- 0:05Speaker 1: Apoche production Growing Glows Twelve Days of Christmas. Good morning,
- 0:15Speaker 1: good afternoon. Wherever you are in the world, welcome back
- 0:18Speaker 1: to Grow and Glow another day of the twelve Days
- 0:20Speaker 1: of Christmas. If you're new here, we're literally doing twelve
- 0:24Speaker 1: days in a row. So many epic conversations, so many
- 0:27Speaker 1: really cool guests, and obviously a couple of solo episodes
- 0:30Speaker 1: with MOI me. Today I'm doing an episode. This was
- 0:34Speaker 1: a request in our Facebook forum. I did a post
- 0:38Speaker 1: asking what you guys would like me to cover, and
- 0:40Speaker 1: a lot of suggestions even came through my inbox. Was
- 0:42Speaker 1: around my journey with food, the relationship I have with food,
- 0:47Speaker 1: how I used to eat to how I'm eating now,
- 0:49Speaker 1: what I've learned along the way. So that's what we're
- 0:51Speaker 1: going to do. I'm going to go over my whole
- 0:53Speaker 1: journey from when I was baby to how now I'm
- 0:56Speaker 1: eating now, and how I'm eating now feels so damn good.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I've never felt better or healthier with the way that
- 1:03Speaker 1: I'm eating right now. Excited to talk about that, but
- 1:06Speaker 1: let's rewind it back to when I was a baby.
- 1:09Speaker 1: When I was in hospital as a baby, I actually
- 1:11Speaker 1: got selmonella from a nurse that did not wash her hands.
- 1:15Speaker 1: So I was violently ill, like so sick to the
- 1:18Speaker 1: point where the doctors said to my mum, she's not
- 1:21Speaker 1: gonna make her overnight. You need to get all of
- 1:23Speaker 1: your family here to say the goodbyes. I'm still here,
- 1:27Speaker 1: a miracle. But yeah, I was really really sick as
- 1:29Speaker 1: a baby. Then as I started to grow up, I
- 1:33Speaker 1: really just was not interested in food. And I think
- 1:35Speaker 1: this might have been just trauma from being so sick.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I was also allergic to my mum's breast milk. I
- 1:40Speaker 1: couldn't have any dairy. I think my mom put me
- 1:43Speaker 1: on soy milks to be honest. But yeah, when I
- 1:45Speaker 1: grew up, I just really wasn't interested in food. I
- 1:47Speaker 1: was that kid that just wanted like chicken nuggets and
- 1:50Speaker 1: an orange juice. If I could live off liquids, I
- 1:52Speaker 1: probably would have. I didn't like any textures. I didn't
- 1:55Speaker 1: like trying anything new. I didn't like anything spicy. I
- 1:58Speaker 1: was the fussiest eater. Going into my teenage years, I
- 2:03Speaker 1: went through a lot of phases of trying so many
- 2:05Speaker 1: diets and starving myself and being addicted to junk food.
- 2:09Speaker 1: And I think because I worked since I was really young,
- 2:11Speaker 1: I always had my money, so I felt like I
- 2:14Speaker 1: didn't have to be restricted with what I had to eat,
- 2:16Speaker 1: because even at home, like for example, my stepdad used
- 2:19Speaker 1: to buy like Whittaker's chocolate and these sour gummy bears,
- 2:23Speaker 1: which I love sour gummy bears. I love lollies, but
- 2:26Speaker 1: we weren't allowed touch them. And same with orange juice.
- 2:28Speaker 1: He would literally put a label on the juice and
- 2:30Speaker 1: be like, do not touch. So once I started earning
- 2:32Speaker 1: my own money, like I went crazy on orange juice,
- 2:35Speaker 1: crazy on lollies, on chocolate, like anything that I wasn't
- 2:37Speaker 1: allowed at home, I went nuts on. I felt like
- 2:39Speaker 1: I went through this really big junk food stage. And
- 2:43Speaker 1: then when I moved out of home, I also felt
- 2:46Speaker 1: like that kind of continued on because I just felt
- 2:48Speaker 1: this new sense of freedom of like I can eat
- 2:50Speaker 1: whatever but the fuck I want, and no one's gonna
- 2:52Speaker 1: make me eat anything or do anything. Rewind, when I
- 2:55Speaker 1: was at home, I felt like my relationship with food
- 2:59Speaker 1: wasn't the greatest. And not that I want to put
- 3:01Speaker 1: all the blame of my stepdad, but he definitely played
- 3:04Speaker 1: his role. So for example, I really don't like mushrooms.
