  in mind, keeping in mind that the the criminal mastermind, in

  my opinion anyway, really doesn't exist.

  They're they're they're few and far between, right?

  They, they are the the Holy Grail of criminals.

  There just aren't that many. There are some that aren't all

  that smart, but they know the rules, right?

  They're like, we never talk. We never, you know that.

  And they're, I guess they are disciplined.

  Maybe that's it. But not a lot of smart criminals

  out there. Of course, you know, maybe we

  only capture the dumb ones and maybe there are tons of smart

  criminals out there. But when I see pictures like

  like the like this one where there's a be masked fellow with

  a flashlight in his mouth and a handful of shrubbery that he

  just picked out of the front yard of the house that he is now
• 7:40
  attempting to enter and indeed will successfully do shortly
• 7:45
  after this photo was taken, I think this guy isn't all that
• 7:51
  bright. Doesn't seem all that bright.

  And so OK, let's let's go back over to oh, OK, let's talk about

  the camera. OK, let's talk about the camera.

  In fact, I think on my thumbnail I said the camera wasn't an
• 8:08
  accident. And I'm talking about this
• 8:10
  moment right here where he's got, he's got some greenery,
• 8:15
  some shrubbery, and he is going to, he's trying to, I think,
• 8:22
  just obscure the camera. He might be trying to use it as,
• 8:27
  like, to put it behind the camera and pull the camera off
• 8:30
  of the wall perhaps. I don't know what it is that
• 8:33
  he's doing here other than, I mean, he just, yeah, it just
• 8:38
  doesn't seem all that smart. But there have been a story
• 8:46
  after story after story about investigators talking about
• 8:52
  Internet disruptions. And I think that this was

  planned out, that there was an Internet disruption that night
• 9:07
  and that, I don't know, maybe he just got a little bit nervous.

  Is it possible he just kind of got a little bit nervous?

  It's like, OK, you know, I've, you'd think that he'd bring a

  tool in that Ozark backpack that he was wearing, you know, some
• 9:23
  paint or some tape or something to pry it off the wall.

  But I think with the Internet outage, maybe he is just

  thinking, you know, this doesn't really matter because I'm not

  captured on this anyway because it's not connected to the
• 9:37
  Internet. Which also kind of shows me the

  whole idea that this person doesn't know a lot about
• 9:44
  cashing, doesn't understand that things are stored locally before
• 9:48
  they are, they're transmitted, you know, and when the Internet
• 9:55
  connection does inevitably come back, it will be uploaded.

  You know, I don't know. I, I, I just, I'm, I'm caught

  between two thoughts here. Either this guy is smart enough

  to get away with this, which he has for 87 days, or he's a dill

  hole and is, you know, just doesn't, doesn't know what to

  do. And in my opinion, I think

  between those two things, yeah, I think he probably had this

  really well planned out. That's just what I thought.

  So, you know, NBC reported that investigators were asking

  neighbors about Internet disruptions.

  Fox News had a long discussion on Wi-Fi jammer theory,

  limitations of RF jammers. News Nation even had a tech CEO

  explaining how signal jammers work there.

  There was the report of the utility box that was that was

  damaged or broken into. There's just there, there's tons
• 11:07
  of, I guess clues to or that would indicate to us that even
• 11:14
  though this guy is like on video trying to use leaves and

  branches and such to to cover up or or pry off or do something to
• 11:25
  that nest camera. The fact remains that we're 87

  days later and I don't think we're closer.

  our life that I would describe, and I'm not going to lump

  Kimberly into this because she is Steady Eddie, but it, it was

  me driving it and it was a, it was at a time where just the

  economy was booming, real estate prices were going crazy.

