- 0:02Speaker 1: Life audio. Today, I'll talk about that.
- 0:06Speaker 2: John listens to one of his daughter's favorite podcasts and
- 0:09Speaker 2: ponders why someone would want to buy Hitler's old car. Meanwhile,
- 0:13Speaker 2: I resolved to be mediocre in twenty twenty six and
- 0:15Speaker 2: tell you how both President Bush's had embarrassing moments exactly
- 0:19Speaker 2: ten years apart. Well, it's a conversation about not losing
- 0:21Speaker 2: hope when a season of life ends, and the importance
- 0:24Speaker 2: of trusting God. Today's episode is not sponsored by door Dash.
- 0:27Speaker 2: This burger is cold, but at least it also cost
- 0:30Speaker 2: fifty seven dollars. But first or from our actual sponsor.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Well, Happy New Year. It's John and Johnny talk about
- 0:44Speaker 1: that twenty twenty six. Guys, we're just rolling along like
- 0:48Speaker 1: we just don't stop here. This is gonna be our year.
- 0:53Speaker 1: You think, no, do you have like a word of
- 0:57Speaker 1: the year.
- 0:57Speaker 2: He told me your word last time, and I've already
- 0:59Speaker 2: forgotten it. Hold on a second. It was a constitutionality,
- 1:04Speaker 2: was it was route right, rule of law, due process.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I could think of all kinds of words. It was
- 1:14Speaker 2: a contentment.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Okay, that's good too. Yeah, yeah, I mean I don't
- 1:19Speaker 1: know how constitutional it is. Yeah, we could do we
- 1:20Speaker 1: could have some funny stuff if we made. If you
- 1:23Speaker 1: and I had time, we'd make all kinds of creative,
- 1:24Speaker 1: funny things. But one would be choosing a word of
- 1:27Speaker 1: the year for all kinds of different things, like it's
- 1:29Speaker 1: in society.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Or like using your word of the year as a
- 1:32Speaker 2: weapon against somebody else in your relationship. I'm just getting
- 1:35Speaker 2: a real word of the year, and it's timeliness.
- 1:38Speaker 1: You're like looking at your wife as she gets ready.
- 1:40Speaker 1: You know, it's passive aggressive, it's don't be around toxic people. Yeah,
- 1:47Speaker 1: I feel like this year, I really want to remove
- 1:50Speaker 1: toxic people who extract energy. A lot of people are
- 1:55Speaker 1: a drain on me, and I just want to get
- 1:58Speaker 1: people I've been with for years. You're like, I'm the
- 2:00Speaker 1: only one you're ever around. Yeah, there's just some people
- 2:03Speaker 1: I don't want to It's why we were listening. We
- 2:06Speaker 1: were coming home from volleyball last night and said, he
- 2:09Speaker 1: has a podcast she listens to, Okay, and so she
- 2:12Speaker 1: lets me listen with her, which is a great honor.
- 2:14Speaker 1: You know, he's seventeen year I'm sure she's her whole
- 2:17Speaker 1: world there and I don't know the name of it. Really,
- 2:21Speaker 1: you're such a great listener. You're just the best dad.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Because I can't really see. I could just see on
- 2:28Speaker 1: the Apple stupid. I don't know, but it's this. I
- 2:33Speaker 1: know it's a female. She's just in her picture. There's
- 2:37Speaker 1: not a lot of clothes. Oh no, but she's young. Okay,
- 2:43Speaker 1: But I really like a lot of the stuff she's
- 2:45Speaker 1: saying is very it's very pop culture therapy kind of thing.
- 2:49Speaker 1: It's very believe in yourself and don't let people run
- 2:52Speaker 1: over you. But if you were listen all the way through,
- 2:55Speaker 1: like she talks about God some and I mean she
- 2:57Speaker 1: may cuss of mind as well, just like us, you
- 2:59Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, But.
- 3:00Speaker 2: She's talking about at least with the pop culture therapy stuff.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Is she talking about accountability as well she does? Or
- 3:05Speaker 2: is it just like everyone's a problem being.
- 3:08Speaker 1: On the episode last night got a little bit don't
- 3:11Speaker 1: let talks that people run over you kind of thing,
- 3:12Speaker 1: And so afterwards I was like, maybe just give without me,
- 3:16Speaker 1: just give some context. Let's talk about in a real relationship,
- 3:19Speaker 1: you know, because words like toxic in words like boundaries
- 3:23Speaker 1: and things can be really used as if no one's
- 3:26Speaker 1: ever allowed to have a fault around you, right, it's
- 3:28Speaker 1: kind of de humanizing, right, so like I know why,
- 3:31Speaker 1: and I think in the extremes of abuse or other things,
- 3:34Speaker 1: you know, but even the word abuse, she used that
- 3:36Speaker 1: a lot. It was like, okay, let's talk about what
- 3:38Speaker 1: really constitutes abuse the relationship. It's not just your uncomfortable
- 3:42Speaker 1: or even you have constant friction necessarily you know, someone
- 3:45Speaker 1: not listening well or whatever, like before you throw that
- 3:48Speaker 1: term on there, I can't tell you what that term
- 3:50Speaker 1: is necessarily for you. But we've kind of come to
- 3:53Speaker 1: the place where we can use those terms because we
- 3:56Speaker 1: say I get to decide for me. Then now we
- 3:59Speaker 1: don't have a standard, yeah, which which if you're an
- 4:02Speaker 1: actual theory circles, there's usually a standard for that. They
- 4:05Speaker 1: would go, yeah, we wouldn't classify that ash or doesn't
- 4:08Speaker 1: fall into our book of It's like burned.
- 4:09Speaker 2: You would if you go to like somebody, you say, like,
- 4:11Speaker 2: I've burned my hand, Like burns have degrees, right that
- 4:14Speaker 2: we've decided our degrees, right, you don't get to say, like,
- 4:17Speaker 2: but it feels like a third degree burned. They go,
- 4:19Speaker 2: it's not a third degree burn though, yeah, but it
- 4:21Speaker 2: feels for me. It is for me it's a third
- 4:22Speaker 2: degree burn. You goes, this isn't this is an abrasion.
- 4:26Speaker 1: That best. Well it was interesting though, I mean, but
- 4:30Speaker 1: I also like that she's listening to something because she
- 4:33Speaker 1: I want my kid to have.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Well, they're not just she's always so it's just like
- 4:36Speaker 2: an entertainment hole. It's just like a whatever, yeah, something
- 4:39Speaker 2: just to clock out. She's thinking about her thoughts.
- 4:41Speaker 1: That's okay. One one episode she was like, hey, listen,
- 4:44Speaker 1: I'll have these friends who, you know, act like they
- 4:46Speaker 1: don't want to be their parents anymore. Their parents are
- 4:48Speaker 1: the worst. I'm always like, you need to still listen
- 4:50Speaker 1: to your parents, like you're you know, like, come on, man,
- 4:53Speaker 1: hold on. You know I've been paying this lady. Yeah,
- 4:57Speaker 1: come on, it will send you a hundred bucks if
- 4:59Speaker 1: you'll say this until the podcast. But I don't know.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Yeah, but my word of the year, I don't know
- 5:05Speaker 2: what it would be. I'm trying to think. I don't
- 5:07Speaker 2: really set resolutions anymore, and I probably should because I
- 5:10Speaker 2: think it shows we throw it out, you know, you
- 5:12Speaker 2: throw out the whole thing. You go like, oh, it's
- 5:14Speaker 2: just something you're going to give up on, and people
- 5:16Speaker 2: do it and they freak out and they and but
- 5:18Speaker 2: there is something to it, like setting a goal or
- 5:21Speaker 2: saying like I'm going to challenge myself this way this year.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I need to read more. Probably, Yeah, it's I just
- 5:28Speaker 1: learned to read with anything at all. Really, It's very
- 5:32Speaker 1: like I think we used to quote many years ago
- 5:34Speaker 1: in the podcast about some guy who doesn't set yearly
- 5:38Speaker 1: resolutions but set sets daily resolutions. You know, Oh is
- 5:41Speaker 1: that right? Yeah, so that's an interesting idea of a
- 5:43Speaker 1: daily we should be setting more. But I actually am.
- 5:47Speaker 1: I'm not anti resolution. You know, I've been through what
- 5:49Speaker 1: I've been pastoring twenty something twenty five years now, and
- 5:54Speaker 1: there comes a place where at first you're doing all
- 5:56Speaker 1: these New Year's resolution type sermons, and then you get
- 5:58Speaker 1: skeptical because you've done it so long, and then you're
- 6:00Speaker 1: kind of poopooing all of it right, and then I'm
- 6:02Speaker 1: kind of I've been to the cycle. Now are going, well,
- 6:04Speaker 1: there's a benefit now you're back. There's a time in
- 6:06Speaker 1: life right where it's beneficial to or even a time
- 6:11Speaker 1: in the year it's beneficial to recognize.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Well, it's like taking stock of yourself. Yeah, is always good. Probably,
- 6:18Speaker 2: But I will say to this and We talked about
- 6:20Speaker 2: the therapy thing earlier, but there was a clip where
- 6:22Speaker 2: a guy talked about how like therapy, language and people
- 6:25Speaker 2: are in all this therapy, but are we better off
- 6:27Speaker 2: for it?
