- 0:00Speaker 1: Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed joins us now.
- 0:04Speaker 2: How you doing, Abdul? I'm good, Jesse.
- 0:08Speaker 3: I appreciate the opportunity for a good, wholesome conversation, and
- 0:11Speaker 3: I just want to start where we agree. We both
- 0:13Speaker 3: played football and lacrosse. We both love America. We both
- 0:16Speaker 3: love freedom, and I'm looking forward to the conversation.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 0:19Speaker 1: We'll see how much we agree on. I know I
- 0:21Speaker 1: don't agree with you on this. You want to abolish ICE.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Who's going to.
- 0:25Speaker 4: Deport the criminal aliens from the country?
- 0:29Speaker 3: Well, you and I both know that we've—long before we
- 0:32Speaker 3: ever had ICE, we had INS. We were able to
- 0:34Speaker 3: enforce our immigration policies without shooting people in the face
- 0:37Speaker 3: and the back of the head. And we just celebrated
- 0:39Speaker 3: our 250th anniversary. That was an anniversary of throwing away tyranny. Now,
- 0:44Speaker 3: to bring that tyranny back under the guise of the U.S.
- 0:46Speaker 3: government itself, that seems to me to be inconsistent with
- 0:49Speaker 3: the freedom you and I both love.
- 0:51Speaker 4: Yeah, but, I mean, that's a dodge, Abdul.
- 0:53Speaker 1: They did the same thing as ICE back then, INS.
- 0:56Speaker 4: Do you know how many illegal aliens are in the
- 0:58Speaker 4: country now?
- 0:59Speaker 3: In the face, in the back of the head?
- 1:00Speaker 4: Do you know how many illegal aliens are in the
- 1:02Speaker 4: country now?
- 1:04Speaker 5: We had, no, I mean, to your point, Jesse, Jesse,
- 1:06Speaker 5: let me just answer the question.
- 1:07Speaker 2: To answer it, how many do we have? We had far.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Fewer when we had INS. To your answer, we had
- 1:12Speaker 3: far fewer when we had INS. So arguably, INS worked
- 1:15Speaker 3: a lot better.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Abdul, listen, we had twice as many illegals now when
- 1:18Speaker 4: we had INS.
- 1:19Speaker 2: So to your argument, you have to have the manpower
- 1:22Speaker 2: to do it.
- 1:22Speaker 3: If you want to do that correlation, We have ICE now,
- 1:25Speaker 3: and we have far, far more undocumented people. So ICE
- 1:28Speaker 3: is clearly not working. It's just shooting, like, American citizens
- 1:31Speaker 3: in the face and the back.
- 1:32Speaker 5: Of the head.
- 1:32Speaker 4: So if you're okay with that, then I guess we
- 1:34Speaker 4: have to agree to disagree. You say you want socialized
- 1:38Speaker 4: health care. Abdul, how much is that going to cost?
- 1:44Speaker 3: It's going to cost the average Michigander a whole lot
- 1:45Speaker 3: less than they pay right now. But I'm just going
- 1:47Speaker 3: to tell you, I'm up against a guy who voted
- 1:50Speaker 3: to raise prescription drug prices 19 times, 19 times, right?
- 1:55Speaker 3: And so I'm just saying I want to bring your
- 1:56Speaker 3: costs down. The price of the program is going to
- 1:59Speaker 3: be substantially less for an everyday person who's out here
- 2:03Speaker 3: who can't afford their health care and worried about losing
- 2:05Speaker 3: their health care with their job.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Give me the total number.
- 2:07Speaker 3: While you're out here trying to talk about the broader
- 2:09Speaker 3: national budget, I'm a lot more interested in the everyday
- 2:12Speaker 3: budgets that Michiganders are thinking about. And that's exactly the
- 2:14Speaker 3: budget that Donald Trump and Mike Rogers are blowing up
- 2:17Speaker 3: right now. I just don't see why you're so on
- 2:19Speaker 3: the side of the billionaires, Jesse, rather than on the
- 2:21Speaker 3: side of everyday Michiganders.
- 2:22Speaker 1: No, because I don't want you guys to blow the
- 2:24Speaker 1: country up. Do you know how much the federal budget
- 2:26Speaker 1: is now?
