- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Hello and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 0:26Speaker 2: for millennials who want financial freedom. Today's Friday, which means
- 0:29Speaker 2: it's time to kick back with the girls and a
- 0:31Speaker 2: BEV in hand to unpack our favorite moments of the week,
- 0:35Speaker 2: and of course, to celebrate you the incredible She's on
- 0:37Speaker 2: the Money community. As always, we're going to share our
- 0:40Speaker 2: favorite money wins. We're going to talk about some super
- 0:43Speaker 2: fun news finance news, but also She's on the Money
- 0:46Speaker 2: news spoiler alert, it's really exciting and we're going to
- 0:50Speaker 2: be answering a juicy, juicy money question this week. It's
- 0:55Speaker 2: just me and Georgia King.
- 0:56Speaker 3: It certainly is Hello, Jessica Lucci. How are you by, girl?
- 1:00Speaker 3: I'm good?
- 1:01Speaker 2: How are you done?
- 1:02Speaker 3: I'm good. Hey, this is not the setup we expected today.
- 1:06Speaker 2: It's not the setup we expected, but it's the setup
- 1:08Speaker 2: we got. VD was here very intimately. She's having internet issues.
- 1:14Speaker 2: We did try to make it work, but we got
- 1:17Speaker 2: about three letters in every time and it just was
- 1:19Speaker 2: not happening. So once again we're back for a what
- 1:23Speaker 2: do we call it?
- 1:23Speaker 3: Last time Q and A with Yes, G and J Yes,
- 1:28Speaker 3: feels fair.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yeah, so back again. If anyone's heard our last Q
- 1:34Speaker 2: and A with G and J, we're taking the wheel.
- 1:36Speaker 2: It's going to be a wild ride because there's no
- 1:38Speaker 2: one controllers.
- 1:39Speaker 3: That's it. Yes, yes, but it's Friday. What's what's everyone
- 1:42Speaker 3: on Friday? If not a little loose, you've nailed it,
- 1:46Speaker 3: j Rick. I believe the place we usually start is
- 1:49Speaker 3: by talking about money. Monday Money Mondays a new thing.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Money diary Mondays talk around what happened this week. This
- 1:57Speaker 3: week we spoke to a lovely girl I always and
- 2:01Speaker 3: I really liked her story because she actually self described
- 2:04Speaker 3: her when she wrote in as just an average person,
- 2:07Speaker 3: which you know, it's not literally, but sometimes I think
- 2:11Speaker 3: it's nice to hear from someone who's just plodding along
- 2:14Speaker 3: some you.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Know, we try and really diversify these money stories and
- 2:18Speaker 2: money diaries, but sometimes we get people saying, oh, I
- 2:21Speaker 2: feel like I can't relate because they've done things I haven't.
- 2:24Speaker 2: And while the point of course of everything is to
- 2:27Speaker 2: share different opinions and perspectives and places, sometimes I think
- 2:31Speaker 2: it is just nice to have an average person. Yep,
- 2:34Speaker 2: definitely so the diaries. This week she spoke a lot
- 2:38Speaker 2: about her debt. She had some really really soul crushing
- 2:42Speaker 2: debt in her earlier days, and you know, challenged herself
- 2:45Speaker 2: to find the light at the end of the tunnel.
- 2:47Speaker 2: And I think one of the parting things that she
- 2:49Speaker 2: said in her episode was that she just wanted people
- 2:52Speaker 2: to know that no matter who you are, you can
- 2:55Speaker 2: get there. Like she said, I know it seems overwhelming,
- 2:58Speaker 2: I know it's really hard, but there is hope. You
- 3:02Speaker 2: just have to persevere. And that really sat with me.
- 3:04Speaker 2: I was like, oh my god, like it's so true.
- 3:06Speaker 2: And you know I've spoken before. I've been down that
- 3:09Speaker 2: consumer debt rabbit hole. So many people in our community
- 3:12Speaker 2: have as well. And you know, sometimes we find ourselves
- 3:16Speaker 2: in lucky situations where we have some money back from
- 3:18Speaker 2: the ATO or an inheritance, and that's so helpful, and
- 3:21Speaker 2: sometimes you just have to slog it out and make sacrifice.
- 3:25Speaker 2: And that is what she did. So it was a
- 3:27Speaker 2: really really good I know she used the word average,
- 3:30Speaker 2: but I'm not. I don't think she was average. I
- 3:31Speaker 2: think she was incredible, but a really good Listen if
- 3:34Speaker 2: you're in a similar position.
- 3:36Speaker 3: That sounds amazing.
- 3:38Speaker 2: It was really really good. But what did you guys
- 3:40Speaker 2: talk about on the Wednesday Deep DIVET What.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Did we talk about? Jessica Icci. Actually, this week it
- 3:45Speaker 3: was all about inheritances, Jessica Ricie. So we kind of
- 3:51Speaker 3: discussed a few things, including like exactly what they are
- 3:55Speaker 3: and how they work, but also what you're actually meant
- 3:58Speaker 3: to do when you receive a huge lump sum of money.
- 4:01Speaker 3: I mean, it's not always huge, but that it's kind
- 4:04Speaker 3: of it can be quite confusing for a lot of people.
