- Jessica Figueroa: Hello there, listeners. Can you believe how long we've been doing this together? I always love seeing and looking back and thinking how long I've done something and knowing that change comes with time plus consistency. So if you guys have been listening, even if it's five mornings a week, not seven, that time plus the consistency will equal results. It's guaranteed. Okay, today we're going to talk about if you're teachable. So are you teachable, coachable is another word? Are you open to feedback about yourself, about your life, about your parenting, about everything? Well, here's a sign that you're not. If no one's saying hard things to you, when is the last time someone gave you some constructive criticism about an area of your life? Now, constructive criticism, I prefer you always have to think of the sender who's sending the information. Do they love me and do they have my best interests in mind? And if they love me and they have my best interest in mind, I am open to what they have to say. It doesn't mean I agree. It doesn't mean I'll apply. But if they love me and they have an active interest in what's good for me, then I am open to what they have to say. So when's the last time someone had a hard conversation with you about yourself? And if you can't remember, it's probably because you're not coachable. And people that aren't coachable or teachable, they're living this life without the benefit of all of the people around you who are trying to help. So pay attention to the red flags if you're someone that's coachable or teachable. And if you're not, then the opposite of that is you're very defensive. So if someone's like, hey, I would have liked if you've seen this, and you're like, but I would have done that, but there was traffic. Hey, you did a this. but that. but that. You always have an answer. You always have a comeback. You always have a reason why. That's called being defensive. But what happens is if you're defensive too much with feedback, people stop giving it. I know I do. I know that I'll offer feedback of something I've learned the hard way a few times. And if it's not received well, then I just stop because I'm like, okay, they're not open to it. No big deal. The only people in my life I will continue to give feedback to that aren't very teachable or coachable is my children because I feel called to help them be who God created them to be. So for them, no problem. You don't have to want to hear it. I'm going to coach you anyways. But when it comes to my friends or my coworkers or my staff. After I've offered a few coachable teaching sessions, if they're not open to it, and by open, they don't have to believe what I believe. They don't have to, you know, be like, yes, that's brilliant, but are they open to it? And if they're not, I stop giving it. Right. There's a saying in a verse in the Bible that says, Don't cast pearls upon swine. So if I've learned something the hard way and I'm trying to spare someone else and just offer them, hey, are you open to hearing about this? And if they say yes, but then they get defensive or They argue with this, then after a few times I just stop. And I don't want you guys to miss out on that. So let's be teachable, coachable. If you don't know what all that means, spend some time today looking into it, and I'll see you tomorrow.
