- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, Demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Adam Smith in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:38Hi, it's Adam here now. This is a hypnosis session all
- 0:43about reducing wine consumption and I was working with a client
- 0:48that had made massive. Progress that reduced.
- 0:52The amount of. Wine.
- 0:53They were drinking based on our first session, but in between
- 0:57the first session and this session they were able to use
- 1:00the. Time as reconnaissance on their.
- 1:03Own life and they figured out that actually there were certain
- 1:06times where they felt like they needed a drink and that was.
- 1:09If they were. Very stressed if they were
- 1:11anxious about something they had.
- 1:12To prepare. For the next day, if they were
- 1:15going through tough moments of moments.
- 1:17Of sadness or. Overwhelm.
- 1:19Or if there were social gatherings that were happening
- 1:21in the evening in a midweek, they would feel like they needed
- 1:25it. So the essence of.
- 1:27This hypnosis is. A new belief system and a belief
- 1:31system can be a rule based belief system.
- 1:35A rule based belief system is something that goes along the
- 1:37lines of if A then B and lots of people.
- 1:42Have unconscious. Rules.
- 1:45If people annoy me, I'll speak my mind.
- 1:49You know, that's the kind of belief system that people may
- 1:52have. If this, then that, this belief
- 1:55system is the idea that if I need wine, then I don't want
- 1:59wine. And that's really important
- 2:02because it doesn't mean that wine can never be drunk.
- 2:04Ever again. It specifically addresses the
- 2:08idea of needing it, and needing it is what leads to dependency.
- 2:13And a lot of these stories that link to needs are just
- 2:17narratives and they're not true. And I've, I've heard people say
- 2:22I. Need a drink That's.
- 2:24Clearly not true. It is not a biological need.
- 2:28What they're saying is is that they feel like they need it, not
- 2:32that they actually need it. And when you actually.
- 2:34Call the bluff. Of a false belief system and you
- 2:37say, actually the truth is I don't need it, I just want it.
- 2:42Then that feels empowering. But if it feels like a need.
- 2:45Then. Suddenly it's not on the table
- 2:48anymore. It's no longer possible and it
- 2:51forces a better relationship. And this can work in lots of
- 2:56different things as well. I've worked.
- 2:58With gamblers. And if they feel a compulsion to
- 3:01gamble, a great thing is if it if it feels like I have to
- 3:05gamble, I'm not gambling at all. You know, if I feel a craving
- 3:10for a certain food, well, I won't eat it at all.
- 3:13And it becomes a polarity response.
- 3:15Where the more. Intense the emotion, the more
- 3:17defiant you become, and that's the very essence of what makes.
- 3:21It work so. This is specifically about
- 3:25drinking wine and reducing the amount of wine.
- 3:28But the. Concept behind this can apply to
- 3:31lots of different things and if you like the idea of working
- 3:33with me directly, but to focus on your particular.
- 3:36Thing rather than wine. Or even if it is wine specific
- 3:41circumstances that relate to you and your life, have a look in
- 3:44the descripcion of this episode and there's.
- 3:46Various ways that you can learn about how to.
- 3:48Work with me for now though. Find a quiet, comfortable place
- 3:52where you won't be distracted or disturbed.
- 3:55Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in and as you
- 4:32breathe in, breathe in that resourceful feeling of calm and
- 4:37relaxation. And as you exhale, just allow
- 4:43your eyelids to close. And as they close, position your
- 4:47body in such a way where relaxation is natural, where
- 4:56letting go of tension feels effortless, but it becomes
- 5:03natural for you to drift into that place, that place of deep
- 5:09relaxation, where thoughts become ideas, ideas become
- 5:14beliefs, and beliefs become naturally the way you look at
- 5:20the world. So when you breathe in, breathe
- 5:25in deeper than you normally would.
- 5:28And as you exhale, allow the outward breath to continue for
- 5:35longer and just allow it to feel like it's releasing any stress,
- 5:43any worries, any anxiety, like it's the release valve of a
- 5:49pressure cooker, just allowing it to escape.
- 5:54So much so that each breath takes you deeper and deeper,
- 6:02relaxed. And the deeper you breathe, the
- 6:07more relaxed you feel. And the more relaxed you feel,
- 6:12the deeper you breathe. And as your body relaxes, your
- 6:18imagination awakens to an enhanced level.
- 6:24And I want you to drift back to a memory, a place in nature, a
- 6:32place that is picturesque, of rivers and waterfalls, of
- 6:40landscapes, and just allow yourself to float back as I
- 6:46countdown from 5 to 1, floating back to that place, only this
- 6:54time you have the entire place just for you. 5 Floating up from
- 7:04your body. 4 Just imagine flying like an elegant bird gliding
- 7:14over oceans. 3 drifting, flying, floating.
- 7:21And just imagine you're getting closer to that incredible place
- 7:25in the world, that place of nature. 2 Drifting down and then
- 7:30one as you touchdown, you're wearing whatever clothing is
- 7:36appropriate and suitable to be in that place.
