- 0:21Baylee: Hey everyone, it's Baylee.
- 0:22Brianna: And Brianna.
- 0:23Baylee: We're so happy to have you here.
- 0:25Baylee: We're launching Mocktail minutes.
- 0:26Baylee: So first, just thanks for being here! Each episode we are going to cover a topic, little fluff, lots of knowledge.
- 0:33Baylee: We're gonna get straight to the point.
- 0:35Baylee: And for fun, we also do our little sips each week because it's mocktail minutes.
- 0:39Baylee: So this week I have companion Kombucha.
- 0:43Baylee: Never tried it, but they're local here in St.
- 0:46Baylee: Louis, so we'll see how they taste.
- 0:48Brianna: Nice.
- 0:49Brianna: Nothing fancy.
- 0:50Brianna: I have a bubbly, but I have it in here because I'm not adult enough to put things in the refrigerator when I, buy them.
- 0:55Brianna: So I had to add ice.
- 0:57Brianna: So there's that..
- 0:58Baylee: Yes, totally fine.
- 1:00Baylee: But today we have a very special guest and if you read the title, you know exactly who she is.
- 1:06Baylee: she's kind of like my celebrity friend.
- 1:08Baylee: She changes lives and without her, I don't think I would be sitting here today doing what I get to do as you're a dietitian, to know her is to love her.
- 1:17Baylee: So everyone meet Megan.
- 1:19Baylee: Megan, do you wanna give a little introduction about yourself?
- 1:21Megan: Yeah.
- 1:21Megan: Thanks guys.
- 1:22Megan: My name is Megan Hansen.
- 1:24Megan: I've been a dietitan for about 12 years now, and I actually did not even work as a dietitian for like, probably, I don't know, the first six or seven years after becoming one.
- 1:35Megan: But the last six years or so, I have been working online in the virtual nutrition space.
- 1:41Megan: I have a program called Metabolism Makeover and I live at Atlanta, Georgia.
- 1:47Baylee: Nice.
- 1:48Megan: Some
- 1:48Baylee: fun
- 1:48Megan: facts..
- 1:49GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: Megan, what are you drinking?
- 1:50GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: Do you have a mocktail?
- 1:51GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: Well, I did have a mocktail.
- 1:52GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: I had a fruit punch, a jigsaw fruit punch, like electrolyte drink, and I was Stuck in traffic.
- 1:59GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: I just came from the city because I had a dentist appointment and I was drinking it on my way back and I had to pee so bad that I just ended up drinking the rest of it and peeing in the cup.
- 2:08GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: On I 85, so it's actually, and now I don't, I, I no longer have it.
- 2:14GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: Did you throw it away?
- 2:15GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: Well, no, it's, it, I mean, it's in my, it's in my stanley Cup.
- 2:19GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: I'm gonna clean it.
- 2:20GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: I'm not throwing that out.
- 2:21GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: Not the Stanley.
- 2:22GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: Yeah, I mean, it'll go in the dishwasher.
- 2:25GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: It'll be all right.
- 2:26GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: Okay.
- 2:27GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: Clean.
- 2:30GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: Oh my God.
- 2:31GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: I mean, I pretty impressive that you were able to do that.
- 2:34GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: I know.
- 2:34GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: I was pretty impressed too.
- 2:35GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: I was like you know, if I end up peeing on myself, I'm just gonna walk in the house and then it's gonna be fine, but I I was successful at it.
- 2:42GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: I'm very proud.
- 2:43GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: Oh, that's fantastic.
- 2:44GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: I guess you would need like a Stanley, you know, just in case.
- 2:46GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: Yes.
- 2:47GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: I'm always so scared, like, what if I start to pee And then, I don't have a big enough container?
- 2:51GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: Like then you're just yeah, then you're trouble, and then you're in big trouble.
- 2:55GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: Then you're big trouble in trouble.
- 2:56GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: Yeah.
- 2:58GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: That's great.
- 2:58GMT20230327-220127_Recording_gallery_1280x720: Oh God.
- 2:59I am so glad you shared that story.
- 3:01That is honestly hilarious.
- 3:05But yeah, today, we're going to talk about Brianna and I's experience of coming to know you and also wanted you to share your experience of being a dietitian, how metabolism makeover was born and We are super excited to hear more about your journey and your upcoming project.
- 3:21Baylee: So kind of rewinding back to my experience in school, I was interning in October of 2021, and trying to figure out my place, figure out what I wanted to do, and I was following Megan.
- 3:34Baylee: And at first I was like, okay, I really like this girl, trying to figure it out.
- 3:39Baylee: And then, I almost unfollowed you to be honest.
- 3:43Baylee: Cause I was like, this is not what we're being told every day in school.
- 3:47Baylee: Like, this doesn't seem right.
- 3:49Baylee: But then I was like, Nope, I'm gonna give her a chance.
- 3:51Baylee: So I kept following you and I was seeing all these amazing results that your clients were having, that you were seeing in metabolism makeover.
- 4:01Baylee: And I got more and more curious, comparing that to the approach that I was learning in school.
- 4:06Baylee: So really looked more into the weight loss aspect.
- 4:09Baylee: For example, we talk about the amount of calories in school that someone needs and if you think about weight loss on the most basic level, like.
- 4:16Baylee: Yeah, calories matter, but they aren't king.
- 4:19Baylee: And I was telling all these individuals about how many calories you should get per day, but I wasn't even doing that myself.
- 4:25Baylee: and I just felt like it really sucked to be approaching weight loss in that way.
- 4:30Baylee: So that's why I kind of stuck with you.
- 4:32Baylee: And I never unfollowed you because I was like we need more of this.
- 4:36Baylee: Brianna, do you wanna kinda share your experience in school?
- 4:39Brianna: Yeah, so I actually had quite an opposite experience than most dietitians, like come to find.
- 4:44Brianna: So my program was pretty progressive, they were kind of like, Okay.
- 4:48Brianna: we're not really talking about calories and calories out for the most part but it was a lot of like, community needs, that sort of thing.
- 4:54Brianna: And I've said this before, but while I was going through school I, realized, oh wow, my relationship with food is super unhealthy and, I just thought it was normal and I was doing everything right and then I realized like no one around me was doing that.
- 5:07Brianna: And all these people who were going to school to be dietitians, ate all the foods and they ate carbs.
- 5:12Brianna: And I was okay I'm never gonna talk about weight loss again, whatever.
- 5:15Brianna: And I came across Megan's page I thought, I, I, can't forget, one of the first reels that I saw was the one where you're like making a protein shake.
- 5:22Brianna: And then you're like, oh, shit, that's a margarita.
- 5:24Brianna: And I was like, yes, that is so funny.
- 5:26Brianna: Here's this girl, she's talking about weight loss, but in a way that resonates with me.
- 5:30Brianna: You don't have to count calories, you don't have to do this.
- 5:32Brianna: And I was like okay, I can get along with this.
- 5:35Brianna: Again, not something you're learning about when you're doing clinical dietetics.
- 5:39Brianna: So I was like, what's that?
- 5:39Brianna: But I really resonated with it and I was Like, okay, this is someone who's like, we don't have food rules.
- 5:44Brianna: We're not giving up fun.
- 5:45Brianna: You can lose weight, meet your goals without counting everything and I can get down with this.
- 5:49Baylee: Yes.
- 5:50Baylee: Megan, do you wanna share kind of your experience with school and also maybe a little bit about what made you become a dietitian?
- 5:56Megan: Yeah, sure.
- 5:57Megan: So that is, those stories are really funny I'm glad you guys shared those with me
- 6:03Baylee: I'm glad I didn't unfollow you.
