- 0:09Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:13access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:16genuine. Issues.
- 0:17Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:20celebrities CE OS and even royalty Adam Cox, these
- 0:25recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's world
- 0:28famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:42Hi, it's Adam here. Would you consider yourself a
- 0:46people pleaser? Maybe you really put other
- 0:50people's needs above your own and not from place of generosity
- 0:55because some people do it because they feel like they have
- 0:58to, that other people's needs are more important than their
- 1:02own. It's their duty to be a bit of a
- 1:05martyr and to sacrifice themselves in order for other
- 1:10people. Now if you can relate to this, I
- 1:12really think you're going to get some value from this hypnosis
- 1:14session because I was working with a client that had been in
- 1:18that way ever since childhood that they would always put their
- 1:23parents needs above their own. And then when they got in a
- 1:26relationship, their husband's needs were always more important
- 1:30than their own and they felt like a second class citizen
- 1:33consistently. But here's the interesting
- 1:36thing. They had a belief that that is
- 1:39all that they are deserving of and therefore they would
- 1:43engineer unconsciously these situations almost like an
- 1:47unconscious contract, where in order to feel worthy or of
- 1:51value, they had to be useful to the world, and that meant
- 1:55putting their needs below other people's needs.
- 1:59Now, this unconscious contract was an important metaphor
- 2:02because this client happened to work in the legal profession and
- 2:06therefore they could. Get the idea?
- 2:08That you can have contracts that are written that are
- 2:11disadvantageous to one of the parties.
- 2:14Now, as a lawyer, she knew that if she had this contract, it
- 2:19would not be a good contract. And therefore we use an element
- 2:23of inner child work to give the younger version of herself a
- 2:27choice of what unconscious contract or what unconscious
- 2:31belief systems she would actually want.
- 2:34And how would that change throughout their life?
- 2:37Now. This isn't involves in a child
- 2:39work, but also forms of timeline therapy.
- 2:42That's very important because what we want to do is not just
- 2:45change how someone thinks about the past, but change how they
- 2:48feel in the present. And we can test that by
- 2:52imagining a future where they don't have to put other people's
- 2:55needs above their own and they can live life on their terms.
- 2:59And it's very different from doing something as an act of
- 3:02kindness and generosity. Because you choose.
- 3:05To rather than feeling like you're obliged to, think of the
- 3:09difference between a martyr and a philanthropist.
- 3:13The martyr has to experience pain or lose something themself
- 3:17in order to help the greater good, whereas A philanthropist
- 3:20has more resources than they need and they're able to help
- 3:24others from a position of strength.
- 3:27And I would encourage you to be more philanthropic in how you
- 3:30think rather than more like a martyr.
- 3:33Because actually a martyr feels like it's noble and it feels
- 3:38like I've sacrificed so much. But actually, it's much better
- 3:42to have the metaphor that you can't pour from an empty cup.
- 3:46And if your cup is overflowing, then you have more than enough
- 3:50to give other people, but only if you choose to, not because
- 3:53you have to. So if you can connect to any of
- 3:55these ideas, you'll get some value from this session.
- 3:59It was created for a very specific client though, so not
- 4:02all of the suggestions might be suitable for you.
- 4:04So just connect with the ones that really do resonate.
- 4:07And if you do want a session built specifically to you and
- 4:11your requirements, there will be a link in the show notes where
- 4:15you can schedule a free consultation call we'll.
- 4:17Have a chat and then who knows, we might.
- 4:18End up working together for now though, find a quiet,
- 4:22comfortable place where you won't be distracted or
- 4:24disturbed. Relax.
- 4:26And enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in and as you
- 4:53breathe in, breathe in quiet, calm, relaxing feeling.
- 5:04And as you exhale, give yourself permission to release.
- 5:11Release any feelings of tension, stress, any worries.
- 5:18That's it. Eyelids feeling heavier and
- 5:24position your body in such a way where relaxation becomes
- 5:29inevitable. That's it.
- 5:36Breathing in, relaxation, exhaling tension, That's it.
- 5:41Just loosen the shoulders, the jaw, That's it.
- 5:46And I wonder if you can use the power of your imagination to
- 5:55imagine a colour that represents worthiness, maybe a bright
- 6:05colour, and imagine breathing in that colour of worthiness.
- 6:14And just imagine as you exhale, any feelings of unworthiness are
- 6:23slowly leaving your body in your outward breath.
- 6:29That's it. And the deeper you breathe, the
- 6:35more relaxed you feel. And the more relaxed you feel,
- 6:41the deeper you breathe. That's in as your body relaxes,
- 6:49your imagination awakens. And I want you to imagine a
- 6:54bookshelf filled with history books.
