- 0:14Don Armstrong: What?
- 0:14Don Armstrong: He's gonna be our guest.
- 0:15Don Armstrong: Plus, Jeff has a story about the four-door Ford Mustang.
- 0:19Don Armstrong: Didn't we do a Chevy Camaro four-door?
- 0:23Jeff Dziekan: You talked about it when we were doing the Camaro segment.
- 0:25Jeff Dziekan: You said does a Mustang have it?
- 0:27Jeff Dziekan: So look into it and here we go.
- 0:28Don Armstrong: Here you go.
- 0:29Don Armstrong: Mars has this week's driving destinations, howdy.
- 0:32Don Armstrong: Along with Mike Out of This World Mars, we always need more Jeff Zeke and Chief Engineer David Einsley.
- 0:37Don Armstrong: I'm Don Armstrong.
- 0:38Don Armstrong: Thank you, and we appreciate you joining us for our live show here on Saturday morning.
- 0:45Don Armstrong: All right.
- 0:46Don Armstrong: I am absolutely enthralled by the subject matter.
- 0:51Don Armstrong: And uh from what I read, this guy here is uh supposed to be like a smiling oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 0:59SPEAKER_02: We're gonna have some fun, boys.
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: We are gonna have some fun.
- 1:03Don Armstrong: Oh god, I can I can barely wait.
- 1:06Don Armstrong: I read the bio, I get it, I got it.
- 1:09Don Armstrong: And uh so this is called Spill the Beans.
- 1:12Don Armstrong: That's right.
- 1:13Don Armstrong: Okay, with Dom Dom Jenova.
- 1:15Don Armstrong: Now he's a former dealer, and uh so where where was the dealership?
- 1:21Don Armstrong: What did you sell?
- 1:22SPEAKER_04: Well, let me tell you the story.
- 1:23SPEAKER_04: Is that I I worked for Chrysler for 17 years at the factory, as a as a factory rep calling on dealers.
- 1:29SPEAKER_04: So I called on like 450 dealers in my career.
- 1:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, now when you're working for the company, it's a bureaucracy.
- 1:35SPEAKER_04: Your your your progress is is uh gonna be on how much you kiss your boss's butt.
- 1:42SPEAKER_04: And if you have an innovative idea, it's like not the way he got ahead, so he's not gonna listen to it.
- 1:49SPEAKER_04: So I decided to, my wife and I decided to take our ball and go home.
- 1:54SPEAKER_04: We started a dealership in upstate New York after quitting Chrysler after 17 years.
- 1:58SPEAKER_04: I had$80,000.
- 2:00SPEAKER_04: We moved into a building with no power, no water.
- 2:03SPEAKER_04: We were going across the street to the Ford dealership to take a poop for God's sakes.
- 2:08SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 2:08Jeff Dziekan: We usually do that here too.
- 2:10Jeff Dziekan: We poop on a lot of Ford.
- 2:11SPEAKER_04: Well, hopefully not on air.
- 2:13SPEAKER_04: Uh but the thing is that I went from six people, six to eight people when we started the dealership.
- 2:19SPEAKER_04: I can show you the the the photographs at some time, to um having uh 85 people working for me, selling 80 million dollars worth of stuff a year.
- 2:30SPEAKER_04: It was all because it was all because of our philosophy.
- 2:34SPEAKER_04: Our philosophy was treating people like well, like it's like it's a I don't know, a um uh an orchard.
- 2:41SPEAKER_04: Okay, so you have an orchard of trees, it can give you it can give you apples every year, or you can cut it down and make firewood out of it.
- 2:51SPEAKER_04: And after listening to all of these people that uh I called on as dealers and how they operated, and listening to the public, and the public, well, it's amazing.
- 3:01SPEAKER_04: 87% of the people that go shopping for a car don't like buying a car, and then 24% of them would rather have a root canal.
- 3:10SPEAKER_04: You'd rather have a root canal.
- 3:13SPEAKER_04: My web guys one day shows me a picture of what he wants my um my my website to look like, and it's some dentist in the guy's mouth.
- 3:21SPEAKER_04: And no, we're not doing that, okay?
- 3:24SPEAKER_04: So I started advertising real price and real payment, which I've always thought was the way to go.
- 3:30SPEAKER_04: You eliminate the finance manager's bullshit stuff, okay?
- 3:33SPEAKER_04: He says there's some good stuff.