- 6:04Megan: yeah, I actually wanted to become a dietitian because I was an athlete in high school and I am a high achiever, always have to be the best at absolutely everything I do.
- 6:15Megan: It's a great thing and it's also, you know, can be a curse sometimes.
- 6:19Megan: That's how we get burnout adrenals later in life.
- 6:22Megan: But, I was in particular, I was a swimmer, at the time.
- 6:25Megan: And I was a swimmer and a soccer player, but when I was a swimmer, I really, really wanted to improve my times.
- 6:29Megan: I wanted to go to state.
- 6:30Megan: I had all these goals, and so I picked up a fitness magazine, which I think is hilarious now to this day that that was my first touch with like Health was Fitness magazine And I reading it and you know, I'm thinking like I'm reading about like fitness stuff.
- 6:44Megan: Like, uh, what do I need to do on the weekends?
- 6:45Megan: Do I need to go run?
- 6:46Megan: Do I need to do this?
- 6:47Megan: Do I Do that How do I get faster?
- 6:48Megan: How do I get stronger?
- 6:49Megan: And they had so much information in about nutrition and I, I mean, I drank like Carnation instant breakfast in the morning before practice.
- 6:55Megan: You know, nutrition.
- 6:57Megan: Not that we ate a bunch of junk food, but it certainly was not something that was important at all in my family.
- 7:04Megan: And I started learning more about healthy food and making this connection between what I eat and how I perform and how I feel every day.
- 7:12Megan: And I could feel the effects immediately.
- 7:14Megan: So not only did I get a lot faster and you know, I could see it like I had data, but I also could tell on a Monday after eating junk food all weekend, what I would feel like versus on a Monday after not eating junk food all weekend.
- 7:25Megan: You know, at practice.
- 7:26Megan: So making that connection was huge for me.
- 7:29Megan: And when I found out you could study nutrition in college, I was like, okay.
- 7:33Megan: Done.
- 7:33Megan: That sounds a lot more fun than business school.
- 7:35Megan: Right.
- 7:35Megan: But my kind of weird relationship with food definitely started in high school and I'm kinda like, you Brianna.
- 7:40Megan: I didn't know that I was doing anything wrong.
- 7:43Megan: I thought I was just being healthy.
- 7:45Brianna: Right, I'm doing the right things.
- 7:46Megan: Yeah.
- 7:47Megan: yeah.
- 7:47Megan: But then it kind of spiraled.
- 7:48Megan: So my experience in college was more that we were learning, I mean, we were learning like really rigid, and granted this was like 12 years ago.
- 7:57Megan: But I'm glad to know that there are programs now that have moved away from this, but It was like the very first thing that we learned was for medical nutrition therapy, MNT 10 1, that when you have a patient that comes in, the first thing you do is you get their height weight, you figure out their b m i, you figure out how many calories they should be eating.
- 8:13Megan: If they're overweight, you put'em on a diet and it's like, I mean, maybe not a cancer patient or someone like that, but for most patients, the route that you would take.
- 8:21Megan: And we had a class project where we actually had to do this to ourselves, where we would put ourselves, I'm not saying that we had to put ourselves on a diet, but we had to put ourselves on a plan of some sort of this is how many calories you eat.
- 8:33Megan: At the time there was no MyFitness Pal, so we were doing handwritten food diaries And so I was doing this keeping track of my intake, telling my calories every day, keeping track Of how many calories I was burning and I wanted to lose five pounds.
- 8:48Megan: I'm pretty sure I did the you know, they had the, I remember the ideal body weight charts, so my ideal body weight was like 120 and I was like 125 pounds.
- 8:57Megan: And I was like, oh I better lose five pounds.
- 8:59Megan: And that's actually where my spiral really started because I was eating like 1200 calories a day.
- 9:06Megan: I was doing like 60 minutes plus of cardio every day.
- 9:09Megan: And now looking back it's like, well, duh, you were in over a thousand you know, calorie deficit probably every single day you were starving.
- 9:16Megan: That's when I really started on the binge restrict cycle and my first time that I ever like really binged, I remember very clearly coming home from dinner, I was still so hungry because I'm also walking all over campus all day.
- 9:28Megan: You know, can you imagine how much cardio I was actually getting in?
- 9:31Megan: And I ate an entire jar of peanut butter.
- 9:33Megan: It was my roommate's peanut butter.
- 9:34Megan: Of course, I would not have bought a peanut butter.
- 9:36Megan: I remember laying in bed and I felt so sick to my stomach.
- 9:39Megan: Obviously.
- 9:40Megan: I was freaking out about all the calories I just ate, and I still remember to this day, you know, it never really dawned on me that this was not good.
- 9:51Megan: Like this was not a good thing.
- 9:53Megan: It was more like, oh shit.
- 9:54Megan: I just overate.
- 9:56Megan: I'm gonna have to burn all that off.
- 9:57Megan: Now I feel sick.
- 9:58Megan: there was definitely a lot of guilt and shame that was associated with it, but there was never that moment that I asked myself why is this happening?
- 10:04Megan: Why am I doing this?
- 10:06Megan: And I think really for the next four to five years, I experienced this cycle.
- 10:12Megan: There was a period where I was purging, I never went for treatment or anything like that I seemed to be able to remedy that myself.
- 10:19Megan: But the disordered eating was extreme for probably five or six years, and I ended up gaining weight, during all this time that I was trying so hard to lose these five pounds.
- 10:29Megan: I ended up gaining about 20, 25 pounds over the course of four or five years, and I honestly think that was probably part of the reason why I shared at the beginning I didn't work in dietetics for years because I really felt like a fraud.
- 10:44Megan: I was like, I don't believe in what I'm doing.
- 10:46Megan: First of all, I don't feel excited about this.
- 10:48Megan: I don't wanna go counsel somebody in weight loss.
- 10:50Megan: I can't even do it myself.
- 10:52Megan: And it was, it was a really tough experience.
- 10:57Megan: I almost dropped out actually, I think my junior year, and my mom was like, you are not changing majors, right?
- 11:04Brianna: In too deep, right?
- 11:05Megan: shout out to Sandy for literally not allowing me to change majors, but that was a lot of it.
- 11:09Megan: I don't think I knew that at the time.
- 11:11Megan: I don't think I was like, oh, I'm a fraud.
- 11:13Megan: But I know now that that's where that connection was.
- 11:15Megan: And I just, I didn't believe in what I was learning and what I was doing.
- 11:18Brianna: I think that's popular to feel that way.
- 11:20Megan: Yeah, Yeah.
- 11:22Megan: I mean, I have these conversations online all the time now with other dietitians.
- 11:26Megan: Every time I share this story, it's like they come out of the woodwork and they're like, oh my gosh.
- 11:30Megan: Thank you for sharing that.
- 11:31Megan: I thought I was the only one.
- 11:32Megan: So I know there are so many of us out there that had this experience as well.
- 11:37Baylee: I felt the same way.
- 11:38Baylee: Cause I even remember doing that project that you were talking about where we had to look at our calories, looked at everything we were eating, we based our meal plan off of our ideal weight, how many calories we needed.
- 11:50Baylee: And when I was calculating it, I was like, oh my gosh, what I normally eat is Like 800 calories more than what I'm supposed to be eating.
- 11:57Baylee: so I was like okay, well this is wrong.
- 11:59Baylee: Then the next day I tried to cut it back.
- 12:01Baylee: Now I'm starving, but this is what I'm supposed to do.
- 12:03Baylee: Right?
