- 1:33Speaker 4: that you slid into our dms about should you be
- 1:35Speaker 4: footing the bill for a housemate.
- 1:37Speaker 5: That is working from home.
- 1:39Speaker 4: I feel like this is a good one, and we've
- 1:41Speaker 4: kind of touched on it before because you work from
- 1:42Speaker 4: home and your partner.
- 1:43Speaker 6: Does housemates the west from home, but it's also.
- 1:46Speaker 4: A different conversation when your housemate's not partners.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Well, that's it.
- 1:50Speaker 4: I get there before we get there, though, my loves,
- 1:53Speaker 4: How were your weeks?
- 1:55Speaker 3: You go first?
- 1:56Speaker 6: He's been good. I have just kind of in bubbing
- 1:59Speaker 6: along living life, not doing anything super exciting. To be honest,
- 2:02Speaker 6: I wish I had any fun to report, but gorgeous,
- 2:04Speaker 6: I don't.
- 2:06Speaker 3: It's okay, what about you? Really good week? I'm going
- 2:08Speaker 3: to Thailand in like three days. That's I'm sorry about that.
- 2:15Speaker 7: Talk about that just for one week because my girlfriend's
- 2:18Speaker 7: going over there for a dance retreat and she was
- 2:20Speaker 7: like a treat.
- 2:22Speaker 3: She's a dancer, isn't.
- 2:23Speaker 5: That Like I knew that, but like so very cool.
- 2:26Speaker 7: It's so like that of course, you know, like she's
- 2:28Speaker 7: already so hot and then she also is a dancer.
- 2:31Speaker 3: It's like this, you have lucked out. I know, I
- 2:33Speaker 3: don't know how I did it. I really didn't know
- 2:35Speaker 3: how to do this, but anyway, and so I'm not
- 2:36Speaker 3: going to meet her over there after the dance stuff.
- 2:38Speaker 7: I should really be listening more to what she's been
- 2:41Speaker 7: telling me, because I'm just calling it dance stuff.
- 2:42Speaker 3: But I'm sure there's more to it. So I'm kind
- 2:44Speaker 3: of excited for that. But I hate flying, so I'm anxious,
- 2:47Speaker 3: But that's okay.
- 2:48Speaker 5: What is your strategy when flooring?
- 2:50Speaker 2: Man?
- 2:50Speaker 5: If you're anxious?
- 2:51Speaker 7: I don't recommend this, but I either go to my
- 2:53Speaker 7: doctor right and I get some things prescribed, or I
- 2:56Speaker 7: just pinch my eyebrow so brow hard no that I'm like, no,
- 3:01Speaker 7: I can't focus on anything but the pain.
- 3:04Speaker 6: I do it.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I do like all my thighs. Like the pinching is
- 3:07Speaker 3: an annoying feeling.
- 3:08Speaker 5: You know, this is just not how I saw this
- 3:10Speaker 5: conversation going.
- 3:11Speaker 4: I thought you'd have like breathing strategies or something, and
- 3:14Speaker 4: you pinch yourself.
- 3:15Speaker 3: I need to disassociate, you know, But that's me, And
- 3:18Speaker 3: how about you VD.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Like when I fly, I you have a valium and
- 3:22Speaker 4: then have a red wine on the plane and I
- 3:23Speaker 4: find that does the job. Yeah, that does a job.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Can I medically recommend that?
- 3:28Speaker 5: Absolutely?
- 3:28Speaker 8: Not?
- 3:28Speaker 4: Is that probably irresponsible? Absolutely? But my doctor prescribed it,
- 3:32Speaker 4: so it must be legal. And nobody stopped me. Like
- 3:36Speaker 4: before they served me that red wine on the plane,
- 3:38Speaker 4: they went, like, you had a valium.
- 3:41Speaker 5: Maybe I have, Maybe I haven't.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Who's okay, it's so chill.
- 3:47Speaker 5: Yeah, No, my week has been good.
- 3:49Speaker 4: I just cannot seem to shake this post laryngitis voice,
- 3:55Speaker 4: and it is driving me insane because I actually feel fine,
- 3:58Speaker 4: you know when you're like, I'm fine, but my vocal
- 4:00Speaker 4: cards have not recovered, and like obviously I'm on the
- 4:03Speaker 4: pod right now, so I'm not exactly giving them any
- 4:06Speaker 4: type of chance to get better on their own. I've
- 4:09Speaker 4: just been willing it into reality. I've been like, no, tomorrow,
- 4:12Speaker 4: I'm waking up and I'll be fine.
- 4:13Speaker 5: And then I wake up and I actually sounds like
- 4:16Speaker 5: the devil. It sounds than thank you.
- 4:20Speaker 4: It's just really annoying because like then I feel like
- 4:23Speaker 4: my voice gets exhausted really quickly.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Yes, anyway, so live love laugh. I suppose just like Jess,
- 4:29Speaker 5: do you.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Guys report I had that a couple of years ago.
- 4:31Speaker 7: I feel like listeners hopefully remember it is Christmas time
- 4:34Speaker 7: and I was on the show, but I wasn't making
- 4:37Speaker 7: any sound, and so we're like dah, yeah, like listening,
- 4:40Speaker 7: you would be like they're responding.
- 4:42Speaker 3: To nothing because I wasn't making any noise.
- 4:45Speaker 5: It can be so it's the worst. Oh my god.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Before we dive any further in, would you guys like
- 4:52Speaker 4: to hear a little five star review? Read in my
- 4:54Speaker 4: husky voice? Yes, please, I knew you'd want this, especially Beck. Alright,
- 4:58Speaker 4: so we have a beautiful one from Steph b R.
- 5:02Speaker 4: So she says, thank you. I started listening to She's
- 5:05Speaker 4: on the Money in twenty nineteen, upon my sister's recommendation.
