- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.

- 1:09Speaker 5: to celebrate Christmas v.
- 1:12Speaker 2: With you today.
- 1:13Speaker 4: I adore this. I'm so glad to have you back
- 1:16Speaker 4: behind the mic. I guess guys, welcome back to another
- 1:18Speaker 4: one of our money diaries. Obviously Analisa is in a
- 1:22Speaker 4: voice you hear on money diaries very often, but when
- 1:25Speaker 4: you do, you know it's the end of year. Wrap
- 1:28Speaker 4: and you know that we've got some stories to share
- 1:30Speaker 4: with you to wrap the year that was.
- 1:31Speaker 5: There's lots of wrapping being wrapped unwrapped today v So
- 1:35Speaker 5: we're doing an audio version.
- 1:36Speaker 2: We're doing an audio rap. I love it.
- 1:38Speaker 4: Watch out Spotify. But I'm excited to talk to you today.
- 1:42Speaker 4: I guess today being Christmas, I just want to do
- 1:45Speaker 4: a little bit of a shout out. If you're listening
- 1:46Speaker 4: on your Christmas morning and you're having a great day, fantastic,
- 1:50Speaker 4: Merry Christmas, my friend. If you're listening today and you're
- 1:52Speaker 4: feeling a little bit lonely, a little bit under the weather,
- 1:55Speaker 4: a little bit like, oh, Christmas is the worst time
- 1:57Speaker 4: of the year. I see you, I hear you. I'm
- 1:59Speaker 4: sorry that's the position that you're in. But today is
- 2:03Speaker 4: only a season that you're going through and these things
- 2:05Speaker 4: will change. And just know that I'm thinking of you today.
- 2:08Speaker 4: I know the Anna Lisa is as well. You've got us,
- 2:11Speaker 4: We're with you, we love you, We're Merry Christmas if
- 2:14Speaker 4: that's what you celebrate, Mary not Christmas. If you don't
- 2:17Speaker 4: want to celebrate Christmas, and that's totally okay. But today
- 2:20Speaker 4: we are wrapping the year that was, and talking about
- 2:23Speaker 4: some of our favorite Money Diaries. I'm so excited we
- 2:26Speaker 4: did this last year, and the Money Diary Wrap was
- 2:29Speaker 4: not only a cool episode I think to listen to
- 2:32Speaker 4: I'm biased, but it was so fun to pull together
- 2:35Speaker 4: because you get to like reflect on the year that
- 2:37Speaker 4: was and all of the cool people we've talked to.
- 2:39Speaker 4: And obviously it is no secret that my favorite episode
- 2:41Speaker 4: of literally every single week is always Money Diaries and V.
- 2:45Speaker 5: I feel like I'm even more lucky than you are
- 2:47Speaker 5: because I kind of get to call all of these
- 2:49Speaker 5: people I was about to say women, but actually like
- 2:52Speaker 5: having men. Yes, Like we're not gender specific on this show,
- 2:55Speaker 5: but now I am the she and she's on the
- 2:57Speaker 5: money exactly. But I kind of get to have a
- 2:59Speaker 5: longer chain with all of these incredible community members and
- 3:03Speaker 5: meet them before I spring them on you in the episodes,
- 3:05Speaker 5: and it's everybody's favorite episode.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Let's let's be frank, I reckon it is. Every time
- 3:09Speaker 4: I talk to someone and be like, oh, they're my
- 3:11Speaker 4: favorite episode. I'm not sure if they're just being nice
- 3:13Speaker 4: agreeing with me, but usually they say, oh my gosh,
- 3:16Speaker 4: me too, and I'm.
- 3:16Speaker 5: Like, yes, it's because we are Firstly, we are so pervy,
- 3:20Speaker 5: but we learn through like experience to each other stories.
- 3:23Speaker 5: And sometimes you can be feeling really bad about yourself
- 3:27Speaker 5: and then you hear someone else is having a tricky
- 3:29Speaker 5: time or that they've experienced like maybe they're doing well now,
- 3:32Speaker 5: or that they've had their ups and downs, and you're like, oh, yes,
- 3:35Speaker 5: you know, you just learn so much from it.
- 3:36Speaker 2: So I love talking to these people exactly.
- 3:39Speaker 4: And I think we all love an end of year list,
- 3:42Speaker 4: like I'm list gal at the best of times, love
- 3:44Speaker 4: a spreadsheet, love a plan, love to do anything, And
- 3:48Speaker 4: obviously I love to reflect on I guess the year
- 3:50Speaker 4: that was, but also just really celebrate how kind and
- 3:54Speaker 4: generous our community has been, because these stories aren't easy
- 3:57Speaker 4: to share a lot of the time we're sharing tears
- 3:59Speaker 4: or share laughs, and like it's so special, like how
- 4:03Speaker 4: raw these stories are that we get to learn from.
