- 0:07to the e-Commerce podcast.
- 0:09Yes, you are.
- 0:10Uh, I've been in e-commerce since 2002, and these days I partner with e-commerce

- 0:18And if you'd like to know more about how that works, uh, and if we could actually
- 0:21work together, head over to the website ecommercepodcast.net, where you'll find
- 0:26all kinds of information about that.
- 0:28And also.
- 0:28All kinds of information about the show, all the past episodes, the
- 0:32hundreds of them that we've been doing this, now it's like six years.
- 0:35Can you believe it?
- 0:36Uh, so there's a lot of cool content on there.
- 0:39Uh, so you can check that out at ecommercepodcast.net.
- 0:42Uh, it'd be great to see you on that site.
- 0:44So do come join us now today.
- 0:48I'm talking to Shauli all the way from New York who has braved the ills, uh,
- 0:54and swallowed some modern medicine and forced himself to come onto the show.
- 0:58Uh, what a trooper this, uh, chap is, uh, Shauli.
- 1:02Welcome to the show, man.
- 1:02Great to have you.
- 1:03Uh, I would ask you how you're doing, but it's, uh, it's, it,
- 1:06it, it's, it's kind of okay.
- 1:09Yeah, exactly.
- 1:09Getting better.
- 1:10Getting better.
- 1:11Uh, thanks for having me.
- 1:12It's uh, it's a retreat.
- 1:14Um, real honor.
- 1:15Uh, so thank you.
- 1:16No, no, it's great to be here.
- 1:18Now.
- 1:18We were, we were talking, uh, Shauli before we hit the record button.
- 1:23Uh oh.
- 1:23By the way, ladies and gentlemen, lemme just say, uh, before we get into this,
- 1:26if you, um, if you are watching this, uh, on YouTube, you are gonna go, Matt,
- 1:32you're not wearing your usual clothing.
- 1:34I'm in fact wearing, uh, a Kansas City Chief's.
- 1:38Super Bowl winning Jersey.
- 1:40And uh, is that because I'm a Kansas City Chiefs fan?
- 1:42Well, yeah, why not?
- 1:43You know, living in England, we like American football.
- 1:46Uh, but the, a good friend of the show, he's been on the show before
- 1:50and a really good friend of mine now, Brett Curry, um, from OMG Commerce sent
- 1:55me this and it arrived this morning.
- 1:56He sent one for me and one for my daughter.
- 1:58So we have matching Kansas City.
- 2:00Chief's football chose, so I thought I'd wear it in honor of him.
- 2:04And just give a brief shout out.
- 2:06Brett, you are a legend.
- 2:07Thank you so much for my shirt.
- 2:09Uh, we always like Gifts and Brett sent, sent me in the one for Zoe.
- 2:13So yeah, thank you very much.
- 2:14Anyway, that, sorry, Shauli, I just got a bit carried away there.
- 2:17I, I realized, uh, with the, with the screen, I'm like, oh, visually things
- 2:21are a little bit different today.
- 2:22Um, and by the way, are you a Chiefs fan?
- 2:25Do you do American football?
- 2:26Am I offending you?
- 2:27Wearing this top?
- 2:28You are not offending me, actually.
- 2:29Um, I'm getting into American football.
- 2:32Uh, so this is something I'm, you know, always been a soccer fan, but,
- 2:36uh, soccer or English football fan.
- 2:39But this is, I'm doing my first steps into American football.
- 2:41I love, I love that.
- 2:42So far I'm still trying to get, understand the different teams and so on.
- 2:47Uh, I live in New York, so I'm, you know, more of a Giants fan here, but, uh, or
- 2:52like started, but uh, yeah, it's, uh, it's
- 2:55fascinating actually.
- 2:55Yeah.
- 2:56I watched like last Super Bowl.
- 2:58Loved it.
- 2:59It was,
- 2:59uh, uh, I would say great time with friends and family, so it was nice.
- 3:04Yeah.
- 3:04Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 3:06Yeah.
- 3:06And And can I ask what English team you support though?
- 3:09Actually real football.
- 3:10'cause we played with our feet, but that's the next sense of question.
- 3:12We will, we will not get into right now.
- 3:15Arsenal,
- 3:15Awesome.
- 3:16Well it is been great having you on the show.
- 3:18Thanks for joining us.
- 3:20Arsenal.
- 3:22Uh, if you don't, if you don't know, uh, already I'm a big Liverpool fan.
- 3:26I'm sure you're, I mean,
- 3:27you.
- 3:27live in Liverpool.
- 3:28Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:28So, yeah, it's, the reason why I chose to live in Liverpool was
- 3:32because of the football team.
- 3:33Right.
- 3:34Okay,
- 3:35So, which is, I, I thought was as good a reason as any to, to choose where to live.
- 3:40so you're not born, raised in Liverpool.
- 3:42no.
- 3:42No.
- 3:43Uh, if I was born and raised in Liverpool, I'd probably be talking like deese.
- 3:47Exactly.
- 3:48Um, and so, no, I've lived here 32 years, 33 years now.
- 3:52Actually a long old time.
- 3:53Came for university and have sort of stayed.
- 3:55Um, but yeah.
- 3:57Anyway, we digress.
- 3:58Let's jump into it.
- 3:59Uh, enough about football, all those, I could talk about it all day.
- 4:03Um.
- 4:05So you are in New York.
- 4:07SalesRep.ai is the name of your company, so guess what they do, ladies
- 4:11and gentlemen, AI is in the title.
- 4:12Um, and we were hit talking before we hit record and before I started this
- 4:17whole rabbit trail, um, about how, you know, you obviously work with a whole
- 4:22bunch of people around the world, various different sizes of E-com businesses,
- 4:27and I asked you a simple question if you could solve like the, what is
- 4:30the key problem, you know, the common problem that everyone comes to you with.
- 4:35Uh, what would that be?
- 4:36And Shauli, your answer was,
- 4:39Helping with sales, basically increasing sales.
- 4:41That's number one.
- 4:42Uh, um, number one problem that we're trying to help merchant is to increase
- 4:47their top line and get more revenue into, you know, into their businesses.
- 4:51Um, just wanna say one correction.
- 4:53My, uh, the company name company's name is, uh, Rep AI.
- 4:57It's, hellorep.ai
- 4:59uh,
- 4:59what did I say?