- 4:08Speaker 3: If say you've just been transferred like fifty grand or
- 4:10Speaker 3: something like that, it's like what on earth you meant
- 4:12Speaker 3: to do with that? And people do tend to churn
- 4:16Speaker 3: through it really quickly, and we kind of we spoke
- 4:19Speaker 3: about the psychology around money earned versus money kind of one,
- 4:24Speaker 3: not that in inheritance is money one at all, but
- 4:26Speaker 3: it's kind of that line of thinking. So it was
- 4:29Speaker 3: really interesting to delve into that. And we also spoke
- 4:32Speaker 3: about guilt around inherited money as well. So it was
- 4:36Speaker 3: a really interesting episode and it's something that most of
- 4:40Speaker 3: us will face. Let me just pull up the stats.
- 4:43Speaker 3: So boomers are expected to leave behind two hundred and
- 4:46Speaker 3: twenty four billion dollars each year in inheritances by twenty fifty,
- 4:52Speaker 3: so there's a lot of money coming our way, and
- 4:55Speaker 3: it was just really helpful to kind of talk through
- 4:57Speaker 3: what we should actually be doing with that money, to
- 4:59Speaker 3: make sure that we're kind of doing the right thing.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Oh one thousand percent.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I remember reading somewhere that it's the biggest shift of
- 5:05Speaker 2: generational wealth to ever occur in history, which is wild.
- 5:09Speaker 2: And yes, some of us will inherit large sum some
- 5:12Speaker 2: of us might inherit smaller amounts, but I feel like
- 5:15Speaker 2: we don't necessarily consider the tax implications and those kind
- 5:19Speaker 2: of things. And as we've said before, VD specializes in
- 5:23Speaker 2: dealing with clients with inheritances, so I feel like the
- 5:26Speaker 2: insights she had to share there would have been fantastic.
- 5:28Speaker 2: It was primo give it a listen, for sure, But
- 5:30Speaker 2: you know what else is primo to talk money? Wins
- 5:33Speaker 2: threat segue my favorite thread of the week. I live
- 5:37Speaker 2: for this threat. It's so exciting. Have you got some
- 5:39Speaker 2: goodies for us this week?
- 5:41Speaker 3: Or I do have some goodies? There were some really
- 5:43Speaker 3: weird ones this week which I loved, So let's get
- 5:47Speaker 3: straight into them with one of my absolute favorites. So
- 5:50Speaker 3: The first one this week just comes from Emily. We
- 5:53Speaker 3: picked up a cubby off marketplace for fifty dollars and
- 5:57Speaker 3: turned it into an awesome coop for our new baby chicks.
- 6:00Speaker 3: That was rather than spending four hundred dollars plus on
- 6:03Speaker 3: a new one, and even better money win. We then
- 6:06Speaker 3: picked one up free on curbside collection yesterday that we're
- 6:10Speaker 3: going to paint and make into a chicken town.
- 6:13Speaker 2: The one we got was the one we got for free.
- 6:16Speaker 2: It was five hundred and fifty dollars.
- 6:18Speaker 3: New money win. How good's that? Chicken town? Chickens?
- 6:24Speaker 2: Oh my god, please, chickens are my favorite. I don't
- 6:27Speaker 2: know what it is about them. I think they're so cute.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Third money win. I assume she's going to have eggs
- 6:32Speaker 2: at some point. My mother, well she's not my mother
- 6:36Speaker 2: in law technically, but my future mother in law has
- 6:39Speaker 2: three chickens and we have not bought eggs since she
- 6:42Speaker 2: got them because they just go to town on the lanes.
- 6:44Speaker 3: And they are they some fresh some fresh goobies there.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Are huge and they're so much bigger than the ones
- 6:50Speaker 2: that you get at the shops as well. Sometimes because
- 6:52Speaker 2: obviously we're families, so like Okay, sometimes you've got to
- 6:54Speaker 2: brush a little bit of grass and poop official, but
- 6:57Speaker 2: totally fine, stunning. We'll look forward to that, Emily. The
- 7:02Speaker 2: next win Jess is from Mackenzie. I've spent weeks searching
- 7:05Speaker 2: for my favorite birbery perfume, as it has been sold
- 7:08Speaker 2: out from chemist Warehouse for months. At chemist Warehouse it
- 7:11Speaker 2: is one hundred and ten dollars. That is a hot price,
- 7:14Speaker 2: but she wants to avoid buying it from David Jones,
- 7:16Speaker 2: where it's two hundred and twenty four dollars. Finally, she
- 7:20Speaker 2: found it on catch for one hundred and twenty dollars,
- 7:23Speaker 2: and then her brother ended up giving her money as
- 7:26Speaker 2: a belated birthday present, so she used that for the perfume.
- 7:28Speaker 2: It's a money win. Oh my god, incredible. That's a
- 7:31Speaker 2: lot of money for a perfume. Two hundred dollars. I
- 7:33Speaker 2: mean it does last you bye, Well that's it. If
- 7:35Speaker 2: you can get it for the last why not precisely.
- 7:38Speaker 2: The next win is from Lani.
- 7:39Speaker 3: I found a delightful cow kettle a cattle if you will,
- 7:44Speaker 3: she wrote, for thirty eight dollars in an antique store.
- 7:47Speaker 3: I'm counting it as a money win. Because even though
- 7:50Speaker 3: I hadn't really set out that day to buy myself
- 7:52Speaker 3: a cow tea kettle, it brings me so much joy,
- 7:55Speaker 3: and I feel like it was still a very deliberate purchase.
- 7:58Speaker 3: I'm still saving for my house deposit, but my future
- 8:00Speaker 3: house will be filled with kooky, beautiful items that make
- 8:03Speaker 3: me happy. That's definitely a money win. I love just
- 8:06Speaker 3: a different Did you see the photo of this in
- 8:09Speaker 3: the group? Oh my god?