- 4:06Speaker 4: So I'm super grateful. I feel incredibly privileged to speak
- 4:09Speaker 4: to these beautiful humans on literally a weekly basis. And
- 4:13Speaker 4: I just think that I always learned something new or
- 4:16Speaker 4: gain a different insight, or get reminded of something that
- 4:20Speaker 4: I might not know about yet or might not know about,
- 4:23Speaker 4: you know, or have remembered.
- 4:24Speaker 5: And I love this because I get to force you
- 4:26Speaker 5: to pick four. We do fifty to fifty two, we
- 4:30Speaker 5: do fifty one excluding this episode episode, we technically do fifteen.
- 4:34Speaker 5: We don't say it's the best because they're also so
- 4:37Speaker 5: good in their own way, but like ones that are
- 4:39Speaker 5: just I'm like, I.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Feel like every single week when I talk to a
- 4:41Speaker 4: new money disay literally say to them, oh.
- 4:43Speaker 2: My god, this was the best one I've recorded yet. Yeah,
- 4:45Speaker 2: And next week I'm like, oh my god, no, this
- 4:47Speaker 2: is the best. Like I just can't control myself. So
- 4:50Speaker 2: let's dive into it.
- 4:51Speaker 4: I have the first one to show you, and it
- 4:52Speaker 4: is called Jail Debt and Learning to Be Free.
- 5:00Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:00Speaker 7: Like it said, I grew up in a wealthy family.
- 5:03Speaker 7: I was pretty spoilt, got what I wanted. We'd go
- 5:06Speaker 7: on holidays all the time. And then yeah, when I
- 5:09Speaker 7: was a teenager, I woke up one morning and it
- 5:12Speaker 7: was a police officer waking me up, telling me I
- 5:15Speaker 7: had to go sit in.
- 5:17Speaker 8: Our living room while our house was raided.
- 5:21Speaker 7: And then from that day it was fourteen years until
- 5:25Speaker 7: I saw my dad not behind bus anymore. So this
- 5:30Speaker 7: was super shocking, obviously, and confronting for everyone, mostly I
- 5:34Speaker 7: would say for my mum, because she had no idea
- 5:37Speaker 7: what was going on, like where the extra money was
- 5:40Speaker 7: coming from. So she was just in shock. And everything
- 5:44Speaker 7: was taken away. So the lifestyle of holidays and buying
- 5:48Speaker 7: whatever you want and all of that was taken away,
- 5:50Speaker 7: and we had to learn how to navigate that life
- 5:55Speaker 7: without money. And my mum hadn't worked for a lot
- 6:00Speaker 7: time since when of my last siblings was born, so
- 6:04Speaker 7: that was about ten years.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Wow, So it was.
- 6:07Speaker 7: Going through navigating getting money and going back into the
- 6:11Speaker 7: workforce and raising kids alone.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Oh my god, what is it like having a house raided.
- 6:18Speaker 8: It's not nice.
- 6:19Speaker 2: I can't imagine it being nice.
- 6:21Speaker 4: It's not the number one word that I would have
- 6:23Speaker 4: used confronting, terrifying.
- 6:26Speaker 8: Maybe I wouldn't recommend it for anyone.
- 6:28Speaker 2: One out of ten. Can't recommend it.
- 6:30Speaker 8: Yeah, no, cannot. I would say.
- 6:32Speaker 7: It's scary, Like even thinking about it now, I still
- 6:35Speaker 7: get a bit icky thinking about it all these years later,
- 6:39Speaker 7: and it's like, well, they treated us like we were comminals,
- 6:42Speaker 7: even though we were like little kids and didn't know
- 6:45Speaker 7: anything that was going on. And yeah, they just make
- 6:48Speaker 7: a whole lot of mess and leave it.
- 6:50Speaker 2: And then what happens. What happens when they leave, like
- 6:53Speaker 2: you clean it up or you're not allowed to be there, or.
- 6:55Speaker 7: Yeah, we just had to clean up the mess. And
- 6:58Speaker 7: whatever they took they took. They see a lot of assets, cars, houses,
- 7:03Speaker 7: like all of that, and yeah, we're just clean up
- 7:07Speaker 7: the mess after it actually happened more.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Than once, so more than once.
- 7:12Speaker 8: Yeah, I've been woken up a few times by the police.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 7:15Speaker 4: So you're like, oh, wow, that's a five am knock
- 7:18Speaker 4: on the door, must be the coppers.
- 7:20Speaker 8: Yeah, not ideal, So I wouldn't recommend.
- 7:23Speaker 2: So Annealisa, that was the first cab off the Rang.
