- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Wow, I cannot believe this is episode 16.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: I am not gonna lie, I was damn near ready to just say fuck it.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: No episode this week.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: But I don't know, I just felt really bad because we've been on a really good streak.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Um no skips or no um yeah, no skipping any weeks basically since I started this, so that's pretty awesome.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Um I'm not gonna lie to you guys.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: I feel like complete shit.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: I am on my period.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Not on my couch this time.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: I'm at my desk.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: I'm about to open a crispy cherry olipop.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Here you go.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Here's the crisp.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Awesome.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you heard that.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: I feel like you probably did, but just opening up my Olipop.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: And I'm honestly just gonna sit here at my desk and talk to you guys about nothing related to fitness.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Not nothing related to fitness, nutrition, nothing.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: We are just gonna talk.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: And let me explain why.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: I like I said, I feel like complete ass.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: I'm on my period.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: It's day two of my period.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Day one and two are like the freaking worst days.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: I also over the past week to week and a half have just been having such bad sleep.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: I don't know why.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: I literally have been trying to have like um magnesium and like melatonin right before bed, and still nothing works.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: I don't know why.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: It's just I've been having a really, really, really hard time sleeping.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Or not sleeping, but like staying asleep.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: I've been waking up around like 3 in the morning, and then just tossing and turning until 5 a.m.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Which is usually when I wake up for work.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, it's just been annoying.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: So that same thing happened today.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Like I woke up at 3 a.m.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: I was tossing and turning until like 5 a.m.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: So I really didn't sleep much.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: I slept maybe like four hours because I fell asleep around like 10-ish.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: I think actually I don't I don't even remember at this point.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: But yeah, didn't sleep well.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: I'm on my period.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Also, this week has been pretty rough because Luna is not doing very well.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: My dog Luna, she um has stitches in her ear and she has her whole head wrapped, and it's just been a whole thing, it's just not been the best week, to be honest, and so honestly, I don't want to talk about health and fitness because I'm just not feeling it right now, and that's totally okay.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Um, I did however want to talk about something more fun, which is Halloween.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Um, if you've been following along on my stories, then you've seen that I have bugged my husband a few times to bring our Halloween decor from storage, and it's been about three weeks that he didn't do it, and this week he finally did it, so yay, we're gonna be decorating our apartment today, so I'm excited for that.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: But I just kind of wanted to talk to you guys today, I guess more about my personal life, and why Halloween has become such a beautiful and like I guess in a sense it's kind of more like a family tradition now that me and my husband have.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: We don't have kids, right?
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: But like this is definitely something that's gonna transition or like evolve with us as we have kids, which I think is gonna be super awesome once that time comes.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: Um, not right now, not ready right now, but yeah, um let's get into it, let's talk about Halloween.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: So I grew up with a mom who was very much a spooky loving mom.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: She was uh I mean, first of all, she was just awesome, but she was obsessed with Halloween.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: The only time my house ever got decorated for anything was Halloween and Christmas, and that was it.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Pretty much never decorated for any other holiday.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Halloween though, a big deal in my house.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: Every year we always had Halloween costumes, new Halloween costumes.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, I know I don't know if you could hear, but my dog Luna, the one that's injured right now, she's snoring so loud.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, why am I whispering?
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: She's snoring really loud and I'm honestly really happy because she she really needs to sleep right now, she needs to recover.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Anyways, at my house, it was a big deal.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Always had spooky decor at my house, always had a Halloween costume every year.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, sometimes there's repeats and stuff, but I always love my costume.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: And then we would always go trick-or-treating, it was just it was just fun.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: And it became my favorite holiday because my mom made such a big deal out of it, and yeah, it was just it was like a childhood, childhood thing for me.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: I'm not really sure how many of my followers know this.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: I know some of you do, but some of you might be new and you probably don't know.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Um, but my mom passed away when I was a senior in high school.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: I was about 17 years old when she passed away.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: She passed away really, really young.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: She was 39.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Like she had just turned 39.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: And then about a month and a half later, she passed away.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: Um this past week actually was um the anniversary of her death.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: So it just marked 11 years of her being gone.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: And so one of the ways that like I kind of honor her memory is by decorating each year for Halloween, right?
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Because we would do that at my house, and it's like a nice core childhood memory of mine.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: Halloween is just very special.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: Fast forward to 2021.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Um, my best friend threw a Halloween party at her house.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: On Halloween, it was basically, yeah, it was the 30th, but you know, it was a Halloween party, so we were up late.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Um and it transitioned over to Halloween, the 31st, which is awesome.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: Um, and then at that same party, me and my husband meet on Halloween.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: Crazy, right?