- 5:01sales reps.
- 5:01It's fine.
- 5:02It's not a big deal.
- 5:03You know what?
- 5:03I've even got your website right in front of me.
- 5:07I'm really sorry.
- 5:08I ladies, gentlemen, I should probably go get my glasses
- 5:10checked, I think is the, uh,
- 5:12okay.
- 5:12That's okay.
- 5:13Uh, don't ever make I'm mistake again,
- 5:15yeah,
- 5:18yeah.
- 5:18We've got your address, dude.
- 5:24Yeah.
- 5:27Oh wow.
- 5:28That's unbelievable.
- 5:29Sorry.
- 5:29hellorep.Ai, I'm, very sorry.
- 5:31exactly.
- 5:32It's, it's all good.
- 5:32It's all good.
- 5:33Uh, so yeah, the number one problem we saw.
- 5:36My co-founder and I five years ago, uh, you know, we were big
- 5:40fans of the e-commerce space.
- 5:42Always.
- 5:42Uh, there, my co-founder has been in, uh, agencies and helping,
- 5:46uh, retail brands forever.
- 5:48Um, I come from the tech side and the number one problem we saw five
- 5:53years going back is that we love the experience of brick and mortar stores.
- 5:58How you go into a brick and mortar store, you get.
- 6:00Concierge help, white glove support, uh, someone helping you with
- 6:04whatever you need, recommending products, answering any questions.
- 6:08And when you dive into an e-commerce online store, you're there by yourself.
- 6:12No one's there to help you.
- 6:14You know, there's images nice.
- 6:15There might be, you know, personalized, but that's where you go, right?
- 6:19All you have are the, the search and, uh, the menu.
- 6:22That's it.
- 6:23And then we thought to ourselves, how amazing would it be if we can bring
- 6:27that experience from brick and mortar, like really simulate the brick and
- 6:31mortar experience, bring it online.
- 6:33And, you know, you obviously can't do that with people because it's just
- 6:37gonna be a lot of people doing that role for any visitor that comes in.
- 6:40And we said, okay, how if we can bring AI to, uh, to the, to the mix and
- 6:45give that, uh, give that experience and really treat the AI or train the
- 6:48AI to do the exact, the same stuff.
- 6:51As, uh, brick and mortar sales assistant would do.
- 6:54And that's where we came with the idea.
- 6:56Uh, two years in of developing the, the, uh, technology, ChatGPT came on with,
- 7:02uh, their amazing AI and let us actually like, um, wave or ride their engine and
- 7:07give that experience to, uh, to merchants.
- 7:10So we came out with our solution in 2023 and ever since, uh, it's been amazing.
- 7:162023. It's only yesterday.
- 7:20It feels like decades ago in the world of AI because it's
- 7:23changed so much since 2023.
- 7:26And this is really, um, is, this is sort of the philosophical question, isn't it?
- 7:30About what you guys do, um, and whether an e-commerce site needs it.
- 7:34'cause you're right, I think about the amount of e-commerce websites
- 7:38I go to and I don't know them.
- 7:42I have no feel for them.
- 7:44I. Either like their product or I don't.
- 7:47I'm, and one of the questions that we have wrestled with, I think
- 7:50in e-commerce over the years is, how do I connect with customers?
- 7:53So you have a lot of founder facing brands who do crazy videos or do the social
- 7:58media just to have that connection, you know, uh, with their, their customers.
- 8:04But you're right in the sense of whenever I go into a brick and mortar store.
- 8:10Especially actually, if that brick and mortar store is in the states, it, it,
- 8:14sometimes in the uk but certainly in the states, somebody's gonna come up to me
- 8:17and go, Hey, how can I help you today?
- 8:20Um, or some variant of that question, aren't they?
- 8:23And if they're, if they're likable, if they're personable, if they kind
- 8:26of know what they're doing, they're probably gonna engage me pretty well.
- 8:30At some point I'm gonna buy something.
- 8:33A good example of this Shauli, actually, uh, last weekend I was up
- 8:38visiting my son in St. Andrews, um, and his fiance, uh, up at, um, the very
- 8:43famous, uh, golfing town in Scotland.
- 8:47And I wanted to buy a gift, uh, for our host family.
- 8:50They like gin.
- 8:51So there's this really lovely kind of, uh, have you ever been
- 8:54to St. Andrew's by the way?
- 8:55No.
- 8:56No.
- 8:56Okay.
- 8:57There's this beautiful kind of whiskeys shop at the end of the
- 9:00street, and I, I, every time I go, I, I go there and I just walked in.
- 9:04He said, how can I help you?
- 9:05And I was like, I just need some gin.
- 9:07And he said, go talk to that fellow over there.
- 9:09And this, this guy just talked to me about gin for like 15 minutes and I
- 9:14ended up buying not one bottle, but two.
- 9:17And I tried all his variant gins and I'm a bit of a, I, I like his stuff,
- 9:21but that would've never happened.
- 9:24On an e-commerce website, right?
- 9:26You kind of, you look at the label, you look at the price.
- 9:28Do I want it yes or no?
- 9:29I dunno if I do, but, um, because of that personal interaction, I think
- 9:34it changed my shopping experience.
- 9:36And I've always, the reason I go into that shop is not because it's the
- 9:39cheapest, but because every time I've gone in, the guys just talk to you, uh,
- 9:43and make you feel welcome and give you some good pro product recommendation.
- 9:47So I love what you are trying to do and how you then do
- 9:50that on e-commerce websites.
- 9:52'cause people have been trying that.
- 9:53In various different gise, uh, for years, and it seems like this is
- 9:59perhaps one of the key benefits of AI for e-commerce owners.
- 10:05Yeah, no, totally.
- 10:06So, um, I think obviously it wouldn't be able to to happen without ai.
- 10:10So AI is the key, uh, driver for this, for this to, to happen.
- 10:15There's no doubt that, uh, what, what drives that higher conversion rate
- 10:20is the, the level of personalization that, um, that you get from the sales
- 10:25assistant, from the AI in the end.
- 10:27So what we do is that we track, uh, the behavior of customers from
- 10:31the moment they, they walk into the website, the moment they log in,
- 10:34the moment they, they hit the, the, you know, enter through a campaign.
- 10:38The moment.
