- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Hello and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 0:18Speaker 2: for millennials who want financial freedom. My name is Victoria Devine.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I'm a financial advisor, a millennial, and a woman who
- 0:25Speaker 2: is wildly passionate about all things finance. In this Money
- 0:28Speaker 2: Darry's episode, you are going to be hearing from a
- 0:31Speaker 2: twenty four year old community member who has more than
- 0:34Speaker 2: one hundred thousand dollars in savings. We're also going to
- 0:37Speaker 2: hear one how she's done it, but two the importance
- 0:40Speaker 2: of having a support system around you and being surrounded
- 0:43Speaker 2: by like minded people. Ryan, what was the email she
- 0:46Speaker 2: sent us this week.
- 0:48Speaker 3: I've recently turned twenty four and I've been working since
- 0:50Speaker 3: I was fifteen years old. I just got my first
- 0:52Speaker 3: corporate job, earning around seventy thousand dollars per year.
- 0:55Speaker 2: That's pretty good corporate job, first.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Union, pretty income. I think I'm pretty deep saving. I've
- 1:00Speaker 3: saved around one hundred and ten thousand dollars.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Oh yeah, just pretty decent.
- 1:04Speaker 3: That's actually ridiculous. That is unbelievable.
- 1:07Speaker 2: But love, though she says, pretty decent.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Well, hang on, it gets worse, worse or better worse.
- 1:12Speaker 3: So that's her saying she's decent at saving, but I'm
- 1:14Speaker 3: actually pretty terrible at being on top of my money
- 1:17Speaker 3: in terms of tracking where it goes each month. I
- 1:19Speaker 3: highly dispute that.
- 1:21Speaker 2: I I'm not gonna lie. Oh I think that the
- 1:23Speaker 2: spoiler here is into her savings.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I would love to buy a property in the
- 1:27Speaker 3: near future, but at the same time, I would also
- 1:29Speaker 3: love to live in the Inner West or the city
- 1:31Speaker 3: in Sydney and live out my hipster dreams, which is
- 1:34Speaker 3: obviously quite expensive.
- 1:36Speaker 2: It is so expensive in Sydney to live in anything.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Well, I'm pretty sure it's a million dollars. Like you know,
- 1:41Speaker 3: there's always these viral stories like for a million dollars
- 1:43Speaker 3: you get this rundown shed. Someone's out, all right. She
- 1:47Speaker 3: currently also has ten thousand dollars invested in ETF, but
- 1:51Speaker 3: at twenty four years old, with one hundred and ten
- 1:53Speaker 3: thousand dollars in.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Savings, I want to know where it came from.
- 1:56Speaker 3: It's unbelievable.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Is that too pervy?
- 1:58Speaker 1: No?
- 1:58Speaker 3: And it's I mean, we love relatable stories, but.
- 2:02Speaker 2: We also love inspirational stories. I've asked to do that.
- 2:06Speaker 3: All right, let's call the twenty four year old with
- 2:08Speaker 3: one hundred grand in savings. Hello, so speaking hello? Is
- 2:19Speaker 3: this the twenty four year old with one hundred thousand
- 2:21Speaker 3: dollars in savings?
- 2:23Speaker 1: It sure is.
- 2:25Speaker 2: How are you going good?
- 2:26Speaker 3: Thanks? It's Ryan here and Victoria is with us as well.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Hi.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Hi, all right, So let's jump straight in. First question
- 2:33Speaker 2: is what has your relationship with money been like in
- 2:36Speaker 2: the past.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I feel like my relationship with money in the past
- 2:39Speaker 1: has been pretty good, and I think I owe that
- 2:42Speaker 1: a lot to my parents in the sense that they're
- 2:45Speaker 1: healthy with building and the foundation of good money and
- 2:48Speaker 1: saving habits. So I was thought up to really not
- 2:52Speaker 1: buy things unless I had the money to pay for
- 2:54Speaker 1: it out right, So my parents' seven years credit cards
- 2:58Speaker 1: or way vible things like that. So even up until
- 3:02Speaker 1: now at twenty four, I've never had a credit card
- 3:04Speaker 1: or units like the buy now, pay you later type services.