- 3:08Speaker 1: He would put a lot of mushrooms on my plate,
- 3:11Speaker 1: and I was not allowed to leave the table until
- 3:13Speaker 1: I ate every single mushroom. Some nights I would be
- 3:16Speaker 1: there for hours. Other nights he would like send me
- 3:18Speaker 1: to my room with a smack of my bum or
- 3:20Speaker 1: like yell at me lock memo room. Like I would
- 3:23Speaker 1: be punished if I did not eat everything in my plate,
- 3:25Speaker 1: because there was children in Africa starving a food, and
- 3:28Speaker 1: I need to be grateful for the food that I've got.
- 3:30Speaker 1: He used to do it to my little brother too.
- 3:31Speaker 1: He didn't like tomatoes, so he would pile on tomatoes
- 3:34Speaker 1: my brother's plates. And there were just meals that I
- 3:36Speaker 1: didn't like, like kidneys and rice and stuff. And oh.
- 3:39Speaker 1: So what I started to do is I obviously had
- 3:42Speaker 1: to consume the food because I was going to get
- 3:44Speaker 1: in trouble. If I didn't, I'd be really scared. I
- 3:46Speaker 1: would then go to the shower and make myself vomit.
- 3:49Speaker 1: This became a part of my every day, and it
- 3:53Speaker 1: wasn't even from the sense of all I wanted to
- 3:55Speaker 1: lose weight or be skinny or anything like that. It
- 3:58Speaker 1: was more about gaining control. I felt like he'd forced
- 4:03Speaker 1: me to have this food. But once I got out
- 4:05Speaker 1: of my body, I was like, you no longer have
- 4:07Speaker 1: control over me. So I felt this sense of like lightness,
- 4:11Speaker 1: but not in a physical sense more and of just
- 4:14Speaker 1: like you're not going to control me. You're not going
- 4:16Speaker 1: to do that to me, And it was crazy. I
- 4:18Speaker 1: did that for a couple of years and then he
- 4:19Speaker 1: kicked me out of home when I was sixteen, and
- 4:21Speaker 1: I went straight to my boyfriend's parents' house and I
- 4:23Speaker 1: moved him with them, literally rocked up with my suitcases.
- 4:27Speaker 1: And the first day that I moved him from there
- 4:30Speaker 1: was the last day that I vomited my food. Once
- 4:33Speaker 1: I was out of the environment of the pressure around food,
- 4:37Speaker 1: I started to build a healthier relationship with food. I
- 4:41Speaker 1: still really didn't have any idea on nutrients and what
- 4:44Speaker 1: was good for me and what was not. I was
- 4:46Speaker 1: working at a gym when I turned I think I
- 4:48Speaker 1: was seventeen. I was working at the reception gym, and
- 4:51Speaker 1: the personal trainers there were like kind of in the
- 4:53Speaker 1: mindset of like you can eat takeout, just burn it
- 4:56Speaker 1: off at the gym. So I would literally would have
- 4:58Speaker 1: CAFC across the road I would eat KFC and then
- 5:01Speaker 1: try and smash myself on the gym for hours afterwards.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Like that's how unh healthy my relationship with exercise and
- 5:08Speaker 1: food was, and just I suppose lack of education. Gosh,
- 5:11Speaker 1: this is going like back fifteen years ago. There was
- 5:14Speaker 1: a period there and it was just before I met Steve.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I used to do these bikini modeling competitions at nightclubs
- 5:20Speaker 1: and bars, and it sounds awful, but I knew that
- 5:24Speaker 1: I wasn't the prettiest girl ever, so I felt like
- 5:27Speaker 1: I had to rely on having a slim toned figure
- 5:31Speaker 1: and also having stage presents to help me win, like
- 5:34Speaker 1: I could do the splits and I'd take out glitter
- 5:36Speaker 1: and blow on stage. Yeah, I didn't think I was
- 5:38Speaker 1: the prettiest on there, so I really felt like I
- 5:40Speaker 1: had to work on my body in beers skinny as
- 5:42Speaker 1: I could be, so in my comp seasons. At the
- 5:45Speaker 1: very start, like just before I met Steve, I was
- 5:47Speaker 1: definitely not eating enough and eating off like apples and
- 5:51Speaker 1: tuna and crackers, and I didn't have much money either,
- 5:54Speaker 1: so yeah, it wasn't really healthy. But then once I
- 5:57Speaker 1: started to learn more about how to eat healthy that's
- 6:01Speaker 1: my relationship really developed nicely. And then I met Steve,
- 6:05Speaker 1: and that's when I feel like my health journey really
- 6:08Speaker 1: kicked off and started. And he could see all of
- 6:11Speaker 1: my bad food habits and the relationship a hab with food,
- 6:15Speaker 1: what I thought was healthy compared to what wasn't and
- 6:18Speaker 1: he just started slowly introducing different meals to me that
- 6:21Speaker 1: I really enjoyed, Like I never had a protein smoothie,
- 6:24Speaker 1: and he made me this like protein smoothie. I think
- 6:26Speaker 1: it was like oats berry chocolate, protein powder and almor milk.