- 2:27Speaker 2: No, neither do I. What's the federal budget?
- 2:30Speaker 5: You guys want to.
- 2:31Speaker 2: P. Hexeth, who used to work for your channel, wanted
- 2:34Speaker 2: to raise.
- 2:36Speaker 3: No, no, no.
- 2:36Speaker 5: I just want to talk about this. Look, you want
- 2:38Speaker 5: to talk about budgets, I'm happy to do that.
- 2:40Speaker 3: The guy who used to work on your channel, I
- 2:42Speaker 3: think he was like the sixth host on The Five,
- 2:44Speaker 3: he wanted to raise our military budget to $ 1. 5 trillion,
- 2:48Speaker 3: and you don't seem to be upset about that. What,
- 2:51Speaker 3: so we could fight a war we don't know how
- 2:52Speaker 3: to get out of to raise our gas prices $ 5
- 2:54Speaker 3: a gallon? That doesn't make sense to me, Jesse. We
- 2:56Speaker 3: want to talk about the things that we actually should
- 2:57Speaker 3: spend on.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I have a feeling, Abdul, you don't even know how
- 3:01Speaker 1: much money the government spends every year. Do you know?
- 3:06Speaker 3: Look, the question, Jesse, to me is I know what
- 3:08Speaker 3: Michiganders are spending.
- 3:08Speaker 2: All right, so you don't know. Let me tell you
- 3:10Speaker 2: what it is.
- 3:10Speaker 4: It's $ 7 trillion a year.
- 3:12Speaker 1: And your plan to take over the health care system
- 3:15Speaker 1: is $ 4 trillion.
- 3:16Speaker 3: And here's the problem with it. So to exactly your point,
- 3:18Speaker 3: do you know what? I'm not very good at math.
- 3:20Speaker 3: I don't think you're very good at math either, but
- 3:22Speaker 3: go ahead.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Clearly. Clearly, clearly, clearly you don't.
- 3:27Speaker 5: And you don't seem to care.
- 3:28Speaker 3: But I don't think most Americans want to spend that
- 3:30Speaker 3: much money on military escapades so that the folks stranded
- 3:35Speaker 3: on the USS Abraham Lincoln can't even get a sausage
- 3:37Speaker 3: for breakfast. I just think that we could do a
- 3:39Speaker 3: lot better with our money, Jesse, and I think that's
- 3:41Speaker 3: where you and I.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Tend to disagree.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I just disagree.
- 3:44Speaker 2: I think if you spend $ 4 trillion.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Everything else is going to get really expensive.
- 3:49Speaker 1: You're going to look back at Bidenflation and you're going
- 3:51Speaker 1: to wish you were back there.
- 3:52Speaker 4: You also said this.
- 3:54Speaker 1: You want to replace the right to bear arms with
- 3:58Speaker 1: the right to health care. You don't want to replace
- 4:00Speaker 1: the Second Amendment, do you?
- 4:04Speaker 3: Well, look, man, I think more people are more worried
- 4:07Speaker 3: about whether or not they can see a doctor than.
- 4:09Speaker 5: Whether or not they can have a gun.
- 4:10Speaker 3: I'm just going to put that out there.
- 4:11Speaker 4: I mean, you're dodging the question.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Do you want to replace the Second Amendment?
- 4:15Speaker 3: I'm just saying that more people are more concerned about
- 4:18Speaker 3: seeing a doctor. If we had a right to health
- 4:19Speaker 3: care in this country, they probably wouldn't. And I think
- 4:21Speaker 3: that'd be a pretty good thing, don't you?
- 4:23Speaker 1: I think you dodged the question. And that's a pretty
- 4:25Speaker 1: big one in Michigan. So, Abdul, you're a doctor, right?
- 4:31Speaker 3: I am.
- 4:31Speaker 4: So you think it's okay for a parent to slash his.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Kid's thing on the university?
- 4:36Speaker 4: You think that's okay?
- 4:38Speaker 2: I mean, do you really want to have this conversation?
- 4:41Speaker 3: Are you circumcised?
- 4:42Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but I mean, that's a personal question, doctor.