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: Um, we met and have been pretty much inseparable ever since.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: Um, we've been together now for it's about to be five years.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Um we got married almost two years ago.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: So after yeah, after three years of dating, he proposed to me.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: And guess when he proposes to me?
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: On Halloween.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: So Halloween is a special time in my house.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: My husband being super, super sweet and romantic, knows how much I love Halloween and also kind of you know crazy that we actually met on Halloween, but then goes as far as to also propose to me on Halloween.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: It's so funny.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: Um, which that is like a whole other story.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: Um, oh shoot, actually, this is like the perfect story to tell right now, so let's go ahead and tell it.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: So during the time that he proposed to me, I was actually working at a corporate job that was sucking the literal life out of me.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: And yeah, we'll get into that another day, but that's not the point of today's story.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: Um, I was working at a corporate job where I was going into the office three times a week and then working from home twice a week, and I think that week I had already worked twice from home, so it was kind of in a sense like required for me to go in the other days.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: There was I think there was only like one more day that I was supposed to go in, actually.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: So I think it was just one more day, but I was sick, like I was really, really sick.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: I think I I thought that I had COVID, but I actually didn't, but it felt similar to COVID, and then on top of that, I was on my period, um, so it was like double hit with like I was just falling apart.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: I was at home and I told my husband, like, I don't want to go into work today, like I think I'm just gonna stay home.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: And mind you, he also has a corporate job, so he also had kind of like a similar schedule to me where he would go in some days and he would stay home some days, and that day he was gonna stay home too.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: So I wasn't initially supposed to go in and then I decided to stay home.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: And I really didn't want to go in because I also just didn't want to see my manager.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: I had a really, really bad manager, she like sucked the life out of me.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: She honestly just sucked the joy out of any place, but anyways, um, yeah, I really didn't want to go in.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: I was sick, I was on my period, I didn't want to deal with her, so I kept telling my husband, like, I'm gonna stay home, I'm gonna stay home, I'm gonna stay home.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: But little did I know he was planning to propose to me.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: Um, so I kind of messed up his plan in a a huge way, um, because I was home.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: And I told him that I was gonna stay home, but in order for me to work from home, because I was still gonna be working, in order for me to work from home, I needed there to be Wi-Fi, right?
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: Or else how else am I gonna be working?
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Um, this man unplugs the Wi-Fi on purpose.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: I didn't know this, okay?
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: He unplugs it on purpose and tells me that the Wi-Fi isn't working to convince me to go into work.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: But I had already made up my mind that I wasn't gonna go in.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: And usually when I make up my mind, I don't really change it.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: Um when it comes to like making decisions like that.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: And so I was like, nope, I'm not gonna go in, I'm just gonna go to your mom's house instead.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: So I went to his mom's house because um I was gonna go do laundry, I was gonna go work from there, and I was gonna hang out with my sister-in-law.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: So that was the plan that I ended up making for myself.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: I went over to my mother-in-law's house, and like I did think he was acting kind of weird, but I was just like, eh, whatever, I don't really care.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: I also, because I was feeling like shit, did not do my hair, did not do my makeup, and I was in Halloween pajamas.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: This is my mother-in-law's house, so I'm very comfortable over there.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: And she loves me so much, I would no, she would never judge me for wearing pajamas to her house.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: Anyways, um, yeah.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: So this whole time I'm thinking that the Wi-Fi is down in my apartment and my husband was like working off of his hotspot, right?
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: Because he has a work phone.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: I didn't question it.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: I was just like, okay, I need to get out of here.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: So I'm over there, I'm working, doing laundry, and then when I'm done working, hanging out with my sister-in-law.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: Um, and then I call my husband and I'm like, hey, like, is the Wi-Fi working yet?
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: Like, I kind of want to come home now.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: And he's like, Yeah, it's working, and then um, yeah, I come, I start driving home.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: We only live like 15 minutes down the street from her.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: So I'm driving home.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: I come home and I'm walking in with like laundry basket with my work bag, and you know, me, myself in my PJs with my natural hair not done at all.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: If you've seen my hair, my hair is naturally like wavy.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: Think Shakira.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: That's what my natural hair is like, and then no makeup, right?
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: I opened my door to find my apartment completely flipped upside down.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: Like I don't even know where my furniture is at this point.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: That's because my whole living room was emptied out of furniture.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: There was rose petals everywhere.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: There was like cute little balloons and lights and candles and pictures of us and my dogs wearing cute little like floral necklaces.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: And my husband's all like dressed up with flowers, and um, like he's holding like a huge bouquet of like beautiful red roses, and there's a sign behind him, two signs actually.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: There's one that says, like, will you marry me?
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: And then there's another one that says um till death do us part.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: It's actually still on my living room, um, my living room wall.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: The it's a little neon sign.
