Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: How fast-food companies are reacting to the weight loss jab craze
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You've probably noticed a few people. Now there are loads
- 0:02Speaker 1: of them out there on the jab and looking quite skinny,
- 0:04Speaker 1: thank you very much. This is the weight loss miracle drugs,
- 0:08Speaker 1: meaning people eat less, less food less often fewer cravings.
- 0:12Speaker 1: That means that demand for fatty, deep fried food and
- 0:15Speaker 1: lots of sugary drinks and sugary food is shrinking about
- 0:18Speaker 1: as quick as people's waistlines. They reckon. This is just
- 0:22Speaker 1: crazy to think about fifteen percent of Americans will be
- 0:26Speaker 1: on these drugs within a decade. Calorie intake will drop
- 0:30Speaker 1: twenty percent. Crazy. This is a problem if you're a
- 0:34Speaker 1: company that makes fatty, high sugar food. The drugs are
- 0:38Speaker 1: basically killing your demand. They're stealing your customer. And the
- 0:42Speaker 1: ready made companies and the fast food companies are now
- 0:45Speaker 1: scheming up ways to change their products to appeal to
- 0:48Speaker 1: the Wagovi diet. There's a piece in the Wall Street
- 0:51Speaker 1: Journal about this this morning. They're basically going for high protein,
- 0:54Speaker 1: lean meat options. The weight loss drugs attack your muscle
- 0:59Speaker 1: as well. You're fat, so you need more protein otherwise
- 1:02Speaker 1: you fall over and break leg, which basically tells you.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I think that for a lot of humans there's no
- 1:08Speaker 1: control over your diet. But there's also no longer a
- 1:12Speaker 1: need for control over your diet. If you think about it,
- 1:14Speaker 1: what is the incentive to eat a healthy, balanced diet
- 1:17Speaker 1: when you can just jab jab jab erase all the
- 1:20Speaker 1: downsides and Bob's your uncle, and the jab basically corrects
- 1:26Speaker 1: your cravings, and then companies will give you what your
- 1:29Speaker 1: body actually needed in the first place, which is lean meat,
- 1:32Speaker 1: a bit of fat, just a little bit, and some veggies.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Were's the incentive? For more from Early Edition with Ryan Bridge.
