- 0:03Speaker 1: She's on The Money Radio Show.
- 0:07Speaker 2: With Victoria Divine starts now, Hello and welcome to that.
- 0:11Speaker 2: She's on the Money Radio Show podcast, the podcast for
- 0:15Speaker 2: millennials who want financial You got it right. You usually
- 0:22Speaker 2: tell me it's not just for millennials or it's blah
- 0:24Speaker 2: blah blah. So what's your constructive criticism or how I
- 0:28Speaker 2: can be better?
- 0:28Speaker 3: Tip this week?
- 0:29Speaker 2: Victorian?
- 0:30Speaker 4: No, I don't have any advice for you. You are
- 0:32Speaker 4: perfect this week.
- 0:34Speaker 5: I've got advice we didn't ask actually, all right, Instead
- 0:38Speaker 5: of ordering a mcfluurry and McDonald's, which averages around four
- 0:42Speaker 5: bucks at the moment with inflation, probably five, you order
- 0:46Speaker 5: a thirty cent cone in the Sunday lid and then
- 0:49Speaker 5: they put toppings on it and it's still the same
- 0:51Speaker 5: price as a soft serve, but it's the same volume
- 0:54Speaker 5: as a mcflurry.
- 0:55Speaker 1: You're welcome.
- 0:55Speaker 4: They don't even flurry the mcflurry's anymore, Honestly.
- 0:58Speaker 1: No, they don't. They stopped flouring.
- 1:00Speaker 3: What what is flurry?
- 1:02Speaker 6: You know how mcflurry is? Right?
- 1:04Speaker 4: They used to get that spoon, the square spoon, and
- 1:07Speaker 4: they put it in a Yeah it was. And I
- 1:09Speaker 4: never understood why the spoons were like that and they
- 1:11Speaker 4: would put the spoon in with your toppings and like
- 1:13Speaker 4: flurry it around. What They don't do that anymore. They
- 1:16Speaker 4: just put some soft serve in a cup, chucks and
- 1:18Speaker 4: M and ms on the top and chuck that spoon
- 1:19Speaker 4: in there as a sick joke to let you know
- 1:22Speaker 4: that your mcflurry was never flurry.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Wow, that is actually ridiculous, like.
- 1:27Speaker 6: To be honest, and I'm sad about it.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Put some effort into a McDonald's.
- 1:32Speaker 5: I'm all for saving the turtles, but we need to
- 1:35Speaker 5: rethink the paper straw because sits in then all of
- 1:39Speaker 5: a sudden, I'm sucking on a crumpet Like it's disgusting.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Not given things like bamboo straws exist, there's those sugar
- 1:47Speaker 4: cane straws. Like, there's so many other options, yet they
- 1:50Speaker 4: chose paper as some kind of pick joke.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Okay, I'm glad, like that could have been so misconstrued
- 1:55Speaker 2: if somebody just came in late down and what.
- 1:57Speaker 3: The hell we were talking?
- 1:59Speaker 1: Relate to a No one comes away to a podcast.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Travel Sometimes I don't listen to what's actually being said.
- 2:04Speaker 2: I don't pay attention guys, all right, yes, you need
- 2:07Speaker 2: to be paying attention though, because our She's on the
- 2:09Speaker 2: Money radio show this Saturday was an absolute cracker. We
- 2:13Speaker 2: had a brand new segment because people are just going
- 2:16Speaker 2: crazy and they just need to come come ya.
- 2:20Speaker 4: I feel like this has come out of me ranting
- 2:22Speaker 4: on my Instagram stories so many times, and our producer
- 2:25Speaker 4: saw it and was like, yeah, that's good content.
- 2:26Speaker 6: Let's just chuck that on the radio me like.
- 2:28Speaker 3: The one that you did this week that caused a
- 2:30Speaker 3: little bit of a stir in the news, mate.
- 2:33Speaker 4: And I don't even mean it, like I'm just posting
- 2:35Speaker 4: my experiences and people get mad about it.
