- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 0:26Speaker 2: Millennials who Want Financial Freedom. Welcome back to another one
- 0:30Speaker 2: of our Friday Drinks episodes where we get to celebrate
- 0:33Speaker 2: the money wins and confessions from our community that happen
- 0:35Speaker 2: each and every single week. Now, this week we're missing
- 0:39Speaker 2: a few of the crew. They're just, I guess, too
- 0:41Speaker 2: busy for us nowadays, very busy. Yeah, Georgia was just
- 0:44Speaker 2: too busy. I just didn't want to come in. Just
- 0:47Speaker 2: kind of a bit slack from my perspective. But we've
- 0:49Speaker 2: got the ogs Tony and Ryan here. Do you reckon
- 0:53Speaker 2: that we will be able to cut an episode just
- 0:54Speaker 2: as good without them?
- 0:56Speaker 3: I feel like there's something missing without our little pals.
- 0:58Speaker 2: But it actually fins a bit weird. When you guys
- 1:01Speaker 2: were like, let's do Friday night drinks, I was like,
- 1:03Speaker 2: oh yay, that like nobody's here here.
- 1:06Speaker 3: And it also needs to be mentioned that because Jess
- 1:08Speaker 3: wasn't here organizing our lives, none of us have a drink,
- 1:11Speaker 3: so and I have has a war and I've got
- 1:14Speaker 3: my water.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Yeah, and we're also definitely not nearly as prepared as
- 1:17Speaker 2: we would be without Jess. So that's all.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Right, It's fine.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Do you think it will survive?
- 1:22Speaker 3: I hope. So I'm supposed to be the EP of
- 1:24Speaker 3: this podcast, I should probably be able to pull it together,
- 1:26Speaker 3: to be honest.
- 1:27Speaker 4: What have you done? Then? Oh?
- 1:28Speaker 3: I sent you the notes?
- 1:29Speaker 2: You did send me some screenshots.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Yes, I've seen screenshots of the notes.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Eche it was really good. But before we jump into
- 1:38Speaker 2: Ryan's money ins, let's just wrap what happened this week
- 1:41Speaker 2: Tony money Diaries. What happened on our Monday episode.
- 1:45Speaker 3: So our money diary this week was called twenty nine
- 1:48Speaker 3: and catching Up, And basically she had gone overseas and
- 1:53Speaker 3: felt like when she came back she hadn't earned any
- 1:56Speaker 3: souper and she was feeling a bit behind on on
- 1:59Speaker 3: what she'd been doing, which is really like a crappy
- 2:02Speaker 3: spot to be put in.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Ye, but I feel like everyone it's like almost like
- 2:05Speaker 4: a rite of passage Australians. We go overseas for a
- 2:08Speaker 4: year ago and you come home with nothing, And I
- 2:10Speaker 4: don't think that's not normal. I reckon that's real common.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Well, she actually stayed overseas for four years.
- 2:15Speaker 2: That's such a long period of time, like four years,
- 2:18Speaker 2: a lot can happen.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Yeah, And when we were talking to our money darist
- 2:23Speaker 3: this week, it reminded me a little bit of me.
- 2:26Speaker 3: So I didn't travel after I went to UNI. I
- 2:28Speaker 3: started working straight away, and every time we kind of
- 2:31Speaker 3: really my boyfriend and I really got into our groove,
- 2:34Speaker 3: we would move because I got a better job of
- 2:36Speaker 3: opportunity somewhere else. So we lived in a country town
- 2:39Speaker 3: in Wa for a while, and then we moved to Sydney,
- 2:42Speaker 3: and then we moved to Melbourne. And for me, it
- 2:45Speaker 3: feels like I've missed out because everybody else in my
- 2:48Speaker 3: life is you know, buying a house or getting married
- 2:50Speaker 3: or whatever. But we've spent all that time investing into
- 2:55Speaker 3: into my career and for ages. I felt really bad
- 2:59Speaker 3: about being behind everybody else, but I'm ahead in other ways.
- 3:04Speaker 2: And I guess she's literally on she's on the money now.
- 3:09Speaker 4: There was news though last week. I think the law
- 3:12Speaker 4: used to be that any Australian can move to the
- 3:14Speaker 4: UK if they were aged thirty or below, and Australia
- 3:17Speaker 4: and England kind of had a deal where we can
- 3:19Speaker 4: go work cool. They've actually extended that, I believe to
- 3:21Speaker 4: now thirty five now, yeah, because I remember when I
- 3:25Speaker 4: turned thirty I kind of have the same kind of
- 3:27Speaker 4: bit of fomo. I was like, oh, I feel like,
- 3:28Speaker 4: you know, everyone has their London year, yeah, and I
- 3:31Speaker 4: never got a chance. And now they've moved that to yeah,
- 3:33Speaker 4: I think thirty five.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Yeah great, I'll ask my three pets and my partner
- 3:38Speaker 2: if that's an option for us.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Should we got and the new house that.
- 3:40Speaker 2: You're new house that I'm renovating, and all of the
- 3:43Speaker 2: other financial and life commitments that I have, let alone
- 3:46Speaker 2: the fact that I have a team literally that I
- 3:48Speaker 2: need to be in the office spot. It's not the
- 3:49Speaker 2: point we're having a gap year, a gap for you. Well,
- 3:54Speaker 2: I never got a gap year either, and I always
- 3:56Speaker 2: felt like I was missing out because my little sister
- 3:59Speaker 2: did their gap year, and I guess being the older sibling,
- 4:02Speaker 2: I'm like the older nerdier like.
- 4:03Speaker 4: Definitely, your sister is definitely the fun one of the thing.
- 4:06Speaker 3: It was pretty cool. I haven't even met her and
- 4:07Speaker 3: I know everybody knows she's.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Gonna meet the party of course. God yeah, someone like.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Can I hang out?
- 4:14Speaker 2: Jeez, I'm glad, I'm But it's one of those things
- 4:20Speaker 2: where I just never considered it. I was so desperate
- 4:22Speaker 2: to get into university because I remember year twelve being
- 4:25Speaker 2: so stressful and I was just feeling like, oh my god,
- 4:27Speaker 2: if I don't get into UNI, like the world's going
- 4:29Speaker 2: to come crashing down, like Newslasher doesn't come crashing down.
- 4:32Speaker 2: I remember being really stressed and you know, going straight
- 4:35Speaker 2: into UNI. And by the time my little sister got to,
- 4:38Speaker 2: you know, the age where she was finishing year twelve,
- 4:40Speaker 2: I was like in third year UNI, I think, and
- 4:42Speaker 2: she was like, I'm going to take your gap year
- 4:44Speaker 2: and I was like, what that's an option? Like I
- 4:46Speaker 2: remember my parents being super supportive because she just wanted
- 4:49Speaker 2: to see the world and you know, travel and have fun.
- 4:51Speaker 2: And I am still envious of that break she got
- 4:54Speaker 2: because it just, you know, personally, she grew a lot.
- 4:58Speaker 2: She had some really great experiences with her friends. But
- 5:00Speaker 2: in saying that, I don't regret anything about what I've done.
- 5:03Speaker 2: I just have never had that overseas break, mainly because
- 5:07Speaker 2: I just put too much pressure on myself to perform,
- 5:09Speaker 2: like and that's okay, We're just all different people, and
- 5:12Speaker 2: I think that that's just it is what it is.
- 5:14Speaker 2: But as Ryan was saying, Tony, we.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Can still have Yeah, We've still got time. I think
- 5:20Speaker 3: it was just a really nice way to think about
- 5:23Speaker 3: We'll reassure our money tyists that you aren't missing out.
