:38Speaker 7: I really want to do, but I know that having
- 21:41Speaker 7: this debt gone would make a huge difference.
- 21:44Speaker 3: Thanks, Okay, I have an answer that I don't want
- 21:48Speaker 3: to go first, So Beck, what would you do? Okay?
- 21:51Speaker 3: So first of all, Beckui's like I would just go
- 21:53Speaker 3: on a holiday.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Yeah, seriously, I would not be doing responsible things with
- 21:58Speaker 1: that money, but that's cool. I just want to say,
- 22:00Speaker 1: like paying down that debt eighteen thousand dollars like on
- 22:04Speaker 1: a personal loan tune, which I assume is like quite
- 22:06Speaker 1: high interest, Like, that's incredible, so very very well done. Personally,
- 22:09Speaker 1: I don't know, it's probably not the right thing to do,
- 22:11Speaker 1: but I would just pay the four thousand from the
- 22:12Speaker 1: personal loans that just like wipe that out of the way,
- 22:15Speaker 1: and then slowly pay off the interestry credit card at
- 22:17Speaker 1: your leisure and then you want to do redo's you
- 22:21Speaker 1: want to do things like that, I would probably see
- 22:24Speaker 1: how much that costs, maybe put a little bit aside
- 22:27Speaker 1: for that and see if there was like you know, say,
- 22:29Speaker 1: for example, you want to like do your whole bathroom,
- 22:31Speaker 1: be like, oh, I would feel good right now if
- 22:33Speaker 1: maybe just the walls were painted and then do the
- 22:35Speaker 1: rest later. Like I would probably just find a way
- 22:37Speaker 1: to do as much as they could with that money,
- 22:40Speaker 1: the remaining money, and then honestly treat myself with the rest.
- 22:44Speaker 1: I love that.
- 22:45Speaker 3: I love that, and I think that working. You said
- 22:47Speaker 3: something really good about the renovation. It's like, for example,
- 22:50Speaker 3: I'm about to renovate my bathrooms and like I had
- 22:53Speaker 3: no idea what that would cost. So like have I
- 22:56Speaker 3: renovated before, Yes, But like every single time you renovate,
- 22:59Speaker 3: it's going to be a different amount because there might
- 23:01Speaker 3: be different like facilities. So for example, in the first
- 23:05Speaker 3: house that I renovated, everything was brick, so like all
- 23:09Speaker 3: the walls were brick, which meant that moving things took
- 23:12Speaker 3: a lot of time, a lot of energy, really hard.
- 23:15Speaker 3: We are now renovating in a house that is basically
- 23:18Speaker 3: it's like a shack, it's like a beach house, and
- 23:21Speaker 3: it's got the thinnest walls in the entire world. Like
- 23:23Speaker 3: some of the walls don't even go all the way
- 23:25Speaker 3: to the roof, so like removing them or changing and
- 23:28Speaker 3: super easy, So much less of a cost. However, I
- 23:32Speaker 3: actually went into Reese Plumbing the other day because they
- 23:34Speaker 3: like do like that free consult thing, and they were
- 23:38Speaker 3: explaining that with the design that I had drawn arm
- 23:41Speaker 3: there are going to be some hidden costs because moving
- 23:44Speaker 3: like the toilet to where I want to move it
- 23:45Speaker 3: to is going to be a bit more expensive than
- 23:48Speaker 3: I'd anticipated because I didn't realize that, like moving the
- 23:50Speaker 3: plumbing was like something that was so much more expensive.
- 23:53Speaker 3: And that's fine. But your idea of going and getting
- 23:56Speaker 3: a budget and understanding what it might cost for you
- 23:59Speaker 3: is really good because you could google it, but like
- 24:01Speaker 3: that's not going to give you insight. Like I've seen
- 24:04Speaker 3: online people who renovated their budget for two grand and
- 24:06Speaker 3: then people who spent fifty thousand dollars and you just yeah,
- 24:09Speaker 3: never know, right, But I think that's good advice. Jess,
- 24:12Speaker 3: what would you do?