- 2:38Speaker 6: It's not my fault.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I have a listen to a not Victoria Divine, but
- 2:42Speaker 2: like Victim Divine. Sorry, you don't have to say everything
- 2:45Speaker 2: that you think though, Victoria just putting it out there.
- 2:47Speaker 6: But it's how it got me here, So maybe I do.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Speaking of how you got here and why you are
- 2:54Speaker 2: great at solving people's money dilemmas. If you're thinking about
- 2:58Speaker 2: getting pregnant, or may be you're pregnant at the moment,
- 3:01Speaker 2: we're going to.
- 3:02Speaker 4: Talk about paid parntal leave from the minimums. I feel
- 3:05Speaker 4: like it's a good topic because it's one that confuses everybody.
- 3:08Speaker 6: TLDR.
- 3:08Speaker 4: I'll check your contracts with your employer because that will
- 3:11Speaker 4: guide what is actually gonna happen for you.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Every single person's like, all babies cost me so much money,
- 3:16Speaker 2: but you're going to make them money.
- 3:17Speaker 6: They do.
- 3:18Speaker 3: And you know what.
- 3:18Speaker 4: I was talking to my girlfriend Phoebe the other day,
- 3:20Speaker 4: and Phoebe owns a company called The Memo, which is
- 3:23Speaker 4: a remember a really big baby company here in Melbourne
- 3:26Speaker 4: that is starting to take Australia by storm.
- 3:28Speaker 6: She is an absolute legend.
- 3:30Speaker 4: She owns that with her friend Kate Casey, and I'm
- 3:33Speaker 4: obsessed with them. But I'm going to do an episode
- 3:35Speaker 4: really soon on She's on the Money about how to
- 3:37Speaker 4: afford a baby and what it costs Phoebe, because Phoebe's
- 3:40Speaker 4: just had a baby, about what it cost her and
- 3:43Speaker 4: what she had to fork out and what was worth
- 3:44Speaker 4: paying for and what wasn't. And I think that'll be
- 3:46Speaker 4: a really good episode for She's on the Money because
- 3:48Speaker 4: I don't even know what a baby costs.
- 3:50Speaker 6: I just assume they're really expensive.
- 3:51Speaker 3: I thought it was like one hundred grand a year
- 3:53Speaker 3: or something.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Oh I don't even know what it is, but I
- 3:55Speaker 4: just feel like, babies are so expensive. And I say
- 3:58Speaker 4: that as the only experience I've had of purchasing baby
- 4:01Speaker 4: stuff is those expensive gifts you get when you get
- 4:03Speaker 4: baby showers.
- 4:04Speaker 2: My favorite thing is there when I said one hundred
- 4:06Speaker 2: grand a year. Our producer Richie, whose partner is about
- 4:09Speaker 2: to have a baby, he just saw that.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Hello darkness, my old friend playing as your face went wide.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Ye seriously rethink how.
- 4:18Speaker 6: Much does your baby cost you thus far?
- 4:20Speaker 5: Oh?
- 4:21Speaker 3: Probably twenty grand? Holy mold the start.
- 4:24Speaker 6: That was an expensive decision.
- 4:27Speaker 3: We could mate move on.
- 4:33Speaker 6: Sorry, Jess.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Something that's not gonna cost you anything gonna save you
- 4:37Speaker 2: a bunch of money. Actually, it's the she's on the
- 4:40Speaker 2: Muney radio show right now.
- 4:41Speaker 7: This is she's on the Money radio show.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Yeah, she's on the Money Radio show with Australia's number
- 4:47Speaker 2: one finance podcast of Victoria Vine Mitch Jury as well. Guys,
- 4:51Speaker 2: we're doing all thanks to Budget direct Winn't Have Can
- 4:54Speaker 2: Stars Insurer of the Year twenty twenty two. Budget Directs
- 4:57Speaker 2: Insurance Soul Victoria what legend.
- 5:00Speaker 4: I feel like they are good eggs doing good things.