- 7:25Speaker 5: Oh my goodness, I remember this woman. It was incredible.
- 7:29Speaker 2: This once from back in February.
- 7:31Speaker 4: I was kind of like an episode that we did
- 7:33Speaker 4: at the start of the year, and I just remember
- 7:34Speaker 4: being like, holy guacamole, Like it's you see this stuff
- 7:38Speaker 4: on the news, like where houses get raided, and like
- 7:41Speaker 4: do you remember this? Obviously not as dramatic, but I
- 7:44Speaker 4: remember like one of the first times that I was like, wow,
- 7:47Speaker 4: they raid rich people's houses was the Melissa Caddic story
- 7:51Speaker 4: about that Dodgy financial advisor, which for like obvious reasons,
- 7:54Speaker 4: I was very invested in understanding. But I just remember
- 7:57Speaker 4: being like, what does the family on the floor I do?
- 8:00Speaker 4: And this was the example of the family had no
- 8:04Speaker 4: idea what was going on, and all of a sudden,
- 8:06Speaker 4: their house is being raided and they're not allowed to
- 8:09Speaker 4: touch anything, and they took all their stuff and it
- 8:11Speaker 4: turns out dad ended up in jail.
- 8:14Speaker 5: This happened several times. The can you imagine like being
- 8:16Speaker 5: a teenager with a kid, with all your kid problems
- 8:18Speaker 5: and teenage problems, and then you get woken up in
- 8:20Speaker 5: the middle of the night and your life changes like that.
- 8:22Speaker 5: I mean. The thing is is that as we talk
- 8:24Speaker 5: about this now, I'm sure that there's other listeners said
- 8:27Speaker 5: bit like.
- 8:27Speaker 4: I've been through that, that's not that weird, Victoria, And
- 8:29Speaker 4: I'm like, yeah, but that's I guess my privilege showing
- 8:31Speaker 4: that thankfully my dad wasn't a fraud stuff. Yeah, it
- 8:34Speaker 4: was incredible, but it was a very spicy story that
- 8:37Speaker 4: I was very privileged to share on the show because obviously,
- 8:41Speaker 4: if you've been in that circumstance, it's not that common
- 8:43Speaker 4: for you to turn around and be like, yeah, no,
- 8:44Speaker 4: I'd love to share that with the world.
- 8:47Speaker 5: Oh absolutely, And I think that you know that Listener
- 8:50Speaker 5: really wanted to dispel some of the stigma and also
- 8:53Speaker 5: show how she totally has lived her life in a
- 8:56Speaker 5: completely different way. She was, I think in the middle
- 8:59Speaker 5: of saving for her wedding and like being working really
- 9:02Speaker 5: really hard and being transparent with her finances and changing
- 9:04Speaker 5: her money story, which is such a.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Way that I don't think anyone would have expected. But
- 9:09Speaker 4: I was so proud of that one and absolutely loved it.
- 9:12Speaker 4: So that was a first cab off the rank to share.
- 9:14Speaker 4: I have another one, Anna Lisa. So this second one
- 9:16Speaker 4: I'm sharing is called setting Boundaries and standing on her
- 9:20Speaker 4: two feet.
- 9:26Speaker 9: I'll start when I was nineteen. I'd just gotten back
- 9:29Speaker 9: from my gap year. I lived abroad for a year
- 9:32Speaker 9: and just had the most wonderful time. Came back and
- 9:36Speaker 9: got straight into UNI, which was sort of the expectation
- 9:39Speaker 9: from my family and where I grew up. I was
- 9:42Speaker 9: studying something that I was really interested in, but not
- 9:46Speaker 9: that passionate about. I was sort of like going through
- 9:48Speaker 9: the motions. And then about a year and a half
- 9:52Speaker 9: into studying, so I was about twenty twenty one, I
- 9:55Speaker 9: started to have memories resurface from my childhood, childhood trauma
- 10:00Speaker 9: that I'd experienced, and that came with, yeah, a lot
- 10:04Speaker 9: of mental distress. So my mental health really plummeted at
- 10:09Speaker 9: that point. And for the first like, yeah, the next
- 10:12Speaker 9: year or so, I tried to keep up with UNI.
- 10:15Speaker 9: I was doing a little bit of counseling, and then
- 10:18Speaker 9: it got to a point where I was like, hold on,
- 10:20Speaker 9: like I really need to Yeah, I really need to
- 10:23Speaker 9: go deeper into this. It's not going away and really
- 10:26Speaker 9: connecting with that belief that I can get better. But yeah,
- 10:30Speaker 9: as I mentioned when I wrote in part of that
- 10:33Speaker 9: recovery journey, has been making a disclosure to my parents
- 10:37Speaker 9: about what I experienced as a child. And unfortunately they
- 10:43Speaker 9: did not respond well to that.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Oh no, yeah.