- 7:01And I want you to imagine in one book, in one chapter, there is a
- 7:08book all about the different types of slaves throughout
- 7:16history, slaves from Asia, Africa, European slaves in Rome.
- 7:34And often a warlord like Genghis Khan would attack a city.
- 7:43And if he was successful, and he almost always was, any survivors
- 7:52were sold into slavery. And I want you to imagine that
- 7:59even back then a contract was formed.
- 8:06The slave became a possession of the owner, and often they would
- 8:15pay for that slave. The slave only had value
- 8:22depending on how useful and productive they were.
- 8:31If the slave was useful, the slave wasn't rewarded.
- 8:37That was simply expected. But if the slave wasn't helpful
- 8:44or useful, the slave was often beaten.
- 8:49They were punished for not being valuable, but they weren't
- 8:55rewarded if they were because of that contract, an implicit
- 9:02contract that says their value is only based on how much value
- 9:13they create. And as you take that in, I want
- 9:22you to get a sense of what that slave would do to survive and to
- 9:29feel safe. They might start to work harder,
- 9:37be more helpful, be more useful. Not because it was appreciated,
- 9:45it just felt safer than the alternative.
- 9:52I want you to get a sense then. Slavery can be a transaction,
- 10:04but it can also be a way of thinking.
- 10:09As you breathe in and breathe out, I want you to imagine
- 10:12floating back to a memory of you as a child.
- 10:20Imagine that you are an invisible observer, just
- 10:30watching the past. Imagine as you breathe in and
- 10:37breathe out, seeing key moments from your childhood, moments of
- 10:49when love and connection was withheld to a child.
- 11:04That's it. Breathe in and breathe out.
- 11:06And as you go back to that memory, just imagine that the
- 11:15withholding of love and connection or affection would
- 11:20feel like punishment if words of encouragement came when they
- 11:29were helpful or useful or did as they were told.
- 11:35As you observe those key moments from that childhood, you could
- 11:40start to see how that child might form a belief.
- 11:45A belief about how they need to be useful to be valuable, and
- 11:59belief about what it takes to be safe or to survive.
- 12:09And I want you to get a sense then as a child, that child had
- 12:15few options. The child did not have autonomy.
- 12:23The child cannot say I don't agree to these presuppositions
- 12:30and suggestions. I reject them.
- 12:35The child starts to believe what they're told.
- 12:41The child accepts their reality as if it's real.
- 12:49And just imagine that child becomes a teenager and then a
- 12:54young adult. And even though they're more
- 12:59capable now, more discerning now, what if that seed of an
- 13:06idea has started to become a tree with deep roots?
- 13:15And I want you to get a sense that this all happened in your
- 13:21childhood. I want you to get a sense that
- 13:28you created an unconscious contract that served you when
- 13:35you were a child. It did represent security,
- 13:42safety. But I want you to think how
- 13:50strange it would be continue doing something as a child, even
- 13:57as an adult. Maybe there was a time as a
- 14:02child that you rode a bike and the bike had training wheels,
- 14:07those stabilizers, and it was useful when you were just three
- 14:13or four or five. But you haven't seen an adult
- 14:20ride a bike with big training wheels because what was useful
- 14:26at one point in your life may not be useful now.
- 14:35I want you to imagine a moment where you were on your own,
- 14:41maybe just five or six years old, and I want you to meet that
- 14:46younger version of you. And I want you to plant you
- 14:52seeds of an idea. Go back to that younger version
- 14:57of you and tell them that you are them from the future.
- 15:03I want you to tell them that they are worthy just because
- 15:08they exist. Give them a hug.
- 15:14Give them your attention. No conditions, no rules, so
- 15:21hoops to jump through. They are valuable as they are
- 15:26and let them feel that and tell them.
- 15:33Tell them that some people will try and make them feel bad if
- 15:39they don't do what they want them to do, but that is a
- 15:45reflection of their value, not yours.
- 15:53I want you to imagine telling this child that they have two
- 16:00contracts that they can agree to, and you might need to
- 16:06explain a contract to A5 or a six year old, but use words that
- 16:12they would understand like an agreement, a promise, and show
- 16:20them the first contract. The first contract is that their
- 16:25value is inextricably linked to how much value they create for
- 16:31others. In this contract, they would
- 16:36have to lose in order for someone else to win, but if
- 16:44they're rejected, their self worth will go down and this will
- 16:52invite strange dynamics of coercion, control, manipulation
- 17:02and gas lighting. And I want you to imagine giving
- 17:07this 5 or 6 year old a crayon and saying that they could sign
- 17:13this first contract, but you've got a better one.
- 17:18And that new contract might say something like you are valuable
- 17:26simply because you exist. Your value remains whether or
- 17:32not other people benefit from your time, your energy and
- 17:38emotion. This contract says that you're
- 17:42not a product or a commodity, you are an entity.