- 7:44And I want you to imagine, imagine the river is there, the
- 7:50landscape is there, the waterfall is there.
- 7:58And I want you to get a feeling that here in this place, a place
- 8:02within your imagination, is a place where change can take
- 8:09place, that can build on the very foundations that have
- 8:14already been laid. That can enable you to make
- 8:19refinements, subtle amendments and changes and distinctions
- 8:29that enable you to enhance what is already good and reduce what
- 8:38is no longer necessary. Imagine staring into the
- 8:43waterfall, seeing the river moving over and through that
- 8:49rock with a certainty that has nothing to do with effort.
- 8:56There is no motivation required for water to flow down the
- 9:01waterfall. It simply flows because that's
- 9:06what it does. It doesn't need to be convinced
- 9:10to move. It doesn't hesitate at the edge.
- 9:17It goes where it goes with complete and unhurried
- 9:22authority. Imagine floating up to the edge
- 9:28of that waterfall, hearing the rhythm of the sound of water
- 9:34cascading down. And I want you to get a sense, a
- 9:45sense of how you feel in that state of mindfulness where you.
- 9:51Activate a. Version of yourself that needs
- 9:53nothing to feel. Well, they're in that moment.
- 10:01Nature itself was enough to deal with stress or anxiety or
- 10:05worries. Sometimes what we already have
- 10:11is more than enough to provide everything.
- 10:15Clarity, stillness, groundedness.
- 10:21So here in this place, your mind is open to new ideas.
- 10:32They can change things in a wonderful direction.
- 10:38And I want you to think of someone, either yourself or
- 10:41someone you knew. They twisted their ankle or
- 10:45broke their leg years ago and then it healed completely.
- 10:54But just imagine there was a period of time where they were
- 10:56using crutches to move around. But I want you to imagine that
- 11:02person that at one point did need the crutch continues to use
- 11:10the crutches when there is no need for them anymore.
- 11:17Their ankle, their leg has long since healed, and yet they
- 11:21continue to hobble around using those crutches.
- 11:27Not because they need the crutch.
- 11:30Because they believe. The story.
- 11:32That they need the crotch. That somewhere along the way the
- 11:37crotch became part of the routine because it helped once
- 11:44there was a belief that it will continue helping.
- 11:51And I want you to entertain the possibility that for a while,
- 11:57maybe longer than you think, wine has been that crunch for
- 12:03you. Logically, you know, it's not a
- 12:08solution to stress, not an actual resource.
- 12:15It's a prop that got picked up in the evening and came to feel
- 12:19like part of the ritual of winding down, while the very
- 12:25stress it was supposed to address was simply postponed,
- 12:30intact, waiting on the other side of the glass or perhaps the
- 12:36next morning. Some people believe that the
- 12:44body keeps the score. And I want you to think of that
- 12:49data that you've been seeing. Sleep analysis, energy levels,
- 12:56readiness scores, improvements in running and fitness.
- 13:06What if they're telling you the truth, the same story clearly
- 13:11and consistently, but your body performs better, recovers
- 13:17better, and feels more itself on those mornings after the nights
- 13:26that you've been using that crotch that you don't actually
- 13:29need anymore? The crotch that we can call wine
- 13:35was never doing what it appeared to be doing.
- 13:40It was making things a little more blurred for a few hours and
- 13:44then returning them unchanged while taking something from the
- 13:50sleep and the energy and the clarity, paradoxically would
- 13:55have handled the stress far more effectively.
- 14:01Let's plant a seed of an idea that wine is a crotch that you
- 14:06no longer need. Your body has been showing you
- 14:10the proof for months. You don't need the crotch in the
- 14:19same way that a child may need stabilizers on a bike to learn,
- 14:27but it would be ridiculous to keep those stabilizers on a
- 14:30bike, and they can ride the bike without it.
- 14:34And what if there's a single principle that resolves almost
- 14:41every difficult moment around wine, and your unconscious can
- 14:47receive this now as something that operates automatically
- 14:53below the level of conscious deliberation, an intuitive
- 14:58compass. That Orient's instantly and
- 15:01reliably the idea, the concept, the principle is simple.
- 15:11If you feel like you need it, then you don't want it.
- 15:19Think about that. If you feel like you need it,
- 15:26the need, that means you don't want it.
- 15:30Because the need tells you you're treating it like the
- 15:33crotch. And if you use it like a crotch,
- 15:37you'll start believing you need the crotch even more.
- 15:45And this isn't a restriction, a forbidden rule.
- 15:51It's a distinction, the most important distinction available.
- 15:57At the very point when a stressful evening arrives, a
- 16:02difficult presentation looms or an emotionally heavy day finds
- 16:07its way to the end, you already know deep down that genuinely
- 16:12wanting wine is a different experience entirely.
- 16:19It feels different. The ease of a celebratory Class,
- 16:26A beautiful meal when exploring parts of the world and
- 16:31discovering new great varieties and flavours, and where the wine
- 16:39adds something to an experience that was already good.
