- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, faithful, welcome to the Faithful Fitness Podcast. In a moment,
- 0:05Speaker 1: my dad, coach Alex van Houghton, will help you honor
- 0:08Speaker 1: God by making the most out of the body God's
- 0:10Speaker 1: given you. Today you can expect truth from the Bible,
- 0:13Speaker 1: tools from science, being guidance for everyday life. So listen closing,
- 0:18Speaker 1: get ready, let's get one percent better today.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Hey faithful, Coach Alex here, grace in peace to you.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Last week we stepped outside the walls. We talked about
- 0:33Speaker 2: why this message faith, fitness and stewardship has to reach
- 0:37Speaker 2: beyond the church, into culture, into systems, and into conversations
- 0:42Speaker 2: that most people don't expect. But this week we come
- 0:46Speaker 2: right back home because it's one thing to talk about
- 0:48Speaker 2: the mission out there, and it's another thing to actually
- 0:52Speaker 2: live it in your body and in your own house.
- 0:56Speaker 2: This conversation is with my wife, Kristen van Houghten, and
- 1:00Speaker 2: what you're about to get to hear is simple, but
- 1:03Speaker 2: it's not easy. We talked about fasting, We talked about discipline,
- 1:07Speaker 2: We talked about what it actually takes to train your
- 1:10Speaker 2: body so it doesn't get in the way of your obedience.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Because here's the truth. If your body is undisciplined, it'll
- 1:18Speaker 2: interrupt your prayers, it'll weaken your focus, and it will
- 1:22Speaker 2: quietly pull you away from the very things that you
- 1:25Speaker 2: say matter most to you. That's not condemnation, that's reality.
- 1:31Speaker 2: In Scripture, you see this over and over again. When
- 1:34Speaker 2: the people of God needed clarity, when they needed breakthrough,
- 1:38Speaker 2: when they needed to hear from the Lord, they didn't
- 1:41Speaker 2: just think differently. They fasted, they humbled themselves. They brought
- 1:48Speaker 2: their bodies into alignment with their prayers, not to earn anything,
- 1:52Speaker 2: but to remove interference. And that's what this episode is
- 1:57Speaker 2: all about, not perfection, not performing, but training your body
- 2:02Speaker 2: so it becomes a servant, not a distraction. So as
- 2:06Speaker 2: you listen, I want you to wrestle with this question,
- 2:09Speaker 2: where is my lack of discipline quietly interfering with my
- 2:15Speaker 2: obedience to God? Sit with that, and if this message
- 2:19Speaker 2: is stirring something in you, if you realize that you
- 2:23Speaker 2: don't just need more information, but you need structure, community
- 2:28Speaker 2: and training. That's exactly why Faithful Fitness exists. Right now,
- 2:33Speaker 2: in honor of our devotional launch, you can save fifty
- 2:36Speaker 2: dollars on an annual premium membership and step into a
- 2:40Speaker 2: rhythm of real embodied discipleship, and the shred challenge that
- 2:44Speaker 2: my wife and I talk about is starting again in
- 2:47Speaker 2: three weeks and we'd love to have you. You don't
- 2:50Speaker 2: have to figure this out alone. Check out the link
- 2:52Speaker 2: in the show notes. All right, without further ado, it's
- 2:56Speaker 2: time to dive in. What's up faithful coach Alex van
- 2:59Speaker 2: Hotten here, I'm super excited to be doing another episode
- 3:02Speaker 2: of Faithful Fitness with my lovely wife. She didn't run screaming. Yay,
- 3:07Speaker 2: it was like a month ago, right, No more, maybe
- 3:10Speaker 2: more than a month ago. Okay, Well, we have a
- 3:12Speaker 2: lot to talk about today. We're going to be talking
- 3:14Speaker 2: about my new book is published. Are you so excited?
- 3:17Speaker 2: Oh yeah, You're not as excited as I am, But
- 3:20Speaker 2: I'm so excited. She's very excited too, She's just more
- 3:22Speaker 2: reserved than I am. But we're going to talk more
- 3:24Speaker 2: about that in a bit. We have some stuff to
- 3:26Speaker 2: talk about with regard to the shred. So you still exist,
- 3:30Speaker 2: I do.
- 3:30Speaker 3: I'm shredded, shredded.
- 3:35Speaker 2: You shredded. I'm very proud of you. You kicked button
- 3:38Speaker 2: tich names. That was good. All right, So I want
- 3:41Speaker 2: to talk about your shred though, because people hear from
- 3:43Speaker 2: me a lot about fasting and exercise and nutrition from
- 3:48Speaker 2: a man's perspective, but you went through the shred and
- 3:51Speaker 2: you've done it before, yeah, and from a lady's perspective,
- 3:54Speaker 2: things are a little different. And so I want to
- 3:57Speaker 2: talk to you about your experience shred, but also what
- 4:01Speaker 2: kind of results your body gave you? What was hard
- 4:03Speaker 2: about it? What was easy about it? So I'm just
- 4:05Speaker 2: going to start with a very simple question. Fasting, what
- 4:09Speaker 2: the heck like? It's not easy. It's not easy, and
- 4:13Speaker 2: it's particularly challenging for a female's body. And I know
- 4:16Speaker 2: for you you've seen me fast I mean days, well, yeah,
- 4:20Speaker 2: and like how long ago, like since we've been married,
- 4:23Speaker 2: of fasted on and off. So so you have not
- 4:27Speaker 2: always fasted, and you've had two kids, you've breastfed them,
- 4:31Speaker 2: you have worked, you've done all the stuff. Can you
- 4:35Speaker 2: talk about your fasting experience and how that culminated and
- 4:39Speaker 2: what you were able to do in this shred?
- 4:43Speaker 3: Well, in our lives, fasting became a topic worth conversation
- 4:49Speaker 3: about four years ago to date for you, Bennett was
- 4:53Speaker 3: about three at that time, I felt like my body
- 4:55Speaker 3: had stabilized a little bit, and we just started that
- 4:59Speaker 3: discipleship group and we went through celebration of discipline. Yes,
- 5:02Speaker 3: so probably my first swoop of fasting was in celebration
- 5:07Speaker 3: of discipline. It was an inward spiritual discipline that were
- 5:10Speaker 3: called to do to glorify the Lord. And I would
- 5:15Speaker 3: say at that time, I don't think I fully believed
- 5:19Speaker 3: I could do it, and so I really didn't try it.
- 5:22Speaker 3: I just thought that's not for me. Men can do that.
- 5:26Speaker 3: I probably took some scripture out of context to justify
- 5:30Speaker 3: that belief i'd created for myself. But two years ago
- 5:34Speaker 3: when the shred became something two.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Years yea, it was about two years ago that I
- 5:40Speaker 2: created the first protocol and ran everybody through it.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Yeah, and so I did the beginner shred and that
- 5:46Speaker 3: was fourteen hour fast. It's like I can do fourteen
- 5:49Speaker 3: hour fast, like just eat at six and don't snack
- 5:53Speaker 3: after and then I can break my fast breakfast at eight.