- 5:27Speaker 3: And there are things that you gain from whatever you
- 5:30Speaker 3: choose that other people don't gain from what they choose,
- 5:32Speaker 3: and everything seems all perfect and like the best opportunity
- 5:35Speaker 3: when you see other people have done it, but it
- 5:37Speaker 3: doesn't take away from what you've gained. And yeah, it
- 5:41Speaker 3: was really hard for me personally to understand that I'd
- 5:46Speaker 3: invested in my career over all that time rather than
- 5:49Speaker 3: saving money to buy a house, and like now I'm
- 5:52Speaker 3: twenty seven, and yeah, I could probably own a house
- 5:54Speaker 3: and do all these other things that you see.
- 5:56Speaker 2: People doing, but that wasn't your values, exactly the thing
- 5:59Speaker 2: that you wanted to do. And I think that these
- 6:01Speaker 2: weeks Money direst really drove home for me that it
- 6:04Speaker 2: doesn't matter what position you're in. Yep, you're still going
- 6:06Speaker 2: to compare yourself to the journey of other people.
- 6:08Speaker 3: H huh.
- 6:08Speaker 2: And it doesn't matter if you're super impressive and have
- 6:10Speaker 2: your first home by the age of twenty seven and
- 6:12Speaker 2: three kids and you're married and have been for the
- 6:14Speaker 2: last fifty years, Like people don't care, you're still going
- 6:17Speaker 2: to compare your journey to that of others. And seeing
- 6:21Speaker 2: this person who I was like, Wow, she's traveled and
- 6:23Speaker 2: had such great life experience and you know now she's
- 6:26Speaker 2: come home and she's investing, yeah, and joint cool things,
- 6:30Speaker 2: like what an epic person. Yep, But that's not how
- 6:33Speaker 2: she was feeling about it. And I, yah, wait, what
- 6:35Speaker 2: what do you mean you don't feel epic about this?
- 6:37Speaker 3: And she actually sent a really nice email as well,
- 6:40Speaker 3: like thanking us for having her on the podcast, which
- 6:43Speaker 3: was lovely, and she said that she was really proud
- 6:46Speaker 3: of how she spoke and that she was really excited
- 6:48Speaker 3: to like show her friends and family and that kind
- 6:51Speaker 3: of thing. So I think that sometimes it's just that
- 6:53Speaker 3: perspective shift that you need that when you talk about
- 6:56Speaker 3: yourself in a way that you don't talk it's not
- 6:58Speaker 3: the way that you self taught, but when you talk
- 7:01Speaker 3: about yourself to others, you kind of hear it in
- 7:03Speaker 3: a different light, I think. But yeah, I hope that
- 7:06Speaker 3: anybody that's in the situation where they might be comparing
- 7:09Speaker 3: theirselves or you know, feeling like a bit left behind
- 7:12Speaker 3: or whatever. It's just never too late and whatever choices
- 7:15Speaker 3: you've made were the right ones few at the time.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Absolutely yeah, I agree and quickly dust over this week's
- 7:20Speaker 2: deep dive. Georgia King and I we sat down and
- 7:23Speaker 2: talked about New Financial Year, new financial goals, which was
- 7:27Speaker 2: really fun, mainly because I love goal setting and talking
- 7:30Speaker 2: about setting goals and resetting goals. And you know, this year,
- 7:33Speaker 2: I know that the She's on the Money community have
- 7:35Speaker 2: downloaded a lot of those savings hacks sheets and they're
- 7:38Speaker 2: loving setting goals and like sharing their goals, and like,
- 7:41Speaker 2: I just think it's been so special, and you know,
- 7:45Speaker 2: half year is the time that we start to sort
- 7:47Speaker 2: of dwindle on our goals and fall off the bandwagon
- 7:51Speaker 2: because oh my gosh, I can't believe it's June, and
- 7:53Speaker 2: now I can't believe it's July, and you know, you
- 7:55Speaker 2: kind of go, oh, I haven't achieved what I wanted
- 7:57Speaker 2: to achieve, But like, we've got so much time left.
- 7:59Speaker 2: And I absolutely do not subscribe to the notion that
- 8:02Speaker 2: you need a new year to set a new financial
- 8:04Speaker 2: or life goal. Like, if you want to do something,
- 8:06Speaker 2: just start now. It doesn't matter you don't need the
- 8:08Speaker 2: first of January twenty twenty two to do it. But
- 8:11Speaker 2: at the same time, I know a lot of people
- 8:13Speaker 2: would have set goals on the first of January twenty
- 8:15Speaker 2: twenty one that they're now not maintaining, and so I
- 8:18Speaker 2: kind of wanted to reinvigorate that talk about goal setting,
- 8:21Speaker 2: talk about how to reset those goals and feel okay
- 8:24Speaker 2: with it and maybe get back on the bandwagon if
- 8:26Speaker 2: you've fallen off. But if you haven't set any goals,
- 8:28Speaker 2: now's a great time to think about it as well.
- 8:30Speaker 2: So that was a really fun chat, mainly because I
- 8:32Speaker 2: love goal setting and talking about how people are achieving things.
- 8:35Speaker 2: But that's what the Wednesday AB was.
- 8:38Speaker 4: What's your next money go of Victoria Devine.
- 8:40Speaker 2: I don't know. I genuinely don't.
- 8:43Speaker 4: Tony Lodge.
- 8:44Speaker 3: We've got a bit of debt that I would love
- 8:46Speaker 3: to pay off, just like some personal credit card debt
- 8:48Speaker 3: from like I was doing about before moving around a lot.
- 8:51Speaker 3: That's probably our next next thing that we want to
- 8:54Speaker 3: polyshaft so that we can start investing and having real
- 8:57Speaker 3: savings and that kind of thing ry.
- 9:00Speaker 4: We're saving for the house.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I'm sorry, you were an option last weekend.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Yeah, god goes from saving.
- 9:09Speaker 4: I was not bidding, I was observing.
- 9:12Speaker 2: But how much did it go over?
- 9:13Speaker 4: By a lot? Yeah? And that's the thing anyone who
- 9:18Speaker 4: lives in more probably any major city in Australia at
- 9:20Speaker 4: the moment, the house prices are just insane. At the moment.
- 9:24Speaker 4: I heard a stat that in Melbourne the house prices
- 9:27Speaker 4: are going up eight hundred dollars a day. What And
- 9:31Speaker 4: obviously you know it's averaged in every house a little
- 9:33Speaker 4: bit different. But when they do the big averages and
- 9:35Speaker 4: the big data, every single day it goes up eight
- 9:38Speaker 4: hundred dollars.
- 9:38Speaker 3: I wish my value went up eight hundred dollars. I
- 9:42Speaker 3: wish another eight hundred dollars.
- 9:45Speaker 4: So we were hoping maybe towards the end of the year,
- 9:47Speaker 4: but like it's we're not saving eight hundred a day.
- 9:50Speaker 4: So it's very.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Pressure to put on ourselves. How is that fair for us,
- 9:56Speaker 2: as you know, millennials, to go, you know what, I
- 9:58Speaker 2: really want to purchase property and then you look at
- 10:00Speaker 2: the stats and it's going up eight hundred dollars a day.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Some people can't even save that in a month. How
- 10:05Speaker 2: were we even going to make that achievable.
- 10:06Speaker 4: And the place we went to not only would we
- 10:09Speaker 4: be nowhere near being able to afford what it eventually
- 10:11Speaker 4: went for, it was a real doer opera. Oh no,
- 10:16Speaker 4: so it's like I can't even afford a place that
- 10:18Speaker 4: needs work. Yeah, And I feel like a lot of
- 10:22Speaker 4: people listening now will be nodding and being like here mate.
- 10:25Speaker 3: But I mean, if anybody listening does need help with
- 10:29Speaker 3: the property buying.
- 10:30Speaker 4: Process, there's a podcast.
