- 0:54SPEAKER_08: Hi.
- 0:55SPEAKER_08: What's going on?
- 0:56SPEAKER_08: Thanks, guys, for being here.
- 0:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, thanks for inviting us.
- 0:59SPEAKER_02: Usually you have to say me, but today you have to share the spotlight.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Today it's us.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: On camera, actually.
- 1:07SPEAKER_02: Amber's never on camera, so this is uh I'm always a voice.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: I'm the voice in the abyss.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: The voice of reasoning.
- 1:13SPEAKER_08: I love it.
- 1:14SPEAKER_08: I love I love that you chose today to unveil the shining face.
- 1:20SPEAKER_08: The face.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: They're like, damn, no wonder she's not on camera.
- 1:25SPEAKER_08: No, no, no, no, no.
- 1:28SPEAKER_08: So I decided to be Johnny Dubb, Captain Draxpiro.
- 1:31SPEAKER_08: We got a police officer with us.
- 1:32SPEAKER_08: What are you guys today?
- 1:34SPEAKER_08: So I'm Deb from Napoleon Dynamite.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: And I'm supposed to be Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite, but I just ended up looking like my dad today.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: Uh but this isn't your I think I think that's what he this is what he looked like.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: No, I've seen him before.
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: Oh, I was gonna say.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: That's dark.
- 1:56SPEAKER_08: Uh so this is not your first Halloween costume of the season, though, is that right?
- 2:01SPEAKER_08: Of this year?
- 2:01SPEAKER_08: No.
- 2:02SPEAKER_08: No.
- 2:02SPEAKER_08: What has been the costumes that you've done so far?
- 2:07SPEAKER_08: So last Saturday, yeah, we did uh pulp fiction.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we're I was Vince Vega and Amber was Mia Wallace.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: But I looked a little more like Lord Farqua.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: And I didn't realize till after, and I was like, Jesus.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: But you know, the intent was there.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Oh and then well, today we have this one, and then tonight we have another party that we'll be going to.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: So we have about four to five this this in the next couple.
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: Are you guys doing something different tonight?
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we're doing something different.
- 2:40SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm gonna be Elvis because I have that Elvis show it tonight.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, hell yeah.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: And then I'm just gonna put on like a 60s dress.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:49SPEAKER_08: So as a couple, do you always try to coordinate or do you ever go rogue?
- 2:54SPEAKER_08: We do.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: I think we only went rogue uh one year.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: And uh I think that was the year that I was I attempted um what's that kid's name?
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: From the like never mind.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: No, you were the comedian, the one with the pink jacket.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, that's right.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: I was Tony Clifton.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: Tony Clifton.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: So it was it's uh Andy Kaufman's Andy Kaufman's character of of uh Tony Clifton.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Okay but we've been together now for seven years, and I think every year we've dressed except for that year.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: But yeah.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 3:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was like an uncoordinated thing.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: But dressing up is not just Halloween in our house.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Um sometimes I'm like we're laying down ready for bed, and then I look over and he's like scrolling for costumes.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: And it's like February.
- 3:46SPEAKER_08: So it's like you anticipated my next question because I was gonna ask, how long do you usually spend to get you know prepared for your Halloween costumes?
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like at the be starting at the beginning of the year.
- 3:57SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say November.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we're like, yeah.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and we just like to like really have like details and just the smaller stuff that people, you know, you don't really think about and forget.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: But we I mean this uh this year we did uh that YouTube video um took you.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: We did a video understand it.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: You know, he didn't understand.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: No, so we did um we each chose six costumes.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: I saw that.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: We put them in a bucket, yeah.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: And then the last one that we pulled is what we are for like the day of.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Um but we didn't reveal it on uh the video, and people thought we were gonna reveal it, and everyone was I kept getting like a bunch of like hate uh like tanks from my family, and they were like, I just wasted seven minutes watching the video.
- 4:51SPEAKER_08: Now, aside from today, like this moment, when you do wear your costumes, do you go full method?
- 4:57SPEAKER_08: Like, do you immerse yourself into the character or are you still yourself just dressed as that person?
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: Sometimes he is.
- 5:08SPEAKER_08: I can't I can't do it.
- 5:09SPEAKER_08: So I'm gonna have a controversial take here.
- 5:11SPEAKER_08: We we may have to cut this out.
- 5:12SPEAKER_08: I don't know, but um we're leaving it.
- 5:15SPEAKER_08: So do you remember when Bruce Jenner became Caitlyn Jenner?
- 5:19SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 5:19SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 5:20SPEAKER_08: So that year was Halloween, like right when it happened, right?
- 5:24SPEAKER_08: So my husband was like, oh, we should go as Bruce and Caitlin.
- 5:28SPEAKER_08: So like, okay, great.
- 5:31unknown: Fine.
- 5:31SPEAKER_08: Like that's fine.
- 5:32SPEAKER_08: Like no brain.
- 5:33SPEAKER_08: Like no brain.
- 5:35SPEAKER_08: Easy.
- 5:36SPEAKER_08: And then he switched it where he's like, I think that like me, Jessica or JJ, should be uh uh uh Bruce, and then he should be Caitlyn.
- 5:45SPEAKER_08: I'm like, okay, like even better, I don't have to wear like the corset.
- 5:49SPEAKER_08: Wonderful.
- 5:50SPEAKER_08: Then and we were going to Tahoe to see friends of ours who live in Tahoe, and it was a big Halloween thing.
- 5:55SPEAKER_08: And so then, like, literally, I want to say Monday or Tuesday before we're about to go, because it was like that weekend.
- 6:00SPEAKER_08: He's like, Um, you're gonna hate me, but I have an idea.
- 6:03SPEAKER_08: And I'm like, okay.
- 6:04SPEAKER_08: He's like, I think I go to the party as Bruce.
- 6:07SPEAKER_08: And then during the party, I transition into Caitlin.
- 6:10SPEAKER_08: And I'm like, okay, I'm like, so what am I gonna be?
- 6:13SPEAKER_08: He's like, I don't know, like maybe you could just be like, you know, whatever.
- 6:16SPEAKER_06: And I'm like, no, like that's not like what that's not how I love that guy.
- 6:24SPEAKER_06: He's so fucking funny.
- 6:26SPEAKER_08: So I dressed up as Chris, uh-huh.
- 6:29SPEAKER_08: Okay, Kardashian.
- 6:30SPEAKER_08: And I had like the black wig, and yeah, and I did the full makeup and everything, and um, that was one of the best outfits because it was just casual, you know what I mean?
- 6:38SPEAKER_08: Basically, like a black blazer and black uh leggings, and then put that in the wig, and the makeup was crazy, you know.
- 6:44SPEAKER_08: So we were gonna go to the casinos later, but we had a house party to go to first, and so we went and he was Bruce, and then everybody's drinking and whatever, and like midway through, we go to the bathroom, and I had everything in my purse, and then he switched into Gaitelin midway through the party.
- 7:02SPEAKER_08: God, that's a and people were losing their minds because they're like, wait, what just happened?
- 7:07SPEAKER_08: And he was like, they're like, You just transitioned.
- 7:10SPEAKER_08: He's like, Oh shit, yeah.
- 7:11SPEAKER_08: So it was pretty funny.
- 7:12SPEAKER_08: That's cool.
- 7:12SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I mean, well, I don't know.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: I don't take that out enough.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: I don't know if it's like cool is like the execution and the timing and the thing gonna be behind it.
- 7:23SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it's yeah, like we were like, it's not like making fun of her.
- 7:25SPEAKER_08: Like it's like it, I mean, it was just he he did a good job too.
- 7:29SPEAKER_08: So yeah, it was actually really funny.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: Well, this year Amber had like a crazy idea for uh for a costume.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: Okay, and she wanted to be uh Sharon Tate and Charles Manson.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Oh that was one of my little like papers in the bucket, and when I pulled that thing, I was like, Are you kidding me?
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: Like this is what is this?
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: He was like, Are you serious?
- 7:54SPEAKER_08: And I'm like, Yeah, I thought it'd be funny.
- 7:56SPEAKER_08: But the good news is it would be Charles Manson pre-swastika.
- 7:59SPEAKER_08: So you would like because timing wise, right?
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Like if she's but I was like thinking, like, maybe you gotta cut this out too, but like pregnant belly, like cut, like maybe baby hanging, like that that's how far it went.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: But it's funny because no, but it's funny.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: I know, I know, but it's funny because all my other picks were like Disney picks, and then that was like the one like gruesome one I was like, throw it in there.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that would have been I told my mom and she was like, I amber.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: I'm like, oh my god, what's wrong with me?
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: Everybody's all reacting.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: That's a valid response.
- 8:31SPEAKER_08: That would be crazy.
- 8:32SPEAKER_08: Okay, never mind.
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: 100% wild.
- 8:35SPEAKER_08: I have to say, I'm not like the biggest Quentin Tarantino fan.
- 8:38SPEAKER_08: Like, I think he's uh I think he's obviously special, you know what I mean.
- 8:42SPEAKER_08: But like I'm not I'm not like sometimes I'm very confused, but I think that's the point, and I haven't seen all of his movies either.
- 8:49SPEAKER_08: But I have to say the once upon a time in Hollywood or however the title is, that is such a good movie.
