- 0:23Hey guys, it's Lex, your host of Mom Gone Mild.
- 0:28And today I have the pleasure of having my bestest, bestest,
- 0:32bestest friend ever, Nina. Hello.
- 0:36Applause, applause, applause. Hi Nina, how are you today?
- 0:40Hi, I'm good. So Nina and me have been friends
- 0:44for about how long? I think it's over 20 years.
- 0:49Definitely over 20 years, yeah. So me and Nina.
- 0:54So I have always talked about Nina because she's the person
- 0:58that I knew and see me growing up.
- 1:00So she was my bestie, and we've remained best friends ever
- 1:03since. And so, yeah, there's actually a
- 1:08trend now, Nina going around. I'm sure you've heard of it.
- 1:11I know you guys have 2016. And oh, boy, yeah, that was 10
- 1:16years ago. Can you imagine?
- 1:18Which is so wild. Right.
- 1:19Yeah, I know. So 10 years ago I was 26.
- 1:24How old are you, 28? We were wild though, kinda so
- 1:30but a good wild. You know, we had our fun and now
- 1:34we're both grown ass women that are married and yay.
- 1:39Well technically we're not really newlyweds, but we have
- 1:42been, you know, we got married what, a couple years ago and
- 1:45then you guys did too. So she got married first, then
- 1:48me. Yeah, we just celebrated our two
- 1:50years in December. Oh yeah, you guys will be in.
- 1:53February. Yeah, right, right.
- 1:55So, yeah. So you want to talk about how we
- 1:59met or? Yeah, I don't remember exactly
- 2:07like what day or what month even, but I do remember.
- 2:13I want to say it was like, I feel like we were at the pier.
- 2:16Yeah, I think we were like in Santa Barbara I.
- 2:18Think Santa Barbara and like, I remember like my uncle from
- 2:22another country was out here to like meet you.
- 2:25Yeah, yeah, yeah. And your mom, yeah.
- 2:28But I remember it being like, like a gloomy day.
- 2:32Yeah. And I.
- 2:33Remember setting the mood, guys, She's setting the mood.
- 2:36Yes, it was a gloomy. So I wasn't so romantic.
- 2:40How it was going to have what was going to happen, yeah.
- 2:42That's true. I was kind of nervous meaning
- 2:44you because I was like, they were like, oh, there's someone
- 2:46there that's your age, which was Nick.
- 2:48But then they're like then he has an older sister and I was
- 2:51like, oh, that's cool. Like I mean, I didn't really
- 2:53want to meet a boy my age, but I was like obviously more excited
- 2:57to meet you. I was like, hopefully she likes.
- 2:59Me. You know what's funny too is
- 3:01like, I remember almost kind of being like, I don't know if I
- 3:06want to meet this girl, like. I don't, I feel like most people
- 3:09say that about me, but it was the end of loving.
- 3:12Me. I didn't know you, but it was
- 3:13because I was so used to at the time.
- 3:16Yeah, being the only like a granddaughter.
- 3:19Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because yeah, you know, if
- 3:22people don't know we're cousins by marriage.
- 3:24Yes. Oh, yeah, Sorry, I totally
- 3:26skipped that part. You guys are probably like, why
- 3:27are these two formally meeting? Like are the other guys?
- 3:32Yeah. Are they like eloping or what's
- 3:34going on here? No, no, no.
- 3:35Sorry guys like through. Yeah, little black story.
- 3:38Rollback, Rollback. Yeah.
- 3:42So I get, you know, like I was like, oh, I'm the only girl now,
- 3:45There's gonna be another girl. So I think part of me was, you
- 3:48know, I was 16. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:50So I was just kind of like, who is this girl that I was a
- 3:54little? 14 year old and I was like, I
- 3:56hope I make a friend today. Yeah, and.
- 3:58Then, like, we met and then I don't even really know how it
- 4:03happened. Maybe I just kept going over to
- 4:05the house. Yeah.
- 4:07And we just naturally, yeah, started our friendship and yeah.
- 4:11And I thought she was so cool because she had like a pool.
- 4:14I mean, I had a pool too, but it was like a fun pool.
- 4:17And then she had like a trampoline and it was just like
- 4:20super fun. And then I always, I was young,
- 4:23don't forget, I was super obsessed with her brothers, boy
- 4:27or not, boyfriends, friends, boys that are friends.
- 4:31Anyways, I was 14. I was silly.
- 4:33So yeah. But I love going over and I just
- 4:36remember like her mom was so awesome and we would call her at
- 4:40work to make sure we can eat snacks.
- 4:44We literally like, I think you'd call the secretary and be like,
- 4:47can I get? To That's funny because my
- 4:49brother and I were just talking about this and we were like, Oh
- 4:51my God, we're so sorry, mom, every time we called you at
- 4:56work, you know, we were bothering you because it's not
- 4:58like it went straight to her. It went to.
- 4:59Yeah, I went to like a secretary.
- 5:01Yeah, Yeah, yeah. We would do that.
- 5:02We would call about like, hey, what do we got that we can make,
- 5:06Yeah. And I for some reason, I just
- 5:08thought of this like these little chicken sandwiches that
- 5:10you would have and we would freaking tear those up too.
- 5:14Yeah, they're Costco. I don't know why else.
- 5:16And I remember that but. Oh my God.
- 5:19So pretty much that's how we met.
- 5:21And then, like, she was older than me.
- 5:23So, you know, we went to the same high school.
- 5:26She was there for I think like a year and then graduated, right?
- 5:30Yeah, you were a freshman when I was a senior.
- 5:32Senior. So you started with Nick?
- 5:34Yeah, exactly. Sorry, I don't know if we're
- 5:35name dropping or not, but yeah. Famous Nick.
- 5:39No, I'm just kidding. So yeah, it's your brother.
- 5:44I know, I know. He was pretty popular back then.