- 10:46Speaker 4: I'm so sorry that was your experience, because it would
- 10:48Speaker 4: have been hard to even bring it up.
- 10:51Speaker 2: That's not something that I can imagine was easy. Yeah,
- 10:54Speaker 2: it was awful.
- 10:56Speaker 9: It's obviously I wanted to tell them for a long time.
- 11:00Speaker 9: But then yeah, because it's so shrouded in secrecy and
- 11:04Speaker 9: shame and yeah, for such a long time, even like
- 11:08Speaker 9: the biggest part of the recovery was like understanding that
- 11:12Speaker 9: it wasn't my fault, and yeah, obviously, like spending all
- 11:16Speaker 9: those years believing that it was my fault. I couldn't
- 11:19Speaker 9: even come to terms with telling my parents because yeah,
- 11:23Speaker 9: if I thought it was my fault, then obviously they
- 11:25Speaker 9: would too. But yeah, unfortunately I didn't get a positive
- 11:30Speaker 9: response from them, And that sort of yeah led to
- 11:33Speaker 9: me making the decision, with support from my counselors and
- 11:36Speaker 9: my support team, to create some yeah wall like boundaries
- 11:43Speaker 9: towards them, and yeah, have to cut them off.
- 11:47Speaker 4: That one was I thought about that for days after
- 11:51Speaker 4: listening to that, and I just I remember when I
- 11:54Speaker 4: did that, I was pregnant.
- 11:56Speaker 2: I knew I was pregnant. I don't think i'd shared
- 11:59Speaker 2: it with the world at.
- 11:59Speaker 4: That point, and I just remember being like, I always
- 12:03Speaker 4: want to be a safe space for my child. I
- 12:05Speaker 4: cannot imagine, you know, a child coming to their parents
- 12:08Speaker 4: and them not being believed about such a significant trauma
- 12:11Speaker 4: happening to them. And I wanted to pick up our
- 12:14Speaker 4: diarist and hug them and like make it better. And
- 12:16Speaker 4: obviously that's like not the answer. It's what I guess instinctually,
- 12:21Speaker 4: you want to do, but it's not the answer. And
- 12:23Speaker 4: I just remember going, this is so powerful to share
- 12:25Speaker 4: with our community because so many people go through circumstances
- 12:29Speaker 4: like this and they just stay quiet because they're so
- 12:31Speaker 4: worried about rocking the boat too much or upsetting someone,
- 12:36Speaker 4: or it happened so long ago. What's the point? And
- 12:38Speaker 4: our diarist really showed that she got through it. She
- 12:41Speaker 4: made some very healthy boundaries, some very wall like boundaries,
- 12:45Speaker 4: I believe she called them in the episode, and she's
- 12:48Speaker 4: thriving because of it, Like we all deserve to thrive,
- 12:52Speaker 4: and if it means going through arguably a very awkward
- 12:56Speaker 4: conversation where the conversation doesn't land where you think it
- 13:00Speaker 4: should or it actually should, Yeah, that you can steal
- 13:03Speaker 4: back yourself And I think I just thought that was
- 13:05Speaker 4: so important to me to share that and go, no, like,
- 13:08Speaker 4: you are worth more. You're worth more than people not
- 13:11Speaker 4: believing your story, Like I just yeah.
- 13:14Speaker 5: That really shartbreaking and also so empowering. I mean, what
- 13:18Speaker 5: I took away from that episode was that Diarist wrote
- 13:21Speaker 5: in saying, I feel like I am behind everyone on
- 13:24Speaker 5: my savings. I don't have any investments, I have these debts.
- 13:27Speaker 5: I'm behind with you. Well, like it took me, so
- 13:29Speaker 5: I spent so much money on studying because I was
- 13:31Speaker 5: once I was uncovering this trauma, I was stopped starting,
- 13:34Speaker 5: stop starting my degree, and then I had to take
- 13:36Speaker 5: time off it to work and try and take care
- 13:39Speaker 5: of my mental health. And your message to her was
- 13:42Speaker 5: you are not behind. Look at all of this work
- 13:46Speaker 5: that you've done to.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Set up these boundaries and.
- 13:49Speaker 5: Now this money stuff like this will sort out because
- 13:51Speaker 5: you are on the right track because you've done this
- 13:54Speaker 5: really really hard ground with the deep.
- 13:56Speaker 4: Work that needed to happen, and like, if it didn't happen,
- 13:58Speaker 4: now it's what ends up burning people out and having
- 14:02Speaker 4: them end up honestly having to take years off work,
- 14:06Speaker 4: not being able to do what they want to do
- 14:08Speaker 4: because finally that stuff they were repressing it catches up
- 14:12Speaker 4: with them.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:13Speaker 5: Absolutely, it's oh gosh, And I still occasionally think about
- 14:18Speaker 5: that diarist and anyone out there in that situation.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Oh, it actually kills me.