- 8:56SPEAKER_08: I I thought and yeah, that how he executed it the very end.
- 9:00SPEAKER_06: Because I've only watched like half of it.
- 9:02SPEAKER_08: That's so good.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: The very end is like the complete opposite of what happens when you fell asleep watching it.
- 9:11SPEAKER_02: You fell asleep watching it the other night, yeah.
- 9:13SPEAKER_02: But I started it at like watching a Tarantino movie.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: I fucking started it at like 3:30 in the morning.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay, yeah.
- 9:20SPEAKER_08: Also, like spoiler alert, this has been like a few years, so I don't know.
- 9:25SPEAKER_08: Let me tell you how it ends.
- 9:26SPEAKER_06: Like Gone with the Wind?
- 9:27SPEAKER_06: Don't tell me how it ends.
- 9:28SPEAKER_06: I don't I don't know what happens at the end of either one of those movies.
- 9:32SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 9:33SPEAKER_08: I haven't even watched it.
- 9:34SPEAKER_08: Gone with the wind or once upon a time?
- 9:36SPEAKER_02: No, once once once upon a time.
- 9:37SPEAKER_08: Oh, you should watch it.
- 9:38SPEAKER_08: It's really good.
- 9:39SPEAKER_08: The ending is like my favorite part, yeah.
- 9:41SPEAKER_08: But that's like uh what's the one where he he he redoes like Nazi Germany?
- 9:45SPEAKER_08: Is it Inglorious Bastards?
- 9:47SPEAKER_06: Same kind of idea where it's like fucking love that movie.
- 9:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 9:50SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: Well, we went to a Halloween party last weekend where we dressed up as that, and we like put in time and we did everything.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: Details, details, and then we get to the party, and then the first thing's like, Oh, who are you guys?
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: And I was like, right?
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: So we're like okay, like so I have to explain, right?
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: And then some people were like, Oh my god, your costume's so cool, and then uh they did like a costume cut, but mind you, let me back up a little.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm like, you might have to cut this out now.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: Um, it was a the it's my brother-in-law's brother's wife, right?
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: But she's very Mexican.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: So she's like, I had never seen any of like Quentin Tarantino's movies.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: So she hadn't even seen Pulp Fiction.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: So she's the one that was like, Who are you guys?
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: And then they did um like a costume contest, and then she's like, uh, she was saying in Spanish, and she's like, Vengan.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: And then she like paused, and then she had to ask somebody, like, who are they again?
- 10:50SPEAKER_03: And I was like, girl, we just don't know who you are.
- 10:54SPEAKER_08: What I love is the bolo kind of you could transition it from Pedro to Vence Vega, yeah, yeah.
- 11:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this is the exact same one that it is for Vince Vega.
- 11:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah, we my husband and I have done the Vence Vega one too.
- 11:05SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, it's so fun.
- 11:06SPEAKER_08: Like, it's again, it's easy for us because it's just a white shirt, a little bit of blood on the face, a wig, and you know, normal pants.
- 11:14SPEAKER_08: So easy.
- 11:15SPEAKER_08: I I love an easy.
- 11:16SPEAKER_08: This is not an easy costume, and I went coffee in this, and that was awkward, but yeah.
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: You look really cool.
- 11:22SPEAKER_08: I know I like it too.
- 11:23SPEAKER_08: Thank you.
- 11:24SPEAKER_08: Thank you.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: I didn't even know your name was Jessica.
- 11:27SPEAKER_08: You might have to cut that.
- 11:28SPEAKER_08: So getting to know you.
- 11:33SPEAKER_08: So anyways, I want to know who was the original idea or thought behind Mind Buzz, your podcast.
- 11:42SPEAKER_02: Um, mine.
- 11:43SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 11:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was mine.
- 11:45SPEAKER_02: Uh I started in like 2019, 2020, basically.
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: No, it was like in the pandemic for sure.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: Uh I knew I always wanted to do something on the internet on YouTube, but I just never knew that what that was until I one day put on YouTube, found a podcast, and I was like, that looks cool.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: I want to do that.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: So ever since then I I've just been kind of chasing what you know I feel like a podcast should be.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: And then plus, uh like I did that for a year, did it online uh at the like the first year.
- 12:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the first year I I did it online just talking to people on the internet um that I thought they were cool.
- 12:35SPEAKER_02: And at some point I was like, no, I I kind of want to transition to Kaylee Jenner.
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:44SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 12:44SPEAKER_04: Sorry.
- 12:45SPEAKER_04: No, I loved it.
- 12:46SPEAKER_08: See, this is why we wanted you here.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: Transition to a a woman.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: Uh so I wanted in-person interviews or just like in-person podcasts.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: So um kind of like did all the technical stuff trying to figure it out, and it was like completely impossible without like a producer.
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: And that's when I dug real deep and uh put my relationship on the line and asked Amber to see if she would want to help me.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: He's like, you just have to push two buttons.
- 13:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I will do the rest.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: I was all annoyed, and then I was like, okay, but I'm not gonna talk.
- 13:31SPEAKER_02: I was like, all right.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: And he's like, All right, but I'm gonna put a mic just in case I have to ask you something.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: And I was like, okay.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: And then like two minutes into the guest, I like talked and then he looked at me.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: And then after he's like, I thought you were gonna talk.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: I was like, I'm sorry.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: Well, the the first guest that we had that was like that that setup that we have now, um, he was a very like, I don't know, what would you say, like very right wing conspiracy like conspiracy and it's plus it's like right after the pandemic, so like a lot of stuff was happening.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and we were kind of like discussing that, and that's why I was like, So I wasn't gonna talk.
- 14:13SPEAKER_06: That was the plan all along.
- 14:14SPEAKER_06: That's why he gave you the mic.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: He was gonna rage bait you in his and then after the guy left and I was all angry, yeah.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: He recorded it and put it on YouTube later.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: But my my condition was like, I'll I'll help you and I'll chime in, but I don't want to be on camera.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: And he's like, Why?
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: Come on, and I'm like, no, and we've gotten messages like all the time on our like our YouTube or even just like DMs.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: TikTok.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they'll be like, Who's talking?
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Why isn't she on camera?
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: Or put her on camera, and I'm like, or if there's like a clip and she's talking and it's like panning from a guest to be a guest to me.
- 14:53SPEAKER_08: No, I've noticed that before, and I it's the same, it's kind of the same thing, and I just assumed you just didn't want to be on camera.
- 14:58SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 14:58SPEAKER_08: Because I was like, I'm always waiting to see you, and then I don't, and then I'm like, I'm the total opposite from him.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: Um so I am like, I don't want to be on camera.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: I don't like my passion is not to do any of I'm not any of the I'm just kidding.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: I don't even want to be here.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: No, I'm just kidding.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: I do.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: But you know what I mean?
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: Like it was never um anything that I wanted to do.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: And then when I got with him and he was like, Oh, I want to do this, I want to do that, and I was like, anxiety, like, you know, so I I enjoy um supporting him and being there.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: Cause I go to, I mean, we're always together and kind of he always, you know, brings me along.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: But I'm just kind of sitting on the side and he'll be like, you know, and I'm like, no, I'm okay, like, I'm good.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: So I I enjoy it.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: I enjoy seeing him, you know, do his thing.
- 15:47SPEAKER_06: And I kind of feel like it's your trademark now, like not being on camera.
- 15:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it kind of is.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's what I told him.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: I was like, what if I go on camera and people are gonna be like, oh, lame, you know?
- 15:59SPEAKER_08: But what if you guys got like a um like a theater gig, you know what I mean?
- 16:05SPEAKER_08: Like a live podcast, what would you do?
- 16:08SPEAKER_08: I don't think I'd do it.
- 16:10SPEAKER_08: You just behind a curtain.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: I think so.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: Maybe if if if we were to do that, because I did think about something like that, it'd probably be be that like have her in like the back or something with headphones.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: Because I'm not shy per se.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: Oh no, I know.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: I I can go up to people and I like to, I just I don't know.
- 16:29SPEAKER_05: You get you like a wizard of oz type situation going on.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: Or like um, what was the one from Power Rangers?
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: Gor Gordon?
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: Zordon.
- 16:39SPEAKER_06: That would be even fucking sweeter.
- 16:40SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 16:42SPEAKER_08: Power Rangers was like, I was like, I just aged out before like Power Rangers came in.
- 16:47SPEAKER_08: Sorry.
- 16:47SPEAKER_08: I know what it is, but I don't know.
- 16:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I aged out of college.
- 16:50SPEAKER_05: What the fuck?
- 16:51SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 16:54SPEAKER_08: All right.
- 16:55SPEAKER_08: So I want to talk about something else exciting.
- 16:58SPEAKER_08: You are gonna be performing with a Bray at improv.
- 17:00SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's pretty major.
- 17:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's major.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's it's it's it's pretty cool.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: I'm excited about it.
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: Tell us about it.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: Like my set or yeah, do it right.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: No, no, okay.
- 17:13SPEAKER_08: Like uh, okay, so you you're featuring, I'm assuming.
- 17:16SPEAKER_08: Yeah, okay.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: No, I'm I'm opening up for for George Press.
- 17:20SPEAKER_08: Oh, so you're opening that Mikey's featuring or no Mikey's hosting.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: I don't Mikey's hosting.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: I guess yeah, I'm featuring.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you're featuring.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:27SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's freaking rap.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: That's badass, dude.