- 3:34SPEAKER_04: There's a bit that's the difference if you're loading the the payment or not, or and and and we started advertising real price and real payment.
- 3:42SPEAKER_04: Now that morphed into your no-nonsense car dealer.
- 3:46SPEAKER_04: And I've made a lot of money by being upfront.
- 3:50SPEAKER_04: Now, I want to ask you a question.
- 3:52SPEAKER_04: Think of the best hamburger you ever had, okay?
- 3:55SPEAKER_04: Was it McDonald's?
- 3:57SPEAKER_04: No, of course not, of course not.
- 4:00SPEAKER_04: Because McDonald's, they treat you well.
- 4:02SPEAKER_04: They're they don't do price, uh, they don't do price fixing, they don't do uh uh bait and switch.
- 4:09SPEAKER_04: If you want to get a uh a hamburger, they never say, well, we're out of hamburgers now.
- 4:13SPEAKER_04: You have to buy a Big Mac, right?
- 4:15SPEAKER_04: Like car car dealers do.
- 4:16SPEAKER_04: You put one car in the paper that you're gonna sell at that at that price, and and when somebody comes in to buy the damn thing, you say it was it was sold to your brother-in-law last week.
- 4:25SPEAKER_04: I mean, all these tricks I put into a book because I want to help some people not get screwed, because I made a very good life out of myself, we um out of my career.
- 4:39SPEAKER_04: We um sold the dealerships, uh two dealerships it was by then, uh, on uh March 5th of 2020, which is a week before the covert shutdown.
- 4:48SPEAKER_04: So God timing is everything.
- 4:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so I have a I have a uh a website most naturally.
- 4:55SPEAKER_04: I have my own radio show here in Rochester.
- 4:57SPEAKER_04: Now everybody, now you're in Texas, you know, so you you must know a lot of people from Rochester.
- 5:02SPEAKER_04: Oh tons.
- 5:04SPEAKER_04: They're all moving to Texas, okay?
- 5:06SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 5:07SPEAKER_04: Um, and uh and and the book goes over uh uh everything that you don't know that I know that I can teach you.
- 5:15SPEAKER_04: And and that's what it is because people love cars, they don't like buying cars.
- 5:19SPEAKER_04: I love cars.
- 5:20SPEAKER_04: I mean, I have I have two cars I really love.
- 5:22SPEAKER_04: I have a 2000 2011 Mustang, uh Shelby Mustang convertible.
- 5:27SPEAKER_04: Okay, it's white with a red white with a red interior.
- 5:30Mike Marrs: Nice.
- 5:31SPEAKER_04: I love that car.
- 5:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I said to my daughter, I said, um I said, uh I know it looks like a midlife crisis.
- 5:36SPEAKER_04: She goes, no, no, she goes, it's more like a three-quarter life crisis, dad.
- 5:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, thank you very much.
- 5:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:43SPEAKER_04: I'll just wield a car to your sister, okay?
- 5:45SPEAKER_04: Don't worry about it.
- 5:47SPEAKER_04: So that's in short, you know, that I mean, if you want to get into some specifics or you want me to go in any other direction, that is that's my story.
- 5:55Don Armstrong: One thing that comes to mind is that the federal government has now stepped in and said, hey, look, you guys, the these car dealers, you're gonna advertise a car, you gotta advertise it for the price of the car and not some add-on stuff that you've added on, and they're clamping down on it and they're finding dealers.
- 6:15SPEAKER_04: Well, what you know it I worded it to um actually I had a conversation with the uh New York State Attorney General.
- 6:22SPEAKER_04: I happened to be at a meeting and she was there, and I said, here here's here's the analogy, okay?
- 6:28SPEAKER_04: Is that we all do 70 and a 65, right?
- 6:33SPEAKER_04: I mean, we all do that, everybody, but there's some people that are driving drunk or they are going 150 and they need to be caught.
- 6:42SPEAKER_04: So that's what I'm trying to do.
- 6:44SPEAKER_04: The the dealer who exaggerates a little bit, you know, we all say the great the cars are great.
- 6:48SPEAKER_04: I mean, you know, I mean, who says, hey, you know that car over there?
- 6:51SPEAKER_04: That's really a piece of crap.
- 6:52SPEAKER_04: I wouldn't buy that.
- 6:52SPEAKER_04: I mean, I I you know, I gotta move the car, okay?
- 6:56SPEAKER_04: So you you you maybe discount the car or whatever, but you can't throw away cars, all right?
- 7:01SPEAKER_04: So not all of them are great.