- 10:39They're, they're on the website.
- 10:40We start tracking everything they're doing to, to build a
- 10:43customer profile basically on them.
- 10:45So to understand exactly what they're interested in and what
- 10:49happens in the background.
- 10:50Uh, the AI tries to evaluate if.
- 10:53This customer will end up buying by itself, by him himself, or herself, or
- 10:57if that customer needs some assistance.
- 11:00And, and when the AI gets that signal that the, this customer will not buy the AI
- 11:05approaches that customer with basically very similar to what the experience
- 11:08you had in that, in that, uh, a liquor shop, but with the whole context of
- 11:13what they've, what they've been doing.
- 11:14So if you were checking out gin bottle, for example.
- 11:17AI would know that.
- 11:18So the AI would come in with an approach of, Hey, we saw that you checked out
- 11:22this, uh, bottle of gin, and if you bought before, the AI would know that as well.
- 11:27And if you checked out other, uh, let's say other brands or, uh, other, uh, sorry,
- 11:31other products or other categories, other collections, the AI would know that too.
- 11:34So everything goes in, into that customer profile that's being, uh, rebuilt.
- 11:39Every, you know, every interaction or everything, you're, you as a shopper,
- 11:42you're doing, and AI comes in and that's the basis of the conversation.
- 11:47AI lu you into the conversation with that proactive approach.
- 11:50And then from that moment on, the AI will do anything in its powers, okay?
- 11:53It has a lot of powers, but anything in its powers to make sure that
- 11:56you end up as a happy customer.
- 11:58So if you need product recommendations, if you need to know the history
- 12:01of that gin distillery, for example, and that will push you in.
- 12:05Uh, to, to buy that bottle or whatever, whatever is possible, because obviously
- 12:09the AI has all the knowledge of the store, the catalog, uh, your purchase history
- 12:15and, uh, other people's purchase history.
- 12:16So it's able to recommend products that are, you know, complimentary,
- 12:20for example, or similar items.
- 12:22So it has all those tools, and again, the number one role is to make sure
- 12:26you come out as a happy customer.
- 12:28Yeah, that's fantastic.
- 12:30I'm, I'm intrigued by it, um, because it.
- 12:34I to tell you how intrigued I'm by, I, I, I, I had a slight, a slight
- 12:39moment, uh, Shauli earlier on when I was driving, uh, from the office
- 12:43back to the, the studio here.
- 12:46Um, and I, I knew you were coming on and I, I was, you know, I've got to
- 12:50the stage now where actually when we research guests, I use perplexity.
- 12:56And Perplexity has this feature where it talks to you now.
- 12:59Um, so it'll go away and it'll do a search and it'll come up with all this data.
- 13:02You press the headphone button and it just, it just reads it out to you, you
- 13:05know, and in, in quite a human manner.
- 13:09Uh, and you and I, one of my questions that I asked, and I I wanted to ask you
- 13:14this question 'cause I, I, I thought this was really fun when I realized what I'd
- 13:17done, uh, as I'm driving home, I went, well, but do humans actually trust ai?
- 13:24Um, and this is what I said to perplexity.
- 13:26I've got it up here.
- 13:27It said, do humans trust ai?
- 13:28Which is more of a philosophical question, I suppose.
- 13:31Um, but you're talking about some big upswings in buying behavior,
- 13:34which we'll get into that this kind of technology brings.
- 13:38But what is a human response to ai?
- 13:40It it, it was kind of lost on me for a minute that I was having
- 13:43this conversation with ai, right.
- 13:45Yeah.
- 13:46You can prove the point basically.
- 13:48Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:48And then I just, I, I got out and I realized, I thought,
- 13:50oh, okay, this is interesting.
- 13:52And because this is just what I do now, I quite happily chat to ai, you
- 13:56know, a significant portion of my day inhabit, read content back to me.
- 14:00Um, or if I'm going on a walk, I'll just have a chat with ai.
- 14:03And it seems like.
- 14:07Humanity is getting more and more accepting of the, sort of the AI features.
- 14:12Uh, and I I wanted to sort of start there a little bit because
- 14:15I know you, your company started earlier than 2023, but obviously
- 14:19you connected with chat GPT in 2023.
- 14:22How have you found people's response to this?
- 14:27To AI or to, to the, um, to our solution in gen, like in specific
- 14:31our solution or AI in general.
- 14:32Yeah, specifically to your solution.
- 14:34'cause obviously that's where you've got the data.
- 14:35I mean, you are using AI now to drive that and I'm, I'm, I'm curious to know what,
- 14:40how people are responding now with the,
- 14:43So we definitely saw a huge transformation along the years.
- 14:46We started with 2020 where, you know, we went to customers and
- 14:50said, Hey, what about the idea of having your AI on your website?
- 14:53And a lot of the, a lot of the, you know, response we got was, uh, uh, oh,
- 14:58AI is never gonna be a thing, you know?
- 15:01We don't,
- 15:02Along with Bitcoin, that's never gonna take off either, right?
- 15:05yeah, or we said, uh, and they said, okay, yeah.
- 15:08How do you, you know, how do you, uh, envision that?
- 15:11And we try to under explain it would be a chat on the website
- 15:15and people said, a chat, AI chat.
- 15:18No way.
- 15:19That's, again, that's not never gonna be a thing that's a. Complete
- 15:23failure, you should go to voice.
- 15:24'cause Alexa is the next thing, by the way.
- 15:26So we had a, you know, a moment where we thought, okay, should we try to
- 15:30have the same solution on Alexa?
- 15:32Um, and basically allow brands to have an app on Alexa.
- 15:36That was
- 15:37part of the path we took.
- 15:38Uh, but we strongly believed in AI chats on, uh, on the websites.
- 15:43'cause we, you know, we had this, um, I would say vision
- 15:46that AI chat would be the thing.
- 15:48So we saw this big transformation from merchants that are.
- 15:52Uh, not believing at all to merchants that, uh, all of a
- 15:56sudden saying, Hey, we, we would be happy to be early adopters here.
- 15:59It's looks cool.
- 16:00Might be the future.
- 16:01Let's try it out to obviously today that, you know, we see huge brands,
- 16:05enterprise brands that are coming to the realization, okay, we need
- 16:08AI on the website and it's okay.
- 16:11That it's okay if we don't control everything.