- 17:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:30SPEAKER_08: That's so cool.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I'm pretty extended.
- 17:33SPEAKER_02: I've I've done the the Bray improv before.
- 17:36SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: Um, but that was kind of like an unexpected, hey dude, do you wanna do you wanna do a set?
- 17:42SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, all right, cool.
- 17:43SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 17:43SPEAKER_08: I saw that you did the uh belly room, right?
- 17:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:47SPEAKER_08: So that's pretty funny.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: Uh funny, funny funkin' Fridays.
- 17:50SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: In the belly room uh a couple weeks ago.
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: And yeah, that was fuck yeah.
- 17:56SPEAKER_02: That was crazy.
- 17:56SPEAKER_02: You deserve it, bro.
- 17:57SPEAKER_02: You're fucking hilarious.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: You really appreciate it.
- 17:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, thanks, dude.
- 18:01SPEAKER_08: Super, super when I saw that, I was like, whoa, this is like it's happening.
- 18:08SPEAKER_08: No, that's really cool.
- 18:09SPEAKER_08: So it's on my birthday.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: Oh, uh November 6th, yeah.
- 18:14SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, I was gonna bring that up, but oh, I thought it was November 4th.
- 18:18SPEAKER_08: It's is it November 6th?
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, November 6th, yeah.
- 18:21SPEAKER_02: What did I say?
- 18:22SPEAKER_08: Oh, no, no, I thought the the flyer said November 4th.
- 18:25SPEAKER_08: Friday, November 6th.
- 18:26SPEAKER_08: Okay, okay, good.
- 18:26SPEAKER_08: I'm glad you yeah, good, good, good.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: I'm glad I know your birthday.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know.
- 18:31SPEAKER_08: So let me like, do you have like an outfit idea that you have like envisioned what you're gonna wear or for Breya?
- 18:38SPEAKER_02: For Brea?
- 18:39SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 18:39SPEAKER_02: I haven't really thought about it.
- 18:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I usually work, bro.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: I usually, yeah.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: His crowd will really love me.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: No, I th uh I usually like do like a week out outfit, but day of I'm just like come like changing like flannel.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: I go from flannel to jacket to windbreaker to shoes to Amber, Amber knows the gist.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I do.
- 19:06SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, all right, and then I I take out two outfits.
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: All right, which one, which one?
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: And I already know what he's gonna pick.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: Because I could probably right now tell you what he's gonna wear.
- 19:19SPEAKER_06: I just throw on whatever I can find.
- 19:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 19:22SPEAKER_04: Whatever's clean.
- 19:23SPEAKER_06: Whatever's clean.
- 19:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, you just get it.
- 19:25SPEAKER_04: Give me the old sniff test.
- 19:27SPEAKER_04: This will do.
- 19:29SPEAKER_08: So helping picking out the outfit, that's that's critical.
- 19:33SPEAKER_08: But then do you ever run jokes?
- 19:35SPEAKER_08: Do you like work together on writing jokes together, or do you run jokes by because I know for me, I run jokes by my husband.
- 19:42SPEAKER_08: And usually it's a no or it's uh try it.
- 19:46SPEAKER_08: And try it means like like it's not terrible, but like it's not there.
- 19:51SPEAKER_08: I've only gotten him to say it's a complete joke, I think, twice.
- 19:54SPEAKER_08: Meaning like, not that it's done, but meaning like it it is a full body.
- 19:59SPEAKER_08: Right, right, right.
- 20:00SPEAKER_08: So um, do you have like a like a do you have like a translation for like what you think of jokes?
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think we do.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, he carries around a notebook, he always has a notebook, so I know it's full of things, but once he's kind of um like I guess ready to kind of like.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: I usually sit, I usually sit on an idea for like weeks.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: Until like I go back and I'm like, okay, this is can be something.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: And then I kind of like move it around.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: And then he'll perform it for me, like in our living room.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: And then um, yeah, I mean, I don't tell him like it's shit, or no, you know, or or completely change it because I don't think it ever is.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: Um, the only thing that I do, like, I guess my contribution to him is kind of like, did I understand it right away?
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: Because I try to see in the point of view of like an audience member.
- 20:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: Um, are they gonna understand it quickly?
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: Is it gonna be one of those where I have to think?
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: Is it like so?
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: I kind of always tell him, like, oh, I go, I think, you know, it's a little like a little difficult to understand right away, or I don't know if like, you know, this crowd is gonna, you know, kind of take to it and it's just sucks.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: Or maybe yeah, or maybe you could get to it quicker.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so things like that.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: So it's just those things that I kind of tell him, or maybe like here and there I'll say, like, oh, what if you say it, or what if you say this, and it's like one more things like that.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: And he's like, I'm good.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: No, uh that I mean that too, and then also um uh there's even stuff where I don't tell her, and I just kind of if she's gonna be at the show, like I'll I'll throw in like a surprise thing that that she's never heard.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: And I if if if she's laughing, then I'm like, okay, it I can I can take this out.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: I mean, not take it out, but I can take it out somewhere else.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah and try it.
- 21:49SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 21:50SPEAKER_08: No, that's I I feel about 'cause then when uh sometimes like the people with Tony O brings, I I feel like when they see me like doing my set, they've heard my joke like seven times and I'm like, sorry.
- 22:03SPEAKER_08: And that's also my husband.
- 22:04SPEAKER_08: I'm like, sorry.
- 22:05SPEAKER_08: Like, you've heard it so many times.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: But I've heard jokes like like even his jokes still make me laugh.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: I think if they're funny, they're funny.
- 22:13SPEAKER_08: Like I think you're also, I don't know about you, I don't know about you, but for me, like, I feel like I'm always like trying to tinker with different jokes.
- 22:20SPEAKER_08: Like certain certain things, like I I do have a joke about how I feel like, or someone told me I look like Johnny Depp.
- 22:26SPEAKER_08: And that's got a good like punch to it.
- 22:28SPEAKER_08: But then when I try to like tag it at the end, it never seems to go.
- 22:33SPEAKER_08: And so I've been tinkering, tinkering, tinkering.
- 22:35SPEAKER_08: And then the other day I just thought of something like random, and I'm like, can't wait to try it, you know.
- 22:41SPEAKER_08: So oh, that's the best.
- 22:43SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: That's the best feeling when when you've just like written something, right?
- 22:47SPEAKER_02: And you're like, oh, I just need to try this.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: I need to try this.
- 22:51SPEAKER_08: It's it's well, I'm like, I feel like this might be finally what this needed.
- 22:55SPEAKER_08: We'll see.
- 22:55SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 22:56SPEAKER_08: But yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:57SPEAKER_08: Like adding to like just adding to instead of just having the it like he told me I look like Johnny Depp, done, move on.
- 23:04SPEAKER_08: Like I want it, I wanted a tag to the end, you know?
- 23:06SPEAKER_08: And like every time I keep trying different things, it doesn't really.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: I think as a stand-up, you're always looking for tags on because I I mean at least to me, this is how I see it.
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: It's like whatever you're writing is like you're writing for yourself.
- 23:22SPEAKER_02: So you're you're you're constantly trying to find your persona in your writing.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: So I think like looking at your writing through your like persona or who you think maybe you don't know what your persona is, because I I I don't.
- 23:37SPEAKER_02: I just write, you know, how I feel and whatever, whatever happens to me.
- 23:43SPEAKER_08: I don't have a point, but I think well, to your point, what I've actually recently done, and I'm not again, I'm so new at this, who knows?
- 23:53SPEAKER_08: But I actually started putting down like adjectives to describe what I think my point of view is.
- 23:57SPEAKER_08: Like I know it sounds like moronic, but like honestly, because I feel like sometimes I can get distracted and think like, oh, I want to do this or I want to do this, but like I know when I when someone describes me a something, I like maybe take it and put it down.
- 24:11SPEAKER_08: So I have at the top of my note page, like to try to remember, like to keep it kind of in that same genre, if that makes sense.
- 24:18SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 24:21SPEAKER_08: Okay, well I have to remind myself who I am.
- 24:28SPEAKER_08: So anyway, all right.
- 24:33SPEAKER_08: Anyways, um, speaking of Johnny Dubb, so that's how I picked this costume because I was gonna do something else, and I thought it would have been too basic, it would have been too easy.
- 24:42SPEAKER_08: It was just an just another white girl, and that's what I am every day of the week.
- 24:47SPEAKER_08: You know what I mean?
- 24:48SPEAKER_08: Every day of the year, I'm just a white girl.
- 24:50SPEAKER_08: So uh I was gonna be Elizabeth Holmes from Theranos.
- 24:53SPEAKER_08: Oh, okay.
- 24:54SPEAKER_08: Do you know who that is?
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: No.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: Who is that?
- 24:56SPEAKER_08: Oh, you don't know who that is?
- 24:57SPEAKER_08: Oh, she is the chick that uh created Theranos, which is a hot topic right now, and it's a documentary called You Can See Everything.
- 25:07SPEAKER_02: Isn't Theranos from the Marvel movie?
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: Not aware of that now.
- 25:12SPEAKER_02: Uh-oh.
- 25:14SPEAKER_08: Uh yeah, there's an actual documentary out right now, and it's uh about this woman named Elizabeth Holmes.