- 5:47It was actually really good for me, to be honest, because I
- 5:49didn't know no one. So I kind of like latched onto
- 5:51him and I was like, can I be your friend?
- 5:55And thank goodness. Thanks, Nick, if you're
- 5:57listening, you were such an awesome.
- 5:59Friend, how to make your redemption?
- 6:03Oh my gosh, that's right. So someone I I was like, hey, so
- 6:09like, what's the cool thing to do and see me?
- 6:10And she's like, hey, you know, I'm like in color guard and I'm
- 6:13like, oh, OK, cool. Never heard of it.
- 6:15Literally this was the first time because at private school
- 6:17we don't have that stuff. So I joined and then like that
- 6:21year she like I bounced. Yeah.
- 6:23She's like, oh, I don't like it. I'm leaving and I'm.
- 6:27Like, but I still showed up to support you.
- 6:29Yeah, yeah, yeah. But let's not talk about the cow
- 6:31pants, OK? OK.
- 6:34They made us wear cow pants. Yeah.
- 6:36How do you think that we were? Girl, it's hard to like think of
- 6:43everything though cuz I literally was going through my
- 6:45phone trying to find pictures just to see like where was I at
- 6:50in my life at that point? Yeah, and I don't have very many
- 6:54pictures, so I'm guessing I was still in my, you know, taking
- 6:59pictures with a camera era. Yeah, and I really feel like a
- 7:02lot of our photos are like on Photobucket and like Myspace
- 7:06and. They're there.
- 7:07They're like hidden from there's.
- 7:09Somewhere. It's somewhere in the web I
- 7:12guess. Yes, but from what I saw and
- 7:15what I can remember, it was like a lot of Vegas tricks.
- 7:21Yeah, we were. Well, definitely.
- 7:23You were really into Vegas. I would go along and it was just
- 7:28like super fun. I feel like we had so much fun.
- 7:30We used to go to like clubs and day clubs was kind of like not
- 7:34like a new thing, but really popular back then.
- 7:36I just remember, Oh my gosh, standing in line getting like,
- 7:40what are they called the promoters number 0.
- 7:43Gosh, and every time you got a promoters number, you were so
- 7:46cool. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:48And then? Like, but then he had like 100
- 7:50other girls. So it's kind of that was kind of
- 7:55crazy. But like I was just talking to
- 7:58my other friend and we were talking about like going to
- 8:00Vegas and I was like, Oh my gosh.
- 8:01Like, the only thoughts I have about Vegas is, like, day
- 8:04parties, clubs. And she's like, girl, there's
- 8:07like shows and like, restaurants.
- 8:10And I'm like, Oh yeah. But at the time, that's, you
- 8:13know what we did. I mean, if I were to go back
- 8:15now, it'd be like, I'm going for the shows.
- 8:18I'm going to go eat at the best restaurant.
- 8:20But at that time, we were like, no, we gotta get on the Dre's
- 8:24list. No, we gotta go.
- 8:25Oh my eyes, she's name dropping. Oh.
- 8:27Sorry, we gotta go this place. Gotta go to that place.
- 8:31Yeah. You know, it was all about what
- 8:33was in the moment, and that's where we were going.
- 8:39Oh my gosh. I feel like we have so many
- 8:42memories and I literally sometimes I feel like I mix all
- 8:46the memories together. Yeah, like I remember like we
- 8:48were just talking about, it was like I think around 2016, maybe
- 8:52a little earlier. But when we went to that one day
- 8:55club, by the way, we have like our own language.
- 9:02So I'm sorry. We would just look at each other
- 9:03and start laughing because I feel like we both know each
- 9:06other so well. But you know what trip I'm
- 9:09talking about with with Jess. Yeah.
- 9:12Yeah. OK, So that trick was crazy.
- 9:18And when I mean crazy, I mean like, probably I should have
- 9:21been like, admitted stop. No, no, actually, yeah, yes.
- 9:27That night was like, yes, so I do you remember it?
- 9:31Was it like surrender? I want to say it was somewhere
- 9:35down there. Yeah, it was like somewhere down
- 9:37there, it was like we went out, all three of us.
- 9:40And of course we're it's Vegas. We're drunk.
- 9:43And back then I had no chill. Like I did not know when to
- 9:47stop. I just kept going and going and
- 9:49going and going until like it was too late, you know?
- 9:54So you want to tell that story? Well, I'll tell like.
- 9:59From yeah, I want to know like your point of view and then I'll
- 10:01tell you my point. Of view.
- 10:03So we did. We went to that club and we got
- 10:06in because your friends weren't there.
- 10:09So we got bottle service. We were having a good time.
- 10:13And then I think you had mentioned you were going to the
- 10:16bathroom and I wasn't, you know, maybe I should have gone with
- 10:20you, but I wasn't too worried about it since it was literally
- 10:24like right there. And at one point I was like,
- 10:29wait, I'm like, where is she? I feel like she's been missing,
- 10:32like, gone too long. And I mentioned something to
- 10:35just. And she was like, I don't know.
- 10:40And then somehow we found out that you had gotten kicked out.
- 10:44So I think that may have been one of the last text messages.
- 10:48Yeah. Yeah.
- 10:49So first thing we did just. And I, we left, if I remember it
- 10:55correctly, I think we had gone to the hotel first to look for
- 11:00you. And then we're like, well, we
- 11:02might as well change if we have to go find her.
- 11:05So we changed real quick. And then that's when we started
- 11:08walking the strip. And then I don't know how all of
- 11:13a sudden you were like right there and like you had a couple
- 11:16helping you, like you had the lady on one side, the guy on the
- 11:19other. And I was wearing.
- 11:20His you were wearing his flip flops and you and Oh my gosh,
- 11:25I'm dying. Like we're like, what the heck
- 11:28happened? I remember like we were kind of
- 11:31mad. No, no, like they were like so
- 11:34upset. I mean, obviously I had ruined
- 11:36the night first of all, because what?