- 6:30Speaker 1: It might even just be water. And I was like,
- 6:32Speaker 1: this is so young, and that became my staple breakfast
- 6:35Speaker 1: for years to come. And that's obviously when my love
- 6:38Speaker 1: of smoothie started to, you know develop. And Levi was
- 6:41Speaker 1: his business planner at the time, and then all three
- 6:43Speaker 1: of us started the Ashybiydness Pickinnibody Challenge, and Levi is
- 6:46Speaker 1: a natchpath and nutritionist, and I felt like I learned
- 6:50Speaker 1: so much within the space of a couple of months
- 6:52Speaker 1: of just being under his wing. He really taught me
- 6:55Speaker 1: about not even like counting macros, but just making sure
- 6:57Speaker 1: that I was consuming healthy fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. He
- 7:01Speaker 1: really tried to make me focus on whole foods and
- 7:04Speaker 1: cleaner option things with less chemicals, less artificial sweetness, less ingredients,
- 7:10Speaker 1: just like a wholesome healthy diet with lots of rainbow
- 7:14Speaker 1: fruits and vegetables, lean quality meats. I suppose more of
- 7:18Speaker 1: like an eighty twenty way of living. And I felt
- 7:21Speaker 1: so good, so fast. Within a couple of months of
- 7:24Speaker 1: kind of adapting what Levi and Steve had taught me,
- 7:26Speaker 1: I felt so much better. I lost a ton of weight. Yeah,
- 7:29Speaker 1: I just felt really really good. Now throughout that time,
- 7:33Speaker 1: I feel like I've still been on different journeys with
- 7:35Speaker 1: my food. I felt like when I came off the
- 7:37Speaker 1: pill at I think I was about twenty three years old,
- 7:41Speaker 1: my skin went absolutely crazy. And I went on a
- 7:45Speaker 1: bit of a gut cleanse with Levi where I did
- 7:47Speaker 1: cut out like gluten and dairy, started getting acupuncture, and
- 7:51Speaker 1: I felt like I had to be a little bit
- 7:52Speaker 1: more restrictive to try and figure out what my body
- 7:55Speaker 1: was tolerating, what made it feel good, where my skin reacted.
- 7:59Speaker 1: And I learned a lot in that process as well,
- 8:01Speaker 1: and that's when I really adapted more of a paleo
- 8:03Speaker 1: way of living and once again less process. But there
- 8:08Speaker 1: also wasn't a lot of dairy and that or anything.
- 8:11Speaker 1: But I really found that just focusing on a high
- 8:13Speaker 1: protein diet gave me way more energy, made me feel
- 8:16Speaker 1: fuller and more satisfied. My skin cleared up, and I
- 8:20Speaker 1: just felt it was really easy to maintain. I never
- 8:24Speaker 1: really got into like say kido. I tried to be
- 8:29Speaker 1: a vegan for I think maybe two months slash vegetarian,
- 8:33Speaker 1: but tried to do veganism because there was just so
- 8:35Speaker 1: much hype around it back then. This is literally probably
- 8:38Speaker 1: like twelve years ago. But I have never felt worse.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I felt so blow to my digestive system, my energy,
- 8:45Speaker 1: my skin went bad again. I hated it. As soon
- 8:48Speaker 1: as I started eating more animal products again, I felt
- 8:51Speaker 1: so much better. So I just think for my body,
- 8:54Speaker 1: a high protein animal based diet works so well. So
- 8:59Speaker 1: I went to Europe recently with Tajiboy, and over in
- 9:02Speaker 1: Europe we ate copious amounts of pasta, pizza and ice cream.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I enjoyed it. I think we do better pizzas in
- 9:10Speaker 1: Australia if I'm being honest, but their pastor was pretty nice.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I found it really hard to get any serving of
- 9:15Speaker 1: vegetable at any restaurant. One of the locations where the
- 9:19Speaker 1: wedding was. I did get a steak each night, but
- 9:22Speaker 1: our yeah I diet was a lot of sugar, hot chocolate.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Tarji is quite fussy, so he had a lot of
- 9:26Speaker 1: cross ons for breakfast. It was hard to even find
- 9:29Speaker 1: like eggs, you know, anywhere. Really, I didn't feel very
- 9:32Speaker 1: healthy over there, but we just enjoyed it and dropped
- 9:34Speaker 1: in and you know, ate whatever, and we enjoyed the
- 9:36Speaker 1: ice cream, and whenever Taji wanted to try something new,
- 9:39Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, let's do it. But when I
- 9:41Speaker 1: came back, and I also gone to Bali with Mum
- 9:44Speaker 1: before that too, and in Bali I had a steak
- 9:48Speaker 1: that literally changed my life. I got it from this
- 9:51Speaker 1: restaurant called Grumpy Cow. It was like a striploin wagu deliciousness.