- 10:33Speaker 2: I wish there was a podcast, Ryan, We should do one.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Bounce your Little Bunny Tails trade over to the Property Playbook,
- 10:39Speaker 3: new episodes every Tuesday, and Victoria and Amullnardi and myself
- 10:44Speaker 3: are talking about.
- 10:45Speaker 2: How to actually get into the from go to woe
- 10:48Speaker 2: A to V I thought that was so sassy. Just
- 10:51Speaker 2: so you guys know, Tony came up with that tagline.
- 10:54Speaker 2: And I'm very proud of UQ speaking are very proud.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Do you know what we were about to dogs money Wins.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Is this where we're proud of the community or you
- 11:04Speaker 4: might say you're proud of me just as a guy.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Oh no, we're not proud of you as a guy.
- 11:07Speaker 2: We are proud of the community and that's why we
- 11:09Speaker 2: do the Money wins and confessions from Ryan each week.
- 11:11Speaker 4: All right. Christy said that she has been looking for
- 11:14Speaker 4: wedding shoes for ages, and as you guys know, as
- 11:16Speaker 4: soon as you start looking for stuff online, the ads
- 11:18Speaker 4: start coming on Facebook and stuff. So she's seen these
- 11:21Speaker 4: ones worth six hundred bucks and she like, that's so
- 11:24Speaker 4: much money. Yeah, and she's like, they just keep popping
- 11:26Speaker 4: up as ads. I can't get them out of my head.
- 11:28Speaker 4: I love these shoes. Finally they come up for four
- 11:32Speaker 4: fifty they're on sale, and she buys them and goes, yes,
- 11:35Speaker 4: I've saved one hundred and fifty dollars. I've just been
- 11:37Speaker 4: thinking about these shoes. She gets them, she puts them on,
- 11:40Speaker 4: she's like, they're great, but you know what, I just
- 11:43Speaker 4: don't know even at four fifty, if they're the ones
- 11:46Speaker 4: for me.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, all right, So then able to preturn them.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Yep. She stumbles across these other ones that she's like,
- 11:52Speaker 4: I just fell in love with these other ones. How
- 11:54Speaker 4: much are they? One hundred dollars? Yeah? Zero, got the
- 11:58Speaker 4: four hundred and fifty back has the shoes of her
- 12:00Speaker 4: dream for a big day. Christy all the best for
- 12:02Speaker 4: the wedding.
- 12:05Speaker 3: But I'm glad that she bought the expensive shoes right
- 12:07Speaker 3: as a side note, because she probably otherwise if she
- 12:10Speaker 3: just bought the one hundred dollars ones, she would have
- 12:12Speaker 3: in her mind always been like I should have just
- 12:14Speaker 3: bought those shoes.
- 12:15Speaker 4: I wonder what I would have looked like in those shoes.
- 12:17Speaker 3: But she's done it, and I'm so proud of that.
- 12:20Speaker 3: And if you need anyone else at your wedding, we
- 12:22Speaker 3: are free.
- 12:22Speaker 4: We are free. Oh are we?
- 12:24Speaker 3: Yep, all three of us.
- 12:25Speaker 2: I'll be there.
- 12:26Speaker 4: Rachel said, this might seem like a strange money win,
- 12:29Speaker 4: but I'm really proud of myself. She's in Sydney, which
- 12:32Speaker 4: is currently in lockdown like a lot of places in Australia,
- 12:34Speaker 4: and she said, any other time we might have gone
- 12:37Speaker 4: into lockdown, I would have been stressing and that would
- 12:40Speaker 4: have really done me in. But for the first time
- 12:42Speaker 4: my life, I've got an emergency fund.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Oh my heart.
- 12:45Speaker 4: And I thought, you know what, this is what an
- 12:47Speaker 4: emergency fund is for, for emergency.
- 12:49Speaker 2: But that's just it. And I think that if we're
- 12:51Speaker 2: going to talk about this, sorry to derail your conversation
- 12:54Speaker 2: right now, but that's what your emergency fund is for.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Do not feel guilty about having to into that at
- 13:00Speaker 2: this point in time, because that's what you've been saving
- 13:03Speaker 2: it for.
- 13:04Speaker 4: Well, you know how we say don't judge your pastself.
- 13:06Speaker 4: She's sort of the opposite. She's like very proud. She's like,
- 13:09Speaker 4: I've saved this thing. This is why I've done it,
- 13:11Speaker 4: and now I get to reap the benefits of the sacrifice.
- 13:14Speaker 4: So good on you. Rachel Carnie said that she bought
- 13:17Speaker 4: a house twelve months ago. Now this is the opposite
- 13:19Speaker 4: of my woes from earlier. She said, they had to
- 13:21Speaker 4: get it revalued for a bank thing they might have
- 13:23Speaker 4: been refinancing. It's now worth one hundred and forty thousand
- 13:26Speaker 4: more than she bought in just twelve months. Oh wow, that's.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Like more than someone's full time salary that she's just
- 13:34Speaker 2: found in equity in her property. Like, imagine being able
- 13:37Speaker 2: to save that much in twelve months. I'm just shook
- 13:39Speaker 2: when I hear stuff like that.
- 13:41Speaker 4: All right, Larissa said she called the Department a Transport
- 13:44Speaker 4: to check something with her car regi and actually worked
- 13:46Speaker 4: out that she had ticked like a business car like
- 13:49Speaker 4: for a van or whatever, which I think the regio
- 13:51Speaker 4: is a little bit high expensive. But it turns out
- 13:54Speaker 4: her car was not the category she originally ticked, and
- 13:57Speaker 4: they said, oh, you've actually been paying too much. Here's
- 13:59Speaker 4: a refund and a credit towards your next regio payment.
- 14:03Speaker 3: That is such a money yeah, because it's REGI not
- 14:07Speaker 3: the worst, most annoying to get. You get a power
- 14:09Speaker 3: bill and you're like, yeap, okay, fair enough, water bill,
- 14:12Speaker 3: gas whatever, But that regio, that stinky little regio. Every
- 14:16Speaker 3: time it turns up, you go. Hasn't really been three months.
- 14:19Speaker 2: It's actually so frustrating. I feel like that about my
- 14:22Speaker 2: car insurance because I've been trying to time it right
- 14:25Speaker 2: and this is it's not a money loss and it's
- 14:27Speaker 2: not a money win. So I didn't save this one,
- 14:30Speaker 2: but I time it for just pre financial years so
- 14:34Speaker 2: that I can claim it in that taxi because like
- 14:36Speaker 2: of course Victoria Devine has thought about it.
- 14:39Speaker 4: So what it sticked over a few days ago?
- 14:40Speaker 2: Then yeah, yeah, so I had this due earlier this month,
- 14:43Speaker 2: So like mid June, I start getting my regro, AT
- 14:46Speaker 2: start getting my insurance, I get my income protection insurance,
- 14:48Speaker 2: I get literally everything so that I can pay it then.
- 14:52Speaker 2: But then once June thirty comes and goes. I can
- 14:54Speaker 2: then claim it on tax immediately because obviously I'm a
- 14:57Speaker 2: genius she is on the Yeah wow. But if I
- 15:02Speaker 2: wasn't saving all year for that, I definitely one couldn't
- 15:06Speaker 2: do that. Yeah, true, because.
- 15:07Speaker 3: That's a take you outlay at one time.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:10Speaker 2: I can't tell you how frustrating it is, regardless of
- 15:13Speaker 2: the fact that one I've saved for it. Yes, it's
- 15:15Speaker 2: a normal bill, and any other time I'd be like, great,
- 15:17Speaker 2: like just pay the bills, Like I've got the money
- 15:19Speaker 2: in my cash hub because I've done my budget and
- 15:21Speaker 2: I know what it's there. But oh my gosh, going
- 15:23Speaker 2: into my cashub that many times this month to pay
- 15:25Speaker 2: the things that I'd already committed to and definitely had
- 15:28Speaker 2: to pay that it just feels audacious.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Yeah, it's rude.