- 5:09Speaker 4: I was kid free and in my second year of
- 5:11Speaker 4: full time work. It helped me immensely to focus on
- 5:14Speaker 4: my savings goals and finance several overseas trips. Before and
- 5:17Speaker 4: after COVID hit your Christmas Savings episodes with a push,
- 5:21Speaker 4: I needed to start a Christmas savings account that I
- 5:23Speaker 4: add to fortnightly and saves me so much stress. Once
- 5:27Speaker 4: that wonderful time of year starts now that I'm a
- 5:30Speaker 4: mom of two small kids and money.
- 5:32Speaker 5: Is way more tight. I love the feeling of community.
- 5:35Speaker 4: She's on the Money Provides, and listening to v Jess
- 5:38Speaker 4: and Beck as I wheel the double.
- 5:39Speaker 5: Bram around makes my day. Oh wow is so cute.
- 5:44Speaker 5: That is so cute.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Well, hi, we met you in your single era and
- 5:47Speaker 4: now she's a mummy.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Yeah, wow, we grew with you.
- 5:51Speaker 4: I'm obsessed, Like, I just love our community so much,
- 5:53Speaker 4: like just the idea that like we have got to
- 5:56Speaker 4: hang out with people in just like such different life phases.
- 6:00Speaker 4: We're not just like a Oh I listened to that
- 6:02Speaker 4: podcast while it was relevant, Like I just thought that's
- 6:05Speaker 4: how our podcast would go.
- 6:06Speaker 5: I don't know if that's silly or not.
- 6:08Speaker 4: But then people are saying, I've listened to you for
- 6:10Speaker 4: literal years and my entire life's changed, but still relevant.
- 6:13Speaker 5: I'm like, yes, this is so good. A're still my friends.
- 6:17Speaker 7: That's so nice, and like we people associate us as
- 6:20Speaker 7: different paths like the walking the pram or oh it's
- 6:23Speaker 7: so cute.
- 6:23Speaker 3: I think it's really really sweet.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Someone messaged me on Instagram the other day and said
- 6:27Speaker 4: that they'd just driven to Adelaide and done a She's
- 6:29Speaker 4: on the Money binge listen. They'd organized their episodes so
- 6:33Speaker 4: that like they were like, all right, I'm going to
- 6:35Speaker 4: drive two hours to like this stop location. And she
- 6:39Speaker 4: picked a few episodes because she was like, in the morning,
- 6:41Speaker 4: I'm learning it about investing.
- 6:43Speaker 7: And I'm doing this.
- 6:44Speaker 4: And I was like, God, what You're like, that's crazy
- 6:47Speaker 4: crazy cool, that's really cool.
- 6:50Speaker 5: So just so you guys know, we went on a
- 6:51Speaker 5: road trip to Adelaide. I can't so for us.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Yeah, that's good.
- 6:56Speaker 5: Yeah, And we helped someone learn all about invest That's
- 7:00Speaker 5: so cool.
- 7:01Speaker 3: What a great idea.
- 7:02Speaker 5: It's so cute.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Anyway, Miss Jessica Greed she what money wins and confessions
- 7:05Speaker 4: are you bringing to the table?
- 7:06Speaker 6: Alrighty, first of this week, I've got a money win
- 7:08Speaker 6: it from Lisa, who said she automatically transfers a certain
- 7:11Speaker 6: amount towards her pet fund each week, which is meant
- 7:13Speaker 6: to cover like food and flenworm treatment things like that. However,
- 7:17Speaker 6: she makes sure she has a little bit of a
- 7:19Speaker 6: buffer on the amount that she transfers that overtime, it
- 7:21Speaker 6: slowly builds up. This week, she had to take one
- 7:24Speaker 6: of her goldens to the vet and there was enough
- 7:26Speaker 6: in there to cover the appointment the medicine, and she
- 7:29Speaker 6: bought a little treat for the cats as well from
- 7:31Speaker 6: the same pet fund. She said, it's such a good
- 7:33Speaker 6: feeling knowing that she had the money there pettily because
- 7:35Speaker 6: money's a little bit tighter while she's on matt leave.
- 7:37Speaker 6: And she did provide us a beautiful pet tax photo.
- 7:40Speaker 6: Well done, Lisa. Next, I've got a money confession from Madison,
- 7:43Speaker 6: who said she ticked an item off from her bucket list,
- 7:46Speaker 6: stopping at the Cookers County Cookies Factory in donald.
- 7:50Speaker 3: That's a bloody Halftimes fast.
- 7:52Speaker 6: She said she spent fifty three dollars on cookies and
- 7:55Speaker 6: merch and she's really happy. But she definitely didn't need
- 7:57Speaker 6: to do it. And there are a lot of people
- 7:59Speaker 6: who commented saying that like various things from the Cookers
- 8:02Speaker 6: County Cookies factory were very very good.
- 8:05Speaker 3: So God, where is this?
- 8:06Speaker 6: Where is I have in I'm assuming Cookers County, Okay,
- 8:10Speaker 6: not sure where that is because Country Cookies apologies, Cookers
- 8:14Speaker 6: Country Cookies.
- 8:14Speaker 5: I mean that feels still like a mouthful.
- 8:17Speaker 6: It is still a mouthful.
- 8:18Speaker 5: I will have to look good it.
- 8:20Speaker 6: I wonder if it's in Victoria. If it is, maybe
- 8:21Speaker 6: she's on the money road trip.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, we're not too.
- 8:25Speaker 6: We love a sweet treet. Next, I've got a money
- 8:27Speaker 6: win from Jamie, who said my gym just installed a
- 8:29Speaker 6: coffee machine, so I'm saving six bucks a day by
- 8:31Speaker 6: not purchasing a coffee on the way to work.
- 8:33Speaker 5: Just so good.
- 8:34Speaker 4: My coffee machine has been sleighing recently, putting in the
- 8:37Speaker 4: hard yards. Yeah, one hundred percent. I got a new
- 8:39Speaker 4: brevel for those of you following along at home. As
- 8:41Speaker 4: I know, there was a question about like, well, coffee
- 8:43Speaker 4: machine did you pick?