- 6:28Speaker 1: And then somebody was making the point of like, is
- 6:31Speaker 1: it healthy to spend this much time thinking about yourself? Yeah?
- 6:36Speaker 2: And I think that's why I like, if we just
- 6:39Speaker 2: make a therapy is like a recovery thing of like
- 6:42Speaker 2: I need to heal from this or I need to
- 6:44Speaker 2: maintain my mental health by going to therapy.
- 6:47Speaker 1: But if it becomes just like.
- 6:50Speaker 2: In other words, it becomes so normalized as just like,
- 6:52Speaker 2: well everybody goes to therapy and it's just this thing
- 6:55Speaker 2: where like we pay a person to listen to us
- 6:57Speaker 2: talk about ourselves for an hour. And if it just
- 6:59Speaker 2: becomes that like this exercise is just like vomiting out
- 7:02Speaker 2: your ID on somethe I.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Prefer a mix because there's two different fields here. I
- 7:09Speaker 1: prefer a mix of therapy and coaching for that very reason. Right,
- 7:13Speaker 1: So it's gonna like you have some accountability building. They're
- 7:16Speaker 1: gonna say, hey, maybe you should try to do this differently,
- 7:19Speaker 1: because often therapists won't tell you.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Oh no, I know my brother talked about that, like
- 7:23Speaker 2: he has a counselor, and he said, he'll go, like,
- 7:26Speaker 2: but what what should I do?
- 7:27Speaker 1: And they'll go, I don't really do that. Yeah, and
- 7:29Speaker 1: he really frustrates him. It's hard, yeah, and he'll go.
- 7:32Speaker 2: But at some point, I think at some point the
- 7:35Speaker 2: guy was like, yeah, I would do this, Like he
- 7:38Speaker 2: gave up. He finally was like, you should do this.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I'll tell my therapists, but like, look, you know, if
- 7:43Speaker 1: you see me doing something totally crazy or off, like
- 7:46Speaker 1: I need you to speak up, they'll just listen to me,
- 7:49Speaker 1: like tell me you know.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Well, and sometimes that's what you're paying for, right if
- 7:51Speaker 2: you go to a therapist, aren't you sort of paying
- 7:53Speaker 2: for that? And maybe the therapist sense is this you're
- 7:55Speaker 2: paying for that blame shifting of like well.
- 7:57Speaker 1: You told me that's why. Well, they also want you
- 8:00Speaker 1: to own your own life, yeah, and not and to
- 8:04Speaker 1: be heard. But I'm the kind of guy and it's
- 8:07Speaker 1: so funny and I'm not. I don't like the stereotype
- 8:09Speaker 1: male and female because I don't think that this is
- 8:12Speaker 1: true for all male all females, but for me, if
- 8:16Speaker 1: I'm in a place where I rarely just want to
- 8:18Speaker 1: be heard, right, I don't just want to be heard.
- 8:21Speaker 1: If you have an answer, give me the answer, Please
- 8:23Speaker 1: fix me, fix me if you if you know how
- 8:26Speaker 1: that's a very enneagram six thing more than it is
- 8:28Speaker 1: a male thing, probably, But you hear all that, even
- 8:31Speaker 1: if you watch television where it's I just I just
- 8:33Speaker 1: didn't want you to. It's the nail on the head video, right,
- 8:36Speaker 1: She's got a nail in her head, and I don't
- 8:37Speaker 1: you always want to fix it. I don't want to,
- 8:39Speaker 1: you know, And he's like, dude, just take the nip. No,
- 8:41Speaker 1: you know, well that must be really hard, you know,
- 8:43Speaker 1: like I am. It's I don't want that, Like I
- 8:46Speaker 1: would prefer for you to say, there's a nail in
- 8:47Speaker 1: your head and please help me know how to take
- 8:50Speaker 1: it out. But so when we were watching some tailor
- 8:53Speaker 1: share Taylor share it and show no a sponsor and
- 9:00Speaker 1: one of the characters they're in a romantic but she's
- 9:02Speaker 1: an attorney. She's getting on a plane. She's all upset
- 9:05Speaker 1: because her love interest said some really hard things too.
- 9:09Speaker 2: I can't imagine a Taylor's hair love interest said something
- 9:12Speaker 2: her full heart field.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Probably another guy gets on and goes, what's wrong, you know,
- 9:16Speaker 1: and she goes, well, truthfully, what he said was true.
- 9:21Speaker 1: It was hard and he goes, yeah, the truth. That's
- 9:23Speaker 1: a way of doing that, right. So the love interest
- 9:26Speaker 1: is in the back of the plane. They're they're you know,
- 9:28Speaker 1: separated from each other, and she's just up here stewing
- 9:30Speaker 1: on the fact that what he said was true. And
- 9:32Speaker 1: I turned to lor and I go, I don't get that.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Like the moment for me that I someone tells me
- 9:39Speaker 1: a hard truth, like I go, okay, well, now I
- 9:41Speaker 1: know what to work on, Like I want to get
- 9:42Speaker 1: I want to get start.
- 9:43Speaker 2: I never discarded, though, I mean, like that person's delusional
- 9:45Speaker 2: or that person's just saying that to hurt me.
- 9:47Speaker 1: You would never like, well, I think weigh it against
- 9:50Speaker 1: what you know. I think it was so evident to
- 9:53Speaker 1: her it really was true, right. No, Yeah, some things
- 9:55Speaker 1: I had to go, hey, I'll I'll come to you
- 9:59Speaker 1: and I'll go hey, you know, and you're like, yeah,
- 10:00Speaker 1: I'm the person that said there always the one. But no,
- 10:03Speaker 1: I'll go to my wife all the time like, hey,
- 10:04Speaker 1: I'm feeling this. Do you think that I'm in the
- 10:07Speaker 1: wrong or right here? I need to know if I'm
- 10:08Speaker 1: in the wrong, but the reason is not to go well,
- 10:11Speaker 1: can't change that even if I can't, Like, there's a
- 10:13Speaker 1: lot of things I think I can't change about myself.
- 10:15Speaker 1: But I want to be in I want to be
- 10:18Speaker 1: on the path of going towards it.
- 10:20Speaker 2: I want to be I don't know, I want to
- 10:22Speaker 2: be on the path of least resistance. That's that's I
- 10:26Speaker 2: think that's my phrase of the year, least resistance. Let's
- 10:30Speaker 2: just let's just give into the malaise. I want to
- 10:34Speaker 2: be funny, if you just decided to be mediocre for
- 10:36Speaker 2: a year because you're like, I'm tired of all this trying.
- 10:39Speaker 2: I'm just gonna let myself go this year. Nobody ever
- 10:42Speaker 2: says that. Nobody ever starts channinguarys Like, you know.
- 10:45Speaker 1: What I'm gonna call my my word of the year
- 10:47Speaker 1: is fallow. Yeah, just let it all life, Yeah, all
- 10:50Speaker 1: it's time. Sometimes you go at the ground heel yeah. Rest.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Like I watched this whole video in farming.
- 10:56Speaker 2: I didn't know about this, but sometimes farmers plant different
- 10:59Speaker 2: crops year to year, and part of that's because you
- 11:02Speaker 2: you weed out disease that way, because like if you
- 11:05Speaker 2: plant potatoes year after year, these weird certain things start
- 11:09Speaker 2: to come in.
- 11:09Speaker 1: See the potato famine in Ireland.
- 11:11Speaker 2: So what you do is you go potatoes and you
- 11:13Speaker 2: go like groundcover. You go totally different. You're not even
- 11:16Speaker 2: farming sometime that's going to be a vegetable. Now you're
- 11:18Speaker 2: gonna just do groundcover like monkey grass, and then you
- 11:22Speaker 2: come back and go, you know what, turnips And that's
- 11:25Speaker 2: what I'm this is a monkey grass here for me.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just gonna gonna grow it all. I'm gonna
- 11:30Speaker 1: grow something that people plant around the pretty plants. Yeah,
- 11:33Speaker 1: you know, like I'm afraid at this age if I
- 11:37Speaker 1: did that, I would not survive the year. Yeah, well
- 11:40Speaker 1: came like one hundred pounds, have a heart attack and
- 11:43Speaker 1: be like, well he was in his fallow year. Well,
- 11:45Speaker 1: here's the thing.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Monkey grass is very slimming, so you just you know,
- 11:50Speaker 2: it's like you hide behind a bulky sweater for that year,
- 11:54Speaker 2: and you.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Just I'm already doing that if I if I went,
- 11:56Speaker 1: if I did it now at this stage, we're using.
- 11:59Speaker 2: A slimming filter on John right now in this video,
- 12:02Speaker 2: John's four hundred pounds.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Yeah, guys, I've put on a few. No, you look great.
- 12:07Speaker 1: To come on, feel I hope.
- 12:09Speaker 2: That we kick to the sponsors now that it's something
- 12:11Speaker 2: like better Help or something.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Better help, or it's going to be like a diet
- 12:15Speaker 1: a one screens.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going to happen one day, we say it.