- 15:31Speaker 2: It's it's not a money loss, it's not a money win.
- 15:34Speaker 2: It's just me being frustrated with my money that.
- 15:36Speaker 3: You have to spend the money on the things that
- 15:38Speaker 3: you use.
- 15:39Speaker 2: What what do you mean I've been saving to pay
- 15:42Speaker 2: my regio and now it's due, Like.
- 15:44Speaker 4: Oh yeah, Paul, let now We've had this money win
- 15:49Speaker 4: multiple times before. But it's just another great example from
- 15:53Speaker 4: no people who use those price lock apps with the
- 15:57Speaker 4: petrol oh, because.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Like seven to eleven have one where you say you
- 16:00Speaker 3: hit bang then it.
- 16:01Speaker 4: Just like priss yep. So she's used the seven eleven app.
- 16:05Speaker 3: She think Miss just Griachi is a big fan of
- 16:09Speaker 3: fuel app.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Yeah, so I didn't realize this fuel price has got
- 16:12Speaker 4: to a dollar seventy five, Elita.
- 16:14Speaker 2: I saw that and it hit me in the heart.
- 16:17Speaker 4: Yeah, so Paultte locked it in at a dollar twenty right,
- 16:22Speaker 4: say what fifty cents per liter saving.
- 16:25Speaker 2: She's a genius.
- 16:26Speaker 4: Well done.
- 16:27Speaker 2: I bet the guy at the servo or the girl
- 16:29Speaker 2: at the servo was just really impressed with her as well. Look,
- 16:32Speaker 2: they thought they were getting this like one seven year
- 16:34Speaker 2: leader and then she's like, check out my phone, you've
- 16:36Speaker 2: got her on on this.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Did you know that they don't make commission on the
- 16:38Speaker 3: fuel The counter doesn't own seven eleven that forty cents later?
- 16:45Speaker 4: Really know how often canceled university you're not getting out to.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Can you know when you go into the servo and
- 16:51Speaker 2: they're like, oh, have you got any discounts? In ninety
- 16:52Speaker 2: percent of the time, Myers has not remembered.
- 16:56Speaker 3: I never have anything.
- 16:57Speaker 2: I never have it. I'm like, no, I'm like, imagine
- 16:59Speaker 2: not only walking in and being like, oh, by the way,
- 17:01Speaker 2: yeah I do. It's fifty cents a leader, and he's
- 17:05Speaker 2: asking for that boor sense of leader that means nothing,
- 17:07Speaker 2: to pull out.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Nothing.
- 17:10Speaker 4: Now, I don't want to finish on it. I wouldn't
- 17:11Speaker 4: say a downer because this is definitely not a down up,
- 17:14Speaker 4: but I reckon. We might get a tear from Victoria divine.
- 17:17Speaker 2: No, don't do this, you reckon? Are you being genuine?
- 17:22Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 17:22Speaker 2: No, don't make me cry.
- 17:24Speaker 4: Jasmine.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Okay, hi, Jasmine.
- 17:26Speaker 4: I was homeless when I was sixteen, says Jasmine. I
- 17:30Speaker 4: became a single mum in my early twenties, which is
- 17:32Speaker 4: really hard work. Having listened to she's on the money,
- 17:35Speaker 4: I'm proud to say that I've just built a family
- 17:38Speaker 4: home and I am thankful for this life. I could
- 17:41Speaker 4: have never imagined.
- 17:45Speaker 2: What one Jasmine, Jasmine, I'm not crying. I'm not crying.
- 17:49Speaker 2: I'm close.
- 17:50Speaker 4: She built a house, She built a house, her own
- 17:53Speaker 4: house that she owns Oh.
- 17:55Speaker 2: You know what, I love that, But like that's not us, babe,
- 18:02Speaker 2: that's you. Like, that's not us. We didn't do that yeah,
- 18:06Speaker 2: we might have the tools and resources. And I say
- 18:08Speaker 2: this all the time, and it's not me trying to
- 18:09Speaker 2: shift credit or say you know, we definitely didn't do that.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Like I have the tools and resources, yes, and I've
- 18:16Speaker 2: tried to make them as accessible as possible. But there
- 18:19Speaker 2: are so many people out there that have been introduced
- 18:21Speaker 2: to she is on the money and the tools and
- 18:23Speaker 2: resources we you have, and they're not ready to have them.
- 18:25Speaker 2: They're not ready to take that on. They are not
- 18:27Speaker 2: ready to make any change. You have to be in
- 18:29Speaker 2: that mindset to make change, to put yourself in a
- 18:32Speaker 2: better position. I can't do that for you. That's the
- 18:35Speaker 2: one thing that is going to make sustainable and long
- 18:38Speaker 2: term change for you, and that, unfortunately, is the one
- 18:41Speaker 2: thing I can't do. Yeah you did that, I didn't
- 18:43Speaker 2: do that. I might have given you the budget, I
- 18:45Speaker 2: might have helped you the podcast, might have been something
- 18:47Speaker 2: that inspired you. I love that and I'm so proud
- 18:50Speaker 2: of that. But like, I don't want people to think
- 18:52Speaker 2: it's not them, like she did that.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Because you're the one that every month put that extra
- 18:56Speaker 3: money aside. I did it, and you know, went without
- 18:59Speaker 3: getting nails done or doing something that for you because
- 19:02Speaker 3: you knew that you were working towards something bigger. And
- 19:04Speaker 3: that's so special.
- 19:05Speaker 2: That is so special. I'm so proud of her. All right, Tony,
- 19:18Speaker 2: let's jump straight back into the pod. What have you
- 19:21Speaker 2: got to share with the community this week? Anything interesting,
- 19:23Speaker 2: anything fun? Exciting?
- 19:25Speaker 4: Okay?
- 19:26Speaker 3: So I came across this post and I wanted to
- 19:29Speaker 3: get your guys opinion. It's a short and simple one.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Would you rather live somewhere you love and have limited
- 19:35Speaker 3: money due to the cost of living or live somewhere
- 19:39Speaker 3: you hate and be well off financially. So right now,
- 19:44Speaker 3: I'll just say this. It currently has one hundred and
- 19:47Speaker 3: thirty answers. Oh go and quite surprising. Quite surprising. So
- 19:54Speaker 3: I want to ask you guys to.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Ask grind first.
- 19:56Speaker 4: I don't want to go first, just to so I've
- 19:59Speaker 4: got my head across the huh A place that you
- 20:01Speaker 4: really really like but you don't have a lot of money.
- 20:03Speaker 2: We're talking about like the home you have or are
- 20:06Speaker 2: we talking like the location? Like you don't like living
- 20:09Speaker 2: in Melbourne?
- 20:09Speaker 3: So it says would you rather live somewhere you love
- 20:12Speaker 3: and have limited money due to the cost of living?
- 20:14Speaker 3: So I'm guessing yeah, like location for hypothetical.
- 20:19Speaker 4: Should we just say like Paris or New York or something.
- 20:21Speaker 3: It's the city so you can't earn as much money
- 20:24Speaker 3: for the job that you are able to do. Or
- 20:28Speaker 3: would you rather live somewhere you hate, like Balla or
- 20:33Speaker 3: like say you live in the middle of Australia and
- 20:35Speaker 3: it's really really hot and you're just not someone that
- 20:38Speaker 3: likes really really hot, you know, Like that's kind of
- 20:40Speaker 3: where my mind goes.
- 20:41Speaker 2: But you're but making bank, but you're well.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Off financially because your rent's not as expensive.
- 20:46Speaker 2: People do that, right, Like you guys have worked in
- 20:49Speaker 2: Wa so you know that lots of people work in
- 20:52Speaker 2: mining over there, and I would say that they don't
- 20:54Speaker 2: love working five fo but the life that affords them
- 20:57Speaker 2: and their families is worth it for them, right them,
- 21:00Speaker 2: they're making the decision to you know what, I don't
- 21:02Speaker 2: love where I have to live.
