The Duty With No Door
Munich has had a short-term rental registration duty since 1 August, with a 50,000 euro fine attached, and no way to register.
Both come from the city's own documents.
The change-of-use by-law of 9 July 2026 creates the duty at section 5a. The council resolved it on 1 July, it was gazetted on 30 July, and it came into force on 1 August. Section 14 makes failing to register before you list, or failing to display the number, an administrative offence carrying up to 50,000 euros.
