Latest / The Daily Sarcast / September 30th, 2026: The Iced Coffee Controversy, A Skydiver Saves The Day And Naveen's Life Update
Transcript
- 0:00Today's podcast is brought to you by those TV shows that you watch when you're
- 0:04doing other things. You know, the ones.
- 0:06Sometimes there's detectives in them. Maybe they're in Miami.
- 0:10And they're solving cases. You think maybe it's doctors or something and one
- 0:14of them is sad all the time.
- 0:15Those TV shows that you watch while you're folding laundry. They're there.
- 0:20And you get your folded laundry.
- 0:22Oh wait, they're a doctor and a detective? Wait, okay, that makes more sense.
- 0:28When you show up with an iced coffee or an iced latte, it says that this interview
- 0:32is just a stop on your list of errands for the day.
- 0:35That's Caitlin Whitehand, a recruiter who unwittingly set off a week of online
- 0:40discourse about whether people who bring some cold caffeine to a job interview deserve work.
- 0:45So let me just take a drink and insert theme song here.
- 0:51This is the Daily Sarcast. I give you the news and maybe you'll laugh.
- 0:54I'm Naveen Vambar and today is September 30th. 2026.
- 0:58I'm one of Lindsay's improv class friends. I've done an episode before and I
- 1:01was just so sad that I missed this on a residency that I pushed her down a ladder
- 1:05so I could take all the glory for myself again.
- 1:07In real news, of all the states, it's Florida that's actually going to apply some regulations.
- 1:13Florida has taken open AI to court to stop them building their models until
- 1:17they can explain how they're keeping families safe.
- 1:19Florida Attorney General James
- 1:21Altmyer said on X, stop pretending it's human. Stop selling it to kids.
- 1:25Obviously, this is just the start, but at least he's not pretending that all
- 1:29these companies are doing something that already doesn't have regulations that apply to them.
- 1:33This is also something that Lena Kahn, former FTC commissioner, said also on X.
- 1:38Law enforcers already have the authority to charge companies and their CEOs
- 1:42for creating and releasing dangerous, unvetted, or defective products.
- 1:46All I can say is, finally, I have a lot of feelings about AI,
- 1:50but it's a thing that should be able to break the law because people at the
- 1:53top are super rich? It is not one of them.
- 1:57Honestly, though, I'm surprised that posting these things on X didn't drive
- 2:00Grok to go completely feral.
- 2:02I mean, OpenAI just has the whole crime of breaking into another company's databases
- 2:07because someone forgot to say, but do it out without criminal trespass at the
- 2:11end of their search for a cookie recipe.
- 2:14But Grok's got some serious felony time in the future.
- 2:17I would have thought it would have gone down like a bank robber cornered at
- 2:20the end of the movie, screaming at the cops how he isn't going to be taken alive.
- 2:24In East Troy, Wisconsin, a plane crashed into a cornfield, which was witnessed
- 2:29by another plane that was carrying skydivers who called it in to the police.
- 2:34But some of those divers were EMTs, so they jumped out of the plane and went
- 2:38to the crash plane and helped out the survivors.
- 2:41In the end, everybody who was on the crash plane survived, with just a few of
- 2:45them going to the hospital.
- 2:46This is a feel-good version of the story of the old woman swallowing the fly.
- 2:51One thing after another, but each thing gets better and better and better.
- 2:54I'm just waiting for the follow-up next year, when one of the EMTs and one of
- 2:57the passengers have fallen in love, and they're getting married and going to
- 3:00live happily ever after.
- 3:02And lastly, New York City has arrested the mole people.
- 3:06In May, three people are spotted in Queens going into manholes.
- 3:09Three random guys walking around in a strange suit open the sewer and go in
- 3:13like ninja turtles, an observer said.
- 3:16But a few days ago, police arrested Kevin Rodriguez and Samuel Reveron,
- 3:20both 25, for the crime of going underground, I guess.
- 3:25They suspected the mole people were diving into the sewer for valuables.
- 3:28They were caught after the trio were witnessed going into a sewer near the UN General Assembly.
- 3:34Which leads me directly into a Naveen's life update and a request.
- 3:38Kevin, Samuel, if you found a pair of wireframe glasses in your sewer diving,
- 3:42I'd really like them back.
- 3:44On my first date with my partner, I watched my Warby slip out of the car and
- 3:47straight down into the sewer.
- 3:49Perfect swoosh, no net, just didn't hit anything. I really like that pair.
- 3:54I got actual compliments on it.
- 3:56So please, at least, if you don't return them, put them to good use.
- 4:01Someone deserves a swag.
- 4:03But this isn't the first time I've lost things like this. I've dropped a pair
- 4:06of sunglasses between the train and the tracks, hopping onto the subway.
- 4:09Dropped my house keys down an elevator shaft. I feel like all of these require
- 4:13some sort of skill, but I haven't figured out how to make money out of dropping
- 4:17my own valuables down narrow holes.
- 4:19But, you know, hey, the date went well. We're still together,
- 4:23despite the fact that I had to wear prescription sunglasses in the bar for at least half of it.
- 4:28Things I've been thinking about. It's been a year since I've moved to New York,
- 4:31and I'm really loving it.
- 4:34I know I have to earn being called a New Yorker, but I've had a few key experiences.
- 4:38I've sighted celebrities. I've been stroking a bridge on the subway for 30 minutes.
- 4:43Been to a dank warehouse basement for a show in Brooklyn.
- 4:46I also sat outside a bar and screaming alongside everyone cheering for the Knicks,
- 4:50which felt really special.
- 4:51So, to all the folks who have made this place friendly and home to me in this
- 4:55last year, thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 4:57That's what I've been thinking about. Remember, this is The Daily Sarcast.
- 5:01I'm Naveen, and you can find me at Naveen Vembar on Instagram.
- 5:05Tune in tomorrow for another episode of The Daily Sarcast.