- 21:04Speaker 4: And when they fly home though they live in the yeah,
- 21:06Speaker 4: yeah no.
- 21:07Speaker 2: But that's that's another example of like they don't adore
- 21:10Speaker 2: their jobs because they're like five folks like two weeks on,
- 21:12Speaker 2: two weeks off or whatever. Like there's lots of different
- 21:14Speaker 2: iteration and you read.
- 21:15Speaker 3: So much online about how difficult that lifestyle is. Yeah,
- 21:19Speaker 3: husbands or wives that are flying out and the husbands
- 21:22Speaker 3: or wives that are at home with the kids or whatever,
- 21:24Speaker 3: and how difficult that.
- 21:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Sure, you know you hear it and you think, oh,
- 21:28Speaker 3: that's so much money and it's great, but yeah, that
- 21:30Speaker 3: would be so difficult. I know that I could not
- 21:32Speaker 3: do that, So my hat is off to anybody that
- 21:35Speaker 3: does that.
- 21:36Speaker 4: So I associate locations, and like I said, for the example,
- 21:40Speaker 4: let's say it's like a Paris on New York or something.
- 21:43Speaker 4: I associate locations with great food and going out. And
- 21:47Speaker 4: if I went on holidays, I'd be like, where can
- 21:49Speaker 4: we go for dinner? And let's go try some local
- 21:52Speaker 4: cuisine and.
- 21:53Speaker 2: For me to really plan holidays around the food.
- 21:55Speaker 4: That yeah, maybe twenty year old Ryan would have been
- 21:59Speaker 4: about the past, but now I'm a bit older, I'm like,
- 22:01Speaker 4: if there's places to go out and stuff. So for
- 22:03Speaker 4: that question, if you live in this town with these
- 22:05Speaker 4: beautiful restaurants but you can't afford to eat there, for me,
- 22:08Speaker 4: that's the same as maybe not even being there at all.
- 22:11Speaker 2: I think my take's a little bit different, but carry on.
- 22:13Speaker 4: Well, that's what I said when I associate good location.
- 22:15Speaker 4: I associate location with great things to do, and if
- 22:18Speaker 4: you can't afford to do the great things, then that
- 22:20Speaker 4: sort of almost becomes redundant to it. Like if I
- 22:24Speaker 4: lived in Melbourne, which I do now, but like say, you,
- 22:27Speaker 4: you know, the stereotype of Melbourne is like cool laneways
- 22:29Speaker 4: and great coffees, But it's like, yeah, but you can't
- 22:31Speaker 4: drink the coffee because you don't have the cash and
- 22:33Speaker 4: you live two hours out of town because the rent's
- 22:36Speaker 4: expensive in the city. Then I don't know, if you
- 22:38Speaker 4: can't appreciate the good things, maybe it's not worth it.
- 22:40Speaker 4: But having said that, the opposite is true. If you're
- 22:43Speaker 4: in the middle of nowhere and you've got this money
- 22:44Speaker 4: to go out and there's nowhere to go out to, yeah,
- 22:46Speaker 4: then it just sits in the bank and does nothing.
- 22:49Speaker 3: You go, Victoria. I'd love, I actually love to hear
- 22:52Speaker 3: your take on this.
- 22:54Speaker 2: I feel like this is personal preference and it's definitely
- 22:56Speaker 2: just personal opinion. But I think I'd really struggle being
- 22:59Speaker 2: put in position where I didn't love where I lived,
- 23:02Speaker 2: so where I live really nourishes me.
- 23:05Speaker 3: I am the same like.
- 23:06Speaker 2: I need to live somewhere that I feel really comfortable,
- 23:09Speaker 2: and to be honest, I would be very happy to
- 23:11Speaker 2: take a significant paycut if that meant that I had
- 23:14Speaker 2: to make a similar decision when I was in UNI.
- 23:16Speaker 2: And this is absolutely not comparable. And it's like, I guess,
- 23:19Speaker 2: low level entitled, But I could have stayed living with
- 23:22Speaker 2: my parents and had a higher income and definitely been
- 23:25Speaker 2: able to afford a whole heap more during UNI if
- 23:29Speaker 2: I'd stayed living there. But my parents lived more than
- 23:31Speaker 2: an hour and a half away from UNI, and so
- 23:33Speaker 2: I decided to move, even though that would have financially
- 23:36Speaker 2: stunted me, and I definitely couldn't live the life that
- 23:38Speaker 2: I could have if I'd stayed living at home, But
- 23:41Speaker 2: for me, location was really important.
- 23:44Speaker 4: See.
- 23:44Speaker 3: I actually think that's the perfect example.
- 23:47Speaker 2: I don't know, did I do a good job.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Yeah, So I actually think that it's probably more based on, yeah,
- 23:53Speaker 3: like being close to where you are or close to
- 23:55Speaker 3: friends or that kind of thing, and say, you're doing
- 23:59Speaker 3: the exact same job that you're doing now. But like,
- 24:02Speaker 3: and another post that I saw the other day, and
- 24:04Speaker 3: it was someone saying, oh, I really want to start
- 24:06Speaker 3: earning more money. I'm a real estate agent. I live.
- 24:08Speaker 3: It was like Newcastle or the Central Coast or something,
- 24:11Speaker 3: and she was saying, I want to earn a bit
- 24:13Speaker 3: more money. Do you think I have to go to
- 24:15Speaker 3: the city for that, Like, because if I moved to Sydney,
- 24:18Speaker 3: our rent doubles or all of our costs double. But
- 24:22Speaker 3: you know I'm going to be making more money, but
- 24:23Speaker 3: our rent's that much more expensive.
- 24:25Speaker 4: And well, I've moved before and got a significant pay rise,
- 24:29Speaker 4: but by the time the rent goes up and then
- 24:31Speaker 4: you go, oh, I'm earning so much more, but I'm
- 24:33Speaker 4: actually not earning anymore.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Creek exactly right.
- 24:37Speaker 4: But it wasn't even lifestyle creep because the lifestyle was
- 24:39Speaker 4: the same. It was just the cost actually.
- 24:42Speaker 2: And lifestyle creep can impact us in a whole heap
- 24:45Speaker 2: of different ways. Right, It might not just be you
- 24:47Speaker 2: creeping up your expenses, but your expenses by virtue have increased.
- 24:51Speaker 2: So for me, I think, you know, back to what
- 24:54Speaker 2: you were saying about restaurants and.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Stuff, like, maybe I went to heavy on the location in.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Terms of no, I think it's important because you love that.
- 25:01Speaker 2: But for me, like I remember being in the city
- 25:05Speaker 2: for UNI and like literally having not much money.
- 25:08Speaker 3: But living your life living my last life.
- 25:10Speaker 2: You like my girlfriends and I would have drinks at
- 25:12Speaker 2: our place before we went out because we definitely couldn't
- 25:15Speaker 2: afford them at the restaurant. And then I remember we
- 25:17Speaker 2: went to this check coming hot, were out a good time.
- 25:25Speaker 2: But like then, everybody in Melbourne knows you go Byo Dumplings,
- 25:30Speaker 2: you go to the cheap dumplings places in the city,
- 25:32Speaker 2: you have a really good time. You're spending like eleven
- 25:35Speaker 2: dollars each or something on a plate of dumplings. You
- 25:37Speaker 2: got to b Yo Passion Pub and you had a
- 25:40Speaker 2: really good time. So for me, the experiences that I
- 25:42Speaker 2: created weren't dependent on how great the restaurant was, but
- 25:45Speaker 2: more who I was surrounded with than the experiences I
- 25:48Speaker 2: could have. And I just knew that I wouldn't be
- 25:50Speaker 2: as happy if I lived at home. Like for me,
- 25:53Speaker 2: my mental health needs to come first, and I don't
- 25:56Speaker 2: think and I'm a homebody as well, I don't think
- 25:58Speaker 2: it would be depending on fine dining and being able
- 26:01Speaker 2: to eat out and enjoy it.