- 9:58Speaker 1: And since then I have just wanted so much steak.
- 10:01Speaker 1: But it was after my surgery and after I got
- 10:05Speaker 1: back from Europe that I just had this intuitive feeling
- 10:09Speaker 1: and like craving and desire to eat more steak and
- 10:12Speaker 1: I went nuts on it and I still am on
- 10:15Speaker 1: that train. I have steak every single day, if not
- 10:18Speaker 1: twice a day, and I absolutely love it. I've never
- 10:21Speaker 1: felt better. And this kind of led me into looking
- 10:24Speaker 1: into back into the paleo way of eating, because over
- 10:28Speaker 1: the years, I felt like I've been, like I say,
- 10:30Speaker 1: eighty twenty, I feel like I've been more seventy thirty,
- 10:33Speaker 1: just intuitive eating and no restrictions. I thought I knew
- 10:38Speaker 1: what foods would make me feel pretty good. I feel
- 10:40Speaker 1: like I've got a really good gut foundation, so not
- 10:42Speaker 1: many things upset my stomach. I don't get very bloated
- 10:44Speaker 1: or anything. However, I definitely felt a bit brain foggy.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I still recovering from surgery, and intuitively, I just felt
- 10:52Speaker 1: like I needed a lot more protein and a lot
- 10:54Speaker 1: more red meat. And then I'll go into why I
- 10:56Speaker 1: think my body was telling me that. And that's when
- 10:58Speaker 1: the animal diet started to kind of pop up into
- 11:01Speaker 1: my algorithm on TikTok, and I started doing a lot
- 11:03Speaker 1: of research and Steve and I were looking at it,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and we were also looking into just different things that
- 11:08Speaker 1: we wanted to improve on, and one of the examples
- 11:10Speaker 1: was seed oils and how much seed oils is in
- 11:13Speaker 1: so much of our food and seed oils are so
- 11:16Speaker 1: inflammatory to the body, regardless if you've had surgery and not. Like,
- 11:19Speaker 1: getting your information down it should always be a priority,
- 11:22Speaker 1: especially for us women as well. If you've got information
- 11:24Speaker 1: in your body, it's really going to affect your cycle,
- 11:27Speaker 1: your skin, your moods, your sleep, like literally everything. So
- 11:30Speaker 1: I'm always about getting my information down. So, yeah, I
- 11:32Speaker 1: started do a lot of research and the seed oils
- 11:35Speaker 1: was a huge thing, and we started to look into
- 11:37Speaker 1: better ways to cook our food, so that was cooking
- 11:40Speaker 1: with ghee and cooking with beef tallow and yeah, the
- 11:44Speaker 1: animal diet is really interesting. It's basically meat, organic meat,
- 11:48Speaker 1: particularly red meat, bone broth, organs, which I know sounds
- 11:53Speaker 1: absolutely disgusting. I can't eat organs. I actually take them
- 11:56Speaker 1: in a capsule format. Now, eggs, raw dairy, so raw
- 12:00Speaker 1: cheese and raw milk, and fruit, a lot of fruits, vegetables.
- 12:06Speaker 1: But in the animal diet, like a lot of people
- 12:08Speaker 1: that are experts in this, they say that we can
- 12:10Speaker 1: get most about nutrients, fiber, minerals and health benefits mainly
- 12:14Speaker 1: from fruit, so you don't really necessarily need a lot
- 12:17Speaker 1: of the vegetables. I still eat vegetables, and there's some
- 12:20Speaker 1: that they say to eat, but definitely make sure you
- 12:22Speaker 1: are getting all organic. And I suppose just looking at
- 12:25Speaker 1: your food, at what nutrients they do hold and where
- 12:27Speaker 1: you can get them from, and eating what you enjoy.
- 12:30Speaker 1: I personally enjoy eating a lot more fruit than what
- 12:32Speaker 1: I do vegetables. I still love my sweet tato, I
- 12:34Speaker 1: still love carrot, I love beans like I do love
- 12:37Speaker 1: some vegetables, but I have been eating a lot more fruit. Yeah,
- 12:41Speaker 1: so eggs, red meat, fruit, honey. And then I'm not
- 12:45Speaker 1: fully strict animal diet. There are other things that I
- 12:48Speaker 1: still incorporate into my diet, like clean trets, because I
- 12:50Speaker 1: will never not eat clean trees, and even though they're
- 12:53Speaker 1: full of healthy fats, maybe coconut oil protein powder. I
- 12:56Speaker 1: just find it's such an easy way to get a
- 12:58Speaker 1: decent serving of protein into a smoothie in the morning.