- 12:04Baylee: And so that was just super frustrating, I guess, because I wasn't even in a place where I wanted to lose weight or I needed to lose weight.
- 12:11Baylee: weight loss was not even on my spectrum.
- 12:16Baylee: I wasn't even thinking about it until I was like, am I eating too much?
- 12:18Baylee: Should I be losing weight?
- 12:19Baylee: Like, what's wrong with me?
- 12:21Baylee: And I sensed that feeling of fraud as well because I was like, why am I telling all these people to count calories when I'm not even doing it myself?
- 12:30Baylee: Why am I telling people to do things that I don't even wanna do?
- 12:34Baylee: And that was a big part of what got me to get to know more about you and join Metabolism Makeover as a coach.
- 12:42Baylee: And I think that's really what changed it all for me And I really found what I needed there to help also bring that to my own clients, to Metabolism makeover and I wanted to be a part of this community that was doing things differently.
- 12:56Brianna: Yeah.
- 12:57Brianna: I gotta say like, I've never been my ideal body weight.
- 12:59Brianna: I was a size zero wedding dress And was 15 pounds heavier than my ideal body weight.
- 13:04Brianna: Like there wasn't getting any smaller for me and so that's where I really started to realize like there's two different realms of dietetics.
- 13:11Brianna: There's a clinical realm where, okay, we need these calculations.
- 13:15Brianna: I mean, someone is literally laying in a bed.
- 13:16Brianna: What do we gotta do to keep'em survive?
- 13:17Brianna: Help them in their disease state, but That is not, you can't apply that to Like real life and helping people lose weight.
- 13:23Brianna: It's just not sustainable.
- 13:25Brianna: It doesn't work, it doesn't make sense.
- 13:27Brianna: We're not these little controlled creatures that you could just put a simple math equation into a phone and then follow that and then be like, oh wow.
- 13:34Brianna: I'm exactly where I wanna be.
- 13:35Brianna: So I think that's what resonated the most with me with Metabolism Makeover.
- 13:39Brianna: And that's where I was like, you know, I wanna be a part of this.
- 13:42Brianna: I wanna help women reach their goals in a way that is sustainable and works for them.
- 13:46Brianna: Because there's one way to be a dietician in a hospital and then there's a completely different way you gotta do it outside because it's not the same and I felt like you married the two really well.
- 13:55Brianna: like you were like, let me tell you the science behind how your body works and you know, let me give you that power.
- 14:00Megan: Yeah.
- 14:00Megan: And I, think that's my biggest thing is I wanna teach people and give them the tools to be able to do this themselves.
- 14:09Megan: And yeah, we're gonna be there to support you and you may need to hire coaches.
- 14:12Megan: I hire a coach.
- 14:13Megan: I almost always have some sort of coach in my life but I know, that I don't want a blueprint because I'm not gonna follow it.
- 14:20Megan: like come on.
- 14:21Megan: We're human beings.
- 14:22Megan: We think we want a blueprint.
- 14:24Megan: We always think we want it.
- 14:25Megan: Tell me exactly what to eat.
- 14:26Megan: Tell me exactly how much of this, tell me this, tell me this.
- 14:29Megan: We don't follow it.
- 14:30Megan: So not for
- 14:32Brianna: we don't have buy-in.
- 14:33Brianna: We're just like, mm, I don't wanna do
- 14:34Megan: no, not for more than a month.
- 14:35Megan: It, and it's just human nature.
- 14:36Megan: And so I think that was something that was really important to me when I was building the program.
- 14:41Megan: Like let's just remove everything that doesn't work and keep the things that do work.
- 14:45Megan: And what does work, I think, is teaching people and empowering them.
- 14:48Megan: And I think that there are probably, there are probably some people that, that maybe that does not work with, but those are also not my ideal clients.
- 14:56Megan: You know, those are people that I don't want to work with.
- 14:58Megan: If you don't wanna take responsibility for yourself and take your power back, like we're not gonna connect So, If you do, like this is something that can completely change your life.
- 15:09Megan: And I think what's really cool too is when you start teaching people, you know, it's like starts with food.
- 15:13Megan: Okay.
- 15:13Megan: So I'm teaching people about, and I'll just to back up for a second.
- 15:17Megan: lot of your listeners, have maybe done Metabolism Makeover, heard you guys talking about it.
- 15:20Megan: But essentially it's a 30 day program that rolls into a monthly program where we focus on what I call the six pillars of a h ealthy metabolism or the metabolic ecosystem and it's blood sugar control, muscle movement, sleep, stress management, and gut health.
- 15:40Megan: And these, they're equally important.
- 15:42Megan: We need to be paying attention to all six of these things, not just diet and exercise.
- 15:46Megan: When you teach people about, like I, I like to say, like you teach them how their body works.
- 15:51Megan: You teach'em how their metabolism works, you teach'em how all these work together, to create your metabolism and your wellness, just like your overall wellness.
- 16:00Megan: Then they can take that information and completely transform the way that they feel.
- 16:05Megan: And when they do that, it's so empowering and it really bleeds over into other areas of their life.
- 16:11Megan: And then they start asking themselves like, well, where else can I do this?
- 16:15Megan: Like where else?
- 16:15Megan: Where else am I allowing someone to tell me what to do with my life or my body or my mind, and how can I take my power back over that?
- 16:25Megan: So it's very cool to see some of our members who have been around for a year or two who, yeah, like they feel awesome and They've lost weight, but they've also left their job and they're doing something that they're super passionate about.
- 16:36Megan: They've bought their dream vacation house.
- 16:38Megan: They've manifested all these incredible things into their life.
- 16:41Megan: And this is where it started, you know, it started with really Just taking their power back over their body and over food.
- 16:49Brianna: Well, it's like it gives them that permission to do the thing that they don't know they're allowed to do.
- 16:53Brianna: Everyone's like, gimme permission.
- 16:55Brianna: Here you go.
- 16:55Brianna: Like once you start like being empowered to make your own decisions, like you said, you're like, well, where else blindly doing something cuz it's the right thing to do.
- 17:02Brianna: And I love that about our MM members.
- 17:04Baylee: I will say, I think probably the hardest part that I see for so many people that we work with, I think it's giving up those rules and giving up.
- 17:12Baylee: Just not having someone tell you, you have to eat exactly this.
- 17:16Baylee: I had someone message me saying that they were told they had to eat chicken and egg whites to be healthy.
- 17:20Baylee: I'm like, Nope.
- 17:21Baylee: You can eat more than chicken and egg whites, I promise you.
- 17:23Baylee: You'll Probably enjoy life a lot more.
- 17:25Baylee: So I think giving up the rules is almost like the hardest part.
- 17:29Brianna: Oh yeah.
- 17:29Brianna: There's clients are always like, am I doing it right?
- 17:32Brianna: And they're asking me as a coach and Ask yourself is X, Y, Z happening?
- 17:36Brianna: Because if it is, you are, if it's not like where else?
- 17:39Brianna: Like what, what do you think you need to switch around.
- 17:41Brianna: And it's like suddenly, like it clicks.
- 17:44Brianna: I could do this myself.
- 17:45Megan: And that honestly, I think is the most important part right there is that eating this way, especially when we're just talking about, when we're just talking about like controlling blood sugar, it helps you get reconnected with your body.
- 17:58Megan: And we are so, as a society, we are so disconnected from our bodies in every, in every way.
- 18:05Megan: And.
- 18:06Megan: So, you know, this morning actually I was on a call with the Metabolism Makeover members and somebody had asked about macro counting.