- 5:58Speaker 3: And so I started with fourteen hour fasting and the
- 6:02Speaker 3: long fasting there's at sixteen or eighteen sixteen. Sixteen sixteen
- 6:06Speaker 3: wasn't too bad. And so I feel like I journeyed
- 6:09Speaker 3: over a couple of years time where I just kept
- 6:12Speaker 3: adding two hours each time, and that helped my body
- 6:17Speaker 3: learn that I could do it, learn that it would
- 6:19Speaker 3: be okay. And it's like exercise, right. I had to
- 6:23Speaker 3: flex that muscle within me to prove to myself that
- 6:26Speaker 3: I could do it. Yeah, and then during this shred,
- 6:30Speaker 3: I've done it before, but I now can go twenty
- 6:33Speaker 3: four hours without food and that's just crazy to me
- 6:38Speaker 3: to even think that I could do that.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Yeah, well, that's a big deal because they've heard from
- 6:42Speaker 2: me before. But I've said it to you as well,
- 6:45Speaker 2: a woman of child bearing age, So if you haven't
- 6:48Speaker 2: started menopause yet, then you haven't someday and it'll be intense.
- 6:55Speaker 2: But if you haven't started menopause yet, then then your
- 6:58Speaker 2: hormonal system responds to going without food differently based on
- 7:02Speaker 2: your cycle, but also based on your stress level and whatnot.
- 7:05Speaker 2: And I've always said to women of child bearing age, hey,
- 7:08Speaker 2: you know, be cautious about fasting now that it's bad
- 7:12Speaker 2: for you. It's going to be harder for you to
- 7:14Speaker 2: create a discipline of fasting than for instance, myself. My
- 7:19Speaker 2: hormonal system is going to respond to fasting about the
- 7:22Speaker 2: same way, no matter what I don't have a cycle.
- 7:24Speaker 2: I don't have I don't have these ebbs and flows
- 7:26Speaker 2: of my internal system telling my body what to do
- 7:30Speaker 2: with my food, and so, like I've always said to you, like, hey,
- 7:34Speaker 2: if you're going to fast, you know, listen to your
- 7:36Speaker 2: body and don't worry if it doesn't work the same
- 7:40Speaker 2: way as mine.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Well, I think I learned that too, like cycles four
- 7:44Speaker 3: weeks and not to go down that rabbit trail. But
- 7:46Speaker 3: I know two weeks out of the month, I can
- 7:49Speaker 3: fast for twenty four hours much easier than the other
- 7:53Speaker 3: two weeks. And on those two weeks, I give myself
- 7:56Speaker 3: so much grace and I give myself permission that if
- 7:59Speaker 3: I'm not feeling good, like the sake of our household
- 8:02Speaker 3: and the piece within, it is not worth me checking
- 8:05Speaker 3: a box to say I fasted twenty four hours this week.
- 8:09Speaker 3: But then there are times where I'm just guided in
- 8:12Speaker 3: my head I'm gonna do it. I'm determined, and that's
- 8:14Speaker 3: where I'll do my bone broth and that will help me.
- 8:17Speaker 3: It's that twenty hour mark that I know I've hit,
- 8:20Speaker 3: I've made the switch, and I know the next four
- 8:23Speaker 3: are going to be the hardest four hours of the
- 8:26Speaker 3: twenty four hours. But that's where on those times I
- 8:28Speaker 3: would prefer to keep going without carbs, and I'll give
- 8:32Speaker 3: my body the sodium and the protein it needs to
- 8:35Speaker 3: help me make it those last four.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Yeah, and the shred. We do a lot of physical,
- 8:43Speaker 2: disciplinary measures to teach our body. Yeah, but at the
- 8:46Speaker 2: end of the day, you wanted to learn how to
- 8:48Speaker 2: fast because, like you said at the very beginning of
- 8:51Speaker 2: the story, it's a spiritual practice. It's something that you
- 8:54Speaker 2: can see throughout scripture. You can see it in response
- 8:56Speaker 2: to prayer. You can see it in response to grieving.
- 8:59Speaker 2: You can see it in response to seeking the Lord
- 9:02Speaker 2: communally for things that well, he calls a fast, spiritual
- 9:07Speaker 2: leaders call a fast. And so the shred, my heart
- 9:11Speaker 2: in the shred one is to help people understand how
- 9:14Speaker 2: they can teach their body how to burn fat as
- 9:17Speaker 2: a fuel source. That's a health and fitness thing. It's
- 9:20Speaker 2: something you can totally do that can create good adaptations
- 9:23Speaker 2: for you. But my heart also is our physical body
- 9:28Speaker 2: can become an impediment to doing spiritual things. And if
- 9:32Speaker 2: it's like, Hey, I have something really deep I want
- 9:34Speaker 2: to pray about, I should fast. But if I've never
- 9:37Speaker 2: cultivated the ability to fast. Yeah, you're just going to
- 9:41Speaker 2: be hungry and have a headache and be lightheaded and exhausted,
- 9:44Speaker 2: Like how like how deep are your prayer is going
- 9:47Speaker 2: to be? Yeah, you're just going to be like I'm fasting,
- 9:50Speaker 2: I'm really miserable and I can't remember what i was
- 9:53Speaker 2: praying about.
- 9:54Speaker 3: God speaks to me, but I'm so distracted. I don't
- 9:56Speaker 3: think I'm going to be able to hear you right now.
- 9:59Speaker 2: So for me to, I'm so proud of you, Like
- 10:01Speaker 2: that makes me really happy that you've been able to
- 10:03Speaker 2: cultivate that and also that that well, I mean it's
- 10:07Speaker 2: taken years. I think you've been very two years.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's good. And I think it's worth noting
- 10:13Speaker 3: that in the Shred you have three fast during your week,
- 10:17Speaker 3: too short and one long supermanageable, depending on if you
- 10:21Speaker 3: do the beginner or the veteran. I feel like I've
- 10:26Speaker 3: always just camped out as a beginner.
- 10:29Speaker 2: You can begin as long as you like.
- 10:30Speaker 3: I'm always beginning, and so within those three fast during
- 10:35Speaker 3: the week, I will be very honest and let you
- 10:38Speaker 3: know it's not all spiritual, like I'm not setting aside
- 10:43Speaker 3: all the time. I need to pray during those days.
- 10:46Speaker 3: It is a physical discipline that day. On my longer days,
- 10:51Speaker 3: I try so hard to look at my week and
- 10:53Speaker 3: see that, Okay, I can go twenty four hours on
- 10:55Speaker 3: this day during this week, because the schedule schedules are
- 10:59Speaker 3: always different, right, So I decided at the beginning of
- 11:01Speaker 3: the week which day will be my long fast, and
- 11:03Speaker 3: on that day, I'm going to make sure that it
- 11:05Speaker 3: is my spiritual discipline that day. But not every fast
- 11:09Speaker 3: during a week, especially when you're hitting three, can be
- 11:12Speaker 3: all spiritual. Sometimes it's just disciplining our flesh today.