- 8:10Speaker 2: Yes, so funny. If you haven't seen it, go look
- 8:13Speaker 2: at the thread.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I die.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Yeah, it's amazing. Okay. The next win here is from
- 8:17Speaker 3: Tyler money Win. I paid off the debt I had
- 8:20Speaker 3: chosen for January and already made my money saving goal
- 8:24Speaker 3: for February, so anything extra now goes to the next
- 8:26Speaker 3: bill I'm working to pay off single mom life, so
- 8:29Speaker 3: I am determined to stick to my goals for us
- 8:31Speaker 3: a wholesome money win bear. The next win is from Claire.
- 8:35Speaker 3: We watched a YouTube video as to how to unblock
- 8:38Speaker 3: my bathroom sink offers on air. Tasker started at one
- 8:42Speaker 3: hundred and thirty dollars, but I worked it out on
- 8:44Speaker 3: my own wholesome little bit of DIY.
- 8:47Speaker 2: We love to see the ladies doing it for themselves.
- 8:49Speaker 2: We do really a line like don't rip the pumping
- 8:52Speaker 2: out of your wall.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Don't do that.
- 8:54Speaker 2: You would be surprised. I think, who was it? I
- 8:56Speaker 2: saw flex mummy talking about this the other day and
- 8:59Speaker 2: it's it wasn't specific to this situation, but she was
- 9:01Speaker 2: saying Google is so easy and in this day and
- 9:05Speaker 2: age people, I mean, we all do it. We pay
- 9:07Speaker 2: for convenience, and there's nothing wrong with that, but don't
- 9:10Speaker 2: underestimate the ability to solve a problem with Google, like
- 9:14Speaker 2: the amount of things that you can fix just by
- 9:16Speaker 2: giving it a quick Google. Absolutely is She's done here,
- 9:19Speaker 2: and that's what one hundred and thirty dollars in her
- 9:21Speaker 2: back pocket that she did not have to spend.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Precisely that it's quite similar to like doctor Google and
- 9:26Speaker 3: things like that. Who needs the doctors when you've got Google's.
- 9:30Speaker 3: There was a little gag there for everyone. Okay, let's
- 9:34Speaker 3: move on. Actually, between this the chicken coop and the
- 9:40Speaker 3: cow kettle, I'm not quite sure which is my fave,
- 9:43Speaker 3: but let's hear it. Money Win. Sorry, it's from Shaney
- 9:46Speaker 3: Credit where credits due Money Win. I forgot to buy
- 9:49Speaker 3: potatoes during my grocery shop on Saturday as well as
- 9:52Speaker 3: fruit happens to us all. Yesterday I popped to the
- 9:55Speaker 3: shops to get some fruit for the week and found
- 9:57Speaker 3: two bags of spud Light potato reduced to a dollar
- 10:01Speaker 3: eighty each, down from five dollars. So I got double
- 10:04Speaker 3: the potatoes for less than one bag normally. How can
- 10:11Speaker 3: this community truly just did my tea? No, I know,
- 10:15Speaker 3: I think the.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Potato win, we could just be your favorite.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Okay, that takes me to my final win for today,
- 10:22Speaker 3: j Rick. So it's from Melinda. She managed to pick
- 10:26Speaker 3: up a pretty much brand new dice in V six
- 10:29Speaker 3: for ten dollars to someone I know, for someone who's
- 10:33Speaker 3: trying to navigate a relationship ending and buying my own
- 10:35Speaker 3: things to my own place, this was a huge win.
- 10:38Speaker 3: That's actually like insane that I don't get off.
- 10:42Speaker 2: That is clearly the universe going, hey, we know you're
- 10:45Speaker 2: having a hard time.
- 10:46Speaker 3: I got your back, girl, precisely.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Sending you lots of love. I hope you're doing okay
- 10:50Speaker 2: through the breakup, but I mean, if anything's going to
- 10:52Speaker 2: make you feel better at the ten dollar dison.
- 10:54Speaker 3: So what a gift? That is it? For the week?
- 10:58Speaker 3: J Rick until next time.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Immaculate as always, truly my favorite part of the week.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Dread I Die.
- 11:05Speaker 2: If you haven't searched it up, you can search money
- 11:08Speaker 2: Wins thread. It's pinned in the group as well, get amongst.
- 11:11Speaker 2: He's always a good time. We love already, George. I
- 11:13Speaker 2: know we normally do a topical finance thing here. This
- 11:17Speaker 2: is very topical to finance people within our finance community,
- 11:21Speaker 2: so I'm gonna include it because I just I need
- 11:24Speaker 2: to talk about this. I'm so excited. If you don't
- 11:27Speaker 2: follow us on socials, you wouldn't know she's on the money.
- 11:30Speaker 2: You're doing events. Yeah, finally we're back. It's been a long,
- 11:36Speaker 2: long slog to get here. Events were planned and then
- 11:39Speaker 2: they were canceled. It's been a whole thing, so much
- 11:42Speaker 2: going on behind the scenes that you guys wouldn't have
- 11:44Speaker 2: even seen because we were a little sad about it.