  We were, we had come out of the Internet bubble, you know, the

  the.com, thesocalled.com bubble of the of the early 2000s and we

  were just doing really well. And we decided that we would
• 59:06
  sell our business that was a successful operating business in
• 59:10
  in Sacramento and we would start a new one.
• 59:14
  And we did it in Reno, NV and it was a business that we knew
• 59:20
  nothing about. And this isn't half of the
• 59:25
  story, isn't my story to tell. So I'm I'm going to leave out a
• 59:28
  lot of a lot of details. But anyway, we, we failed
• 59:33
  disastrously and colossally at that business in Reno.
• 59:39
  And when, when that all kind of exploded or imploded, we, you
• 59:49
  know, found ourselves living in A and we, we bought it.
• 59:52
  We probably shouldn't have, but we bought this little townhouse
• 59:56
  in a really bad area of Reno. And, you know, Kimberly was
• 1:00:03
  teaching so many fitness classes every week.
• 1:00:06
  Plus she was working graveyard shifts at like a Denny's waiting
• 1:00:12
  tables and maybe just the worst part of Reno.
• 1:00:18
  And then I was working. A day job trying to be a
• 1:00:23
  mortgage banker and not doing very well at it.
• 1:00:26
  And then at night on the four nights that she was home, I
• 1:00:32
  drove cab and limo. It was it was hard, hard work.
• 1:00:41
  We were constantly tired. We hardly ever really got to
• 1:00:45
  spend any time with one another. Our fortunately our children
• 1:00:49
  always had a parent with them right, because Kimberly teaching
• 1:00:54
  at the club, she could take the kids with her to the club and
• 1:00:56
  while she was doing her classes they could be in the little
• 1:01:00
  childcare they were playing, you know, having a good time and
• 1:01:02
  then she could take them swimming afterwards and those
• 1:01:05
  kinds of things. So there was always a parent
• 1:01:07
  when when I would not work those three nights and she would work
• 1:01:14
  those three nights, I was home to put the kids in bed and, you
• 1:01:16
  know, get them bathed and do all that stuff.
• 1:01:19
  And we were just talking about this.
• 1:01:21
  She just got home today. And that was our biggest
• 1:01:25
  failure. But it was, it may have been our
• 1:01:31
  most important one to us because it demonstrated to us, and this
• 1:01:38
  is just me talking from my perspective, I'm sure Kimberly
• 1:01:42
  would agree. But it demonstrated to us that
• 1:01:45
  Kimberly and I are 100% committed to one another.
• 1:01:48
  And as a team, we are 100% committed to our children, to
• 1:01:53
  our family. And there was never even through
• 1:01:57
  all of that hardship where we're we're barely making it and we're
• 1:02:02
  both just working so hard. And I mean, I used to, I, I had
• 1:02:09
  a truck that had ACD player that I burned 2 songs onto.
• 1:02:15
  And those were the only songs that I listened to for maybe 2
• 1:02:19
  years. That and it was Tom Petty, I
• 1:02:23
  won't back down and Simon and Garfunkel the boxer.

  And I would cry as I was driving to work.
• 1:02:34
  I would cry. I won't and I'm not giving up.
• 1:02:37
  I will not back down, right. And, and those lyrics, right
• 1:02:42
  where Paul Simon just beautifully describes, you know,

  the, you know, the boxer who, who, what, I can't remember the
• 1:02:55
  lyric perfectly, but every cut that laid him down or, you know,

  cut him till he cried out in his anger and his shame.

  But the fighter still remains, right?

  But it established in, in our marriage that we were dedicated

  shame that I felt the shame. But it what I learned from it, I

  learned that my wife is amazing, that together we are super

  amazing, that our children are amazing and we got through it

  and and we came out and that our parents are amazing.

  I mean, we got, we got, we got rescued by our parents when we

  were old enough that we shouldn't have needed rescuing.

  first date, we're really just kind of feeling each other out.

  two-month long. Like, you know, that scene in

  falling in love. That's what happened, right?

  We, we just had, it was, it was, it went over, over days and

  weeks in a couple months. But man, within a few months, I

  was, I was in love. I was, I was done.

  I was cooked. But so it was after our first
• 1:06:10
  date and we're just kind of getting to know one another.

  And I lived with a roommate in a 2 bedroom apartment in Fair

  Oaks, CA. She lived in Carmichael.

  She's a neighboring little suburb.

  And at the apartment complex there was a swimming pool and a

  hot tub and like a playground for, for kids, you know, people
• 1:06:31
  with families and stuff like that.

  And Kimberly and I, we went out to just kind of like be outside.

  I think we started we, she'd come over, we were in the
• 1:06:40
  apartment and then we just like went outside and we were sitting
• 1:06:44
  on like the swing set and we were just talking, getting to
• 1:06:47
  know one another. What are your, what are your
• 1:06:50
  plans? What are your dreams?

  What do you want out of life is like it's getting serious pretty
• 1:06:55
  quickly. But it wasn't like a date.

  I didn't ask her out. We didn't go to a but there we
• 1:06:59
  were and we were getting to know one another and we were telling
• 1:07:03
  each other about our hopes and our dreams and what we want.