- 4:47Speaker 2: So you probably should want to move on.
- 4:48Speaker 5: You probably should want to move on.
- 4:50Speaker 4: Is circumcision different than castration?
- 4:53Speaker 5: I think it's a problem.
- 4:55Speaker 3: That you think that you get to decide what happens
- 4:58Speaker 3: between a doctor and a patient. And I'm just saying that, yes,
- 5:02Speaker 3: circumcision is surgery on a kid's ding-a-ling. So if you
- 5:05Speaker 3: really want to bring that up, you can. I just
- 5:07Speaker 3: think you guys are really selective about how you.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Want to talk about these things.
- 5:09Speaker 4: Abdul, Michigan's not going for that. That is sick stuff.
- 5:13Speaker 2: As you realize, Michigan's kind of scary. Simply, people don't
- 5:17Speaker 2: go for that.
- 5:20Speaker 4: You know, it's like men.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Aren't equal for women.
- 5:22Speaker 4: It's like physical punishments. You like to say the word.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Jesse, Jesse, look, you like to say the word. I
- 5:29Speaker 2: don't think that's a good position. Nobody's pushing it.
- 5:32Speaker 3: No, no, but Jesse, Jesse, nobody's pushing it. You know
- 5:34Speaker 3: what the issue is in Michigan?
- 5:36Speaker 2: What?
- 5:36Speaker 3: The issue that people are worried about is not that
- 5:38Speaker 3: somehow somebody's going to come and push a real law
- 5:40Speaker 3: on them. The issue in Michigan is people are worried
- 5:41Speaker 3: about how they're going to afford their gas. The issue
- 5:43Speaker 3: in Michigan is how am I going to see a
- 5:44Speaker 3: doctor when I get sick? How am I going to
- 5:46Speaker 3: keep my job?
- 5:47Speaker 2: You're out here. Honestly, you guys love to play this
- 5:48Speaker 2: culture war game. I agree with you.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Where you use these words that sound really foreign to
- 5:53Speaker 3: avoid actually having to talk about the issues that everyday
- 5:56Speaker 3: people like to talk about. Now, look, Mike Rogers is
- 5:58Speaker 3: the guy I'm running against for USN. And I know
- 6:00Speaker 3: you've had him on your show. Maybe he answers questions.
- 6:02Speaker 2: I don't know if he does.
- 6:03Speaker 5: I've actually never.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Had him on. But look, You haven't. So he's ducking
- 6:07Speaker 2: your show, too, because he's ducking. Look, can we all agree?
- 6:09Speaker 2: I haven't invited him on. I'm going to have a debate, right?
- 6:11Speaker 3: Can we all agree that Mike Rogers is a beta?
- 6:13Speaker 2: Can we all agree with that? I haven't even had
- 6:14Speaker 2: him on.
- 6:15Speaker 5: Dude won't even come on your show because he's afraid
- 6:16Speaker 5: of getting grilled.
- 6:18Speaker 4: And I will have him on. That guy wants to
- 6:20Speaker 4: be out.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Here talking like, Jesse, let me just say. Can I
- 6:22Speaker 2: back up for one second?
- 6:23Speaker 3: He's out here trying to talk about Mike.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Can I back up for one second?
- 6:27Speaker 3: Finish my point. I'll finish.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I'll be quick.
- 6:28Speaker 4: Okay, because Mike Rogers isn't here to defend himself.
- 6:30Speaker 3: He thinks he's running against Hasan Piker. Well, maybe then
- 6:34Speaker 3: he'll actually come on your show. Maybe I'm doing you
- 6:36Speaker 3: a favor then. But the guy's a beta, doesn't like
- 6:38Speaker 3: to answer questions, and he dodges every debate. So I'm
- 6:40Speaker 3: pretty sure he's going to dodge you too.
- 6:41Speaker 4: I don't think I need Mike Rogers on the show,
- 6:43Speaker 4: but thanks, sir.
- 6:43Speaker 2: All I'm going to say is this.
- 6:44Speaker 4: Thanks for booking it. Reparations.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Do you support that?
- 6:50Speaker 3: I think we need to have an honest conversation about
- 6:52Speaker 3: the incredible debt that was put upon black folks as
- 6:55Speaker 3: a function of slavery that we have yet to pay.