- 14:23Speaker 4: But yeah, I was really really proud of her, really
- 14:25Speaker 4: proud of her story that happened in August, and I
- 14:29Speaker 4: just wanted to remind people that it was their really
- 14:31Speaker 4: great story and honestly, a really beautiful message of backing yourself.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Let's go to a really quick break on the flip side.
- 14:38Speaker 2: I have two of them, one from January and one from.
- 14:40Speaker 4: October to share with you, So guys don't go anywhere,
- 14:49Speaker 4: all right, an Lisa, we are back and this has
- 14:51Speaker 4: been so nice.
- 14:53Speaker 2: I'm gonna feel so emotionally.
- 14:54Speaker 4: Heavy after this episode because we're recapping all of these
- 14:58Speaker 4: beautiful episodes that I feel like had a massive impact
- 15:01Speaker 4: on our community this year.
- 15:03Speaker 2: I have another one for you. Are you ready? Oh,
- 15:05Speaker 2: I'm ready. I'm loving this to be all right.
- 15:07Speaker 4: So this one is called one Step at a Time
- 15:09Speaker 4: after losing the love of her life.
- 15:11Speaker 5: Oh I remember this one?
- 15:12Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 15:17Speaker 10: But yeah, I got my situation together. I was lucky
- 15:20Speaker 10: enough to meet my partner, and my partner is really
- 15:22Speaker 10: financially minded. He loves talking about it, which is great
- 15:25Speaker 10: because it wasn't a thing that I had anyone to
- 15:27Speaker 10: speak to about before. He loves talking about all things money,
- 15:31Speaker 10: and so we just had this really lots of discussions
- 15:34Speaker 10: and we just well to grow together.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Did he grow up in a lower income household or
- 15:38Speaker 2: like what was his money story?
- 15:40Speaker 10: Like, I wouldn't say that was a lower income household.
- 15:43Speaker 10: But he was one of many children and so you
- 15:46Speaker 10: know that has a lot of costs associated with.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Having Budgeting comes into playing when you have multiple children.
- 15:51Speaker 10: And I know his parents did have times, but they
- 15:54Speaker 10: had quite a lot of financial pressures. But generally speaking,
- 15:56Speaker 10: they were quite Their parents were quite educated out about money.
- 15:59Speaker 10: His grandfather was quite educated about money, and so this
- 16:02Speaker 10: sort of filtered down to him, and so he was
- 16:04Speaker 10: varying with his money. He was very frugal.
- 16:06Speaker 2: What a catch. Oh my gosh, Yes, she is on
- 16:10Speaker 2: the money dream boat.
- 16:11Speaker 10: Yes, yes, definitely.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:13Speaker 10: So I was in an Leigan position and we were
- 16:15Speaker 10: looking at buying a house because we were both earning
- 16:19Speaker 10: over six figures. We both had decent savings. He also
- 16:22Speaker 10: had quite a lot of investments that he at that
- 16:24Speaker 10: time was ready to pull out and you know, just
- 16:26Speaker 10: pay off a substantial part of the Morgan you know,
- 16:29Speaker 10: deposit upfront.
- 16:30Speaker 4: And he was twenty eight and he's got investments, six
- 16:33Speaker 4: weekly income.
- 16:34Speaker 2: He was getting it done.
- 16:35Speaker 10: And he had his own side hustle business as well.
- 16:37Speaker 10: So just sixty to absolute king about and I decided
- 16:41Speaker 10: I wanted a career change at that point, so I
- 16:44Speaker 10: resigned from my job at that time. But I wasn't
- 16:47Speaker 10: concerned about that because in the work that I do
- 16:50Speaker 10: in the industry I am, there's a lot of opportunities,
- 16:52Speaker 10: so I wasn't too concerned about that. However, literally a
- 16:55Speaker 10: couple of days after I finished it up there he
- 16:58Speaker 10: passed away in an accident. So all of a sudden,
- 17:02Speaker 10: we are just a world imploded.
- 17:04Speaker 2: And yeah, and Alia that one killed me.
- 17:08Speaker 5: Oh my goodness.
- 17:09Speaker 4: They had their entire life ahead of them and it
- 17:13Speaker 4: got ripped away in an accident. Yeah, it's the story
- 17:16Speaker 4: of like oh it or never happened to me, it's
- 17:19Speaker 4: the story of that always happens to other people. Definitely
- 17:21Speaker 4: not asked, definitely not me, and to me really drove
- 17:25Speaker 4: home the importance of financial literacy for everybody in the
- 17:29Speaker 4: relationship and making sure that you have all of your
- 17:32Speaker 4: ducks in a row when it comes to personal insurances
- 17:35Speaker 4: and knowing what that looks like. And thankfully she was
- 17:39Speaker 4: a very intelligent woman. But it's just it was such
- 17:43Speaker 4: a story that I just went, oh my gosh, like
- 17:45Speaker 4: I cannot believe you're going through this.