- 25:20SPEAKER_08: We're gonna get into her.
- 25:22SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 25:22SPEAKER_08: Um, and she it's right before she's going to go to prison.
- 25:26SPEAKER_08: And so uh I think his name is Nathan Fisher, I think is his name.
- 25:30SPEAKER_08: He's a documentarian.
- 25:32SPEAKER_08: Um, and he and he also is like kind of funny, but he so he did the like the he lit moved in with them a month before she went to prison and he recorded everything.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: So she's going to prison.
- 25:44SPEAKER_08: She's already in prison.
- 25:45SPEAKER_08: Oh, she's in the yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:47SPEAKER_08: So we're gonna talk about her.
- 25:49SPEAKER_08: But yeah, so the documentary's out right now in theaters.
- 25:52SPEAKER_08: I haven't seen it yet because I heard it's really long, it's like over three hours.
- 25:55SPEAKER_08: So yeah, yeah.
- 25:57SPEAKER_08: And she's white, she's white chick, yeah.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: Dang, I know prison.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: Elizabeth Holmes?
- 26:01SPEAKER_02: Elizabeth Holmes.
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: No, she's Elizabeth Holmes.
- 26:11SPEAKER_08: All right, so and you guys never heard of her?
- 26:14SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 26:14SPEAKER_08: Okay, okay.
- 26:15SPEAKER_08: So basically, Elizabeth Holmes is this girl that goes to Stanford, and when she's 19 years old, she decides that she has this idea for a patch that's gonna go on your arm and it's gonna uh be like a diagnosis and also therapy.
- 26:30SPEAKER_08: So you could put your patch on, it's gonna make the diagnosis of like, let's say, diabetes, like what your diabetes is doing that day, and then also it'd be the like metformin that's gonna be administered all day through the city.
- 26:41SPEAKER_05: Why would we have to use diabetes?
- 26:43SPEAKER_05: As you pointed at him because Gil has Gil has diabetes jokes.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: She's like, Gil looks like he has diabetes.
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: No, no.
- 26:59SPEAKER_08: Because he has a diabetes stroke.
- 27:05SPEAKER_08: Dang, roasted.
- 27:07SPEAKER_08: I'm sorry.
- 27:08SPEAKER_08: No, it's okay.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: That was good.
- 27:10SPEAKER_08: That was good.
- 27:14SPEAKER_08: So uh so basically she has this idea, she's in advanced molecular science classes, and the professor's like, oh, you should go talk to this lady professor, and she's a doctor, and see what she has to say.
- 27:25SPEAKER_08: And the the lady was like, No, because you can't, you cannot, first of all, like like let's take diagnosis out of it.
- 27:32SPEAKER_08: She's like, the patch for medication, she's like, most medications have to be stored at a proper temperature.
- 27:38SPEAKER_08: Like, how how are you gonna manage how much that it's dispensing?
- 27:42SPEAKER_08: And not every medication can be um transmitted through the skin.
- 27:46SPEAKER_08: So there's all these different things that she's like, no, you're just not ready.
- 27:49SPEAKER_08: You're only 19, like keep keep going to class and like figure out what's going on.
- 27:53SPEAKER_08: And then I guess after her like sophomore year, she decides instead of continuing on at Stanford to take her tuition money and to invest it in this company.
- 28:03SPEAKER_08: And Theranos is therapy and diagnosis combined to Theranos.
- 28:08SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 28:09SPEAKER_08: Um and she ends up convincing extremely wealthy people to invest in this uh business idea.
- 28:18SPEAKER_08: So somehow, because I think of her connections at Stanford, she starts to get introduced to different people.
- 28:23SPEAKER_08: And one of the people she gets introduced to is Larry Ellison, who is the uh CEO of Oracle billionaire.
- 28:31SPEAKER_08: And she talks to him and he expresses to her, like, you need to convince other people to invest in this business and you're gonna make it happen.
- 28:40SPEAKER_08: But she changes the uh widget, if you will, instead of like the patch, it's one drop.
- 28:47SPEAKER_08: One drop of blood will diagnose your diag your uh disease or your virus.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: She doesn't want to use diabetes anymore.
- 28:59SPEAKER_08: Uh no, they are diagnosing things like uh syphilis and uh you know the sexy things.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: Hot stuff.
- 29:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, hot stuff, exactly.
- 29:10SPEAKER_08: Uh along with other things.
- 29:12SPEAKER_08: I mean, I don't remember all the different things, but like, you know, uh I don't think diabetes is on the list.
- 29:17SPEAKER_08: I don't remember that, but just like sorry, go yeah.
- 29:23SPEAKER_08: Her pitch was basically like you don't, you know, like if you do get your blood drawn to get diagnosed with things, you have to take vials of blood, and it's a very complicated time, it's a you know process, and so her idea was just one to two drops from your fingertip, and it'll be super easy.
- 29:43SPEAKER_08: And we'll run it through this machine, and it in the future everyone's gonna have this machine at their house.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: So she's building this thing.
- 29:50SPEAKER_08: That's what she's trying to do.
- 29:51SPEAKER_08: Yeah, so she assembles uh chemical engineers, uh, electrical engineers.
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: So she's like the mastermind between like everything, right?
- 30:01SPEAKER_02: Getting everybody to together to okay.
- 30:04SPEAKER_08: Yeah, so she's mechanical engineers, all these different people together, so they can build this little box that's going to, you're gonna put a cartridge in with these drops of blood, and it's gonna run it, and then it's gonna tell you you have syphilis or not, or what your potassium or what your potassium is, or you know, what your if you have hypertension or something, you know.
- 30:24SPEAKER_08: I'm I'm just using these as examples, these are not exactly 100%, but um, that was her concept, and she's getting people at first different VCs um are just saying no, we're not interested, you're not there yet.
- 30:37SPEAKER_08: Uh venture capitalists, okay.
- 30:39SPEAKER_08: People with a lot of money, like banks, basically.
- 30:42SPEAKER_08: VC.
- 30:43SPEAKER_08: VCs?
- 30:44SPEAKER_08: You thought that was poop?
- 30:46SPEAKER_02: Never mind, feces.
- 30:47SPEAKER_06: Go ahead.
- 30:48SPEAKER_06: Sorry.
- 30:48SPEAKER_06: Have you been up since 4 a.m.
- 30:50SPEAKER_06: smoking?
- 30:51SPEAKER_06: No.
- 30:52SPEAKER_06: I'm very hung over, sir.
- 30:58SPEAKER_08: We're gonna actually take a couple drops of blood and see if we have uh syphilis liver cirrhosis.
- 31:06SPEAKER_06: So uh let me get this straight.
- 31:09SPEAKER_08: Yeah, of course.
- 31:10SPEAKER_06: All right, so it's it's like a patch, right?
- 31:13SPEAKER_08: Originally, her first idea was the patch, and then the doctor that she talked to at Stanford, the the I hate to say the female doctor.
- 31:20SPEAKER_08: I don't like saying female doctor, but I love that it's the female doctor because she convinces all these males, the all these men to invest.
- 31:27SPEAKER_08: And then it's the one woman that's like, no, I don't think you're right.
- 31:30SPEAKER_08: I don't think this is right.
- 31:31SPEAKER_08: She's not an investor, so she doesn't have she is just like one of the initial people that Elizabeth talks to.
- 31:38SPEAKER_08: And Elizabeth was turned, like the lady goes, You're not ready.
- 31:41SPEAKER_08: Like, you need to continue to figure out what you're doing, just in figure out Stanford and then move on from there.
- 31:48SPEAKER_08: So that doctor had told her the patch isn't gonna work.
- 31:51SPEAKER_08: So then Elizabeth goes back to the drawing board, so to say, and she figures out, oh, what if I just pinprick and get like a couple drops of blood?
- 32:00SPEAKER_06: Like a diabetes kit type shit.
- 32:02SPEAKER_08: Kind of, yes.
- 32:03SPEAKER_08: And then it goes onto a cartridge.
- 32:05SPEAKER_08: Then you put the cartridge in like basically like an easy bake oven.
- 32:10SPEAKER_08: And then and then it goes click, and then oh, you have whatever you have, or you don't have whatever you have.
- 32:16SPEAKER_06: Fucking easy diagnosis of easy.
- 32:20SPEAKER_08: And that's her concept because she's she's saying, like, it's so hard for people to get diagnosis, and you know, I want to make it as easy as possible.
- 32:27SPEAKER_08: One of the things she kept saying though is like we can have one of these on the battlefield.
- 32:30SPEAKER_08: And I thought that's so weird.
- 32:31SPEAKER_08: Like, why do you need any kind of diagnosis on the battlefield?
- 32:34SPEAKER_08: Like, you're either you're shot or you're not.
- 32:36SPEAKER_08: Like, I don't know what you're talking about.
- 32:38SPEAKER_05: The diagnosis big ass hole in your life.
- 32:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I always thought that I'll click my finger and put it in the cartoon.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: Kind of like half blown away, and she's like, let me see how you're doing.
- 32:48SPEAKER_04: You hate to break it to you, soldier, but you got diabetes.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: He's all bleeding out.
- 32:56SPEAKER_00: Diabetes.
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: You're not gonna make it through the night unless you have diabetes.
- 32:59SPEAKER_06: Sorry.