- 3:09Speaker 1: And also on top of that growing up as well,
- 3:12Speaker 1: like when it came to treating myself with things like
- 3:15Speaker 1: I don't know, clothes and whatnot, I'd never really buy
- 3:18Speaker 1: anything on myself on sale.
- 3:20Speaker 2: So what do you do for work now? And how
- 3:22Speaker 2: much do you earn?
- 3:23Speaker 1: So I just finished a two year graduate program in
- 3:26Speaker 1: the telecommunications industry at the end of twenty twenty earning
- 3:30Speaker 1: just under seventy thousand dollars a year including super. But
- 3:35Speaker 1: at the beginning of this year, I'm starting a new
- 3:36Speaker 1: role with an annual salary of ninety four thousand a
- 3:40Speaker 1: year including super.
- 3:41Speaker 2: And how much do you have in your bank account
- 3:43Speaker 2: right now?
- 3:44Speaker 1: So in my bank account right now, I have just
- 3:47Speaker 1: under one hundred and twenty thousand dollars.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Wait, twenty four, I am twenty four.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Just what this goos got?
- 3:56Speaker 3: Like?
- 3:56Speaker 1: Ass with my family for most of my life. So yeah,
- 4:00Speaker 1: and they able to save on costs like rent. And yeah,
- 4:02Speaker 1: I've been working since I could work from a legal age,
- 4:05Speaker 1: so yeah, I think that's definitely helped lodge there.
- 4:09Speaker 2: You're like, no, I was, all right, So what is
- 4:13Speaker 2: your attitude towards money and what is your big money goal?
- 4:17Speaker 1: My attitude towards money, Well, I see money as a
- 4:20Speaker 1: tool and honestly an ingredient for a financial independence and freedom.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I really think it's important to save money for a
- 4:27Speaker 1: rainy day and use money to build future wealth. So
- 4:31Speaker 1: I honestly think this needs to be balanced out with
- 4:34Speaker 1: mind just fully spending it to an enables well the
- 4:37Speaker 1: currently to still enjoy life, whether that includes like spending
- 4:41Speaker 1: money on a holiday or maybe a bougie dinner or
- 4:44Speaker 1: something like that. But yeah, with all of that being said,
- 4:46Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie. There's been times where I've caught up.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I've been caught up with comparing myself to my peers
- 4:53Speaker 1: and what they earn and what they have. And I
- 4:55Speaker 1: feel like I'm gradually learning to shift my money mindset
- 4:59Speaker 1: to realize that whatever I'm earning and my digits in
- 5:02Speaker 1: my bank account isn't going to determine whether I'm winning
- 5:06Speaker 1: at life in terms of money goals. I'm completed between two.
- 5:10Speaker 1: One part of me would really like to sit down
- 5:12Speaker 1: my route and purchase the property, so Sydney's property prices
- 5:16Speaker 1: really make my eyes water. And then thee in a
- 5:19Speaker 1: wonderlust in me wants to use a portion of my
- 5:21Speaker 1: savings to go traveling or set up myself to work
- 5:25Speaker 1: out a face for a bit and use the rest
- 5:26Speaker 1: of my savings to build up my shares splash investment portfolio.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Awesome, So what is your attitude towards investing and do
- 5:33Speaker 2: you currently have any investments?
- 5:35Speaker 1: So I just got into investing in the share market
- 5:38Speaker 1: last year, from the encouragement of my family. I've tried
- 5:42Speaker 1: to educate myself on it by reading listening to podcasts
- 5:46Speaker 1: like She's on the Money, and I think watching videos
- 5:51Speaker 1: as well helps me because I'm a bit of a
- 5:53Speaker 1: visual learner. But honestly, right now, I would say I'm
- 5:56Speaker 1: still no expert on it by any means, and I
- 5:59Speaker 1: feel like I don't have a complete and full understanding
- 6:03Speaker 1: of it. So I can see the value in it,
- 6:06Speaker 1: and I feel like that's enough. I've lightly looked at
- 6:09Speaker 1: educating myself in property investments as well, but nowhere near
- 6:12Speaker 1: as much as investing in the share market. But yeah,
- 6:16Speaker 1: my only investment right now is about ten thousand dollars
- 6:21Speaker 1: just in an easier at the moment al so.
- 6:23Speaker 2: You do invest that's quite significant. I hope you're proud
- 6:26Speaker 2: of that. So what debts do you currently have?