- 17:47Speaker 5: I remember crying on the phone when I was speaking
- 17:50Speaker 5: to this money darist. And I also My memories of
- 17:53Speaker 5: it too is that she was particularly savvy with her
- 17:55Speaker 5: situation and had stuff set up, but there was some
- 17:58Speaker 5: sort of little clause in her insurances that meant that
- 18:01Speaker 5: because she'd taken some stress leave, yeah, that they were like, oh,
- 18:07Speaker 5: you have to wait for the payout, and it took
- 18:09Speaker 5: a really, really long time.
- 18:11Speaker 4: It broke my heart, but I was also so proud
- 18:13Speaker 4: of her because to go through that and come out
- 18:16Speaker 4: the other side, like she was still obviously grieving and
- 18:18Speaker 4: going through the motions, but she just had such a
- 18:21Speaker 4: plan and you could tell that she was going to
- 18:23Speaker 4: live this really beautiful life.
- 18:25Speaker 5: And from memory she she when we spoke to her,
- 18:28Speaker 5: she was starting to get back to work.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Yeah she was.
- 18:31Speaker 4: She was like her finally dick inched corner like tee
- 18:33Speaker 4: in the water and trying to get there.
- 18:34Speaker 2: And you just know I should check up on them.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Actually we should do like next year obviously no pressure
- 18:40Speaker 4: and ELSA, but like, are where are they now? For
- 18:43Speaker 4: our earlier diarists, that would be great, All right, let's
- 18:45Speaker 4: try and organize that, But that's not the plan for today.
- 18:48Speaker 4: The plan for today is to share our final money.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Diary with you. For I guess our wrap of twenty
- 18:53Speaker 2: twenty three.
- 18:54Speaker 5: The Diaries that Shook Us in twenty twenty three. There
- 18:57Speaker 5: were so many.
- 18:57Speaker 4: These ones from October and it is cool turning life
- 19:01Speaker 4: around after addiction, and this is one of my faves.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Honestly, I'm just so proud.
- 19:10Speaker 4: Can you tell me a bit more about what that
- 19:13Speaker 4: gateway was like, because obviously, going from you know, the
- 19:16Speaker 4: short money story we've heard of, like yep, I was
- 19:18Speaker 4: getting up for him milking the cows, I was getting
- 19:21Speaker 4: paid in livestock all the way through to look twenty
- 19:24Speaker 4: one twenty two, I got mixed up in some stuff
- 19:27Speaker 4: that you know, I'm sure you wish you didn't, But
- 19:30Speaker 4: how did that happen?
- 19:31Speaker 11: It was actually my family, so I was around it
- 19:35Speaker 11: for two years before I actually tried it. I went
- 19:40Speaker 11: into the wrong pathway from family influence. I think they
- 19:43Speaker 11: all feel pretty bad about that, but we were all
- 19:46Speaker 11: in a bad situation and we're thankfully all of us
- 19:49Speaker 11: out of.
- 19:49Speaker 6: That now too.
- 19:50Speaker 12: Love love to hear that, yeah for us, But yeah,
- 19:54Speaker 12: so it was the wrong pathway to go down, and
- 19:57Speaker 12: I happened to get into the wrong place, wrong time,
- 20:00Speaker 12: good family, and we're all looking up now. So what
- 20:04Speaker 12: did that look like when it came to I guess
- 20:06Speaker 12: your money story. Obviously, when you're purchasing substances like that,
- 20:11Speaker 12: they're not cheap. How did you fund that? What did
- 20:13Speaker 12: that look like?
- 20:14Speaker 11: So there's like friends or friends, You've got different platforms
- 20:19Speaker 11: where you can find it, and people just want to
- 20:21Speaker 11: hang out with you and.
- 20:23Speaker 6: Supply the drugs. Majority of those are men.
- 20:26Speaker 11: Unfortunately, yep, I had a sugar daddy too, so.
- 20:30Speaker 4: He was This is going to be the spiciest money story.
- 20:33Speaker 4: I cannot wait to dissect this even more so.
- 20:37Speaker 6: He was involved in the drug game too.
- 20:39Speaker 11: I just love to spend time with young females and
- 20:43Speaker 11: supplying as much drugs as you could.
