Latest / The Daily Sarcast / May 28th, 2026: Shows Leaving Netflix, The Lincoln Memorial Pool And Misplaced Things
Transcript
- 0:00Today's episode is sponsored by Traveling for Work. It looks a lot more glamorous than it really is.
- 0:06The image was sourced from a third-party licensed library, the lighting company
- 0:11Govi, on licensing a white supremacy book for their marketing photos.
- 0:17Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Sarcast.
- 0:20I give you the news and may be a laugh. I'm Lindsay Vernick and it's May 28th, 2026.
- 0:26Coming to you live today from South Beach, Miami. It's Thursday morning.
- 0:33If you missed yesterday's pod, I am in South Beach this week for swim week.
- 0:39I'm here filming a show right now, and like some of it will be occurring during swim week.
- 0:45So yeah, I haven't been to Miami in almost like 10 years now,
- 0:49and I'm realizing why it's been almost 10 years now.
- 0:53In real news, the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool or repair is now costing
- 0:57$13.1 million after originally being pitched as way cheaper than that.
- 1:03And apparently the contractor's profit margin is significantly higher than what's
- 1:08normal for federal projects.
- 1:10So the government gave this company a no big contract, which means that there
- 1:15was no competition, there was no comparing prices,
- 1:18it was just straight to congrats, you got the gig to this company,
- 1:22which is pretty bold for fixing one of the most famous landmarks in America.
- 1:27What makes it even crazier is that this company never had a federal contract before.
- 1:33Like, imagine getting hired to fix the Lincoln Memorial because someone liked
- 1:37what you did with their backyard pool.
- 1:40And the pool is still leaking, which is literally their entire your assignment.
- 1:45According to the reports, the contractor tried sealing the concrete gaps twice,
- 1:50and both times it failed.
- 1:53So now they're brainstorming solutions, which is the exact phrase you want to
- 1:58hear when it's attached to a $13 million government project.
- 2:03Also, the waterproof coating they used to apparently tint American flag blue
- 2:08came out blotchy and uneven.
- 2:12Nothing says the United States quite like expensive confusion.
- 2:16My favorite quote came from a group that criticized this entire thing,
- 2:21and he said, We've known this is America's 250th anniversary for 250 years.
- 2:28That's true. He's not wrong.
- 2:31Joe Biden is now suing the Justice Department to stop the release of audio recordings
- 2:36from interviews he did with his ghostwriter while writing his memoir.
- 2:40It's a little terrifying because if anyone released the voice notes from my
- 2:44creative process, I would immediately sue too.
- 2:47The recordings were apparently collected during the classified documents investigation
- 2:52a few years ago, and now the Trump Justice Department plans to hand them over
- 2:57to Congress unless a judge blocks it.
- 2:59Biden's lawyers are arguing the conversations were private and personal,
- 3:03especially because they involved discussions about his son Beau and whether
- 3:08he should run for president in 2016.
- 3:10But the Republicans want the tapes released because apparently the United States
- 3:15has now become a nation where every political scandal eventually turns into podcast content.
- 3:21This whole thing started because Biden's ghostwriter handed over a hard drive
- 3:25during the investigation, which is a reminder that nobody in your life can destroy
- 3:30you faster than a ghostwriter.
- 3:32And now every former president is currently deleting every single one of their voice memos.
- 3:38Wait, I just thought of this, and this doesn't really go in the news section,
- 3:42but do you think the old presidents have a group chat? They definitely do, right?
- 3:47And our current president is definitely not in it.
- 3:51Okay, moving on. Netflix just announced a bunch of movies and shows that are
- 3:56leaving in June, which means it's once again time for all of us to pretend we
- 4:00were definitely about to watch all of them.
- 4:03Sex and the City is one of them, and it's leaving at the end of the month,
- 4:07which feels very dangerous for New York women specifically and any girls who
- 4:12dream of moving to New York.
- 4:14So a lot of girls are about to lose their entire identity.
- 4:18Also leaving is Mrs. Doubtfire, Mean Girls, and Glory. So Netflix is literally
- 4:24getting rid of all comfort movies.
- 4:26Nothing makes me feel older than seeing Mean Girls described as a classic while
- 4:31my knees crack while standing up.
- 4:33They're also removing K-19, The Widowmaker, which apparently is the only movie
- 4:40where Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson have ever appeared together.
- 4:43That's honestly shocking. that feels
- 4:46like a movie your dad accidentally falls asleep watching a
- 4:49recliner with one shoe still on the thing
- 4:52is everybody suddenly panic watches these movies
- 4:56the second they're leaving like the second netflix
- 4:59says last chance people are suddenly like wow i've always deeply cared about
- 5:04aquarius season two no you really didn't in lindsey life so as you know i work
- 5:11in tv And this business is very different than your traditional nine to five job.
- 5:16I was just talking about this with a coworker the other day,
- 5:20and it has this other level of intimacy that you will never see in a corporate job.
- 5:27Like we will constantly like share drinks and food with each other like that we took a bite out of.
- 5:32Like we act as if we're close friends, but we're not. We still are co-workers.
- 5:38It is very strange. Anyways, so I found myself yesterday texting my boss that
- 5:43I left my medication back in my apartment in New York, but she's not supposed
- 5:48to fly down to Miami until today, so I text her like, you can bring it.
- 5:52And she was like, okay, cool. Let me know. And then I ended up like finding
- 5:56my medication when I got to the hotel in Miami. And I texted her like,
- 5:59okay, found it. I'm good.
- 6:00And I'm like, well, only me would I be texting my own boss, texting her to bring
- 6:07like my like SSRIs down to Miami for me because I left them.
- 6:12So that's the Lindsay Life update today.
- 6:16Things I misplaced this past week and may or may not have found my hotel room
- 6:21key. And yes, I know I literally did just get here.
- 6:24My portable battery pack, I did fine.
- 6:27My medicine, again, did fine. My passport, unfortunately not.
- 6:32And my mind, unfortunately not either.