- 16:13We would say it's
- 16:14okay letting go, because that was the biggest hurdle over the years.
- 16:17Like, is it gonna say things that we never like, uh, we're not gonna
- 16:20dictate every word it's gonna say.
- 16:23And, uh, it was hard for our big brands to, to accept that it was hard for
- 16:26s and bs to accept at the beginning.
- 16:28And now we're slowly getting to the maturity of that.
- 16:30So acceptance from merchants.
- 16:32And that's on the merchant side.
- 16:33From the shopper side, um, I would say shoppers also made, obviously
- 16:38big transformation started from.
- 16:40Think people thinking this is a human because there's no way
- 16:43the AI would speak like that.
- 16:45So they, they started speaking to humans.
- 16:47Um, and that happened a lot until a lot of our merchants, uh, a lot of our brands
- 16:52basically said, okay, let's write the word ai, because people get too confused
- 16:55and it's, and then they, they get, uh, upset when they figure out the truth.
- 16:59So they started using the word ai and then people were treating it like, um.
- 17:04A Google search.
- 17:05Red shirt.
- 17:06Red shirt.
- 17:07That's it.
- 17:08And that's what we got at the beginning.
- 17:10So people, you know, writing one word or two words, that's it.
- 17:13That's the, the most that, uh, they looked at it as, as a search, um, search bar.
- 17:17And we seeing that the full transformation today were people
- 17:22are basically giving them the ai, the full life story and it's okay.
- 17:27All their problems and how they were fighting with their wives and, and.
- 17:31And the AI listens, so it's okay.
- 17:34And, uh, they, I don't think they would treat the same.
- 17:37They treat humans the same way.
- 17:38I don't think they would be that open
- 17:40with writing everything.
- 17:41And if it's, um, you know, if it's products that are, you know, a bit
- 17:45sensitive or sizes that are a bit sensitive, they're okay with telling
- 17:48the ai they're, you know, they're, they're sizes and everything.
- 17:51And, uh, it's been amazing to see that that full adoption, that that happened.
- 17:56It's interesting you say that because, um, research here that
- 18:01I've got in front of me, what drives human trust in AI chatbots?
- 18:05Uh, there's four key areas that it says.
- 18:08One is, um.
- 18:11the technology has got better.
- 18:12The reliability and competence of that technology has also got better.
- 18:17And I think if you can connect that with integrity so you feel
- 18:21like actually this thing's on your side somehow you, you do well.
- 18:26Um, one of the things they said, which this is the, the, this connects with
- 18:30the two things that you've just said.
- 18:31And I, I'm, this really intrigued me because.
- 18:35They said one of the things was perceived empathy.
- 18:37Chatbots that seemed to understand and respond to user emotions, foster a
- 18:42stronger sense of trust and engagement, and the non-judgmental nature of chatbots.
- 18:49So you talked about putting your sizes in.
- 18:51Many people feel more comfortable disclosing personal or sensitive
- 18:54information to chatbots than to humans, as AI is seen as a lot
- 18:59less judgmental and more anonymous.
- 19:02Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:04Which is, uh, pretty amazing.
- 19:06Yeah.
- 19:06I, I thought that was really intriguing, the fact that you've mentioned that.
- 19:08I, I, you see, they're, they're the things that I, I, I would've gone.
- 19:12Yeah.
- 19:12Well, it's gonna get me to my end point on the user journey quicker.
- 19:15'cause it's gonna, I mean, but the, these soft things, you know,
- 19:19like empathy and non-judgmental nature, make a big difference.
- 19:24But how you quantify that, I have no idea.
- 19:27You know, and I, I think it's quite fascinating that this is what's
- 19:30coming out in the research now.
- 19:32Yeah, so I think it's from the, the merchant perspective, it's
- 19:36quantified by top line revenue.
- 19:37That's pretty much it.
- 19:39Uh, saying in the end, seeing in the end that there's more revenue,
- 19:43there's bigger lifetime value as well.
- 19:45So, uh, and seeing all that actually happening and being able
- 19:49to test it and AB tested as well.
- 19:51So being able to say, Hey, this is actually increasing my revenue.
- 19:55I can see that before and after.
- 19:56Um, and yeah, there's, uh, there's no doubt that it's working.
- 20:01So if I wanted to, um, get started maybe with something like, you
- 20:08know, like what you guys do,
- 20:12let's go through some of the, the sort of the, the technical side
- 20:14of things, Shauli, if we can like.
- 20:16Yeah.
- 20:17Do I need to have like a certain data set?
- 20:21Do I need to be a 'cause years ago, I'd say a few years ago, years ago, like
- 20:25it was decades last week, last Tuesday, you needed a really big data set.
- 20:30And the more data you had, the more accurate it was.
- 20:32'cause that was all based on machine learning.
- 20:34Um.
- 20:36Do we still need big data sets?
- 20:38Is this something that would resonate for a smaller e-commerce brand?
- 20:41Does it work specifically for, say, clothing brands?
- 20:44But if you're a single product site, does it work as well?
- 20:47What, what sort of things have you found work really well,
- 20:51um, with the, the AI system?
- 20:54It's a great question.
- 20:55I get that question all the time.
- 20:57So, um.
- 20:58People ask, Hey, is I have only one product?
- 21:00Does that mean that, uh, I don't need it as much?
- 21:03Now, the the answer I would say is like, if you open the retail store, would
- 21:08you not have shop assistance there?
- 21:10And, uh, they would say, of course I would like, you know, it's a, it's a
- 21:13mandatory thing in, in a retail store.
- 21:15There's no way to not have shop assistance because they help, they educate, they,
- 21:19they do whatever is needed to make sure that the customers, uh, in the end buy.
- 21:24And it's exactly the same.
- 21:25So if you have one product, most likely that product is going to be
- 21:29very unique product that needs some convincing, needs, some education.
- 21:34As opposed to a retail store.
- 21:35Uh, the clothing store, we have thousands of, of skews.
- 21:39Uh, it's very easy to understand, right?
- 21:41You, you see a, a shirt and that's pretty much it.
- 21:44Uh, but there's a lot of them.
- 21:46So over there
- 21:46the problem is different.
- 21:48Might be choice, paralysis, problem over a educational problem, but either way.
- 21:54Shop assistant in real life would be able to help with that.