- 13:02Speaker 1: And if I'm ever craving sweet or I'm struggling to
- 13:04Speaker 1: get enough protein into my day, I'll just have a
- 13:06Speaker 1: protein shake. And then, of course when I go out
- 13:09Speaker 1: for date nights or I take taj to Yochea, like,
- 13:11Speaker 1: I still enjoy treats, but majority of my diet is
- 13:15Speaker 1: red meat, eggs, raw dairy. I don't drink raw milk.
- 13:19Speaker 1: I can't bring myself to do it. But I love cheese,
- 13:22Speaker 1: a lot of fruit, And I tell you what, my
- 13:24Speaker 1: digestive system has never been better. It wasn't even bad before,
- 13:28Speaker 1: but it's so much better now. My skin is consistently clear.
- 13:32Speaker 1: I feel I'm sleeping better, my energy is better. I
- 13:35Speaker 1: just all around feel less inflamed and healthier. Like I
- 13:40Speaker 1: really feel healthier. I feel like my sex drive has
- 13:43Speaker 1: gone up. Same with Steve, like he feels all those
- 13:45Speaker 1: benefits as well. And we've got our kids just eating
- 13:48Speaker 1: a lot more protein and a lot more fruits, and
- 13:51Speaker 1: it just feels really good. So obviously there is no bread,
- 13:54Speaker 1: rice or pasta. I'm not a massive bread person. I
- 13:57Speaker 1: was eating a lot of pasta. I thought I'd missed that,
- 14:00Speaker 1: but I don't. I just feel really good of not
- 14:02Speaker 1: having it. And we had some bit of ball and
- 14:03Speaker 1: asy the other night, but you know what, I didn't
- 14:04Speaker 1: need the past or. I just had like so much
- 14:07Speaker 1: more meat and cheese and it was just as satisfying.
- 14:09Speaker 1: And now when I'm talking about this, I'm not saying
- 14:11Speaker 1: that you should go and follow and do what I'm doing.
- 14:13Speaker 1: This episode is literally just me talking about my food journey,
- 14:17Speaker 1: and That's where I'm kind of at right now. I'm
- 14:19Speaker 1: really loving how I'm feeling, and the older I get,
- 14:22Speaker 1: it is less about what I look like and it's
- 14:25Speaker 1: more about how I feel and the energy that food
- 14:28Speaker 1: gives me. As you guys know, I had brain surgery
- 14:30Speaker 1: a couple of months ago, and I have another one
- 14:32Speaker 1: at the end of January to fix my other aneurism.
- 14:34Speaker 1: So when you're on blood thinners, if you've missed the
- 14:36Speaker 1: previous episodes, your periods are on another level, like Holy Moley,
- 14:43Speaker 1: like literal crime scene. Like I can't leave the house
- 14:47Speaker 1: for a full day, sometimes two days because they are
- 14:50Speaker 1: so heavy. I'm now down to one lot of blood thinners,
- 14:54Speaker 1: which will increase again when I have my next surgery.
- 14:56Speaker 1: But I think my body like knew what was coming
- 14:59Speaker 1: and that's why I needed so much more iron. So
- 15:02Speaker 1: I think the amount of steak I'm eating is really
- 15:04Speaker 1: so porting my cycle at the moment, and I would
- 15:07Speaker 1: hate to think how low my energy would be if
- 15:11Speaker 1: I wasn't consuming the red meat IM eating and getting
- 15:13Speaker 1: that iron. So even in my period, like I definitely
- 15:16Speaker 1: get a little bit tired a few days before and
- 15:18Speaker 1: feel a bit more like wanting to be internal and
- 15:20Speaker 1: be at home and rest, and I really try and
- 15:23Speaker 1: honor that. But yeah, I think this way of eating
- 15:25Speaker 1: is just really supporting my health right now and I've
- 15:27Speaker 1: never felt better, and same with Steve, which is really cool.
- 15:30Speaker 1: So yeah, it has been a journey. I feel like
- 15:34Speaker 1: I've tried every diet under the sun over the years,
- 15:37Speaker 1: and I don't regret any of that because I think
- 15:39Speaker 1: that diet and eating isn't a one size fits all.