- 20:45Speaker 6: He was pretty well off.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Where does your work life balance come into that? You've
- 20:49Speaker 4: mentioned you've got a young child. They're in daycare and
- 20:53Speaker 4: kinder You, you know, are driving forty five minutes each
- 20:56Speaker 4: way from work. You're doing side hustles on the weekend.
- 20:58Speaker 4: Do you have a personal life like dating? What's going
- 21:01Speaker 4: on there?
- 21:02Speaker 6: I'm in an actual polyamory relationship.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Okay, didn't see that coming.
- 21:07Speaker 6: Yeah, So I have a girlfriend, she has a partner, yep,
- 21:10Speaker 6: And I.
- 21:11Speaker 11: Can date if I like to, but not really interested
- 21:13Speaker 11: in it. We've been together nearly two years now.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Oh very cool.
- 21:18Speaker 4: Can I be real pervy and ask about how the
- 21:20Speaker 4: dynamics of that work? What does that actually look like?
- 21:22Speaker 4: So if your girlfriend has a partner, do they live
- 21:25Speaker 4: full time together?
- 21:26Speaker 2: Like, how do you interact? What does that look like?
- 21:29Speaker 11: She has a primary other, they live together, they're engaged.
- 21:34Speaker 6: But we all get along really well. It was a
- 21:35Speaker 6: bumpy at the start.
- 21:37Speaker 11: I go up to their house and I stay all
- 21:38Speaker 11: the time, and my daughter stays in their spare room.
- 21:41Speaker 6: We get along really good. It works really well.
- 21:44Speaker 2: How good? This was one of my favorites of the year.
- 21:49Speaker 4: I'm not gonna lie the transformation that you just got
- 21:52Speaker 4: to see unfold. I feel like I didn't even know
- 21:55Speaker 4: what to expect. Every two seconds, like it just it changed.
- 21:59Speaker 4: We were just like, wait, what how I'm like her
- 22:02Speaker 4: money diary when she wrote in obviously outlined the like
- 22:07Speaker 4: big milestones of the diary, but it definitely did not
- 22:10Speaker 4: tell us as many twists and turns as she shared,
- 22:13Speaker 4: And I was super grateful because she was so open.
- 22:17Speaker 4: Like these topics, especially drug addiction, are often trouded with shame,
- 22:21Speaker 4: and you hide it and if you've moved on from it,
- 22:23Speaker 4: you don't really want to go back to that place
- 22:25Speaker 4: to talk about it. And she just provided so many beautiful,
- 22:29Speaker 4: valuable insights for our community to learn from that made
- 22:33Speaker 4: me just go, wow, you are one special human being.
- 22:37Speaker 4: To go from deep drug addiction to finding out you
- 22:41Speaker 4: are pregnant and cold Turkey, Cold Turkey is hard at
- 22:45Speaker 4: the best of times, but she did it. And now
- 22:47Speaker 4: she is this incredible mother that shows up for her baby,
- 22:51Speaker 4: is living her best life, you know, has this really
- 22:53Speaker 4: healthy relationship that she's really proud of. I'm just I
- 22:57Speaker 4: mean awe of how people can actually transfer form their
- 23:00Speaker 4: own lives and for the better.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Like you just go wow, that's it's just so impressive.
- 23:05Speaker 4: And to me it was a really beautiful, I don't
- 23:07Speaker 4: know note to finish this conversation on to go analysa.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Isn't that beautiful?
- 23:12Speaker 5: It's amazing? And then to find love in a polyamorous relationship.
- 23:15Speaker 5: And I remember when we aired that episode that actually
- 23:18Speaker 5: sparked a big a conversation in our community about people.
- 23:22Speaker 5: Other people got in touch kind of behind the scenes,
- 23:24Speaker 5: and I think we had something in one of our
- 23:25Speaker 5: Friday about the financials of polyamory people who read those
- 23:29Speaker 5: sorts of relationships and yeah, I know it wasn't so interesting.
- 23:32Speaker 2: We're just sharing it because it's part of our community.
- 23:34Speaker 4: Absolutely, there is no judgment in this house, Like I
- 23:37Speaker 4: don't care what you do. As long as it is
- 23:39Speaker 4: respectful and as long as it is consensual, I could.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Not care less.
- 23:42Speaker 5: Yeah, they're the two boxes to tick.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Baby, you want to tell me about it, cool, I'll listen.
- 23:47Speaker 2: I'd love to know about it.
- 23:48Speaker 4: Let me ask some perfect questions though, because sometimes, because
- 23:51Speaker 4: I've got no experience in this, I'd just like to
- 23:53Speaker 4: know how that works, especially finances, like when it comes
- 23:56Speaker 4: to a polyamorous relationship, are you kidding?
- 23:59Speaker 2: I do want to know how you split your budget.
- 24:01Speaker 2: I already know how hard it is to split between
- 24:03Speaker 2: two people. How are you doing that with three or more?