- 26:02Speaker 4: Like, I don't know what was the consensus of the.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Group, what did everybody else stay.
- 26:06Speaker 3: So lots of people are saying I've actually done both.
- 26:10Speaker 3: And there was people that said, I'm living where I
- 26:13Speaker 3: hate to like can afford where I love and things
- 26:16Speaker 3: like that, but most people said the location that you
- 26:19Speaker 3: love and to kind of live on, you know, a
- 26:23Speaker 3: bit of a leaner budget, I'm guessing, would be the
- 26:25Speaker 3: sacrifice that most people would make. And I have to agree,
- 26:28Speaker 3: I just the same thing that you said, Victoria. I
- 26:31Speaker 3: just am so nourished by my location. And if I'm
- 26:35Speaker 3: not living in a place where I feel like I
- 26:37Speaker 3: can relax or feel happy, or I'm not near my mates.
- 26:40Speaker 3: You know, my boyfriend Torbes and I live right around
- 26:43Speaker 3: the corner from Ruyn and Bridget you know, our friends
- 26:44Speaker 3: of ours just move back to New Zealand, but they
- 26:46Speaker 3: lived just around the corner from us before that, and
- 26:49Speaker 3: I loved it because you know, you're just around them,
- 26:52Speaker 3: you can pop in. But it's interesting because people were like, actually,
- 26:55Speaker 3: it's a it's a really important question, I think now
- 26:58Speaker 3: that the narrative is changing around and taking care of
- 27:01Speaker 3: your mental health, and I just thought it was a
- 27:04Speaker 3: really great question to pose to you guys, because obviously
- 27:08Speaker 3: we're like all about being financially savvy and that kind
- 27:11Speaker 3: of thing, but actually if what you need to do
- 27:14Speaker 3: for you isn't maybe the best long term financial choice.
- 27:18Speaker 2: I think that's really important to note as well. And
- 27:21Speaker 2: you guys know that I purchased a property in late
- 27:24Speaker 2: twenty twenty, so that was all very exciting and a
- 27:27Speaker 2: goal that we've been working towards for a really long time.
- 27:30Speaker 2: That as part of that, you know, I was having
- 27:33Speaker 2: good conversations with my partner about what we could afford,
- 27:36Speaker 2: and we absolutely could afford something bigger and better and
- 27:39Speaker 2: newer and everything further out, but that's not what we wanted.
- 27:44Speaker 2: We knew that our lifestyle would change. We knew the
- 27:47Speaker 2: house we were going to purchase was definitely not going
- 27:49Speaker 2: to be as big.
- 27:49Speaker 4: We knew we'd have to have a red splash back if.
- 27:51Speaker 2: This is where we yeah, right, And it's kind of
- 27:53Speaker 2: like a running joke in our friends that our kitchen's
- 27:55Speaker 2: like super ugly, but I'm so great lack No, I mean,
- 27:59Speaker 2: the rest of it's not great. You haven't seen it
- 28:01Speaker 2: that close, but seriously, like, I'm so grateful for it,
- 28:04Speaker 2: and I adore everything about the house we have because
- 28:06Speaker 2: it affords me the lifestyle I want to live, not
- 28:09Speaker 2: necessarily the life whereas I've got a couple of girlfriends
- 28:13Speaker 2: they've moved far further out so that they can have
- 28:16Speaker 2: really big, beautiful homes, and like, I'll never have a
- 28:18Speaker 2: home that big because I'll never be able to afford it.
- 28:21Speaker 2: And that's okay, and I'm totally fine with that, but
- 28:24Speaker 2: that's just me going, Hey, i'd really like to be
- 28:26Speaker 2: able to get to work in ten and fifteen minutes.
- 28:28Speaker 2: I don't want to spend time in traffic like that
- 28:31Speaker 2: would really upset me. And I feel like that weighs
- 28:33Speaker 2: really heavily on me because I've done it before and
- 28:35Speaker 2: I know that that's not for me, and my partner
- 28:38Speaker 2: knows the same.
- 28:39Speaker 4: Now that you've put it in that context, I've actually
- 28:41Speaker 4: made this decision because we are looking for a crappy
- 28:43Speaker 4: house closer to town because she's originally I was wearing
- 28:47Speaker 4: out back northern Territory too.
- 28:50Speaker 2: I think has changed from like would you prefer and like,
- 28:54Speaker 2: this is why that question was so hard to conceptualize,
- 28:56Speaker 2: because I thought, Okay, you're saying I can have a
- 28:58Speaker 2: super boogie job and live in New but I'll never
- 29:00Speaker 2: be able to see my family. Is that where we're
- 29:02Speaker 2: going with this? But I think, Yeah, I interpreted in
- 29:07Speaker 2: a different way, and it's kind of like, you know,
- 29:09Speaker 2: maybe we do want the small inner city apartment because
- 29:12Speaker 2: of the lifestyle it affords us, even though that same
- 29:14Speaker 2: rent could get us much further out a big home
- 29:17Speaker 2: that we could live our best life in. But like,
- 29:20Speaker 2: what if you're not a homebody and you go out
- 29:22Speaker 2: all the time and you're exactly like Ryan, Like I
- 29:24Speaker 2: can't imagine you're not eating out. I swear he eats
- 29:27Speaker 2: up most nights.
- 29:28Speaker 4: Yeah, just not a great cook.
- 29:29Speaker 3: But it's no. But it's also like a choice that
- 29:31Speaker 3: you make and that's part of your values, and you
- 29:33Speaker 3: build that into your budget because that's something that you
- 29:36Speaker 3: love to do.
- 29:36Speaker 4: On the record that I don't go out that much,
- 29:38Speaker 4: like a few times a week.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Out during the week. Did he eat out for dinner
- 29:43Speaker 2: on Monday night? Did he eat out for dinner on
- 29:46Speaker 2: Tuesday night?
- 29:47Speaker 3: Yeah? You did? I think you went to Baby Pizza
- 29:49Speaker 3: on Tuesday night?
- 29:49Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, I'll just stop there.
- 29:51Speaker 3: Yeah that's enough.
- 29:53Speaker 4: Are wear very cheap T shirts to pay for nights pizza?
- 29:58Speaker 2: But I like that, and I think that that's what
- 30:00Speaker 2: this podcast in this community is about. Like I love that.
- 30:03Speaker 3: You do that because you know that it's what you.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Want to do, but other people don't, and that's cool,
- 30:09Speaker 2: and we get to learn from you. And then Tony's
- 30:11Speaker 2: values are different, and then my values are different. And
- 30:14Speaker 2: you know, I think that that's what makes this community
- 30:16Speaker 2: so bright and vibrant. It's we kind of don't mind
- 30:19Speaker 2: what you do as long as you're happy. But throughout
- 30:22Speaker 2: the duration of this podcast, we've learned a lot about
- 30:25Speaker 2: other people's values and what they do. And I think
- 30:27Speaker 2: a good example of this is the Fire movement. So
- 30:30Speaker 2: the financial independence retire early and they say, like eighty
- 30:34Speaker 2: percent of their incomes insane. I could never so disappointment,
- 30:37Speaker 2: whereas there.