- 8:44Speaker 5: Because I did a.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Whole Instagram thing a Brevel and then I buy my
- 8:47Speaker 4: beans at the local cafe, which is probably not a
- 8:49Speaker 4: money win, but I feel like we have it at
- 8:52Speaker 4: home now.
- 8:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:53Speaker 6: Same so perfu Well, Jamie said that she's now investing
- 8:57Speaker 6: that six dollars that she would have spent on a
- 8:58Speaker 6: coffee every day into a chares.
- 9:00Speaker 4: I need to say, okay, change to set that up,
- 9:02Speaker 4: because it's just it's mindless things and from little things,
- 9:05Speaker 4: big things grow.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 9:07Speaker 6: Next, I've got a money win from Celia, who said
- 9:09Speaker 6: she found address that she really wanted. The retail price
- 9:12Speaker 6: for it was one hundred and fifty dollars, so she
- 9:14Speaker 6: went on to deep op and found the exact same
- 9:16Speaker 6: dress for ten bucks stop. She put it it off
- 9:18Speaker 6: for eight and they accepted, so with eighteen dollars totally
- 9:21Speaker 6: including shipping.
- 9:22Speaker 5: That's such a funny win, which.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Is very well down.
- 9:25Speaker 6: Lastly, I have a money win from Aunt who said
- 9:27Speaker 6: they had to change the weekends that they were going
- 9:28Speaker 6: to visit a friend. Thankfully they hadn't booked their flights
- 9:31Speaker 6: yet and the weekend they ended up going is one
- 9:33Speaker 6: hundred twenty dollars week cheaper the weekend it was planned.
- 9:36Speaker 6: Love and also just the difference of a week that
- 9:38Speaker 6: your flights can make. If you have flexibility it can
- 9:40Speaker 6: be one.
- 9:41Speaker 5: Hundred dollars opion flight times.
- 9:43Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly right.
- 9:44Speaker 4: Happy to take one for the team sometimes it's worth it,
- 9:46Speaker 4: absolutely And then you can upgrade to business with your points.
- 9:49Speaker 4: And why would you not an out of ten missed?
- 9:52Speaker 4: What have you got for us when it comes to
- 9:54Speaker 4: broke tips this week?
- 9:55Speaker 7: So the first thing comes from Bridget who says Woolwa's
- 9:58Speaker 7: metro stores. If you have like a Woolies rewards card,
- 10:00Speaker 7: and you spend more than thirty dollars in one shop,
- 10:02Speaker 7: you get a voucher for a free coffee.
- 10:05Speaker 3: I did not know that.
- 10:06Speaker 5: That's actually such a good deal.
- 10:07Speaker 6: I don't know that either, man, that's so cool for
- 10:11Speaker 6: dinner that night or something.
- 10:12Speaker 3: And then get yeah, and well maybe.
- 10:15Speaker 7: It goes into your rewards app because I've never seen
- 10:19Speaker 7: I shove it a metro.
- 10:20Speaker 3: But that's really cool. Thank you, Bridget.
- 10:21Speaker 7: I will be using that constantly. And the next one
- 10:24Speaker 7: comes from Beck great game, My little cleaning broke tip.
- 10:29Speaker 7: I swear by five dollars seventy five methlated spirits from
- 10:32Speaker 7: Woolies with one lit lasting ages. I pour it into
- 10:36Speaker 7: those magnetic Kmart spray bottles. They stick to the fridge,
- 10:39Speaker 7: washing machine, garage shelves and use it for just about everything. Sorry,
- 10:43Speaker 7: magnetic spray bottles is low key genius. Yeah, that's machine
- 10:47Speaker 7: and stuff.
- 10:48Speaker 6: I can't rethlated spirits.
- 10:51Speaker 7: Well, just before anyone buys any she has a like
- 10:53Speaker 7: a recipe. It's the wrong words metho, yes, and you win.
- 11:00Speaker 7: Oh sorry, I'm sorry that was so slowly wind withds
- 11:05Speaker 7: rays fifty to fifty metho and water for streak free,
- 11:09Speaker 7: magic bench spray. I won't go through all these, but
- 11:12Speaker 7: if you go into the She's the Money your Facebook
- 11:14Speaker 7: group and just have a lookout for Bex brick tip.
- 11:17Speaker 4: Be very careful with your cleaning We're very careful with
- 11:19Speaker 4: your cleaning products, and don't mix cleaning products without checking.
- 11:22Speaker 6: At least it sounds like the method is being watered down.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Water down.
- 11:26Speaker 5: Yeah, but there's things you can't mix as well.
- 11:28Speaker 4: So if you're thinking, oh, that's great, I'll just add
- 11:30Speaker 4: my favorite cleaning product as well, don't do it because
- 11:33Speaker 4: I know that if you mix bleach and like vinegar,
- 11:35Speaker 4: for example, you create gas and that can actually seriously
- 11:40Speaker 4: harm you.
- 11:40Speaker 5: So don't mix things.
- 11:41Speaker 6: Really.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Yes, that's good to know. No mixing unless it's a
- 11:44Speaker 4: proper recipe. Alright, guys, Yeah, it's very good to know.
- 11:47Speaker 4: And then my broke tip. I came across this and
- 11:51Speaker 4: I think it's only for Victoria. I'm really sorry to say,
- 11:54Speaker 4: but right now me, it's only for Victoria.
- 11:57Speaker 7: Device. You can get a free water efficient share head
- 12:00Speaker 7: through the Victorian Energy Upgrades Program. This initiative, funded by
- 12:05Speaker 7: a Victorian government, aims to reduce water and energy consumption,
- 12:08Speaker 7: so you can just you already know it's going to
- 12:10Speaker 7: be one of those like weak as hell shower heads,
- 12:13Speaker 7: but it is, you know, it's still it's still good.
- 12:15Speaker 7: It's like a free shower head replacement. And I did
- 12:17Speaker 7: replace mine the other day, and I thought it would
- 12:19Speaker 7: be like five dollars. It's like one of those you know,
- 12:21Speaker 7: just this standards stock standard. It's like twenty three dollars.
