Transcript
- 0:16Speaker 1: What's going on everyone?
- 0:18Speaker 2: Emily there, you are listening to five Minute Friday from Hurdle.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, Oh my goodness, Oh my goodness, what
- 0:24Speaker 2: a week. I am a sleepy human. I am a
- 0:29Speaker 2: sleepy human, and after sharing a little bit of what
- 0:32Speaker 2: I'm going through last week on the show, I'm sure
- 0:36Speaker 2: you can understand why. For those that are just catching up,
- 0:39Speaker 2: I am in the final phases of prepping for an
- 0:44Speaker 2: egg retrieval at the top of next week, and I
- 0:48Speaker 2: am looking forward to feeling like my normal self again soon.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I've had a lot of fun.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I don't know fun is the right word, but I've
- 0:59Speaker 2: really enjoyed chatting with a lot of you about your experiences,
- 1:03Speaker 2: whether that be in the DM or over email. And
- 1:06Speaker 2: I appreciate you since yapping last week. For those that
- 1:11Speaker 2: came in and shared positive experiences with me, it's been
- 1:16Speaker 2: it's been really nice to connect with. That said, it's
- 1:19Speaker 2: also been really nice for me to connect with myself.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I am someone who is very much go, go go,
- 1:28Speaker 2: whether that's with work or just my schedule. I am
- 1:32Speaker 2: not someone that's good at sitting still necessarily, and this
- 1:38Speaker 2: week has involved a lot. That's an understatement of sitting
- 1:43Speaker 2: still and being a bit slower. I have been making
- 1:48Speaker 2: an effort to walk almost every day, albeit quite slowly,
- 1:54Speaker 2: as things are feeling all sorts of weird in my
- 1:56Speaker 2: body at the moment. I have been spending time on
- 2:00Speaker 2: my couch. I've been reconnecting with friends. I've been doing
- 2:03Speaker 2: five thirty pm dinners and crashing by eight thirty at night,
- 2:08Speaker 2: and it's been really nice.
- 2:12Speaker 1: It's been one of those.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Moments that reminds me of the importance of recharging, of
- 2:17Speaker 2: the importance of recovery, knowing that it's better not to
- 2:23Speaker 2: be always performing at a six or a seven, but
- 2:27Speaker 2: rather to go all in when you can, giving it
- 2:31Speaker 2: the best you can with what you have, in favor
- 2:36Speaker 2: of hitting an eight, nine, ten, and then making that
- 2:41Speaker 2: an interval, making life a series of high performing moments,
- 2:46Speaker 2: knowing that there is a reprieve when available on the
- 2:51Speaker 2: other side. For me right now, what has also been
- 2:56Speaker 2: really soul filling is going offline. I over the last
- 3:03Speaker 2: week have done a few different art projects. Last weekend,
- 3:06Speaker 2: on Sunday, a good friend and I sat down at
- 3:10Speaker 2: a bar down the street and I sipped a cappuccino
- 3:13Speaker 2: while she sipped a glass of red wine and we
- 3:17Speaker 2: colored by numbers and that was a lot of fun.
- 3:19Speaker 2: And then earlier this week I sat down at another
- 3:23Speaker 2: cafe and spent some time reading. I. Like I said,
- 3:28Speaker 2: I've been going on walks, I've been doing a lot
- 3:29Speaker 2: of things offline, and I am remembering how soul filling
- 3:33Speaker 2: this is, how great it is to take time to
- 3:37Speaker 2: properly disconnect.
- 3:40Speaker 1: I know there's a bit of an eye roll.
- 3:41Speaker 2: When someone says something along the lines of everything is
- 3:45Speaker 2: happening for a reason. And while I may not be
- 3:48Speaker 2: going that route this week, what I want to say
- 3:51Speaker 2: is that everything is happening for you.