- 30:38Speaker 4: Are some annoyingly impressive Yeah, and there are.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Some great people in our community who do and are great,
- 30:43Speaker 2: and they're going to be retiring before forty and it's
- 30:46Speaker 2: it's just so impressive. I know that's not going to
- 30:49Speaker 2: work for me because I really do value my lifestyle
- 30:51Speaker 2: and do value the things that make get happy and
- 30:53Speaker 2: nourish me and my partner. And yeah, like, I'm not
- 30:56Speaker 2: going to change that, even though they go, yeah, but Victoria,
- 30:59Speaker 2: you could tire at forty I go, great, that's not
- 31:02Speaker 2: worth it to me.
- 31:02Speaker 4: If people have seen the house to a YouTube video
- 31:05Speaker 4: that Victoria and I did at Victoria's house, what room
- 31:08Speaker 4: was the most commented on, which would also stop you
- 31:11Speaker 4: retiring early? The shoes room.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Oh let's cut this fit out? No, but like, I
- 31:19Speaker 2: do really like shoes. But that's my value. And because
- 31:23Speaker 2: I respect you, guys respect me.
- 31:26Speaker 4: Oh I did, They're all like, well, victoria'said, that's my.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Seriously like, and I think that that's really important as well.
- 31:31Speaker 2: And I'll always be really open and honest about things
- 31:34Speaker 2: and share with you the things that I love because
- 31:36Speaker 2: I'm not some robot who's like, Okay, well, you know
- 31:39Speaker 2: you need to cut back on coffees, Tony because you
- 31:42Speaker 2: could save an extra twelve hundred dollars a year. And
- 31:44Speaker 2: do you know what twelve hundred dollars is going to
- 31:45Speaker 2: be worth when you're sixty five? Like cool? Let me
- 31:48Speaker 2: know that if I saved more, that's what that meant.
- 31:51Speaker 2: And you know, one of the things that we've used
- 31:53Speaker 2: as an example on this podcast before is if you
- 31:56Speaker 2: saved twenty seven dollars fifty a day, ten thousand dollars
- 32:00Speaker 2: in a year, like that's really impressive. But I want
- 32:02Speaker 2: to arm you with those tools and resources so that
- 32:05Speaker 2: then you can apply that to your situation, not so
- 32:08Speaker 2: I can say, okay, cool.
- 32:09Speaker 3: Don't drink coffee anymore.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Don'tdrin coffee anymore. And also, your grocery budget should only
- 32:13Speaker 2: be X and Y and don't spend on this, but
- 32:15Speaker 2: do spend on that?
- 32:16Speaker 3: And how many times have you ordered ob rates? Cut
- 32:18Speaker 3: that out? Yeah, you love getting oberts, do it, but
- 32:21Speaker 3: just think about it and put it into your budget.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Is it a light like this goes back to my
- 32:26Speaker 2: number one thing that I've said since the start of
- 32:29Speaker 2: this podcast. Is it aligned to your values?
- 32:31Speaker 3: Exactly?
- 32:32Speaker 2: Cool? Is it great? Yes, fantastic. I'm not going to
- 32:35Speaker 2: question you any further. If your honor, thank you.
- 32:37Speaker 4: Victoria has rested her case, I.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Rest my case.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Well, then I want to go into our wins and
- 32:43Speaker 3: go why do.
- 32:44Speaker 2: You have to bring it down like that? Sorry, let's
- 32:46Speaker 2: start with Ryan because he's been awfully quiet over there.
- 32:49Speaker 4: I got too, Mini wins.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Mini wins, Oh my gosh, can we start doing that?
- 32:53Speaker 2: Mini WANs?
- 32:54Speaker 4: First of all, on Becoming a God in Central Florida.
- 32:57Speaker 4: That's the name of a show on Netflix. O.
- 32:59Speaker 3: Yep, you've been banging.
- 33:00Speaker 4: It's got Kristen Kirston Dunst Kristen Kurston Dunst, and it's
- 33:03Speaker 4: about like a pyramid scheme in an all. It's a
- 33:08Speaker 4: dark comedy. It's hilarious, but it's also fascinating to see
- 33:12Speaker 4: like kind of the insides of the pyramid schemes back
- 33:14Speaker 4: in Florida and the eighties and stuff. Yeah, it's juicy.
- 33:17Speaker 2: So there's such a good podcast called The Dream. I
- 33:20Speaker 2: don't know if you listened to that as well. Jim
- 33:22Speaker 2: Duggan recommended it when he was in the studio.
- 33:24Speaker 4: Would a flex that class very reliable and considering a
- 33:28Speaker 4: lot of people in the country are lockdown. If you've
- 33:30Speaker 4: got time, go and check that because it is actually
- 33:32Speaker 4: quite interesting as well as hilarious.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Tony and I will watch it, maybe together, maybe independently.
- 33:37Speaker 2: We'll report back in next Friday Drinks episode.
- 33:39Speaker 4: My other mini win and this is like a really
- 33:42Speaker 4: lame adulting kind of win.
- 33:44Speaker 3: No, no, I love that.
- 33:45Speaker 2: There's no such thing as lame adulting wins.
- 33:48Speaker 4: By the way, my wife Rigid and I got three
- 33:50Speaker 4: hundred dollars off a washer dryer.
- 33:53Speaker 5: We got a washing machine and lame and guess what
- 33:59Speaker 5: they threw in for a little thing so you can
- 34:02Speaker 5: stack them on top of each other, so it's like
- 34:03Speaker 5: a little kit.
- 34:04Speaker 4: So it like sits in like lego, like it clips
- 34:06Speaker 4: into it.
- 34:07Speaker 3: You don't have to mount them or anything. They're literally
- 34:09Speaker 3: just like in there together.
- 34:10Speaker 4: Yeah, and they sit on and the thing pulls out
- 34:13Speaker 4: and you can use it as a little bench.
- 34:14Speaker 3: How sad that we're excited by that.
- 34:16Speaker 2: That's actually real cool.
- 34:17Speaker 4: Yeah. See if you guys a change a tune. And
- 34:19Speaker 4: at first I was like, am I really spending my
- 34:20Speaker 4: Saturday going to buy this? And then I got home,
- 34:22Speaker 4: I was like, we've got the extra features, We've got
- 34:24Speaker 4: this thing. This guy's going to bring it over, have
- 34:26Speaker 4: to make room. So I was really excited to get
- 34:28Speaker 4: a couple of hundred bucks off. And just as a
- 34:30Speaker 4: tip always with that kind of stuff, you just say,
- 34:33Speaker 4: oh can you do it for cheaper?
- 34:34Speaker 2: Oh yeah, my best price?
- 34:36Speaker 4: Yeah, And we probably did that a few times and
- 34:38Speaker 4: then they kind of I'll just get on the computer
- 34:40Speaker 4: and oh maybe we can chuck fifty off that And
- 34:42Speaker 4: I go, oh, can you throw in that extra thing included? Yeah?
- 34:44Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I guess.
- 34:45Speaker 3: You're a real grown up. When you're I can't do that,
- 34:48Speaker 3: I do it.
- 34:49Speaker 2: I can't do that, cringing, I can't. It gives me
- 34:52Speaker 2: the he be GBI's like, I just I wish I
- 34:54Speaker 2: could just be nice just give him the money. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 34:58Speaker 2: But do you know what my favorite tip there is,
- 35:00Speaker 2: if you're in a store making a big purchasing decision,
- 35:03Speaker 2: like a washer dryer or whatever it is, google the
- 35:07Speaker 2: code of the item. I'm not saying by it from
- 35:10Speaker 2: somewhere else, but get the cheapest one and be like, oh, hey,
- 35:13Speaker 2: do you price match online?
- 35:15Speaker 4: It's this?
- 35:15Speaker 2: Well yeah, and then the ninety nine point nine five
- 35:18Speaker 2: percent of the time they'll go, yeah, no problems, and
- 35:20Speaker 2: they'll give you the cheapest version of it for the
- 35:22Speaker 2: cheapest price in.