- 17:50You are energy, emotion and value.
- 17:57This contract says that you can have the option to help others,
- 18:04but never the obligation. This contract says if someone
- 18:13expects or feels entitled to your time, energy, money,
- 18:21thoughts or opinions, it can and should be rejected.
- 18:33But that contract also says that if they can help, if it's
- 18:38feasible to, and it would be appreciated, then they have the
- 18:44option without the obligation to help on their terms.
- 18:56Because when you offer help in that way that's genuinely
- 18:59appreciated, the law of reciprocity says, then that
- 19:04person would be willing to help if the roles were reversed.
- 19:12That's also how you tell who feels entitled to your time and
- 19:18energy and who appreciates it. If when they ask, you feel
- 19:24obliged, and when you ask you feel unworthy of even asking, or
- 19:34it's too easy for them to reject, that's not
- 19:39collaboration. That's not reciprocation.
- 19:44That is exploitation. And imagine having these two
- 19:51contracts in front of that younger version of you and be a
- 19:57legal adviser to that younger version of you because they
- 20:02won't know. Or maybe they do.
- 20:06And when you recommend, what would be?
- 20:12A more useful unconscious contract to agree to give them
- 20:21that brightly colored crayon and see them sign it in the way that
- 20:26only a 5 or 6 year old could seal it with a handshake and a
- 20:33hug. Just imagine what it would feel
- 20:37like to uproot a giant Redwood when it was just a sapling and
- 20:44instead plant a wonderful new tree in the exact location.
- 20:50And I want you to feel that that is happening now.
- 20:56I don't want you to imagine what would happen if there was a
- 20:58ripple through space and time from you being a child all the
- 21:02way up to the present. Think of all the key milestones
- 21:07that would have been different, things you would have felt
- 21:11comfortable saying no to, things that you would have done for
- 21:16yourself more often, a lack of tolerance for people that would
- 21:25manipulate or exploit, and more time and energy for yourself.
- 21:32And some people believe that you can't pour from an empty cup.
- 21:39Man. I want you to see a timeline
- 21:41evolve where you put your needs first.
- 21:47Because by putting your needs first, you could be kind and
- 21:52generous from a position of generosity and kindness, not
- 21:59simply to feel a reprieve of feeling any form of self worth.
- 22:08They say the best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago and the
- 22:14next best time is right now. And you can't change the past.
- 22:21But anything you're not changing, you're choosing.
- 22:25So imagine being at your desk and seeing 2 contracts in front
- 22:29of you. And imagine you have a crayon.
- 22:35It's now time for you to decide what unconscious contract you're
- 22:40willing to follow now. A contract where you are a
- 22:46psychological and emotional slave to be used by others or to
- 22:55be valuable, worthy, autonomous. You prioritize your needs and
- 23:04still can consider the others. But consideration does not mean
- 23:09obligation. You can choose to be a martyr or
- 23:15a philanthropist. You can choose to be a slave or
- 23:20an empowered entrepreneur living life on your terms.
- 23:30And just imagine that small child in the room with you and
- 23:34she's now coaching you, urging you to not sign that unconscious
- 23:41contract that was never signed to begin with.
- 23:45You just acted as if it was. And if you're ready to commit to
- 23:50that new agreement with yourself, let me know by nodding
- 23:54your head and get a glimpse of your future.
- 23:58Now imagine seeing a future where it's fine for you to say
- 24:05no, fine for you to have clear boundaries.
- 24:13You can spend your time, your money, your energy doing things
- 24:17you want to do. And if people ask, see that
- 24:22future version of you figuring out if you want to help, if it's
- 24:30feasible for you to help, and if it would be appreciated.
- 24:37And I want you to see a confident version of you being
- 24:41more than willing to say no to anything that takes you back to
- 24:50a version of you that you've broken free from.
- 24:56Because if you were a slave and you were given your freedom, how
- 25:02likely is it that you would choose voluntarily to become
- 25:08that slave again? So take your.
- 25:11Freedom. You've earned it, you deserve
- 25:16it, and you have permission from yourself to yourself to enjoy
- 25:24your freedom. As you hold that thought, just
- 25:29imagine floating all the way back to the present, to the here
- 25:33and the now. Take a deep breath in through
- 25:36your nose and out through your nose.
- 25:42That's it. Wiggle your fingers, wiggle your
- 25:45toes, start to connect and calibrate into the here and the
- 25:48now. As I now count from 1:00 to
- 25:5110:00 to awaken you. You will awaken feeling full of
- 25:55value, self worth, with a wonderful feeling of freedom,
- 26:00liberation, excitement for the future.
- 26:03Starting to count. 123 Waking up 456 More alert 7-8 Open your
- 26:10eyes, open your eyes 910 Wide awake, wide awake, wide awake.