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: And then when I opened the door and I saw all that, and I also saw my best friends, my two best friends and my cousin that I'm really close to.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: I was super duper surprised and I was like, Oh my gosh, is this actually happening right now?
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: And it's and it's happening with me in pajamas.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: Uh luckily I was on theme because they were Halloween pajamas.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: I was also wearing slippers, okay.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: I was wearing Snoopy Halloween slippers.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: They're cute, but I mean, of all things to be wearing.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: I was in pajamas and slippers.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: Like, come on.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: And then it was so funny because they're just telling me about the whole the whole mess that I basically threw them into because I decided that I wanted to stay home instead of go to work.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Because of course if I went into work I would have been gone all day, they would have had all the time in the world, but then instead they had to rush it because I was here 15 minutes away from my apartment, and I could have came home like at any point.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, I basically ruined it, but it made for a great story because now my husband really likes to tell that story because it's so funny.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: But yeah, um, that's my proposal story in the short version.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Um my husband likes to tell the longer, funnier version because I mean, from his point of view, it's a lot more stressful.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: From my point of view, I didn't even know it was going on, so for me it's pretty relaxed.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: Maybe I should have had him come on the podcast and tell the story.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: Maybe we'll work something out.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: But yeah, so Halloween, a big deal in my house.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: Um growing up as a kid, and then up until the point where me and my husband met and eventually got engaged.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: So now we like to spend our October or our spooky season doing a lot of little fun activities together.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: It's like it's just fun, first of all, because he knows how much I love Halloween, but it's also like a way that we get to spend little dates together, all romantic and stuff, and also experience new things together because we do go to like some Octoberfest here and there, like at least once during the year, during the like October, the you know, Octoberfest.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: So we do we do try to find like one place to go to to have like like two, three beers to try them out because obviously it is seasonal.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: My husband likes beer, he's like a beer guy, so um he likes to try new types or new uh beers that we haven't tried yet.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: I'm like whatever is about beer.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: I I do like modello, I love a modello, especially if you ever see my post and you see me with some tacos.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: There's usually a crispy modello on the side.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: But anyways, um yeah, so we'll try like the Oktoberfest beers somewhere.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: We actually just found this last year this cute little pumpkin patch that we ended up really liking because it was it was not only a pumpkin patch, but they also had like little um games and stuff and food.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: And then they had like this little Oktoberfest area, so you can like get a little get a beer like in that little area.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: It was really cool because we were able to knock out a pumpkin patch and an Oktoberfest beer in one spot.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: But yeah, that was cool.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: I really like that spot, so looking forward to going there again this year.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: So we out we always do a pumpkin patch and Oktoberfest place.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: Octoberfest did I say that right?
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: Oktoberfest spot and then we do like um we definitely go to Halloween horror nights at least once, sometimes twice with some friends, and then usually a couple Halloween parties, whoever's throwing it.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: There's usually at least like one or two that we go to.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: Um sometimes maybe one more, but that's usually it.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: We definitely go by Halloween costumes together.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Um, and then we always do like some other kind of Halloween activity.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: So last year we did like this little trail that had like light-up pumpkins.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: It's like it was really cute.
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: It was like a night event, and you just walk the trail and they have a bunch of like pumpkins carved.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: I don't think they're real, I think they're fake pumpkins, but they light up at night, and they're like very, very creative with how they um put them out, like how they carve them, how they display them and stuff.
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: So it's super cute.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: It's also a nice place to get your steps in, which of course I really love as a fitness girly.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: And then sometimes we will take some nephews trick-or-treating, like on Halloween.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: Um, or we will meet up with some friends on Halloween and grab a beer at a brewery, and that's pretty much it.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: Like, that's how we spend our October.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: We do have like a lot of things planned in October, and it's kind of just become like our little tradition as a family of two, me and my husband.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: Oh, actually, I almost forgot.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: We also decorate my car.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: We decorate my car like spooky vibes, nothing crazy because uh I've seen some Jeeps where they put like entire skeletons on their car.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: Um, we don't do crazy stuff like that, but we do decorate the Jeep.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: Maybe we'll post a reel on Instagram of it after it stops being so fucking hot here in SoCal.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: It was 104 degrees today.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: That's fucking crazy.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: I hope you enjoyed learning about our spooky activities and our spooky love story and my spooky childhood.
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, now you know why Halloween is so important for me and why I take this thing seriously.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: And yeah, I'm excited to see how our little traditions evolve over time.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: And if you made it to the end of this podcast, DM me what you're gonna be for Halloween this year because I really want to know, and I also need some ideas because I don't I don't really know what I'm gonna be this year.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: I need to start figuring that out.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: But yeah, thank you guys for listening, and I'll see you guys next week.