- 24:13Speaker 5: I think an important part she said that a lot
- 24:16Speaker 5: of her debt that she has is from bad past decisions,
- 24:19Speaker 5: and someone who's also been there, I think an important
- 24:21Speaker 5: part of like moving out of that phase of your
- 24:24Speaker 5: life is learning to make sacrifice, because I think it
- 24:27Speaker 5: really helps you then go what is the cost of
- 24:31Speaker 5: the things that I did. So, like if I've spent
- 24:32Speaker 5: all this money put it on a credit card and
- 24:34Speaker 5: it wasn't a necessity, Like you went on a holiday,
- 24:36Speaker 5: and maybe you couldn't fall the holidays you put on the card.
- 24:38Speaker 5: I think an important part of like growing out of
- 24:41Speaker 5: that habit or that phase is going okay. Well, because
- 24:45Speaker 5: I did that, I now need to make sacrifice. So
- 24:48Speaker 5: to me personally, it feels important to pay that debt down,
- 24:52Speaker 5: even the interest free debt, as much as you're not
- 24:55Speaker 5: like you're totally right back, like you're a bad debt. Yeah,
- 24:57Speaker 5: from a financial perspective, like you're not losing money to
- 24:59Speaker 5: inter on that, I agree, the personal loan is definitely
- 25:02Speaker 5: the more pressing priority that I would say has to
- 25:05Speaker 5: be paid off. But I think like learning to go, oh, well,
- 25:07Speaker 5: I really want to renovate my bathroom, but I still
- 25:10Speaker 5: need to make up for the money that I've spent.
- 25:12Speaker 5: And I think that it would be a really good
- 25:15Speaker 5: way to kind of help teach yourself good financial habits
- 25:17Speaker 5: to go okay, Like, as much as I want that thing,
- 25:19Speaker 5: knowing that I've earned this great sum of money, using
- 25:22Speaker 5: that to pay down my debt is the more financially
- 25:25Speaker 5: responsible choice from my perspective, and I think that doing
- 25:28Speaker 5: that will really help solidify you into good habits, or
- 25:31Speaker 5: at least that was my personal experience. Like from a
- 25:34Speaker 5: financial perspective, you know, the interest free card is maybe
- 25:37Speaker 5: not the worst thing in the world, and maybe you
- 25:38Speaker 5: could split the money up and that would also work
- 25:40Speaker 5: really well. But I mean, just speaking on what worked
- 25:44Speaker 5: for me, I think maybe learning to go okay, Like
- 25:46Speaker 5: I want to close that chapter of my life of
- 25:48Speaker 5: bad spending, and you know, make the choice that is
- 25:51Speaker 5: maybe not the fun choice, not the exciting choice, but
- 25:54Speaker 5: the one that will put me in the strongest foundational
- 25:58Speaker 5: position is probably I would suggest. But I mean, you
- 26:01Speaker 5: could do it whatever you want.
- 26:03Speaker 3: So obviously there are two different opinions, and that is
- 26:06Speaker 3: great because we all do what's in line with our
- 26:09Speaker 3: own values. And I don't know her values. But if
- 26:11Speaker 3: I was in this position, I would actually step back.
- 26:14Speaker 3: I know, I've got seventeen thousand dollars. First thing I
- 26:16Speaker 3: would do is actually go and work out what my
- 26:20Speaker 3: renovations are going to cost so that I can create
- 26:22Speaker 3: myself a little budget. Then what I'm going to do,
- 26:25Speaker 3: I'm going to trot down to Zella money. You need
- 26:27Speaker 3: a good mortgage broker. A mortgage broker is going to
- 26:30Speaker 3: sit you down and help you structure your debt. And
- 26:33Speaker 3: I don't think a lot of people know that we
- 26:35Speaker 3: do this. So you've got seventeen thousand dollars in cash,
- 26:38Speaker 3: that's fantastic. There is heaps of things you could do.
- 26:41Speaker 3: You could go on a holiday, you could pay it
- 26:43Speaker 3: all off your mortgage, you could pay off your personal debt.
- 26:45Speaker 3: You could spend all of that money on a renovation.