- 11:16Speaker 2: True story, And in Hebrews it tells us that discipline
- 11:20Speaker 2: is not pleasant while we're doing it, but it will
- 11:22Speaker 2: yield the fruits of righteousness to those who have been
- 11:25Speaker 2: trained by it. And that's super true sometimes, And I mean,
- 11:29Speaker 2: you could relate this to working out, but fasting is
- 11:31Speaker 2: another discipline on that front. Sometimes you fast and it's
- 11:35Speaker 2: an amazing experience. You're like, I'm so close to God
- 11:39Speaker 2: right now, my prayers are clear. I can see his
- 11:42Speaker 2: fruit and even even His kingdom all around me. And
- 11:45Speaker 2: I've always I don't know if you notice this, when
- 11:48Speaker 2: I'm two or three days fasted. I'm always right on
- 11:51Speaker 2: the edge of happy tears, you know, like some things
- 11:54Speaker 2: just just really hit me in a positive way, and
- 11:58Speaker 2: I can see God's goodness and I'm even tearing up
- 12:01Speaker 2: just talking about it. But sometimes when I fast or
- 12:04Speaker 2: when I exercise, it's I mean, it's just I'm doing
- 12:07Speaker 2: this because I said I was going to do it,
- 12:09Speaker 2: and it's not not particularly enjoyable. I wouldn't tell you
- 12:13Speaker 2: that I felt necessarily any closer to God at the time.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Or and again, some workouts I really enjoy and I
- 12:19Speaker 2: have great experiences and they're deep, prayerful things. I'm like
- 12:22Speaker 2: great in some of them. It's like this is awful,
- 12:24Speaker 2: but I'm doing it. Yes, I'm doing it, like and
- 12:28Speaker 2: that's the wind like check, and sometimes the check is
- 12:32Speaker 2: a very redeeming thing. I did. I said what I
- 12:35Speaker 2: was going to do. Yes today, Yeah, well, I'm proud
- 12:38Speaker 2: of you for doing what you said you were going
- 12:40Speaker 2: to do.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Thanks. I also feel like I worked so hard to
- 12:43Speaker 3: get here that like, just because we're not shredding, I
- 12:47Speaker 3: can't stop doing it because, oh my goodness, Like I'm
- 12:50Speaker 3: sure you could lose some of the ability if you
- 12:53Speaker 3: just stopped.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Well, like the spirit of the shred isn't that you
- 12:57Speaker 2: live shredded all the time. You know, like like you know,
- 13:00Speaker 2: fast three days a week and eat only nutrient dense
- 13:03Speaker 2: foods and like hit ninety minutes of cardio. I think
- 13:06Speaker 2: that was for the beginner Ladies protocol, Like it's not
- 13:11Speaker 2: that you do that every week, It's that you take
- 13:14Speaker 2: one the adaptations from the shred and that those are
- 13:17Speaker 2: things that you can appreciate going forward. Like, as an example,
- 13:22Speaker 2: if my body gets better at burning fat as a
- 13:25Speaker 2: fuel source, and I can transition from burning a mixture
- 13:29Speaker 2: of carbohydrates and fats to burning just fats and my
- 13:32Speaker 2: body learns how to do that seamlessly, I can do
- 13:35Speaker 2: that all year. At any point that I want anything
- 13:37Speaker 2: that I that I want to pray about and fast about,
- 13:39Speaker 2: I can do that. Or let's say I just missed
- 13:41Speaker 2: breakfast today because it was a crazy day. Then by
- 13:45Speaker 2: three pm, I'm not starving and my head's not burning
- 13:48Speaker 2: and exhausted. I'm gonna be fine. I'm gonna have a
- 13:50Speaker 2: great dinner and it won't be a problem.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Just like me, Yes, Shay, what time was at one o'clock?
- 13:53Speaker 3: And I was like, oh my gosh, I don't think
- 13:54Speaker 3: I eat.
- 13:55Speaker 2: I forgot to eat, and that happens. And if you're
- 13:59Speaker 2: forgetting to eat all the time, you should make sure
- 14:01Speaker 2: you get enough nutrients. But it's not an impediment to you.
- 14:04Speaker 2: You build some grit with that. But you can take
- 14:07Speaker 2: practices from the Shred and go, mmm, this was really
- 14:11Speaker 2: good for me. I'm going to keep doing this thing.
- 14:15Speaker 2: And for some people it's that ninety minutes of cardio
- 14:18Speaker 2: for instance, Like, hey, it's not that hard to get
- 14:19Speaker 2: thirty minutes three times a week. I will make space
- 14:22Speaker 2: to get that each week because that's a good thing
- 14:24Speaker 2: to do. Like even the American Heart Association would tell
- 14:27Speaker 2: you nine minutes of cardio three days a week if
- 14:29Speaker 2: you want to be healthy, do that that. Just do that.
- 14:32Speaker 2: They don't teach weight training.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Yeah, as long as it's nice outside, it's very simple.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Right. Yeah, when it's snowy and icy, that's a little
- 14:39Speaker 2: bit different, right, But anyway, so you can take those things.
- 14:43Speaker 2: So the spirit of Shred you can do both of
- 14:45Speaker 2: those things. You can carry those adaptations, but you can
- 14:47Speaker 2: also take those behaviors that were useful to you and
- 14:50Speaker 2: now that you've experienced you like I know what that
- 14:52Speaker 2: feels like. I know how to do it, and I
- 14:54Speaker 2: can do it as long as I want. Yeah, is
- 14:56Speaker 2: there anything from the Shred that decides the fasting thing,
- 14:59Speaker 2: because yeah, we've talked about that a lot. Anything from
- 15:01Speaker 2: the Shred that you're like, it was hard for me
- 15:04Speaker 2: to do that every day or every week or whatever,
- 15:06Speaker 2: but I've carried that forward. Well.
- 15:10Speaker 3: I would say the three days a week of exercise.
- 15:12Speaker 3: I don't love exercise. I think I might have said
- 15:15Speaker 3: that last time. I don't love it, but I do
- 15:18Speaker 3: it because my body has to have it with my back.
- 15:20Speaker 3: I mean, if I don't have it, I'm asking you
- 15:22Speaker 3: to help me more often than I should. But I
- 15:27Speaker 3: have made it a discipline that no matter what, I'm
- 15:30Speaker 3: getting my three exercises in during a week. And I've
- 15:33Speaker 3: done that since the beginning of the year, and I'm
- 15:35Speaker 3: just I'm proud, I'm thankful, and I don't plan to stop.
- 15:38Speaker 3: But in the past I'd easily be like I'd look
- 15:41Speaker 3: at my week like I'm looking at next week and
- 15:43Speaker 3: I'm already like, when am I getting my three exercises
- 15:46Speaker 3: in this week? I'm gonna make it happen. But I mean,
- 15:49Speaker 3: it just takes the mindful awareness that I want to
- 15:52Speaker 3: do this and I know it's.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Good for me, and I like that that's a checklist
- 15:57Speaker 2: item for you, Like, Hey, this week, I'm going to
- 15:59Speaker 2: get three in because a lot of people can overcomplicate exercise.
- 16:02Speaker 2: I'm not saying there's not science to it and stuff,
- 16:04Speaker 2: but sometimes you just need to get your three sessions
- 16:06Speaker 2: in this week, whether it's cardio or weight training or whatever.