- 15:43Speaker 1: I think it's really important for every single individual to
- 15:46Speaker 1: trial and really tune into what foods are eating and
- 15:49Speaker 1: what feels good and what doesn't like. If your body
- 15:51Speaker 1: reacts and responds to certain foods, I feel like that
- 15:54Speaker 1: is an invitation to actually go, oh, maybe my body
- 15:57Speaker 1: doesn't like this, Maybe I should try something else. And
- 16:00Speaker 1: at the end of the day two, if you're having
- 16:01Speaker 1: reactions to foods, you may have some gut issues as well,
- 16:04Speaker 1: which might be worth getting some bloods done and working
- 16:06Speaker 1: with the nature path to build up your gut health
- 16:08Speaker 1: that make sure you're getting enough fiber, et cetera. But yeah,
- 16:11Speaker 1: this way of eating I really really enjoy I thought
- 16:15Speaker 1: I would miss sauces. I love sauces like I love
- 16:19Speaker 1: tomato and barbecue sauces. But I found a brand called
- 16:22Speaker 1: Mingle and they sell them in health food store, coals
- 16:25Speaker 1: and woolies. This is not sponsored, by the way. I
- 16:27Speaker 1: just fell in love them. They have a tomato barbecue
- 16:29Speaker 1: and a sweet chili and the ingredients are so clean.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Cheese just makes everything so much better. I do miss
- 16:35Speaker 1: having chicken sninsels. The chicken sinsel I used to buy
- 16:37Speaker 1: obviously had crumbs and like other ingredients. But literally, I'm
- 16:41Speaker 1: eating so much less processed stuff, like it's very natural
- 16:47Speaker 1: what Earth has kind of given us. And yeah, it
- 16:49Speaker 1: feels amazing. So that's my journey with food. I love
- 16:52Speaker 1: hearing about everyone's food. Like I've got a girlfriend that
- 16:54Speaker 1: is completely vegan and she absolutely thrives and her skin's glowing,
- 16:58Speaker 1: her digestis is amazing and it feels great for her.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Like I said, I don't think there's a one size
- 17:02Speaker 1: fits all. I think it's about you finding what works
- 17:05Speaker 1: for your body. But it's cool to trial different things
- 17:08Speaker 1: to see what works and what doesn't, and you know,
- 17:10Speaker 1: readjust as you go. I remember when I had tala,
- 17:13Speaker 1: I had a Duela, and it was really cool to
- 17:16Speaker 1: learn about the different types of food you should and
- 17:20Speaker 1: shouldn't have in your fourth trimester. You know. That was
- 17:23Speaker 1: a lot of like slow cooked things, a lot of
- 17:25Speaker 1: there was a lot of rice in there, like congi,
- 17:27Speaker 1: a lot of turmeric late not Latin, not coffees, but
- 17:30Speaker 1: like turmeric drinks, a lot of tonics, black rice puddings.
- 17:35Speaker 1: But it was all like warming foods. It was nothing cold,
- 17:39Speaker 1: and that was really cool. For like twelve weeks, I
- 17:42Speaker 1: just solely ate what the Duela would recommend because that
- 17:45Speaker 1: was all the research she'd done. And I felt so
- 17:48Speaker 1: good in that period and that season because I feel
- 17:50Speaker 1: like that's truly what my body needed to be able
- 17:53Speaker 1: to heal internally, to be able to provide and make
- 17:56Speaker 1: beautiful breast milk, to be able to keep my energy
- 17:58Speaker 1: as high as it could be with a newborn baby.
- 18:01Speaker 1: But how I ate in that twelve weeks is very
- 18:03Speaker 1: different to how I eat now because I'm in a
- 18:05Speaker 1: different seasons. So yeah, I hope this helps you just
- 18:08Speaker 1: kind of reflect and check in and to see how
- 18:10Speaker 1: you're eating. And I suppose coming up to the end
- 18:13Speaker 1: of twenty twenty four, it's such a beautiful time too,
- 18:15Speaker 1: for you to do some reflection on your whole life
- 18:17Speaker 1: and what's working, what's not, and that can be including
- 18:20Speaker 1: your diet. I love doing a massive clean out of
- 18:22Speaker 1: my cupboard or my fridge and getting rid of anything
- 18:25Speaker 1: that's like expired, anything with seed oils. Now there just
- 18:28Speaker 1: isn't a lot of like crappy options in my cupboard
- 18:30Speaker 1: and fridge now, like it's all healthier, natural, more alternatives.
- 18:35Speaker 1: There's still a couple of snacks in there that I
- 18:37Speaker 1: haven't taken away from Tajiboy yet, Like he loves his
- 18:40Speaker 1: Milo bars and these rice crackers that do have one
- 18:43Speaker 1: oil at it that I don't like, but I would
- 18:45Speaker 1: say like ninety percent of what he eats is really
- 18:48Speaker 1: healthy and really clean. There is a couple of little
- 18:51Speaker 1: snacks in there. Overall, good time to have a reflection,
- 18:53Speaker 1: clean out your fridge and pantry, and really tune in
- 18:57Speaker 1: and listen to your body. I'm very like intuitive eater.
- 19:00Speaker 1: I don't have any restrictions on my diet. I just
- 19:02Speaker 1: really know what's making me feel really good in this
- 19:05Speaker 1: season of my life, and I'm following that and honoring
- 19:08Speaker 1: that until it doesn't feel good. I'm just going to
- 19:10Speaker 1: keep doing it, so I encourage you to do the same.