- 26:48Speaker 3: But what I want you to do is sit down
- 26:49Speaker 3: with a mortgage broker who can look at your mortgage
- 26:52Speaker 3: and go, okay, cool, do you have any equity? What
- 26:56Speaker 3: would that look like potentially to release some of that
- 26:58Speaker 3: equity to spend your renovations. Chatting with a broker to say, hey, beck,
- 27:03Speaker 3: I know that you've bought this apartment and you want
- 27:06Speaker 3: to do renovations, but what's the long term plan? Are
- 27:10Speaker 3: you moving out of this in six months? And you go, yeah, well,
- 27:13Speaker 3: I only bought it so that I could get the
- 27:14Speaker 3: first homeowners grants and now I want to move out
- 27:17Speaker 3: because you know, it's not even in the suburb that
- 27:19Speaker 3: I want to live. In like, I'm just making up
- 27:21Speaker 3: a situation, right, and your broker could actually say, well, actually,
- 27:25Speaker 3: let's step back and look at rental yield in the area. Well, Beck,
- 27:30Speaker 3: I know you want a new kitchen, and that sounds great,
- 27:32Speaker 3: Saw Victoria do her Kerboodle kitchen look to the elite,
- 27:35Speaker 3: but it doesn't actually add any value to you leasing
- 27:38Speaker 3: out your property. So you know, spending ten grand on
- 27:40Speaker 3: the kitchen is probably not actually a good investment because
- 27:43Speaker 3: your kitchen's fine. Maybe aesthetically you don't like it, but
- 27:47Speaker 3: they're going to be able to give you some ideas
- 27:49Speaker 3: and some insight as to whether the decisions you're making
- 27:52Speaker 3: around renovation are going to add to value or over
- 27:55Speaker 3: capitalize the property, which is a really important factor to
- 27:58Speaker 3: take into consideration when doing renovations, because you don't want
- 28:02Speaker 3: to go all right, well I bought my apartment for
- 28:04Speaker 3: five hundred thousand dollars and then oh, it's not the
- 28:07Speaker 3: right kitchen and not the right bathrooms, and I'm not
- 28:09Speaker 3: going to leave here forever, but I'm going to spend
- 28:11Speaker 3: some money on it, and then you actually ultimately have
- 28:14Speaker 3: put more money into this property than what you would
- 28:15Speaker 3: get back if you sold it. Is not putting you
- 28:18Speaker 3: and future you in the best possible position. Obviously that
- 28:21Speaker 3: is not necessarily the reality of her situation. But what
- 28:24Speaker 3: I want you to get from this is that talking
- 28:26Speaker 3: to a mortgage broker is going to put you in control.
- 28:29Speaker 3: That mortgage broker can then sit you down and have
- 28:31Speaker 3: a look at your debt. So one thing a mortgage
- 28:34Speaker 3: broker can do as well is take that interest free
- 28:36Speaker 3: loan and maybe consolidate it with your mortgage. They could
- 28:39Speaker 3: also advise you to pay it off from your seventeen
- 28:43Speaker 3: thousand dollars worth of cash. I definitely think that that
- 28:47Speaker 3: high interest four thousand dollar loan should be knocked on
- 28:50Speaker 3: the head pretty quickly. But again there's so many moving parts.
- 28:54Speaker 3: But what I would be doing is getting some advice.
- 28:56Speaker 3: And the money in here is that talking to a
- 28:58Speaker 3: mortgage broker most of the time, and I know in
- 29:01Speaker 3: my business it is. It's free. So like you're not
- 29:03Speaker 3: going to pay to go to Zella money. Some mortgage
- 29:06Speaker 3: brokers do charge. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's
- 29:09Speaker 3: just that's their choice. I just don't. And the reason
- 29:12Speaker 3: I don't charge for appointments is because I know that
- 29:16Speaker 3: I will be paid by the bank for settling your loan,
- 29:19Speaker 3: and I don't want to double dip. I just doesn't
- 29:21Speaker 3: see it right with me, And that's fine, but that's
- 29:24Speaker 3: probably where I would go with that.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Okay, I like it. I like it.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Just get advice, Like, if you've got these experts at
- 29:32Speaker 3: your disposal, why are we not using them? Absolutely, Like,
- 29:36Speaker 3: I know that you're trying to do the absolute right thing,
- 29:38Speaker 3: and that's so exciting, but like zoom out of it.