- 16:09Speaker 2: But you said something there, and my audience doesn't know this,
- 16:12Speaker 2: but Kristin has sculliosis, so her spine isn't as straight
- 16:18Speaker 2: as it needs to be for her to operate like
- 16:22Speaker 2: a normal human with a normal back. Right. So, and well,
- 16:26Speaker 2: it's a big deal for you because if you don't
- 16:29Speaker 2: take good care of that, it will hurt you. Yeah,
- 16:33Speaker 2: one hundred percent. And throughout our entire relationship, there have
- 16:36Speaker 2: been times where not that you weren't trying to take
- 16:40Speaker 2: care of yourself, but something was askew. Either either you
- 16:42Speaker 2: had to be on your feet too long, or maybe
- 16:44Speaker 2: this is a very busy season, you weren't able to
- 16:46Speaker 2: lift weights like you normally do, or or maybe you
- 16:49Speaker 2: were pushing Bennett and the stroller too often. Whatever, But
- 16:52Speaker 2: that your hips and your shoulder and your neck and
- 16:55Speaker 2: your knees or whatever else they because of that curve.
- 16:59Speaker 2: They told you, hey, we're not okay and you need
- 17:03Speaker 2: to fix something. And so many people wrestle with that,
- 17:07Speaker 2: but they don't always know that this relates to Hey,
- 17:10Speaker 2: I if I were able to get my exercise in,
- 17:12Speaker 2: I would see less of these episodes. It's not going
- 17:15Speaker 2: to be perfect, but I would see less of this
- 17:17Speaker 2: pain in my life. Would you say that avoiding pain
- 17:21Speaker 2: is one of the reasons you're willing to exercise, even
- 17:24Speaker 2: though you don't always enjoy it.
- 17:25Speaker 3: It's probably the only reason I do fair enough, Yeah,
- 17:32Speaker 3: I mean because if my back's not strong and my
- 17:35Speaker 3: core is not as strong as it can be, it
- 17:38Speaker 3: will always be my weakest link. But I'm not gonna
- 17:41Speaker 3: bend well, I'm not gonna squat well. I'll do things
- 17:44Speaker 3: that will just injure me way faster. But because I
- 17:47Speaker 3: have those muscles, which gives me the stability, I know,
- 17:50Speaker 3: I'm in way less pain than I should be.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Well, and as a husband, I'm really grateful for that
- 17:56Speaker 2: because I know I don't know how this works scientifically speaking,
- 18:00Speaker 2: but I know that if you're in pain. I would
- 18:03Speaker 2: rather me be in pain, Like I'm going to worry
- 18:06Speaker 2: about you all day long because because you're you're like
- 18:09Speaker 2: you're a part of me, and I would rather deal
- 18:13Speaker 2: with with my own pain than to see you in pain.
- 18:17Speaker 2: And so like, there's only so much I can do
- 18:19Speaker 2: to help you, know, like I'm pretty good with my hands,
- 18:22Speaker 2: and I can massage your neck, and I can stretch you,
- 18:24Speaker 2: I can do all kinds of stuff to help ease
- 18:26Speaker 2: your pain. But you have to do your part exactly.
- 18:30Speaker 2: And so like, I'm so grateful as a husband that
- 18:34Speaker 2: you say, you know, hey, I've got this issue. It's
- 18:37Speaker 2: not easy to deal with. Sometimes it would be way
- 18:40Speaker 2: more convenient if I didn't have to deal with it.
- 18:43Speaker 2: But I'm going to do my part to make the
- 18:45Speaker 2: most of this, and that that's a blessing to me.
- 18:48Speaker 2: I know you're not in here lifting weights, thinking like
- 18:49Speaker 2: I'm loving my husband so well right now, she's not.
- 18:53Speaker 2: She hasn't thought of that, but unless you do, but
- 18:55Speaker 2: that would be nice. But I'm I know that like
- 18:59Speaker 2: when when you're taking good care of yourself that way,
- 19:01Speaker 2: it makes me feel loved that I don't have to
- 19:04Speaker 2: worry as much about you so thank you get it.
- 19:09Speaker 3: You keep her out in the workouts, I'll keep doing them.
- 19:13Speaker 2: There's so many things I could say. So the shred's done. Yes,
- 19:17Speaker 2: And during the shred there was some things that you
- 19:20Speaker 2: gave up because they're not nutrient dense, but you like them,
- 19:26Speaker 2: and well that's important. So can you give us, like
- 19:30Speaker 2: your top three things that when the shred was done,
- 19:32Speaker 2: you're like, Okay, this needs to re enter my nutrition cycle.
- 19:37Speaker 2: I don't have to like go overboard, but but I
- 19:40Speaker 2: missed these things. What are those top three things?
- 19:42Speaker 3: Wow? I know them so bad.
- 19:44Speaker 2: I know you do.
- 19:46Speaker 3: Well. The first thing I did was get a cheeseburger
- 19:50Speaker 3: and onion rings sprim rovers. It was so stinking good.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Diet coke. Love my diet coke, but I only have
- 20:00Speaker 3: one a week, but on the shred I got none
- 20:02Speaker 3: in a week, and then recy cups. Those are my
- 20:07Speaker 3: top three.
- 20:08Speaker 2: I could have told you that, but it was better
- 20:09Speaker 2: coming from That's cool. That's cool. It makes me think
- 20:14Speaker 2: of Gabriel running into his room the other day when
- 20:17Speaker 2: you're like, does anybody have chocolate?
- 20:19Speaker 3: Well, spining for chocolate, and then it brought me a
- 20:22Speaker 3: Snickers bar and I was like Okay, that's good. And
- 20:24Speaker 3: Gabriel brings me a snicker. So I was like, you win,
- 20:26Speaker 3: and he's like.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Yeah, our ten year olds having a hard time scorn
- 20:30Speaker 2: points with mom right now. So he's like, yeah, I
- 20:33Speaker 2: go like I win. It was a big one too.
- 20:35Speaker 2: It was a big RecA cup.
- 20:36Speaker 3: It was a normal sized rec cup. But Jesus, it
- 20:39Speaker 3: was only No, it was just my one cup. That's
- 20:41Speaker 3: all I needed.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Oh, I thought he brought you four. I need to
- 20:44Speaker 4: teach that boy, all right, I was being good, Oh
- 20:49Speaker 4: you are. I just gotta teach him to score more
- 20:51Speaker 4: brownie points with mom.
- 20:52Speaker 2: This is it?
- 20:53Speaker 3: Well, then you should have a stash of recy cups
- 20:56Speaker 3: in your closet.
- 20:57Speaker 2: I can't do it for him. I can't do it
- 20:58Speaker 2: for him. No, this has to be on him. It's
- 21:03Speaker 2: we'll talk about that later anyway. So, uh, I feel
- 21:08Speaker 2: like we've we've really really gotten through the shred. Yeah okay,
- 21:12Speaker 2: So what was the effect on your body? You fasted
- 21:15Speaker 2: ate like a boss, you met all your exercise.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Goold my results?
- 21:19Speaker 2: Yeah, what was what was the effect on your body?
- 21:21Speaker 1: How?