- 18:13Megan: They're Like It's just really helpful for me to count my macros and blah, blah, blah.
- 18:17Megan: How do I know what I'm eating at each meal?
- 18:18Megan: And I was like, look, you can.
- 18:21Megan: I'm not anti macro counting.
- 18:22Megan: I mean, I may seem like it, you know, cuz I, one of the things that I say is like, you can not count macros and still lose weight.
- 18:28Megan: Yeah.
- 18:28Megan: you you can count macros, but I want you to go these 30 days without doing it because.
- 18:33Megan: I want you to be able to reconnect with your hunger and your satiety hormones, because without that, you will never see, you'll either never see long-term results, or you'll just be counting your macros for the rest of your life.
- 18:46Megan: Those are your two options.
- 18:47Megan: So you have to get reconnected with your body.
- 18:49Megan: And I think too, when you start getting reconnected with your body and just your hunger hormones, you start getting more reconnected with your body in other ways, and you start noticing.
- 18:57Megan: How do I feel when I sleep six hours a night versus seven?
- 19:00Megan: How do, I react to my kids when I don't do my meditation in the morning?
- 19:04Megan: You start making these connections, and those connections are so important.
- 19:08Megan: They take you off this autopilot that so many of us are living on.
- 19:12Megan: And just like, you know, going through our days, you know, so many women that I work with, they're so unhappy and so unfulfilled.
- 19:17Megan: You gotta start somewhere.
- 19:18Megan: And when you can start reconnecting to your body, I think, you know, it will bleed over into other areas of your life.
- 19:24Brianna: Yeah, And you might as well start with something you have to do every day.
- 19:26Megan: Yeah, absolutely.
- 19:28Megan: Yeah.
- 19:28Megan: And you're gonna get immediate results too.
- 19:30Megan: Like, I'm not saying that you're gonna lose five pounds overnight, but there is no way that you don't have more energy when you're keeping your blood sugar balanced.
- 19:37Megan: Like it's just not possible.
- 19:39Megan: So You at least we'll start feeling better.
- 19:41Megan: Yeah.
- 19:42Baylee: Yeah.
- 19:42Baylee: One of my first things I saw was like, wow, I'm not hungry all day long.
- 19:46Baylee: When I actually eat a meal that fills me up and keeps me full for longer than an hour and a half, I, don't have to eat every two hours.
- 19:53Baylee: That's pretty nice.
- 19:54Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 19:55Megan: so nice.
- 19:55Megan: It's so freeing.
- 19:56Brianna: Speaking of Metabolism makeover, because now you've helped so many women, like it's an amazing program, so successful, but what was your first round of Metabolism makeover like?
- 20:07Megan: Yeah.
- 20:07Megan: So, now these days we have like in March we have about 350 members, and that's typically our smallest group.
- 20:14Megan: We pump a lot of women and even some men through the program.
- 20:18Megan: But my first round of Metabolism Makeover, we had 17 And which I thought was amazing.
- 20:24Megan: I was super pumped about that.
- 20:25Megan: I actually launched it before I created it, and which is something that.
- 20:29Baylee: It's on brand.
- 20:30Megan: It is on brand.
- 20:30Megan: I mean I knew what I wanted to do.
- 20:32Megan: Like I had sort of wire framed it.
- 20:34Megan: I had been working with one-on-one clients for a while and I took'em through a process.
- 20:37Megan: We always started with blood sugar control, and we would talk about the workouts, and then We would talk about sleep and stress and gut.
- 20:42Megan: you know, it It was the same.
- 20:43Megan: I've been doing the same damn thing for whatever, five, six years.
- 20:48Megan: but I didn't have any of it really created, like, a group program cuz I didn't know if anybody was gonna buy it, you know?
- 20:54Megan: But there I did, there were 17 people that bought, I had no email service.
- 20:59Megan: I just had like probably nutrition addiction.
- 21:01Megan: That's what we were, my company was called at the time@gmail.com and I spent a week, you know, I launched it like two weeks ahead of time and I gave myself two weeks to make the meal plan and put the lessons together and pdf.
- 21:13Megan: We went live once a week and I pretty much covered all the content for the week on that live and then I would answer questions.
- 21:19Megan: It was all done on Facebook Live so, it was pretty primitive, but it was great because clients got a lot of from me as I was trying to build this out.
- 21:32Megan: And I actually did it that way for quite a while.
- 21:33Megan: It wasn't, like a course, it was more of a bootcamp, I guess I would call it.
- 21:37Megan: I think my second group had only like 11 people, so it was a slow start.
- 21:41Megan: It was a pretty slow start, but I just, I kept working with the clients.
- 21:45Megan: I kept changing the program, making it a little better each time.
- 21:49Megan: I eventually turned it into a course after about, I mean, gosh, probably after about nine months or so, or almost, it.
- 21:55Megan: was almost a year probably.
- 21:57Megan: I did it very hands-on for a long time, which was truthfully, I think the success of the program.
- 22:02Megan: And it's so easy for creators, they do something once and then they're like automate it.
- 22:06Megan: I wanna turn it evergreen.
- 22:08Megan: And I never wanted to do that.
- 22:10Megan: It wasn't, I don't wanna say it wasn't about the money.
- 22:12Megan: I mean, I'm definitely driven by money.
- 22:14Megan: I need to make a living.
- 22:15Megan: But I always had this really long-term vision.
- 22:18Megan: I did not need the quick cash, I needed the long-term sustainable business, and I really had that in my mind from the very beginning, even when I was broke ass poor and looking back on it I'm so glad that I did it that way because I worked with a hundred clients at least, like really, really one-on-one.
- 22:35Megan: and intentionally during that first year before I actually turned it into a course and started scaling it.
- 22:43Brianna: And probably learned like what are the consistent pain points that women are having, you know, and like really being able to pinpoint it and honestly dieticians all have Similar personalities.
- 22:53Brianna: We're all perfectionists.
- 22:54Brianna: you, might, I mean, who knows?
- 22:56Brianna: If you would've been like, I'm just gonna wait till this is perfect to start.
- 22:59Brianna: I think you needed to just hit the ground running like this.
- 23:01Brianna: I have a deadline now that I need to make this happen.
- 23:04Megan: Yeah, I'm really grateful for that.
- 23:05Megan: I mean, I'm not a perfectionist.
- 23:06Megan: I have people on my team that like, have to walk behind me and make sure that I'm, you know, that proofread literally everything that I put out.
- 23:14Megan: I actually went in this weekend, I don't know if if you guys saw my newsletter yesterday, but I went in and I changed a couple things in the newsletter.
- 23:22Megan: It's like I changed like three words and one of'em was in the subject and I accidentally deleted one of the quotation marks in the subject.
- 23:30Megan: And Helena, my sister, who proofreads everything, immediately when the newsletter comes out, texts me.
- 23:35Megan: She's like, Megan, what did you do?
- 23:37Megan: Did you change the newsletter?
- 23:39Megan: I was like, yes.
- 23:39Megan: She's like, how can you, why is it that everything you touch has a typo?
- 23:42Megan: And I'm like, I don't know.
- 23:43Megan: I can't help it.
- 23:44Brianna: Oh no.
- 23:44Brianna: I want them to know it's me.
- 23:46Megan: She's like, I have told you so many times, do not send something without letting me check it So anyways, it's been really, honestly, one of my strengths, I think because I just wrote out it.
- 23:56Megan: And it was a total mess before I had employees.
- 23:59Megan: But, my people stuck with me so,
- 24:02Baylee: Yeah, and it's, it's really good to kind of hear more your story because I remember when I first met you, one of the things you said to me was like, I had no choice but to succeed.
