- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money.
- 0:02Speaker 2: She's on the Money.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 0:26Speaker 3: for millennials who want financial freedom. Welcome to another one
- 0:30Speaker 3: of our Friday Drinks episodes where we get to celebrate
- 0:32Speaker 3: the money wins from the She's on the Money community,
- 0:35Speaker 3: talk a little bit about lockdown being extended, and talk
- 0:39Speaker 3: about accountability August, which is super fun. So before we
- 0:44Speaker 3: jumped straight into that, I wanted to wrap the week
- 0:46Speaker 3: so that we could all get up to speed on
- 0:48Speaker 3: exactly what you might have missed. Tony Lodge, what did
- 0:52Speaker 3: we miss on Monday's Money Diary this week?
- 0:55Speaker 4: Our money diarist on Monday covered a topic that we've
- 0:59Speaker 4: never really broached before from a money diary, and she
- 1:03Speaker 4: sent her money Diary in to kind of reach out
- 1:05Speaker 4: to the Asian community of She's on the Money and
- 1:09Speaker 4: talk about the reality of sending money to your parents
- 1:12Speaker 4: every week and kind of broke the stigma, all the
- 1:15Speaker 4: thoughts around it being mandatory or that you.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Have to do it. She kind of explained that she
- 1:22Speaker 1: loves doing it.
- 1:22Speaker 4: She loves supporting her parents and kind of giving them
- 1:25Speaker 4: the support that they gave her when she was a kid.
- 1:28Speaker 4: So it was actually so Yeah, it was really really
- 1:32Speaker 4: cool and just such a different culture to what I
- 1:36Speaker 4: experience or you might experience or whatever. So if you're
- 1:39Speaker 4: kind of interested in what that looks like, I'd definitely
- 1:42Speaker 4: give it a listen because it was super cool.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I loved it, and I actually got a few dms
- 1:46Speaker 3: from people in our community who were like, Oh my gosh,
- 1:48Speaker 3: I resonated with that so much because I do that
- 1:51Speaker 3: with my family, and a couple of them actually shared
- 1:54Speaker 3: photos of their families that they've been sending money to,
- 1:57Speaker 3: and oh my gosh, it made my heart so and
- 2:00Speaker 3: I just am a bit upset that we hadn't broached
- 2:02Speaker 3: the topic sooner, because it seems that there are a
- 2:05Speaker 3: lot of people out in our community who are sending
- 2:07Speaker 3: money home, and to be honest, how noble is that. Like,
- 2:11Speaker 3: it's just something that makes me really proud to know
- 2:14Speaker 3: people like that.
- 2:14Speaker 4: You know, it was really special and, like I said,
- 2:18Speaker 4: just something that I've never really thought about or kind
- 2:20Speaker 4: of thought. Oh, imagine if you didn't have the money
- 2:22Speaker 4: that week, then do you kind of go without dinner
- 2:25Speaker 4: because you've got to send money to your parents?
- 2:26Speaker 1: And she explained, well, actually, no, if I don't have
- 2:29Speaker 1: the money.
- 2:29Speaker 4: My mum goes, Okay, that's fine, you know, so it's
- 2:32Speaker 4: not as kind of strict or like it's not like
- 2:35Speaker 4: paying your taxes, you know.
- 2:37Speaker 5: Well, I was just going to say, I lived in Malaysia, right,
- 2:39Speaker 5: and there was a lot of chat about what they
- 2:41Speaker 5: would call double tax because you get taxed by the
- 2:43Speaker 5: government and then I know, taxes doesn't feel like the
- 2:46Speaker 5: right word, but like the family takes a cut and
- 2:49Speaker 5: the government takes a cut, and they always talked about
- 2:51Speaker 5: this double double tax, and then how it is harder
- 2:53Speaker 5: for younger people to build personal wealth because you don't
- 2:55Speaker 5: build there's no personal wealth, especially in Asian country. It's
- 2:58Speaker 5: family wealth, you know what I mean. Like one person wins,
- 3:01Speaker 5: we all win. And if you think about even in
- 3:03Speaker 5: movies and the culture, you can kind of see that
- 3:05Speaker 5: once it's sort of been pointed out that it's like
- 3:07Speaker 5: the whole family's rich.