- 21:21Speaker 2: How did it feel like? If you so any changes?
- 21:24Speaker 2: What were the changes?
- 21:25Speaker 4: Like?
- 21:26Speaker 2: What were the effects on you.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I refuse to take the pictures, but just it's
- 21:32Speaker 3: okay if you do. I don't. But on the scale,
- 21:35Speaker 3: let's see what it was it nine pounds of fat.
- 21:38Speaker 3: Nine pounds of fat loss.
- 21:40Speaker 2: In four weeks, I know, and you're like a bit person.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Yeah that's impressive.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't want to get back on the scale.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Post cheeseburger scale weight.
- 21:51Speaker 3: I weighed out after that cheeseburger you did?
- 21:53Speaker 2: You did those nine pounds of fat include.
- 21:58Speaker 3: I don't think I anat dinner that though. Oh it
- 22:01Speaker 3: was so full, And I think physically weak ones always
- 22:06Speaker 3: pretty easy because you're excited and you're like, I'm going
- 22:08Speaker 3: to be so disciplined. Week two is hard for me.
- 22:11Speaker 3: I don't know why. Week two is like I'm really
- 22:13Speaker 3: doing this, Like do I really should? I really? I
- 22:15Speaker 3: could back out now it'd be lasier. So week two
- 22:17Speaker 3: is hard. But by week four I felt so good,
- 22:22Speaker 3: very clear headed, very high energy, and then overall just
- 22:28Speaker 3: just feeling accomplished. Es something for you to know that
- 22:32Speaker 3: I stuck with it. One. I didn't cheat once because
- 22:34Speaker 3: I've done a shred where I don't I really shouldn't
- 22:38Speaker 3: say I even did the stress really didn't do well. Yeah,
- 22:42Speaker 3: I kind of shredded. I don't even think it weighed
- 22:45Speaker 3: on that one.
- 22:46Speaker 2: So, but you were just supporting me. You're like, I'm shredding.
- 22:50Speaker 3: I'm shredding. I think I quit posting after two weeks. No, overall,
- 22:56Speaker 3: I love the Shred. I will always do it. It's
- 23:00Speaker 3: so good.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Well, so we're talking about something that happened in the past. Yeah,
- 23:04Speaker 2: but we do this twice a year, and so our
- 23:06Speaker 2: next shred is going to be for the summer. We
- 23:09Speaker 2: usually do it in May, and we call it the
- 23:11Speaker 2: Summer Shred.
- 23:12Speaker 3: I do I think it was just twice a year.
- 23:13Speaker 3: We do three a year.
- 23:15Speaker 2: No, we do two a year.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Oh, we don't do it at the end of the year.
- 23:18Speaker 2: That's the grow Challenge, a very different game, lots of
- 23:22Speaker 2: carrot cake and lifting. Oh. But so we do the
- 23:28Speaker 2: shred twice a year. And if you aren't on our
- 23:31Speaker 2: newsletter already, you can find the subscription in the show
- 23:35Speaker 2: notes below. And then when we do the shred, you'll
- 23:37Speaker 2: get all the information you need for it. And we'd
- 23:39Speaker 2: love for you to join us because I'll be shredding,
- 23:42Speaker 2: you'll be shredding.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Yeah, right before summer. Perfect time perfathe and suit time.
- 23:47Speaker 2: That's right.
- 23:47Speaker 3: One thing you did this time that was so good
- 23:50Speaker 3: that I don't think you've done it before, but you
- 23:51Speaker 3: got to keep doing it was you did the prep time.
- 23:54Speaker 3: How many days of prep?
- 23:55Speaker 2: We did? Five? Five prep days.
- 23:58Speaker 3: And that's so important because especially if this is a
- 24:02Speaker 3: big change for you, going in on day one without
- 24:06Speaker 3: any prep is not really setting you up for success.
- 24:09Speaker 3: And so just that little bit of buffer to get
- 24:12Speaker 3: people's minds wrapped around it, to clean out the fridge
- 24:15Speaker 3: or the pantry, if you need to to do your
- 24:18Speaker 3: meal pleaning and get to the grocery store to make
- 24:20Speaker 3: sure we day one, week one is going to start
- 24:23Speaker 3: up all for you is super important. I think back
- 24:25Speaker 3: to when we when I led people through Detoks. Yeah,
- 24:28Speaker 3: we had it was a two week detox. There was
- 24:31Speaker 3: a whole week of prep because like, if you're sugar
- 24:33Speaker 3: dependent or caffeine dependent, you will not enjoy those furst
- 24:37Speaker 3: few days. So we got to keep that prep time
- 24:39Speaker 3: in there.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I think that's a good point. And
- 24:42Speaker 2: we did, like we looked through our pantry to find
- 24:46Speaker 2: things that hey, these these aren't shred foods, and if
- 24:48Speaker 2: they're a p you got to get them out either
- 24:51Speaker 2: either get them out or like for our kids, we
- 24:53Speaker 2: put gram crackers on a certain shelf and that's the
- 24:55Speaker 2: kid's shelf and we don't have to worry about gram
- 24:57Speaker 2: crackers when we're looking in the pantry for for different
- 25:00Speaker 2: things and just stuff like that. Are planning out the fasts,
- 25:04Speaker 2: like she was talking about, like there was a prep
- 25:07Speaker 2: day to answer questions about fasts and also to look
- 25:10Speaker 2: at your calendar and say, hey, what days this week
- 25:12Speaker 2: make the most sense.
- 25:13Speaker 3: It's going to work.
- 25:14Speaker 2: So yeah, it was. It was.
- 25:16Speaker 3: The goal is not to fill like crap the whole time.
- 25:18Speaker 3: That's not a goal. But if you don't do any
- 25:22Speaker 3: of that prep work, it's probably going to be a
- 25:25Speaker 3: lot harder than it could be.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Right, And if your body learns to burn fat as
- 25:29Speaker 2: a fuel sources doesn't have to make you feel bad. Yeah.
- 25:32Speaker 2: So anyway, the links for in the show notes, for
- 25:35Speaker 2: being a part of the newsletter, you'll get all the
- 25:36Speaker 2: communication when we do our next shred. Would love for
- 25:38Speaker 2: you to join us on that.
- 25:40Speaker 3: I can do it, you can do it.
- 25:44Speaker 2: I'm so proud of you. You're so cool. All Right,
- 25:47Speaker 2: So I want to talk about what we just did
- 25:50Speaker 2: because you have taken a new position in our company.
- 25:54Speaker 2: I have promoted her, or she promoted herself. I guess
- 25:58Speaker 2: to our shipping manager, you're our residence shipping manager. We
- 26:03Speaker 2: just got all of these Faithful Fitness copies in, yeah,
- 26:08Speaker 2: big boxes of books for all the pre orders, which
- 26:11Speaker 2: thank you if you were a pre order that that
- 26:14Speaker 2: was such a cool experience. But we got all these
- 26:16Speaker 2: boxes in and we wanted to make sure that our
- 26:19Speaker 2: pre orders got the Faithful Fitness devotional on well before
- 26:24Speaker 2: day one of the Faithful forty challenge. So we have
- 26:26Speaker 2: a new challenge. It goes every March and every October.