- 12:20Speaker 1: What if the AI starts making ads on the spot
- 12:23Speaker 1: from the things we just talked about? Are you ready
- 12:25Speaker 1: for your life to lie fallow for a year? Fallow
- 12:27Speaker 1: dot com and it just went and bought a website,
- 12:30Speaker 1: created a product that really you're getting into your world
- 12:34Speaker 1: through the looking glass. Now I want to write some
- 12:36Speaker 1: sort of fictional futuristic thing like that when because I
- 12:39Speaker 1: can think of all the things that could go wrong,
- 12:40Speaker 1: it probably make great fiction. I think you're right, that's
- 12:42Speaker 1: we can find a way truth is stranger than fiction.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Finally channel all this negative energy. But John, let's take
- 12:48Speaker 1: a minute and here on a few of our find sponsors.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Cand we're back, John, I have an update for you. Okay,
- 13:06Speaker 1: So I have to tell the whole story.
- 13:07Speaker 2: I guess to get to the update, or I could
- 13:09Speaker 2: do the update first and then tell the backstory.
- 13:11Speaker 1: What do you think is better? Since I don't know
- 13:12Speaker 1: what it is, you have to make that decision on
- 13:14Speaker 1: your own.
- 13:15Speaker 2: I want to tell a little bit of the story.
- 13:17Speaker 2: So we talked about this in October. October I had
- 13:20Speaker 2: a crazy month. I did events back to back to
- 13:22Speaker 2: back there and I stayed there a whole week. Well,
- 13:24Speaker 2: one of the events I did was a little comedy
- 13:26Speaker 2: club in Gallenburg, right and because we had added Comody
- 13:31Speaker 2: Ballet Day Commoday. No, it was a New Jersey Hustle.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I was not Nude John Nude I.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Was going to say.
- 13:43Speaker 2: I was going to say, no New Jersey because it's
- 13:46Speaker 2: this Jersey, just Jersey, not New Jersey, and definitely not
- 13:48Speaker 2: Nude Jersey. That's a whole other club that I wouldn't
- 13:52Speaker 2: I'm not invited to, but Jersey Hustle Comedy Club. So
- 13:55Speaker 2: it's just this one hundred seater pizza place that has
- 13:58Speaker 2: comedy in the stage. I was there to do these
- 14:00Speaker 2: big Women of Joy and the senior adults conference was
- 14:04Speaker 2: like seven or eight thousand people. So I was like,
- 14:06Speaker 2: let's go do this thing. I don't care and let's
- 14:08Speaker 2: see if I can. And we sold it out. So
- 14:10Speaker 2: we're there. Well, Alex Valudo, who's my buddy Greig comic,
- 14:13Speaker 2: he comes and opens the show. During his set, you
- 14:16Speaker 2: can go listen to the old episode if you want
- 14:18Speaker 2: the full breakdown.
- 14:18Speaker 1: But somebody had a medical event during his set and
- 14:22Speaker 1: passed out, and they said aspirin, find baby aspirin, and
- 14:26Speaker 1: I thought the guy died. I mean, I was like,
- 14:30Speaker 1: the show's over. This guy has died. He comes to
- 14:33Speaker 1: after like forty five seconds of being non responsive and
- 14:36Speaker 1: throws up, and then they clear the comedy club to
- 14:39Speaker 1: clean him up and get an ambulance there. And then
- 14:44Speaker 1: the comedy club goes.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Comedy club guy comes over and he goes, we'll restart
- 14:47Speaker 2: the show once we get everybody back in the room.
- 14:49Speaker 2: I go, we're not having a show. Nobody's coming back
- 14:52Speaker 2: in this room. Well they all came back. Yeah, ninety
- 14:54Speaker 2: nine out of that there's one hundred people. Ninety nine
- 14:56Speaker 2: people come back and and I was like, well, clearly
- 15:01Speaker 2: we don't leave the ninety nine.
- 15:02Speaker 1: They go, I'll this mos I to say, one bottle
- 15:04Speaker 1: of puke on the wall. I don't know it was,
- 15:06Speaker 1: but so I was under this pre I was like,
- 15:08Speaker 1: what do we do? And I still did not know.
- 15:10Speaker 1: They said, well, he was conscious when they took him away.
- 15:13Speaker 1: He's probably gonna be okay. But we didn't know and
- 15:16Speaker 1: now I have to go out and do this show. Well,
- 15:18Speaker 1: I go out and try to muddle through a show.
- 15:19Speaker 1: I sent Alex back out there to do like five
- 15:22Speaker 1: minutes to get them out of like funeral mode. Yeah,
- 15:25Speaker 1: but it was a very weird thing because I was like,
- 15:27Speaker 1: this is me like doing jokes on the Titanic. If
- 15:30Speaker 1: this guy dies, and it's going to be in the paper,
- 15:32Speaker 1: like they had to keep going with their dumb comedy show.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Meanwhile a man's life hung in the balance. Yeah.
- 15:37Speaker 2: So I felt very weird about it, but I was like, Okay,
- 15:39Speaker 2: we'll try. Because these people bought a ticket and they
- 15:41Speaker 2: all came back and you know whatever, we do. The
- 15:45Speaker 2: show shows and I get them back to laughing. I'm
- 15:47Speaker 2: fifteen minutes in. I'm doing fine. It's like a regular show.
- 15:50Speaker 2: I mean, I've acknowledged the weirdness I had to, right
- 15:53Speaker 2: and then I started getting heckled by a drunk guy.
- 15:55Speaker 1: I had to throw the drunk guy out. Yeah, I'm
- 15:58Speaker 1: sorry about that.
- 15:58Speaker 2: So all that said, I have tried to find out
- 16:01Speaker 2: who this guy was who had the medical event to
- 16:04Speaker 2: see if he's okay, and it's really grieved me.
- 16:06Speaker 1: I'm like, because he put a different name on the ticket.
- 16:08Speaker 2: He put a nang on the ticket, Nacho, Lee Bray
- 16:10Speaker 2: whatever whatever his email was. Yeah, he just signs the
- 16:13Speaker 2: ticket with that, and so they I didn't know his name,
- 16:16Speaker 2: and I was like, hey, stopped being so if you're
- 16:17Speaker 2: gonna have a medical event to comedy show, maybe should
- 16:20Speaker 2: have been so cheeky with your ticket name, you know,
- 16:22Speaker 2: come on, Nacho. So we've put out a search on
- 16:25Speaker 2: the podcast. If you're Nacho, let me know you're okay.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Whatever.
- 16:28Speaker 2: So all that said, we still don't know it. This
- 16:30Speaker 2: was October, and I've kind of just been like, well,
- 16:32Speaker 2: hope he was all right, and I keep hearing from
- 16:33Speaker 2: other people. No, I heard he was all right, but
- 16:35Speaker 2: do you know, No, we don't know. I get a
- 16:38Speaker 2: comment on YouTube.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Yesterday, come on one of my videos, come on.
- 16:42Speaker 2: And again this is someone who could be listening to
- 16:44Speaker 2: the podcast and decided to like generate a narrative like,
- 16:48Speaker 2: you know, this could be not real, but it feels
- 16:51Speaker 2: like they have a lot of details in this comic ark.
- 16:53Speaker 2: This is just a comment. Okay, So I've not been
- 16:55Speaker 2: reached out to by email yet. I'm going to try
- 16:56Speaker 2: to establish contact with this person. Nacho Lee Brave five
- 16:59Speaker 2: three six five, come on, says hey, Johnny, you had
- 17:03Speaker 2: to follow my act in Gallenburg in October. My heart
- 17:06Speaker 2: stopped and I passed out on the floor. Don't know
- 17:09Speaker 2: how you get people laughing after a leading like that,
- 17:11Speaker 2: but I'm sure you did. Never did get to see you.
- 17:14Speaker 1: But I did get a nice helicopter ride, So.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Sorry I stopped the show. I'm sure you can come
- 17:21Speaker 2: with a great skit out of that experience. Let me
- 17:23Speaker 2: let me just stop there.
- 17:25Speaker 1: We haven't done skits in years, and people assume that,
- 17:28Speaker 1: like you're going to when something horrible happens, that well,
- 17:30Speaker 1: this will be great. Yeah, And you're like, it's been
- 17:33Speaker 1: a story, we've told, We've told the story. I'm not
- 17:36Speaker 1: gonna make fun of a guy, especially if I don't
- 17:38Speaker 1: know if he's okay. I'm not a callous monster. Yeah,
- 17:41Speaker 1: I'm a normal monster. I hope. I'm very sensitive monster.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I'm like Frankenstein. But I don't throw the blind girl
- 17:48Speaker 1: in the lake.
- 17:49Speaker 2: I like, you know what I'm saying, right, I give
- 17:51Speaker 2: her like a nice Barett for her hair or something.
- 17:53Speaker 2: I'm like, uh go, hey, don't touch the bolt, sweetie.