- 21:57And same in the same way.
- 21:59AI shop assistant, it's the same, same thing.
- 22:02It helps with the same problems if there are too many products.
- 22:04Let me help you with recommendation.
- 22:06Let me help you narrow down results if there's a few products, but
- 22:10there're, let's say very expensive.
- 22:13High price points and there's a lot of convincing that has to happen.
- 22:17AI is amazing in that because it is there with its empathy and knowledge of the
- 22:21product and complete specs of the product.
- 22:24So able to under, to explain what's the difference between that and
- 22:27that, and why you should get, you know, the higher level, uh, you
- 22:31know, the better tv, for example.
- 22:33Uh, so the AI is there to, to do all that and help in any
- 22:37type of, any type of brand.
- 22:39So we actually see success.
- 22:41By all different verticals.
- 22:42So from uh, electronics to uh, to apparel to, um, dog food, anything.
- 22:51That's, um, and, and does it matter about the data set size?
- 22:57Like if I was just starting a new store today, would it work or do
- 23:01I need like a million rows of data for it to have any kind of meaning?
- 23:06No.
- 23:06So, um, also good question.
- 23:08So what we do is we connect, uh, to the retail, uh, e-commerce store.
- 23:12So Shopify Connection, one click integration.
- 23:15We already have the entire, uh, catalog ingested inside.
- 23:19Uh, same with, uh, purchase history.
- 23:21So we get and take the purchase history at the last couple of months
- 23:25to have all that data ingested to understand what people buy.
- 23:29To understand, truly understand the catalog.
- 23:31Then the AI also cross all the pages of the website, so.
- 23:35Any product pages, collection pages, uh, even block pages,
- 23:39anything to have that information.
- 23:42And that's the starting point.
- 23:43That's in one click, nothing.
- 23:45And then of course, if, uh, the, the me, if merchants want to add
- 23:49more information, they're able to add in more Excel information.
- 23:52But that's only if they, they need to and only if there's missing information.
- 23:56But to get, get going, you don't need to do, have nothing, basically
- 23:59just your, just your own website.
- 24:01That's it.
- 24:02And I guess the thing gets, uh, AI is, is one of these things that gets
- 24:05smarter the more we use it, right?
- 24:07Yeah,
- 24:08yeah.
- 24:08Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:09So it, it learns during the process.
- 24:12So a lot of things that we actually highlight is that once we start, when
- 24:16they, once the AI is on the website, uh, the engagement rate goes up and up, uh,
- 24:20and we typically see around 3% of the.
- 24:24Visitors on the website will talk to our ai.
- 24:26So that's, that's a lot of people and that brings in a lot of, uh, new
- 24:31knowledge about how shoppers, uh, buy and what they're interested in and so on.
- 24:36And also highlights missing information, things that shoppers ask about.
- 24:40And the AI doesn't have the information because it's not on the website.
- 24:44Uh, what we do is that we highlight that information in
- 24:48our, uh, management console where.
- 24:50Merchants can see, okay, people ask about this and that there's no information
- 24:53on the website to explain that at all.
- 24:55And then merchants can add that information later on using, uh, using
- 24:59the tools that we, uh, give them.
- 25:01Fantastic, fantastic.
- 25:03Ladies, gentlemen, let me just say, if you are enjoying the show, uh, and you are
- 25:07in fact in e-commerce yourself, whether you're just starting out or whether you've
- 25:11been around like me for a little while, whether you use, uh, show, Liz system
- 25:15or whether you don't, wherever you are.
- 25:17Uh, if you are in e-commerce, we have something called cohorts,
- 25:21um, which I'm a part of.
- 25:24We have a UK cohort, a US cohort just started.
- 25:29And also one in Australia.
- 25:31So, uh, New Zealand, the a NZ one, as we like to call it.
- 25:35Um, it's free to join.
- 25:37Uh, there's more information on the website, ecommercepodcast.net.
- 25:40But if you wanna come hang out with other e-commerce entrepreneurs, ask
- 25:43your questions, share your insights and thoughts, uh, then do come join us.
- 25:47It's quite a fun little place just to come and chat, meet people, and we're
- 25:50starting up new cohorts all the time.
- 25:52Um, so yeah, just go to the website, ecommercepodcast.net and, uh, find
- 25:56out more information about it.
- 25:57We'd love to see you in there.
- 25:59So Shauli, um, as you were talking, one of the things that sort of struck me, I
- 26:04suppose, was, um, was persuasion, right?
- 26:09This sort of, this old fashioned word of persuasion.
- 26:12Rob, Robert Kini, you know, the, uh, persuasion.
- 26:16Um, and if I'm selling a single product that's expensive and I
- 26:19need a, I need to persuade people.
- 26:22I can see how AI works, but I also get that there's a space for vending
- 26:26machines, you know, that sell bottled water, because that's a, that's
- 26:30not, it's not, is it a product?
- 26:31Yes, I suppose it is, but it's, it's, it's just, it's water in a bottle, isn't it?
- 26:35You don't, I don't need someone to sell me that.
- 26:36I just need a quick, easy way to just, to buy it, which I think, what is,
- 26:40what Amazon's become good at over the years, you know, that's where you go
- 26:43to if you wanna buy your equivalent of the bottle water, I think is Amazon.
- 26:47But one of the things I've noticed Amazon do.
- 26:49Uh, and I think most of us have noticed this over the last few months, is
- 26:52their AI shop assistant, haven't they?
- 26:55I, I, you know, so they're, they're obviously thinking, yeah.
- 26:57We, we, we should probably add this to our side ourselves.
- 27:00Yeah.
- 27:01Yeah, they added Rufuss.
- 27:02Yeah.
- 27:03Yeah.
- 27:03It's doing a great job.
- 27:05I wonder, I dunno if they was rufuss, the name of the guy in Bill
- 27:09and Ted's, um, excellent adventure.
- 27:11Um, the, the sort of the guy.
- 27:13Anyway, I'm just showing my age a little bit there.
- 27:15I just go, I just wondered if that's where they got the name from.
- 27:17I dunno why I thought about that.
- 27:18I just did.
- 27:19Um, but it, it strikes me that what I love with, with companies like yourself,
- 27:24Shauli, is you make technology accessible.
- 27:27So it's not just Amazon that can benefit from it.