- 6:30Speaker 1: I currently the only debt I have at the moment
- 6:33Speaker 1: is thirty two thousand dollars of hex steps from my
- 6:36Speaker 1: university degree. I double checked my number as well, I
- 6:39Speaker 1: like logged into my mind got accounts, like I need.
- 6:41Speaker 2: A double check. It's so good. And what would you
- 6:44Speaker 2: say is your best money habit.
- 6:47Speaker 1: I think as I've gotten older, I've become a bit
- 6:50Speaker 1: better at being a conscious sender and really thinking about
- 6:55Speaker 1: whether I really need something rather than just buying stuff
- 6:59Speaker 1: because it's cheap. I'm not perfect by any means, and
- 7:02Speaker 1: I still have the odds slip upstone. I think I
- 7:05Speaker 1: love a came up bargain as much as the next person.
- 7:08Speaker 1: But I think continually asking myself the question about whether
- 7:11Speaker 1: buying this thing is going to make me a happier
- 7:14Speaker 1: person and whether it's going to add value into my
- 7:16Speaker 1: life has helped me with building good money habits. And
- 7:20Speaker 1: also I think another room helped me was watching the
- 7:23Speaker 1: Minimalism documentary series on Netflix. That's really helped me really
- 7:28Speaker 1: re evaluate whether helped me reevaluate my perspective on buying.
- 7:33Speaker 3: They've just released a new documentary. Have you seen the
- 7:36Speaker 3: new one?
- 7:36Speaker 1: Yes, I just watched it, not last night or the
- 7:39Speaker 1: night before.
- 7:40Speaker 3: And yeah, all right, you are a Well there's the
- 7:42Speaker 3: original documentary about minimalism.
- 7:45Speaker 2: I've watched that.
- 7:45Speaker 3: So they brought out a new one like just last week,
- 7:48Speaker 3: like an updated version. I get, well, well, our money dies.
- 7:51Speaker 3: You probably know more than me. What is the new
- 7:53Speaker 3: one about.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Well, I felt like the new one was pretty It
- 7:58Speaker 1: wasn't it was that was tell me a little bit
- 8:00Speaker 1: more story telling around buying stuff like here like not
- 8:07Speaker 1: needing to buy so much stuff is still very much
- 8:09Speaker 1: the core message as they were communicating in the documentary
- 8:12Speaker 1: that there wasn't it wasn't anything groundbreaking on you. But
- 8:15Speaker 1: I think it's nice to kind of I guess just
- 8:17Speaker 1: reinforce that every now and again. So yeah, it was
- 8:21Speaker 1: really good.
- 8:22Speaker 3: I enjoyed it still, so you know, and she's on
- 8:26Speaker 3: the movie review will be out later.
- 8:28Speaker 1: This love that.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I'm not mad about that. So on the flip side
- 8:33Speaker 2: of that, what would you say is your worst money habit?
- 8:35Speaker 1: I would say my worst money habit is that I
- 8:38Speaker 1: don't really keep track of my cash flow in a
- 8:42Speaker 1: regimented way at all, to be honest. So, for example,
- 8:46Speaker 1: if you asked me how much I spent on eating out,
- 8:49Speaker 1: gifts and groceries in the month of December, I don't
- 8:52Speaker 1: think I could tell you at all. Or if you
- 8:54Speaker 1: ask me the percentage of my income that I saved
- 8:57Speaker 1: us just spending around those categories, I've having no idea.
- 9:00Speaker 1: I remember there was this great quote and I can't
- 9:03Speaker 1: remember I either had it on unless she's on the
- 9:05Speaker 1: Money podcast from maybe somewhere else, But there was something
- 9:08Speaker 1: along the lines of whatever, is it being tracked? Is
- 9:10Speaker 1: it being managed? And I just remember hearing that and
- 9:13Speaker 1: continuing relation to me that doesn't sound like something.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I'm sorry, like I'm sorry, not sorry. But at the
- 9:21Speaker 2: same time, I think it's a good thing to kind
- 9:24Speaker 2: of have a check in about, because it does sound
- 9:25Speaker 2: like you've got an epic amount of savings. But to
- 9:28Speaker 2: be more realistic, like, yes, not everyone can save one
- 9:31Speaker 2: hundred thousand dollars, but just because you've saved a hundred
- 9:33Speaker 2: thousand dollars doesn't mean you're absolute legend at money in
- 9:37Speaker 2: cashlow and budgeting always. But hey, I was saying mister
- 9:41Speaker 2: Ryan before about your money diary that I'm pretty sure
- 9:44Speaker 2: I know where all your money is going, and it's
- 9:46Speaker 2: asked right into savings, my friend. Yeah, So if we
- 9:51Speaker 2: forced you to give yourself a grade, what would you
- 9:53Speaker 2: grade yourself?
