Latest / Peace in a Pod / ✨Breaking Free: Growth Over Comfort
Transcript
- 0:00Hey, hey, soul tribe, welcome to peace in the pie.
- 0:04I am Loretta and thank you guys for tuning in today.
- 0:09So I was doing a little thinking about the choices we have every
- 0:14day and every day that we wake up, we have two choices comfort
- 0:23or growth. And when you think about what
- 0:31comfort is, I mean, obviously it it the definition, it's, it's
- 0:35comfortable. Why would you?
- 0:37Why would you not want to choose comfort?
- 0:40But comfort feels good now. It's like a temporary
- 0:47satisfaction, but it stills your future.
- 0:54If you think about it, you're staying comfortable.
- 0:58So you're not willing to step out of your comfort zone to grow
- 1:04and do a little more or be a little more.
- 1:08You're kind of keeping yourself in a little bubble and you're
- 1:13holding yourself back when you choose comfort.
- 1:16I mean, it's good for that moment, but for long term you're
- 1:24you're kind of holding yourself back from from growth.
- 1:29Growth can be uncomfortable and sometimes it hurts, but it
- 1:34builds something real inside of you.
- 1:41When you think about growth and what you have to go through, it
- 1:50can be a little scary because, for example, you want a change
- 1:54in pace in your job and you see a few options out there, but you
- 2:01don't want to necessarily change the work that you do.
- 2:05You just want to change the environment that you're in.
- 2:10So you choose comfort and only apply for the jobs that is the
- 2:16same work that you've been doing.
- 2:19So you're not really growing in that field.
- 2:22You're just staying comfortable and just moving from one place
- 2:25to the next. And you're kind of holding
- 2:28yourself back when you do that. And if that's, you know, if you
- 2:31don't want to change anything, you don't have to.
- 2:35But if you are the type of person who looks for growth, you
- 2:38want to be better, know more, you know, keep expanding, then
- 2:45applying for the same exact type of role with that doesn't have
- 2:52any potential for growth, only holds you back.
- 2:56It steals you, steals your future from you.
- 3:01So if you're someone who wants to keep expanding, you want to
- 3:04keep evolving and growing as an individual, then looking for a
- 3:10job where there's an opportunity for progression promotion would
- 3:15probably be a little bit more suitable.
- 3:20And you would take the growth route because you want to
- 3:23expand. You want a a long term
- 3:29satisfaction rather than a temporary satisfaction.
- 3:33And you know in the long term you'll be able to progress down
- 3:36the line to something better or higher or more beneficial.
- 3:43And once you take that chance on yourself and want more for
- 3:48yourself, you'll be happy that you chose the growth over
- 3:54comfort and the growth. Like I said earlier, the growth
- 3:58can be uncomfortable, but it's uncomfortable for a short period
- 4:02of time because once you learn all the new stuff that you need
- 4:07to know in this new job, you're good.
- 4:10And then when you feel comfortable and experienced
- 4:13enough to where you can progress to the next level, then you'll
- 4:17do so. But you don't want to put
- 4:21yourself in a position where you want to grow, but then you're
- 4:24too scared of what the growth might look like that you just
- 4:27keep choosing comfort, comfort, comfort and nothing ever
- 4:30changes. You just stay where you are for
- 4:3310-15 years. And maybe you know a pay raise
- 4:38every now and then, but you don't want.
- 4:41All I'm saying is you don't want to put yourself in a position
- 4:43where you're holding yourself back because of fear.
- 4:49You're afraid of what the unknown will be and it keeps you
- 4:55stagnant. I'm the type of person I I have
- 5:02always spoke on going after what I feel like I deserve, and I
- 5:08think I've surprised quite a few people over the years, including
- 5:13myself a few times on some things.
- 5:16So there was this job I had that I felt like I could do better.
- 5:29The environment was a little rough, like passive aggressive
- 5:34supervisors, just there was no growth.
- 5:41I knew once I got to a certain level, then I would kind of be,
- 5:45I would be stuck to be honest with you.
- 5:47There was, there was, it was kind of, it was the environment
- 5:50where people had to retire in order for you to go any higher.
- 5:56That's the only way to really put it.
- 5:59So I knew at some point I had to move around.
- 6:04So I decided to start applying for other jobs and I informed my
- 6:11supervisor of my intentions and I, you know, told the
- 6:18leadership, all the leadership, Hey, this is what my plan is.