- 7:02SPEAKER_04: So you're you're gonna exaggerate a little bit and whatever.
- 7:05SPEAKER_04: That's just life, okay?
- 7:07SPEAKER_04: But the guys, the the guys that I've seen, I mean, look at this.
- 7:12SPEAKER_04: I have in in my book uh a fella who advertised a Jeep Grand Cherokee for$299.
- 7:19SPEAKER_04: Says your payment is$299.
- 7:22SPEAKER_04: You know what it was in the small print?
- 7:24SPEAKER_04: You're never gonna guess this.
- 7:26Jeff Dziekan: How much down?
- 7:28Jeff Dziekan: It was yeah, how much down?
- 7:30SPEAKER_04: No, every other week.
- 7:32Don Armstrong: Every other in the small print every other week.
- 7:37SPEAKER_04: Every other week.
- 7:38SPEAKER_04: So the payment was really$598.
- 7:40SPEAKER_04: Okay, now think about this.
- 7:42SPEAKER_04: Me as a car dealer, this guy is fishing upstream with a net.
- 7:47SPEAKER_04: I don't see these people at all.
- 7:50SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 7:51SPEAKER_04: So I I go over that.
- 7:52SPEAKER_04: The thing about rebates, all rebates apply.
- 7:54SPEAKER_04: You can't get all rebates.
- 7:56SPEAKER_04: I mean, uh there's a there's a system in there.
- 7:59SPEAKER_04: There's of course there's the four-square system where they they uh uh they teach the well they they try to uh catch you on a number of different things and whatever.
- 8:08SPEAKER_04: And I I go through the psychology.
- 8:10SPEAKER_04: I also go through uh the stories about being a car dealer, like my um my like my naked parts manager.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: Naked parts manager.
- 8:18SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:19SPEAKER_04: Right in John's alley.
- 8:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he was uh up in parts bin number 165 sending pictures of himself to uh to our customers.
- 8:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, uh little uh quali bear looking guy, and uh he didn't just shave his face.
- 8:32Jeff Dziekan: So um well, he was sending them every other week.
- 8:37SPEAKER_04: So this story is this and there's a quiz in there.
- 8:40SPEAKER_04: I try to make it uh lighthearted.
- 8:42SPEAKER_04: Here, here I'll I'll hold up a copy of my book.
- 8:44SPEAKER_04: There we go.
- 8:45SPEAKER_04: There we go.
- 8:46SPEAKER_04: This is like my high school graduation picture.
- 8:48SPEAKER_04: You see that?
- 8:48Don Armstrong: Yeah, yeah, don't be taken for a ride.
- 8:52SPEAKER_04: I don't look as well, I don't look that good.
- 8:54SPEAKER_04: And actually, when I give my lectures, I say that this proves that everybody exaggerates.
- 8:59SPEAKER_04: Look at that.
- 8:59SPEAKER_04: There you go.
- 9:00Don Armstrong: Well, you know, uh, I notice that you're wearing a hat, that's a good thing.
- 9:03Don Armstrong: Yeah, my Jeep hat jeep hat, yeah.
- 9:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'm driving a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 90,000 miles on it.
- 9:11SPEAKER_04: I could drive anything I want, but I'm driving that car.
- 9:13SPEAKER_04: You know what I like about the car?
- 9:14SPEAKER_04: Tell me freaking knobs, it's got knobs in it, knobs in it.
- 9:19SPEAKER_04: It doesn't, it doesn't it doesn't have a Sony television in it with the knobs.
- 9:24SPEAKER_04: I would yeah, I want to get air conditioning.
- 9:27Don Armstrong: Well, it's funny you should say that because I'm currently driving a car that doesn't have any knobs, and uh the only way that I can raise and lower the volume on the radio is on the left-hand side of the steering wheel.
- 9:39Don Armstrong: So not even my front passenger can lower it and raise the radio.
- 9:43Don Armstrong: I I don't understand who was thinking this out.
- 9:47Don Armstrong: There's no volume knob on the on the screen that somehow contains the radio, and I can't go from AM to FM.
- 9:56Don Armstrong: I haven't figured it out, and it's the same manufacturer that I've complained about their radio and infotainment system all these years and nothing has changed.
- 10:05Jeff Dziekan: I know which one he's talking about.
- 10:06Jeff Dziekan: I've got a question.
- 10:07Jeff Dziekan: You were you're a factory rep for Chrysler.