- 9:55Speaker 1: If I had to give myself a grade, I'd probably
- 9:58Speaker 1: say bebe plus. I feel like I have some good
- 10:04Speaker 1: money habits in the form of being a conscious spender
- 10:06Speaker 1: and just saving money in general, because I do with
- 10:09Speaker 1: a pretty frugal lifestyle. But I know I definitely have
- 10:14Speaker 1: some areas of improvement in terms of cash flow management
- 10:18Speaker 1: and also top ups to my investment portfolio as well,
- 10:21Speaker 1: and turning that investment side of things into a money
- 10:24Speaker 1: habit rather than having an ad hop type of approach
- 10:27Speaker 1: to it.
- 10:28Speaker 2: I like that, and then like that your justification is
- 10:30Speaker 2: a quiet sound. But Ryan and I looking at each
- 10:32Speaker 2: other across the desk in a twenty four year old
- 10:34Speaker 2: who saved one hundred thousand dollars one hundred and twenty
- 10:36Speaker 2: thousand dollars and has Team K invested, reading themselves as
- 10:41Speaker 2: a B plus, I'm not.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Gonna lieb people up the wrong way.
- 10:44Speaker 2: That the wrong way, but that is okay. Everybody is different,
- 10:48Speaker 2: and I think that, you know what, like at the
- 10:50Speaker 2: same time as people being like, oh my gosh, no,
- 10:52Speaker 2: she'd be an a like you've got things that you
- 10:54Speaker 2: want to change personally, and like we could never put
- 10:57Speaker 2: a grade on you ourselves. So Ryan, just before we
- 11:02Speaker 2: head into having a really great conversation with you about
- 11:05Speaker 2: your money diary, we will just slip in a little
- 11:08Speaker 2: word from our sponsors.
- 11:15Speaker 3: We've just heard details from the twenty four year old
- 11:18Speaker 3: with one hundred thousand dollars in savings, and it's actually
- 11:20Speaker 3: one hundred thousand dollars plus in savings one hundred and twenty.
- 11:23Speaker 2: It's like one hundred and twenty and then a ten
- 11:25Speaker 2: thousand dollars.
- 11:26Speaker 3: How often do you do you check it every day?
- 11:28Speaker 3: If I had that much money in the bank, I
- 11:29Speaker 3: would look at it every day. Do you look at
- 11:31Speaker 3: it that often?
- 11:32Speaker 1: I do not look at it that often. If I
- 11:34Speaker 1: need to transfer money from my life's savings accounts my
- 11:37Speaker 1: every day. So that's probably the only Honday I really
- 11:40Speaker 1: kind of see it. Other than that, I just believe
- 11:42Speaker 1: it there.
- 11:43Speaker 3: So I'm curious to know, and I'll get these thoughts
- 11:46Speaker 3: as well.
- 11:46Speaker 2: I've got so many questions.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Yeah, with one hundred and twenty thousand dollars in savings,
- 11:51Speaker 3: and obviously at the moment the interest rates aren't that high,
- 11:54Speaker 3: have you considered moving that money into investments or other
- 11:58Speaker 3: areas of your life or why is it that it's
- 12:00Speaker 3: just sitting there in the savings account.
- 12:02Speaker 1: So I've been looking at purchasing my first property. Actually
- 12:07Speaker 1: I went to a house inspection last Saturday and an
- 12:09Speaker 1: apartment infection. So something I'm interested in doing getting into
- 12:14Speaker 1: purchasing my first property, is that they're at the same time.
- 12:18Speaker 1: I think it's just because it's such a big purchase.