- 5:03Speaker 4: But speaking of good eggs doing good things and the
- 5:05Speaker 4: opposite of that, News media is pretty cooked and it's
- 5:08Speaker 4: stressing everybody out with news headlines all around Australia talking
- 5:12Speaker 4: about the economy, talking about letters, talking about the cost
- 5:15Speaker 4: of fuel, and I feel like we are all getting
- 5:17Speaker 4: pretty stressy. So I've collected a few example headlines for
- 5:21Speaker 4: you guys, and you're going to tell me how much
- 5:23Speaker 4: fear they instill in you. So first one, big banks
- 5:26Speaker 4: shock prediction zero.
- 5:28Speaker 3: That could mean anything like that is so vague.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Can I just say the media give the bank so
- 5:33Speaker 1: much press? There's press releases.
- 5:36Speaker 5: I don't even know what the RBA is and anyone's
- 5:37Speaker 5: talking about I thought that was a hospital in Sydney.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Everyone's like the RBA, I have made a big decision.
- 5:42Speaker 1: What have they got new beds or something?
- 5:43Speaker 3: No, that's RPA, Mitch.
- 5:45Speaker 1: The banks are scary in my mind.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Anyway, give us another one, Victoria, what's the next one?
- 5:49Speaker 4: People are talking about crypto coming back after a massive plunge.
- 5:53Speaker 4: I just feel like it is instilling fear for no
- 5:55Speaker 4: good reason. And another thing that I got really under
- 5:59Speaker 4: my skin about eighteen months ago, which you guys probably
- 6:02Speaker 4: will remember, is when all through the media people were
- 6:05Speaker 4: talking about the soaring prices of after pay shares, and
- 6:08Speaker 4: we're not talking about after pay as a product, we're
- 6:10Speaker 4: just talking about people investing in them as a company.
- 6:13Speaker 4: And as a financial advisor, I was like, soir, what why?
- 6:16Speaker 4: Because they're not even profiting that much to justify the
- 6:19Speaker 4: share price that exists. They've never paid a dividend, which
- 6:23Speaker 4: is an amount of money that you get paid if
- 6:25Speaker 4: you're a shareholder in that company.
- 6:26Speaker 6: Where's the value here?
- 6:28Speaker 2: Like?
- 6:28Speaker 6: Why would I do this?
- 6:29Speaker 4: And then now it's completely come off and everyone's complaining
- 6:32Speaker 4: that they've lost money on those shares.
- 6:33Speaker 6: And they thought it was a good idea.
- 6:35Speaker 4: But they thought it was a good idea because they
- 6:37Speaker 4: saw it in media, not because professionals were talking about it.
- 6:40Speaker 3: It's all about the hype exactly.
- 6:42Speaker 4: And you also look at what happened pre COVID. Do
- 6:44Speaker 4: you remember pre COVID?
- 6:46Speaker 7: All?
- 6:46Speaker 6: Oh you don't, It didn't exist.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Now it's a bit of a blow to be honest,
- 6:50Speaker 1: I'm blocked it out as.
- 6:51Speaker 4: Well, But let me refresh your memory. Before COVID, all
- 6:54Speaker 4: through the newspapers, we were talking about how property was
- 6:57Speaker 4: going to plummet and people were going to get sheep
- 7:00Speaker 4: houses and cheap apartments, and it was going to be
- 7:02Speaker 4: a buyer's dream, right that happen? No, what are we
- 7:06Speaker 4: talking about now? It's not that sexy to talk about
- 7:08Speaker 4: how property didn't drop, So there's.
- 7:09Speaker 6: No articles on that.
- 7:11Speaker 4: In fact, I found an article a little while ago
- 7:13Speaker 4: in a newspaper pretty much at the very back of
- 7:16Speaker 4: it going property prices have remained stable, and I'm like, yeah,
- 7:19Speaker 4: I know it makes sense. So it's one of those
- 7:22Speaker 4: things where you're just like, the media talk about things
- 7:24Speaker 4: and instill fear in us, and I think we need
- 7:26Speaker 4: to be really careful about what we're consuming and what
- 7:29Speaker 4: we're believing and what we're not because it actually ends
- 7:31Speaker 4: up impacting our mental health and how we feel about
- 7:34Speaker 4: things and the decisions we make around money.