- 18:00Speaker 2: That hurts Anyway, the last part is hope to get
- 18:03Speaker 2: the chance to see you for a whole show. Yeah,
- 18:06Speaker 2: And I immediately commented, dude, holy moly, Yeah, I'm so
- 18:09Speaker 2: glad you're all right. We've been talking about you forever.
- 18:11Speaker 2: I've been thinking about that moment since it happened. And
- 18:14Speaker 2: I gave him like an email to try to reach
- 18:16Speaker 2: out to me because I don't know how to give
- 18:17Speaker 2: in because somebody else could read that email and be like,
- 18:20Speaker 2: let's have some fun with Johnny, Like how do you
- 18:21Speaker 2: reach out to a person that you only know him
- 18:24Speaker 2: through a YouTube comment. We're in that era of technology
- 18:28Speaker 2: where it's like I still don't know.
- 18:30Speaker 1: If it's great digital chasm, say, it feels like this
- 18:32Speaker 1: is the real guy.
- 18:33Speaker 2: He had a lot of details. Yeah, but anyway, all
- 18:36Speaker 2: that said, not show. I'm so glad you're okay if
- 18:39Speaker 2: that's you. And I'm trying to establish because I want
- 18:41Speaker 2: to interview him for the show, like we're gonna have
- 18:43Speaker 2: him on the pod, Okay, I want to hear his side.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Of things, all right. I gotta know. Yeah, he's seen
- 18:49Speaker 1: the seen some things. Yeah he was out. Yeah that's crazy.
- 18:53Speaker 1: So uh, anyway, that's a good update.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Because we needed I needed some closure there a little bit,
- 18:59Speaker 2: because I've always kind of like, did I do the
- 19:00Speaker 2: right thing? Because you know, obviously you get into this
- 19:03Speaker 2: line of work, the show must go on. It's like
- 19:05Speaker 2: a phrase, but like, come on, man, I don't want
- 19:09Speaker 2: to be that guy that just know.
- 19:10Speaker 1: It goes Well, look, no matter what the you know,
- 19:14Speaker 1: the wheels of my dumb jokes have to move on
- 19:17Speaker 1: and trample over anybody. Like, I'm not that guy I want.
- 19:20Speaker 2: I wanted to stop the show that night because I thought,
- 19:22Speaker 2: how can anybody do a show after this? How could
- 19:25Speaker 2: it ever get back to laps? And I think people
- 19:28Speaker 2: that were there were so rattled by it that they
- 19:30Speaker 2: needed some kind of relief from it because we had
- 19:33Speaker 2: all experienced this thing together. So that was a way
- 19:36Speaker 2: to kind of decompress in the room.
- 19:37Speaker 1: That's probably why the guy got drunk. Yeah, yeah, I
- 19:40Speaker 1: don't know. I think that guy was just maybe he
- 19:42Speaker 1: came drunk. Yeah he was.
- 19:43Speaker 2: He was already a little sauced when he got there. Yeah,
- 19:46Speaker 2: this happens, but anyway, not Choe. We're so glad you're okay, yea,
- 19:50Speaker 2: and please keep reaching out. Let's let's do lunch and
- 19:54Speaker 2: any any of one of my shows that you want
- 19:55Speaker 2: to come to. There's tickets in your name, but I
- 19:58Speaker 2: need to know that name. I don't want to know the
- 20:02Speaker 2: real name.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Name is already taken. Yeah, yeah bye not Yeah, that's
- 20:08Speaker 1: very that's great. Hey, happy ending. It is a happy ending,
- 20:12Speaker 1: and I'm so glad.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know how you're gonna segue out of luck.
- 20:18Speaker 1: That reminds me of a quote from this theologian. Yeah,
- 20:21Speaker 1: it is my segment, though it's we they talked it's
- 20:24Speaker 1: not we, Johnny, they they they talked about that. Oh
- 20:43Speaker 1: the other day you had the video up or whatever,
- 20:45Speaker 1: because you're sitting at UH for the editing, and it
- 20:48Speaker 1: was right of the part where we were singing along
- 20:50Speaker 1: with it, right, and you just it's become so normal
- 20:54Speaker 1: to us now. Yeah, but it looks ridiculous. If you
- 20:57Speaker 1: guys are watching the YouTube like this is fun, you
- 21:00Speaker 1: should watch the subscribe on YouTube. Go find the old
- 21:03Speaker 1: videos on talk.
- 21:04Speaker 2: About That podcast dot com and a bunch of episodes
- 21:08Speaker 2: you can catch up on.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Yeah, subscribe, share yeah, out of all that stuff, smash
- 21:13Speaker 1: that subscribersh that like button aw Pink born eighteen eighty
- 21:21Speaker 1: six died in nineteen fifty two, born in Nottingham, England. Yeah. Uh,
- 21:27Speaker 1: he was the sheriff. I'm just kidding. He was. Actually.
- 21:30Speaker 1: It was interesting with this guy is that he pastored
- 21:32Speaker 1: several churches other things. He was a like a Calvinist
- 21:36Speaker 1: theologian kind of brought like Puritan theology into more of
- 21:39Speaker 1: the modern space for them and was really like a
- 21:44Speaker 1: total unknown. Wrote a bunch of books, but really unknown, okay.
- 21:47Speaker 1: And then afterwards after he died.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Are you afraid of being that? Is that what your
- 21:51Speaker 2: Is that your deepest fear. I don't think it's a
- 21:53Speaker 2: fear at all. I think that'd be awesome.
- 21:55Speaker 1: But you have something that you die in poverty helps
- 21:57Speaker 1: people later. I mean, then you won't have any pride,
- 22:00Speaker 1: But you want both, right. I wanted to write a
- 22:02Speaker 1: book called better Off Dead because I really had the
- 22:05Speaker 1: thought because I'm always in the way so much. It's like,
- 22:07Speaker 1: if I do make anything any better off if I
- 22:09Speaker 1: if I was dead, because then you could actually use
- 22:11Speaker 1: it without a wordy about me being in the way,
- 22:14Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Yeah, I mean I.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Think about my legacy, but I also think about paying
- 22:19Speaker 2: my light bill.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I get to do that too. Interestingly enough,
- 22:24Speaker 1: before I do the quote this conversation light Bill, I
- 22:27Speaker 1: had this conversation yesterday. They're gonna be listening because I was.
- 22:29Speaker 1: I made a little speech at the staff table about
- 22:32Speaker 1: like I forget who, I forget what the what the
- 22:35Speaker 1: context was, But I was talking about how you and
- 22:38Speaker 1: I all the time like it's good to be small enough.
- 22:43Speaker 1: If you get to do something creative and make somewhat
- 22:46Speaker 1: of a living at it, that's huge. But to not
- 22:48Speaker 1: We're talking about like how people can bring back and
- 22:50Speaker 1: cancel you for anything you've ever done in your past. Yeah,
- 22:53Speaker 1: and it's like, yeah, I'm not big enough to anybody
- 22:56Speaker 1: you care, you know. And then but some of the
- 22:59Speaker 1: artists and people at the table who were younger, who
- 23:02Speaker 1: were in our world, you know, they were very they
- 23:05Speaker 1: really wrestled with it. There was like a but I
- 23:09Speaker 1: want to be I want my music or my art
- 23:12Speaker 1: or whatever to go, you know. And I was like,
- 23:13Speaker 1: well that it can. Well I'm thinking like, but if
- 23:16Speaker 1: you were, if you were, I forgot who I named.
- 23:20Speaker 1: You know, there's certain people they're so big that everything
- 23:23Speaker 1: they do, right, I think I named Nate. Whatever Nate
- 23:26Speaker 1: does now is I mean, you know he could bring
- 23:29Speaker 1: in and get away from it.
- 23:30Speaker 2: The scale of his fame has like there's a scale
- 23:34Speaker 2: that you get to where the pain in the butt
- 23:37Speaker 2: of being that big, right, I wonder if the money
- 23:40Speaker 2: they're giving you is enough for that pain in the.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Butt and think about how how far and fast you
- 23:46Speaker 1: can fall?
- 23:47Speaker 2: Yeah, because now you're now the sniper fire. Bob Carlisle
- 23:51Speaker 2: said that Bob Carlile.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Was just this Christian artist who was in bands and
- 23:54Speaker 1: he did a head of solo career and then he
- 23:56Speaker 1: did Butterfly Kisses and it became like an international small
- 24:01Speaker 1: and he said it was one of the most miserable
- 24:02Speaker 1: times in his life. He said, the sniper fire, when
- 24:04Speaker 1: you're on the top of the mountain is way more
- 24:07Speaker 1: intense interesting because you become a target.
- 24:09Speaker 2: You become like you go from like who is this guy?
- 24:12Speaker 2: To like, let's get this guy? Yeah, really really quick.
- 24:15Speaker 2: I don't want to get I don't ever want to
- 24:16Speaker 2: get to the let's get.
- 24:17Speaker 1: This guy now. I would have wanted that when I
- 24:21Speaker 1: was younger. Now I'm like, no, no, there's because you
- 24:23Speaker 1: think you will be able to handle well, look, if
- 24:24Speaker 1: they wrote you a big enough check, you can handle it,
- 24:26Speaker 1: and he'll just buy a bulletproof vest. You go. No,
- 24:29Speaker 1: I don't want the sniper fire. I just want to because.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Again, I'm a comedian, so my weakness is I want
- 24:34Speaker 2: to be liked by everybody. Yeah, I craft an act
- 24:37Speaker 2: to please a crowd of people, so it's hard not to.