- 19:13Speaker 1: I also think these days there's such a big focus
- 19:16Speaker 1: on counting calories and counting macros, which I think works
- 19:20Speaker 1: for some people. And I'm not dissing at all, Like
- 19:22Speaker 1: I have friends that count their macros or count their
- 19:24Speaker 1: calories and they're on a weight loss journey, or you know,
- 19:28Speaker 1: I know people that are getting on stage to compete,
- 19:29Speaker 1: and it all serves its purpose. However, I do wish
- 19:33Speaker 1: there'd be more of a movement and more focus on
- 19:36Speaker 1: the actual nutrients in the food and also where it's
- 19:40Speaker 1: grown and the kind of sprays it on the foods.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Like I wish there was more movement and people trying
- 19:45Speaker 1: to eat more organic or like washing their fruits and
- 19:47Speaker 1: vegetables and looking at their plate of like what nutrients
- 19:49Speaker 1: am I getting? Rather than am I hitting the numbers
- 19:53Speaker 1: by the end of the day, Because a thousand calories
- 19:56Speaker 1: of fruits and vegetables is going to look very different
- 19:58Speaker 1: or it's going to digest so differently in your body
- 20:01Speaker 1: compared to a thousand calories of McDonald's meal. There is
- 20:04Speaker 1: no nutritional benefits to eating and McDonald's meal compared to
- 20:07Speaker 1: eating all the fruits and vegetables, the amount of fiber
- 20:11Speaker 1: and minerals and vitamins you get from fruits and vegetables
- 20:14Speaker 1: compared to McDonald's meals. That's where I don't like when
- 20:17Speaker 1: numbers come into it because I think sometimes it's at
- 20:19Speaker 1: the cost of your actual health. And maybe short term,
- 20:24Speaker 1: I don't know, depending on what you're doing with your calories,
- 20:25Speaker 1: you may lose weight. But long term, I think we
- 20:27Speaker 1: need to really think about your health. Maybe that's just
- 20:30Speaker 1: me getting older, but I think as you get older too,
- 20:32Speaker 1: you really do just value life so much and you
- 20:34Speaker 1: know that it is so short and tomorrow isn't promised,
- 20:38Speaker 1: and when you're younger, you're so focused on looking a
- 20:40Speaker 1: certain way, and now it's all about longevity, Like I
- 20:43Speaker 1: want to eat in a way that I know my
- 20:45Speaker 1: body is thriving so that I can be healthier for
- 20:48Speaker 1: longer and be around for my kids and my grain kids, etc. So, yeah,
- 20:52Speaker 1: I wish it was more normalized to focus on nutrients,
- 20:56Speaker 1: and I wish there was more conversations around that. If
- 20:59Speaker 1: you are someone that is struggling with inflammation, PCOS and
- 21:03Speaker 1: hormone issues, skin breakouts, bad sleep, brain fog anything like that.
- 21:08Speaker 1: I kind of feel like, what have you got to
- 21:09Speaker 1: lose by altering things in your diet. If you are
- 21:12Speaker 1: finding you are struggling with any of that, and food
- 21:14Speaker 1: can be medicine, why not try a different way of
- 21:18Speaker 1: eating and try it for thirty days and see how
- 21:21Speaker 1: your body responds. I'm not saying it has to be
- 21:23Speaker 1: the animal diet. It could be whatever it feels right
- 21:25Speaker 1: for you intuitively. But if you try something for thirty
- 21:28Speaker 1: days and see improvements and like, that's a win. But
- 21:32Speaker 1: if what you're doing right now, if you're so sick
- 21:35Speaker 1: of feeling how you're feeling and you're aren't seeing any improvements,
- 21:39Speaker 1: take control of your health and trial different ways of
- 21:42Speaker 1: eating and try to add in more natural foods, less processed,
- 21:48Speaker 1: less sugars, less takeout, more nature, more higher protein, healthy fats,
- 21:55Speaker 1: and getting creative with the way that you eat. In
- 21:58Speaker 1: that sense, and I can almost guarantee one, if not all,
- 22:02Speaker 1: of those things will improve in your life. The brain,
- 22:05Speaker 1: the mental clarity, the sleep, your skin, your energy, your moods,
- 22:09Speaker 1: your sex drive, like all those things that I feel
- 22:11Speaker 1: like we ought to improve. You've got nothing to lose
- 22:14Speaker 1: by just trialing and tweaking things in the way that
- 22:17Speaker 1: you eat. I know, eating organic it can be really expensive. However,
- 22:22Speaker 1: there's definitely cheaper ways to do it. If you go
- 22:24Speaker 1: to your like your local farmers' markets. I feel like
- 22:26Speaker 1: that's always so much cheaper than a health food store.