- 27:30Now sure.
- 27:30They've got gazillions to spend on the development, you know, and,
- 27:33and, and God bless them, you know?
- 27:35Um, but you know, we, we don't have to keep giving Jeff our money, do we?
- 27:40And so what you're doing is you're leveling the playing field and making
- 27:42this, um, accessible for e-commerce.
- 27:46And this is one of the things that excites me about technology at the moment
- 27:49is, is just the ease of accessibility that we, that we have, um, and.
- 27:57I quite like that, if I'm honest with you.
- 27:59I think that's quite a nice thing to actually happen.
- 28:02Um, and so yeah, I, I appreciate you doing it.
- 28:05Um, one question, uh, I suppose that comes out of all of this, then.
- 28:12Where's it going to?
- 28:14Because at the moment, you know, we've got chatbots fairly soon we're gonna be
- 28:17talking to AI like I do with Perplexing.
- 28:19You're not gonna be able to distinguish it between a human voice and a, an AI voice.
- 28:23And then I see it is we're gonna have video calls with AI because it's crazy
- 28:28what Google can do with video now.
- 28:30And so
- 28:32in your product roadmap, where's, where's all this going to do you think?
- 28:36So the more, obviously there's more adoption towards, uh.
- 28:40Towards AI and towards, you know, towards usage of ai.
- 28:43So we're on top of that.
- 28:45And one of the things we're coming out with soon in uh, Q4 is voice to
- 28:49voice, uh, full, uh, integration.
- 28:52So you're able to shopper, you're able to just talk to the same way
- 28:55you talk to per complexity, same exact idea, uh, just on your website.
- 29:00So just.
- 29:01On e-commerce websites, that's the next thing.
- 29:03But that's like, that's very short term, uh, roadmap.
- 29:06Uh, the longer roadmap and the way I see things, uh, develop in the future
- 29:11is that there's gonna be a, a portion of the, um, there's definitely gonna
- 29:16be a portion of the traffic that actually will never go to the website,
- 29:20but we'll have a conversation, uh, you know, using perplexity, using chat pt,
- 29:25they will have to talk to the website.
- 29:28So what we're working on and started working on is, um, it's called
- 29:32an MCP Model Context Protocol.
- 29:34It's the way AI actually, uh, talk to other ai.
- 29:37Basically, uh, in some big, some portion of the traffic will actually have an agent
- 29:42to agent conversation so that the shopper will actually use its own tool, complexity
- 29:47charge pt, and that tool will speak to other agents, other agents on the website.
- 29:53What we're working on is we'll be able to represent the brand and give
- 29:56them the agent to be able to do that.
- 29:59So that's again, some portion of the traffic.
- 30:02Of course, a lot of the traffic would still come from Facebook
- 30:05campaigns, Instagram campaigns, TikTok, that's still gonna be,
- 30:08uh, that's still gonna stay there.
- 30:10But the chat or the search traffic is slowly migrating.
- 30:14People see that towards chat PT
- 30:16Mm.
- 30:17right?
- 30:18And we want to enable merchants to have their representation.
- 30:22In those platforms.
- 30:24So again, the AI of those platforms will speak to our AI that represents
- 30:28the brand, represents the merchant, and the merchant needs to make sure
- 30:31that, uh, obviously there's more, uh, more revenue for the merchant.
- 30:35This is, this is where it, it starts to get quite deep and quite fascinating.
- 30:40And so, um, and ladies, gentlemen, if you've not.
- 30:43If you've not heard of CPS before, it's worth just, actually just going
- 30:46onto YouTube and just watching a quick explain, a quick explainer video about
- 30:50what they are, um, this ability for AI to, uh, in effect talk to other
- 30:58applications or other bits of software on your behalf and get information back.
- 31:04It's kind of like APIs, but on speed in some respects, isn't it?
- 31:07It's kind of, it's the next sort of level.
- 31:12I think it's a really interesting technology if it catches on and it, and
- 31:16I see it starting to catch on and the fact that you are, uh, talking about
- 31:20this show Lee, and about developing these cps, I think is quite fascinating.
- 31:25Um, because you are right.
- 31:27It's the fact now, I mean, my fa the, the AI of choice for me is
- 31:32not actually chat GPT anymore.
- 31:33I use C Claude, I use clawed a lot and actually clawed.
- 31:37Um, were Claude the ones that sort of founded the whole MCP
- 31:40thing anyway, whichever way,
- 31:42I've integrated a whole bunch with Claude.
- 31:45I don't even have to open up my email anymore.
- 31:47I can just say to Claude, I'll just, what's in my inbox that I need to
- 31:50look at and just get rid of anything that I don't need to know about.
- 31:54I, I, and it goes away and it reads your email and he goes, well read these,
- 31:57and I've thrown those away, you know?
- 31:58Brilliant.
- 32:01It's, it's, it's the most extraordinary thing and I think.
- 32:05The fact that you, you can, you are thinking about doing that with e-commerce,
- 32:10I think is actually really quite exciting because I think you are right,
- 32:14we are using chat, GPT or Perplexity or Claudes now to research products.
- 32:20Um, and I think if there's one thing that we've learned from TikTok and one
- 32:24thing we've learned from Instagram is actually when you build these platforms.
- 32:28Make it so people can buy in the platform.
- 32:30Right.
- 32:31If you, if you really wanna monetize it, make it so people can buy in
- 32:34the platform, which Instagram we're a bit slow to do, let's be fair.
- 32:38Um, and I, I, I think it's quite extraordinary.
- 32:41So yeah, I Do you think it's going that way?
- 32:43That we will be able to buy products in our chat, GPT in our clawed models?
- 32:49Definitely, definitely.
- 32:50It's already happening.
- 32:52I know that.
- 32:52Um.
- 32:53A lot of companies are moving that way to, to make sure that that
- 32:56happens and Chedi is all for it.
- 32:59Uh, Chedi wants to kill Google, basically, uh, search, uh, you know, Google
- 33:05shopping and Google search in general and bring their, the traffic their way.
- 33:08So they're definitely moving that direction.
- 33:11And, uh, that's why our, our job is to enable brands to, to have,
- 33:14to be able to compete with us.
- 33:16'cause otherwise we always, you know, the, the brand that doesn't have
- 33:19that representation, which is lost.