- 11:37This is what happened. So I fell asleep and then like,
- 11:42I went to the bathroom and when I was going to the bathroom,
- 11:45they were like, hey, you have to leave.
- 11:49And I was like, hey, I don't have shoes.
- 11:51They're like at the table and they're like, no, you have to
- 11:54leave. And for some reason I, well, I
- 11:57didn't have any other choice. I forgot where we were staying.
- 12:00I, you know, like the strip literally only goes two ways.
- 12:03And I went obviously the wrong way because I ended up at the
- 12:05stretch this year. I met this couple.
- 12:10Honestly, I feel like there were swingers, but that has nothing
- 12:13to do with this. But it was very weird situation.
- 12:16So they were like, oh, we'll walk you back.
- 12:18And like, I remember it was so weird.
- 12:20I had no shoes. So the guy was like, well, I'm
- 12:23wearing sandals and socks so you can borrow my sandals.
- 12:27And I was like. What?
- 12:28The OK, whatever. So I used his sandals and then
- 12:32we, I think we actually went made it back to the room.
- 12:35That's how we found you guys. I don't remember, like how we
- 12:38found each other. I think it was actually at the
- 12:39strip. Yeah.
- 12:40Like we were walking. We were like walking past these,
- 12:42right? Yeah, we.
- 12:43Were walking down because we were like, well, let's just go
- 12:45this way. Yeah, this is the shortest way
- 12:47to go first before we adventure off to the other way.
- 12:51And that's what happened. You guys were walking this way.
- 12:53We were walking that way. And.
- 12:55And yeah. And I remember too, like at
- 12:57first, I first saw the guy and I was like, what are you doing?
- 13:01Yeah, yeah. I was like, no, no, no, they're
- 13:04helping. I understood the story about it,
- 13:06all right, all right. Honestly, thank you to that
- 13:08couple because that was so dangerous.
- 13:10Like now I think I was like, you know, back then we used to dress
- 13:13like literally wearing nothing and then I had no shoes.
- 13:17I mean, it was a mess. It could have been way worse so.
- 13:20Thank you to that couple. Thank God.
- 13:22Like, yeah, yeah, but got you. And yeah, you would think that
- 13:27this is where the story ends and I just fall asleep.
- 13:30No, it gets really bad. So I guess I was super upset.
- 13:34I feel like I still wanted to go out.
- 13:36That was a problem. I.
- 13:37Didn't that's again, I don't remember.
- 13:39I don't remember what triggered you, what triggered me, but all
- 13:43of a sudden I was like jumping on the bed and I was like, yes,
- 13:45no, this is. Like we're red.
- 13:48Like I thought you were possessed.
- 13:51I will never ever get that image out of my head.
- 13:55Like, I traumatize you guys. Yeah.
- 13:57And Jess, like she she fights back with me, but she was like,
- 14:01not at my level because my level was extreme, but she was yelling
- 14:05at me. And I just remember like, OK,
- 14:07I'm just going to go to sleep. And then the next day we went to
- 14:10like. I'm going home.
- 14:11I'm going home right now. I'm going to call my dad and I'm
- 14:15going home. And I was like, Oh my God, I
- 14:17like stop. Anyways, it was Vegas.
- 14:23Then I think the next day we went to like a pool party.
- 14:27Yeah, like, like, like, like we woke up and like refresh, reset.
- 14:32I'm back to normal. Yeah, anyways, so that we
- 14:35finished the weekend off. Good.
- 14:36It was a really fun weekend overall.
- 14:39But yeah, I definitely had a little session moment.
- 14:43Yeah. So that was kind of crazy, but I
- 14:45feel like, honestly, back then we were both pretty wild.
- 14:49So like, I mean, it was kind of like the norm for me to be like,
- 14:54I don't know, I guess like angry.
- 14:56Not to be like you, like that night was something.
- 15:02I wish we had it on video like my head spinning.
- 15:07But you know, you were never like that.
- 15:09That crazy? Yeah, like, I mean like
- 15:12possessed. Yeah.
- 15:13Yeah. So let's see, taking back to
- 15:182016, I know that we used to go to like a club all the time,
- 15:25Couture. Not all the time girl, like 2-3
- 15:30times. Felt like more but yeah, so I
- 15:36don't know. I don't know time stamps or
- 15:37anything I. Know, I know.
- 15:39I'm not like a person to like remember.
- 15:41Like, Oh my gosh, I feel like there's so many people that I
- 15:44know that are like, do you remember back in 2005 when you
- 15:49needed? I'm like girl, I don't even
- 15:50remember from yesterday what happened.
- 15:52It was a Tuesday, September 14. Yeah, three.
- 15:56Yeah, Exactly. Exactly.
- 15:59So what do you think has changed the most?
- 16:02Obviously a lot has changed the most since then, but like, what
- 16:05do you think has definitely changed the most?
- 16:07I mean, we've seen each other through 20 years basically.
- 16:11So a lot has changed. I mean, we grew up together, you
- 16:15know. So what do you think has
- 16:18changed? I mean, like you said, we've
- 16:20known each other for so long. I feel like we've seen each
- 16:24other go through our stages, you know, and I would have to say, I
- 16:30mean, just the maturity level, you know?
- 16:33Yeah. Has gone way up.
- 16:35Yeah. You know, I don't know, just.
- 16:43Like I OK, yeah, I get what you mean.
- 16:45Like definitely we have matured. Obviously, you know, we had to
- 16:48grow up just like being married and all that stuff.
- 16:52We had to go through things for us to be where we are.
- 16:57Yeah. I mean, the things that we
- 16:59honestly have gone through, it's like, I don't even want to talk
- 17:02on here about it because it's like crazy, right?