- 12:21Speaker 1: I'm really I guess I'll be apprehensive about kind of
- 12:25Speaker 1: laying that much down even for a deposit for a
- 12:28Speaker 1: piece of property, and I feel like it's so daunting,
- 12:31Speaker 1: and I feel like, as well, I still have so
- 12:33Speaker 1: much more to learn, and I know I'll never get
- 12:35Speaker 1: to that perfect level and full complete understanding. But I
- 12:38Speaker 1: think it's because it's such a big ticket purchase.
- 12:41Speaker 2: But I am seeing what's on the market. I like that.
- 12:46Speaker 2: So can you just be like, really pervy, how much
- 12:50Speaker 2: are you saving every week? What's your take on savings?
- 12:54Speaker 2: And how did you, at twenty four get to one
- 12:56Speaker 2: hundred and twenty thousand dollars in a savings account?
- 12:59Speaker 1: To be honest, I have no idea how much I've
- 13:01Speaker 1: put away in terms of savings each week after I
- 13:05Speaker 1: take out all my accepts and things like that, because
- 13:08Speaker 1: I still live at home and sify. My parents do
- 13:12Speaker 1: buy the groceries and things like that. So I'd say
- 13:15Speaker 1: I'm lucky to sense that my expenses are pretty minimal,
- 13:19Speaker 1: and I definitely acknowledge how privileged I am in that sense,
- 13:25Speaker 1: and I think on top of that, I live generally
- 13:28Speaker 1: a pretty frugal lifestyle as well, Like I don't, I don't.
- 13:32Speaker 1: I'm not too flashy when it comes to clothes and
- 13:35Speaker 1: bags and whatnot, even with things that I can makeup
- 13:39Speaker 1: and skincare and whatnot, Like I never wear makeup, so
- 13:42Speaker 1: I think that's one big expense that I don't have
- 13:45Speaker 1: to pay for on a regular basis. Skincare, I keep
- 13:48Speaker 1: it pretty basic, use a cleanser and a moisturizer and
- 13:52Speaker 1: that's pretty much it. And then in terms of even
- 13:57Speaker 1: they having no holidays as well as helped with saving
- 14:00Speaker 1: money because I can't know we go anywhere.
- 14:02Speaker 3: A lot of people have found out with COVID that
- 14:04Speaker 3: it's been forced savings and they've actually ended up a
- 14:07Speaker 3: lot better off than they might have absolutely.
- 14:09Speaker 1: And I think, yeah, that's definitely helped my group of
- 14:12Speaker 1: friends as well. We're pretty low key when it comes
- 14:14Speaker 1: to hanging out, like we're not. We don't do anything
- 14:17Speaker 1: super flash, like we might go out for dinners and
- 14:20Speaker 1: things like that, but other than that, we find quality
- 14:23Speaker 1: time just spent just hanging out of someone's apartment or
- 14:26Speaker 1: something like that, or they're flat.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Well you're hanging out of a friend's house right now, Yeah,
- 14:30Speaker 3: pretty much.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Yeah, So we don't really go up like we do
- 14:33Speaker 1: go out occasionally to fell thems, you celebrate and just
- 14:35Speaker 1: treat ourselves. But in terms of spending cool, we do
- 14:38Speaker 1: time together just hanging out at someone's places all we need.
- 14:41Speaker 1: I definitely knowledged sometimes you know, if you your friends
- 14:43Speaker 1: doom with a bougie lifestyle, you do feel like you
- 14:45Speaker 1: need to keep up with the Joneses a little bit.
- 14:48Speaker 1: So yeah, I think I'm fortunate that. Yeah, my friend
- 14:50Speaker 1: group with we're a pretty chill, low key bunch, and
- 14:54Speaker 1: I think that's helped her as well.
- 14:56Speaker 3: With savings, Victoria, how much do you think you've spent
- 14:59Speaker 3: on beauty, makeup, skincare in your life?
- 15:03Speaker 2: I agreed to do a podcast not to be personally
- 15:06Speaker 2: victimized by Ryan john Well.
- 15:08Speaker 3: I just find a lot of and it's such a
- 15:10Speaker 3: do thing to say, but a lot of people spend
- 15:12Speaker 3: like it's a really expensive, crazy industry.
