- 0:00Today's episode is brought to you by pretending not to notice something while
- 0:04actually noticing everything.
- 0:06If a camera isn't rolling and an actor has a great scene, did it actually even happen?
- 0:12One of the actors on set yesterday.
- 0:14Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Sarcast. I give you the news and maybe
- 0:18a laugh. I'm Lindsay Wernick and it's April 21st, 2026.
- 0:23In real news, down in South Africa, a safari park owner named Gary Freeman was
- 0:29fatally trampled by an elephant while leading a tour through a private reserve.
- 0:33Freeman was an experienced guide and deeply respected in the wildlife community,
- 0:38and known for his love of elephants.
- 0:40He had reportedly once said he'd rather be killed by an elephant than shoot one.
- 0:45And while the story is tragic, this is an absolutely chilling example of the
- 0:49universe listening a little too closely.
- 0:52I guess you could say he manifested this.
- 0:55Witnesses say when the elephant charged, Freeman tried to stop it but never fired a shot.
- 1:00So in a grim and very literal sense, he stood by his principles to the very end.
- 1:06Officials are now investigating what really happened and determine whether the
- 1:09elephant is a threat to others.
- 1:12It's sad and it's shocking and it's also a reminder to maybe stop making oddly
- 1:17specific declarations out loud. Sometimes life treats every sentence like a
- 1:21legally binding contract.
- 1:23Big news at Apple yesterday. Tim Cook is stepping down as CEO after nearly 15
- 1:29years of running what is essentially the world's most profitable,
- 1:33we-release-the-same-film-but-slightly-shinier operation.
- 1:37He's not disappearing, though. He's moving into an executive chairman role in
- 1:41September, which is corporate for I'm Still Here, just with fewer meetings and more opinions.
- 1:46Taking over is John Ternes, who's Apple's hardware chief right now.
- 1:51He has been at the company since 2001, meaning he has survived approximately
- 1:559,000 Apple keynotes and layoffs and is now being rewarded with the top job.
- 2:01Cook originally took over after Steve Jobs in 2011 and turned Apple into a $4 trillion machine.
- 2:08Profits quadrupled, and the iPhone became a permanent personality trait for half the planet.
- 2:13And Apple mastered the art of making every product feel like a spiritual upgrade,
- 2:17even when it's mostly just a camera bump and a new shade of silver.
- 2:21But the vibe shift here is real, because under Cook, Apple has been steady,
- 2:25extremely rich, and also slightly allergic to risk lately.
- 2:29And now Ternus inherits the throne along with the pressure that comes with it.
- 2:33Apple is still insanely powerful, but the question hanging over this is pretty simple.
- 2:38What's the next thing everyone feels like they need, not just slightly improved?
- 2:42So Cook exits as the guy who scaled the empire to absurd levels,
- 2:46and Ternus walks in as the guy
- 2:47who has to convince the world Apple still knows how to surprise people.
- 2:51No pressure, just, you know, a $4 trillion expectation and an entire population
- 2:56of people who just want to know if they'll need to buy a new charger for the next upgrade.
- 3:00FBI Director Kash Patel is now suing The Atlantic for $250 million.
- 3:06Claiming they published a completely false story about him drinking heavily
- 3:10and never showing up to work.
- 3:12The article is based on anonymous sources inside the FBI and DOJ who describes
- 3:17him as unreliable, sometimes missing meetings, and generally not as present
- 3:21as you'd hope the head of the FBI would be.
- 3:24Patel is denying all of it, obviously, and says the magazine ignored his team's
- 3:28pushback before publishing.
- 3:30He's calling it defamation and says that they crossed the line by running what
- 3:34he claims are fabricated allegations meant to damage his reputation and his job.
- 3:39Legally, this is a steep climb. Because Patel is a public official,
- 3:43he has to prove actual malice, meaning the reporters either knew it was false
- 3:47or seriously didn't care whether it was true.
- 3:50The Atlantic is standing by the reporting and says it will defend itself.
- 3:54So right now, we've got a $250 million lawsuit, anonymous sources,
- 3:58and two sides saying we're right with full conviction. May the best man win.
- 4:03In Lindsay life, this past weekend I was out with some friends and had one of
- 4:08those classic New York moments where the city got way too tiny.
- 4:12Out of all the bars, all the neighborhoods, all the people in the city,
- 4:16two guys from my romantic archives were seated together at the next table over
- 4:21for me and my friends. Nothing dramatic happened.
- 4:24I mean, no drinks were thrown. No one had to flee through the kitchen.
- 4:27But it definitely did feel like there were some hidden cameras around testing me.
- 4:32New York is really magical. 8 million people and somehow your past always gets
- 4:36the reservation next to you.
- 4:38Lindsay Lessons. A lesson by Lindsay. There is no bigger cliffhanger on a TV
- 4:43show than when your laptop dies.
- 4:4511 minutes left of a thriller series. When the guy is in a standoff with the
- 4:50police and you're not sure if he will or won't drop the gun before he shoots everyone.
- 4:54Cooking tip of the day. Cooking directions are more suggestions than rules.
- 4:59Feedback, comments, questions, and age Jewish by looking for a date.