- 33:00SPEAKER_06: You don't have a pancreas anymore.
- 33:02unknown: Yeah.
- 33:03SPEAKER_08: So she also had so okay, so backing up, right before I think she goes to Stanford, she goes to China to do like an immersion program so she can speak Mandarin fluently.
- 33:14SPEAKER_08: She's an overachiever, she's a super overachiever.
- 33:16SPEAKER_08: And she meets this guy named Sonny Balwani, and he's at least 15 years, if not more.
- 33:23SPEAKER_08: I don't know exactly, but he's a lot older than her, and he's there.
- 33:27SPEAKER_08: And he actually had a software company that he sold for millions of dollars, and he is there to learn Chinese as well.
- 33:32SPEAKER_08: So they're both in this immersion program.
- 33:34SPEAKER_08: So she now has this guy as like a point of contact that you know is helping her in Wait, what's it an immersion program?
- 33:40SPEAKER_08: Like where you would go to like like let's say I want to learn Spanish, I would move to Mexico City and I would say.
- 33:46SPEAKER_02: So she did that, but with China.
- 33:48SPEAKER_02: In China.
- 33:48SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 33:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:49SPEAKER_08: And so she meets Sunny and then they're friends, and he's kind of helping her, I think, in the background, like, you know, expressing to her like these are the people you need to talk to and convince, whatever.
- 34:00SPEAKER_08: So they're working together.
- 34:02SPEAKER_08: She quits Stanford, she's got all this money, she's getting all these different people to invest.
- 34:06SPEAKER_08: She gets people like different generals from like the army and to be on her board to give her credibility.
- 34:14SPEAKER_08: Um, and she's she's doing it.
- 34:17SPEAKER_08: And then all of a sudden, what you have a question?
- 34:19SPEAKER_06: No, I was just gonna say fucking shout out to her, dude, for fucking convincing all these people of this bullshit.
- 34:26SPEAKER_06: Like, yeah, she must have been like extremely fucking convincing.
- 34:31SPEAKER_08: She's so she's very intense, and that's like a lot of why people are like, You probably after today, you'll see on Instagram people making fun of her because she she talks like this, and she's very much like my name, my name is Elizabeth Holmes.
- 34:45SPEAKER_07: She has a very deep voice.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: So I basically told her yes, so she can get out of their face.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: They were scared, and they're like, Yeah, sure.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: Well, I think whatever you want.
- 34:55SPEAKER_08: I think part of it though is because she's so convincing and she turns a couple of people into investors.
- 35:01SPEAKER_08: I wonder if she doesn't get those initial investors if she is able to advance on.
- 35:07SPEAKER_08: But I think part of it is she's so smart, she's such an overachiever, and then she is so convincing of that this is going to happen.
- 35:17SPEAKER_08: I don't know if she like uh knowingly went into it to try to defraud people or if she really believed that this was gonna happen.
- 35:25SPEAKER_02: That's a good thing.
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: And she just couldn't deliver right.
- 35:28SPEAKER_08: So it was many years, and they're putting all this money into the company, and uh they're just they're just not they're not uh making the diagnosis proper.
- 35:39SPEAKER_08: So I think at one point the uh Wait, where do all the money go to?
- 35:44SPEAKER_08: So they they have a facility in s in Silicon Valley, they build a like a laboratory, right?
- 35:50SPEAKER_06: And so they were doing legit research.
- 35:52SPEAKER_06: Oh, okay.
- 35:53SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 35:53SPEAKER_08: They they had they were building the machine partially.
- 35:56SPEAKER_08: They were trying to build the type so they're building the machine to actually like work, right?
- 36:00SPEAKER_08: So mechanical engineering, electrical engineering so that the arms move, dropping the samples into the right, you know, droplet area, whatever.
- 36:08SPEAKER_08: And then they're also trying to do the science background of it to make the chemical engineering aspect of it to try to figure out like if it can actually read your blood by one drop.
- 36:18SPEAKER_08: Because most blood tests require a lot of blood, not just one drop of blood.
- 36:22SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 36:23SPEAKER_08: When you go and you do the whole vial.
- 36:24SPEAKER_02: I've never got one.
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we could tell.
- 36:29SPEAKER_08: You've never had your blender on?
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: I don't think so.
- 36:31SPEAKER_08: I'm sure he has, he just doesn't remember.
- 36:34SPEAKER_08: I have, I pass out, it sucks.
- 36:36SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 36:37SPEAKER_02: I've gotten like platelets or what are those things?
- 36:40SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 36:43SPEAKER_08: You don't have to diagnose your your or you don't have to disclose your health diagnosis here if you don't want to.
- 36:48SPEAKER_08: I mean, if you want to.
- 36:49SPEAKER_01: I I don't I don't even know.
- 36:51SPEAKER_01: He doesn't even know if he wants Elizabeth Holmes.
- 36:55SPEAKER_08: If you want to diagnose my she's in prison though, right now.
- 36:59SPEAKER_08: So yeah.
- 37:01SPEAKER_08: Um, yeah, so she so she gets all this money, and then all of a sudden, oh, one of the people that she had uh invest is I think his name is George George Schultz, and he is the former U.S.
- 37:13SPEAKER_08: Secretary of State and an influential board member.
- 37:16SPEAKER_08: So he was, I believe, the Secretary of State.
- 37:18SPEAKER_08: I want to say under Reagan.
- 37:21SPEAKER_08: I want to say, don't hold me to it, but I believe that's who he was under.
- 37:25SPEAKER_08: So he and he is a power broker.
- 37:28SPEAKER_08: He, you know, he's definitely you're he's on your board.
- 37:31SPEAKER_08: People like, okay, George knows what's up.
- 37:33SPEAKER_08: We're gonna, we're gonna follow what George has to say.
- 37:36SPEAKER_08: Interestingly, George has a grandson who is, I believe, a chemical engineer major at Stanford, and was like, hey Elizabeth, you should hire my grandson to be in your laboratory.
- 37:49SPEAKER_08: So that kid is in the laboratory.
- 37:52SPEAKER_08: His name is Tyler, and Tyler starts realizing something isn't adding up here.
- 37:57SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 37:58SPEAKER_08: This is not these machines that are labeled.
- 38:02SPEAKER_08: Oh, the machine she that she created, the easy bake, she's calling it the Edison.
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 38:09SPEAKER_08: So they're like, the Edison is actually a Siemens machine.
- 38:14SPEAKER_08: That's another brand that runs.
- 38:15SPEAKER_08: I knew you were gonna laugh at that.
- 38:20SPEAKER_08: That runs blood.
- 38:22SPEAKER_08: This isn't blood, this is semen.
- 38:25SPEAKER_08: Different kind of sample.
- 38:28SPEAKER_08: Um, but they're they're not properly disclosing what they're doing.
- 38:32SPEAKER_08: Uh, and then he becomes friends with a girl that's another chemical engineer, and she's realizing that they're diluting the blood drop.
- 38:39SPEAKER_08: So they're not just putting the actual blood drop onto the cartridge that they're putting in, they're diluting the blood.
- 38:45SPEAKER_06: What's semen?
- 38:48SPEAKER_06: It's an awful lot of white blood cells.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: They're swimming in there too.
- 38:54SPEAKER_08: But they're trying to uh basically make it so that they have more of a sample to use.
- 39:01SPEAKER_00: Because it's already a little drop, and then you're still diluting that little drop.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: What is it even well?
- 39:06SPEAKER_08: Because they're trying to say you only need a couple drops to get a diagnosis, but you don't.
- 39:11SPEAKER_08: And so they're diluting it in order to try to uh expand the amount of blood that you have so they can test it, if that makes sense.
- 39:20SPEAKER_08: Okay, because they don't have enough to sample, so they need more material, and so they they dilute it so they have more material to try to run the experiment on.
- 39:30SPEAKER_02: It's kind of like when you make Kool-Aid and it's too like sugary.
- 39:34SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 39:35SPEAKER_02: And you add more water, and you're like, really, mom?
- 39:38SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 39:39SPEAKER_02: It was good before.
- 39:40SPEAKER_06: I'm no doctor, but like, I don't so scientifically, I don't think that's how that works, dude.
- 39:48SPEAKER_08: I'm no doctor, but back to diabetes.
- 39:52SPEAKER_08: Maybe your mom was trying to help you out.
- 39:55SPEAKER_08: That's I haven't met Foreman in the car for me.
- 40:00SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah.
- 40:03SPEAKER_08: Um, other investors included Rupert Murdoch, the guy who is the founder of Fox News.
- 40:10SPEAKER_02: All these names are just like, yeah, they're going to prison.
- 40:16SPEAKER_02: That sounds like a name that you should be in prison.
- 40:20SPEAKER_08: Well, Rupert, Larry, and George are not in prison because they were just investors.
- 40:24SPEAKER_08: So yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 40:25SPEAKER_06: Um so they were the ones that were duped.
- 40:28SPEAKER_08: Exactly.
- 40:28SPEAKER_08: They were.
- 40:29SPEAKER_08: That's right.
- 40:29SPEAKER_08: That's right.
- 40:30SPEAKER_06: I've been looking for a reason to use the word duped.
- 40:33SPEAKER_08: Welcome to go and get sort pod.
- 40:37SPEAKER_08: Uh yeah.