- 29:41Speaker 3: Be like, oh, I could talk to a mortgage broker,
- 29:43Speaker 3: you know what, they might even be able to refinance
- 29:45Speaker 3: your loan, like and get you a lower interest rate,
- 29:48Speaker 3: and across the board, you'd be able to pay off
- 29:49Speaker 3: your mortgage quicker and you'd be in an even better
- 29:51Speaker 3: financial position. So true sexy. All right, let's get into
- 29:57Speaker 3: something a little bit sparky. Are you ready? Are you ready?
- 30:00Speaker 3: So this week we got a DM and it sounded
- 30:03Speaker 3: exactly like this, heyshi's on the money. I've been labeled
- 30:06Speaker 3: the tight us in my group, so I need some
- 30:08Speaker 3: advice fairpoint with the right people to come to.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 30:12Speaker 3: The other night, eight of us went bowling and had
- 30:14Speaker 3: food and drinks, etc. I paid the entire bill to
- 30:17Speaker 3: make it easier, and one of the girls calculated everyone's share.
- 30:21Speaker 3: Then everyone transferred me their bit. The next day, I
- 30:23Speaker 3: was checking my bank, as you do, and I noticed
- 30:26Speaker 3: I was four dollars and twenty five percent short per person.
- 30:30Speaker 3: I know it's small, but across eight people that's like
- 30:32Speaker 3: thirty four dollars, which is not nothing. So I mentioned
- 30:36Speaker 3: it to the group super casually, not thinking it would
- 30:39Speaker 3: be a big deal. Well, now the girls are calling
- 30:41Speaker 3: me the receipt police and making jokes about me double
- 30:45Speaker 3: checking every cent. They've even sent memes to the group chat.
- 30:49Speaker 3: I honestly didn't think that four dollars twenty five was
- 30:51Speaker 3: a big deal. I was just cleaning up. But it's
- 30:53Speaker 3: still my money. Right now, I'm feeling like the villain
- 30:56Speaker 3: for bringing it up. Was I being too petty or
- 30:59Speaker 3: was I right to ask for the full amount to
- 31:01Speaker 3: be fixed up? And how do I stop the teasing
- 31:04Speaker 3: without making it more awkward?
- 31:05Speaker 5: Oh my god, I'm so sorry that they're doing you mean,
- 31:11Speaker 5: it's awful.
- 31:12Speaker 1: I can't imagine in any friend group I've ever had
- 31:17Speaker 1: that someone would be like one personal and everyone would
- 31:21Speaker 1: be so comfortable knowing that I'm out of pocket. So much.
- 31:24Speaker 3: Absolutely not said I calculated it, or in this situation,
- 31:29Speaker 3: somebody else calculated it for you, they miscalculated it. I
- 31:33Speaker 3: think that everyone should be transferring it to you, but
- 31:36Speaker 3: also that person should be like, oh, sorry, beg to
- 31:38Speaker 3: put you in that position.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Totally, because like if you're like, hey, it's sorry, actually
- 31:44Speaker 1: five bucks each, but because it's you know, everyone, it's
- 31:46Speaker 1: like a significant blow to my bankyard. There's I wouldn't
- 31:49Speaker 1: even have to finish that sentence.
- 31:51Speaker 3: For anyone ever, like.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, like I'll transfer right now, you know,
- 31:56Speaker 1: like not a big deal at all. There's I know
- 31:59Speaker 1: it's it's hard to say.
- 32:00Speaker 3: Thirty four dollars is so much money as well, Like
- 32:03Speaker 3: don't get wrong, Like some people will be like, oh
- 32:05Speaker 3: I could cover that. That is your privilege, Like that
- 32:08Speaker 3: is such a nice position to be and if you were, like,
- 32:10Speaker 3: I wouldn't worry about that. I am so grateful for you.