- 12:23Speaker 7: So I'm like, that's actually such a good broke to
- 12:26Speaker 7: bougie tip. So like, if you live in a rental
- 12:29Speaker 7: more often than not, you can actually screw off a
- 12:32Speaker 7: shower head and store it in your bathroom cupboard and
- 12:35Speaker 7: put in one that you like. I remember, I lived
- 12:38Speaker 7: in a sharehouse for a very long time without that
- 12:41Speaker 7: knowledge and had the worst shower head, but it had
- 12:43Speaker 7: the best shower pressure. Yeah, So like I just remember it,
- 12:47Speaker 7: and I never changed the shower head. I just remember
- 12:50Speaker 7: the opportunity that presented.
- 12:51Speaker 4: I could have had a good shower head in that
- 12:54Speaker 4: shower and had an elite, elevated experience. You did it,
- 12:57Speaker 4: but it attacked me every time I went in there.
- 13:00Speaker 4: You know, like the ones that you get at the
- 13:01Speaker 4: swimming pool, you get stream it's kind of like there's
- 13:06Speaker 4: lots of holes, but they all go in one direction
- 13:08Speaker 4: and just like kind of beat the hell out of
- 13:10Speaker 4: you the second you get in the shower.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I kind of like it.
- 13:14Speaker 6: Want a high pressure.
- 13:16Speaker 5: I like pressure everywhere, but like I need a bigger
- 13:19Speaker 5: shower head.
- 13:19Speaker 4: Anyway, you can purchase a shower head and you can
- 13:22Speaker 4: just screw it in on your own, very easy, and
- 13:25Speaker 4: like I would say, a bougie upgrade to yeah, your
- 13:29Speaker 4: next rental, Oh yeah, and don't forget it when you
- 13:31Speaker 4: move out, because that would be a money loss.
- 13:33Speaker 5: Is that it from you?
- 13:34Speaker 4: Beck? That is it for me?
- 13:35Speaker 7: But I was just going to say it is very
- 13:36Speaker 7: very quick and easy. I mean, if you have any troubles.
- 13:39Speaker 7: But when I moved into the sharehouse that I'm in now,
- 13:41Speaker 7: we had water just coming out of the wall.
- 13:45Speaker 3: That's so I was like, oh, well, we have no choice,
- 13:48Speaker 3: but I wish this was.
- 13:49Speaker 5: That's actually insane. Is that not the bare minimum?
- 13:52Speaker 3: I probably?
- 13:55Speaker 5: Oh God, but that's not willing to put up.
- 13:58Speaker 7: We're not going to be a botherea You just kind
- 14:01Speaker 7: of like put our hands against the wall and then
- 14:03Speaker 7: smash side.
- 14:05Speaker 5: All right, let's talk about this.
- 14:07Speaker 4: We're going to go to a break on the flip side,
- 14:08Speaker 4: We're going to be helping to answer money dilemma about
- 14:11Speaker 4: what you should be doing with your tax return and
- 14:13Speaker 4: something that you slid into our dms about should you
- 14:15Speaker 4: be footing the bill for a housemate that works from home? Guys,
- 14:19Speaker 4: don't go anywhere.
- 14:24Speaker 6: Welcome back, everybody. Let's take a listen to this week's
- 14:26Speaker 6: money dilemma.

- 14:46Speaker 8: yourself on the show.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Now, let's take a listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Hije's on the Money, just wanting to get your opinion
- 14:56Speaker 2: on something. So I received quite a sizable tax return
- 15:00Speaker 2: and I'm just wondering what to do with a certain
- 15:03Speaker 2: portion of it. So I've already put a fair chunk
- 15:06Speaker 2: of it into my savings, and I've also topped up
- 15:09Speaker 2: my emergency fund topped up some of my savers. I
- 15:12Speaker 2: put some into my investments, and I of course kept
- 15:15Speaker 2: a little bit decided for a treat yourself moment. And
- 15:18Speaker 2: after having done all that, I have about five hundred
- 15:21Speaker 2: dollars left over. I'm just not quite sure what to
- 15:24Speaker 2: do with it. I have considered putting it into my superannuation,
- 15:28Speaker 2: and I was exploring the co contribution scheme, but I
- 15:33Speaker 2: just don't fully understand that scheme, so I'm not too
- 15:35Speaker 2: sure about that. But otherwise, I've got this five hundred
- 15:39Speaker 2: dollars and I'm not quite sure what to do with it.
- 15:41Speaker 2: And I'd love to hear what you guys would do
- 15:44Speaker 2: with five hundred dollars from a tax return. Thanks guys,
- 15:47Speaker 2: let's start with Beck.
- 15:49Speaker 8: Beck.
- 15:49Speaker 4: What are you doing five hundred bucks on your tax return?
- 15:51Speaker 3: Hmmm, such a good question.
- 15:54Speaker 7: And this is really not relevant to write now, but
- 15:57Speaker 7: I currently have one thousand dollars in my Shares's account.
- 15:59Speaker 5: Sorry, I would be putting it in.
- 16:01Speaker 3: You know, I don't even know how this happened. I
- 16:03Speaker 3: can't actually remember it. Just I put around the little things.
- 16:06Speaker 5: Yes, seriously, they grow.
- 16:08Speaker 3: I've never had that.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Just you know, you were crazy creating financial freedom for yourself.
- 16:14Speaker 4: Now tell me does feel good?
- 16:15Speaker 5: What does that feel like?
- 16:16Speaker 3: It feels very good.
- 16:17Speaker 7: And so with that five hundred probably, I mean I
- 16:20Speaker 7: would definitely be really irresponsible, but I'm just trying to investment.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Think.
- 16:24Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm trying to think about Like, if I'm being
- 16:26Speaker 7: really responsible, i'd probably put it in chazyas.
- 16:28Speaker 4: But if you're not being responsible, I'm like, you're just
- 16:30Speaker 4: being back and no one's looking.