- 26:29Speaker 2: It's not really new, We've been doing it. It's just
- 26:31Speaker 2: new to do it with the actual devotional. Yeah, like
- 26:34Speaker 2: in our hands. Last time we had to do it
- 26:36Speaker 2: like the I'm the anyway, it wasn't as cool. I
- 26:40Speaker 2: don't I don't like to read electronically. I prefer to like,
- 26:43Speaker 2: you know, feel it and see it. Okay. So anyway,
- 26:46Speaker 2: so we got all those out in an afternoon. Yeah, like, well,
- 26:52Speaker 2: thank goodness, she knows what she's doing because I was
- 26:54Speaker 2: over there signing stuff. But she was like slapping labels
- 26:58Speaker 2: on things and making sure they got out and one
- 27:00Speaker 2: of them have a return to us. And I've gotten
- 27:02Speaker 2: quite a few texts and messages that are like I
- 27:05Speaker 2: got my book. Yeah, So I there's all kinds of
- 27:10Speaker 2: things we can talk about here, but one of the
- 27:11Speaker 2: things I wanted to talk about, because this isn't going
- 27:14Speaker 2: to be the last time we talked about this book,
- 27:15Speaker 2: but I wanted to talk about your experience in me
- 27:19Speaker 2: writing this thing because I'm kind of ADHD and I
- 27:25Speaker 2: mean I'm not diagnosed, but like Ridlin would make would
- 27:28Speaker 2: would make me much more focused, and it was hard
- 27:32Speaker 2: for me to write this. And I've been talking to
- 27:34Speaker 2: you about writing a book. I've started like seven of
- 27:37Speaker 2: them at this point. I've been talking to you about
- 27:39Speaker 2: writing a book since I don't know how long. It
- 27:41Speaker 2: was a whole life, our whole life, our whole long life,
- 27:47Speaker 2: I mean, our whole marriage, right, Like.
- 27:48Speaker 3: That's what I mean, our life.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we're almost eleven years in.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Yeah, but I just remember when we were first together
- 27:58Speaker 3: and you always woke up earlier than me. Still do,
- 28:02Speaker 3: but I'd wake up often and you were writing, and
- 28:05Speaker 3: I'd just come cuddle up beside you and let you
- 28:07Speaker 3: finish writing. Until I was ready to talk. But You've
- 28:10Speaker 3: always been a writer. That's just part of who you are.
- 28:13Speaker 3: You write all the time. Fun fact, he writes me
- 28:17Speaker 3: a letter every year, and so on our anniversary I
- 28:21Speaker 3: get like a ten page letter recapping the year and
- 28:25Speaker 3: any sweet little love notes you want to write me
- 28:27Speaker 3: throughout the year. You're a writer, and that's just part
- 28:30Speaker 3: of who you are and it always has been. And so,
- 28:33Speaker 3: like you said, right now, on your laptop, you probably
- 28:35Speaker 3: still have six books that have been started. And so
- 28:39Speaker 3: I just remember you've always been like, I'm going to
- 28:41Speaker 3: write a book. I just don't know which book it'll be,
- 28:43Speaker 3: like which one will be the first. And then the
- 28:47Speaker 3: Lord just made it so clear to you that this
- 28:49Speaker 3: would be your first. And once that revelation came, there
- 28:54Speaker 3: was no stopping you.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Yeah, oh gosh, I was insufferable. Like it sounds nice, but.
- 29:00Speaker 3: We've had time to process.
- 29:05Speaker 2: I don't know if you know what it feels like,
- 29:07Speaker 2: but all I can explain it is like something bouncing
- 29:09Speaker 2: around in your head, stealing your bandwidth. And I get
- 29:13Speaker 2: irritable when that's the case. And so like I've mean,
- 29:16Speaker 2: like I have to go get this out, being like yeah,
- 29:18Speaker 2: I'm being snippy and snooty and annoying and whatever, and
- 29:21Speaker 2: she's like, go get it, go right, leave us alone,
- 29:24Speaker 2: go right, and and I'm I'm just I've said this before,
- 29:28Speaker 2: but I'm so grateful for you on that front, because
- 29:30Speaker 2: like I just needed to go write it down. I
- 29:33Speaker 2: needed to go get it out of my heart and
- 29:36Speaker 2: my mind. And then in order to do this, this
- 29:39Speaker 2: wasn't like a like go write it down once thing.
- 29:41Speaker 2: I had to make this a discipline. So I decided
- 29:45Speaker 2: prayerfully to set aside Thursdays. So Thursdays in my writing day.
- 29:49Speaker 2: I'm going to help you get the kids ready for school,
- 29:52Speaker 2: and then I'm out and I don't I'm not going
- 29:55Speaker 2: to talk to anybody. My phone's going to be on
- 29:57Speaker 2: airplane mode and which is which is can tents, but
- 30:01Speaker 2: like like it's going to be on airplane mode, and
- 30:03Speaker 2: then I'm going to write and then I will come home.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Like what was that like for you as a wife?
- 30:07Speaker 2: Because you supported me? But also I mean sometimes you
- 30:10Speaker 2: got to get ahold of your husband and sometimes like
- 30:13Speaker 2: I mean, it's a book, like right it next week?
- 30:17Speaker 3: Well, no, I think I think back, and I'm sure
- 30:21Speaker 3: I wasn't as gracious as I could have been in
- 30:23Speaker 3: the whole process. But I think back to the first
- 30:28Speaker 3: day you went to write. We talked so much, and
- 30:32Speaker 3: so I'm sure we just came to the conversation that
- 30:34Speaker 3: Thursdays are what's going to work best for our house.
- 30:36Speaker 3: I'm sure we made that decision together. It's just I've
- 30:38Speaker 3: slept a lot since then. But I remember the first
- 30:41Speaker 3: day you came home and you were just beaming with
- 30:45Speaker 3: joy and excitement because you're like, I did it. I
- 30:48Speaker 3: mapped out all forty days. Like it was like you
- 30:50Speaker 3: and the Lord downloaded and you had all forty days.
- 30:55Speaker 3: You knew the four pillars, and you knew your people
- 30:57Speaker 3: for the pillars, so like you didn't write it all out,
- 30:59Speaker 3: but had a pretty solid rough draft outline of what
- 31:05Speaker 3: it was going to look like. And as your wife,
- 31:08Speaker 3: when your husband is so excited and you can just
- 31:12Speaker 3: see the passionate and like you're like, I I got
- 31:16Speaker 3: your back one hundred and ten percent whatever this needs
- 31:18Speaker 3: to look, like like I'm here for it, whatever cost.
- 31:21Speaker 3: It's gonna be the sacrifice, like it's just gonna be
- 31:23Speaker 3: worth it. Because you were just so excited and I
- 31:27Speaker 3: was so excited to support that. I'm sure there was
- 31:30Speaker 3: some harder Thursdays in there because fun fact, he does
- 31:36Speaker 3: not allow text messages. He decides when he's gonna look
- 31:40Speaker 3: at his text messages. And this is still him today,
- 31:43Speaker 3: Like even yesterday, I texted you a screenshot of something
- 31:47Speaker 3: that he needed to address, and I was like, I
- 31:49Speaker 3: just texted you. I need you to look at cause
- 31:51Speaker 3: I know if I didn't do that, it'd be hours
- 31:52Speaker 3: before you actually looked at the text message.