- 17:04No, just like crazy nights that we've had, just like how we
- 17:08ended up. But yeah, I'm just glad that
- 17:10we're at this like, moment together where we have both
- 17:14grown and like, both like. Yeah.
- 17:16Because, I mean, there was a time where we didn't talk for a
- 17:19little. Yeah, that's true.
- 17:21No, that's true. Yeah.
- 17:22And then we reconnected and I feel like since we reconnected,
- 17:29that's when it was like, you're never getting rid.
- 17:31Of me exactly. Yeah, I'm always gonna be here.
- 17:34Yeah. You know, And I feel like that
- 17:36was another major thing that we had to go through to be like
- 17:40where we are today. Definitely, yeah.
- 17:42Because there are some friendships that, you know, you
- 17:44go through like, a lot and it's just like, you don't get back to
- 17:48where you were. But our friendship, I feel like
- 17:50we went through what we did and actually it brought us close.
- 17:53Yes. Now we talk every day and it's
- 17:56just like, I can't imagine. Like I like text her husband.
- 18:00Like is she OK if it's like 2:00 and she hasn't texted me?
- 18:04And then he's like, she's not feeling well.
- 18:07She's sleeping. And I was like, oh, OK, sorry to
- 18:09bother you, but it's just so funny.
- 18:11Like I don't know. I'm just like, I even tell Randy
- 18:14I'm like, Oh my God, I don't think she's OK.
- 18:16And he's like, it's literally like 2:00.
- 18:19You just haven't heard from her. She's probably working or
- 18:22something. I'm like, no, something's wrong.
- 18:24I can tell. Oh boy, like I can tell him like
- 18:29uh oh something up because I didn't have like 10 memes sent
- 18:32to me. Oh yeah, if you're my friend and
- 18:37I don't want to hear, this is what I can't stand because you
- 18:39do this to me too. My other friend doesn't.
- 18:41You sent this to me on blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 18:45I don't care if I sent it to you.
- 18:46Laugh again. It's hilarious.
- 18:49It will always be hilarious. But yes, I do send about
- 18:52probably if you're my best friend, like 20 a day.
- 18:56If you're my friend, I'll send you like 5.
- 18:59If you're like even acquaintance, I'll send you like
- 19:02one. Wow, just so you know, I'm
- 19:05around. Just gets one.
- 19:07Hey, at least I'm thinking about you, yeah.
- 19:10No, for real. So yeah, I have a question.
- 19:14Like obviously like it sounds like I was like the craziest,
- 19:18but I feel like so were you. So who do you think was more
- 19:21like unhinged? One hint.
- 19:25Yeah, I would say you. Really.
- 19:29Because that's funny. I would say you, I'm good.
- 19:35Whatever. Anyway.
- 19:37I think it just goes back to that night of you being
- 19:40possessed. OK, that was one night.
- 19:44I know, I know, I know, I know. Honestly, we have both done our
- 19:48fair share of craziness for sure.
- 19:50Yeah, it's her anyway. OK All right.
- 19:55So we kind of talked about, like the past.
- 19:56I kind of want to bring it to, like, the future.
- 19:58OK. I don't know, like, how is it
- 20:04like being married and like being in this stage of life now?
- 20:08It's crazy. Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 20:12There is a point where I did not want to be married.
- 20:18I wanted like that to be that big successful head person in
- 20:25charge, which you still can be. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:28But like, my main thing was like that.
- 20:31And then I got into my 30s. And then there's nothing wrong
- 20:40with waiting, you know, later on in life.
- 20:44Because I always say this, I feel like in every episode.
- 20:46But honestly, please live your life and then get married.
- 20:50Yes, because I don't have regrets.
- 20:52Definitely live my life like I did.
- 20:56I wild out, you know, for sure. But yeah, I think once I turned
- 21:0130, that was like a big birthday for me.
- 21:05And that's when I realized, you know what, I do want to share my
- 21:12life with someone. You know, I do want a partner to
- 21:16do life with and yeah, it only took me moving across country to
- 21:24meet that person. That's true.
- 21:26I know. I remember I was so sad.
- 21:27I was like crying at the airport.
- 21:29I like called out sick that day when I dropped you off, like
- 21:33you're like when it happened. Yeah, when you move, like when I
- 21:36dropped you off at the airport cuz she used to live with us.
- 21:38But it was so funny. I was like, hey, like 5 minutes
- 21:42before going in I was like, I can't make it.
- 21:44And they're like, what? And I was like, yeah, just too
- 21:46much is going on right now and I need a mental health day.
- 21:49And I like, cried all day and watch movies.
- 21:52And poor Randy. He's like, what the heck is
- 21:54going on here? Trust me, it was hard.
- 21:57It was like a really, really hard decision to make.
- 22:00Yeah. But there were just things that
- 22:02were happening and I was like, you know what, I'm like, I need
- 22:06to go. Yeah.
- 22:08But yeah, I know. I mean, that's where I met,
- 22:10obviously met Kevin. And he has like, pretty much the
- 22:13same back story. Where his mom and stepdad moved
- 22:16to Florida. You know, my parents moved to
- 22:18Florida and that's why I even went there.
- 22:21And so I had moved there in March of 2021 and he moved there
- 22:29in June of 2021. Our parents lived 2 minutes down
- 22:35the street. Yeah.
- 22:35That was wild. When she told me I was like,
- 22:38what the? So it was just really crazy and
- 22:42really fast and it was like, whoa, is this like really
- 22:46happening right now? You know, it was like, for so
- 22:49long I didn't want it. And then I felt like for a
- 22:52little while there, I was like, OK, yeah, I'm ready.
- 22:54Like I'm ready to find my person.
- 22:57And then I move and it's like bam, bam, bam.
- 23:00Yeah. You know, we meet each other,
- 23:03then we get engaged. Oh, I moved in like I think 5
- 23:06months after and then we got engaged and then the following
- 23:11year we got married. Yeah, it was just like it was
- 23:13very, very fast. Yeah.
