- 0:00Doing Marriage Well for April 10, 2026 The Final Frontier Sexual Transparency in Your Marriage,
- 0:08Are there parts of your sexual self that you keep behind closed doors,
- 0:11or locked doors, or boarded-up doors?
- 0:14Sex is private and personal. What's more, some of what you did,
- 0:18said, or thought in the past may be embarrassing.
- 0:21So closed doors are absolutely appropriate with everyone other than your spouse.
- 0:25But what about your spouse?
- 0:27Many in the world say what, or who, I did before I met you is none of your business.
- 0:33Everything I've said this week about the rooms in your life applies to sex,
- 0:36including the need to know each other to become fully one.
- 0:40Knowing each other's sexual past helps you understand triggers and broken places.
- 0:44It gives you empathy and makes it easier to accept workarounds.
- 0:48It can help you realize it's not personal and it's not about you.
- 0:52I suggest you share it all. That time you played doctor with another child.
- 0:56Self-discovery during long baths.
- 0:58The emotions and discoveries that came with puberty.
- 1:01How you were exposed to porn and any struggles you had with it.
- 1:05Your first kiss. your first orgasm, and your first everything else.
- 1:09The goal isn't to give every last detail.
- 1:11Rather, you are providing an honest overview of your sexuality.
- 1:15Focus on the impact of the stories rather than a graphic inventory.
- 1:19While some memories are light, others carry the weight of trauma.
- 1:22Talk about your fears, confusion, and embarrassment. If one or both of you were
- 1:26molested, talk about that.
- 1:28My encouragement to be safe applies here. Don't push your spouse,
- 1:32especially about harmful events.
- 1:33Give them a safe place, an empathetic ear, and the time and space they need.
- 1:38Be aware that talking about sexual abuse can make sex difficult or scary here and now.
- 1:43This should be a temporary challenge, and long-term you should experience greater
- 1:47freedom and enjoyment of sex. But be ready for a speed bump.
- 1:50If your spouse is the one with the abuse in their past, be quick to offer support
- 1:54and grace, and be prepared for a temporary interruption in your sex life.
- 1:58Extending no closed doors to your sexuality may be a real stretch.
- 2:02Do think and pray about it before you start. The reward for allowing that access
- 2:06is a better sex life and a better marriage.
- 2:09This is Paul, and open doors make it easier to do sex well.