- 31:55Speaker 2: True story.
- 31:56Speaker 3: So he's never ignoring it. He's likely just not looking
- 31:59Speaker 3: at us.
- 32:00Speaker 2: I think I need a phone just for her. This
- 32:03Speaker 2: is the Christen phone. If that one gets a text,
- 32:05Speaker 2: we'll look at that immediately.
- 32:09Speaker 3: There. Get all those flip phones.
- 32:13Speaker 2: It doesn't have to be a cool my burner phone,
- 32:15Speaker 2: my wife's burner phone. We could have some moment that.
- 32:20Speaker 3: You have to peck it like three times.
- 32:25Speaker 2: That's good, Okay, fun, that's funny. So I did want
- 32:32Speaker 2: to ask you about another aspect of this whole book thing.
- 32:36Speaker 2: I'm a I'm a new author. I'm unknown basically, like
- 32:40Speaker 2: I guess I'm known now, like I have a name
- 32:42Speaker 2: on the book now, but I didn't have that before.
- 32:45Speaker 2: And so this was my first time publishing anything. It's
- 32:47Speaker 2: not like a publishing company called me up and was like, hey,
- 32:49Speaker 2: we love your work, We're going to pay you X
- 32:52Speaker 2: dollars to publish this blah blah blah. So so I
- 32:56Speaker 2: connected with a company that helps me publish a book,
- 33:00Speaker 2: like helps me design prints, it, like own some of
- 33:03Speaker 2: the things that as a new author I just had
- 33:05Speaker 2: no clue about. And you know, writing's writings like this
- 33:09Speaker 2: much of writing a.
- 33:10Speaker 3: Book that was the revelation and all of that.
- 33:14Speaker 2: But we had to spend money on this, like this
- 33:16Speaker 2: was this was something that as a household we had
- 33:18Speaker 2: to say, hey that I mean, this is going to
- 33:19Speaker 2: be an investment. It's it's going to be a while
- 33:21Speaker 2: before this investment even realizes and maybe it never will.
- 33:25Speaker 2: And we had to talk about that as a couple
- 33:28Speaker 2: and say this is worth investing in. Can you tell
- 33:31Speaker 2: me about what that experience was like as a wife too,
- 33:33Speaker 2: because I mean it's a big project and you're way
- 33:36Speaker 2: more stingy with money than I am, Like, like she
- 33:38Speaker 2: will wait a week to buy something because she knows
- 33:41Speaker 2: it's going to have fifty percent off, which is a
- 33:43Speaker 2: smart thing to do, but when I need to buy something,
- 33:46Speaker 2: I just go buy it, and.
- 33:48Speaker 3: That's not even how much it cost.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Yeah, but I need it. So there's that. But so
- 33:55Speaker 2: so f from husband to wife, like, what does that?
- 33:58Speaker 2: What did that whole process look like for you? Because
- 34:02Speaker 2: I saw it, and I understood the price tag, and
- 34:05Speaker 2: I understood what I was investing in. But that's a
- 34:08Speaker 2: hard thing to articulate to your wife who's already making
- 34:11Speaker 2: sacrifices for you to go actually write the dang thing.
- 34:16Speaker 3: Well, thankfully, we've been together long enough that we know
- 34:19Speaker 3: how to handle money conversations. Because I am pretty frugal
- 34:24Speaker 3: with spending. I'd prefer it to be in the bank
- 34:29Speaker 3: then to invest in. But again, we've just cultivated open
- 34:36Speaker 3: and honest conversation with each other so well that even
- 34:40Speaker 3: the hard conversation when the price tag was discussed and
- 34:47Speaker 3: I had to wrestle with am I okay with this? Ultimately,
- 34:53Speaker 3: I think you helped me understand all the pieces that
- 34:57Speaker 3: went into it to give me the piece that my
- 35:00Speaker 3: heart and mind needed to commit to it. And so
- 35:05Speaker 3: I wouldn't say some switch flipped in me. We just
- 35:07Speaker 3: had enough conversation and enough honesty to where I could
- 35:11Speaker 3: bring you my concerns. I think also you really respected
- 35:14Speaker 3: me in it because you shopped around with several of
- 35:17Speaker 3: them were as some more and more expensive to a
- 35:20Speaker 3: point where I wasn't as comfortable. But it's likely we
- 35:24Speaker 3: met in the middle, which is what we always do.
- 35:26Speaker 3: And so through that you gave me the assurance and
- 35:30Speaker 3: piece of it. But I'm so thankful we did it,
- 35:33Speaker 3: and I have full confidence that this will be a blessing
- 35:36Speaker 3: for many and our household.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, And like that's I think that's one of
- 35:42Speaker 2: the hardest things about running a business is that as
- 35:45Speaker 2: a as a couple, whether or not you're involved in
- 35:49Speaker 2: a decision, all of our business decisions affect you. Yeah,
- 35:52Speaker 2: and our kids and our household and whatnot. And and
- 35:58Speaker 2: you know, she would tell you, and I would tell you,
- 36:00Speaker 2: even though she's the stingy one about money, that nothing
- 36:04Speaker 2: we've done as a household is to make a bunch
- 36:07Speaker 2: of money. It's to be a good steward with what
- 36:10Speaker 2: God's given us and to use the resources He's brought
- 36:13Speaker 2: to us, to invest them well, to build good things,
- 36:18Speaker 2: and also to just not be unwise with them. And
- 36:22Speaker 2: so I have a different idea in my mind about
- 36:25Speaker 2: how that works, and you have a different idea in
- 36:28Speaker 2: your mind about how that works. But marriage is if
- 36:31Speaker 2: God's in the middle of it. We take both of
- 36:34Speaker 2: our perspectives and we bring them together. And I'm always
- 36:37Speaker 2: so grateful that if it feels to me, if I'm
- 36:39Speaker 2: honest with you and you're honest with me, especially about
- 36:42Speaker 2: your feelings and your thoughts and vice versa, that we
- 36:45Speaker 2: come up with a better solution to an issue than
- 36:48Speaker 2: we could have by ourself. So like I wouldn't have
- 36:53Speaker 2: you knowing me, I would not have shopped around if
- 36:56Speaker 2: I didn't have to talk to you about this, Like
- 36:58Speaker 2: I would not have shopped around. I've been like, oh,
- 37:00Speaker 2: found this a good publishing company, five stars, Like here's
- 37:04Speaker 2: the cost, great, let's do it. It's Greateah, it's great.
- 37:07Speaker 2: And what's funny. I don't know if I told you
- 37:09Speaker 2: this or not. The final number that we came to
- 37:13Speaker 2: was it was the middle of the road, but it
- 37:16Speaker 2: was actually one of the most expensive packages that because
- 37:19Speaker 2: I called them and was on their mailing list, they
- 37:22Speaker 2: sent me marketing for forty percent off, and it ended
- 37:25Speaker 2: up being a middle priced package by the end of it.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Because I didn't move on the top tier thing I
- 37:32Speaker 2: was interested in, and so the just the wisdom of knowing, Hey,
- 37:38Speaker 2: my wife's involved in this. I want her, I want
- 37:40Speaker 2: her opinion. She has a different perspective than I do.