- 23:15So like talking about going fast, I mean, I wouldn't know
- 23:20because Randy took forever to propose, but like, so do you
- 23:25have like any advice for people that are kind of going through
- 23:28that now? Because I have a lot of friends
- 23:29that obviously like they haven't been married and stuff.
- 23:32So do you have any like advice of like waiting so long?
- 23:35I mean not long, but you know what I mean.
- 23:36Waiting like. So just get engaged or like
- 23:40waiting to like find that person.
- 23:42Oh, yeah, no. I mean, it's crazy because
- 23:45everyone's like, oh, it's gonna happen when you least expect it.
- 23:49You know? I heard that a lot.
- 23:51Yeah, I heard that a lot. And.
- 23:54And it did. And like, I was on the dating
- 23:57apps. Nothing ever worked out.
- 24:00I was always so afraid. Yeah.
- 24:03To like, go and actually meet. Someone.
- 24:06Yeah, Yeah. And then that's honestly How I
- 24:12Met my husband. I decided to take a chance.
- 24:16Yeah. So yeah, I mean.
- 24:20So what was your first impression when you saw his
- 24:22photo? Really.
- 24:24That's. You know what?
- 24:26The very first time I saw him, I scrolled the other way.
- 24:33I don't remember if it was right or left.
- 24:35It was him. I I don't.
- 24:36I don't remember. Like honestly, I'm like, do you?
- 24:38I don't remember at all. And he knows this.
- 24:41Yeah. And like, how he came surprise
- 24:45Kevin, and then somehow, like, he popped up again on my thing.
- 24:51And I I don't know. I don't ever judge a book by its
- 24:57cover because I thought he was something.
- 25:01He looked like a douche. Yeah.
- 25:03When I first saw one of his pictures and I was like, eh, But
- 25:09then I was like, fine, whatever, I'll message him back.
- 25:14And then as we started talking more than, that's when I was
- 25:19like, OK. And then it was just so weird
- 25:22how we started, like so many things in common, and then
- 25:26finding out that's how we found out that our parents played
- 25:31pickleball. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:32I mean, when she told me I was like, wow, this is like all
- 25:35lining up like a move. Yeah, but then.
- 25:38Again, I feel like honestly, where you live, it's a small
- 25:42town, so it's a little. Yeah, it's super small.
- 25:44It's not as wild, but still like the coincidences were kind of
- 25:48crazy. It's yeah, like he moved.
- 25:50Around the same time, you guys moved there around the same
- 25:52time. And so my dad had even told my
- 25:55mom when he met Kevin, not knowing who Kevin was.
- 26:00Yeah, like this kid, he's single.
- 26:03He seems really nice. I think, you know, he'd be a
- 26:06good fit for Christina and Daddy.
- 26:10So I'm just kidding because there's so many like, you know,
- 26:17familiar, like, you know, like coincidences, all that, whatever
- 26:20you want to call it. I was just like, OK, like, let
- 26:22me go ahead and meet the kid, you know, and.
- 26:26So it was the. Best first date I've ever been
- 26:31on. What did you guys do?
- 26:32We went. We went to dinner with you.
- 26:42Oh boy. No, we went to dinner.
- 26:44It's this place called Squid Lips which.
- 26:47By the way, if you know her and you go visit her, they talk
- 26:50about squid lips probably like. Not anymore.
- 26:53Not. Anymore, but they used to.
- 26:55I remember you guys were like talking about buckets of.
- 26:58Drinks. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:00We would get the like they had like these buckets of like
- 27:03different mixed drinks and we would share them.
- 27:06Yeah, yeah. You know, it wasn't like 1 to,
- 27:08you know, for each of us. It was just for us to share to
- 27:11try it out. But yeah, he so anyway.
- 27:13You they have never taken me, but each time they used to talk
- 27:16about it, I'm like, all right, sounds fun.
- 27:18And they're like, let's go to captain.
- 27:21What it was. I'm like, Oh my gosh, I've been
- 27:23here like 1000 times. I love that.
- 27:25Place, Yeah. I know, but every time I heard
- 27:27about the squid lips I was like. OK, we'll take you to square
- 27:29lips one time. I personally, it's not my yeah,
- 27:33it's not my first choice, but he really liked it at the time.
- 27:37So he, yeah, that's where he took me on our first date.
- 27:40And then I remember he was like wearing cowboy boots with his
- 27:45jeans and everything. I got muscle luck.
- 27:51That's a very different taste, and that's perfectly fine.
- 27:54I like Kevin, he's a great addition.
- 27:57And I just remember he was like, I don't know, he was so sweet.
- 28:00He was such a gentleman and we just, I was like so nervous
- 28:05because I'm like, Oh my God, what if I run out of things to
- 28:08talk to him about? Yeah.
- 28:10And, and our conversation just flowed.
- 28:14And then after that he was like, oh, did you want to go anywhere
- 28:18else? And I had mentioned Captain had
- 28:21the. Sandbar.
- 28:22Oh my God, I love that. And so then shout out to that
- 28:26place we went. Yeah, shout out we went.
- 28:29We got a drink and we were just having such a fun time laughing
- 28:33and right then and there I knew I was like, I think this is
- 28:38gonna be it. Like I love that.
- 28:40He's gonna be like, I just had this feeling.
- 28:42Yeah, that's awesome. Yeah, so I met him what, at
- 28:463435, so you know. The timing is right every time.
- 28:54Exactly. Yeah, Yeah, that's awesome.
- 28:56So basically if you're like around that age or you're even
- 29:00older and you're like, still like, where is my guy?
- 29:03Like, I know I feel like I say this all the time, but it's
- 29:06like, when the timing is right, you'll find that person.
- 29:09Yeah. It's so true.
- 29:11I believe that there is someone out there for everyone.
- 29:16Yeah. You know, like you're a person.