- 35:23Speaker 4: Store was actually a bit more than online. So Bridge
- 35:26Speaker 4: got her phone out and said, or online it says this,
- 35:28Speaker 4: Oh that's sassy. Yeah, that's some powerplays going on.
- 35:31Speaker 2: So I love that.
- 35:32Speaker 4: I love that what you got?
- 35:33Speaker 2: All right? So it was my mum's birthday last week,
- 35:36Speaker 2: having birthday, no happy birthday, Judice, and instead of going
- 35:41Speaker 2: so we went out for lunch. But like usually birthdays
- 35:44Speaker 2: in our family add up not to like not hectically,
- 35:47Speaker 2: but it's one of those things where you know, my
- 35:49Speaker 2: sister has a partner, I've got a partner. We're all
- 35:51Speaker 2: adults now, so like we're never around at the same time.
- 35:54Speaker 2: So we're planning on doing a Sunday lunch, but I
- 35:57Speaker 2: was going down the night before to stay at my parents' place.
- 36:00Speaker 2: If we go out for dinner or get takeaway, that's
- 36:01Speaker 2: going to be so expensive. So I cooked dinner for
- 36:05Speaker 2: my parents before we left, and then I took it
- 36:08Speaker 2: down to my parents play yeah, and I made this
- 36:11Speaker 2: little picnic and we had this like I bought a
- 36:13Speaker 2: nice bottle of wine and I like served them dinner
- 36:16Speaker 2: that I had already cooked at my house so there
- 36:18Speaker 2: was no mess, and you know, we played board games
- 36:20Speaker 2: and it was really lame base so grown up, yeah
- 36:22Speaker 2: it was, but yeah, but it was really exciting because one,
- 36:29Speaker 2: I got to cook something and I love cooking. But two,
- 36:32Speaker 2: we didn't have to go out or order takeaway, and
- 36:34Speaker 2: I knew exactly what we were getting because I'm a
- 36:36Speaker 2: control freak. And it was just so nice to turn
- 36:38Speaker 2: up and be like, oh, I've cooked dinner, and like
- 36:40Speaker 2: they were super excited about.
- 36:41Speaker 3: It too, because it was like a nice surprise. Oh
- 36:44Speaker 3: that's a great a great win and a great gift
- 36:46Speaker 3: for your mum as well, Like she would have loved that.
- 36:48Speaker 2: I think they did. And we played Round Me Club anyway.
- 36:51Speaker 2: I like that game. My parents liked that game. I'm
- 36:53Speaker 2: really lame, Tony. Can you please save this?
- 36:56Speaker 3: Oh I don't know if I can. I've got like
- 36:58Speaker 3: a money confession, but life win.
- 37:01Speaker 2: So a life win that because I went to my
- 37:03Speaker 2: parents place. My mum said, I'm getting heaps of lemons,
- 37:06Speaker 2: getting heaps of lemons because she sent heaps home for you.
- 37:08Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's that's my money win this week. Judy's
- 37:11Speaker 3: given me a lot of lemons. No, So, my favorite
- 37:15Speaker 3: artist in the.
- 37:15Speaker 4: World is Lord.
- 37:17Speaker 2: It is I love Lord so.
- 37:18Speaker 3: Much every year on Spotify, I mean the top two
- 37:21Speaker 3: percent of law listeners. Well really, yeah, I love Lord.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Can we get Lord on a money diary? Like can
- 37:28Speaker 2: we manifest that Jessica Richie's style and try and manifest
- 37:32Speaker 2: Lord onto our podcast?
- 37:34Speaker 3: I would do anything, put a call out if she said,
- 37:37Speaker 3: all right, I'll do it. If Tony gets Lord tattooed
- 37:40Speaker 3: on her body, I would do it.
- 37:41Speaker 2: Like that is a big.
- 37:43Speaker 4: Call is angling? For work to pay for a tattoo. Yeah.
- 37:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I really want to get a Lord tattooed. No,
- 37:47Speaker 3: she listens to the podcast, Well maybe she does listen
- 37:50Speaker 3: to it all listening.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Do you know DJ Tiger Lily listens to the podcast.
- 37:54Speaker 2: We obviously had her on. You had her on.
- 37:56Speaker 3: Cush is an og I know? Which is so cool?
- 37:58Speaker 2: People do cool? No, you're not cool. Where the people
- 38:01Speaker 2: that listen are cool.
- 38:02Speaker 3: Every person that listens is cool.
- 38:04Speaker 4: She's had in the same chair you're sitting in town.
- 38:06Speaker 3: Hello, she did anyway, So I love Lord. And about
- 38:11Speaker 3: two weeks ago, when she announced she was going on tour,
- 38:13Speaker 3: I opened all the tabs up on my laptop so
- 38:15Speaker 3: that I could try and get tickets. I had three
- 38:19Speaker 3: logins to three different pre sales that I was going
- 38:22Speaker 3: to try and access, and I got some tickets. So
- 38:25Speaker 3: money confession because it was two hundred dollars like two
- 38:28Speaker 3: tickets or whatever.
- 38:30Speaker 2: But like SLF care confession, I'm not a confession at all.
- 38:33Speaker 2: It's l week because you would have had that in
- 38:35Speaker 2: your budget.
- 38:35Speaker 3: Because I loved it and I was really excited, And
- 38:37Speaker 3: as soon as she announced it, I was like, yes,
- 38:39Speaker 3: we are going to that and that to my boyfriend
- 38:42Speaker 3: and we're going.
- 38:43Speaker 2: And low key the whole team's excited about it because
- 38:46Speaker 2: we're going to stop hearing about it.
- 38:48Speaker 3: Yeah, because now I can stop being like, guys, don't
- 38:50Speaker 3: forget to remind me that at ten to ten, I've
- 38:52Speaker 3: got to buy the tickets a lord, because it's going
- 38:53Speaker 3: to go on.
- 38:54Speaker 2: So yeah, that's exactly what's been happening in this week.
- 38:57Speaker 2: And with that, I think that that is more than
- 39:00Speaker 2: But just before we head off, we'd like to acknowledge
- 39:02Speaker 2: and pay respect to Australia's Aboriginal and Torrest Straight islander peoples.
- 39:06Speaker 2: They're the traditional custodians at the lands, the waterways and
- 39:09Speaker 2: the skies all across Australia. We thank you for sharing
- 39:12Speaker 2: and for caring for the land on which we are
- 39:14Speaker 2: able to learn. We pay our respects to elders past
- 39:17Speaker 2: and present, and we share our friendship and our kindness.
- 39:20Speaker 3: The advice shared on She's on the Money is generally
- 39:22Speaker 3: nature and does not consider your individual circumstances. She's on
- 39:26Speaker 3: the Money exists purely for educational purposes and should not
- 39:29Speaker 3: be relied upon to make an investment or financial decision.
- 39:32Speaker 3: And we promise Victoria Divine is an authorized representative of
- 39:35Speaker 3: Australia Pacific Funds Management Proprietary Limited ABN three four one
- 39:39Speaker 3: three two four six three two five seven AFSL three
- 39:43Speaker 3: three eight nine one five one.
- 39:44Speaker 4: And if you don't like getting your financial information in
- 39:47Speaker 4: an audio form, and perhaps like the written form, why
- 39:50Speaker 4: wouldn't you buy the book? The highest selling book in
- 39:53Speaker 4: Australia over the last few weeks. It's called She's on
- 39:56Speaker 4: the Money. It's by Victoria Divine. It's in all good
- 39:58Speaker 4: bookstores some of the crap to, or you can buy it.
- 40:01Speaker 2: Online, yea, some of the crap ones to. Yeah, yeah,
- 40:06Speaker 2: they do, they do. I don't think there's such things
- 40:08Speaker 2: as a crap bookstore.
- 40:09Speaker 3: Ryan, not if they're selling your book.
- 40:12Speaker 2: I'll see you next week, guys,