- 24:40Speaker 2: How do you how do you break yourself from people
- 24:42Speaker 2: pleasing when that's the job.
- 24:44Speaker 1: So I don't want sniper fire. I want to be loved, which,
- 24:48Speaker 1: by the way, I had to learn the hard way
- 24:51Speaker 1: that that is not the job when you're a pastor
- 24:53Speaker 1: and the contrary to popular belief. So that's a good thing.
- 24:57Speaker 1: When you've learned that, it's definitely.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Good that you've finally figured it out because we don't
- 25:01Speaker 2: love you.
- 25:02Speaker 1: And I'm not one of those guys Like I watched
- 25:03Speaker 1: those of these videos. I love it because it's the guy.
- 25:06Speaker 1: It's it's like a camera on just on a face,
- 25:08Speaker 1: and then he's watching the video like he's there, and
- 25:11Speaker 1: it's always some pastor do something crazy, you know, and
- 25:14Speaker 1: it comes back to him and he's kind of got
- 25:15Speaker 1: these doe eyes, you know, and that's why. Or it's
- 25:18Speaker 1: the or it's the caption of the day you bring
- 25:20Speaker 1: your friend to church. You know, I think nothing weird
- 25:22Speaker 1: what happened kind of thing, you know, which for us
- 25:25Speaker 1: covering Pentecostal kids, that's a real Oh wait, Please don't
- 25:28Speaker 1: please don't let sister Shirley do the dance. Please don't
- 25:30Speaker 1: let you don't bring them on Sunay night. Don't bring
- 25:34Speaker 1: a friend to Sunday night church.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Are there Sunday Nights still going on? Probably out there
- 25:38Speaker 2: somewhere in rural areas. Anyway, I feel like I've derailed
- 25:41Speaker 2: your quote. So you never got to the quote because
- 25:43Speaker 2: I stopped you at a W pink And the fact
- 25:46Speaker 2: that he became a bigger name after he was gone.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Sorry, John, No, I like that that's question. Instead of
- 25:50Speaker 1: a river, God often gives us a brook which may
- 25:53Speaker 1: be running today and dried up tomorrow, why to teach
- 25:57Speaker 1: us not to rest in our blessings and the blesser himself?
- 26:02Speaker 1: Pretty good? Yeah? That brook thing really speaks to me,
- 26:06Speaker 1: always has ever since college. I remember when we thought
- 26:11Speaker 1: about leaving the first church that you and I were
- 26:14Speaker 1: volunteering in. Yeah, and I felt like I had like
- 26:18Speaker 1: this kind of holy spirit moment because I'd never left
- 26:20Speaker 1: a church before I left college. I was raised in
- 26:23Speaker 1: one church my whole life to go to college. And
- 26:25Speaker 1: now but that the pastor guy's quite frankly, yeah, it
- 26:29Speaker 1: was an untenable situation. He just begins saying some absolutely
- 26:34Speaker 1: not just theologically insane things, but probably you know, yeah,
- 26:38Speaker 1: clinically insane. Yeah. And so, but I still was wrestling
- 26:42Speaker 1: because I mean, I'm a loyalist, you know. And and
- 26:45Speaker 1: so when plus we're raising that thing of like this
- 26:47Speaker 1: is the man of God, I didn't have that feeling
- 26:50Speaker 1: as much as just I don't know, like it.
- 26:52Speaker 2: It feels like it feels like you're losing.
- 26:55Speaker 1: To walk away.
- 26:57Speaker 2: You're still you're admitting a little bit.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Yeah, And so I remember having this this I don't
- 27:05Speaker 1: know if my if our friend set it to us,
- 27:08Speaker 1: I can't remember. On we were on a band trip.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Our friend has passed away now Brian, or if it
- 27:13Speaker 1: just came to me, I can't remember. But somewhere in
- 27:15Speaker 1: there there was a discussion and it was the idea.
- 27:18Speaker 1: The idea was I thought of Elijah. And during the famine,
- 27:23Speaker 1: Elijah goes to this brook. God leads into this brook
- 27:27Speaker 1: and the ravens bring him food every day and he
- 27:30Speaker 1: drinks from the brook by this little cave, I think,
- 27:32Speaker 1: if I remember, and nothing fancy, just enough right, and
- 27:38Speaker 1: he lives that way for a couple of years. I
- 27:40Speaker 1: think it's I think it's a seven year famine maybe,
- 27:42Speaker 1: And I should have looked up the story. Guys, I'm sorry.
- 27:44Speaker 1: I haven't toeln that one a while. And then one
- 27:46Speaker 1: day the brook dries up. And I think about that
- 27:50Speaker 1: moment all the time. How the brook drives up for us, guys,
- 27:55Speaker 1: it just does. There are just moments when a thing
- 27:58Speaker 1: worked and then it just doesn't. It was one of
- 27:59Speaker 1: the it was this very jarring thing for me in life.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I remember it happening in youth ministry. I told someone
- 28:05Speaker 1: the other day, I mean, I feel like PJ had
- 28:09Speaker 1: a job he could do well for a long long time.
- 28:12Speaker 1: It could connect with teenagers and do this stuff. And
- 28:13Speaker 1: then I remember the day I stood up to speak
- 28:15Speaker 1: on stage and I did not have them like I
- 28:18Speaker 1: used to. They had phones in their hands, and I
- 28:21Speaker 1: was like, this is different. It just changed tonight, everything
- 28:25Speaker 1: just changed. And other days when things that used to
- 28:28Speaker 1: work just don't, and the brook drives up, and it's
- 28:31Speaker 1: very it's a very betraying feeling of like you don't
- 28:35Speaker 1: realize you're like, God, why would you do this to me?
- 28:39Speaker 1: Why would you? You know? And then the story and
- 28:43Speaker 1: I remember that thing about leaving the church. You know,
- 28:45Speaker 1: it was the idea of, hey, it's not it's not
- 28:48Speaker 1: that anything's wrong. It just means there's something next to come.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Because in the story, Elijah then goes and finds the
- 28:54Speaker 1: widow who's about to use the last bit of oil.
- 28:56Speaker 1: She has to make these this bread or she calls
- 28:59Speaker 1: the cake, and she's going to feed it to her son,
- 29:01Speaker 1: a little boy, and then they're just going to die
- 29:04Speaker 1: of starvation, and Elijah convinces her and I hope this
- 29:09Speaker 1: is Elijah, and elijhah, I think it was Elijah. And
- 29:13Speaker 1: he convinces her, like, hey, make it for me instead,
- 29:16Speaker 1: and she does out of faith. And then the oil
- 29:18Speaker 1: never runs out and he begins to live with the
- 29:22Speaker 1: widow and her son for years now. So God provided
- 29:25Speaker 1: through the oil instead of through the brook now and
- 29:28Speaker 1: provided for two other people. And then when the sun dies,
- 29:33Speaker 1: Elijah raises him from the dead. So he's also there
- 29:35Speaker 1: for this great tragedy to not only help them survive.
- 29:40Speaker 2: But she wouldn't if the Brook hadn't ride out, he
- 29:42Speaker 2: would have been forced into that situation.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Yeah, it's good stuff. So the idea of if you're out,
- 29:49Speaker 1: I mean, guys, I mean, I'm just being as real
- 29:50Speaker 1: as I can with you. And Johnny knows a lot
- 29:52Speaker 1: of my personal life. I'm not going to go into details,
- 29:56Speaker 1: but there have been some Brook drying up things in
- 29:59Speaker 1: the last several years that are just hard, and they're
- 30:01Speaker 1: hard and Lord and I talk about them a lot,
- 30:04Speaker 1: and things I can't explain. That's the thing Elijah in
- 30:07Speaker 1: the moment did not have an explanation, just hey, trust
- 30:11Speaker 1: me and go to the next thing. But when you're
- 30:14Speaker 1: used to one thing working and it's from God's goodness
- 30:18Speaker 1: it is, I think you do begin to rest and
- 30:19Speaker 1: the blessings and there's nothing wrong with that, but they change.
- 30:24Speaker 1: And there's one thing in life I don't like. It's
- 30:28Speaker 1: the idea that I can't predict or find the guarantees
- 30:32Speaker 1: right of what's going to happen forever in this life.
- 30:36Speaker 1: I even thought this morning not to wax eloquent, Johnny.