- 15:14Speaker 2: I'm not gonna lie. I spend a lot on skincare
- 15:16Speaker 2: as someone who had acne as a teenager and literally
- 15:20Speaker 2: till I was like twenty six or twenty seven. Skincare
- 15:23Speaker 2: has always been something I've spent a lot of money on,
- 15:25Speaker 2: So I think that it's naive of me to say, like, oh,
- 15:28Speaker 2: everyone can save the same, because genuinely, my confidence was
- 15:32Speaker 2: based on the skincare I would purchase because I just
- 15:35Speaker 2: feel so much better if I didn't, you know, have
- 15:37Speaker 2: the acne that was there. Yeah, so I think it's
- 15:39Speaker 2: I think it's important to acknowledge that. But also I
- 15:42Speaker 2: think what I'm hearing from you as well is that
- 15:45Speaker 2: you're surrounded by like minded people and that actually helps
- 15:49Speaker 2: so much to be on the same page and have
- 15:51Speaker 2: good savings habits. Would you say that your friends are
- 15:54Speaker 2: you know, similar in when it comes to saving.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it definitely helps being strounded by like
- 15:59Speaker 1: minded people and in terms of savings habits and things
- 16:02Speaker 1: like that. Yeah, I think I think my friends are
- 16:04Speaker 1: pretty good at saving based from what I know. At least,
- 16:08Speaker 1: I've never seen my friends go nuts on spending crazy
- 16:12Speaker 1: amounts of cash on really frivolous things all the time.
- 16:17Speaker 3: What I loved is when you said, when you're considering
- 16:19Speaker 3: a purchase, you think to yourself, will purchasing this make
- 16:23Speaker 3: me happier, and it seems like that's a really cool thing.
- 16:26Speaker 3: It seems like such a simple thing to ask, but
- 16:28Speaker 3: ay be quite powerful. And b I'm guessing it's had
- 16:31Speaker 3: a huge impact on you being able to save as
- 16:33Speaker 3: much as you have.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's I'd say that I've really only
- 16:37Speaker 1: started asking myself that question recently. I think having watched
- 16:43Speaker 1: like a couple of documentaries on industries like fast fashion
- 16:46Speaker 1: and things like that, I really learned that, you know,
- 16:48Speaker 1: sometimes when I do have those cravings, it's just I'm
- 16:51Speaker 1: just really after a bit of a dopamine hit, right,
- 16:54Speaker 1: and that I don't need to buy stuff to fulfill
- 16:57Speaker 1: that void. Back and think, oh, even if I had
- 17:01Speaker 1: bought that dress, I don't think, you know, I would
- 17:03Speaker 1: have really enjoyed it. Probably would in the first way,
- 17:05Speaker 1: but then afterwards it's a bit like, oh, you know,
- 17:08Speaker 1: kind of get over it a little bit. That's true.
- 17:11Speaker 2: That is so so true, And I think that level
- 17:13Speaker 2: of introspection is something really rare in someone so young.
- 17:17Speaker 2: I know, when I was twenty four, I wasn't thinking
- 17:19Speaker 2: like is this purchase going to make me happier? Am
- 17:21Speaker 2: I doing the right thing for me? Like? What are
- 17:23Speaker 2: my goals. Like, I wasn't thinking that way at all,
- 17:25Speaker 2: So when I meet people who do think that way,
- 17:28Speaker 2: I'm always like, Wow, how cool would have been if
- 17:30Speaker 2: I did that when I was younger? At the same
- 17:32Speaker 2: time as knowing that my money story is my money
- 17:34Speaker 2: story and like, I'm just on my own journey, So
- 17:36Speaker 2: that's actually awesome. Do you think that growing up? Did
- 17:39Speaker 2: your parents teach you that or is that something that
- 17:42Speaker 2: you just have always had ingrained in you, Like my.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Parents never really taught me, but I think just watching
- 17:48Speaker 1: them and being around them and seeing how they spend
- 17:51Speaker 1: their money has definitely influenced me. They haven't directly influenced me,
- 17:56Speaker 1: but it's more so in an indirect way.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Yeah, that's really cool. Growing up, were they just having
- 18:01Speaker 2: money conversations around the dinner table or was it something
- 18:04Speaker 2: a bit more hush hush? Is that how you've become
- 18:07Speaker 2: so open with it.