- 10:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 10:09Jeff Dziekan: What made you go with the Chrysler brand as a dealership with all the other brands out there?
- 10:13Jeff Dziekan: Was it just because you were married to it?
- 10:16SPEAKER_04: No, no, no, no.
- 10:17SPEAKER_04: They really now because your factory rep, I had God rest his soul, I had a regional manager said if one of my guys wants to go retail, I'm gonna help him.
- 10:26SPEAKER_04: So I took$80,000 out of my pocket and they lent me$215,000.
- 10:31SPEAKER_04: Okay, it was a little dealership in upstate New York.
- 10:33SPEAKER_04: I'm looking at it, I have an MBA in marketing, looking at this.
- 10:36SPEAKER_04: Holy cow, the potential is of this thing is really much more than the stated potential would be because their stated potential goes on the town that you live in.
- 10:46SPEAKER_04: But if you look at the highway, there's a 30,000 car a day highway that's going through one way and 10,000 the other.
- 10:53SPEAKER_04: And you look at this, you go, yeah, that'll do.
- 10:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we we we started selling cars like high cakes.
- 10:59SPEAKER_04: And the other thing is we had a competitive advantage.
- 11:01SPEAKER_04: Most of the dealers, the problem really is you have to excuse me for going so long or talking so much.
- 11:08SPEAKER_04: But here's the thing: the the big problem with the car dealers, with the car system all told, the sales system, is that all the dealers, all the new dealers are buying their cars from the factory for the same price.
- 11:19SPEAKER_04: There is no volume discount.
- 11:21SPEAKER_04: So if there's no volume discount, I got to come up with some competitive advantage, okay?
- 11:25SPEAKER_04: So, you know, tenth sales, this sales, you know, repo sales.
- 11:28SPEAKER_04: I can never understand like a repo sale.
- 11:31SPEAKER_04: I mean, isn't that like going to match.com and actually looking for somebody who's been in state prison?
- 11:36SPEAKER_04: I mean, yes.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: So what's wrong with that?
- 11:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know, or a tent sale if moving my cars two miles down the road made them cheaper and a tent sale.
- 11:47SPEAKER_04: If I moved them to Schenectady, they'd be half price, right?
- 11:50SPEAKER_04: I don't understand.
- 11:51SPEAKER_04: I mean, I just so there's there's all this nonsense, and I'm the no-nonsense car dealer.
- 11:57SPEAKER_04: So after a while, people would come in and buy cars from me, and then their kids would buy cars, and then the grandkids would buy cars, and God rest his soul.
- 12:07SPEAKER_04: There's a uh weathercaster here in uh in Rochester.
- 12:11SPEAKER_04: Uh, he passed away young, but he said, I buy my cars from Don because at least I know I'm not getting screwed.
- 12:19SPEAKER_04: Little did he know.
- 12:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know, so hey, by the way, uh, automotive history.
- 12:25SPEAKER_04: Uh uh God drove a Chrysler product.
- 12:28SPEAKER_04: Really?
- 12:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's right in the Bible.
- 12:30SPEAKER_04: He drove um Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden in a fury.
- 12:37Don Armstrong: Good one.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: I like it.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:39Don Armstrong: All right, so I want to talk about the book because the book is it's thin enough that I feel like I could actually get to the end of the book once I start reading it.
- 12:48Don Armstrong: So uh when did you write it and uh where can we buy it?
- 12:52SPEAKER_04: Well, you can get it on Amazon.
- 12:54SPEAKER_04: I think the the um the bookstores can carry it, but it's on Amazon now.
- 12:59SPEAKER_04: Now it's it's like 20 bucks, but I mean I'm gonna save you hundreds, if not thousands, believe it or not.
- 13:03SPEAKER_04: Or I'm gonna save you your sanity, so you're gonna sell you're gonna uh uh have less therapy later in your life.
- 13:09SPEAKER_04: Uh, but the thing is is that the the the uh digital edition is like three, four bucks or something like that.
- 13:15SPEAKER_04: I'm just trying to trying to save people.
- 13:17SPEAKER_04: The um it it is it is not just an instruction manual, it is I have stories in there.
- 13:23SPEAKER_04: Like I was almost fired at Chrysler when I was a young trainee for untrap unwrapping cheese balls.
- 13:30SPEAKER_04: I I agree with that.
- 13:31SPEAKER_04: Yes, unwrapping cheese balls.