- 6:21This is what I'm going to do. I told my coworkers that were on
- 6:24my team. Hey, this is, this is what I'm,
- 6:26I'm, I'm working on guys. So just be prepared to take on,
- 6:30you know, the extra workload. So anyways, I applied for these
- 6:34jobs and I, I, I started cleaning out my cubicle like
- 6:44months before I even got a job. Like literally like I took stuff
- 6:50off the walls, out of the cabinets, drawers, everything.
- 6:52I packed that stuff up and slowly started taking it home.
- 6:56And I was at that time, I was applying for a remote position.
- 7:00So I packed up my entire cubicle, brought all that stuff
- 7:05home. And I remember when my husband
- 7:10saw the, the boxes of stuff, he was just like, oh, so you got a
- 7:16new job? And I was like, no, not yet.
- 7:22But I knew that I wanted to grow further and learn more, do more,
- 7:28gain more experience and, and knowledge and not just be stuck
- 7:35in that bubble of where I was. So I kind of set my mind and
- 7:41desire on I'm getting a new job. I will make it happen.
- 7:46I'm, I'm going to apply for as many jobs as I need to, if
- 7:53that's what it takes for me to, to get the one that I need to
- 7:55get to the next level. So I, you know, shortly after I
- 8:01brought all my stuff home, I, I did actually get a job.
- 8:06I, I interviewed and like nailed it, got it.
- 8:09And within about a month, probably about, I would say
- 8:17about two months or so of me clearing out my cubicle, I ended
- 8:22up starting the new job, which was I, I'm being honest with
- 8:27you, I shocked myself at how fast it happened because I was
- 8:31very determined. And I said that in my, my heart
- 8:35and soul that I was leaving that place and I was going to
- 8:38progress. And that job ended up being a
- 8:40promotion. I did learn a lot, but the
- 8:44environment was not any better. So I ended up getting a win in
- 8:50one area, but you know, it got worse in another area.
- 8:54But I, I did learn a lot, not only about the, the, the field
- 9:01that I was in, but it, it definitely opened my eyes to
- 9:05different areas that I felt like I wasn't going to ever
- 9:08experience in the previous job that I, that I chose to leave
- 9:14now when I left that job. True story, when I left,
- 9:22everyone else on the team also decided to leave.
- 9:30And I I started noticing this pattern that when I when I join
- 9:42an environment, I start making like waves, but not necessarily
- 9:51in a bad way. I tend to bring light to areas
- 9:55where people don't pay much attention to and I have this way
- 10:03of influencing people even when I'm not trying.
- 10:08I'm just doing me, being me, making decisions that are good
- 10:13for me and it tends to influence people around me and kind of
- 10:19shed some light in some areas for them.
- 10:21And that's not my intent. I literally have just living my
- 10:25life and sharing my thoughts and then some kind of way it tends
- 10:30to spread out and inspire other people.
- 10:35So with that being said, when I chose to leave and did leave,
- 10:43the other people on that team in that job slowly started leaving
- 10:49as well. Like probably a month or so
- 10:52after me one of the other individuals left the team and
- 10:58then maybe a couple weeks after her the the other person left
- 11:03and the team was literally left with no worker bees, only the
- 11:07supervisor. And I was kind of shocked how
- 11:13everybody else left as well. But then I was just like, good
- 11:17for you guys. Yes, you all deserve better.
- 11:19And everybody who left all ended up in a higher paying position.
- 11:25So without me actually trying to encourage or inspire people, me
- 11:33just being myself, I some kind of way have the ability to just
- 11:43shed light in areas that people are not paying attention to.
- 11:48And I don't know exactly how I do it, but I am happy that I can
- 11:52encourage and inspire other people to go after things that
- 11:59will help them be a better version of themselves or help
- 12:02them get to more and better for their lives.
- 12:08I just want to experience this earth in my happiest, freest
- 12:16state and the only way that I can do that is to choose me.
- 12:22And by me choosing me, I choose to grow, learn and experience
- 12:28the world and not stay in my comfort zone because I want long
- 12:36term satisfaction and I know that I can't get that from my
- 12:41comfort zone. I don't even know why I'm
- 12:43getting all emotional about it, but I know that this world was
- 12:51meant to be experienced as a happy, free human being.
- 13:01And the only way to do that is to grow, to experience the
- 13:05world. And you can't do that from your
- 13:10comfort zone anyways. So when when you wake up
- 13:15tomorrow, think about do you want to grow or do you want to
- 13:22stay comfortable? The choice is always yours.
- 13:28We all have free will. And on that note, I'm going to