- 7:36Speaker 6: And that gives me the ick.
- 7:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I will just say I'll give the media one credity.
- 7:39Speaker 5: The price of lettus is ridiculous. I can barely afford
- 7:42Speaker 5: a cheeseburger, which is a travesty.
- 7:43Speaker 4: At the moment, guys, I've gone back to frozen spinach.
- 7:46Speaker 4: I will not be buying lettuce. Like, if you want
- 7:47Speaker 4: a salad at my house, not happening here, have a
- 7:49Speaker 4: frozen block of spinach because that's all.
- 7:51Speaker 5: That's why she's not doing her morning poos trap because
- 7:54Speaker 5: she's all up from the spinach spineach.
- 7:56Speaker 6: In my smoothies.
- 7:57Speaker 4: I am absolutely regular follow my Instagram stories, you know
- 8:01Speaker 4: I love a good meta musal.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Okay, come your farm, Victoria here in the mediaop.
- 8:05Speaker 2: All right, let's do this thirty and one A six five.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Give us a call right now. Have you seen a
- 8:09Speaker 2: news headline and you've just thought to.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Yourself, come come if you have thurstay one A six five.
- 8:17Speaker 2: We're going to take your calls next right here on
- 8:19Speaker 2: She's on the Money Radio show for your Saturday Morning.

- 8:25Speaker 3: Via Saturday Morning.
- 8:26Speaker 2: It's She's on the Money Radio Show with Australia's number
- 8:29Speaker 2: one finance podcast of Victoria Devine.
- 8:32Speaker 4: That's you, Oh spicy. I feel like there's nowhere to
- 8:35Speaker 4: go from there. Honestly, step for down.
- 8:38Speaker 6: Speaking of down the share market right now.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Oh, I was going to say, like Mitch Cherry, who's
- 8:42Speaker 3: on the show as well.
- 8:43Speaker 6: That was pretty I'll take that.
- 8:45Speaker 1: But I am up. I'm in such a great mood
- 8:46Speaker 1: to be here with you guys. We've got a great show.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Yeah. On Saturdays we are doing this. Come here.
- 8:53Speaker 6: News media is pretty cooked at the moment.
- 8:55Speaker 4: I feel like there are headlines coming out my ears
- 8:58Speaker 4: about how bad the economy is, how expensive lettuce is,
- 9:01Speaker 4: what the cost of oil is, what petrol looks like,
- 9:03Speaker 4: and I'm just over seeing the media overhype things to
- 9:06Speaker 4: terrify us.
- 9:07Speaker 6: So we're going to get.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Some people to call through and tell us some headlines
- 9:11Speaker 4: that they think people need to calm their farms about Victoria.
- 9:14Speaker 3: What are you doing, mate? There's no need to talk
- 9:16Speaker 3: because we got this. Come come y. That is art's glorious.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Thirty one six five is and number. Give us a
- 9:23Speaker 2: call right now, just like Tommy has done. Mate, What
- 9:26Speaker 2: do you think the media need to come?
- 9:28Speaker 3: Um ya over?
- 9:31Speaker 5: All?
- 9:31Speaker 8: Right? Well, there's this third.
- 9:33Speaker 3: He calls himself the slum dog millionaire because he's young,
- 9:37Speaker 3: like he lives in Vegas.
- 9:38Speaker 1: I made a million bucks.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Offic singing earlier this year called bloody dog coin and yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 3: West you could say it, and I'm pretty sure.
- 9:46Speaker 6: The slum doge millionaire lum dose.
- 9:51Speaker 4: I love the confidence in that though, imagine naming yourself that.