- 40:39SPEAKER_08: So basically, Tyler is a whistleblower and he says to his grandpa, he's like, Grandpa, like it's not making sense.
- 40:46SPEAKER_08: The math doesn't math.
- 40:47SPEAKER_08: It's not doing what she says it's doing.
- 40:50SPEAKER_08: And the grandpa is like, You don't know what you're talking about, son, like grandson.
- 40:54SPEAKER_08: Like, go back to the laboratory.
- 40:56SPEAKER_08: And he the grandfather believes Elizabeth over his own grandson.
- 41:01SPEAKER_08: Can you believe that?
- 41:02SPEAKER_07: Dang.
- 41:02SPEAKER_08: Like, what would you do if your grandpa you went to your grandpa and you were like, Grandpa, this isn't right over here.
- 41:08SPEAKER_08: And he believes the other person and not you.
- 41:10SPEAKER_08: Like, grandpa, are you sleeping with her?
- 41:11SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that that would have been my first assumption as well.
- 41:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 41:15SPEAKER_00: Um, sad that we have to go there.
- 41:17SPEAKER_08: Sorry, but no, I know with my he's like 80, she's like 22.
- 41:22SPEAKER_08: So I mean, I don't think so.
- 41:25SPEAKER_06: That doesn't happen.
- 41:26SPEAKER_06: She was a lot.
- 41:27SPEAKER_08: I don't think so, but of interest, of interest.
- 41:30SPEAKER_08: So one thing that she did, so she started out, like I said, like this blonde, or maybe more of a brunette.
- 41:35SPEAKER_08: She ends up becoming more blonde, but white chick.
- 41:38SPEAKER_08: Um, she starts wearing turtlenecks and black suits, and they say it's an homage to like Steve Jobs, but it's also that so she'll be taken seriously.
- 41:48SPEAKER_08: So she would always have her hair like pulled back, usually.
- 41:52SPEAKER_08: She had makeup on, but she'd wear a turtle like a very severe turtleneck, and then she would talk like this.
- 41:58SPEAKER_08: So I don't know.
- 41:59SPEAKER_02: She wasn't being like maybe the turtleneck was like too tight in her voice.
- 42:04SPEAKER_08: I think she was trying to be more taken seriously.
- 42:08SPEAKER_08: That's where I'm like, I think that she was delusional, thinking it was actually gonna work.
- 42:14SPEAKER_03: It could be, yeah.
- 42:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she's just like sometimes like people that are really, really smart kind of go a little crazy because they're just so smart, and it's like their brain is working on hyperdrive that sometimes they go a little cuckoo.
- 42:28SPEAKER_06: So I am sorry to interrupt, but I love your fucking nails.
- 42:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, thanks.
- 42:33SPEAKER_06: They're so great.
- 42:34SPEAKER_00: I just got them done on Friday.
- 42:36SPEAKER_06: Hell yeah.
- 42:37SPEAKER_00: That's cool, huh?
- 42:37SPEAKER_00: Those are fucking awesome.
- 42:40SPEAKER_08: Uh sorry, that's okay.
- 42:45SPEAKER_08: Uh Tony is a nail connoisseur.
- 42:48SPEAKER_08: I know, I see your nails too.
- 42:49SPEAKER_08: Those are cool.
- 42:49SPEAKER_02: They're mushrooms.
- 42:50SPEAKER_02: Wow, I like them.
- 42:51SPEAKER_02: Those are cool.
- 42:52SPEAKER_00: All right, Elizabeth.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: No, no, it's okay.
- 42:54SPEAKER_00: So, so finally I'm like on the edge of my seat.
- 42:57SPEAKER_08: Yeah, finally, there's some other people that are kind of thinking it's a little something ain't right.
- 43:02SPEAKER_08: So then the New York Times starts investigating.
- 43:05SPEAKER_08: I think it's New York Times.
- 43:06SPEAKER_08: It might be Wall Street Journal, either way, but let's say both for the argument.
- 43:10SPEAKER_08: Um they start investigating.
- 43:14SPEAKER_08: Actually, I think it was the Wall Street Journal because Rupert Margaret owns the Wall Street Journal.
- 43:18SPEAKER_08: So she tried to go to Wall Street Journal to kill the story where they were asking questions whether or not the laboratory is working or not.
- 43:29SPEAKER_08: Uh they didn't kill the story.
- 43:31SPEAKER_08: And they end up running the story and explaining how none of these machines work.
- 43:37SPEAKER_08: And that they're actually telling patients, like, oh, your potassium levels are off when they are not off.
- 43:44SPEAKER_08: You have syphilis, you don't have syphilis, or you don't have syphilis, you do have syphilis.
- 43:48SPEAKER_08: So I know I just that's one of the ones I remembered that they that they covered.
- 43:52SPEAKER_08: But anyways, but so they're lying to the patients basically.
- 43:55SPEAKER_08: These patients are taking these tests and trying.
- 43:58SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 44:00unknown: Yeah.
- 44:01SPEAKER_05: It's fucked up.
- 44:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:03SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: But is the machine lying, or are they giving the diagnosis themselves?
- 44:08SPEAKER_02: So they are representing just a whole bunch of like it's a big warehouse with just a whole bunch of leaves.
- 44:15SPEAKER_08: They are misrepresenting what the machine can do.
- 44:18SPEAKER_08: Oh, okay.
- 44:18SPEAKER_08: So at one point she's trying to get into like CVS and Walgreens so that way they can do these diagnosis.
- 44:24SPEAKER_02: Like a vending machine, but for like diagnosis.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 44:28SPEAKER_00: I feel like she just had like a cardboard box and she'd like in her mind, it was a steel amazing thing, and she's just putting papers in it.
- 44:40SPEAKER_05: It's fucking funny.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: She hears Shaq on the TV.
- 44:42SPEAKER_02: She's like, I want to sound like that.
- 44:45SPEAKER_06: You know who her impression reminds me of?
- 44:48SPEAKER_06: Uh and you know, member matter of fact, we I watched it because we talked about it when we did you guys' podcast.
- 44:55SPEAKER_06: But I can't remember the name of the guy, the the serial killer dude that like kept his fucking dead mom or whatever in the house.
- 45:03SPEAKER_00: Oh, Bates.
- 45:04SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:06SPEAKER_06: No, it was Bernie.
- 45:07SPEAKER_08: Norman Bates.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:08SPEAKER_08: That no, that's a that's a fictional character, isn't it?
- 45:10SPEAKER_08: Norman Bates from Psycho.
- 45:12SPEAKER_02: No, we're talking about the movie, right?
- 45:15SPEAKER_02: No, it was a series.
- 45:17SPEAKER_00: No, we were talking about the series where he like does the voice of the mom and then the.
- 45:21SPEAKER_06: He's got that weird ass voice, yeah.
- 45:23SPEAKER_06: He like cross-dresses and shit.
- 45:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 45:26SPEAKER_06: Oh, okay.
- 45:26SPEAKER_00: It was basically.
- 45:27SPEAKER_00: Oh you're talking about the Ed Geen one.
- 45:30SPEAKER_06: Yes, dude, yes, that's the one.
- 45:32SPEAKER_06: That's that's what your fucking impression reminds me of when you do it.
- 45:37SPEAKER_06: Have you seen that shit?
- 45:38SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I had after like the third episode, I think I had that like.
- 45:43SPEAKER_06: That's that's what your impression makes me think of.
- 45:46SPEAKER_06: Mine?
- 45:47SPEAKER_06: Your impression of uh the the chick we're talking about.
- 45:51SPEAKER_07: This voice?
- 45:52SPEAKER_07: Yes, that's exactly what he sounds like, bro.
- 46:01SPEAKER_01: Do it again.
- 46:03SPEAKER_07: I don't know what you're talking about.
- 46:08SPEAKER_06: Yeah, she's definitely got a body in the trunk of her Tesla.
- 46:11SPEAKER_06: Oh my god, sidebar.
- 46:13SPEAKER_06: I don't know why I found this so funny.
- 46:14SPEAKER_06: Probably because I've been smoking weed since four o'clock this morning.
- 46:18SPEAKER_06: Um, but on the way here, dude, I saw it was uh like a Tesla, whatever fucking I don't know, a Tesla something or other.
- 46:28SPEAKER_06: But like it had a fucking Camry TRD badge on it.
- 46:34SPEAKER_06: Like in the bottom right-hand corner of the trunk where it would be on a Camry.
- 46:40SPEAKER_06: It was legit, like it wasn't like a fucking bumper sticker.
- 46:44SPEAKER_06: It was the legit badge, dude.
- 46:45SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 46:46SPEAKER_06: That shit took me the fuck out.
- 46:48SPEAKER_08: That's to own a Camry.
- 46:52SPEAKER_08: That Camry's still running.
- 46:55SPEAKER_02: They got a Tesla, but like, I want to be hood.
- 46:59SPEAKER_08: I can't leave my roots to fucking my my grandma, my parents had a crescida at one point in time, and then my grandma had the crusida, and then my cousin had the crescida, and I'm pretty sure that crusida is still running, and it's like a crush, a Toyota Crusada.
- 47:13SPEAKER_08: It was like the precursor to the uh Toyota camera.
- 47:17SPEAKER_03: Toyota Crusida, that sounds delicious.