- 11:47Speaker 2: But we're back. We've got two events planned for International
- 11:51Speaker 2: Women's Day as well, which just felt so appropriate. So
- 11:54Speaker 2: we have an event in Melbourne on Tuesday, the eighth
- 11:57Speaker 2: of March, and then an event in Sydney on Thursday
- 12:00Speaker 2: the tenth. Both are celebrating International Women's day and we
- 12:04Speaker 2: just have a banger of a day lined up. It
- 12:05Speaker 2: is a morning event. We tried to make sure that
- 12:07Speaker 2: it would finish up early, which is pretty typical of
- 12:10Speaker 2: these International Women's Day events, so that you could pop
- 12:13Speaker 2: in the morning before work and not have to miss
- 12:15Speaker 2: a day because we don't want to get in between
- 12:17Speaker 2: you and making that sweet cash money.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Okay, so it's a morning event. There's one in Sydney, Yeah,
- 12:24Speaker 3: and there's one in Melbourne. Correct I hear. We've got
- 12:27Speaker 3: some guests speakers lined up, talk us through them.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Oh my goodness. Yes, So we have two incredible speakers
- 12:33Speaker 2: at each event. The theme this year, if you didn't know,
- 12:35Speaker 2: is break the Bias for International Women's Day, and we've
- 12:38Speaker 2: really tried to lean into this with the guests that
- 12:40Speaker 2: we have coming on board. So in Melbourne we have
- 12:43Speaker 2: Ashley Strata Jones who she's a writer, she's a speaker,
- 12:47Speaker 2: an activist of course, and she founded Raise our Voice Australia,
- 12:50Speaker 2: which is aimed specifically at boosting the number of diverse
- 12:55Speaker 2: voices involved in public decision making. So we want females,
- 12:59Speaker 2: we want our non binary friends, people that we don't
- 13:02Speaker 2: normally see being represented who should absolutely be getting a
- 13:06Speaker 2: seat at the table and having their say, and so
- 13:08Speaker 2: Ashley has been a huge campaigner for that, and she's
- 13:12Speaker 2: been a really big driving force behind that campaign which
- 13:15Speaker 2: you might have recently see come into play about consent
- 13:18Speaker 2: being now a mandatory part of school education, which how
- 13:23Speaker 2: we went this far without that Lord only knows, but
- 13:26Speaker 2: a huge change that she was a really active part
- 13:28Speaker 2: of pushing. So she will be just so incredible. I'm
- 13:32Speaker 2: really really excited to.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Hear her chat.
- 13:33Speaker 2: And then also in Melbourn we have Maria Tattle, who
- 13:36Speaker 2: you might know. She's been around quite a bit. Recently
- 13:39Speaker 2: she was on I'm a Celeb. She was of course
- 13:42Speaker 2: Miss Universe, yes I think it was twenty twenty. And
- 13:47Speaker 2: she's also of course been announced recently as the face
- 13:49Speaker 2: of Marty Grass. So she's this incredible South Asian media personality.
- 13:54Speaker 2: She's a huge advocate again for diversity, incredibly talented. She's
- 13:58Speaker 2: a model, a writer, a commentator, speaker, and she really
- 14:01Speaker 2: works to create meaningful dialogue and campaign for change as well,
- 14:05Speaker 2: which we thought was so fantastic. She's also very funny.
- 14:08Speaker 2: I follow her on TikTok and she is just one
- 14:10Speaker 2: of those women who really seems to have it all.
- 14:12Speaker 2: She's gorgeous, she's well spoken, she's very well educated, and
- 14:16Speaker 2: I often see a lot of discourse in her comments
- 14:19Speaker 2: from the men just really coming for her, and she
- 14:21Speaker 2: always handles them with such grace and such voice. Good.
- 14:26Speaker 2: So again a really reasoned voice that I cannot wait
- 14:29Speaker 2: to hear. And then in Sydney, another two fabulous women.
- 14:32Speaker 2: We have Manal al Sharif, who, oh my god, what
- 14:36Speaker 2: a powerhouse. I am dying to hear this speech. She
- 14:39Speaker 2: again really influential, but she was a huge voice in
- 14:43Speaker 2: advocating for women's rights and empowerment, specifically the women to
- 14:47Speaker 2: Drive movement if you've heard of me, yep, which was
- 14:51Speaker 2: an absolute banger. The women to Drive movement essentially encourage
- 14:55Speaker 2: women to step up and quite literally put their foot
- 14:57Speaker 2: on the pedal. In Saudi Arabia, women didn't drive, it
- 15:01Speaker 2: just wasn't using. And this was very very recent She
- 15:05Speaker 2: posted I believe, videos of herself online driving, which, as
- 15:09Speaker 2: you can imagine, spark some pretty significant controversy. But it
- 15:12Speaker 2: was that action of hers that really facilitated that change,
- 15:17Speaker 2: and women to Drive really swept across the nation and
- 15:20Speaker 2: now they're doing it. It's just it's absolutely incredible. She
- 15:23Speaker 2: of course also has written a book on the same
- 15:26Speaker 2: topic and just done a lot of other incredible work
- 15:28Speaker 2: in that space. So I think that that's going to
- 15:31Speaker 2: be a really interesting one, particularly because it's global. You know,
- 15:35Speaker 2: we talk a lot about women. Most of our community
- 15:38Speaker 2: is based in Australia. I think it's going to be
- 15:39Speaker 2: incredible to hear a little bit more about how she
- 15:42Speaker 2: really worked to break the bias on a global scale
- 15:45Speaker 2: quite literally.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Yeah, wow, that's some incredible And who's the second speaker.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Our final speaker is Tracy Spicer, who people I think
- 15:53Speaker 2: might recognize because she's worked in journalism and broadcast media.
- 15:58Speaker 2: She accepted the Sydney Peace Prize for her work on
- 16:00Speaker 2: the Me Too movement and she actually also won the
- 16:03Speaker 2: National Award for Excellence in Women's Leadership through Women in
- 16:06Speaker 2: Leadership Australia. Again just really campaigning for women. The Me
- 16:11Speaker 2: Too movement we can all agree was huge and incredible
- 16:14Speaker 2: and is still huge and incredible and such important work.
