- Jessica Figueroa: Hi, listeners. We're here today spending some time together on our Just For Today podcast, thinking about doing things together every single day to just live a little, pour some life into our life. So today we are going to be okay embarrassing ourselves. How many things do you hold yourself back from in life because it's embarrassing? Maybe you don't raise your hand. Maybe you don't give the answer. Maybe you don't wear the hat. I remember after my mom passed away, I've always felt like she what wore such embarrassing outfits to church. And then after she passed away at the funeral, we all wore fascinators, you know, those kind of British style hats. And at the funeral we all wore them to honor her, just cause she would have a hat or something about her outfit. And then for the couple years following her death, I continued to wear them to church on holidays and Fourth of July. And I haven't done it in a long time. But I remember the first time I did it without a good reason and just walked into church and everyone, ⁓ my gosh, I love your hat. I love your hat. I love your hat. And I was embarrassed walking in, but the embarrassing thing, it might have still been embarrassing, but it brought joy. It just shook things up a little bit. So what are we not doing because it's embarrassing to us? Where are we not going? Maybe your car feels embarrassing. So maybe you don't pull it up. Well, go somewhere nice. Throw that, pull that thing into valet. Because a not great car is a temporary situation in life. Who we are on the inside is what we're sharing with the world. So today we're gonna be okay being embarrassed. Would it embarrass you to not wear any makeup? Are you someone that never leaves the house without eyeliner on? How about today? Where have you ever tried this before? Don't wear any makeup to church. Not a single, not even under eye concealer, even if you're over 40. I challenge you one day. Because the feeling of being embarrassed. gets better when you do things that think would be so embarrassing. And while they might be, they just get a little better. Have you ever had to let a little toot slip out when you didn't mean to? Have you ever slipped and fallen in a restaurant? I did one time. I got up and it was like a wood floor and it's Florida. So there was humidity and it got slippery and I stood up from the bar stool right on my rear end. ⁓ so there's embarrassing situations we can't avoid. But there are embarrassing situations in life that we can avoid and we do avoid them. And that's not always a good thing. So today we're gonna allow ourselves to be in situations and do embarrassing things. I'm not asking you to go on some rampage of being embarrassed. I'm asking for the normal things that you would do, but that you avoid because you'd be embarrassed to do it. I'm asking you to do it anyways, because sometimes it's just getting to know ourselves. I used to say that at the pool because I live in South Florida, I love it. I am in ⁓ the, well, pretty much 11 months of the year is bathing suit season here. And the other month is simply because it's raining and that month is spread out throughout the time. But pretty much 12 months a year here, it's bathing suit season. So if I was someone that refused to take my cover up off and get in the water, I'd never get in the water. So, and now guys, I've got no lady parts on the top from the breast cancer. I've had a bilateral mastectomy. So, and my bathing suits look very The same from the front as they do from the back. But I do not allow myself to be embarrassed by that. I know there's things I could buy to put in, but I tried that one time and then they were like heavy. And the bathing suit compartments was just one big compartment across the front. So the two heavy-weighted inserts slid to the center. And then I just had like a uni boob. And that was my first experience. So I'll try again. It's it's a recent thing. But I have learned in my life to not avoid things that might embarrass me because I don't want to miss out on the good stuff. I'd love to avoid all the embarrassing moments, but you can't have one without the other. To get the good stuff out of life, you have to be willing to embarrass yourself. So just for today, we're gonna be okay feeling a little embarrassed. But don't worry, you don't have to do it tomorrow. We're just gonna do it just for today. So we'll all be out there embarrassing ourselves together because we're a community.