- 33:22And, uh, yeah, it's definitely going that way.
- 33:25The portion of this search traffic, for sure.
- 33:27No doubt.
- 33:28Again, there's, there's other tr other, you know, other traffic
- 33:31sources, email, uh, social that's gonna stay in their, their domain.
- 33:36But the search traffic is slowly moving from Google.
- 33:42And yeah.
- 33:44Which is fascinating, isn't it?
- 33:46It just, I mean, you do wonder what Google, I mean Google's obviously
- 33:49got Google Gemini, which they're trying like crazy to get everybody
- 33:52to use and integrate and everything into Google for the same reason.
- 33:55They wanna hold onto, I think that search traffic.
- 33:59Um, and to be fair, they probably got access to way more data than
- 34:01every man, you know, and they should be able to make it work.
- 34:05But it's, it's gonna be.
- 34:08AI is gonna be the, the sort of the next thing, isn't it?
- 34:10Everyone's always wanting to know what the next thing is, where's the next
- 34:13source of customers gonna come from?
- 34:15It was emailed.
- 34:16Then Google Search came along and then um, Facebook came along, and
- 34:20then it was Instagram, then it was tick, and we sort of go through these.
- 34:23Oh, right, what's the next one?
- 34:24I need to get my head around.
- 34:26And it, it, it very much feels like it's gonna be ai, doesn't it?
- 34:30With these, like you say, everyone's sort of thinking about this, like,
- 34:34how do I get chat GPT to know that I exist so that when someone asks about
- 34:39product X, you know, we, we come up.
- 34:41I think it's, um, there's a big opportunity for companies isn't there?
- 34:45If they, if they can crack that early doors, I would've thought.
- 34:48Yep.
- 34:49Yeah, so I think it's super important to be on top of, uh, the
- 34:52technology and understand where it's going and be ahead of the curve.
- 34:56'cause that can obviously, uh, help with competition and uh, I think
- 35:01companies should always, merchants should always think of how to be
- 35:03ahead and definitely not be behind.
- 35:05So don't be late for the party.
- 35:09That's the title of today's podcast, ladies and gentlemen.
- 35:11Do not be late to the party.
- 35:13So the um, how long do you think it'll be before you have the MCP technology?
- 35:19When are we gonna start to see something like that come to play?
- 35:22So it obviously has, has to go also with adoption of that, of the, the traffic debt
- 35:28buys, uh, through Cha pt, through Claude.
- 35:31Um.
- 35:32We're seeing that somewhere in 2026, it's gonna become something.
- 35:36Uh, so we're developing it ahead, so we'll be there.
- 35:39So once it's, uh, the adoption is there, once shoppers actually want to buy, uh,
- 35:44without viewing the website, then we'll be there and we'll be able to offer that.
- 35:48So we'll already have early customers that are using that specific feature.
- 35:52Yeah.
- 35:53Yeah.
- 35:53Uh, fantastic.
- 35:55Fanta, I'm very excited by that.
- 35:56And I'll be keeping an eye out on the website to understand
- 35:59what is going on there.
- 36:00'cause it, I do think you're onto something.
- 36:02I really do.
- 36:02I think that's, uh, that's quite clever.
- 36:05Um, yeah, no, it, one of the things, I mean, sort of rewinding
- 36:08back a little bit, so we've talked a little bit about the future, if
- 36:11we come back to the present day.
- 36:12Um, one of the things, uh, that I asked you again before we hit record was,
- 36:18what's the one mistake we're all making?
- 36:21Um, and you said that it was, that we're thinking that AI is just
- 36:24really about customer support only.
- 36:26Do you wanna expand on that a little second?
- 36:29Definitely.
- 36:30Um, so again, our offering is to have AI that helps with sales on the website.
- 36:35Uh, AI is a chat bot, AI that, that's on the text medium.
- 36:40And a lot of brands, when they, when we offer that to them or we
- 36:43have a conversation, a lot of, uh, lot of marketers, head of
- 36:47Ecomms will say, Hey, oh, okay.
- 36:50That's chat.
- 36:51Chat is none of my business.
- 36:53Sorry.
- 36:54Chat belongs to the CX department or the customer support department and will
- 36:59actually will not even understand that it is there to also help with sales.
- 37:03And this is the main function.
- 37:04We actually, uh, promote AI that helps with sales.
- 37:07It also helps, helps with support.
- 37:09No problem.
- 37:09If someone wants to know their order status, no problem.
- 37:12Uh, but it's there to mainly make sure that the top line is, is higher,
- 37:17that we increase revenue, increase conversion rate, and average order value.
- 37:21That's the main thing.
- 37:22Uh.
- 37:23That's usually, um, not, uh, I would say ignored or like
- 37:27that possibility is ignored.
- 37:29So I think that's the number one mistake is that they're handing
- 37:31off the conversation to support instead of keeping it themselves
- 37:35and saying, I'm the owner of this.
- 37:37I'm the owner of conversion, I'm the owner of, uh, of sales on the website,
- 37:41and I should use every tool possible, especially new tools that are not coming
- 37:45out, uh, that will help me do my job.
- 37:49Yeah.
- 37:50No, that's great.
- 37:51I, I, and I get that, I understand that, um, there has to be a mental
- 37:56shift, isn't there in the, in the.
- 37:57Ahead of the guy or gal who's, who's running the whole shebang and,
- 38:02and, and getting up and running.
- 38:04One crazy thought that came into my head sort of sideways there.
- 38:07Um, Shauli, as you were talking,
- 38:11is there a site out there?
- 38:14I dunno if you know the answer.
- 38:14And ladies, gentlemen, if you know the answer, I'd be curious to see it.
- 38:16That actually you go to the site and it is purely AI driven.
- 38:20There is no, there is no navigation, right?
- 38:23Where you just, you literally go on the site.
- 38:26It's an e-commerce site.
- 38:28It's all conversational.
- 38:30Has anyone done that?
- 38:32And I'm curious to know what the results are.
- 38:34So there's no nav, there's no products, there's no store, there's
- 38:37no shop by category or, or whatever.
- 38:40It's just literally, welcome to the store, tell me what you want.
- 38:45I'm your concierge and I'm gonna go away and I'm gonna start and, and I'm
- 38:48gonna start to build this for you.