- 6:58Speaker 3: And I just think that's fair. Like, if people are
- 7:01Speaker 3: enslaved and forced into servitude, and then we don't actually
- 7:05Speaker 3: have a conversation about all that was owed, that our
- 7:08Speaker 3: own country agreed was owed, I just think that it's
- 7:12Speaker 3: past time to have that conversation. That shouldn't be a
- 7:13Speaker 3: crazy thing. You know, I understand that, like, for folks
- 7:17Speaker 3: who really want to inflame culture war... I just think
- 7:19Speaker 3: it's important for us to think about how do we
- 7:21Speaker 3: make sure that communities like the city of Detroit that
- 7:24Speaker 3: have been segregated so that you have a disproportionate number
- 7:27Speaker 3: of people as a function of redlining who are forced
- 7:30Speaker 3: into certain communities, how do we make sure that their
- 7:32Speaker 3: schools are made whole?
- 7:33Speaker 2: I'll just tell you this.
- 7:34Speaker 3: In the city of Detroit right now, they just had
- 7:36Speaker 3: $ 700 million invested in their schools.
- 7:38Speaker 2: They're still $ 1.
- 7:38Speaker 3: 7 billion behind. And a lot of folks want to say, oh, well,
- 7:42Speaker 3: that's profligacy, et cetera, et cetera. No, a lot of
- 7:45Speaker 3: that has to do with public policy. And if public
- 7:47Speaker 3: policy created a level in which black folks disproportionately suffer
- 7:51Speaker 3: everything from maternal mortality and infant mortality to lack of
- 7:55Speaker 3: access to jobs, I think it's important for our country
- 7:57Speaker 3: to have a conversation about how we make people whole.
- 7:59Speaker 1: You want to have a conversation about it because we
- 8:01Speaker 1: have you on the record as backing it.
- 8:03Speaker 4: But now you just want to have a conversation.
- 8:05Speaker 5: I got it. I got it.
- 8:07Speaker 4: I respect the fact that you came on.
- 8:09Speaker 1: I don't think you've really looked into some of the
- 8:12Speaker 1: policies you're pushing.
- 8:14Speaker 4: You seem a little naive, Abdul.
- 8:16Speaker 1: I give you credit for facing the music, but some
- 8:19Speaker 1: of the stuff's just straight up wacky.
- 8:21Speaker 4: You know, I don't know if that's going to fly
- 8:23Speaker 4: in Michigan, but we're going to find out.
- 8:24Speaker 2: You know what's wacky? We're going to find out.
- 8:26Speaker 1: We're going to find out.
- 8:27Speaker 3: And you know what's wacky? Yeah.
- 8:29Speaker 2: You know what's wacky, though?
- 8:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Can I just tell you? You know what you.
- 8:31Speaker 5: Didn't ask me about?
- 8:32Speaker 2: What?
- 8:32Speaker 3: We got a president of the United States who cares
- 8:34Speaker 3: more about the drapes in a ballroom that shouldn't be
- 8:36Speaker 3: built than he cares about the war he just got
- 8:38Speaker 3: us into or that he cares about the affordability crisis.
- 8:41Speaker 3: That seems to me to be a little bit wacky.
- 8:43Speaker 3: If we want to have a serious conversation about what
- 8:44Speaker 3: Michiganders are feeling, I'd love to.
- 8:46Speaker 5: Come back on and talk about getting money out of politics,
- 8:48Speaker 5: putting money.
- 8:49Speaker 3: In your pocket, passing Medicare for all.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Okay, we'll do it again.
- 8:50Speaker 5: Because I'm telling you, none of that is wacky, and
- 8:52Speaker 5: that's what Michiganders want.
- 8:53Speaker 2: We'll do it again, Abdul. I look forward to it, Jesse.
- 8:55Speaker 5: It was a good conversation.
- 8:56Speaker 2: All right. Thank you so much.
- 8:57Speaker 4: Good luck in Michigan.
- 8:58Speaker 2: See, at least I don't dodge you.
- 8:59Speaker 1: No.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:01Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Like 25%.
- 9:01Speaker 4: Have a good night.