- 16:32Speaker 7: Oh my god, that would be gone in one nanosecond.
- 16:35Speaker 7: I have a long list of things that I want
- 16:37Speaker 7: to buy for my girlfriend, and you.
- 16:39Speaker 5: Are so lovely.
- 16:41Speaker 7: So as I said, as I said that, I was like,
- 16:45Speaker 7: sounds so lame, but I also would buy I'd buy
- 16:47Speaker 7: like three vapes just so I don't have to keep
- 16:49Speaker 7: going back and forth every week, okay, And then I
- 16:51Speaker 7: would maybe buy like like an item of clothing, just one,
- 16:56Speaker 7: you know, I'm just like the same kind of clothes
- 16:58Speaker 7: every day kind of girl.
- 16:59Speaker 3: And then then yeah, it would just go. It would
- 17:02Speaker 3: be going to uber E.
- 17:03Speaker 4: It's I'd just be living large for a little while.
- 17:05Speaker 4: I love this, Miss Jessicricci. I think I know, but
- 17:08Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 17:10Speaker 6: Well, I just got my taxi turn back. Actuallyusly I'm
- 17:12Speaker 6: very lucky. I got a similar to our listener a
- 17:14Speaker 6: good return, and I did a similar thing investments, house deposit.
- 17:18Speaker 6: Not to be like that really boring person, but that's
- 17:20Speaker 6: where all my spare money goes. But I am a
- 17:21Speaker 6: big fan of a tax treet. You guys know, I
- 17:23Speaker 6: buy a tax treat every year. I think it's if
- 17:25Speaker 6: you have it and you've paid all the things that
- 17:27Speaker 6: you should pay, it's kind of nice to let yourself
- 17:30Speaker 6: get one little treats like something else would. This year,
- 17:33Speaker 6: I haven't actually bought mine next only just come through,
- 17:35Speaker 6: but I like you back. I have like a wish
- 17:37Speaker 6: list of things. I was just looking at it, trying
- 17:39Speaker 6: to think at yeah, because I keep a list on
- 17:42Speaker 6: my phone of like things like you know, what's really
- 17:44Speaker 6: high on my list? But it's too big for a
- 17:46Speaker 6: tax treat. I really need a Plartes Reformer, so maybe
- 17:48Speaker 6: I'll put it into my Pilarates reformer funf Yeah.
- 17:52Speaker 5: Yeah, Reformer ones keep appearing on my Instagram. Oh they're
- 17:56Speaker 5: so beautiful.
- 17:57Speaker 4: Ye they're not just like functional, they're pretty Anyway, Am.
- 18:01Speaker 5: I allowed to be a down or on this?
- 18:03Speaker 7: No?
- 18:03Speaker 4: I mean yes, your tax return is returning income to
- 18:08Speaker 4: you that you paid over and above what you needed to.
- 18:12Speaker 4: So it's not free money. It's actually your money that
- 18:15Speaker 4: you worked really hard to earn. And yes, it is
- 18:18Speaker 4: very attractive because oh lump some I can do whatever
- 18:21Speaker 4: I want. But like girl, that's still part of your
- 18:23Speaker 4: taxable income. If you made eighty thousand dollars, that's part
- 18:26Speaker 4: of the eighty thousand dollars. It's not like above and
- 18:28Speaker 4: beyond like it's literally your money that you worked your
- 18:33Speaker 4: butt off for. And don't get me wrong, we all
- 18:35Speaker 4: deserve a little treat, So don't get me wrong. I
- 18:37Speaker 4: don't think it's a bad thing, just that you're doing
- 18:39Speaker 4: your we're not anti taxing treat, but you're also a
- 18:41Speaker 4: very financially responsible human being.
- 18:44Speaker 5: So I kind of I'll let that one slide a lot.
- 18:46Speaker 5: I appreciate it.
- 18:47Speaker 4: But on the flip side, I think a lot of
- 18:48Speaker 4: us get it and we just immediately go free money.
- 18:51Speaker 5: It feels good. What are you doing?
- 18:52Speaker 4: Like the amount of women I have spoken to, And again,
- 18:55Speaker 4: no shade, no judgment. I actually don't care what you
- 18:58Speaker 4: do with your money. I could not give two flying
- 19:02Speaker 4: monkeys what you do with your money as long as
- 19:04Speaker 4: I have given you every single tool and every single
- 19:07Speaker 4: resource that I believe you deserve to make the decisions
- 19:10Speaker 4: that are right for you. Then go and make those decisions.
- 19:13Speaker 5: Go make them.
- 19:13Speaker 4: I don't care Beck you want to buy three vapes
- 19:16Speaker 4: hop off, Queen, I love that for you. But what
- 19:19Speaker 4: I want to remind people of is that is your
- 19:21Speaker 4: money and you worked really hard for it. And it's
- 19:23Speaker 4: not often, especially if we're not good at saving or
- 19:26Speaker 4: we're not good at investing, we are presented with a
- 19:28Speaker 4: lump sum opportunity to get ourselves ahead. So for me personally,
- 19:34Speaker 4: I would just whack it into my investment. Like, but
- 19:36Speaker 4: I already have a setup, tried, true strategy, Like I'm
- 19:41Speaker 4: when it comes to money, if you dug under the covers,
- 19:45Speaker 4: kind of boring, Like I'm not a massive spender on
- 19:49Speaker 4: clothes and stuff. I don't know if people even pay
- 19:51Speaker 4: attention to that anymore. Like I feel like I wear
- 19:54Speaker 4: the same jumper, are the same jeans on rotation every
- 19:57Speaker 4: single week. It actually really annoys our video wayit to
- 20:00Speaker 4: Brook because she's like, Victoria, you wear the same thing
- 20:03Speaker 4: over and over again, so it looks like we recorded
- 20:06Speaker 4: everything within the same day.
- 20:08Speaker 5: That's un lucky for you. That's so lucky for you.