- 3:09Speaker 6: We had a lot of really great feedback on socials
- 3:11Speaker 6: following on from Monday's posts as well.
- 3:13Speaker 3: One girl I was chatting to she was like, as.
- 3:15Speaker 6: A person of color, this makes me feel really seen
- 3:17Speaker 6: and I'm so excited to see you guys lifting up
- 3:19Speaker 6: voices of people, and I hope you can do more
- 3:22Speaker 6: of those in the future. And I just wanted to
- 3:24Speaker 6: say we obviously are like so grateful and thankful that
- 3:28Speaker 6: we get plenty of people sending through their money diaries
- 3:30Speaker 6: and wanting to share their stories. But we can only
- 3:33Speaker 6: share the stories of people that come through so and
- 3:37Speaker 6: like you know, heritage or culture or religion, none of
- 3:40Speaker 6: those are prerequisites for being a money direst. And we
- 3:43Speaker 6: love hearing diverse stories. So if you do have a
- 3:46Speaker 6: story that you would like to share, please send it
- 3:48Speaker 6: through to us and outline just a really brief overview
- 3:51Speaker 6: of story. We get so many that we aren't able
- 3:53Speaker 6: to get back to every single person. I'm really sorry,
- 3:55Speaker 6: but we do really try to share a diverse range
- 3:58Speaker 6: and the more people, the more stories, and the more
- 4:00Speaker 6: backgrounds that we get, the better.
- 4:02Speaker 3: We're able to do that. Yeah, and that's so special.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Like when we get to share stories, it is honestly
- 4:07Speaker 3: my favorite part of my week. It is the best part.
- 4:11Speaker 3: But let's move on because I could go on about
- 4:13Speaker 3: money diaries literally forever. Jessica, back to you. What happened
- 4:17Speaker 3: in this week's Deep Dive. This week on the Deep Dive,
- 4:20Speaker 3: week spoke about job interviews and how they can be
- 4:23Speaker 3: a really scary, really tough.
- 4:25Speaker 6: Thing if you're someone like me who gets super anxious
- 4:27Speaker 6: with those high pressure situations. So we went through a
- 4:31Speaker 6: really great almost like a checklist of like things you
- 4:33Speaker 6: can do beforehand, things you can do in the interview,
- 4:36Speaker 6: any like aftercare or follow up, to make you feel
- 4:39Speaker 6: like you're super prepped and super empowered to shine your
- 4:43Speaker 6: best light.
- 4:44Speaker 3: In that interview.
- 4:44Speaker 6: Because it is a super competitive market and I think
- 4:48Speaker 6: there's a very small number of people who love going
- 4:50Speaker 6: in for interviews, and even if it's not your favorite experience,
- 4:53Speaker 6: there are some things you can do to put your
- 4:55Speaker 6: best foot forward.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I love job interviews.
- 4:58Speaker 3: How do you love job interview?
- 5:00Speaker 1: I love talking about myself?
- 5:02Speaker 3: I was literally about to say, I do not know
- 5:04Speaker 3: one person who loves job interviews, and you're like outing
- 5:07Speaker 3: yourself before I even ask the question. I do why
- 5:11Speaker 3: just because you love talking about yourself?
- 5:12Speaker 5: Well, in your last job interview, Victoria and I paid
- 5:15Speaker 5: for your lunch, So maybe that's it.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Hey, it was one coffee and we got rained out
- 5:19Speaker 1: and then we had to leave.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Sorry are you complaining you got the job?
- 5:24Speaker 1: I am all right?
- 5:26Speaker 3: No revert to lunch, no problems. We'll talk about this
- 5:29Speaker 3: later Tony Lodge. But as always, we are going to
- 5:32Speaker 3: go straight into our money wins from the community that
- 5:36Speaker 3: Ryan John pulls together. Ryan, what if you got this week?