- 13:34SPEAKER_04: Um, I was uh sent to set up a hospitality suite and the cheese balls, you know, the ones that are about the size of a softball.
- 13:40SPEAKER_04: Okay, I I unwrapped them and uh and my boss got really, really mad at me.
- 13:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, for unwrapping cheese balls.
- 13:47SPEAKER_04: Interesting.
- 13:47Don Armstrong: Well, I mean, that's not any worse than uh the guy that goes to buy a cookie at the vending machine over at Ford and gets fired because some some somebody didn't say, uh yeah, he did pay for that.
- 13:59Don Armstrong: He had to prove it.
- 14:00Don Armstrong: And then they offered him his job back, and he said, It's okay, I'm making more money where I am now.
- 14:05SPEAKER_04: Oh, I I I can tell you if you have if you have time, I I'll tell you a story about um about uh working at Chrysler.
- 14:13SPEAKER_04: And um if you're in in if you're staff, now after being a roadman, you get to be staff, which means you're in in office and whatever.
- 14:22SPEAKER_04: And um and uh when they came out with a rebate, they um uh you had to call dealers and find out what the dealers felt about the rebate and write the little you know story and it goes back to Detroit and whatever.
- 14:35SPEAKER_04: So um I did this once as a vignette, and it was uh my name was Scott Rhodes, who was in um in uh sh in uh Columbia, South Carolina, Chrysler Plymouth guy.
- 14:45SPEAKER_04: He goes, uh, well, you know, the uh I don't like the program all that much.
- 14:49SPEAKER_04: It didn't do this, and he didn't do that, and he did this other thing.
- 14:51SPEAKER_04: I said, So I write that down, I give it to my boss.
- 14:54SPEAKER_04: He looks at that, he goes, Oh, you can't you can't put that down.
- 14:58SPEAKER_04: I go, why?
- 14:58SPEAKER_04: That's what he said.
- 14:59SPEAKER_04: He goes, Wow, that's a negative.
- 15:01SPEAKER_04: I go, yeah, but that's what he said.
- 15:04SPEAKER_04: He goes, Well, you go get somebody else.
- 15:06SPEAKER_04: I says, so you really don't want to know.
- 15:08SPEAKER_04: This is like asking your wife how you were last night in bed, but you really don't want to know, right?
- 15:13SPEAKER_04: I mean, so that's crap.
- 15:15SPEAKER_04: Lied to me.
- 15:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:16SPEAKER_04: It's like, why, why am I doing this?
- 15:18SPEAKER_04: And and that's one of the frustrations I had.
- 15:21SPEAKER_04: Plus, you know, when you work for a big company, you know, if you have an innovative idea, that's not going to get you ahead.
- 15:27SPEAKER_04: Here in Rochester, I mean, think about it.
- 15:29SPEAKER_04: We had uh Kodak, and Kodak, Kodak thought their product was pictures on pieces of paper.
- 15:36SPEAKER_04: It is not, it was digital, it was imaging.
- 15:39SPEAKER_04: And they couldn't, and and eventually they went bankrupt because they didn't understand what their product was.
- 15:44SPEAKER_04: My product for my dealerships, I felt was handling your personal transportation needs.
- 15:49SPEAKER_04: Now, you know, sometimes I had to send you someplace else because we didn't make what you wanted.
- 15:54SPEAKER_04: Sometimes we had to pick you up at the airport or something.
- 15:56SPEAKER_04: Whatever it was, we just took care of people.
- 15:58SPEAKER_04: And and that, and that's truly that that's truly what made us successful.
- 16:03SPEAKER_04: I mean, they paid me like like the dealership I sold, the deal the dealership, they paid me a lot of money.
- 16:08SPEAKER_04: So I don't have to worry about anything.
- 16:10Don Armstrong: So what what are you doing today other than writing books?
- 16:14Don Armstrong: I got the radio show.
- 16:15SPEAKER_04: Well, I got the books, I got the radio show, uh, I got the website, don't be taken.
- 16:20SPEAKER_04: I invented a town.
- 16:21SPEAKER_04: Remember, do you remember Lake Wobe Gone?
- 16:23SPEAKER_04: Do you remember?
- 16:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:25SPEAKER_04: Okay, I actually had a conversation with Garrison Keeler because I had vented a town, and the town is um the town is called uh Middlefinger Lake.
- 16:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 16:37SPEAKER_04: So yeah, we uh up here in upstate New York, we had the Middle Finger Lake.