- 30:38Speaker 1: It's not very eloquent, but it's long. If that helps,
- 30:41Speaker 1: I thought about and that's your favorite I thought about
- 30:44Speaker 1: like when God created time. When God created time, it
- 30:48Speaker 1: put every bit of the angst possible when time is
- 30:52Speaker 1: combined with sin into our life. Because now, since God
- 30:57Speaker 1: exists outside of time and within time, but he's not
- 31:01Speaker 1: confined by it, then everything that feels like time to
- 31:06Speaker 1: us feels like nothing to him. So it doesn't matter
- 31:09Speaker 1: if it's a thousand years or ten seconds. We always
- 31:13Speaker 1: feel like we're waiting for something that he never feels
- 31:17Speaker 1: like he's waiting for because it's as if it already
- 31:19Speaker 1: happened to him. And so like that, I think it's
- 31:21Speaker 1: that it's always about the waiting and the unknown that's
- 31:25Speaker 1: the issue. But hey, if you're out there today and
- 31:27Speaker 1: you feel like your brook's ride up, it doesn't mean
- 31:30Speaker 1: God's abandoned you. It doesn't. It doesn't. It doesn't mean
- 31:33Speaker 1: that God for good. It doesn't mean he's like, oh man,
- 31:36Speaker 1: I should have that's right. I forgot to make sure
- 31:39Speaker 1: the brook didn't like it's always this like why are
- 31:42Speaker 1: you sleep at the wheel? And I quoted John Foreman
- 31:44Speaker 1: in a sermon late the other day. I don't know
- 31:47Speaker 1: if you were there for that one where he says,
- 31:54Speaker 1: where's God out in the darkness? Because the voices in
- 31:57Speaker 1: my head aren't talking honest. They say, maybe you made
- 32:00Speaker 1: his hand for Goddess, but that ain't you. That's the
- 32:03Speaker 1: bridge or the third little pre course of this song,
- 32:06Speaker 1: and that gives me lame. The voices in my head
- 32:09Speaker 1: don't talk honest, because what I'm hearing is maybe just
- 32:11Speaker 1: forgot me. Yeah you know. But hey, God will lead
- 32:14Speaker 1: us to the The blesser is still with us, regardless
- 32:16Speaker 1: of the change and the blessings of the brooks. So
- 32:18Speaker 1: there you go, John, that's good stuff.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Hey, w pink pink, all pink hands in the center.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Girls.
- 32:26Speaker 2: It's like a volleyball cheer that you guys can try it. John,
- 32:32Speaker 2: let's do my singment. Let's start with Johnny's old jokes.
- 32:34Speaker 2: We call a joke about that.
- 32:42Speaker 1: John.
- 32:43Speaker 2: My mother always said, the best way to a man's
- 32:45Speaker 2: heart is through his stomach. Lovely woman, terrible surgeon.
- 32:51Speaker 1: That's good.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Lost a lot of lost, a lot of patience like that,
- 32:55Speaker 2: John went. That reminded me of this one. When one
- 32:57Speaker 2: door closes, another one opens. Other than that, it's a
- 32:59Speaker 2: great car. That's such a great joke.
- 33:05Speaker 1: John.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Three brothers, aged ninety two, ninety four and ninety six
- 33:09Speaker 2: live in a house together. One night, the ninety six
- 33:11Speaker 2: year old draws a bath, puts his foot in, and pauses.
- 33:14Speaker 2: He yells down the stairs. Was I getting in or
- 33:16Speaker 2: out of the bath? The ninety four year old yells back,
- 33:18Speaker 2: I don't know. I'll come up and see.
- 33:19Speaker 1: He starts up the stairs and pauses, then yells, was
- 33:21Speaker 1: I going up the stairs or coming down?
- 33:24Speaker 2: The ninety two year old was sitting at the kitchen
- 33:26Speaker 2: table having coffee, listening to his brothers. He shakes his
- 33:28Speaker 2: head and says, I sheer up. I never get that. Forgiveful.
- 33:30Speaker 2: He knocks on wood for good luck. Then he yells,
- 33:33Speaker 2: I'll come up and help both of you. As soon
- 33:34Speaker 2: as I see who's at the door.
- 33:36Speaker 1: I knew that was coming. Old people, guys, the best.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Let's do this week in history, John, we call it
- 33:45Speaker 2: talk about then.
- 33:51Speaker 1: John.
- 33:52Speaker 2: This week nineteen seventy three, a car reputed to be
- 33:56Speaker 2: Adolph Hitler's car is auctioned off for one hundred.
- 33:58Speaker 1: And fifty three thousand. First of all, who's buying Hitler's car? Exactly? Who?
- 34:02Speaker 1: Hitler's car survived the bombing of Germany? This sad ground.
- 34:05Speaker 1: He had an underground parking garage roight beside the bunker.
- 34:08Speaker 2: This set the record for the highest amount ever paid
- 34:11Speaker 2: for a car at auction. I'm sure it's been broken
- 34:13Speaker 2: since then. This was seventy three. I mean, that's a
- 34:16Speaker 2: lot of money in today's money. Seventy three hundred fiftyt
- 34:18Speaker 2: that's probably close to over half million dollars. However, it
- 34:21Speaker 2: was discovered later, like you said, that this was not
- 34:23Speaker 2: Hitler's car, but belonged to Gustav Mannerheim, President of Finland
- 34:29Speaker 2: nineteen forty four to forty six. The car was a
- 34:31Speaker 2: nineteen forty Mercedes seven to seventy K two hundred and
- 34:34Speaker 2: thirty horsepower armored vehicle, which I guess was what led
- 34:38Speaker 2: the scammer to be like, this has got to be
- 34:39Speaker 2: a Hitler's car.
- 34:40Speaker 1: It's armored.
- 34:41Speaker 2: It was capable of speeds of one hundred and five
- 34:43Speaker 2: miles per hour. Wow by those standards, because it's a
- 34:46Speaker 2: nineteen forty Mercedes.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you have a lot of questions. I have
- 34:52Speaker 1: a lot of things. Yeah. First of all, the auctioneers
- 34:55Speaker 1: should be ashamed because yeah, you're not vetting the way
- 34:58Speaker 1: you should.
- 34:58Speaker 2: No, you can't just call it's interesting that it ended
- 35:00Speaker 2: up not being Hitler, but it was somebody else pretty famous.
- 35:04Speaker 1: You aren't even in the same country. Yeah, well in Austria, Finland, Finland.
- 35:09Speaker 1: I mean you're in an you've got an enemy country's
- 35:12Speaker 1: I don't know. That's like, that's really just listen, be
- 35:15Speaker 1: careful when you're at these auctions. You gotta know. And secondly,
- 35:19Speaker 1: stop shopping around for Hitler's car. You're weirdo, Like, hey,
- 35:22Speaker 1: you bring your You're not going to believe this. I
- 35:26Speaker 1: call this atrocity too, I mean stupid. Yeah, why would they?
- 35:31Speaker 1: I don't know. Why do you have an atrocity one? Yeah, anyway,
- 35:35Speaker 1: come on, it had like a tiny little grill. The
- 35:37Speaker 1: rest of it is like a tiny in the middle. Okay,
- 35:39Speaker 1: that's stupid. I'm sorry. I apologize to our dear listeners.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Can I just say this, Yes, there's one guy. I
- 35:45Speaker 1: don't mind the smirching. It's Hitler. Yeah, let's go ahead
- 35:48Speaker 1: and let's get him. What can I tell you something?
- 35:52Speaker 1: He and I don't the thing about it to follow him.
- 35:56Speaker 1: He seems to have the least amount of visual chrisma.
- 36:00Speaker 1: He's not a good looking dude, right, It's odd. It is.
- 36:02Speaker 1: It is strange to think like the presence that he
- 36:06Speaker 1: commanded being you know what he was. It was talking
- 36:09Speaker 1: articles too.
- 36:09Speaker 2: He's shouting, he's pounding tables, and you're like, man, what
- 36:12Speaker 2: was that all about?
- 36:13Speaker 1: It wasn't good with women, Like there was a whole
- 36:15Speaker 1: thing I read on that, like some of some genetic
- 36:17Speaker 1: things and other things like it's weird, dude, it's just
- 36:20Speaker 1: a yeah, he's like the guy and that they all
- 36:22Speaker 1: picked up.
- 36:22Speaker 2: He is tapped into rage, and he tapped into like disenfranchisement.
- 36:26Speaker 1: And uh, we keep trying to tap into that ourselves,
- 36:29Speaker 1: but to no avail. Yeah, to no avail. John. It's
- 36:31Speaker 1: so maybe we'll learn one of these days. John.
- 36:33Speaker 2: This week, eighteen fifteen, the Battle of New Orleans. Do
- 36:37Speaker 2: you know a lot about this when you're us history guy?
- 36:39Speaker 2: Although the Treaty of Ghent ended the War of eighteen twelve,
- 36:42Speaker 2: or ending the wars, we have been signed two weeks earlier.
- 36:45Speaker 2: News had not arrived in time to prevent this battle.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Then, won't that? I know? And you're still fight a battle.
- 36:52Speaker 1: You don't even have to come on, you just need
- 36:55Speaker 1: the news. You're rut here.
- 36:56Speaker 2: You need to read the Treaty Aghent or whatever, any
- 37:01Speaker 2: of the Gospel of John. That's our Treaty of Ghent.
- 37:05Speaker 2: In a lot of ways, this was the most lopsided
- 37:08Speaker 2: victory for the US of the war, which surprised me.
