- 0:08Blocking and avoidant X can do one of two very different
- 0:11things. It can make them either quietly
- 0:14detached or make them obsess and wonder if they lost you.
- 0:19It's not the same move, because blocking doesn't just remove
- 0:23access, it changes what an avoidant nervous system feels.
- 0:28And with avoidance, we know it's all about their nervous system.
- 0:32That's what's making the decision for them.
- 0:35So for some people, it's going to create pressure and for
- 0:38others, it creates relief. And those two reactions lead to
- 0:42two totally different outcomes. So by the end of this video,
- 0:46you'll know exactly when blocking is going to help, when
- 0:49it's going to backfire. And the one decision rule that
- 0:53makes this all very simple and very obvious.
- 0:56Now years ago I talked about blocking an X after 60 days and
- 1:01I will put the link to that video in the upper right hand
- 1:04corner on YouTube. And that was not to help you
- 1:07move on, but to force clarity. And the idea was if someone
- 1:11still cared, then losing passive access and the dopamine hit that
- 1:17they would get from watching your stories or page would push
- 1:20them to act and they'd either reach out or show that they
- 1:24weren't going to. So that logic still applies.
- 1:28That hasn't changed. Don't worry.
- 1:30What changes everything is of course, as usual, avoidant
- 1:34attachment. And if you're new here, hi, my
- 1:37name is Lucia. I'm a dating and relationship
- 1:39relationship expert specializing in helping you get your ex back
- 1:43or to get over your ex. And welcome back to my beautiful
- 1:47no contact army. I hope you've been staying in no
- 1:50contact. So let's get clear about
- 1:53blocking because people are using it in a way that sometimes
- 1:58works against them. When I talk about blocking an
- 2:01avoidant, I'm talking about or actually anybody.
- 2:05I'm talking about social media, not phone, not text, and not
- 2:11e-mail. Although I don't know how often
- 2:13can you block via e-mail. I guess it depends on the
- 2:15platform. So social media blocking removes
- 2:18story watching, low effort monitoring and passive
- 2:24regulation without vulnerability because they're using you to
- 2:28regulate themselves after the breakup and not feel the pain by
- 2:32watching your stories and your page.
- 2:34If there's any chance of re engagement.
- 2:37There has to be a clear path for someone to reach you.
- 2:40So that's why you don't block them on everything because
- 2:45blocking everything often resolves tension instead of
- 2:48creating it. Especially with avoidance now.
- 2:53Blocking. It was never about punishment
- 2:56and it was never about disappearing.
- 2:57It was a pressure tactic. And pressure can create movement
- 3:01for some attachment styles, but for others, pressure shuts them
- 3:06down. South, blocking can get someone
- 3:09to reach out if they have a secure attachment style, they
- 3:13have an anxious attachment style, or they're emotionally
- 3:17available but hesitant. So in those cases, blocking
- 3:22creates uncertainty and urgency and that's why my advice worked
- 3:27for so many people. And by the way, this is
- 3:31something I work through very carefully with my coaching
- 3:33clients because one wrong move could shut things down.
- 3:37So if you're interested in finding out about coaching with
- 3:39me, then contact me at my website
- 3:41theartoflove.net/coaching and we will send you the rates.
- 3:46And if you are in no contact right now, my Silencio app can
- 3:51also help you to stay regulated and avoid impulsive actions,
- 3:54especially when you're dealing with an avoidant.
- 3:57And that is available in the App Store and Google Play.
- 4:00And the link to that is underneath every single video
- 4:02and podcast. OK, so why does blocking
- 4:07backfire with avoidance? Because with avoidance, blocking
- 4:13usually creates relief. So it relieves pressure for them
- 4:18and it resolves ambivalence. So instead of thinking I should
- 4:21reach out their nervous system, their boss says I don't have to
- 4:26deal with this. So relief kills momentum.
- 4:30Now also in another video titled Blocking an avoidant causes
- 4:34these four things to happen. And of course, I'll put the link
- 4:36in the upper right hand corner on YouTube.
- 4:39I explained that avoidance can feel relieved at first and then
- 4:42curious later, and sometimes wonder if they lost you now.
- 4:46That's still true, don't worry. But those are stages, they're
- 4:50not guarantees. And curiosity only shows up
- 4:54after safety is restored, because if you block while
- 4:58they're still deactivated, then relief wins and curiosity never
- 5:03happens. So this is the rule I want you
- 5:06to memorize. Oh, and before I forget, I want
- 5:09to thank everyone who has hyped my video.
- 5:12I really appreciate that. And if you're wondering what the
- 5:14heck am I talking about, well, YouTube has this new feature
- 5:18where you can hype a video if you like it and you found it
- 5:21helpful and they're slowly rolling it out to everyone.
- 5:25So if you want to see if you have that feature, then just
- 5:28look just directly underneath this video and you will see a
- 5:32hype button. And if you are liking this video
- 5:35then just hit that button and hype me.
- 5:38And if you don't have that button yet, then you may either
- 5:40need to update the app or wait for it and you will also have it
- 5:45at some point. So again, thank you to everyone
- 5:47who has hyped me so far. OK, so the rule I want you to
- 5:51memorize is if blocking would calm you, then block.
- 5:57If blocking is meant to provoke them then don't.
- 6:00So you should block or mute or restrict if seeing their name
- 6:06spikes anxiety or rumination. You keep checking who viewed
- 6:11your stories, you're posting for them.
- 6:15You can't stay in no contact without spiraling.
- 6:18So in that case blocking is self regulation, not strategy.
- 6:22It helps you even if it closes a door.
- 6:26And that's a valid trade off because mental health is
- 6:29everything right now. Do not block.
- 6:32If you're emotionally steady, you're not obsessing or reviews,
- 6:37you're not posting for them. Your silence already creates
- 6:41space and contrast. So in this case, blocking
- 6:45usually relieves pressure for them, resolves ambivalence,
- 6:50reduces the chance of a reach out.
- 6:52So silence alone does more work than blocking ever will.
- 6:58So muting slash restricting is a good middle ground because you
- 7:02don't see them but they still see you.
- 7:04But hard blocking with avoidance is a strong signal and that's
- 7:10often felt as rejection by them. So if you don't need to block to
- 7:15stay regulated, then don't. And you don't need to cut off
- 7:21the dopamine to make an avoidance come back.
- 7:25Avoidance don't fail to reach out because they're too
- 7:28comfortable. They don't reach out because
- 7:31vulnerability still feels unsafe to them.
- 7:35So removing comfort is not going to create safety.
- 7:38Removing pressure does. Blocking is not the default move
- 7:44with avoidance as it is with secure or anxious.
- 7:49Blocking is not a reliable way to trigger them.
- 7:53Blocking is appropriate only for your nervous system.
- 7:58So if your goal is the best chance to get them back, then
- 8:02silence plus consistency beats blocking.
- 8:06And if your goal is peace, then block without guilt.
- 8:10OK hope I cleared all that up. So now I want to hear from you.