- 16:41SPEAKER_04: So this is the um this is uh the story of the Middle Finger Lake, uh Middle Thing Finger Lake, and uh it's where life is perfect, uh, but could always be better.
- 16:52SPEAKER_04: And then I invented an another uh organization here in uh which is the uh we we have the Bills Mafia, the the uh Buffalo Bills Mafia.
- 17:01SPEAKER_04: So I have the Rochester Music Mafia, and uh then with uh a woman who used to be the uh uh the dean of the School of Business at the Rochester Institute of Technology, I'm writing a book, it's like the three-day MBA, we call it.
- 17:16SPEAKER_04: That's the working title.
- 17:18SPEAKER_04: The stuff that you learn in college that you need to learn, and the stuff that you can't learn in college at all, uh, but you learn later on.
- 17:25SPEAKER_04: I'll give you my 7% rule.
- 17:26SPEAKER_04: Okay, you can take this to the bank because I have people that uh talk about the uh the percent all the time, um, but they don't um they don't argue with the concept.
- 17:35SPEAKER_04: That one when I was in my old wooden building back in 1994, uh, I'm worried about making everybody happy.
- 17:42SPEAKER_04: You know, it's just bothering.
- 17:44SPEAKER_04: And it finally dawned on me where I wouldn't lose any sleep.
- 17:47SPEAKER_04: And I'll I'll clean up the language for your show.

- 21:38Don Armstrong: Time now for Jeff's car culture, four-door mustangs.
- 21:41Don Armstrong: Uh-oh.
- 21:42Jeff Dziekan: Is it a station wagon?
- 21:43Jeff Dziekan: I don't know, but we talked about the Camaro last week when we did the feature there, and then you had mentioned, hey, is a Mustang coming up?
- 21:49Jeff Dziekan: Well, here we go.
- 21:50Jeff Dziekan: So the number four might be Ford's new favorite number.
- 21:53Jeff Dziekan: Uh at the dealership last week, uh, they they Ford showed uh at a dealer event last week, Ford showed.
- 22:00Jeff Dziekan: Showed an early prototype of the Mustangs, a Dan would have four doors.
- 22:03Jeff Dziekan: Hit 60 miles an hour in four seconds.
- 22:05Jeff Dziekan: It costs under$40,000, according to the reports of the Wall Street Journal they reported to.
- 22:10Jeff Dziekan: Though the name hasn't been confirmed, Ford reportedly calling it the Mach 4, which would align with the trademark filed in 2025.
- 22:18Jeff Dziekan: The Mustang's current lineup is fairly robust with three engine options and the choice of a manual or automatic transmission in most trims.
- 22:24Jeff Dziekan: However, the Mustang only comes in a two-door setup.
- 22:27Jeff Dziekan: Its biggest competitor, the Dodge Charger, is offered as a two or four-door model, though it offers fewer engine options and does not come with a stick shift.
- 22:36Jeff Dziekan: So poo-poo.
- 22:38Jeff Dziekan: Ford hasn't sold sedan since it discontinued the fusion after the 20-20 mile year.
- 22:43Jeff Dziekan: Since then, the company has focused on the SUVs and trucks, according to the CEO Jim Farley.
- 22:48Jeff Dziekan: He hinted that bringing back sedans for a while back in June.
- 22:52Jeff Dziekan: He talked about it before.
- 22:54Jeff Dziekan: The current president, uh Andrew Flick, president of the Ford Blue and Model E, said the sedan rival was possible, or revival was possible.
- 23:02Jeff Dziekan: Fricks uh said in a said a sedan would make the most sense and fit with the existing model, adding that they would consider expanding the Mustang family in the future.
- 23:12Jeff Dziekan: It looks like the future may be closer than anticipated, though there's still plenty of time for the project to get scrapped or altered.
- 23:19Jeff Dziekan: The reports say that the sedan is expected to go on sale in 28 or 29, 2028, 2029.
- 23:25Jeff Dziekan: Two sources said that the sedan would feature a hybrid powertrain, and one mentioned a hybrid V8 engine.
- 23:31Jeff Dziekan: Attendees at the dealer event said that the prototype was roughly the same size and shape as the Porsche Panamera.
- 23:38Jeff Dziekan: Oh, that's a little bit longer vehicle.
- 23:40Jeff Dziekan: And executives reportedly said it would have more rear leg room than the Panamera.
- 23:45Jeff Dziekan: Uh Mustang, uh the Mustang has been continuous production since it launched in 1964.