- 24:11Baylee: And you were kind of talking to me because I was deciding on either being an entrepreneur or staying in the hospital, working there.
- 24:19Baylee: And kind of what motivated me, where you were just like, if you wanna be an entrepreneur, great, but you have to kind of kick butt there and you just don't have any choice but to succeed.
- 24:28Baylee: It was all on me.
- 24:30Baylee: that was what really helped me move forward.
- 24:33Megan: I actually had it was a, a friend at the time.
- 24:36Megan: We had done like a program together, where we launched, I actually think it was when I launched Metabolism Makeover.
- 24:42Megan: I was doing like a mastermind that kind of like helped me do this.
- 24:46Megan: I don't know if you have a lot of entrepreneurs that are your listeners, but that's one of my biggest tips, I guess, or pieces of advice You know, work with someone to help you.
- 24:53Megan: Like you do not have to reinvent the wheel.
- 24:55Megan: But anyways, so I had joined this mastermind and somebody that I was working with at the time, or that was in the mastermind with me, I think it was maybe like a year later, she came to me for advice.
- 25:03Megan: She was like, tell me your secret.
- 25:03Megan: Like, why, how, how do you keep cranking these programs out, and like how are you?
- 25:09Megan: And she's amazing.
- 25:10Megan: I love her, but she doesn't have to work, you know, She just doesn't, she can stay at home but she wanted it like, she wanted to have this business, But I was like, you're not, desperate enough.
- 25:20Megan: Like I, I will get kicked out of my apartment if I don't make this money.
- 25:25Megan: I was married at the time and, my ex-husband was like, hemorrhaging money from me and we don't need to get into all of that.
- 25:32Megan: But when I tell you that quite literally I would not have had a place to live if I was not cranking out, you know,$10,000 months.
- 25:41Megan: You figure it out, like you figure out how to make money real quick.
- 25:46Megan: And I'm so grateful That I had that.
- 25:49Megan: You know, you look at me now and people think like, oh, you're such a risk taker.
- 25:52Megan: You're such a hard worker.
- 25:53Megan: Yeah, sure.
- 25:53Megan: But I was not, I was not always like that.
- 25:56Megan: Like I really grew this business out of desperation and as hard as it was, I'm so grateful for that experience now, I really am.
- 26:06Baylee: It's really cool to kind of see how even through that desperation and, even through like having no choice but to keep going it wasn't like you automatically went to the automations, you kept just cranking out what needs to be done, because that's what's gonna be more important.
- 26:20Baylee: Like we want to help people.
- 26:22Megan: Yep.
- 26:22Megan: Yeah.
- 26:23Megan: And I also think, you know, I felt like I had more control over it.
- 26:25Megan: Like I knew if I could connect with people I could get them to sign on as clients.
- 26:30Megan: Whereas if I had automated everything I wouldn't have had as much control over it.
- 26:34Megan: So, I think that was probably part of it too.
- 26:36Megan: And I also, Worked my butt off.
- 26:39Megan: I bartended for quite a long time actually until I finally got to the point where I was like, okay, I can't grow the business anymore if I'm up three, four nights a week until three, four in the morning, you know, working.
- 26:50Megan: And so I finally, finally made that switch over, but,
- 26:53Brianna: So, okay, so you have a successful business, successful program.
- 26:59Brianna: What's next for you?
- 27:00Megan: Well, I wrote a book, over this last year, which has been Yes, yes.
- 27:05Megan: I never wanted to write a book that was like, never.
- 27:08Megan: I was like, I don't know why people wanna write books.
- 27:10Megan: It sounds horrible.
- 27:11Megan: And it's not fun.
- 27:12Megan: I can.
- 27:13Brianna: I was gonna say, it doesn't sound fun.
- 27:14Brianna: I don't know if you
- 27:15Megan: it's like, so, you know, I, yeah.
- 27:18Megan: Like it is changed.
- 27:19Megan: It is changed my opinion none.
- 27:21Megan: But I'm so glad that I actually, well, lemme back up for a second.
- 27:26Megan: So I was working with a coach a year And a half, two year, yeah.
- 27:31Megan: a year And a half or so ago.
- 27:32Megan: And, One of the things we talked about was my primary goal was number one, you know, I wanna scale the business, but I wanna position myself as a thought in this space because I, I think it's needed.
- 27:43Megan: Someone who is a dietitian who is talking about the opposite essentially, of what we're learning in school.
- 27:49Megan: And I wanna be a leader and I wanna be that person for other dietitians like you guys.
- 27:53Megan: I mean, just stories here, I'm like, this is why I'm, yes, I primarily work with clients, but this is why I.
- 27:58Megan: do what I do listening to what you guys are saying, you know, said at the beginning of the podcast And so we kind of talked about different ways to go about that I gotta do more than just like run these programs.
- 28:10Megan: And it came down to writing a book.
- 28:12Megan: Because when you write a book then you can get booked for more speaking gigs and da da da da da.
- 28:16Megan: and I was like I don't, I don't really wanna write a book He's like, well, you're a good writer, Megan.
- 28:19Megan: Like this would really be the easiest thing for you to do.
- 28:22Megan: and he was like, you know, you get a book out there, it doesn't have to be a New York Times bestseller.
- 28:27Megan: Like you just have to get a book out there.
- 28:29Megan: So I was like, okay, I'll just get book out there.
- 28:31Megan: Well, I can't do that.
- 28:32Megan: I can't just put a book out there.
- 28:33Megan: Right.
- 28:33Megan: And so I spent a year and a half writing this book.
- 28:37Megan: I've put just an enormous amount of time and energy into it and it's amazing to watch it transform into what it's become.
- 28:44Megan: And it's also made the program better too because it made me do so much I don't know it just made me look at the program differently and How I present information and how I explain it.
- 28:54Megan: Cuz it's very different like a book versus a program.
- 28:57Megan: Anyways, it comes out in May, May 2nd, and you can pre-order it now and it'll ship out on May.
- 29:04Megan: And actually, you know, for your audience members, if they're gonna hear this before my second, I would say, Pre-order it because you can get some really sweet bonuses.
- 29:12Megan: We have lots of, lots of good bonuses that will go along with the book that you can use prior to reading the book as well as while you read it.
- 29:19Brianna: Yes.
- 29:19Brianna: I may or may not have.
- 29:21Brianna: Read the book, so you know,
- 29:23Megan: Oh, yes, yes.
- 29:24Megan: Good, good.
- 29:25Megan: I'm glad.
- 29:26Brianna: I love it.
- 29:26Brianna: and it's stuff that I'm teaching to clients and I'm still like, oh my gosh, I love this.
- 29:32Megan: Yeah, it's resource.
- 29:33Megan: One of my favorite pieces of feedback I've gotten from it is from other clinicians, either dietitians or just like physicians or psychologists or PTs that are like, How do I use this in my practice?
- 29:44Megan: Like I wanna use so that obviously means a lot to me because I can only reach so many people.
- 29:49Megan: But if I can teach other clinicians how to talk to their patients and how to coach their clients, like, that's the ultimate goal.
- 29:59Brianna: Well, and it's such a good resource, but it's more than like a guide.
- 30:03Brianna: Like I feel like you do a really good job at making women feel heard.
- 30:07Brianna: Like, Hey, you've heard this.
- 30:09Brianna: Is this, you?
- 30:10Brianna: Like, this isn't just you.
- 30:11Brianna: It is so many other women feeling this way.
- 30:13Brianna: You're not alone.
- 30:15Brianna: Here's how to fix it.