- 20:10Speaker 4: That looks a lot like not a me problem. My
- 20:12Speaker 4: hair might be different because I didn't wush it one day.
- 20:14Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, Anyway, for me, it's about putting future you
- 20:18Speaker 4: in the best possible position. And if you are ridiculously
- 20:21Speaker 4: excited about getting your tax return, I get it. But
- 20:24Speaker 4: that's probably because you don't have access to a lot
- 20:26Speaker 4: of funds right now. Like when it's five hundred dollars
- 20:29Speaker 4: but you've already got one hundred thousand dollars invested, you're
- 20:32Speaker 4: kind of like, Okay, cool, I'm going to do the
- 20:34Speaker 4: right thing. But when you get five hundred dollars and
- 20:37Speaker 4: you don't have five hundred dollars in your account, you
- 20:40Speaker 4: just see endless possibility. I do want you to seriously consider.
- 20:45Speaker 4: Have I got an emergency fund set up? Could I
- 20:47Speaker 4: top that up? What could that look like? Have I
- 20:50Speaker 4: got some bills due that I could take some pressure off,
- 20:52Speaker 4: like future me for because as much as like an
- 20:55Speaker 4: air wrap or a pilarate's reform or or anything good, like,
- 20:59Speaker 4: I get it, I want that stuff too. Is fun.
- 21:02Speaker 4: I can almost promise you that, oh, five hundred dollars
- 21:05Speaker 4: maybe I'll put two hundred and fifty dollars on credit
- 21:08Speaker 4: to my energy company so that I don't get bit
- 21:10Speaker 4: in the butt next time that comes around. And future
- 21:13Speaker 4: is going to be like, oh, that was so good
- 21:15Speaker 4: when your bill does come and it's fifteen dollars. So
- 21:18Speaker 4: for me, I think it's about driving home what is
- 21:20Speaker 4: important to you. I know you set everything up, but
- 21:22Speaker 4: could you, you know, turbo charge your investment a little bit,
- 21:25Speaker 4: or turbo charge your savings account. I hate the fact
- 21:28Speaker 4: that we're in the middle of a cost of living crisis.
- 21:31Speaker 4: We're going to need that money at some point. Yeah,
- 21:33Speaker 4: it's not free money.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:35Speaker 6: And on the government co contribution thing, am I right
- 21:37Speaker 6: in remembering that that is mainly targeted at low income earners,
- 21:41Speaker 6: So check that you qualify before you put the money in.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:44Speaker 4: I would go to the ATO website and just check
- 21:46Speaker 4: what's going on. I mean, you want a turbo charge
- 21:48Speaker 4: your suberannuation. I'm all about that because if you contributed
- 21:51Speaker 4: it today as well next tax return, you can claim
- 21:53Speaker 4: that contribution on tax again, which that you're just like
- 21:56Speaker 4: taxi taxi taxi can work for you. But I also
- 22:00Speaker 4: so I think, how can you get ahead. How can
- 22:02Speaker 4: you put future you in the best possible position.
- 22:04Speaker 5: I get it.
- 22:05Speaker 4: Get a little treat. Yeah, like I'm a sweet trearee.
- 22:08Speaker 4: You are never going to catch me going, oh my god,
- 22:12Speaker 4: I can do the fire. I could do financial independence,
- 22:14Speaker 4: retire early and save all my money. That's not for me,
- 22:16Speaker 4: but I am about Let's create a secure financial house
- 22:20Speaker 4: that you can live in comfortably.
- 22:22Speaker 5: Yeah, let's do that. Yeah, put future you in the
- 22:25Speaker 5: driver's seat.
- 22:26Speaker 8: Cool.
- 22:26Speaker 5: I love you.
- 22:27Speaker 3: She'll think you're so cool and that's why you're where
- 22:31Speaker 3: you are today.
- 22:32Speaker 4: Exactly right, crying and I don't have a reformer. H yeah,
- 22:38Speaker 4: yeahsolutely absolutely all right. So our DM this week. Hi,
- 22:43Speaker 4: she's on the money. My fine works from home and
- 22:45Speaker 4: I'm on the road all the time. We split bills
- 22:48Speaker 4: like power and internet fifty to fifty. But he can
- 22:51Speaker 4: claim part of that back on his tax return.
- 22:53Speaker 5: Well I can't.
- 22:54Speaker 4: I'm not sure if it really makes a big difference,
- 22:57Speaker 4: but it's been on my mind because our last power
- 23:00Speaker 4: was huge. He's getting a really big tax return surprise coincidence,
- 23:05Speaker 4: and I've got an unexpected bill from a payroll error.
- 23:08Speaker 4: I agreed to fifty to fifty when I moved in,
- 23:11Speaker 4: so I've never had an issue with it, but now
- 23:13Speaker 4: I'm wondering if I'm kind of subsidizing his work.
- 23:16Speaker 5: From home costs.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Do other people take this into account when splitting bills
- 23:20Speaker 4: with a partner or housemates or am I just overthinking this.
- 23:24Speaker 7: I'd be curious to know how often you're this person's
- 23:28Speaker 7: on the road, because it sounds like they're like a
- 23:30Speaker 7: lot of their job is kind of like they're often
- 23:33Speaker 7: not even home at all.
- 23:34Speaker 3: I would be a bit irritated that, Like, like.
- 23:36Speaker 7: If it was the other way around, if I was
- 23:38Speaker 7: working from home all the time and my partner was
- 23:40Speaker 7: not really and then we had a huge energy bill,
- 23:43Speaker 7: they wouldn't even have to use expend any mental energy
- 23:46Speaker 7: at all. I would be like, Wow, I'm home most
- 23:49Speaker 7: of the time. I'm going to figure this out so
- 23:53Speaker 7: you don't have to be paying fifty to fifty. Also
- 23:56Speaker 7: that the fact that you can get a little bit
- 23:57Speaker 7: back on tax so you can claim in on tax
- 23:59Speaker 7: would absolutely come to my mind, and I, like the
- 24:02Speaker 7: other person wouldn't need to think twice about it. I
- 24:04Speaker 7: would already be like, cool, this is the split because
- 24:08Speaker 7: I'm always home, You're never home.