- 23:51Jeff Dziekan: We all know that, making it the longest running muscle car in production.
- 23:55Jeff Dziekan: Its closest competitor, the Chevrolet Camaro, has been discontinued, while the Dodge Challenger was also killed off, essentially replacing by the two-door charger.
- 24:05Jeff Dziekan: Chevrolet, however, is reportedly reviving the Camaro.
- 24:08Jeff Dziekan: We talked about that as a four-door, which was rumored to go on sale in 29, so they're all kind of being competitive in the years of release.
- 24:14Jeff Dziekan: The Mustang expected release date would put it either ahead or in line with Chevy's debut.
- 24:19Jeff Dziekan: The sub-40,000 starting price would put it on more of an affordable side of the Mustang lineup with the V8 horsepower.
- 24:27Jeff Dziekan: They would likely be priced closer and in line with the V8 powered Mustang GT, which starts at just under 50k and the current Mustang's trim level lineup.
- 24:36Jeff Dziekan: Powertrain menu could uh mirror the Mustang, including the Turbocharged 2.3 liter Eco Boost 4 cylinder and the naturally aspirated 5-liter Coyote V8, with room for a high output version.
- 24:49Jeff Dziekan: So yeah, tub it.
- 24:51Jeff Dziekan: Uh the bigger draw is the V8, which would be paired with the manual gearbox and genuine selling point of for the enthusiasts of that vehicle.
- 25:00Jeff Dziekan: Ford is not uh committed to a debut date for the Mach 4, but production should start sometime between 28-29.
- 25:06Jeff Dziekan: With any luck, the company would give us uh something to chew on.
- 25:10Jeff Dziekan: Early teasers and spy shots, that's all going to be available as they're released.
- 25:15Jeff Dziekan: So there you go.
- 25:16Jeff Dziekan: Who's next?
- 25:17Jeff Dziekan: That's what I got to say.
- 25:18Don Armstrong: Exactly.
- 25:18Don Armstrong: All right, uh time now for Mars Driving Destinations, and it's titled Summer.
- 25:25Mike Marrs: Trying to make uh everybody's trying to make sure summer lasts a little bit longer because the Well, it's it's still summer, but the school's back and that's screwed everything up.
- 25:34Mike Marrs: Exactly, exactly.
- 25:36Mike Marrs: So you got to kind of look for something that's gonna kind of extend the summer feeling that's going on.
- 25:40Mike Marrs: Um, and one of those things is the Armand, if I'm saying that correctly, Bayou Nature Center down in Pasadena.
- 25:48Mike Marrs: Now the idea.
- 25:49Don Armstrong: Let's pass a get down, Dina, to everybody else.
- 25:52Mike Marrs: Exactly.
- 25:53Mike Marrs: Now, this one uh again, this is Pasadena.
- 25:56Mike Marrs: It's basically all part of the Houston Metroplex.
- 25:58Mike Marrs: So you're getting out without getting out.
- 26:02Mike Marrs: And uh because there's plenty of wetlands down here, there's some prairie, there's forests along the bayou.
- 26:07Mike Marrs: Yeah, families can hike the trails, you can look for wildlife birds, got some educational programs that you can actually get involved with, and it gives a good contrast to going to an amusement park or video games or whatever else on a weekend.
- 26:21Mike Marrs: And uh, but the only thing you gotta do is be sure to bring some water and some insect repellent to this time of year.
- 26:26Mike Marrs: It's plenty hot out there and humid, and there's lots of little insects around there.
- 26:31Mike Marrs: The second one, everybody's heard about it, but I don't think about it very often, and that's the Houston Space Center down in Clear Lake.
- 26:39Mike Marrs: Now, the kids can actually you can take the kids down here, and there's a lot of interactive things uh for the whole family, actually.
- 26:46Mike Marrs: And it gives the kids and the adults something that they can do to get involved with, see the spacecraft, the astronaut history, a lot of hands-on visits and the tram uh that tour that takes you around.
- 26:58Mike Marrs: So you can kind of get the kids involved and start getting excited, maybe about going back to school, about learning some things at the same time.
- 27:05Mike Marrs: Get to go down and explore some of the things in the the science world that's uh history making, actually.
- 27:12Jeff Dziekan: Real quick, Mike, while Kathy and I were there not very long ago, and those trams, there's different levels you can tour different things of the uh complex or the compound with different trams, they go different directions.
- 27:22Jeff Dziekan: But yes, kid-oriented, kid friendly.