- 37:43Speaker 2: It's our household, our money. We're trying to figure out
- 37:45Speaker 2: what best to do with it. Just that process alone,
- 37:49Speaker 2: even if you didn't have an opinion about which package
- 37:52Speaker 2: was best, just that process alone got us a better
- 37:57Speaker 2: deal as a household, which is really cool. One of
- 37:59Speaker 2: the reasons that the book looks so good.
- 38:01Speaker 3: Yeah, it does. It looks great.
- 38:03Speaker 2: Yeah, So I wanted to I could talk to you
- 38:06Speaker 2: for a long time. As you know, we'll probably talk later,
- 38:08Speaker 2: but I can see both of our backs are like, hey,
- 38:10Speaker 2: it's time to be done sitting on this. So but
- 38:13Speaker 2: did I did want to offer you guys something and
- 38:14Speaker 2: thank you for hanging out with us and doing this.
- 38:17Speaker 2: So I've been signing these. I've been signing them, and
- 38:21Speaker 2: my shipping manager here has been making sure they get
- 38:25Speaker 2: to everybody in a timely maner. We're almost competitive with Amazon, and.
- 38:28Speaker 3: I really think we are.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Maybe one day.
- 38:31Speaker 3: Yeah, Amazon so fickle, it could be five days.
- 38:33Speaker 2: That's two that they could be like Hey, we're on
- 38:35Speaker 2: back order. We're three dayship, three day shipping. Yay PayPal.
- 38:40Speaker 2: But so so I've been signing these as as copies
- 38:45Speaker 2: to sign and send individuals who are supporting the book,
- 38:48Speaker 2: who are interested in reading it and whatnot. And so
- 38:51Speaker 2: I actually want to do a giveaway where we give
- 38:54Speaker 2: this book away a signed copy right here. But it's
- 38:58Speaker 2: it's really special because you guys have just heard a
- 39:01Speaker 2: little about what it's been like to be my wife
- 39:03Speaker 2: through this process, and so she has agreed to sign
- 39:08Speaker 2: this copy as well, and we're going to give that
- 39:10Speaker 2: to somebody. She goes, I didn't write it. They're not
- 39:12Speaker 2: gonna think it's that special. You're very special. Your name
- 39:17Speaker 2: deserves to be here just as much as mine does.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Only it would be confusing because they'd be like, which
- 39:21Speaker 2: part of this did Kristen write?
- 39:23Speaker 3: And ya don't want me to write anything?
- 39:25Speaker 2: Your writing style is different. But it's good. It would
- 39:28Speaker 2: be cool maybe someday, maybe someday hashtag relationship goals. But anyway,
- 39:34Speaker 2: we're going to give this copy away with her signature
- 39:36Speaker 2: and my signature in it. And here's what you have
- 39:39Speaker 2: to do to do this whole giveaway thing. All The
- 39:43Speaker 2: instructions are in the show notes, but basically step one
- 39:46Speaker 2: is you need to screenshot this ready, big smile right there? Sweet? Okay?
- 39:53Speaker 2: Screenshot that. Then what I want you to do is
- 39:56Speaker 2: I want you to follow the link below and join
- 39:59Speaker 2: the Faithful Forward Each Other Challenge. You can join that.
- 40:01Speaker 2: There's a link for it. We run it every March
- 40:03Speaker 2: in October, and after this video publishes, you have an
- 40:07Speaker 2: opportunity to join. It's right there, join the Faithful forty Challenge.
- 40:10Speaker 2: And then step three is take that screenshot you just
- 40:14Speaker 2: posted and post it to your social media. We've written
- 40:17Speaker 2: a caption for you below in the show notes, and
- 40:20Speaker 2: if you don't follow the caption, I won't know you
- 40:22Speaker 2: posted this because the caption is how we're going to
- 40:25Speaker 2: discover you, contact you and send you this copy. So
- 40:30Speaker 2: I can't wait for you to sign your first copy
- 40:33Speaker 2: of Faithful Fitness so we can give it away.
- 40:35Speaker 3: All right, I'll do it.
- 40:38Speaker 2: I'm so excited. Our moms are going to be like,
- 40:40Speaker 2: I'm getting that copy, all right, post it mom, all
- 40:45Speaker 2: right anyway, so you'll enter the drawing, we'll give it away.
- 40:48Speaker 2: And also, thank you so much for joining us and
- 40:50Speaker 2: for your thoughts and questions and whatnot that led to
- 40:54Speaker 2: these podcast conversations. Do you have anything that you'd like
- 40:57Speaker 2: to say in closing before we end our official number
- 41:01Speaker 2: two podcast with the shipping manager and CEO of Faithful Fitness.
- 41:09Speaker 3: Off the top of my head, because we didn't prop
- 41:11Speaker 3: this question, I would just give his audience a big
- 41:18Speaker 3: thank you. Your support to my husband means the world.
- 41:20Speaker 3: Your support to my husband blesses him, the community, our family,
- 41:26Speaker 3: and without you guys, he wouldn't be able to passionately
- 41:29Speaker 3: pursue what the Lord's laid on his heart to do.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Thank you for that. On that note, she didn't know
- 41:36Speaker 2: I was going to share this, but I just like,
- 41:38Speaker 2: just before this podcast interview, like an hour ago, I
- 41:41Speaker 2: just had the opportunity to speak with about thirty five
- 41:45Speaker 2: students middle school up to high school around the country.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Because of my connections in the health and fitness world.
- 41:53Speaker 2: I got to speak to them about exercise science and
- 41:56Speaker 2: what's really cool is a lot of those kids I had,
- 41:59Speaker 2: some from India, some from France, some from Argentina have
- 42:02Speaker 2: no clue what walk of life they're in, but they
- 42:06Speaker 2: researched me and they found all my stuff on YouTube
- 42:08Speaker 2: and during our conversation, there's a big giant cross in
- 42:11Speaker 2: the background, and I got to talk to them about
- 42:13Speaker 2: how our belief changes the physiology of our body, and
- 42:17Speaker 2: they had some amazing questions. And so I want you
- 42:19Speaker 2: to know, just as our audience and as a supporters
- 42:22Speaker 2: of Faithful Fitness and buying this book and being a
- 42:26Speaker 2: part of our app and whatnot, you're supporting work that
- 42:28Speaker 2: is impacting and influencing a large group of people, whether
- 42:31Speaker 2: you see it or not. So thank you for allowing
- 42:33Speaker 2: us to plant those seeds. Good call. Yeah, all right, guys,
- 42:37Speaker 2: this has been coach Alex van Houghten and my lovely wife,
- 42:40Speaker 2: registered dietitian, shipping manager, mother extraordinary Kristen van Houghten. All

- 42:49Speaker 2: until next time. Train hard, but pray harder.
- 42:54Speaker 1: What's up for this episode? Help? Do you share it