- 18:08Speaker 1: We didn't really have open conversations or about it around
- 18:11Speaker 1: the dinner table. It wasn't hush hush either. I'd say
- 18:16Speaker 1: I'm pretty open about talking about my finances to my
- 18:20Speaker 1: family and my really close friends. I think it's important
- 18:23Speaker 1: to help one another, and it helps to talk about it,
- 18:26Speaker 1: even like when it comes to work and things like that,
- 18:28Speaker 1: to know how much rocker you should be asking for
- 18:32Speaker 1: in terms of salary and things like that. And also
- 18:34Speaker 1: it's a good way to educate yourself and learn from
- 18:37Speaker 1: other people as well. It's never about bragging or anything
- 18:40Speaker 1: like that. That's certainly not my objective of being open
- 18:44Speaker 1: about it at all, but I think, yeah, it's definitely
- 18:46Speaker 1: just that sharing of information.
- 18:49Speaker 3: Or knowledge is power when you're trying to exactly employer
- 18:53Speaker 3: or something like that. Yeah, question you mentioned buying a house.
- 18:56Speaker 3: We read that you wanted to leave your hipster dreams
- 18:59Speaker 3: and live in the Inner West of Sydney. How much
- 19:03Speaker 3: and this isn't a knowledge question but just a curiosity
- 19:06Speaker 3: because we don't live in Sydney. How much is it
- 19:09Speaker 3: for a smallish two bedroom, you know, in Inverticoma's first
- 19:13Speaker 3: home in the Inner West in Sydney.
- 19:16Speaker 1: So most of the properties that I've kind of looked
- 19:19Speaker 1: at in the Inner West properly around about seven hundred
- 19:23Speaker 1: thousand dollars and upwards.
- 19:25Speaker 3: And what do you get at what do you get
- 19:27Speaker 3: for seven hundred?
- 19:29Speaker 1: Yeah, So most of the properties that I've looked at,
- 19:31Speaker 1: which are around seven hundred thousand, two bedrooms, one bathroom
- 19:36Speaker 1: and one car park. And they're around yeah, so anywhere
- 19:41Speaker 1: along I guess the in West train line as we
- 19:44Speaker 1: call it. So yeah, it's it's you know. I was
- 19:52Speaker 1: looking at property prices in Melbourne because my wife has
- 19:55Speaker 1: an office in Melbourne as well, and I was just like, oh, okay,
- 19:57Speaker 1: there still wateringly high price. I think I think it's
- 20:01Speaker 1: more affordable. Yeah.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Can I tell you something that'll annoy the both of you?
- 20:08Speaker 2: Okay.
- 20:09Speaker 3: The first my first, my first house that I bought
- 20:12Speaker 3: was in Bundury, which was a few hours south of
- 20:15Speaker 3: Perth in Western Australias, where I met my now wife
- 20:17Speaker 3: Bridge It hey, now, why thank you? It's a purchase
- 20:21Speaker 3: on the beach, right on the beach, two bedrooms, one bathroom,
- 20:25Speaker 3: two hundred and ten thousand. Sorry. One of our producers, Jess,
- 20:31Speaker 3: just looked at me and whispered, get.
- 20:36Speaker 2: She's so classy.
- 20:37Speaker 3: I love.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Yeah, she's from the west here in Melbourne.
- 20:41Speaker 3: What's does that hurt your soul to hear money? Dirist?
- 20:45Speaker 1: It's my it does well?
- 20:48Speaker 2: Can you imagine no get in the bin?
- 20:52Speaker 3: Yeh. The stand duty was like an extra three grand
- 20:55Speaker 3: Oh my god. Wow, all right, the is it anything else?
- 21:02Speaker 3: We want to ask our money Dice, because thank you
- 21:04Speaker 3: so much for sharing so much. It's been enlightening and
- 21:06Speaker 3: very impressive.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Yeah, you're fun to talk too, so thank you so
- 21:10Speaker 2: much for coming on. I think you've given us so
- 21:12Speaker 2: much information and it's just been a really interesting story
- 21:16Speaker 2: to hear, especially because you don't exactly know how you've
- 21:19Speaker 2: done it. You've just you know, always been a good saver.
- 21:22Speaker 2: And obviously from little habits, big things grow, and you know,
- 21:26Speaker 2: obviously being surrounded by like minded people is really important
- 21:30Speaker 2: as well. And yeah, I love it.
- 21:32Speaker 1: If they're often talking to you guys. Thank you for