- 24:10Speaker 3: You know, like it's so annoying that that's.
- 24:12Speaker 4: Not just like a default thing but just goes to
- 24:16Speaker 4: logic and putting the other person in the best possible suction, because.
- 24:19Speaker 7: Then you're you feel awkward and you've got to like
- 24:21Speaker 7: maybe you will have a fight, maybe you won't, maybe
- 24:23Speaker 7: they'll get angry maybe, and so it's just like anxiety inducing,
- 24:26Speaker 7: you know what I mean. So that sucks, and I'm
- 24:28Speaker 7: really sorry. But with that, it's probably pretty clear where
- 24:31Speaker 7: I sit on this. I think absolutely really like it
- 24:34Speaker 7: should be about and I think this is the right
- 24:36Speaker 7: word equity.
- 24:37Speaker 4: No.
- 24:37Speaker 7: Yes, And if you're home far less, like if you're
- 24:42Speaker 7: home every evening, then maybe like from five pm onward,
- 24:47Speaker 7: maybe it kind of all comes out in the wash.
- 24:49Speaker 7: But still you still shouldn't be paying as much. But
- 24:51Speaker 7: if you're like on the road a lot and you're
- 24:54Speaker 7: barely home except for on the weekends or something like that,
- 24:56Speaker 7: then it's a no brainer. It's a no brainer that
- 25:00Speaker 7: your partner should be paying like seventy percent depending on
- 25:04Speaker 7: figure out how how often your home. If it's thirty
- 25:07Speaker 7: percent of the time, then you pay in thirty percent
- 25:09Speaker 7: of the energy, you know what I mean.
- 25:11Speaker 3: So yeah, I don't know. I feel like it's a
- 25:13Speaker 3: no brainer for me. You should definitely be paying less.
- 25:15Speaker 6: Yeah, to play Devil's Advocate. Interestingly, energy off peak rates
- 25:19Speaker 6: are during the day, so it's actually cheaper to use
- 25:21Speaker 6: energy during the day than it is in the evenings.
- 25:24Speaker 6: Generally speaking, I would say, yeah, kind of like similar
- 25:27Speaker 6: to working out if you have a provider, or maybe
- 25:29Speaker 6: look at change into a provider. Some providers allow you
- 25:32Speaker 6: to track your hourly energy U see, which I think
- 25:34Speaker 6: that's a really good way to look at it, because
- 25:35Speaker 6: if I think about me working from home, the only
- 25:38Speaker 6: significant electrical cost is heating cooling, like when I'm not
- 25:43Speaker 6: using lights because it's daytime, so I don't actually need
- 25:46Speaker 6: to turn the lights on.
- 25:47Speaker 5: I will tell you, also pretty good with the heater
- 25:50Speaker 5: in the cooler anyway.
- 25:51Speaker 6: Well, I was gonna say, the way that we've kind
- 25:52Speaker 6: of worked it out is we'll turn the heater on
- 25:55Speaker 6: in the morning when we're both home. As soon as
- 25:57Speaker 6: it hits like eighteen degrees, like a comfortable temperature. We
- 25:59Speaker 6: then it to like our holding temperature, which is like
- 26:02Speaker 6: thirteen four.
- 26:03Speaker 5: Would have left it on that anyway, correct, So.
- 26:05Speaker 6: Like we've kind of worked out and that was something
- 26:07Speaker 6: we had to kind of trial and error, Like we
- 26:09Speaker 6: went through a phase where our heating bill was astronomically high,
- 26:11Speaker 6: and absolutely I recognized, Okay, well, i'm home a lot
- 26:15Speaker 6: like does need to be on let's change that. But
- 26:17Speaker 6: I think looking at the breakdown actually would probably be
- 26:19Speaker 6: quite interesting because if I reflect on, like me being
- 26:22Speaker 6: at home, the electricity usage would actually be relatively minimal
- 26:26Speaker 6: outside of here and calling, which we've obviously now found
- 26:29Speaker 6: a middle ground on. Obviously, like me and my partner
- 26:31Speaker 6: are spoke about it. He's really happy for it to
- 26:32Speaker 6: be fifty to fifty, he says, up late when I
- 26:34Speaker 6: go to bed. So for us, it kind of does
- 26:36Speaker 6: come out in the wash, but it would be if
- 26:38Speaker 6: that's something that's on your mind, so you're stressing about,
- 26:40Speaker 6: I think, exactly as you said, finding a way to
- 26:43Speaker 6: quantify the difference in usage the difference in cost is
- 26:46Speaker 6: important because it may also be that you might discover,
- 26:49Speaker 6: oh well, actually in the evenings when we're both home
- 26:52Speaker 6: and peak usage is really high and we're running the
- 26:54Speaker 6: TV and the dryer and cooking dinner and doing all
- 26:57Speaker 6: of those things. That accounts for a lot of our
- 27:00Speaker 6: electricity usage. And you don't realize it so, and it
- 27:02Speaker 6: could be the other way. It could be that the
- 27:03Speaker 6: daytime usage is absolutely eating up, in which case completely
- 27:07Speaker 6: agree equity is the way to go if that's what
- 27:09Speaker 6: you want, and that's very fair and valid. But I
- 27:11Speaker 6: think having an understanding of how it actually all breaks down,
- 27:14Speaker 6: because it isn't quite as black and white as whoeverres
- 27:18Speaker 6: grown is what the usage equals, it's just worth considering.
- 27:21Speaker 6: I would say, it's a.
- 27:21Speaker 5: Really good pose, that's really fair.