- 37:10Speaker 2: Future US President Andrew Jackson led a mish mash for
- 37:13Speaker 2: about forty five hundred soldiers, locals, and even a pirate
- 37:16Speaker 2: crew of John Lafitte against eight thousand British regulars, So
- 37:20Speaker 2: forty five hundred to eight thousand media was the most
- 37:22Speaker 2: lopsided victory for the US. The battle lasted about half hour,
- 37:25Speaker 2: with British troops losing seven hundred killed, fourteen hundred wounded,
- 37:29Speaker 2: and five hundred prisoners taken, including three generals and seven colonels.
- 37:32Speaker 2: The American troops only lost seven killed and six wounded. Yeah,
- 37:37Speaker 2: this was we doing that they weren't doing.
- 37:39Speaker 1: What's crazy is I mean the thing that battle could
- 37:42Speaker 1: have not happened if they would have had the news.
- 37:44Speaker 1: But that battle changed the whole course of American history
- 37:47Speaker 1: because this propelled Jackson into absolute.
- 37:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a pretty wild victory to have, I mean,
- 37:52Speaker 2: and it didn't need to happen by the eighteen thirties.
- 37:55Speaker 1: I mean again, this American hero is the president that
- 37:59Speaker 1: the populous president that changed the course of the age
- 38:01Speaker 1: a little bit for them. So yeah, John.
- 38:03Speaker 2: This week nineteen forty two, the first emergency use of
- 38:07Speaker 2: an airplane ejection seat by a German test pilot as
- 38:11Speaker 2: his plane was about to crash. German test pilot Helmet Shink,
- 38:14Speaker 2: which is the most German name I've ever heard, except
- 38:16Speaker 2: for Adolf Hitler. Helmet Schenk, was testing a Heinkel HG
- 38:21Speaker 2: two eighty prototype jet engine fighter. It was the first
- 38:24Speaker 2: plane outfitted with an ejection seat. The ejection seat was
- 38:27Speaker 2: powered by compressed air. While testing the plane, Shink's control
- 38:30Speaker 2: surfaces iced up and he lost control of the plane,
- 38:36Speaker 2: so he ejected, making him the first person to do
- 38:38Speaker 2: so emergent situation. Shank's ejection was successful and he survived
- 38:42Speaker 2: the incident.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Wow. I wonder what the.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Protocol is now for these ejections when they tell you
- 38:47Speaker 2: when you're training in these million, you know, billion dollar
- 38:50Speaker 2: you know planes, and they say, hey, there's an injection seat.
- 38:54Speaker 2: But but listen, if you could say that's the thing,
- 38:56Speaker 2: it's only in planes because you know, uh, you know,
- 38:58Speaker 2: if you're on a ship, you down with the ship.
- 39:00Speaker 1: That's what a captain's supposed to did have an ejection. See,
- 39:03Speaker 1: but he's just gonna pop you out further in the water.
- 39:05Speaker 1: That's true, there's really I guess you want to be
- 39:08Speaker 1: a ship captain, boyt. Can you see him flying splash?
- 39:11Speaker 1: You're like, well, that was weird, that dramatic. I mean,
- 39:14Speaker 1: at least he's further away from the carnage or whatever. Yeah,
- 39:17Speaker 1: maybe with the ship's on fire.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Yeah you need something, that's but yeah, so but the
- 39:22Speaker 2: end and planes are like no, but I wonder what
- 39:24Speaker 2: the thing is where they go. Look, this is a
- 39:26Speaker 2: lot of money for trusting you with. Don't just be
- 39:29Speaker 2: willy nilly and make sure you know where that button is.
- 39:32Speaker 2: You're not accidentally hit. I know those people have ejected.
- 39:34Speaker 2: They're like, guys, it was fine, man.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Like, yeah, it totally turns out fine. He just panicked.
- 39:39Speaker 1: You know, he's getting I'm getting some turbulence you no, no, no,
- 39:42Speaker 1: you know And then yeah, of course, now I'm sure
- 39:45Speaker 1: the plane can just fly itself home if that were
- 39:47Speaker 1: to happen.
- 39:47Speaker 2: Maybe, Yeah, that's why we need more drones. Yes, boy,
- 39:51Speaker 2: don't you think we wouldn't be pro drone here on
- 39:53Speaker 2: the show one stance we take politically.
- 39:56Speaker 1: I love a good drum. Can we not get more
- 39:58Speaker 1: of these?
- 39:59Speaker 2: Just send over manned with no accountability? Okay, John, let's
- 40:03Speaker 2: do this a couple of silly ones that are kind
- 40:05Speaker 2: of odd because we've been so serious up to now. Well,
- 40:08Speaker 2: we've talked about battles and Adolf Hitler.
- 40:11Speaker 1: John.
- 40:11Speaker 2: This week nineteen ninety two. I don't even remember this story.
- 40:13Speaker 2: We're five years apart, but I remember this story. US
- 40:17Speaker 2: President George H. W. Bush Senior vomited in the lap
- 40:21Speaker 2: of the Japanese Prime Minister and collapsed to the floor.
- 40:23Speaker 2: He had ignored a physician's warning to stay in bed.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Do you have like a.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Summit or whatever, and you do the big dinner with
- 40:28Speaker 2: the thing and it's it's very last suffrage from you,
- 40:30Speaker 2: these dinners because they're they're made for press, right. So
- 40:33Speaker 2: he's sitting next to in the shot, and he became
- 40:36Speaker 2: so nauseous that he then I mean, you know, that's
- 40:39Speaker 2: the thing, when you're that sick that you can't even
- 40:41Speaker 2: control where the vomit's going.
- 40:42Speaker 1: Right, that's sick. It's really sick because normally to be
- 40:44Speaker 1: like I need to you have a countdown in your
- 40:47Speaker 1: head going off like you got five segments and you're
- 40:49Speaker 1: gonna if you don't find a trash can eject. Yes,
- 40:53Speaker 1: but to be like that sick thing, I guess because
- 40:55Speaker 1: you talk yourself out of it. Nop gun not gun,
- 40:58Speaker 1: and you just kind of I've tried to do a bad.
- 41:00Speaker 2: But not gun that wouldn't be prudent at this junket
- 41:04Speaker 2: and then he just put into the lap.
- 41:06Speaker 1: It's amazing that I remember Living Color did a sketch
- 41:09Speaker 1: about it. Uh, that's the so like they had an
- 41:12Speaker 1: Asian cast member by then, and Jim Carrey was Bush
- 41:14Speaker 1: and he threw up in the lap and I can't
- 41:16Speaker 1: remember what the you know, I mean, it's already its
- 41:18Speaker 1: own gag, no pun intended. It is a gag. It's
- 41:21Speaker 1: it's interesting though politically, like the fallout was not huge
- 41:26Speaker 1: because it's almost you sympathize, Yeah, like he was sick,
- 41:29Speaker 1: but it is a yeah, it's true. What if it
- 41:31Speaker 1: vomited on whatever would have been in Russia right then? Yeah,
- 41:35Speaker 1: because the wall had fallen by then, it's ninety two,
- 41:38Speaker 1: that would have been. I bet Boris Yeltson your Gorbachev
- 41:41Speaker 1: was Gorbachev still in ninety two?
- 41:43Speaker 2: But Gorbachev was an ally by then.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Is still going or had it passed to Boris?
- 41:49Speaker 2: Boris Yeltsen, the most Russian name ever other than Vladimir
- 41:54Speaker 2: Putin probably blam Reputin's is a very like John the same.
- 42:00Speaker 2: This is the why did these make the list? Because
- 42:02Speaker 2: the same week ten years later, two thousand and two,
- 42:06Speaker 2: US President George Bush George w the Sun he passed
- 42:12Speaker 2: out after choking on a pretzel while watching a football game,
- 42:15Speaker 2: You're kidding. After fainting, the president tumbled to the floor
- 42:19Speaker 2: from a couch, bruising his lower lip and suffering an
- 42:21Speaker 2: abrade in the size of a half dollar on his
- 42:23Speaker 2: left cheek. And I don't know if we ever just
- 42:25Speaker 2: didn't know about it because they someone.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Come clear the obstruction and he would have died, right,
- 42:29Speaker 1: I guess.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Or maybe Barbara was there and was like sweetie, and
- 42:32Speaker 2: she horton, she got got in there. But then they
- 42:37Speaker 2: probably had a makeup guy coming because he had to
- 42:38Speaker 2: do a you know, a thing the next you know,
- 42:40Speaker 2: you got to go be around a makeup guy and
- 42:43Speaker 2: then he kind of fixed. So that's why it never
- 42:45Speaker 2: really we never really knew that it had happened. We had
- 42:48Speaker 2: a twenty four hour news cycle by then, so it
- 42:50Speaker 2: wasn't that. Yeah, but I don't remember that being a
- 42:52Speaker 2: big story of like, yeah, President Bush choking on pretzels.
- 42:55Speaker 1: You know, speaking of choking, you know, I bought one
- 42:57Speaker 1: of those things for the kitchen, kind of making fun
- 43:00Speaker 1: of me, the pretzel maker. It's like a suction thing.