- 30:16Megan: yeah, it's very conversational, I would say.
- 30:20Megan: Yeah.
- 30:20Megan: For a nutrition book, it's very much like Hey, like let's just hang out and chat about nutrition and metabolism.
- 30:26Megan: yeah
- 30:27Baylee: Yeah, you explained things really well and I think even while I was reading it myself, it's almost like I can hear your voice in my head the whole time.
- 30:35Megan: Good, Good,
- 30:36Baylee: We did wanna ask, are you able to give us a little sneak peek Anything you want to read from it?
- 30:41Megan: Actually, yeah.
- 30:42Megan: So, all right.
- 30:44Megan: Here's a good one.
- 30:44Megan: Actually, next month in our monthly program, we're focused on movement.
- 30:50Megan: I'll just give you kind of an overview of the book.
- 30:52Megan: So it starts out just introducing this sort of concept the first chapter is actually, how we got here.
- 30:58Megan: And so I kind of, walked through or the, the introduction is more like how we got here.
- 31:02Megan: Like how did, how do we, how do we all end up here?
- 31:04Megan: How did we end up in this place where we are completely at war with our bodies and, Just completely disconnected from ourselves and unable to lose weight, even though the weight loss industry is like a 70 some billion dollar industry.
- 31:20Megan: Yeah.
- 31:21Megan: And then I walk in, I go into the metabolic ecosystem and what it is, and then each pillar that I talked about earlier, really outlined in each chapter and then we go into, actually I'm changing my mind, we're gonna go to chapter eight.
- 31:33Megan: Chapter eight, is train your Brain.
- 31:35Megan: And this is actually something that I think is missing big time in any nutrition weight loss book that you're reading.
- 31:45Megan: Let me just read it instead of explaining.
- 31:47Megan: I'll read this first page here.
- 31:48Megan: Now that you have all the details of each of the six pillars that make up the metabolic ecosystem.
- 31:53Megan: It's time I let you in on a little secret.
- 31:55Megan: If we zoom out and take a 10,000 foot view, the metabolic ecosystem in its entirety is only 20% of losing weight, keeping it off, and never going on another diet again.
- 32:05Megan: The other 80% is right inside your head.
- 32:08Megan: The mind is perhaps the most mysterious part of the human body.
- 32:12Megan: Sure we know the brain as an organ.
- 32:14Megan: It's structure, how it works, like a computer processing information through chemical and electrical signals.
- 32:19Megan: But the mind, that's a place you really can't map.
- 32:23Megan: In fact, it's not, really a place at all.
- 32:25Megan: it's more of a collection of experiences synonymous with our thoughts, emotions, memories, and beliefs.
- 32:31Megan: And there is still a lot that we don't know about the crucial component of what makes us human..
- 32:35Megan: What we do know is that there are two components of our mind, the conscious and the, subconscious mind that dictate our thoughts, actions, and experiences on a daily basis.
- 32:44Megan: The conscious mind is anything we are aware of in the current moment, what we're feeling, doing, touching, saying, experiencing, and the subconscious mind contains all of the information from our past experiences.
- 32:54Megan: It impacts the way that we feel, how We respond, react, And experience life.
- 32:59Megan: According to psychologist Benjamin Hardy, what happens on your subconscious level influences what happens on your conscious level.
- 33:04Megan: In other words, what goes on internally, even subconsciously, eventually becomes your reality.
- 33:10Megan: So why am I going into this in the book?
- 33:14Megan: Because when we think about behavior change, like I can, I can talk to you all day about.
- 33:20Megan: How to manage your blood sugar, how to rev up your metabolism.
- 33:25Megan: I can, I can talk to you about sleep, I can talk to you about stress.
- 33:27Megan: But if you are not actually changing your behaviors, it's not, it's not gonna happen.
- 33:34Megan: And we so often, our problem, and this is what I really detail in the book, is that when we try to change a habit, We immediately go to behavior change.
- 33:47Megan: Duh.
- 33:47Megan: Right?
- 33:48Megan: Like, like it just makes sense.
- 33:48Megan: I say that out loud and you're like, okay, yeah, duh.
- 33:50Megan: No, that doesn't work.
- 33:54Megan: Nine times out of 10, unless your, well, let me say this, it doesn't work if your subconscious mind is telling you no.
- 34:04Megan: If your subconscious mind, which is.
- 34:06Megan: You know, it's very much based on our past experiences, our childhood, our trauma but not just our trauma.
- 34:11Megan: Like the good things that happen in our life are also stored in our subconscious mind.
- 34:14Megan: And it really influences our beliefs that we have about ourselves.
- 34:18Megan: And a lot of our automatic responses behaviors every day are actually decisions that are being made from our subconscious.
- 34:28Megan: There's no like real hard proof on this, but from what I found, I did a lot of research on this.
- 34:32Megan: The vast majority of psychologists agree that at least 95% of our minds or the decisions that we make every day are coming from our subconscious.
- 34:40Megan: So all of that to say we have to change our beliefs and our identity and who we are before we go and we try to change our behaviors.
- 34:49Megan: So just to give you an example, If you decide I wanna lose weight, you're like, okay, I wanna lose weight.
- 34:56Megan: What's the first thing that you do?
- 34:57Megan: Okay, you clean out your pantry, you put yourself on a diet, you order meal delivery.
- 35:00Megan: Maybe you sign up for a gym membership.
- 35:02Megan: Okay?
- 35:02Megan: Those are all behaviors, and that'll last for a little while.
- 35:05Megan: But if there's the thought inside your head that you're a failure and you're a self sabotage and that you're fat and you're gonna be fat for the rest of your life, there is no, there is literally no chance that you are going to continue on this path.
- 35:17Megan: And so it's, it's really, I love to say that weight loss is an art in a science because the science I teach you at the beginning, and that's great and that is so helpful and it can definitely impact the way that you think about food and your body, and there's no doubt about it, but the science is your mind.
- 35:33Megan: And if you don't get your mind right, there's a possibility that you will never see results no matter how much science you.
- 35:42Megan: So you have to have both.
- 35:44Megan: And so I couldn't write the book without including that.
- 35:46Megan: And actually in chapter eight, I walk you through a exercise it kind of like maps out your whole plan for you.
- 35:52Megan: Like if you have a goal, you know, have you set a goal for yourself and then.
- 35:55Megan: Back it up, like walk into it from making a change on an identity level, how to change your beliefs, and then eventually go down into changing your behaviors.
- 36:05Megan: Because if you're not changing your beliefs and what you think about yourself on a daily basis, You'll never follow through on those behaviors.
- 36:12Baylee: Just reading that chapter, I already have like 47 people in my head that I'm like, You need this book.
- 36:18Baylee: You need this book.
- 36:18Baylee: You need this book.
- 36:19Baylee: Because it is so important and it is what is getting in so many people's ways is how we're thinking about ourselves, what we're telling ourselves, the stories we're telling ourselves, and even thinking about their past experiences, especially working in the fat loss area.
- 36:34Baylee: Everyone thinks about, well, I've done this diet, I did it.
- 36:36Baylee: I lost 10 pounds, and it was great.
- 36:40Baylee: Now I, wanna do that again.
- 36:41Baylee: I'm like, well, 10 pounds in a week.
- 36:43Baylee: That's not a great thing to do because now obviously that didn't work.
- 36:47Baylee: You're here again.
- 36:48Baylee: Right.
- 36:48Baylee: So that instant gratification that people have seen, a lot of that comes up in the subconscious
- 36:53Megan: Yeah.