- 47:18SPEAKER_03: I had a model tea.
- 47:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, dictionary.
- 47:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like a model tea.
- 47:23SPEAKER_00: I thought I was smart tag out here.
- 47:25unknown: No, you are.
- 47:26SPEAKER_08: No, they got my parents had it, my brother had it, my other brother had it, my grandma had it, my cousin had it, and it's like from I want to say like 1988 and still still running.
- 47:36SPEAKER_05: So that's crazy.
- 47:37SPEAKER_08: Yeah, Toyotas.
- 47:39SPEAKER_08: So what happens with basically they get up to 700 million dollars in investment.
- 47:45SPEAKER_02: God damn.
- 47:46SPEAKER_02: And the 700 million?
- 47:47SPEAKER_08: Yeah, and the company is valued anywhere, it's about$9 billion.
- 47:52SPEAKER_08: It's valued at$9 billion.
- 47:54SPEAKER_08: So a lot of people are investing in it because they're thinking, like, oh my gosh, this is the next future.
- 47:58SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 47:58SPEAKER_08: Well, there's the next Google, it's the next Facebook, it's the next, because it's Silicon Valley, right?
- 48:03SPEAKER_08: So that's how they're getting all these people.
- 48:04SPEAKER_08: But so eventually, I think again, like I said, I think it's Wall Street Journal that breaks it, and they're like, This, there's something wrong here.
- 48:11SPEAKER_08: So then that encourages finally uh federal investigations.
- 48:15SPEAKER_08: So the Northern District of California starts to prosecute the case, and uh they get uh Elizabeth and her prior boyfriend now, like because because Sunny was her boyfriend at one point in time, but he was also the COO of the company.
- 48:30SPEAKER_08: So she's a CEO, he's a COO, because he invested like a bunch of money in the company as well.
- 48:35SPEAKER_08: But they both get charged with wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
- 48:40SPEAKER_05: And um that wire fraud boy, yeah, everybody gets charged with that shit.
- 48:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah, so they both were convicted.
- 48:49SPEAKER_08: Now, originally they were gonna be tried together, but then they ended up being tried separately.
- 48:54SPEAKER_08: Any ideas as to why they would be tried separately?
- 48:59SPEAKER_08: Why can't answer a question with a question?
- 49:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, is he like saying like she made him do it or something?
- 49:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, is there something behind what are your thoughts, Tony?
- 49:15SPEAKER_00: I know you got thoughts over there.
- 49:17SPEAKER_06: Uh there's so many that I think that's that's initially where my brain went is like uh one of them is cooperating and one of them isn't.
- 49:28SPEAKER_08: Oh, that's interesting.
- 49:29SPEAKER_08: Or does it have to do with like being male or female?
- 49:33SPEAKER_08: Interesting.
- 49:34SPEAKER_08: These are all good.
- 49:35SPEAKER_08: These are all really good.
- 49:36SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, that's what I mean.
- 49:38SPEAKER_02: What's the race of her boyfriend?
- 49:40SPEAKER_02: That's a good question.
- 49:41SPEAKER_08: He's uh uh Pakistani.
- 49:43SPEAKER_08: Oh Sunny Balwani.
- 49:45SPEAKER_08: Yeah, he's a Pakistani, but I think he grew up in India because he is, I want to say Christian Catholic, and he was uh they wherever he was living in Pakistan was have they been convicted already?
- 49:58SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 49:59SPEAKER_00: I bet that he got more time than her.
- 50:02SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 50:03SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 50:04SPEAKER_06: I don't think so.
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: I think so because she's white.
- 50:08SPEAKER_06: And she's a woman.
- 50:10SPEAKER_00: That's okay.
- 50:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 50:12SPEAKER_06: Sorry.
- 50:12SPEAKER_06: You you make an extremely valid argument.
- 50:15SPEAKER_06: Uh however, they don't play about their fucking money.
- 50:19SPEAKER_06: And like she was the one that was orchestrating the whole fucking deal.
- 50:23SPEAKER_06: And he was just fucking, is it is it implicit?
- 50:26SPEAKER_06: Is that true?
- 50:27SPEAKER_06: But I feel like she was doing implicit.
- 50:29SPEAKER_00: I feel like she would be like, oh, he was manipulating me, some kind of boohoo.
- 50:34SPEAKER_06: She can't though, because she was the one out there making the connections.
- 50:40SPEAKER_06: Her name is on all well, I guess a vast majority of the paperwork, probably.
- 50:45SPEAKER_00: So it's kind of like every like trial type of thing.
- 50:49SPEAKER_00: Like we just watched um the Lizzie Borden one.
- 50:52SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 50:52SPEAKER_00: And they were like, no, she's so frail and little.
- 50:55SPEAKER_00: How would she carry a body?
- 50:58SPEAKER_00: And everybody was like defending her and she got away with it.
- 51:00SPEAKER_00: So I feel like it'd be the same thing with her.
- 51:02SPEAKER_00: It's like she's probably this like skinny white chick, and everybody's like, she's so smart and so nice.
- 51:08SPEAKER_00: How could she?
- 51:09SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 51:09SPEAKER_08: It's actually interesting.
- 51:10SPEAKER_08: No one gets hurt on this podcast, but Lindsay Borden case.
- 51:14SPEAKER_08: I saw the same, I think is it the uh Amer uh what's his name?
- 51:19SPEAKER_08: Uh Brian Murphy.
- 51:22SPEAKER_08: Yeah, the new one yeah, monster.
- 51:24SPEAKER_08: Yeah, so I actually agree the way that he portrays her, she did it.
- 51:29SPEAKER_08: But there's actually I've been reading up because I'm just interested in it, there's a lot of controversy whether she did it or not.
- 51:35SPEAKER_08: So I don't know.
- 51:36SPEAKER_08: It is interesting.
- 51:37SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 51:38SPEAKER_08: Anyways, so I haven't investigated enough, but yeah.
- 51:42SPEAKER_08: Anyways, um, so they were both charged in the same federal crime in June of 2018, but then their trials were severed because Holmes, uh, the chick, her defense involving allegations that Balwani had psychologically and sexually abused and controlled her.
- 52:02SPEAKER_08: Balwani denied those allegations.
- 52:04SPEAKER_08: Separate trials helped avoid prejudice arising from evidence concerning their relationship.
- 52:09SPEAKER_08: She testified in her own defense.
- 52:11SPEAKER_08: Balwani did not testify in his own defense, and they both were tried in front of the same judge, Judge Davia in San Jose.
- 52:19SPEAKER_08: What's interesting is I agree with you.
- 52:21SPEAKER_08: I I can see, I think, oh, what an easy escape.
- 52:25SPEAKER_08: Like, oh, he coerced.
- 52:27SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, extremely convenient.
- 52:28SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 52:29SPEAKER_08: But I also think to play devil's advocate, he was so much older than her, and he had been in the software sphere around originally.
- 52:38SPEAKER_08: When they portray him in different documentaries, he's a very angry, controlling person, allegedly in the business setting.
- 52:46SPEAKER_08: So maybe, but I also think she knew what she was doing.
- 52:50SPEAKER_08: So I think it was convenient.
- 52:51SPEAKER_06: It could be a little mix of both.
- 52:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I could see that completely.
- 52:54SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 52:54SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 52:55SPEAKER_08: And uh Amber is on the money today, man.
- 52:59SPEAKER_08: Sonny got more time than Elizabeth.
- 53:01SPEAKER_08: So that's I know my white criminals.
- 53:04SPEAKER_06: Well, see, but I didn't uh I didn't know that they had spun that angle on it.
- 53:10SPEAKER_06: That like he was like fucking controlling her, uh as opposed to her being the.
- 53:17SPEAKER_00: I think as soon as you said that they were they tried them separately, I was like, oh, that's a no-brainer.
- 53:22SPEAKER_00: Like something happened there where she's like, no.
- 53:25SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 53:26SPEAKER_08: I I think that uh yeah, I think that she used it as an opportunity.
- 53:31SPEAKER_08: I'm not saying I'm not saying he didn't do those things, but I also think she saw it as an opportunity.
- 53:36SPEAKER_08: But I also think he probably saw her as an opportunity because oh, this this young ambitious chick, like I could probably use her as like a you know did they use money to go like on vacations and stuff like that?
- 53:49SPEAKER_08: So it's interesting because uh one of the things I learned is that she was very much like this isn't about money, this is about health.
- 53:56SPEAKER_08: But then she'd have like a um Birkin bag, which is like sixty thousand dollars, you know, and so I don't know.
- 54:04SPEAKER_08: I mean, although she didn't wear like necessarily like flashy clothes, she definitely was indulging in the uh the spoils, thousands of turtlenecks, thousands, thousands, yeah, voice acting lessons.
- 54:22SPEAKER_08: So, although he did get more time, it's not like it's that much more time.
- 54:25SPEAKER_08: So she got 11 years and three months.
- 54:28SPEAKER_08: She was convicted on four counts, one conspiracy to commit wire fraud, three investor-related wire fraud counts, but she was acquitted of the patient-related counts decided by the jury.
- 54:39SPEAKER_06: So if I'm sorry to cut you off.
- 54:47SPEAKER_06: Does it get worse, like depending on how much money is involved?