- 22:29Speaker 1: So on a Sunday, Steve and I and the kids
- 22:31Speaker 1: will go down to the markets and we will stock
- 22:33Speaker 1: up on all of our fruits and vegetables, and it's
- 22:36Speaker 1: so much cheaper. But then during the week I do
- 22:37Speaker 1: do a drop into flineeries to restock whatever we need.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Same with eggs. There are a lot cheaper at the
- 22:41Speaker 1: markets as well. And I just think for myself, like
- 22:44Speaker 1: I don't drink, I don't do drugs, you know, I
- 22:47Speaker 1: really value my health, so that's where I like to
- 22:50Speaker 1: spend my money. Everyone's so different, you know, you might
- 22:53Speaker 1: really value going out and having a cocktail with your
- 22:55Speaker 1: friends on the weekend, but for me personally, it's an
- 22:58Speaker 1: investment in my health and in my life for longevity
- 23:01Speaker 1: long term, and that's really important to me. So I
- 23:03Speaker 1: think it's how we perceive it well. But yeah, there
- 23:06Speaker 1: is definitely cheaper ways to do it. You can also
- 23:07Speaker 1: order organic boxes of fruit and vegetables from local farms,
- 23:11Speaker 1: and I found them to be a lot cheaper than
- 23:12Speaker 1: going to like your local flanteerries as well. And then
- 23:15Speaker 1: some fruits and vegetables are more heavily spray than others.
- 23:18Speaker 1: So for example, strawberries that you buy from coals or woolies,
- 23:23Speaker 1: there's up to fourteen different pesticides and sprays on them
- 23:27Speaker 1: that like when you're ingesting that it is just so
- 23:29Speaker 1: bad for your body, compared to like say a pineapple
- 23:33Speaker 1: that isn't as many. So if you were to buy
- 23:36Speaker 1: something organic, I would recommend it being like spinach, strawberries, apples,
- 23:42Speaker 1: things that you eat the skin, your sweet potatoes, but
- 23:44Speaker 1: things that have a cover, I feel like it's a
- 23:45Speaker 1: little bit more protected and just no eating organic. Also
- 23:49Speaker 1: that it's being grown in a beautiful foundation of healthy
- 23:53Speaker 1: soil as well, and they're not normally plucked or pulled
- 23:56Speaker 1: out before they've ripened, and you want your fruits and
- 23:59Speaker 1: vegetables to be fully ripe so that they have all
- 24:01Speaker 1: of the newtribes in the mouth. They get plucked earlier,
- 24:04Speaker 1: a lot of the time, they won't be containing all
- 24:06Speaker 1: the nutrients that you're wanting to get from them. But yeah,
- 24:08Speaker 1: the soil on where your fruit vegetable has grown has
- 24:11Speaker 1: massive impact on the quality of the fruit and vegetables
- 24:14Speaker 1: that you're eating. We just want it as less amount
- 24:17Speaker 1: of sprays as possible. And if you can't afford organic too,
- 24:19Speaker 1: then you can also wash them at home. You can
- 24:21Speaker 1: buy fruit and vegetable washes, or I've seen online that
- 24:23Speaker 1: there's like mixtus you can do with like baking, I
- 24:25Speaker 1: think baking soda, baking powder and apple sided vinegar or
- 24:28Speaker 1: something that's a really cool way to do it as well.
- 24:31Speaker 1: I also wanted to note that my body doesn't react
- 24:33Speaker 1: badly to bread, rice or pasta and even a lot
- 24:35Speaker 1: of processed foods, whereas Steve can feel quite brain foggy
- 24:38Speaker 1: and overall slower and just like not as good when
- 24:41Speaker 1: he's consuming those things. Because I feel like whenever I
- 24:43Speaker 1: talk about diet, there's always a little bit of pushback
- 24:46Speaker 1: or people think I'm being restrictive or I'm giving bad advice.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Remember this is just my journey. But know that this
- 24:51Speaker 1: didn't come from a place of feeling crap or hating
- 24:54Speaker 1: my body at all, or any kind of online pressure
- 24:56Speaker 1: or influence or losing weight it was simply going with
- 25:00Speaker 1: what I was craving, and I didn't realize how much
- 25:03Speaker 1: better I could feel now that I'm eating ninety percent natural,
- 25:07Speaker 1: organic foods, which just feels so good for my bodies.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Because I think a lot of the time you can
- 25:12Speaker 1: start dieting or following a trend online and you're being
- 25:15Speaker 1: influenced elsewhere. But it's really important for you to check
- 25:18Speaker 1: in your own body, your own lifestyle, your own goals,
- 25:21Speaker 1: and finding what works for you. But I'm going to
- 25:24Speaker 1: wrap it up. Thank you for joining me. I really
- 25:25Speaker 1: hope you guys enjoyed this, and I'll be back in
- 25:28Speaker 1: your ears tomorrow. Bye.