- 43:02Speaker 1: If someone starts choking, you put it over their mouth
- 43:04Speaker 1: and you just pull it, really pull it right out.
- 43:07Speaker 1: There's an emergency Heimlick doesn't do the hemel like. It
- 43:11Speaker 1: just creates suction around their face and just pulls anything
- 43:13Speaker 1: out that's in there. So depending on how far down
- 43:16Speaker 1: it is in there, I wonder if you could push
- 43:18Speaker 1: down to maybe.
- 43:19Speaker 2: I wonder if that would work for like mucus if
- 43:20Speaker 2: you're like super sick but you can't quite cough the
- 43:23Speaker 2: thing up.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Terrible at coughing up. I don't have a very productive
- 43:27Speaker 1: I have tomb I was like, hey, cover your ears
- 43:29Speaker 1: because I getting ready to Yeah, it's one of those
- 43:32Speaker 1: like I need.
- 43:33Speaker 2: So they have devices now, it's like the emergency ladder.
- 43:35Speaker 2: People have those emergency ladders.
- 43:37Speaker 1: In their house.
- 43:37Speaker 2: If you have a second floor where you can just
- 43:39Speaker 2: like it, like it rolls down like Rapunzel. Yeah, this
- 43:42Speaker 2: is the emergency ladder of the cho Laura, I think
- 43:45Speaker 2: you're choking your pank.
- 43:46Speaker 1: You've got to remember you have you have it, it's
- 43:48Speaker 1: all it's not even put together, still on the back
- 43:50Speaker 1: and so like Laura's. But Laura kind of looked at
- 43:54Speaker 1: me like we'll just do the hemelg. She's a nurse,
- 43:56Speaker 1: you know. I'm like, I'm not like always my fears
- 43:58Speaker 1: have to do CPR as someone. Have I been trained? Sure?
- 44:01Speaker 1: Do I remember? No? And like so it's one of
- 44:03Speaker 1: those like in that moment, I'll be like Laura, you know,
- 44:07Speaker 1: come to the CPR because she's done CPR in a
- 44:09Speaker 1: medical environment and I'm just a lay person, you know
- 44:12Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Yeah, John or brianman I bought one
- 44:15Speaker 1: for the church too, So do you know how to
- 44:17Speaker 1: put it together? If you had too? In them? It's
- 44:19Speaker 1: like that. It's like those a ed things that are
- 44:20Speaker 1: in every church, like you got to know how to
- 44:22Speaker 1: do it. They need those. Now we have that, I'll
- 44:24Speaker 1: talk to you. Yeah, it'll tell you just it'll tell
- 44:26Speaker 1: you what to do. Put this on here here and
- 44:28Speaker 1: it'll like, okay, stand back the thing about the eighties.
- 44:30Speaker 1: You got to make sure they stay charged because they
- 44:32Speaker 1: have a battery pack. Yeah, but it's plugged up to
- 44:35Speaker 1: a charger. I think in the wall. I think we
- 44:37Speaker 1: had a wall charger. And you need to double check
- 44:39Speaker 1: your ads everybody. I mean, you know we have had
- 44:44Speaker 1: people go out in church before. Yeah, it's not great.
- 44:46Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I listen, I need I need to start
- 44:49Speaker 2: traveling a d for my shows.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Evidently, Hey, listen, I told you at the time that
- 44:53Speaker 1: my pastor's wife's dad, he was like in his eighties, Yeah,
- 44:56Speaker 1: went down and I watched my wife run up while
- 45:00Speaker 1: my pastor's wife, my boss's wife was leaned over going
- 45:04Speaker 1: dad dad, and Lara goes into e Arma. Oh, She's like, yeah,
- 45:07Speaker 1: she picked up Julie and tossed her like a sack
- 45:09Speaker 1: of dirt. Yeah, move like just I mean through her,
- 45:12Speaker 1: like over two rows of Now Julie needs medical help.
- 45:15Speaker 1: Somebody else had to tend to her. Laura claims she
- 45:17Speaker 1: does it. I was watching the whole thing. Yeah, but
- 45:20Speaker 1: you know if she ends up saving your dad's life, right,
- 45:22Speaker 1: I mean, how do you weigh this? You know? But
- 45:25Speaker 1: I was like, oh, man, you just threw my boss's wife.
- 45:27Speaker 1: You know, it's a really funny story now, and he
- 45:29Speaker 1: was fine after that. But he passed away later, but
- 45:31Speaker 1: not anywhere near that time, right, he lived much longer life.
- 45:35Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's but she was, Yeah, you're going to,
- 45:37Speaker 2: you going to It's like a thing. It's like the
- 45:39Speaker 2: thing that God that can lift the car when somebody's
- 45:41Speaker 2: pinned under it. Yeah, the adrenaline.
- 45:42Speaker 1: My fear is I would be the guy that would
- 45:44Speaker 1: fail at that. Yeah. He'd be like, Oh, I thought
- 45:46Speaker 1: you had adrenaline. No I do, but I'm super weak,
- 45:49Speaker 1: like I needed. Well, how how big is this car?
- 45:53Speaker 1: Can it be? Like? Is it a hatchback? Is it
- 45:55Speaker 1: nineteen forty Mercedes? Yeah, that's how it all comes full circle.
- 45:59Speaker 1: Thank you Johnes for that brilliant callback. Yeah, that's our show.
- 46:03Speaker 1: I guess I think we've done all that could be.
- 46:05Speaker 1: Subscribe and listen if you want to become a patron.
- 46:07Speaker 2: We love our patrons, and we I'd love to say
- 46:11Speaker 2: that we can promise you a ton of but you
- 46:13Speaker 2: get ad free content.
- 46:14Speaker 1: I like that. Johnny will still promise you, but don't listen.
- 46:17Speaker 1: This is the year that those indie promises come true, though, Well,
- 46:21Speaker 1: the one promise we need to follow through on. Yep,
- 46:24Speaker 1: it's not really a promise yet. We need to do
- 46:25Speaker 1: this zoo meet up with some of these patrinsy is
- 46:28Speaker 1: that we'll just start to spotting stuff. I'm going to
- 46:30Speaker 1: give you something for real. Oh okay, okay, there's episode
- 46:33Speaker 1: four hundred coming up. Yeah, oh right, we need to
- 46:36Speaker 1: look at the live event. Yes, and see we have
- 46:39Speaker 1: people reached out and say they would come. Uh huh,
- 46:42Speaker 1: but that's like, it's this is episode I don't know
- 46:44Speaker 1: for three eighty something, so we only fifteen or something.
- 46:48Speaker 1: So it's going to be your schedule, not mine. I
- 46:51Speaker 1: travel a lot, but not like you. So we can
- 46:55Speaker 1: do it. So when it doesn't happen, I'm saying, we'll
- 46:58Speaker 1: still be able to squarely put the blame one. That
- 47:00Speaker 1: blame shifting is very important. It's been toxic for me.
- 47:03Speaker 1: I'm so sorry, and I need boundaries.
- 47:06Speaker 2: Well, yeah, that feels that's a proper response.
- 47:12Speaker 1: I deserve this. No one can argue with therapy language.
- 47:15Speaker 1: That's what we're for therapy. By the way, we're anti therapy.
- 47:19Speaker 1: We're just anti using therapy as a just language without
- 47:22Speaker 1: the work or just the language to know who to
- 47:25Speaker 1: blame and never have to work, and maybe somebody you
- 47:27Speaker 1: need to didn't need to take responsibility.
- 47:29Speaker 2: Maybe there is somebody to blame, and maybe that person
- 47:32Speaker 2: is you.
- 47:33Speaker 1: Maybe you need to take a long look in the mirror.
- 47:35Speaker 1: You imagine Johnny was your therapist. Hey, you ever thought
- 47:38Speaker 1: about maybe the problem was you Remember that time we
- 47:40Speaker 1: were with our buddy. He was out a rough time
- 47:42Speaker 1: and he was kind of blowing up on things and
- 47:44Speaker 1: we had this like a little intervention. Yeah, and our
- 47:48Speaker 1: other buddy was with us. We were all coming in
- 47:50Speaker 1: ready to be gentle, like hey man, you know, and
- 47:52Speaker 1: we sat down and he goes, hey, you ever thought
- 47:55Speaker 1: to yourself, man, my life sucks. We were like what
- 48:01Speaker 1: He was like, no, oh man, that meeting.
- 48:03Speaker 2: That not we were hoping that would be a big
- 48:06Speaker 2: aha moment. He was like, no, I don't think that, or.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Like maybe we could have led with something a little different.
- 48:12Speaker 1: You ever just thought to yourself, man, there's your book title,
- 48:18Speaker 1: my life sucks. Yeah, that's self realization. People have to
- 48:21Speaker 1: want that kind of self. Really, you can't give self
- 48:24Speaker 1: realization or else it's not self, it's right, it's exterior revelation.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Come on, realization. We're work, work, working on well, guys,
- 48:35Speaker 1: had a lot of fun today, really did. Thanks so much.
- 48:37Speaker 1: Happy New Year to you. We'll see you next week.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Here are talking about that I thought I will built
- 49:02Speaker 1: a bed.