- 16:17Speaker 2: And I think as a woman in media, I'm not
- 16:21Speaker 2: really a woman in media like she's on one that is.
- 16:24Speaker 2: I mean, she's on one is media, but Tracy was
- 16:26Speaker 2: very present in traditional media, so daytime television, and I
- 16:31Speaker 2: think that there needs to be an acknowledgement of the
- 16:34Speaker 2: amount of pressure that those women must feel to look
- 16:38Speaker 2: after their jobs, which absolutely should.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Not be a thing.
- 16:41Speaker 2: But you know, it's towing that line of sharing what
- 16:44Speaker 2: you think is right, that what is appropriate, and I
- 16:47Speaker 2: can imagine that that would be really challenging to sometimes
- 16:50Speaker 2: walk that line. And we have heard women, I think,
- 16:53Speaker 2: as this movement's come out more and more talk about
- 16:55Speaker 2: that and talk about how sometimes they look to the
- 16:58Speaker 2: other way. And that's where this Meetia two movement really
- 17:01Speaker 2: kind of kicked off and made some significant change in
- 17:04Speaker 2: that space. So she's a seasoned professional, she's been around
- 17:08Speaker 2: for many years, and I think she's going to have
- 17:11Speaker 2: a lot of really insightful information to share with us
- 17:13Speaker 2: in the community.
- 17:14Speaker 3: How exciting. So we've got amazing speakers. Vickid will be there,
- 17:18Speaker 3: You and I will be there. How exciting. Yeah, And
- 17:21Speaker 3: there's also going to be some freebies, which I am
- 17:24Speaker 3: fairly excited about. Heard some whispers about some free oat lattes.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Is this true?
- 17:29Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. Of course, we know we all love
- 17:31Speaker 2: a freebie, We love a money win, So you're absolutely correct.
- 17:34Speaker 2: There's going to be an Oatmelk glasses stand of course,
- 17:37Speaker 2: very on brand. There's going to be breakfast cannopees, of
- 17:39Speaker 2: course because it's an early morning. And we have these
- 17:43Speaker 2: incredible gift bags. If I do say so myself, they're
- 17:47Speaker 2: literally worth more than what you're paying for a ticket.
- 17:50Speaker 2: So okay, you're making money.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Are you able to tell us what's in them? Or
- 17:54Speaker 3: is it like a surprise for the day. Oh, you know.
- 17:56Speaker 2: What, let me give you a little insight. So the
- 17:59Speaker 2: big thing for us is we did not want this
- 18:01Speaker 2: to be an event where it's like, here's a brochure
- 18:03Speaker 2: and a pen, thank you so much for coming. So
- 18:06Speaker 2: we've spoken to some brands and you'll recognize every name
- 18:09Speaker 2: on this list because they're all brands that the She's
- 18:12Speaker 2: on the Money team use and love. So my go
- 18:15Speaker 2: to the viral skin exfoliating glove that we're all obsessed with.
- 18:19Speaker 2: You're going to get one of those Sirene's skincare. If
- 18:22Speaker 2: you follow Victoria, she is obsessed with their foam to
- 18:26Speaker 2: Joel cleanser. She got me on Twitter as well. It's incredible.
- 18:29Speaker 2: You're going to get one of them. Aliekd are supplying accessories,
- 18:33Speaker 2: our faves I know our faves literally the unofficial uniform
- 18:37Speaker 2: of the year from the team Bang and Body. The moisturizer,
- 18:40Speaker 2: I don't know have you used it before doing this girl?
- 18:43Speaker 3: Oh that's stuff is the best. God, it smells good.
- 18:47Speaker 2: So good. So everyone's going to get one of them.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Our Melbourne friends are going to get a copy of
- 18:51Speaker 2: Frankie mag The team at Benefit are giving us brow products.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Yes you can drinks. Are going to pop some alcohol
- 18:57Speaker 2: free because there's no age limit on a ten, so
- 19:00Speaker 2: alcohol free beverages in. And then we're also popping in
- 19:05Speaker 2: the ses on the Money Daily notepad and some stickers.
- 19:07Speaker 2: You might have seen them floating around. You can't actually
- 19:09Speaker 2: buy those. They're just something that we give away when
- 19:12Speaker 2: we do giveaways some stuff. So everyone's going to get
- 19:14Speaker 2: about as well. We're still chatting to a few brands.
- 19:17Speaker 2: There might even be a few more surprises. If you
- 19:20Speaker 2: are a brand that you're a friend of the show
- 19:22Speaker 2: and you want to get in on it, sign into
- 19:23Speaker 2: our dms. But it's going to be spectacular. It's already
- 19:27Speaker 2: worth over one hundred and fifty dollars, which is amazing.
- 19:30Speaker 2: We're not going to send you home empty handed. We
- 19:31Speaker 2: just couldn't do it.
- 19:32Speaker 3: No, And Joe Rick, you know what the best part.
- 19:34Speaker 3: I mean, there's a lot of best parts to these events,
- 19:37Speaker 3: but the Shoes on the Money community is going to
- 19:39Speaker 3: have a chance to meet each other in the flesh,
- 19:42Speaker 3: and they really haven't had the opportunity to do that
- 19:44Speaker 3: in the last two years. Like it's it's going to
- 19:46Speaker 3: be great.