- 32:14Speaker 3: I totally get that. I'm so happy that you're in
- 32:17Speaker 3: that position. But not everybody is in a position where
- 32:21Speaker 3: carrying thirty five dollars of unexpected cost is reasonable for them,
- 32:27Speaker 3: or even fair. Why would you want to put your
- 32:29Speaker 3: friend in a financially stressful position.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I think personally, last resort for any scenario is
- 32:36Speaker 1: get new friends, resort catcher. I feel like maybe you
- 32:43Speaker 1: need a nicer community around you because they do not
- 32:45Speaker 1: seem like nice.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Friends will be your friends. I'll transfer you five bucks.
- 32:48Speaker 1: I'll transfer five bucks right now. Send me a pay idea.
- 32:51Speaker 1: I'll send you five bucks. I'll send you thirty four dollars.
- 32:54Speaker 3: That's fair, But jess, what would you do.
- 32:56Speaker 5: I feel like I've said something similar to this before,
- 32:59Speaker 5: where it's really annoying because you do feel kind of
- 33:01Speaker 5: like a jerk when you're like, oh, you're only three
- 33:03Speaker 5: dollars or four dollars. Like, I get that it's kind
- 33:05Speaker 5: of embarrassing to say to someone hey, or like, because
- 33:08Speaker 5: you do feel petty like it shouldn't be a day.
- 33:10Speaker 5: Well that's exactly. Oh it was my Christmas. This happened
- 33:12Speaker 5: to me one Yeah, like I like paint everything, and
- 33:14Speaker 5: it was Yeah. Anyway, So I fully understand that pain,
- 33:18Speaker 5: and I think maybe the best way to communicate it
- 33:21Speaker 5: to people like again, not that you should have to
- 33:23Speaker 5: justify it, but you know, obviously understanding that you want
- 33:26Speaker 5: to stuften the blow and not be teased anymore. I
- 33:29Speaker 5: would maybe just point that out to them, like, oh,
- 33:31Speaker 5: four dollars from one person seems like nothing, it's a coffee.
- 33:34Speaker 5: But when it's everybody adds dated the group chat to
- 33:36Speaker 5: a certain amount. In group chat, I want to be added.
- 33:40Speaker 5: I've got stuff to say to them.
- 33:42Speaker 3: I mean, like, Hi, I'm just here. Was this bullying
- 33:44Speaker 3: about money? That's weird from you? That's a very strange
- 33:47Speaker 3: thing to say publicly.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, totally weird.
- 33:52Speaker 5: Like I think if it was me, I would just
- 33:53Speaker 5: message the group chat and say, hey, I was like,
- 33:56Speaker 5: maybe lean into the joke a little bit to make
- 33:58Speaker 5: it easier on yourself and be like, I don't mean
- 33:59Speaker 5: to be received police, but you know, with everyone owing
- 34:02Speaker 5: me money amount and I you know, again, if it
- 34:06Speaker 5: was me, i'd probably just be like, oh, and I
- 34:08Speaker 5: had really planned on spending that money on something.
- 34:10Speaker 3: So we don't have to justify yourself though you shouldn't
- 34:12Speaker 3: have to.
- 34:13Speaker 5: But I also understand the need, if you're not great
- 34:16Speaker 5: with confrontation, to soften that blow. So that's kind of That's.
- 34:18Speaker 3: Why I liked before that we waited until that person
- 34:21Speaker 3: had left the country.
- 34:23Speaker 1: With our boss. We just girls.
- 34:25Speaker 5: Yeah, So like I would probably kind of try and
- 34:28Speaker 5: show the bigger picture and maybe say, oh, I had
- 34:30Speaker 5: it allocated to something like that's why I'm kind of
- 34:32Speaker 5: chasing it that like be like, oh, I'm so sorry,
- 34:34Speaker 5: but like I had it set aside for someone's birthday present,
- 34:36Speaker 5: even if that's not true. Just that's what I would
- 34:38Speaker 5: do to make myself a bit more comfy. And I
- 34:41Speaker 5: think not that this helps your situation right now, but
- 34:44Speaker 5: probably a good lesson of everyone going forward is if
- 34:46Speaker 5: people are your money, maybe you be the one that
- 34:47Speaker 5: works it out so that you can make sure that
- 34:49Speaker 5: it's done.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Correctly the first time.