- 3:53Speaker 1: I get to choose my perspective.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I get to look at this scenario and ask myself,
- 4:00Speaker 2: what is the good here, what is the purpose of this,
- 4:04Speaker 2: what is it teaching me? And choose to receive the
- 4:07Speaker 2: lessons that is all up to me. And so I
- 4:12Speaker 2: do believe that this opportunity to disconnect, this opportunity to
- 4:15Speaker 2: slow down, the opportunity to think of life as intervals
- 4:19Speaker 2: and not just one long sprint, that is a really
- 4:23Speaker 2: beautiful silver lining to this week for me, one that
- 4:27Speaker 2: I am happy to share with you and hopes that
- 4:30Speaker 2: it helps you to evaluate what's going on with your
- 4:33Speaker 2: pacing strategy, if you will, with the way that you
- 4:36Speaker 2: think about your day to day, the intervals, the time offline,
- 4:40Speaker 2: and so on. My listener prompt, my thought prompt for
- 4:45Speaker 2: you this week is actually some words of encouragement. What
- 4:50Speaker 2: are two things you can program into your weekend that
- 4:54Speaker 2: will guarantee to bring you joy. This is something I'm
- 4:57Speaker 2: thinking about right now. I have a few things that
- 4:59Speaker 2: are up in the air, including the scheduling of a
- 5:02Speaker 2: doctor's appointment, But I am looking at the weekend and
- 5:05Speaker 2: asking myself, how can I find some guaranteed joy this
- 5:09Speaker 2: weekend without judging the circumstance, without being perhaps frustrated about
- 5:16Speaker 2: the things that I cannot do, but rather embracing what
- 5:19Speaker 2: is Where can I find the joy? That is what
- 5:22Speaker 2: I want you to ask yourself. Program in two moments
- 5:26Speaker 2: of joy for your weekend. And now a listener question. Hi, Emily,
- 5:32Speaker 2: my name is Paige. I love watching snippets from your
- 5:34Speaker 2: morning routine and admire how productive you are.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Do you have any apps or tools that you use
- 5:40Speaker 2: to help you with your mornings or is this all
- 5:43Speaker 2: on autopilot at this point? I've been aspiring to create
- 5:46Speaker 2: a solid morning routine forever and feel like I just
- 5:50Speaker 2: can't get something to stick. Oh this is good. Thanks Page,
- 5:54Speaker 2: and thank you again for your question. If you are
- 5:57Speaker 2: listening to this and you want your question answer on
- 6:00Speaker 2: an upcoming episode of Five Minute Friday on Hurdle, email
- 6:04Speaker 2: me over at Hello at Hurdle dot us. You can
- 6:06Speaker 2: also feel free to DM me. I'm always checking those
- 6:10Speaker 2: out at Hurdle Podcasts and me over at emily A
- 6:14Speaker 2: body tools apps. Apps that I use in my morning routine.
- 6:19Speaker 2: I would say there are three of them. I use
- 6:22Speaker 2: Open for meditation and breath work. I use Strava if
- 6:25Speaker 2: I'm going out on a run, and if I'm going
- 6:27Speaker 2: to do strength training, I use the Future app.
- 6:31Speaker 1: I will link all of those in the show notes.
- 6:34Speaker 2: But with that said, I try to keep my morning routine,
- 6:38Speaker 2: especially before I walk out the front door, to be
- 6:42Speaker 2: as tech free as possible. My best days, I don't
- 6:46Speaker 2: touch my phone until I'm truly getting ready to leave.
- 6:50Speaker 1: So what does that mean?
- 6:52Speaker 2: It means that I actually have the Open app on
- 6:55Speaker 2: my iPad, which I now truly think of my iPad
- 6:59Speaker 2: as a calm device. It sounds a little bit silly, sure,
- 7:03Speaker 2: but opens on my iPad, so I.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Don't need to reach for my cell phone.
- 7:06Speaker 2: My iPad doesn't have connectivity to a lot of the
- 7:09Speaker 2: things that are on my cell phone, so I'm not
- 7:11Speaker 2: getting overwhelmed or thrown off by notifications that might be
- 7:15Speaker 2: there instead of doing what I want to do, which
- 7:17Speaker 2: is open this breath work app. And then I'm using
- 7:21Speaker 2: an alarm clock in the morning that is one of
- 7:23Speaker 2: those Casper lights that you flip over and set the
- 7:28Speaker 2: time using their app the day before. Mine's just set
- 7:31Speaker 2: always at six point fifteen. More often than not, I'm
- 7:34Speaker 2: awake before that light starts to turn on and do
- 7:36Speaker 2: its thing, and so I'll just flip it over and
- 7:38Speaker 2: turn it off.
- 7:39Speaker 1: I'm sitting here explaining this and.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Making hand gestures which you cannot see, so I know
- 7:43Speaker 2: they are not helpful, but I really really appreciate the
- 7:47Speaker 2: soft wake that comes with natural light and transparently. At first,
- 7:51Speaker 2: I was a bit nervous about the fact that I
- 7:53Speaker 2: wouldn't be waking up with this just the light, no noise.
- 7:57Speaker 1: But it's been great. It's been really great. I digress.
- 8:00Speaker 2: I find that being as tech free as possible in
- 8:03Speaker 2: the morning is the best gift that I can give
- 8:05Speaker 2: to myself. I'm sure there are many different apps and
- 8:10Speaker 2: tools that you can use to create a more sustainable routine,
- 8:16Speaker 2: and I encourage you to find the things that make
- 8:18Speaker 2: you feel good. But for me, what feels good is
- 8:22Speaker 2: being as tech free as possible, sitting down and writing
- 8:25Speaker 2: in my journal, doing the breath work, making my bed,
- 8:29Speaker 2: having my coffee, taking some time for me and only me.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Before that energy output requires that I navigate a sea
- 8:38Speaker 2: of other things.
- 8:40Speaker 1: I hope this is helpful.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Again. I want your listener questions. Email me over at
- 8:44Speaker 2: Hello at Hurdle dot us. One more time for the
- 8:49Speaker 2: people in the back. I'm over at Emily Body and
- 8:52Speaker 2: at Hurdle Podcast. Another Hurdle conquered. Catch you guys next time.