- 19:47Speaker 2: It's going to be great. It's not even about like,
- 19:49Speaker 2: I'm so excited that we get to meet you and
- 19:51Speaker 2: hug you and squeeze you. But I think outside of that,
- 19:54Speaker 2: there's going to be a couple of hundred people in
- 19:56Speaker 2: that room who share your interest and share your passion,
- 20:00Speaker 2: and we've specifically allocated time for people to meet each
- 20:04Speaker 2: other and mingle, and we're going to facilitate that in
- 20:06Speaker 2: a way that it's not super awkward, because as a
- 20:08Speaker 2: socially anxious person, I would hear that and be so afraid.
- 20:11Speaker 2: So don't stress. But we really hope that you can
- 20:15Speaker 2: make some friends who are local to you that you
- 20:17Speaker 2: can connect with and lean on, because sometimes we do
- 20:20Speaker 2: talk about in the community it can be hard working
- 20:23Speaker 2: on those big goals, right ge when you don't have
- 20:25Speaker 2: friends who share that value or that vision. And it's
- 20:28Speaker 2: not a bad thing, but everyone's on their own journey
- 20:31Speaker 2: and sometimes you just want a friend that you can
- 20:32Speaker 2: text and say, hey, I got a one dollar bag
- 20:34Speaker 2: of potatoes. You want them to sealry?
- 20:39Speaker 3: Yes, I can't wait, So I'm assuming we'll put like
- 20:43Speaker 3: a link in the show notes for the girlies to
- 20:45Speaker 3: find out more.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Absolutely check it out. All the details are there. Melbourne
- 20:49Speaker 2: and Sydney tickets are available now. They are limited, and
- 20:52Speaker 2: I don't mean to say that to be like you
- 20:54Speaker 2: must buy, please sleep on the purchase if you need to,
- 20:57Speaker 2: But I didn't want to just be like they're infinite,
- 20:59Speaker 2: because they're still capacity limits on venues and stuff like that.
- 21:03Speaker 2: So check it out. If you have any questions, slide
- 21:05Speaker 2: into our DMS let us know.
- 21:07Speaker 3: But we are so.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Pumped to see you now. I literally cannot wait. It's
- 21:11Speaker 2: all I think about every day and probably will think
- 21:14Speaker 2: about every day for the next couple of weeks. You
- 21:16Speaker 2: and b both my girl. Should we head to a
- 21:19Speaker 2: break Yeah, absolutely, We'll be back right in a second.
- 21:22Speaker 2: It is Friday, which means it's time to answer your
- 21:26Speaker 2: most burning finance, career and life questions. If you need
- 21:29Speaker 2: help untangling a naughty dilemma, no matter how big or small,
- 21:33Speaker 2: send us through a voice note to podcast at She's
- 21:35Speaker 2: on the money dot com dot a U and will
- 21:37Speaker 2: help you find the answer you've been searching for. Now,
- 21:40Speaker 2: let's press play on today's listener question.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Hi, She's in the Money team. I'm in a bit
- 21:46Speaker 4: of an awkward situation. So a really good friend of
- 21:48Speaker 4: mine has asked to borrow two and a half thousand dollars.
- 21:51Speaker 4: I've actually been working my journey towards financial freedom for
- 21:54Speaker 4: some time, and I often share my wings with her,
- 21:56Speaker 4: so she knows that I can afford it. I feel
- 21:58Speaker 4: a little bit uncomfortable with the whole situation, but I
- 22:00Speaker 4: don't know how to say no without seeing like a
- 22:02Speaker 4: bad friend.
- 22:03Speaker 3: What should I do?
- 22:04Speaker 2: Alrighty straight into it, Jessica Richie, what are your thoughts?
- 22:10Speaker 3: My girl?
- 22:11Speaker 2: It's a really tough one. As I've said before, I
- 22:14Speaker 2: am someone who likes to catastrophize, so I am fully
- 22:17Speaker 2: on board with some healthy skepticism. I do not think
- 22:20Speaker 2: it's a bad thing. It doesn't say anything about your
- 22:22Speaker 2: relationship with your friend or how much you trust her,
- 22:25Speaker 2: But I think when we're talking about big sums of money,
- 22:29Speaker 2: it's important to ask these questions. So firstly, good on
- 22:32Speaker 2: her I personally, and I can only speak from my
- 22:36Speaker 2: personal experience, especially because we don't have the finance expert here,
- 22:39Speaker 2: we're just giving it a good old hunt. But I
- 22:42Speaker 2: personally do not believe I would lend a friend this money.
- 22:46Speaker 2: It's hard because it is dependent as well on circumstance,
- 22:49Speaker 2: like if your friend is potentially trying to leave a
- 22:53Speaker 2: dangerous situation or I can totally understand where there might
- 22:57Speaker 2: be that need, but if that is the case, there
- 23:00Speaker 2: is also resources available to assist people. So depending on
- 23:04Speaker 2: what she needs the money for, I think is going
- 23:07Speaker 2: to really impact your decision. And so if she's in
- 23:11Speaker 2: a lot of debt, put her in touch with our
- 23:12Speaker 2: friends at the National Debt Helpline. If she is in
- 23:15Speaker 2: a dangerous situation, go back and listen to our financial
- 23:18Speaker 2: abuse episode. There's a heap of resources in there that
- 23:22Speaker 2: she can access that's applicable to any kind of abusive situation. Really,
- 23:26Speaker 2: if she's just in a bit of a tight spot
- 23:28Speaker 2: where she's overspent and can't afford rent this month, I
- 23:32Speaker 2: don't want to sound like an asshole. I really don't.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Please don't take this the wrong way, but I worry
- 23:38Speaker 2: that by bailing someone out, potentially you're enabling that bad habit.