- 34:52Speaker 5: But like as you said back, like the very much
- 34:54Speaker 5: the overwhelming thing is people should not be making you
- 34:56Speaker 5: feel that way, and I'm so sorry that they are.
- 34:58Speaker 5: That's horrendous.
- 35:00Speaker 3: And you're not like to send them this podcast? Yeah,
- 35:02Speaker 3: say this podcast and be like skip to sixteen minutes
- 35:05Speaker 3: and forty three seconds. I dare you and.
- 35:07Speaker 5: Listen to the three of us saying we think you're objecked.
- 35:11Speaker 3: So you yeah, because you heard it here first. Oh, honestly,
- 35:17Speaker 3: I would follow them up. I feel like I'm the
- 35:19Speaker 3: type of person that if you make fun of me
- 35:22Speaker 3: for that, like I just I want to make you uncomfortable,
- 35:26Speaker 3: Like I would be the first to be like, that's
- 35:28Speaker 3: a really weird thing to say out loud.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Aggressive I like it.
- 35:34Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a really weird thing to say.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Yeah, like that should have been an inside thought.
- 35:39Speaker 3: Your inside thoughts are currently outside. Was that a mistake No,
- 35:43Speaker 3: but genuinely like, oh, I didn't realize it was an issue.
- 35:50Speaker 3: My bank account details are.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't even like, like.
- 35:55Speaker 3: We don't need to play into the drama like your option.
- 35:58Speaker 3: Your friends are kind of being dicks and I don't know,
- 36:01Speaker 3: like I thankfully don't have any friends that I would
- 36:05Speaker 3: ever feel like I need to call out, Like I
- 36:07Speaker 3: feel like all of my friends if I was like
- 36:09Speaker 3: far out that was five dollars shorts, like the same
- 36:10Speaker 3: as your friends back, they immediately, oh, let me fix that,
- 36:13Speaker 3: Like totally, I'm also the same, like I don't want
- 36:17Speaker 3: people to be out that I think on a deeper level,
- 36:19Speaker 3: like even going bowling and having some drinks. I remember
- 36:24Speaker 3: back when I was at university having to think really
- 36:28Speaker 3: carefully about the social engagements that I was partaking in,
- 36:32Speaker 3: Like I would have googled the bowling alley and made
- 36:34Speaker 3: sure that I could afford the game that my friends
- 36:37Speaker 3: wanted to do, I'd probably extrapolid it out in my
- 36:40Speaker 3: head and be like, oh, what if they want to
- 36:41Speaker 3: do a second one? How much would that cost? I
- 36:44Speaker 3: probably already looked at the menu like to make sure
- 36:46Speaker 3: that it was in my budget, because like I didn't
- 36:49Speaker 3: have money, and if I did, I didn't want to
- 36:53Speaker 3: feel uncomfortable in a group situation, like I feel like
- 36:57Speaker 3: we've all been there at some point where we're like, oh, yep,
- 37:00Speaker 3: I can afford that to then be thirty four dollars
- 37:02Speaker 3: out like I couldn't have afforded that, and flipping back
- 37:05Speaker 3: to who I used to be, and I'm very privileged
- 37:09Speaker 3: to have, like I guess glowed up since then financially,
- 37:13Speaker 3: but like flipping back to who I used to be
- 37:15Speaker 3: that would have kept me up at night. That would
- 37:17Speaker 3: have made me feel sick. And then for people to
- 37:19Speaker 3: be mean to me about that, like why are you
- 37:23Speaker 3: shaming someone about money? Like that's giving me the ick
- 37:28Speaker 3: that these people think that that's okay, Like I mean
- 37:33Speaker 3: flipping the narrative a little bit, who knows, like maybe
- 37:37Speaker 3: this money this diarist because we always lack a lot
- 37:40Speaker 3: of context here, maybe this person who has written in
- 37:43Speaker 3: everybody knows that Jessica has Daddy's credit card, and Jessica
- 37:48Speaker 3: actually put bowling on Daddy's credit card. So maybe they're
- 37:51Speaker 3: playing a little bit of like a game because they're like, yes,
- 37:55Speaker 3: you didn't even pay for that, and you're chasing up
- 37:56Speaker 3: that five dollars, like, and maybe they know something we don't.