- 27:24Jeff Dziekan: I was even impressed.
- 27:25Jeff Dziekan: Uh, I tried to join the astronaut team and they told me no.
- 27:28Mike Marrs: Well, I think it was probably because of uh the glasses, I guess.
- 27:34Mike Marrs: I wasn't tall enough or something, yeah.
- 27:35Mike Marrs: Yeah, something like that.
- 27:36Mike Marrs: I haven't been there in years, and and after I looked at this, I thought this would be pretty cool to collect it.
- 27:40Jeff Dziekan: You should do it.
- 27:41Mike Marrs: Uh, the next one would be the Baytown Family Adventure.
- 27:44Mike Marrs: Now, this is actually uh a place to go exploring for the kids to get involved in exploring because it's a geo tour with across the wetlands, and it's down in Baytown, it's a little bit further away, maybe for some people, but you can also you can go in here and they've got the wetland center, which is actually the Eddie V Gray Wetland Center, where you can see the well wildlife and you can kind of get involved and learn some more about the Baytown Nature Center from there, and the history, the nature, and the actual going out and exploring things is what gets you involved in all this, and so it becomes part of a destination that you can go to and be involved in that destination.
- 28:26Mike Marrs: Again, learning, trying to get the kids back to school, but it's a family event, family fun event.
- 28:32Mike Marrs: Then we're gonna buzz up to Lake Conroe.
- 28:34Mike Marrs: You want to go out on the lake?
- 28:36Mike Marrs: There you go.
- 28:36Mike Marrs: It beats going to the beach sometimes where you go get into the sand.
- 28:39Mike Marrs: But let's suppose you don't have a boat.
- 28:41Mike Marrs: You can actually go to Lake Conroe and go up there for the day, and there are facilities up there that you can rent a boat.
- 28:47Mike Marrs: You can rent the water gear to go out play on God help us all.
- 28:51Mike Marrs: Exactly.
- 28:53Mike Marrs: So the family can go up there, go boating, they've got camping up there, of course, around the edge of it.
- 28:58Mike Marrs: You've got a lot of restaurants and things, but again, it's basically boating, tubing, fishing, and swimming for the family.
- 29:04Mike Marrs: And uh again, if you don't have a boat, you don't want to haul your boat, you can take it.
- 29:08Mike Marrs: And uh the last thing we wanted to do was Columbus.
- 29:11Mike Marrs: Columbus is a couple hours away from it's a place you go through.
- 29:16Mike Marrs: I always go through there going wherever we're going.
- 29:18Mike Marrs: But there's a lot of things there, including the Colorado River runs through there.
- 29:23Mike Marrs: So there's parks, there's museums, a few quirky attractions to get around downtown.
- 29:28Mike Marrs: And you can actually spend the day there.
- 29:31Mike Marrs: Basically, like a little small Fredericksburg or or someplace that's not quite as crowded, and quite as so many people, but there's plenty of things to go and see and spend the day here without going off into another part of the world.
- 29:42Mike Marrs: It takes you all day just to get there.
- 29:44Mike Marrs: So that's just a few things you might do to kind of extend the feeling that you're still in the summer vacation.
- 29:51Mike Marrs: Without going too far.
- 29:57Jeff Dziekan: I like the NASA one.
- 29:58Don Armstrong: All right, thank you, sir.
- 29:59Don Armstrong: In real time car talk continues after this quick break.
- 30:06Don Armstrong: The Texas Max dining experience is defined by Loopy Tortilla, your destination for Texas's best beef fajitas and frozen margaritas.
- 30:15Don Armstrong: Since 1983, Lupi Tortilla has served authentic and time-tested recipes made with the freshest ingredients.

- 30:34Don Armstrong: Start your loopy experience with queso flammiato and guacamole, along with a clastic frozen margarita.
- 30:39Don Armstrong: Dine on famous loopy beef and chicken fajitas or pepper shrimp crochet, or a finished or vegetarian entrep, and finish with a scrumptious flan for dessert.
- 30:48Don Armstrong: Find loopy tortilla in Houston, College Station, Beaumont, Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas, Fort Worth.
- 30:53Don Armstrong: There's a Texas location near you.
- 30:55Don Armstrong: The recipes are authentic and time-tested.
- 30:58Don Armstrong: The ingredients always fresh.
- 31:00Don Armstrong: Loopy tortilla.
- 31:01Don Armstrong: Eat pretty good.