- 23:44Speaker 2: There are very few situations financially where you can't get
- 23:47Speaker 2: a bit of leeway. So if she is late on
- 23:49Speaker 2: her rent or on her bills, she can actually just
- 23:51Speaker 2: get in touch with her provider and let them know
- 23:54Speaker 2: that she's experiencing financial hardship. I think that's an option.
- 23:57Speaker 2: A lot of people don't know he's on the table,
- 23:59Speaker 2: so that's the case. Let her know that she can
- 24:02Speaker 2: reach out and facilitate a payment plan or something like that.
- 24:05Speaker 2: But as much as you say you can afford it,
- 24:08Speaker 2: which is great, you've obviously worked really hard to put
- 24:11Speaker 2: yourself in that position, you have to consider that the
- 24:14Speaker 2: money you put out there might not come back. And again,
- 24:17Speaker 2: very skeptical of me to say, I know that she's
- 24:19Speaker 2: a good friend of yours and you said you trust
- 24:21Speaker 2: her and whatever else, but I don't think you should
- 24:25Speaker 2: ever put money out there unless you're prepared to not
- 24:28Speaker 2: get it back because you just don't know.
- 24:30Speaker 3: No, I one hundred percent agree with you. If you're
- 24:35Speaker 3: going to be lending really any amount of money to
- 24:38Speaker 3: a friend or even a family member, you just need
- 24:41Speaker 3: to know that it's not pretty likely, but there's a
- 24:46Speaker 3: good chance you won't get it back, and there's kind
- 24:49Speaker 3: of not much you can do about that. And we
- 24:52Speaker 3: know that money and friendships and money and relationships with
- 24:55Speaker 3: like family members, it can get really sticky really quickly.
- 25:00Speaker 3: And I find like people's relationship with money it can
- 25:05Speaker 3: also be quite confusing. Like I feel like people can
- 25:09Speaker 3: kind of convince themselves that the money that they've been
- 25:13Speaker 3: lent has been given to them and it's their money,
- 25:16Speaker 3: Like they kind of can tell themselves these stories about
- 25:20Speaker 3: that money. Does that make any kind of sense?
- 25:22Speaker 2: Jets, Yeah, I think so. I saw actually a post
- 25:25Speaker 2: in the group. It was a little while back now,
- 25:27Speaker 2: but it was someone saying that she actually had let
- 25:29Speaker 2: money to someone that she lived with, and then they
- 25:32Speaker 2: had a heap of packages coming to the house. And
- 25:34Speaker 2: it's hard because you lent you know, I assume you're
- 25:37Speaker 2: going to lend this money in the hope that it's
- 25:39Speaker 2: going to some broad or important situation. But then are
- 25:44Speaker 2: you going to be fact checking what she's doing? You know,
- 25:47Speaker 2: if she goes out for dinner or goes out for drinks,
- 25:49Speaker 2: You're going to be questioning those choices because I think
- 25:52Speaker 2: the other element to this, outside of the potential loss
- 25:54Speaker 2: of the actual money, is the impact that it's going
- 25:58Speaker 2: to have on your relationship, because I mean, is she
- 26:02Speaker 2: going to pay it back in two weeks? Is she
- 26:04Speaker 2: going to pay it back in two months? Is it
- 26:06Speaker 2: just when she can afford it? Because I think all
- 26:10Speaker 2: of those things factor in. And if she's like, oh,
- 26:12Speaker 2: I'm really sorry, like I can't afford to pay you
- 26:14Speaker 2: back for a couple of months, are you then going
- 26:17Speaker 2: to be kind of watching what she's doing and getting
- 26:19Speaker 2: frustrated with her? And is that going to kind of
- 26:21Speaker 2: impact the way that you relate to each other, Because
- 26:25Speaker 2: I think you need to put some value on that
- 26:28Speaker 2: as well. And I know that it's really hard, Like
- 26:30Speaker 2: I know that she's asking this question because she doesn't
- 26:32Speaker 2: know how to have that conversation or if it's okay
- 26:35Speaker 2: to have that conversation, and it absolutely is. Is I
- 26:38Speaker 2: think the first thing we should probably say, Like you
- 26:41Speaker 2: were allowed to say no, it doesn't make you a
- 26:43Speaker 2: bad person, but gee, how would you maybe go about
- 26:46Speaker 2: having that conversation with someone because as you said, it
- 26:49Speaker 2: is very sticky.
- 26:50Speaker 3: Yeah, as in saying no.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Yeah, Like let's say she's going to go no, I'm
- 26:54Speaker 2: really sorry. It just doesn't seem like the right choice
- 26:56Speaker 2: for me. How do you reckon? She could best have
- 26:58Speaker 2: that that chat?
- 27:00Speaker 3: Okay, So you would definitely want it to be an
- 27:04Speaker 3: in person chat, I would suggest. I think these things
- 27:07Speaker 3: can get quite toxic quite quickly if they're done via
- 27:11Speaker 3: a messaging app or service, So avoid text, avoid WhatsApp,
- 27:16Speaker 3: avoid messenger, because you know how we can all be
- 27:20Speaker 3: tone gets missed and things get weird. So yes, in
- 27:25Speaker 3: person is the way to go. And I would just
- 27:28Speaker 3: be really honest and upfront and really lean on the
- 27:32Speaker 3: fact that you don't want this to jeopardize your friendship
- 27:36Speaker 3: in any way because you value that way too much,
- 27:39Speaker 3: and probably just point them into the direction of the
- 27:42Speaker 3: resources that could help them. If you're a regular listener
- 27:46Speaker 3: to Sheese on the Money, as it sounds like you are,
- 27:48Speaker 3: if you're sending us in your question, then yeah, you'll
- 27:51Speaker 3: know as just said before that we have the National
- 27:54Speaker 3: Debt Helpline who we lean on all the time, and
- 27:57Speaker 3: there are a number of services out there that can
- 27:59Speaker 3: help and Yeah, as you said before, j Rick, like
- 28:02Speaker 3: a lot of providers, if she's behind on her bills
- 28:05Speaker 3: or her rent, they are often willing to give you
- 28:08Speaker 3: a little bit of leeway if push comes to shove.