- 29:18It is out there. Yeah, definitely.
- 29:21Yeah. So I.
- 29:21Agree, but I get it. I mean, you know, there's times
- 29:24where you're like, I'm never gonna meet the person, like I'm
- 29:26already this age, blah blah blah.
- 29:28But no, it will happen. Yeah, no, for sure.
- 29:31I love that. Yeah, I love happy endings.
- 29:35Well, it's not an ending, but I mean, you know, I was like,
- 29:38goodbye. No, I'm just kidding.
- 29:40So what would you, I think about this all the time.
- 29:44I think I told you, but I'm like, what advice would you give
- 29:47yourself now to the person you were back like in 2016, ten
- 29:53years ago? Don't worry.
- 29:55Yeah, everything's gonna be OK. OK, Bob Marley.
- 30:00Don't worry. Just kidding.
- 30:05Yeah. No, honestly, like everything's
- 30:10gonna work out because it's supposed to, you know, just have
- 30:14faith it's it's going to be OK. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:19So my advice would be like, don't get a tongue piercing.
- 30:25That was awful. I don't know what I was
- 30:27thinking. My gosh, that was the most
- 30:29painful thing ever. And obviously I was telling.
- 30:32Yes, it was. I cried.
- 30:33I remember, like, I was like eating like a Slim Jim.
- 30:36That's all I want afterwards. I mean, no, the piercing itself
- 30:40was not, the after was. It was after.
- 30:44It was a month. Yeah.
- 30:46Gosh, I remember my mom. Oh my.
- 30:49Gosh, my dad's like RIP it out or I will, and I'm like my mom.
- 30:52Wants to go grab my tongue. Yeah.
- 30:55Like thinking it was fake. No, it's not.
- 30:57That's not real. I'm like I.
- 30:59Can just imagine your mom doing that.
- 31:03But yeah, so definitely just like another advice I would give
- 31:08obviously the tongue thing, but just like just be honestly easy
- 31:14on yourself. There's so much time to like,
- 31:17grow and like. Exactly.
- 31:18You know, just so much that you have to experience in life and
- 31:22it's OK if you don't get it all right away.
- 31:24I mean, right now I'm 36 and I'm still learning.
- 31:28You know, it's like every age you have like something to learn
- 31:32about and it's just like, just be easy on yourself.
- 31:34Don't be hard. It's like honestly, like you
- 31:37said, everything will work out and don't worry.
- 31:40Don't worry. Like it.
- 31:42It may be the worst time in your life.
- 31:44Yeah, yeah. But just don't worry.
- 31:47It's going to work out. Yeah.
- 31:49Yeah. Definitely.
- 31:50So what do you think is like the hardest part about marriage that
- 31:54no one really told you that kind of like surprised you?
- 32:01I don't know, because I'm, I mean, for me, I think the
- 32:03hardest part was or is like figuring out what you're going
- 32:08to make for dinner every night to be.
- 32:11Honest, literally, that. It drives me nuts every night
- 32:13right here. What's for dinner?
- 32:15Every night, What's for dinner and the thing?
- 32:16Is too is like I enjoy cooking. Don't get me wrong, I like to
- 32:20cook. I love baking too, but it's
- 32:24like, OK, what are we going to have tonight?
- 32:26Are we going to do this? Are we going to do that?
- 32:28And then so you get home from work and then you got to like,
- 32:31you know, get everything ready. And it's like, I don't know, for
- 32:37me that's like an issue because I guess it's, it's like for me,
- 32:43if I were to go home and like if I was not married, I would just
- 32:47make myself something super. Quick.
- 32:48Yeah, definitely. But I agree, you know, it's like
- 32:51you want to be able to cook a meal, you know, and yeah, have a
- 32:55nice little sit down dinner and. Yeah, so.
- 32:59So that's the hardest part. That's the hardest part.
- 33:01And you know what? No one told me about it so.
- 33:03Yeah, I mean, honestly, if you're single right now and
- 33:06you're going to get married, you might as well start writing
- 33:08recipes in a book. Go take those cooking classes,
- 33:11yeah? For sure.
- 33:12No, I love cooking now. It's crazy.
- 33:14Like I'll always do like my little, like my favorite.
- 33:17Yeah. I feel like I'm getting better
- 33:19because when I first started, the dishes were horrible.
- 33:23But you know, I had such a sweet husband that he would lie to me,
- 33:26but then I would taste him like this.
- 33:29Is gross. But he's.
- 33:32Just being supportive. And he's a very supportive
- 33:35husband. I know.
- 33:36What's the best part about being married?
- 33:40The best part is having that person that you can go home to,
- 33:48you know, I mean, obviously, like I have my best friend.
- 33:51I have my parents. You know, I have my brother and
- 33:53stuff, but this is just on another level.
- 33:56Yeah. So it's someone I can go to.
- 34:00And like, honestly, just, I could be an idiot.
- 34:05I can, yeah, just be here. Yeah.
- 34:08I can just be myself around, you know?
- 34:14And yeah, I just, yeah, that's what I enjoy.
- 34:18OK, so I think personally the best part, it's a huge thing.
- 34:23Like I have like a built in best friend that like we like
- 34:27obviously we hang out every weekend.
- 34:29So I have something like something to do every weekend
- 34:32with him and that's fun. But I also feel like I guess
- 34:36this kind of falls into it. But someone that I know I'm
- 34:40always safe with like yes, let's say like we're at a party, we
- 34:44don't want to go out. We just like look at each other
- 34:46and we're like, we know like we're so comfortable with each
- 34:50other now that it's like literally like he's like just my
- 34:53other half. And I know it's so cliche to say
- 34:56exactly like that's just like my safety, like my safety.
- 34:59Like I have my family. Of course I love them, but like
- 35:02this now is my family, you know what I mean?