- 38:00Speaker 3: I'm not justifying it, but like, I just think that
- 38:03Speaker 3: any type of money shame not acceptable.
- 38:06Speaker 5: No, you star money, pay them the money regardless if
- 38:08Speaker 5: it's five hundred dollars or five dollars, doesn't matter.
- 38:10Speaker 3: Exactally thick about it. We obviously asked the community. We said,
- 38:13Speaker 3: would you ask everyone for the four twenty five, fifty
- 38:16Speaker 3: one percent of you said yeah, it's my money. Forty
- 38:19Speaker 3: nine percent of you said no, I'd leave it. And
- 38:20Speaker 3: I'm pretty convinced that forty nine percent of you who
- 38:23Speaker 3: said that you'd leave it, you just would leave it
- 38:25Speaker 3: because it's awkward. Yeah, totally like not because you don't
- 38:28Speaker 3: believe it's your money. You're just like, oh, I wish
- 38:31Speaker 3: it was calculated probably at the start.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Yeah, Unfortunately, there is there have been times where, like
- 38:36Speaker 1: I'm sure there are people out there who and myself included,
- 38:39Speaker 1: where you have literally three cents and you're like, I have.
- 38:43Speaker 3: That thirty money ale grocery shop. Yeah, totally cut that out.
- 38:47Speaker 3: And also, we live in Australia. It doesn't cost us
- 38:51Speaker 3: anything to transfer our friends' money like that four dollars
- 38:55Speaker 3: and twenty five cents. It's going to cost you nothing
- 38:57Speaker 3: except the four dollars and twenty five cents to put
- 38:59Speaker 3: it in someone else's account. Yeah, just do the right thing.
- 39:03Speaker 3: We also ask the community there are two types of people,
- 39:05Speaker 3: those who ask for and transfer the exact amount to
- 39:08Speaker 3: the cent and those that use round numbers. Who are you?
- 39:12Speaker 1: I feel like that's so interesting.
- 39:14Speaker 3: Which one are you? We said every cent counts. Thirty
- 39:18Speaker 3: six percent of you said yes, and sixty four percent
- 39:20Speaker 3: of you said, actually, I only deal in round numbers.
- 39:23Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree, but I always round up, always round.
- 39:26Speaker 3: That, always round up. Like, Jesse, if the bill's thirty
- 39:29Speaker 3: eight dollars fifty, what are you transferring?
- 39:30Speaker 5: Wait, thirty nine dollars?
- 39:32Speaker 1: Yeah, nine dollars yeah yeah, yeah, Like we're not lying crazy,
- 39:34Speaker 1: We're not going to fifty.
- 39:35Speaker 3: No, But like you get a little bit of tax,
- 39:37Speaker 3: you get a little bit of tax. Yeah, because you
- 39:40Speaker 3: are the one that took it for the team. Yeah,
- 39:42Speaker 3: I agree.
- 39:43Speaker 1: That's the other thing that's really unfair about this is
- 39:45Speaker 1: not you want to be the one to pay the
- 39:47Speaker 1: full bill.
- 39:48Speaker 3: You guys didn't put your hands up. Yeah, I put
- 39:50Speaker 3: my hands up and I paid for this and now
- 39:52Speaker 3: I'm out for this.
- 39:54Speaker 1: You are good deed for a good deed.
- 39:56Speaker 3: One out of ten, we.
- 39:57Speaker 1: See that good deeds, no good deed.
- 40:00Speaker 5: Sorry, that's a weiked reference for anybody.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Seen that. But I love the singing.
- 40:05Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 40:07Speaker 3: We can move on from the singing, because, like, while
- 40:09Speaker 3: I love the singing, it's not good. It's not good,
- 40:12Speaker 3: not ideal. But we said to the community, all right,
- 40:15Speaker 3: we're gonna need your two cents and I've got a
- 40:17Speaker 3: few for you. So first person said, why should the
- 40:19Speaker 3: friend have to pay another thirty five bucks on top.
- 40:21Speaker 6: Of what everybody else has already paid, completely exactly plea.