- 38:51So I specific, I personally don't know of any website that has made that shift yet.
- 38:56I truly believe that this is the future.
- 38:58Okay.
- 38:58The future is there.
- 39:00So, um, our solution, by the way, allows brands to have that ability.
- 39:04So if they on mobile, that's how it looks at the moment.
- 39:07The, the shopper speaks to the ai, it goes on full screen and mobile.
- 39:11And the AI does everything for the shoppers.
- 39:13So adding to cart, showing products.
- 39:16Even moving to checkout.
- 39:17So moving between different pages so the AI can actually, uh, completely, uh,
- 39:22replace the navigation of the website.
- 39:24There's no need for that anymore.
- 39:25So the ability is there, uh, and I truly believe that we'll start
- 39:29seeing more and more websites that will say, Hey, you know what?
- 39:32I don't need the actual website anymore because especially on mobile, by the way.
- 39:36Desktop, it's a different thing.
- 39:37You can see a lot of products all at once.
- 39:39It's nice on mobile.
- 39:40It's not on mobile.
- 39:41You can see one product at a time and you have to switch, you have to flip between.
- 39:45Dozens, hundreds of different products, right?
- 39:48And, uh, the ability of having AI is that AI is able to narrow down those results,
- 39:54have a conversation saying, you know what?
- 39:56We've got thousands of products.
- 39:57Let me ask you a few questions, uh, about yourself to try to know you so I
- 40:01can, uh, recommend you something, right?
- 40:03So that, uh, experience is obviously much, much better than viewing
- 40:08thousands of products on mobile.
- 40:10And this is the shift that's going on.
- 40:12Truly believe that next year we're gonna see some, uh, websites that are gonna
- 40:15be a hundred percent conversational.
- 40:18I'm, I'm actually, as you're talking, I'm actually thinking, I, there's a
- 40:21few websites that I have where I'm thinking, how can I make that happen?
- 40:25Just as an experiment.
- 40:26I'd be really curious to see what the, uh, what the results were.
- 40:30So.
- 40:31I'm, I'm gonna have a little ponder on that.
- 40:33One of them is actually on Shopify, so I'm kind of like, I wonder if I could, anyway.
- 40:38I will just now go down a rabbit hole in my head, which is probably not helpful.
- 40:41Uh, but surely, listen, I I, as I say this regularly to guess, but I,
- 40:46I, I genuinely mean it all the time.
- 40:48It just feels like we're just getting started with the conversation.
- 40:51Uh, and I'm, but I am aware of time.
- 40:53So, uh, if people wanna reach you, if they want to connect with you, if
- 40:57they wanna find out more about hello rep.ai, um, how do they do that?
- 41:02What's the best way to reach you?
- 41:04So go on our website.
- 41:05hellorep.Ai.
- 41:07Um, and if you talk to sales and from certain, uh, stage, you're gonna
- 41:12be talking to our sales and we're going to instruct you on how to, uh.
- 41:16To, uh, just optimize your account better.
- 41:18By the way, it's a fully self serve platform plug and play.
- 41:22So, uh, you know, it's super easy to, uh, to, um, interact, to go live.

- 41:45Then you won't have to pay us.
- 41:47Simple as that.
- 41:48So there's no risk on your side, and we offer 20% off, uh, to

- 42:02Um, yeah,
- 42:03Brilliant.
- 42:03There you go.
- 42:04Can't say further than that.
- 42:05Uh, so yeah, so the website again is hellorep.ai.
- 42:10Um, Shauli listen, there's a couple of things I need to do before we sign off.
- 42:12Number one is I want to ask for the question for maps.
- 42:16This is where you give me a question.
- 42:17I. And I go away on the wonderful social media, and I'll answer
- 42:21the question over there.
- 42:23As I've said to people over, over the months we've been doing this,
- 42:26ask me any question you like, what's your question, my friend?
- 42:29Since, uh, you're fan of, uh, American football now, uh, I'm gonna ask you,
- 42:36um, what, um, what, what do you think is the, why is American football better
- 42:41than English soccer or vice versa?
- 42:44And, uh, what tips would you, uh, give to someone who's also new
- 42:48to, uh, American football and, uh.
- 42:51Doesn't know much about it and how to get more, to be more of a fan of,
- 42:54uh, this new sport for me at least.
- 42:57Okay.
- 42:57Very good question.
- 42:58Very, very good question.
- 43:00Uh, I'm, I'm, and again, I'm trying to think how I would answer
- 43:02this, but let's not do that now.
- 43:03I'll do that on social media.
- 43:04So if you've not done so already, come follow me on LinkedIn at Matt Edmundson.
- 43:08Uh, and we will post the content there at some point.
- 43:11Uh, the, the second thing I like to do, Shauli, right at the end of the show.
- 43:16I call it now, saving the best tool.
- 43:17Last, what's your best tip, your best strategy, um, for our listeners regarding
- 43:23this whole topic of AI in shopping, uh, that we've not already covered.
- 43:28I want to give a, give them the most insane value, the best value to those
- 43:31that listened right till the end.
- 43:32What would it be?
- 43:35I would say always listen to, um, to what's out there.
- 43:38Always explore new tools.
- 43:39Be ahead of the curve.
- 43:40Don't be a lagger.
- 43:41It's very important, uh, and just evaluate and truly evaluate tools.
- 43:47In their sophistication, in the value that they bring.
- 43:50So value is very important.
- 43:52Don't just jump into because to something, because it has a nice buzzword, but
- 43:56actually like try to and see the value.
- 43:58And if it brings value, then it's great.
- 44:00If it doesn't, then explore other options.
- 44:02Um, that's my tip for delay.
- 44:05I love that and this, this describes half my life at the moment, is just
- 44:09trying different things with different.
- 44:12Uh, uh, different pieces of software and just figuring out what's
- 44:16working well for us and ditching what's not working well for us, um,
- 44:19which is, is super, super helpful.
- 44:22So, uh, Shauli, thank you so much for joining us.
- 44:25My friend genuinely loved the conversation.
- 44:27Uh, I thought it was fascinating, uh, really intrigued to see where it goes.
- 44:31And all the best with hellorep.Ai and, and let me know when you
- 44:34get the MCP thing working.
- 44:36Will do.
- 44:36Will do.
- 44:37Thank you.