- 54:54SPEAKER_06: That's a good is it is a wire charge or a wire fraud charge for$700 million, for example, worse than$7 million as far as sentencing?
- 55:06SPEAKER_02: It it has to, right?
- 55:07SPEAKER_02: Because like if if you you commit like theft, like there's there's certain amounts of like theft become like petty theft, and then like grand larceny, and then yada yada, right?
- 55:19SPEAKER_02: I would say so.
- 55:20SPEAKER_08: But I don't think but once you get to a million, let's say it's probably a million or seven million or ten million or twenty million.
- 55:28SPEAKER_08: I don't think the code, I'm pretty confident the code doesn't have maybe they will down the road, but right now that does not, I don't believe that's in the code.
- 55:35SPEAKER_08: So I don't know.
- 55:36SPEAKER_08: So she got 11 years.
- 55:37SPEAKER_08: She got 11 years, three months.
- 55:40SPEAKER_02: She'll probably do only like a couple of days.
- 55:44SPEAKER_00: No, no.
- 55:48SPEAKER_08: Sonny was convicted of 12 years, 11 months.
- 55:52SPEAKER_08: He was uh convicted of 12 counts.
- 55:54SPEAKER_08: So she was convicted of four counts.
- 55:55SPEAKER_08: Different juries, remember?
- 55:56SPEAKER_08: So, but uh yeah, so she had four counts.
- 55:59SPEAKER_08: His 12 counts were two conspiracy counts, 10 wire fraud counts, and his convinc his convictions involved investors and patients.
- 56:07SPEAKER_06: Dude, well, by that math, he got off easier than her.
- 56:10SPEAKER_08: And then they have joint restitution, so they both have to pay back um$452 million.
- 56:15SPEAKER_08: Damn, how do you pay that back?
- 56:17SPEAKER_06: That's fucking generational.
- 56:19SPEAKER_06: Yeah, generational fucking debt.
- 56:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so wait, so like her children or like their joke.
- 56:28SPEAKER_00: Oh, I'm like, oh my god, that's real.
- 56:30SPEAKER_08: No, no, no.
- 56:33SPEAKER_08: Speaking of children, though, speaking of female privilege, possibly.
- 56:37SPEAKER_08: Oh here we go.
- 56:39SPEAKER_03: Uh oh.
- 56:39SPEAKER_08: What do you think she did?
- 56:40SPEAKER_08: What would you think would be the most uh what do you think would be the most that you could do as a woman when you're going to trial?
- 56:48SPEAKER_06: Get pregnant.
- 56:49SPEAKER_08: That's right.
- 56:50SPEAKER_08: She shows up pregnant.
- 56:51SPEAKER_06: Now, like legit pregnant, or like she's pregnant.
- 56:54SPEAKER_06: No, she's legit.
- 56:54SPEAKER_08: She's legit pregnant.
- 56:55SPEAKER_08: She's she's really smart.
- 56:57SPEAKER_08: She's playing, she's playing the whole thing.
- 56:59SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
- 57:00SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 57:00SPEAKER_08: She ends up, she's not legally married, but she's married to a younger man whose family are millionaires of their own right.
- 57:08SPEAKER_08: Uh, I think like they own a bunch of hotels in San Diego or something like that.
- 57:12SPEAKER_06: And it's his baby.
- 57:13SPEAKER_08: It's his baby.
- 57:13SPEAKER_08: He went to MIT, so he's like a he didn't, he's not, I don't think he's a science person per se, but like he went to MIT.
- 57:20SPEAKER_08: So they're both, you know.
- 57:22SPEAKER_08: I want to see what she looks like.
- 57:23SPEAKER_03: I'm like dying, like her.
- 57:26SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 57:27SPEAKER_08: So um, yes, and then he uh this was the sentences were imposed in November and December 2022.
- 57:35SPEAKER_08: So they're still in prison.
- 57:36SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 57:37SPEAKER_08: So she had her baby in prison.
- 57:38SPEAKER_08: She had both, yeah.
- 57:39SPEAKER_08: I believe her first baby, I don't know if she had the first one in prison, uh, but I think she had him around that time.
- 57:46SPEAKER_08: I don't think that she delivered in prison, but I think it was delayed so that she could have the babies in pr out of prison, I believe.
- 57:52SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 57:52SPEAKER_08: I don't, I apologize.
- 57:53SPEAKER_08: I don't have she has twins?
- 57:55SPEAKER_08: No, she had two kids.
- 57:56SPEAKER_08: She has two kids.
- 57:57SPEAKER_08: Oh so he did like conjugal visits and then got her pregnant?
- 57:59SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I don't know.
- 58:00SPEAKER_08: You know, I did not investigate that closely, so my apologies.
- 58:03SPEAKER_02: She kept the violen from that was a blood one, never mind.
- 58:11SPEAKER_02: Whoops.
- 58:11SPEAKER_08: And then the easy bake oven.
- 58:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 58:16SPEAKER_08: Yes, yes.
- 58:17SPEAKER_02: So her baby now has diabetes.
- 58:20SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 58:20SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 58:21SPEAKER_08: So turtleneck.
- 58:23SPEAKER_08: That's right.
- 58:24SPEAKER_02: Little baby turtleneck.
- 58:25SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 58:26SPEAKER_08: So I think um one of the things, one of my notes that I wrote for why Sonny might have gotten more time than Elizabeth, is um they the juries had different verdicts, they had different juries.
- 58:35SPEAKER_08: Um Holmes's jury found that the government proved investor fraud beyond reasonable doubt, but not the patient-related charges.
- 58:42SPEAKER_08: And Balwani's jury found that the government proved both.
- 58:45SPEAKER_08: So they had um they had two different things going on, and uh they thought that he was doing more uh ill like legal things behind the scenes, I guess.
- 58:56SPEAKER_06: Um if they were charged, I'm sorry, if they were charged together, would they have to prove that both of them did the the patient crimes, or like if one of them did and one of them didn't, would they still be able to charge them with it?
- 59:10SPEAKER_08: Uh ask that one more time.
- 59:13SPEAKER_06: So, like how he got charged with the the medical crimes as well?
- 59:17SPEAKER_08: Patient, the patient investors, yes.
- 59:19SPEAKER_08: Uh-huh.
- 59:20SPEAKER_06: If uh if they were charged together and they found the reasonable doubt for her, but not for him, would they still be able to be charged with that?
- 59:28SPEAKER_08: Well, yeah, the jury, the the one jury would hear both cases.
- 59:32SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 59:33SPEAKER_08: And then they would uh have their own list of convictions or non-convictions on each of them separately.
- 59:38SPEAKER_08: So the conviction wouldn't be joint.
- 59:40SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 59:41SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 59:41SPEAKER_08: But um but it that's a smart move to because you're gonna be like he did it, she did it.
- 59:49SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 59:49SPEAKER_08: And that's why you don't go to trial together.
- 59:51SPEAKER_02: So so it's only joint if like both juries find them both like well it's separate trials.
- 59:59SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 59:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, got it.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_08: It would be one one jury would find them both guilty, but it wouldn't be like a joint guilty.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_08: It would be like she's guilty, he's guilty.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_08: The other thing that's interesting is she testified he didn't.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_08: So that's uh she's a convincing person, right?
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_08: She's a she's a manipulator, I think.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_08: So she was able to convince the jury to find in her favor.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_00: Do you think like his race had something to do with it too?
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_08: Silicon Valley, I think, is pretty mixed.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_08: So I don't know.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_08: And he's rich.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_08: So he could afford a very good attorney.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_08: She had a really good attorney.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_08: I don't I don't know.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_08: And plus, all the investors a lot of the investors are white, right?
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_08: So I don't know.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_08: It's interesting.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_08: It's an interesting thing.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_08: I guess that's where my mind always goes, too, is like the jury.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_08: True, true.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_08: So you can rest assured that these two are locked up and are gonna be locked up for a little bit longer at least.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_08: And uh don't invest in people that are manipulators, is the uh bottom line here.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_08: So anyway, so besides uh Brea, what do you have coming up?
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_02: Uh I do got a couple of stuff.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_02: Uh we have Boodle Laughs, which is every second uh every second Thursday in the city of Paramount at the Mexican Monk.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_02: So we we have that comedy show.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_02: Um, and then I just have a whole bunch of other stuff, stuff coming up uh November and December.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_02: So just go to my Instagram account.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_02: All that good stuff.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_08: Antonio?
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_06: Uh I have a show tomorrow, and that's pretty much it that I have scheduled as of right now.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_08: Is it flappers or rad?
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_08: Is that the one with Jesse?
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_06: Uh no, he uh was supposed to be last night, uh, but he was unable to attend last night.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_08: Did you do floppers last night too?
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I fucking bombed dick.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah, it was bad.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_06: I'm sorry.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it happens.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_06: I don't care.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I'm doing a five-minute comedy competition, but it's this uh episode is gonna air, I think, the day after.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_08: So at the comedy store in La Jolla.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_05: So cool, cool.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_08: Very excited, very excited for that.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_08: Hopefully, um, you know, we'll be happy that day.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_08: So we'll see.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_08: Anyways, thank you guys so much for being a part of today's episode and dressing up.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_08: So fun, happy Halloween.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_08: Uh, like and subscribe.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_08: Thanks, everybody.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_08: See you next time.
- 1:02:18unknown: Bye.