- 9:54Speaker 4: And also I don't mean to be a bit rude,
- 9:57Speaker 4: but like property prices in Melbourne have just hit in
- 9:59Speaker 4: our verage of what one point one million dollars?
- 10:02Speaker 6: Is that even that much money?
- 10:03Speaker 1: Now?
- 10:03Speaker 5: No?
- 10:03Speaker 2: No, it's like when they got million dollar listings, it's like, well,
- 10:06Speaker 2: hang on a second, that's just a regular yeah, slum
- 10:10Speaker 2: dosh millionaire.
- 10:12Speaker 4: I love it, but I also just feel like that
- 10:14Speaker 4: gives me the eg Yeah, and.
- 10:15Speaker 2: You know what media come come yam, speaking of Indy,
- 10:20Speaker 2: you think the media need to come down with property?
- 10:22Speaker 8: Oh my gosh. Yeah. I am so sick of seeing
- 10:26Speaker 8: some twenty year old being able to retire because they've
- 10:29Speaker 8: got a billion dollar property portfolio or something like that.
- 10:32Speaker 8: Those stories are everywhere time.
- 10:36Speaker 6: It's actually really easy.
- 10:37Speaker 4: All those guys did was stop eating avocados and now
- 10:40Speaker 4: they can afford property.
- 10:42Speaker 6: It's actually mat Yeah.
- 10:45Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 10:45Speaker 4: I went to a cafe the other day and I
- 10:46Speaker 4: saw in the menu that the smashed avocado was twenty
- 10:49Speaker 4: seven dollars.
- 10:50Speaker 6: What I was like, No, do we can't afford property?
- 10:53Speaker 3: Oh my god?
- 10:54Speaker 6: Yeah, not great.
- 10:54Speaker 4: But at my local supermarket, avocados money win dollar.
- 10:58Speaker 2: You know you need to do though, Victoria, buy those
- 11:00Speaker 2: dollar avocados, make your own avo smash charge twenty five No,
- 11:03Speaker 2: twenty five, undercut.
- 11:04Speaker 4: Those, undercut them, and then after I've undercut them, I
- 11:08Speaker 4: can afford a house. Is that right?
- 11:09Speaker 3: Money win that come to my house?
- 11:10Speaker 4: If Sully smaver. But I'm kind of sick of seeing
- 11:13Speaker 4: these million dollar property portfolios as well from young people,
- 11:16Speaker 4: because you also go, I know, mum and dad helped
- 11:18Speaker 4: you out there, Sirlow.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Oh, that's exactly it. Where are your parents?
- 11:21Speaker 3: Hey? On thurday one of six'.

- 11:40Speaker 7: Up get these guys something to flatten them.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Ount my favorite thing about, mediocre midle aged white men
- 11:46Speaker 4: talking about finance is they always like to throw those
- 11:49Speaker 4: terms and acronyms around make themselves seem, smarter and it's, like,
- 11:52Speaker 4: Okay Dow jones is just the average of.
- 11:55Speaker 6: What the market looks. Like it's not actually that.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Exciting is that what it?
- 11:58Speaker 8: Means?

- 14:16Speaker 4: Pay so like that's the base amount that you'll, get
- 14:19Speaker 4: which means if you work for a small business or
- 14:21Speaker 4: a company that doesn't have a different parental leave policy in,
- 14:25Speaker 4: place that'll just be the, default, Right so if you
- 14:28Speaker 4: decided to go have a, baby that's what you'll get
- 14:30Speaker 4: at minimum. Wage it won't matter what you actually earn
- 14:33Speaker 4: day to day or what's on your employment contract because
- 14:35Speaker 4: it kind of defaults back to minimum wage because you're
- 14:38Speaker 4: out of that. BUSINESS i love that it's eighteen. WEEKS
- 14:41Speaker 4: i feel like that's a really good.
- 14:42Speaker 6: Amount of time at a.
- 14:43Speaker 4: Minimum for most months it is not enough and they
- 14:45Speaker 4: want to take more, time WHICH i totally. Understand, however
- 14:49Speaker 4: there are a few options that are. Available one the
- 14:52Speaker 4: first THING i do is actually check your employment, contract
- 14:55Speaker 4: so where you, work to see what their paid parental leave.