- 16:45When it enhances, then that's not a need, that's simply a
- 16:52choice. Needing wine is a completely
- 16:58different quality. The particular pull of it
- 17:02arriving before you've even made a choice.
- 17:07The sense that the evening cannot quite begin without it,
- 17:14that you wouldn't feel right if it wasn't there, That something
- 17:19will be harder or more uncomfortable to navigate
- 17:23without it. And this feeling is the crutch
- 17:29talking. But now you know what it sounds
- 17:34like how it speaks. I'll need this.
- 17:39I can't get through this without it.
- 17:42The moment you identify it as the crutch, well, then the
- 17:48compass turns immediately and clearly, maybe through in a
- 17:52dialogue or a sensation in your chest or your gut.
- 17:57This is the crutch, not the choice.
- 18:02If you feel like you need it, and you know you don't need it,
- 18:07and you don't want it either. A need is a psychological trick.
- 18:18There's very few things you actually need.
- 18:22You need oxygen or you will die. Just a few minutes without
- 18:30oxygen is enough for you to no longer exist, and a few days
- 18:43without water shows that that is also a true need.
- 18:55And a few weeks without food, or perhaps just a few days without
- 19:02good sleep. These are your real needs.
- 19:10Ask yourself the question, could you live for a decade without
- 19:15wine if you needed to? You know there's people that
- 19:22don't drink wine at all and they're fine.
- 19:27Therefore you've got irrefutable evidence that nobody needs wine.
- 19:34That's why this unconscious boundary works, because if it
- 19:39feels like you need it, that's the very reason why you don't
- 19:44want it. Not because you don't like wine
- 19:48or want wine. It's the dependency.
- 19:52You don't want that. If you need it, then you don't
- 19:57want it, and your unconscious can hold each of those
- 20:05situations that have previously pulled you towards the crutch.
- 20:11And meet them with a different understanding.
- 20:16General stress. At the end of the day it's fine
- 20:20just to be present with yourself.
- 20:24Pre presentation anxiety, you're fine.
- 20:30A small wave of anxiety can help you prepare more, and those
- 20:36emotionally heavy days, things that connect to sadness,
- 20:42overwhelm. I want you to get a sense that
- 20:49those genuinely difficult days are enhanced by actually
- 20:55feeling, and you are someone who can feel hard things without
- 21:00being destroyed by them. You've done it many times before
- 21:06and you can do it again. Sitting with the feeling and
- 21:10knowing you can cope actually leads to growth decisions,
- 21:16insights that enhance your life. And those social evenings, maybe
- 21:24on a midweek? Well, this is where your
- 21:28internal compass is most useful. You already know that if the
- 21:34same gathering was at lunchtime, you wouldn't even think of
- 21:38having a drink. Therefore, your unconscious
- 21:44knows how to act as if it's a lunchtime gathering even if it's
- 21:50in the evening. Because with different time
- 21:54zones across the world, that is true.
- 21:59It is lunchtime somewhere. Always.
- 22:07Crutch was never doing what you thought it was.
- 22:11Your body has been showing you the proof for months.
- 22:15This has been an echo. An echo of something that at
- 22:20some time did actually help. But you don't need that help
- 22:26anymore. If you feel like you need it,
- 22:31you don't want it. I wonder where that compass is
- 22:36within you, That automatic, reliable, intuitive feeling that
- 22:42steers you in the right direction.
- 22:47Genuine choice is available. If you're choosing to drink
- 22:52because you want to, not because you need to, then drink a glass
- 22:58of wine with a meal, a celebration, a social gathering
- 23:05where you know that you don't need to drink if you don't want
- 23:08to. All of it enables you to feel
- 23:14you're in control. And I want you to imagine.
- 23:21Imagine seeing yourself in the weeks that follow.
- 23:28You want to have that first evening when you're stressed and
- 23:33not drink anyway. You want to be invited to that
- 23:38social gathering on a Wednesday or Thursday knowing that you'll
- 23:43go and not drink at all. You want to have that first
- 23:48tough day and know know that you don't need to drink to get
- 23:55through it. If you're unconscious, feels
- 24:02that you have more than enough resources to no longer need that
- 24:06old crutch that was never working, well, let me know by
- 24:10nodding your head. That's it.
- 24:16So there you are by the waterfall, by the river.
- 24:18Just float up into the sky and feel like you're floating all
- 24:23the way back. But when I count from 1:00 to
- 24:2810:00, you will return fully connected and calibrated into
- 24:32your body, fully present in the moment, sensations returning to
- 24:38arms and legs fully, fully connected.
- 24:42So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 24:47nose. Wiggle your fingers and wiggle
- 24:50your toes. Connect and calibrate.
- 24:52That's it here and now as I count from 1:00 to 10:00 to
- 24:57awaken you. Starting to count. 123 Waking up
- 25:04456, More alert 7-8. Open your eyes.
- 25:09Open your eyes, 910. Wide awake.
- 25:13Wide awake. Wide awake.