- 36:56Brianna: Well, yeah, and I'm always telling clients like your mindset drives the actions that you take.
- 37:01Brianna: Okay.
- 37:02Brianna: It drives it, for example, Oh my gosh, I ate so terrible yesterday.
- 37:06Brianna: I shouldn't eat today and I need to go for like a an hour run.
- 37:10Brianna: That is your mindset of you being so upset with yourself, upset with how you feel telling yourself, oh, I'm fat.
- 37:16Brianna: I need to do this.
- 37:17Brianna: That's driving you instantly to wanting to restrict and wanting to overexercise, but that's not how it's gonna fix you wanting to lose weight, right?
- 37:26Brianna: But how you think about yourself is gonna dictate what you decide to do.
- 37:30Brianna: And those things that you're doing because of your negative mindset are keeping you from your ultimate goal.
- 37:35Brianna: So it's like you're at war with yourself.
- 37:36Baylee: Also like it's going to take more than a day.
- 37:39Baylee: It's going to take more than a week and everything to change your mindset.
- 37:42Baylee: This is a lot of continuous work as well.
- 37:44Megan: Yes, we are lifelong projects and I think the more we can, I actually, I love thinking in terms of the year, so.
- 37:55Megan: I think it's really helpful for people when they go into any sort of change they wanna make, whether they wanna make a dent in their health, their weight, their mental health, their, their, I don't know, you know, their family life.
- 38:06Megan: Like, give yourself a year, like stop putting 30 days.
- 38:09Megan: I actually stopped calling what used to be the 30 day Metabolism makeover, and even though the core program is 30 days, I removed that because automatically, people think like, oh, in 30 days I'm gonna make over my metabolism.
- 38:20Megan: No, like, give yourself, yes for anything.
- 38:23Megan: Give yourself a year and watch the trajectory of your life change when you do that, so that you stop repeating these patterns over and over and over again.
- 38:33Megan: The and stop and start and stop and self sabotage like this, this stuff takes time.
- 38:37Brianna: And that's another thing I think I love, about Metabolism Makeover.
- 38:40Brianna: And even you, you're super transparent about it and you're like, yeah, I, preach about Y, and Z sometimes.
- 38:45Brianna: Like sleep isn't going well.
- 38:46Brianna: I know this.
- 38:47Brianna: This is what I'm doing to try to help it.
- 38:48Brianna: Like this is just realistic.
- 38:49Brianna: No, we're not gonna be perfect all the time.
- 38:51Brianna: And I think that's why I do love the concept of the pillars.
- 38:55Brianna: Nothing is ever gonna be fully perfect.
- 38:57Brianna: So focus on where you can and learning to shift is like what makes it sustainable.
- 39:02Megan: It's actually empowering to know that there are six areas, it's not just, if I screw up my diet, then either I have to go and work out for hours or bust.
- 39:16Megan: like, those are my two options.
- 39:17Megan: No, there's so many more things that go into your health, your metabolic health, your weight.
- 39:21Megan: So you have a lot of places that you can play.
- 39:24Megan: And if you're in a season of life where you can't get as much sleep cuz you have a baby or you know, just young children or if something with your job, then listen, this is the time to really hone in on blood sugar management and eating foods and really paying attention to your diet because you don't have a lot of room for error there.
- 39:44Megan: I love, you know.
- 39:45Megan: shift workers, especially like nurses.
- 39:47Megan: I'm like, listen, you don't have a lot of room for error.
- 39:48Megan: Where we can be 80 20, you need to be 90 10, 95 5.
- 39:52Megan: Like, that's just the way if you're, if you're gonna, yeah, just where you're at right now.
- 39:56Megan: That shouldn't be limiting.
- 39:57Megan: That shouldn't be empowering.
- 39:58Megan: That should make you feel good.
- 39:59Megan: Like if you're not gonna get as good of a sleep, like let's really hone in and make sure that your blood sugar is super steady and that we're really taking care of you.
- 40:06Megan: Your stress..
- 40:07Megan: Like what can you do?
- 40:08Brianna: I think it is empowering to those women who've like, I've been dieting and exercising forever.
- 40:12Brianna: I've been doing everything right and I'm not seeing results It's like,
- 40:15Megan: Yeah.
- 40:16Megan: Where else can we look?
- 40:17Brianna: Wow.
- 40:18Brianna: I probably need more than four hours of sleep.
- 40:20Brianna: Great.
- 40:20Brianna: Now look what happens when I get six hours, seven hours, eight hours of sleep, you know?
- 40:24Megan: I know.
- 40:25Megan: I had someone this morning on the call who said that.
- 40:26Megan: She was like I had no idea that me waking up super early for my workout and only getting five and a half hours of sleep was what my problem was and like weird.
- 40:34Megan: Now all of a sudden I feel amazing and I'm actually like, you know, I have less bloat.
- 40:39Megan: I have less inflammation.
- 40:41Megan: Yeah, exactly.
- 40:44Brianna: I love.
- 40:45Megan: Yes.
- 40:45Baylee: with Talking about the book, what is the biggest impact that you hope this makes on people?
- 40:51Megan: Yeah, I really, I want this book to give people permission to lose weight in a way that feels really good.
- 40:59Megan: Weight loss is synonymous with negativity.
- 41:03Megan: There's a lot of shame attached to it.
- 41:05Megan: People don't really like to talk about losing weight.
- 41:07Megan: There's also a lot of you know, we just need to accept our bodies where they're at.
- 41:11Megan: Which yes, we do need to accept our bodies where they're at.
- 41:13Megan: That's an amazing movement.
- 41:15Megan: But there's also people feel guilty now for wanting to lose weight and for wanting to change their body.
- 41:20Megan: I hear a lot, like, I know I just need to accept myself from where I'm at, but I really do wanna lose weight and I want this book to make weight loss fun again.
- 41:29Megan: And not, not again.
- 41:30Megan: It never was.
- 41:31Megan: I wanna make it fun.
- 41:32Megan: I wanna make it feel good.
- 41:33Megan: I wanna make it an empowering process and get them excited to wanna do it.
- 41:38Brianna: Yeah.
- 41:39Brianna: It's funny you say that cuz that's one of our first episodes is weight loss is okay.
- 41:43Megan: Oh, that's awesome.
- 41:44Megan: Yes.
- 41:44Megan: It was actually a really good question, Baylee.
- 41:46Megan: I actually hadn't thought about that before, weirdly, so it kind of made me have to think.
- 41:51Megan: But that's definitely my answer.
- 41:52Megan: I wanna make it like, Yeah.
- 41:55Megan: Like, make it okay.
- 41:56Megan: And even more than that, when the women go through Metabolism Makeover and in the first week or two, and especially now, like week kind of three, four, and they're just so excited.
- 42:07Megan: They're like, oh my God, I get to eat like this forever.
- 42:09Megan: I mean what other point in your life when you're losing weight?
- 42:12Megan: Do you say that?
- 42:13Megan: Are you like, this is awesome.
- 42:14Megan: I can't wait to do this for the rest of my life.
- 42:16Brianna: Yeah.
- 42:16Brianna: I'm no, I'm no longer thinking about food all day, and I'm feeling amazing.
- 42:20Brianna: Like, what is this?
- 42:21Brianna: I didn't know this was possible.
- 42:22Brianna: Yeah.
- 42:22Baylee: I always think about it too, is that we see so many diets and programs.
- 42:25Baylee: They're always like, it's a lifestyle change.
- 42:27Baylee: It's this, but what we're teaching, this is actually a lifestyle change, like getting to enjoy all the foods you want, being able to have no guilt around social events and going out with your friends.