- 14:58Speaker 4: Is i've got clients who work in government and they
- 15:00Speaker 4: actually get six months full pay or twelve months off
- 15:04Speaker 4: at half. Pay i've got clients that have epic parental
- 15:08Speaker 4: leave policies where it's actually twelve months of full pay.
- 15:11Speaker 4: Leave i've got clients who work for really big companies
- 15:15Speaker 4: as well that have come to me and they're, like
- 15:17Speaker 4: oh my, gosh Like i've got this really great, salary
- 15:19Speaker 4: really big, company and then we look at their policy
- 15:21Speaker 4: and they only have the eighteen weeks of minimum pay
- 15:24Speaker 4: because it's not something that THEIR hr department has.
- 15:27Speaker 6: Organized SO i.
- 15:28Speaker 4: Think it's a really interesting point because it's not ever
- 15:31Speaker 4: going to be, consistent and the best thing you can
- 15:33Speaker 4: do is actually go to your employment, contract have a
- 15:36Speaker 4: look at what that, says and go from, there because
- 15:39Speaker 4: as much as the minimum, exists there might be some
- 15:41Speaker 4: bonuses that are on. Top but when it comes to,
- 15:44Speaker 4: that there's also the ability to negotiate with your. Employer,
- 15:48Speaker 4: Right so if you work for a company that only
- 15:50Speaker 4: offers you the minimum of eighteen, weeks you can, go,
- 15:52Speaker 4: LOOK i really want some more. Time is there any
- 15:54Speaker 4: way that we could, go you, know part, time OR
- 15:57Speaker 4: i could work some more hours now SO i get
- 15:59Speaker 4: some time off, later or is there the ability to
- 16:02Speaker 4: double that eighteen weeks and just have it at the half,
- 16:05Speaker 4: pay or take some time without pay at. All AND
- 16:08Speaker 4: i think that there's a way to make it. Work
- 16:10Speaker 4: you just have to have open lines of communication with
- 16:12Speaker 4: your employer about what that. Means, however AS i, said
- 16:16Speaker 4: it's different for. Everybody but sneaky thing That i've been
- 16:20Speaker 4: talking about in The shees on The money community recently
- 16:23Speaker 4: is actually about. Superranuation so you don't get paid super
- 16:26Speaker 4: on that amount of, money which means for the period
- 16:28Speaker 4: of scheme that you're out of, work you're not actually
- 16:31Speaker 4: contributing to your retirement. Savings and that doesn't put women in.
- 16:34Speaker 6: The best possible.
- 16:35Speaker 4: Position so if there's any way to negotiate with your
- 16:39Speaker 4: employer for even just that to be, included future you
- 16:42Speaker 4: is going to be in.
- 16:43Speaker 6: A significantly better.
- 16:45Speaker 4: Position but there's another sneaky, tip and that's maybe have
- 16:49Speaker 4: a chat with your, partner because did you know your
- 16:50Speaker 4: partner can pay you some super to make sure you're
- 16:52Speaker 4: not behind, exactly so you. Can, yeah your partner can
- 16:56Speaker 4: actually put some cash towards your supranuation and get a
- 17:00Speaker 4: tax refund for in some. Circumstances AND i think that
- 17:03Speaker 4: that's really important to negotiate because if you're the person
- 17:06Speaker 4: that is the primary, caregiver your retirement savings shouldn't go.
- 17:10Speaker 6: Behind it's a group.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Effort we all should be on the same, page and
- 17:13Speaker 4: these are things that we need to talk about more
- 17:15Speaker 4: consistently and.
- 17:16Speaker 5: Openly, wow, well my, Kiv i'm not a financial, advisor

- 18:46Speaker 4: Right so if you aren't using a, subscription obviously the
- 18:49Speaker 4: advice there would be to cancel. It but my favorite