- 28:10Speaker 3: So I think probably explaining that to her and then yeah,
- 28:14Speaker 3: just really reiterating how special the friendship is and how
- 28:17Speaker 3: you really don't want to jeopardize that would be my
- 28:20Speaker 3: key takeaways. And yeah, doing it in person.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Yeah, an, Yeah, I think I would just say, if
- 28:28Speaker 2: you're a little worse like me and not great on
- 28:31Speaker 2: the confrontation front, depending on how much I guess of
- 28:35Speaker 2: your financial journey you've shared, don't be afraid to I
- 28:40Speaker 2: don't want to say lie. I'm not gonna say lie,
- 28:42Speaker 2: but just fabricate some truth, yeah, in the sense of
- 28:48Speaker 2: you don't have to justify this decision or every dollar
- 28:51Speaker 2: that you have. So if you're really worried about hurting
- 28:55Speaker 2: her feelings or anything like that, you could potentially just say, hey, like,
- 28:58Speaker 2: my money's actually tied up in stocks, or it's in
- 29:01Speaker 2: an high interest savings account that I can't access, or
- 29:04Speaker 2: I'm penalized if I access it. Just because you have
- 29:08Speaker 2: money or you have assets doesn't necessarily mean that you
- 29:10Speaker 2: have easy access to it. And again, you don't have
- 29:14Speaker 2: to justify that to someone. So if you are someone
- 29:17Speaker 2: who has a little bit of trouble in those situations,
- 29:21Speaker 2: something like that might be helpful. Obviously we don't condone
- 29:24Speaker 2: lying on the rig, but you know, starting a little
- 29:27Speaker 2: bit of mayo, a little bit can mayo to your
- 29:30Speaker 2: story to preserve a friendship, I think can be worthwhile.
- 29:33Speaker 2: And again going into it if that's what you're saying
- 29:36Speaker 2: and saying, hey, like I actually can't help you, but
- 29:38Speaker 2: here's a heap of resources that can Like I found
- 29:40Speaker 2: the email or the phone number, or did you know
- 29:44Speaker 2: you can call your bank to get a pause on
- 29:46Speaker 2: your credit card repayments or anything like that. You know,
- 29:49Speaker 2: it's incredible that you want to help her, that's really
- 29:52Speaker 2: generous and really kind, but you also are not obliged
- 29:55Speaker 2: to put yourself in a situation that you don't want
- 29:59Speaker 2: to be in financially.
- 30:00Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think also like it probably is a
- 30:04Speaker 3: really big deal for this friend to be opening up
- 30:06Speaker 3: to you and saying, hey, I'm not in a good
- 30:08Speaker 3: financial position, can you help me out? Like that's they're
- 30:12Speaker 3: putting themselves in a very vulnerable situation, So just listening
- 30:15Speaker 3: to them and maybe even lending them some of your
- 30:18Speaker 3: shoes on the money expertise, suggesting they listen to the
- 30:21Speaker 3: podcast to try and get their finances on track. I
- 30:24Speaker 3: think they can be really helpful things as well. So
- 30:27Speaker 3: just yeah, be very kind as always. But yeah, it's
- 30:32Speaker 3: a tricky one. But two and a half thousand dollars
- 30:33Speaker 3: that is not play money? Is that the expression? That's
- 30:38Speaker 3: re di digitch cash?
- 30:39Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly right, And I think it is like we're
- 30:41Speaker 2: talking very generally, but very dependent on the situation, seeing
- 30:45Speaker 2: if you can help in other ways. You know, do
- 30:47Speaker 2: they need help with putting together a budget, or do
- 30:50Speaker 2: they need help with maybe figuring out how to cut
- 30:52Speaker 2: down their expenses. There are other ways that you can
- 30:55Speaker 2: definitely lean into helping her save money that don't require
- 30:58Speaker 2: you coughing up your own cash.
- 31:00Speaker 3: Yeah, one hundred percent, Ja, Rick, I feel like you
- 31:02Speaker 3: had some very good ideas, as you always do.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Who needs Victoria divine? I think it's for Jessica Richie show,
- 31:08Speaker 2: stop it the G and J Show. We're coming for you,
- 31:11Speaker 2: but also not really Victoria.

- 31:27Speaker 2: you for sharing and for caring for the land on
- 31:30Speaker 2: which we are able to learn. We pay our respects
- 31:32Speaker 2: to elders past and present, and we share our friendship
- 31:35Speaker 2: and our kindness. And remember, guys, that the advice sheared
- 31:38Speaker 2: on She's on the Money is general in nature, especially today,
- 31:42Speaker 2: and does not consider your individual circumstances. She's on the
- 31:45Speaker 2: Money exists purely for educational purposes and should not be
- 31:49Speaker 2: relied upon to make an investment or a financial decision.
- 31:52Speaker 2: And we promise Victoria Divine is an authorized representative of