- 24:05Speaker 1: Yea.
- 24:05Speaker 2: So it's really pervy, but really beautiful. But you're right.
- 24:08Speaker 4: A lot of people reached out behind the scenes and
- 24:10Speaker 4: they were like, oh, v I'm in a polyamorous relationship.
- 24:12Speaker 4: Haven't told my family or haven't told my friends. But
- 24:15Speaker 4: it was just so nice to see that featured in
- 24:18Speaker 4: mainstream media. Not that with that mainstream, but in a
- 24:21Speaker 4: media platform that I already consume and.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Just know that this is a safe place for me.
- 24:26Speaker 4: And I was like, I wish I had thought of
- 24:28Speaker 4: bringing this to the show before it was brought to
- 24:31Speaker 4: me by a community member. And obviously that's a really
- 24:34Speaker 4: good lesson to me that I need to really think
- 24:36Speaker 4: about what other stories are we going to share in
- 24:38Speaker 4: twenty twenty four? What does you know the future of
- 24:41Speaker 4: Money Diaries look like? Because it is such a privilege,
- 24:45Speaker 4: as I've said before, but such a beautiful opportunity to
- 24:49Speaker 4: share so many diverse stories, not only so that you
- 24:52Speaker 4: and I and a Lisa can learn from it, because
- 24:54Speaker 4: like we're very boring at the end of the day,
- 24:58Speaker 4: like we're not that interesting now, but there are so
- 25:01Speaker 4: many beautiful stories in our community that we can learn from,
- 25:04Speaker 4: but also so many beautiful stories that can be shared
- 25:08Speaker 4: so everybody feels heard and feels validated and feels like no, no, no,
- 25:12Speaker 4: like my story is normal, my story is part of
- 25:15Speaker 4: the mix.
- 25:15Speaker 5: It's oh yeah, and you know I can guarantee you.
- 25:19Speaker 5: You know, I know you're not a gambling woman either,
- 25:20Speaker 5: are my vibit again? A thousand bucks? Someone was into
- 25:26Speaker 5: the episode and going oh, having to wake up at
- 25:28Speaker 5: five am to milk cows don't relate to that, but
- 25:30Speaker 5: do relate to the polyamory or vice versa, you know
- 25:33Speaker 5: what I mean, Every combination of everything can relate to
- 25:36Speaker 5: being a reformed drug user or maybe someone who's at
- 25:38Speaker 5: the start of that journey of trying to you know,
- 25:41Speaker 5: trying to quit and see figure that out, or I
- 25:43Speaker 5: think my favorite way of getting through it.
- 25:45Speaker 2: One hundred percent.
- 25:46Speaker 4: I think one of my favorite parts of that was
- 25:47Speaker 4: just how enamored with life she was. She was just like,
- 25:50Speaker 4: I'm so happy. I'm just I'm living my best life.
- 25:53Speaker 4: I have this gorgeous daughter, I have this beautiful life.
- 25:56Speaker 4: You know, my finances are on track.
- 25:58Speaker 5: SI hustle too.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Oh yes, she's real quack the money queen, yep.
- 26:02Speaker 4: But I thought that that was a pretty good way
- 26:05Speaker 4: Anna Lisa to wrap the year out.
- 26:06Speaker 2: That was I feel like we all leave on a
- 26:08Speaker 2: high going. Yes she did. We are so proud of that.
- 26:11Speaker 4: But we're so proud of every single money diary that
- 26:14Speaker 4: goes on the show. But also, I guess thank you
- 26:16Speaker 4: to everybody who's also reach out to share their diary.
- 26:19Speaker 4: We get so many submissions and Unfortunately they don't all
- 26:23Speaker 4: make the show because as we know, there's only fifty
- 26:26Speaker 4: one episodes a year that we can do. But we
- 26:29Speaker 4: try our best, I promise, and we always get back
- 26:31Speaker 4: to you. But it's one of those things that I
- 26:33Speaker 4: just I'm in awe consistently with how many generous souls
- 26:36Speaker 4: within our community who want to share and want to
- 26:39Speaker 4: teach others.
- 26:41Speaker 5: And what a Christmas gift you've wrapped up for us
- 26:43Speaker 5: on this episode, V. How gorgeous.
- 26:45Speaker 2: I love it.
- 26:45Speaker 4: I can't think of a better way to celebrate Christmas
- 26:47Speaker 4: than with money diaries. Honestly, again a little bit biased,
- 26:50Speaker 4: but that's okay.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Guys, have the best rest of.
- 26:53Speaker 4: The day, and we will see you on Wednesday, because
- 26:56Speaker 4: the hustle doesn't stop, guys, The hustle does not stop.
- 26:59Speaker 5: Bye.