- 35:04Like this is my core and it's like I have everyone else I love
- 35:08so much, but just it's nice to just have that one person that
- 35:11you can rely on that even if you're having the worst day.
- 35:14Like I mean, obviously sometimes they get Moody, but you know, no
- 35:19one's perfect. I get Moody too.
- 35:21But like at the end of the day, that person is just going to
- 35:24have your back. And that's like a huge.
- 35:25Thing and then you're like each other's, like cheerleaders,
- 35:28yeah, you know. Exactly.
- 35:30Yeah. And then like when one is kind
- 35:31of down, the can lift them up. So that's pretty good.
- 35:35I love that. Yeah, I would say that is the
- 35:37one good thing. You know, if I'm having my off
- 35:42days, especially like with my anxiety, yeah, it's like, I
- 35:46already know I can tell Kevin like look, I'm not feeling good,
- 35:50this blah, blah, blah. And he's like, OK, what do you
- 35:53need? Do you want me to go grab you
- 35:54something to eat or do you want this or, you know, it's like he
- 35:59makes sure that I can feel safe and grounded again.
- 36:07So yeah, that's. That's a huge thing.
- 36:09And you know, I'm like super about like mental health,
- 36:12putting your, you know, every that should be like priority.
- 36:15I feel like, to be honest. So I'm glad that you kind of
- 36:17brought up anxiety because like when I'm feeling anxious, like I
- 36:20feel like I can just like talk to him or I don't have to talk
- 36:23to him. And that's the best part because
- 36:25he knows to feel my vibe. And yeah, I mean, yeah.
- 36:29He like looks at me and he's like, let me see your eyes.
- 36:32And I look at him and he's like, what's wrong?
- 36:34I'm like, how do you know it will stop?
- 36:37And that's just like the other level, I guess, that now like
- 36:39we've achieved because, you know, we have each other, we
- 36:42have our family, but it's just so awesome to have a partner in
- 36:45life. Yeah.
- 36:46So that's really exciting. And that.
- 36:48All right, so now that we have done the marriage part, of
- 36:53course, now is the next part. You know, I have.
- 36:56I talked to you guys about my struggles with, you know,
- 37:00getting pregnant and staying pregnant.
- 37:03I talked about my loss. And you can actually listen to
- 37:06that in episode. I think it was like 4.
- 37:10But you know Nina now, you know she's going through her own
- 37:14thing. I don't know, Nina.
- 37:16You want to talk about it a little.
- 37:17Whatever you feel comfortable. With yeah, yeah, sure.
- 37:20So my husband and I, we've been trying.
- 37:24It'll be two years in April, OK. And you know, it's, it's been a
- 37:30struggle. It's been very emotional because
- 37:34there have been months where it's like, oh, maybe I am and
- 37:39then it's not, obviously. So yeah, I've gone had tests
- 37:46done. So before, you know, we're
- 37:50looking into possibly doing some type of IVF treatment.
- 37:57But before we dive into that, we told ourselves that we'd give
- 38:00each other a few more months, probably hit that two year mark
- 38:04first, Definitely just to try naturally.
- 38:07I've done a lot of research. I've read a lot of threads on
- 38:12Reddit about it, too, you know, And a lot of women go through
- 38:18this and, you know, it's like right when they're about to
- 38:22start doing IVF. Yeah, yeah.
- 38:24It's like they get pregnant. Yeah.
- 38:28So, yeah. And then this is another thing
- 38:31where everyone's like, oh, it'll happen when you stop thinking
- 38:35about trying or trying. Yeah.
- 38:38So there's been one months where I'm like, OK, don't think about
- 38:41it. We're not trying.
- 38:42Yeah. But it's honestly that is like
- 38:44so much easier said than done. It is, you know what I mean?
- 38:47I mean, like just kind of bringing it back to like,
- 38:49obviously now that we're married, you're like, it happens
- 38:52when it happens. It's meant to be.
- 38:54But we struggled getting into this part.
- 38:57So the next part of our chapter, yeah.
- 39:00I mean, it's a lot of people, I'm gonna be honest, go through
- 39:04it. And it's like something I feel
- 39:06like is so like not talked about.
- 39:08I don't know why it's like, I feel like like if you're
- 39:11struggling or you know, like you should talk about it because it
- 39:15could help other people. Maybe it actually relieves some
- 39:18stress on you because I feel like sometimes when I bottle
- 39:20stuff in, it kind of gives me anxiety.
- 39:23I kind of like start getting panicky, but like even like, you
- 39:26know, when I told my story, I had someone reach out to me and
- 39:30literally it was like the same story, you know, but like, and
- 39:34then I had another girl reach out to me.
- 39:36She had like her, I think she had like a tube taken out.
- 39:40She had her over here move. So they've been struggling for a
- 39:43long time too. And I just feel like we need to
- 39:45normalize, you know, that it doesn't always happen for
- 39:48everyone. And it's so crazy because when
- 39:51we're young, like that's our biggest thing is like, don't get
- 39:54pregnant, don't get pregnant, don't get pregnant.
- 39:56And then it's like, I feel like, you know, obviously some are
- 39:58very blessed. So like it just happened.
- 40:01But like the majority of people, it just it's not that easy.
- 40:05You know, Yeah, No, Yeah. No, it's not.
- 40:08And, and I, I guess I was delulu because I thought, you know, I
- 40:14feel like we're going to, you know, try right away and I'm
- 40:17going to get pregnant right away.
- 40:18And my whole thing was like, I don't want to, you know, it
- 40:22sounds really bad, but I didn't want to until we had gone on our
- 40:26honeymoon, you know, So then a part of me is like, well, man,
- 40:31maybe we should have started trying sooner or who knows,
- 40:34maybe we would, you know, still be in the same place that we are
- 40:38now. So, yeah, I just, it's, it's a
- 40:41lot of, I guess I have to be patient.