- 42:39Baylee: That's a lifestyle change.
- 42:40Baylee: A lifestyle change isn't eating out of containers or taking these specific fat burning pills or whatever they're claiming to be this lifestyle change, a lifestyle change is learning how your body works And what you, can Do to work with your body and enjoy your life.
- 42:58Brianna: And there's no rules.
- 42:58Brianna: like do.
- 42:59Brianna: whatever you want.
- 42:59Brianna: If you wanna eat the whole package of Oreos, do it.
- 43:02Brianna: Like we're telling you what it does to your body.
- 43:04Brianna: You get to decide.
- 43:05Brianna: I'm, not gonna eat the whole package.
- 43:07Brianna: Not because I'm not supposed to but I'm not gonna eat it cuz you know what?
- 43:11Brianna: I actually don't wanna wake up feeling like crap in the morning.
- 43:13Brianna: So, you know, and you know, what?
- 43:14Brianna: I can have, I can have Oreos tomorrow and it's not the end of the world.
- 43:17Brianna: Like keep it moving.
- 43:18Brianna: So that's an actual
- 43:19Megan: lifestyle.
- 43:20Megan: I love to tell people you're an adult.
- 43:21Megan: Like when they say, can I eat this?
- 43:22Megan: I'm like, you're an adult.
- 43:23Megan: You can Do whatever you want, but this is how you're gonna feel.
- 43:25Megan: This is what's gonna happen.
- 43:26Megan: And now you get to make the decision and decide what you're gonna do after if you do
- 43:31Brianna: exactly.
- 43:32Brianna: Which people do well with.
- 43:34Brianna: People do well with that, We like to make our own choices.
- 43:37Brianna: We think we don't, like I said at the beginning, we
- 43:38Megan: Yeah.
- 43:39Brianna: we do.
- 43:39Brianna: It's like, you know, you tell the little kid, don't touch it.
- 43:42Brianna: Like now I'm, they're gonna wanna touch it.
- 43:44Brianna: I'm telling people they can't eat things, and then that's all they're gonna want to eat.
- 43:47Brianna: and then we're upset about it.
- 43:48Brianna: It's strange.
- 43:49Baylee: Yeah.
- 43:50Baylee: Well Thank you Megan
- 43:52Megan: You're welcome.
- 43:52Megan: thank you for having me.
- 43:53Baylee: This was so good.
- 43:55Baylee: We do have one last question for you.
- 43:57Baylee: So I think all of us can kind of relate that we are almost the last resort for many people looking for weight loss.
- 44:04Baylee: So they come to us, they're like, nothing has worked.
- 44:06Baylee: I don't know what to do.
- 44:07Baylee: I'm at the point, I just wanna starve myself.
- 44:08Baylee: So what would be your last words of advice to people like that who just feel like nothing works.
- 44:14Baylee: They're never going to see results and they just need to starve
- 44:17Brianna: this is gonna be good.
- 44:18Brianna: I have a feeling.
- 44:20Brianna: I always love these.
- 44:22Megan: First of all, you know, I think if you're in a place where you feel like nothing is going to work And you just need to accept where you are you have very likely came to that point because you continue to do the same things over and over and over and over again, and you keep failing at it.
- 44:42Megan: And we all know, of course, that the definition of insanity is continuing to do the same thing without actually, you know, seeing a different result.
- 44:49Megan: And so I would challenge that person to try something different.
- 44:52Megan: when you focus on your body and your actual metabolic health you can't fail.
- 45:00Megan: That's not something that you can fail at, because I think the most important part here is not focusing on the weight loss and I'm fully supportive of anyone who wants to lose weight.
- 45:11Megan: We are here for that.
- 45:12Megan: We can help you with that But when you take your, Focus off of weight loss And you kind of like zoom out and you think about, Yourself 10 years from now, 20 years from now, and you really hone in on like how You wanna feel when you're 50, 60, 70, 80 years old, you are going to take such a different perspective for overall health and wellness.
- 45:31Megan: So, you know, really hone in, no one is gonna lose if you're focused on blood sugar control.
- 45:38Megan: No one is gonna lose if you get into the gym and you start lifting weights, you just do those two.
- 45:43Megan: You are going to have a longer lifespan, like there is no doubt about it.
- 45:47Megan: And once you have that down, work on your mobility, work on your movement, make sure that you're sleeping eight hours a night.
- 45:53Megan: Focus on your stress management.
- 45:54Megan: Take these things that I'm talking about here one by one, and start implementing them into your life.
- 46:00Megan: And again, there's no way that you can lose if you do that for six months, one by one, take each pillar and work on it for a month and just hone in on it for one month and nothing else.
- 46:12Megan: You do that for six months and you still feel the same.
- 46:15Megan: You haven't lost a single pound.
- 46:17Megan: Well, in that case, there is something else going on in your body that we need to take a look at.
- 46:22Megan: And I think that's what's so empowering about this is because in Metabolism Makeover I'm giving you the foundations for your metabolic health, and if those foundations are not moving the needle at all, then there is something going on and we need to do blood work and we might need to look at your, gut, look at your mineral status.
- 46:40Megan: Like, I don't know.
- 46:41Megan: There's a lot of different things that we can look at, but there is an answer, like there is a reason why that you are not seeing results.
- 46:48Megan: And I think.
- 46:50Megan: Just, you know, don't give up.
- 46:51Baylee: Yes, that was a perfect answer.
- 46:53Baylee: That's exactly what we needed.
- 46:54Brianna: Yeah.
- 46:55Brianna: I love it.
- 46:55Brianna: You're not gonna fail.
- 46:57Brianna: You're
- 46:57Megan: no, you're not gonna.
- 46:58Brianna: making yourself feel better
- 46:59Baylee: Yes.
- 47:00Baylee: Yes.
- 47:00Baylee: And just like you said, there's always a reason why you're not seeing results too.
- 47:04Baylee: And even for me personally, I could not figure out why I was still dragging a little bit every day, always been a little bit fatigued, kind of like I was in slow motion.
- 47:11Baylee: So I actually did an htma test and it revealed so much.
- 47:16Baylee: I'm like, okay, well this makes sense.
- 47:17Baylee: There's a reason why.
- 47:17Baylee: So there's always a reason for something.
- 47:20Brianna: I purposely won't do that right now cuz I already know.
- 47:23Megan: Yeah.
- 47:24Megan: You're like, yeah.
- 47:25Megan: It's kind of like when we have pregnant women or women who are breastfeeding, it's like, don't, don't do this now.
- 47:29Megan: Just don't, like, that's just dumb.
- 47:30Megan: Like, come
- 47:31Brianna: not, yeah, it's not the place for you right now.
- 47:34Brianna: We all know, but it's nice to know that like, Hey, I can do X, Y, and Z and feel better.
- 47:38Brianna: And when I'm not in this season of life, I know I'm gonna feel even better.
- 47:41Brianna: I'm not broken.
- 47:43Megan: Yes, yes.
- 47:45Baylee: Yes.
- 47:45Baylee: So Megan, if people aren't following you right now, can you share where they can find you?
- 47:49Megan: Yeah, of course.
- 47:50Megan: So I'm@megan.the.dietitian um, on Instagram, Megan dot the dietitian.
- 47:55Megan: My program account is at the Metabolism Makeover and then we're at metabolism makeover.co not.com for our website.
- 48:04Baylee: Sounds good.
- 48:06Baylee: Well, thank you everyone for joining Mocktail Minutes, and we'll see you next week!
- 48:10Brianna: We'll See ya.