- 27:23Speaker 4: I feel like I'm kind of on both sides, Like
- 27:26Speaker 4: if you're working from home more consistently, I would also
- 27:30Speaker 4: assume that your grocery bill is being impacted by this,
- 27:33Speaker 4: because maybe they're eating lunch at home or regularly. I'd
- 27:36Speaker 4: be like, Okay, how do we split this and what
- 27:39Speaker 4: is fair? I mean, for me personally, it's never been
- 27:41Speaker 4: something that I've had to discuss. I've never lived with
- 27:43Speaker 4: someone who worked from home, and if they did, it
- 27:46Speaker 4: was like an odd rarity because I had housemates all
- 27:49Speaker 4: prior to COVID and we weren't allowed to work from home.
- 27:52Speaker 4: And now my husband works from home a bit. I
- 27:54Speaker 4: work from home a bit, and it's just not something
- 27:56Speaker 4: I've really thought of. But I do think the equity
- 27:58Speaker 4: thing is the fairest because it's like, well, I don't know,
- 28:02Speaker 4: maybe your partner isn't as considerate as a jest in
- 28:04Speaker 4: this situation and does have the heater on twenty four
- 28:07Speaker 4: all day while you're out, all the lights are on,
- 28:10Speaker 4: like they leave the fridge open. Who knows at which
- 28:12Speaker 4: point I would probably be saying, Hey, how do I
- 28:15Speaker 4: have this conversation? I don't think any conversation is unwarranted,
- 28:19Speaker 4: but like I would be open to what their thoughts
- 28:22Speaker 4: are on that first, not going to them with a solution.
- 28:25Speaker 4: I'd be like, hey, do we need a solution for
- 28:27Speaker 4: this because this kind of seems crazy? Or blame the
- 28:30Speaker 4: Shees on the Money community and say, oh, someone in
- 28:32Speaker 4: the Shees on the Money community you was saying they
- 28:34Speaker 4: slip their bills like this. Differently, should we be relooking
- 28:36Speaker 4: at ours because you work from home and seeing what happens,
- 28:39Speaker 4: because I think that that can be a little less
- 28:41Speaker 4: confrontational because you're right back, Like if you get the
- 28:43Speaker 4: bill and then you have to have the conversation, that
- 28:46Speaker 4: can be quite confrontational, and they'll be like, oh, I
- 28:48Speaker 4: don't what the hell you said you.
- 28:50Speaker 5: Pay fifty cent?
- 28:50Speaker 4: While you're going back on that as opposed to an open,
- 28:53Speaker 4: honest conversation about.
- 28:54Speaker 5: Like, okay, times have changed. Yeah I saw this thing.
- 28:57Speaker 5: Could this benefit us?
- 28:59Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 28:59Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely, that's probably where I'm sitting.
- 29:01Speaker 6: What did everybody else say?
- 29:03Speaker 4: So obviously we all had thoughts and feelings, but we
- 29:05Speaker 4: first asked a few questions. First question was, what is
- 29:08Speaker 4: the work from home situation in your house? Forty eight
- 29:11Speaker 4: percent of you said one or some of us work
- 29:13Speaker 4: from home, forty percent said none of us work from home,
- 29:17Speaker 4: and twelve percent said all of us work from home.
- 29:20Speaker 4: We then said what would you do in this situation?
- 29:23Speaker 4: Thirty six percent said, add the tax refund to the bills, kitty, Oh,
- 29:28Speaker 4: that's a good idea. Yeah, thirty two percent said it
- 29:30Speaker 4: just based on usage, and the other thirty two percent
- 29:32Speaker 4: said keep it fifty fifty. Now, we also went to
- 29:36Speaker 4: the community and said, guys, what is your two cents?
- 29:38Speaker 4: First person said he should only be claiming tax back
- 29:41Speaker 4: on the portion of bills he paid, not the full
- 29:43Speaker 4: bill anyway, which is true. Yeah, it's a good point.
- 29:46Speaker 4: Next person said, tell them to buy you something pretty.
- 29:49Speaker 6: I'm not mad about that as a solution, I'm going
- 29:51Speaker 6: to be really honest.
- 29:53Speaker 4: I put it in there because I was like, that's funny.
- 29:56Speaker 4: Next person said, these situations can turn into tit for tat.
- 29:59Speaker 4: For example, I'm not home on the weekends, though I
- 30:01Speaker 4: go to footy all day. Yeah, and I don't use
- 30:04Speaker 4: any power.
- 30:04Speaker 5: What about that?
- 30:05Speaker 4: So I think we need to just zoom out and
- 30:07Speaker 4: have a holistic view of these things before we start
- 30:09Speaker 4: a conversation. Next person said, Internet built same either way.
- 30:13Speaker 4: Electrocity would be hardly a little different overthinking, but it's
- 30:17Speaker 4: good to be aware. Next person said, I work from
- 30:20Speaker 4: home two or three out of three days. I try
- 30:23Speaker 4: not to add edy additional power minus my laptop because
- 30:26Speaker 4: that shit is no true.
- 30:28Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 30:28Speaker 4: Next person said if this was a housemate, I'd probably
- 30:31Speaker 4: have an issue, but with a partner, I think it
- 30:32Speaker 4: balances out.
- 30:34Speaker 5: And then another person said, equity is not equal.
- 30:38Speaker 4: Fifty to fifty only works if you are using and
- 30:40Speaker 4: earning exactly the same, Otherwise you need to split proportionally.
- 30:43Speaker 4: You've been in the comment section back it sounds a
- 30:45Speaker 4: little bit like me. And then the last one that
- 30:48Speaker 4: I'm going to leave you with is a really good
- 30:50Speaker 4: contribution and they said Finder dot com dot A, you
- 30:52Speaker 4: actually has a really good breakdown of what worked from
- 30:55Speaker 4: home costs look like.
- 30:56Speaker 5: Have a look and go from there.
- 30:58Speaker 4: Oh lover, we've got a little resource, we've got a
- 31:01Speaker 4: little opinion. You got everything I think from that response. Yeah, guys,
- 31:05Speaker 4: I think that's a very good way to wrap it.
- 31:07Speaker 4: Thank you for doing another Friday episode with me, and
- 31:09Speaker 4: we'll see you write nearly your Monday for money Darry.