- 40:46I have to have faith. Yeah, 'cause you know, I'm just
- 40:49trying to put it out there, be positive, like it will happen.
- 40:52Yeah, I'm willing. One way or the other.
- 40:55Yeah, yeah. One way or the other, it'll
- 40:56happen. But yeah, it's just like this
- 41:00like roller coaster of emotions, yeah, that you go through.
- 41:05Of. Course, Yeah.
- 41:06And it's funny because it's like when, when I was young, one of
- 41:12my friend's moms, like would always tell us like, if you guys
- 41:18do it. You're gonna get pregnant,
- 41:20right? I know that's when I'm pregnant.
- 41:22Like, why then? Right away?
- 41:23So worried. So yeah, sorry.
- 41:26Yeah, like. Terrified, but it's just so
- 41:28crazy. Like I mean, honestly, I hear
- 41:31your story, you hear everyone's story and it's just like, I hate
- 41:34to say it because it's just like so cliche, but like it.
- 41:38I feel like honestly, when everything does align, you know
- 41:41it happens and even if it doesn't happen, you know, you go
- 41:44to get help and you know, one way or the other.
- 41:48I mean, I don't know if you're comfortable, but have you guys
- 41:50talked about like adoption or do you guys want to do the IVF and
- 41:53then? Do adoption, Yeah, we want to
- 41:55try the IVF process first. I mean, I know there's like
- 41:59other things we can do, but yeah, we would rather go that
- 42:05route first and then if not, we'll probably, you know, go on
- 42:09to that Next up. So we haven't really talked
- 42:13about that just because we haven't even taken that next
- 42:16step. Yeah.
- 42:16No, no, of course. Yeah.
- 42:18So but you, you know, like, that's good that you guys are
- 42:21going to still try to do naturally, but you guys are open
- 42:25to other things because that's a huge thing too.
- 42:28I know like, some people they like, are like die hard, like
- 42:31just, you know, they want to do it the natural way, which I
- 42:33understand, you know. Yeah.
- 42:35But I mean, at least you guys are open.
- 42:37Yeah, to other possibilities. Yeah.
- 42:39So that's awesome. Yeah, so.
- 42:41You know, just know that you're not alone in your struggle and
- 42:45there's so many other people that do go through this, you
- 42:49know, and I know it. I feel like it's kind of hard
- 42:52because you know, like knowing you go through this, like it's
- 42:56kind of hard because I'm like, oh, I feel sometimes bad, like
- 42:59sending photos or. Anything and I'm just like a
- 43:01whole. And I and obviously that's me.
- 43:03Like, yeah, me. Because I'm like, who even
- 43:06thinks like? That me.
- 43:08But yeah, no, not at all. Yeah.
- 43:11You know, like I love Axel and I'm so glad I finally got.
- 43:16To Oh my gosh, I know he's almost six months Yes, and he's
- 43:20big. He's a he's a bird boy.
- 43:23He wears plus size. Dad, stop it.
- 43:27No. But yeah, no.
- 43:28But honestly, you and Kevin are such a good couple.
- 43:31And I'm just like, really happy. Like, maybe this is a good time
- 43:34to just really make your relationship the best it can.
- 43:38Yeah. Because honestly, once that kid
- 43:40comes, I mean, you've seen how it is like, you have to drop
- 43:42everything. And it's like, Jace, you know,
- 43:45it's a lot. But I hope you guys, you know, I
- 43:49know. I hope so, too.
- 43:49It happens in any way that it's meant to be.
- 43:52Yeah, yeah, I know it will. I just.
- 43:54Yeah, I'm impatient. I'm already, you know, pushing
- 43:5840. Like almost there.
- 44:00Who cares? Yeah, I'm like.
- 44:03It doesn't matter. So yeah, we were both like, all
- 44:06right, it's time to start, you know, eating healthier.
- 44:09And healthy, yeah. Yeah, like let's just be more
- 44:13conscious about, you know, what we put into our bodies and start
- 44:18working out again. And yeah, that way we're
- 44:22prepared for. It awesome.
- 44:23Yeah. I really think that that's a
- 44:25great idea and I should probably follow that advice as well.
- 44:30Yeah, no, I got to start. 1st. All right, you go first, tell me
- 44:36how it is and then I'll start. I like the results.
- 44:41So anyways, just to kind of end this episode, I just want to say
- 44:46thank you so much for being here.
- 44:48And I know like sometimes she gets a little anxious and it was
- 44:51a lot for her, but I'm so proud of her and just we are proud of
- 44:56me. Yeah, I'm proud of you.
- 44:59No, I am. I want to tell you like I am so
- 45:03proud of who you've become. Yeah.
- 45:06You are such a great mom seeing you with.
- 45:09Axel, stop. She doesn't make me cry.
- 45:11These past two days. Yeah.
- 45:15Oh no, girl. Like, you know, I just and now
- 45:19doing the podcast, Yeah. And I know it's going to, like,
- 45:23help a lot of people. All right, well, once again,
- 45:26we're so happy to have you here at Mom Gone Mild.
- 45:30And, you know, we have gone through so many UPS, so many
- 45:34downs, heart breaks, chaos, happiness.
- 45:37We're both each other's maid of honor.
- 45:40And. And yeah.
- 45:43And honestly, if you're still in that crazy party girl era, hell
- 45:46yeah. Have fun.
- 45:48Enjoy it because it doesn't like.
- 45:51Well, hopefully it doesn't last forever, but oh boy, we're not
- 45:55judging, but. I'll probably go back to my
- 45:57party girl. Yeah, once I'm in like my 60s.
- 46:01Yeah, I was actually thinking, I was like, when I'm older, I
- 46:04definitely. Want to like?
- 46:06That like girls trip and just like, go on jet skis and do the
- 46:10crazy. I mean, hopefully at that age I
- 46:12can still do all that. You will.
- 46:14Yeah. But I'm excited for the future.