- 40:27Speaker 3: Someone else said, just leave the group chat. They don't
- 40:30Speaker 3: sound like very good friends Whitney in general. All right, yeah,
- 40:34Speaker 3: Paula Whitney, leave the group chat. Someone else said, I
- 40:39Speaker 3: use split wise with my friends and it helps so much.
- 40:41Speaker 3: I do love split wy yes, I adore split wise.
- 40:44Speaker 3: Every time I travel with friends, we use it. But
- 40:47Speaker 3: also if somebody put the wrong amount into split wise,
- 40:51Speaker 3: the same problem, same problem. Yeah that's true, but also
- 40:54Speaker 3: split wiz does really make things clear. Someone else said
- 40:57Speaker 3: she can lean into being the receipt police back cop
- 41:00Speaker 3: memes and she's on the money rhetoric.
- 41:05Speaker 5: Photoshop yourself into that one of the cop with the
- 41:07Speaker 5: mustache pointing being like, you.
- 41:12Speaker 4: Send it to all of them.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Yeah, this is a good idea.
- 41:17Speaker 3: We will make you a meme, just and it will
- 41:20Speaker 3: make you a meme. And it's me. It's me looking
- 41:23Speaker 3: down the barrel of the camera being like, I will
- 41:26Speaker 3: find you. Yeah, Hi, sorry, I just heard that you
- 41:31Speaker 3: don't pay weird. Someone else said, I never pay the
- 41:34Speaker 3: bill for others, as they take ages to pay me back,
- 41:37Speaker 3: and I'm the one that always pays back immediately. See,
- 41:41Speaker 3: this is what happens when you're a good guy.
- 41:43Speaker 1: I feel like, you know those people that take all
- 41:45Speaker 1: the photos and they take forever to send it, they're
- 41:48Speaker 1: the same people that take forever to send money. So
- 41:51Speaker 1: I would steer clear. It's a good sign, and I
- 41:54Speaker 1: think steer clear of those ones.
- 41:55Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well just go places that split the bill. Yeah,
- 41:59Speaker 3: split the bill.
- 42:00Speaker 1: I'd love to split the bill.
- 42:01Speaker 3: Someone else said, I'd actually drop it because that's who
- 42:04Speaker 3: I am as a person. But I would never offer
- 42:07Speaker 3: to pay the bill to make it easier for anyone. Again. Yeah,
- 42:11Speaker 3: I'll take them off ont it. Someone else said, let
- 42:14Speaker 3: it go. There's bigger world problems. Must be nice. Well
- 42:17Speaker 3: that point of view, that might be the biggest.
- 42:20Speaker 1: That might be a big problem.
- 42:22Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 42:22Speaker 3: Someone else said, sorry, think you need new friends. I'm
- 42:25Speaker 3: a nice lady.
- 42:26Speaker 5: Please still sweet, big friends.
- 42:30Speaker 3: Someone else said, thirty four bucks is half a tank
- 42:32Speaker 3: of petrol. If it was one or two people, Sure,
- 42:35Speaker 3: five bucks is no big deal, but eight people that's
- 42:38Speaker 3: a lot.
- 42:39Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 42:39Speaker 3: Someone else said, only dealing round numbers, I round up.
- 42:42Speaker 3: I consider it the tax to the person who paid. Agreed.
- 42:45Speaker 3: I agree. Good place to leave it with my friends.
- 42:47Speaker 3: As always, we hope you have a beautiful weekend. If
- 42:50Speaker 3: you haven't joined our Facebook community, please do that because
- 42:54Speaker 3: I just love having all my friends there that want
- 42:56Speaker 3: to see and pay pet tax. I just mentioned Whitney
- 43:00Speaker 3: and tomorrow I have a secret lives of the Mormon
- 43:03Speaker 3: wives or deep Dive coming for you. So if you've
- 43:06Speaker 3: stayed to the end of this episode. You now know
- 43:08Speaker 3: what's dropping tomorrow, so we will see you or I
- 43:11Speaker 3: will see you tomorrow, but the rest of the team
- 43:13Speaker 3: will see you next week. Have a good weekend, guys.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Bye, guys Bye.