  And one of the things that I didn't, didn't express vocally,

  but I wanted, I wanted a life partner that would be
• 1:07:18
  spontaneous. And we were both dressed, right?
• 1:07:23
  We were, we were like in our regular, like, I don't know, we
• 1:07:28
  both worked that day. So we were in whatever business,
• 1:07:32
  casual clothing, whatever, just out there on the swing set and
• 1:07:37
  monkey bars talking. And I think I just was like, I
• 1:07:41
  want to go swimming. You want to go swimming?
• 1:07:43
  And she goes, yeah. And so I'm like, all right.
• 1:07:46
  And then I just run and I jump in the pool.
• 1:07:50
  And by the time my head is above water again, I can see that
• 1:07:56
  she's already in. She jumped in the pool, too.

  And we and we swam in our clothes and laughed and laughed
• 1:08:03
  and laughed. Had a really good time.

  I would love to relive that date.

  I often do in my mind. That was fun.

  of the things you did to earn money in high school and

  plan that I was going to be a missionary.

  of what, what young men do. And so at the time, I had to be

  19 in order to do it. And, and I graduated when I was

  17, graduated high school when I was 17.

  And I ended up having more than two years between the time I
• 1:08:47
  graduated and the time I went on my mission.

  And so let's see, in high school, I had two jobs.

  The first was as a stock boy of Susie's Casuals in the Sunrise

  Mall in Citrus Heights, CA. And I was the guy that would
• 1:09:06
  unbox the stock. I would steam it.
• 1:09:08
  It was all women's clothing and I was the only guy who worked in
• 1:09:14
  the place. I, you know, I had lots of
• 1:09:18
  coworkers that were awesome and I thought they were so old they
• 1:09:22
  were probably like, I don't know, 25 or something, something
• 1:09:26
  like that. But yeah, I would, I would unbox
• 1:09:30
  the shipments and I would get them steamed and pressed
• 1:09:33
  sometimes and then get them organized and get them out on
• 1:09:37
  the out on the floor. Later on, I became a
• 1:09:41
  salesperson. I went, you know, they, they
• 1:09:43
  liked having a high school age young man working in a, in a
• 1:09:48
  women's clothing store. Got to, got to meet lots of
• 1:09:53
  people that I, that I ended up really liking.
• 1:09:56
  And then as I got a little bit older, so like 16 years old, I
• 1:10:02
  got a job as a portrait photographer at JC Penney
• 1:10:07
  Portrait Studio. That's right, that's right.
• 1:10:10
  I was, I was a photographer at JC Penney Portrait Studio.

  I, I, I think I worked that job my entire senior year of high
• 1:10:17
  school. And then when I graduated from
• 1:10:19
  high school, I got an opportunity because I had to pay
• 1:10:22
  for a mission. My dad, sometimes it's not what
• 1:10:27
  you know, it's who you know, right?
• 1:10:30
  My dad got me a job on a construction site that paid way
• 1:10:33
  more, like double, and I was able to work those two years,
• 1:10:40
  you know, getting paid well and saving so that I could afford to
• 1:10:45
  pay for my mission. And then my parents, because
• 1:10:50
  they're awesome, when it came time to go on a mission, they
• 1:10:53
  said, you know what, if you can just get yourself there, buy all
• 1:10:56
  your clothing and you know, your luggage and all the stuff that
• 1:10:59
  it takes to get on a mission, we'll pay for your mission while
• 1:11:03
  you're there, which was awesome. That meant that I had some
• 1:11:07
  savings and stuff like that. It was really cool.

  So, yeah. And that was construction.
• 1:11:12
  I was, I was the guy that swept up behind the people doing the
• 1:11:14
  real work, right. And then, you know, over the
• 1:11:17
  course of a couple years, I, I started doing carpentry and, you
• 1:11:24
  know, I went from like sweeping to caulking to digging ditches
• 1:11:31
  to, you know, whatever, scraping things so they can be painted to
• 1:11:36
  finally I was doing framing and, and stuff like that.

  But that's, that's what I did. Then when I came home from
• 1:11:44
  Argentina and I tried college, I hated, I hated it.

  I worked for first for American Express in a call center and
• 1:11:53
  then later for Packard Bell NEC in a call center.

  And that led me to my, my tech school that I ultimately, you

  know, went through that whole process at NEC computers to

  Packard Bell University. So those are your three