- 5:39Speaker 5: Rachel Morris has a win, and I think all of
- 5:41Speaker 5: us can just nod our heads and go what an
- 5:43Speaker 5: absolute lord. I found a dress I wanted for an
- 5:46Speaker 5: engagement party for one hundred and ten dollars, and like
- 5:49Speaker 5: a lot of people in the group say, you know,
- 5:50Speaker 5: put twenty four hours between you purchase, you thought I
- 5:52Speaker 5: might just see if I really wanted I'll sleep on it.
- 5:55Speaker 5: She went back the next week to look at the
- 5:56Speaker 5: same dress. Instead of being one hundred and ten, it
- 5:59Speaker 5: was thirty the exact same dress, brand new from one
- 6:02Speaker 5: hundred and ten to thirty dollars, so she bought it.
- 6:04Speaker 5: It was on sale. Well done, goat job. Zara has
- 6:08Speaker 5: a good one. I haven't taken any money out of
- 6:10Speaker 5: my savings account for sixty three days in a row.
- 6:16Speaker 5: Get it. I love that Rebecca Brown. During lockdown, I
- 6:20Speaker 5: was bored, so I started playing around making masks because
- 6:22Speaker 5: she's obviously good at knitting or sewing, and just wanted
- 6:24Speaker 5: to keep busy. You know, we're all driving ourselves insane
- 6:27Speaker 5: at home.
- 6:27Speaker 3: I would assume sewing. Can you imagine a knitted mask?
- 6:30Speaker 5: You cop.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Would just go straight through like me, most useless mask.
- 6:37Speaker 3: It's like a crochet the KINI also useless.
- 6:42Speaker 5: Could I sound any more like a middle aged white
- 6:45Speaker 5: guy just trying to explain, Oh, if you just knit
- 6:47Speaker 5: it together, you pull off things.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Just shaking my head, being like, no, Ryan, Yeah, I
- 6:53Speaker 3: didn't knit her.
- 6:54Speaker 5: Great story, Ryan, keep telling him. She thought, since she
- 6:58Speaker 5: made them, she saidself a goal of I'm going to
- 7:01Speaker 5: make five hundred dollars by selling them on Facebook marketplaces
- 7:04Speaker 5: in a month?
- 7:06Speaker 3: Is it an accountability August goal?
- 7:09Speaker 5: Five hundred dollars in a month. Five hundred dollars in
- 7:12Speaker 5: a month was the goal. But unfortunately that will not
- 7:15Speaker 5: be the result because in the first four days she
- 7:17Speaker 5: made one thousand dollars. A thousand dollars in four days.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Way to one thousand dollars.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Guys, she could bank account.
- 7:27Speaker 5: Get the sewing pins and knitting needles out for wild times. Well,
- 7:33Speaker 5: and I can confirm I have been in touch with
- 7:35Speaker 5: Rebecca today and that one thousand dollars is now up
- 7:39Speaker 5: to one thousand and thirty eight because I have purchased
- 7:41Speaker 5: some myself and she's sending them to my office. So
- 7:44Speaker 5: thank you Rebecca for that. And customer, does.
- 7:47Speaker 1: She have like a business name that we can give.
- 7:49Speaker 3: A little can we share it? Can you imagine if
- 7:51Speaker 3: it was like triple that?
- 7:53Speaker 5: Well, she actually said that it's because it's gone wild,
- 7:56Speaker 5: like literally in the last week. She can't keep up.
- 7:57Speaker 5: But it's in the Facebook group. So let me ask
- 7:59Speaker 5: her for some details, and if we get a bit
- 8:01Speaker 5: of an update, I can reshare that into the group
- 8:03Speaker 5: and a little link or something. Yeah, but she's flat out.
- 8:05Speaker 5: I don't want to overwhelm her and send one hundred
- 8:07Speaker 5: and eighty thousand people from the group to her website.
- 8:10Speaker 5: Her poor knitting hands won't be able to keep up,
- 8:12Speaker 5: all right. Melissa said she received a letter from Optis.
- 8:16Speaker 5: Now I think this was in the news, so some
- 8:17Speaker 5: other people might have had something similar. I received a
- 8:20Speaker 5: letter from Optus. They're compensating me a thousand dollars from
- 8:23Speaker 5: the NBN that we had two years ago, and I
- 8:26Speaker 5: think there was some sort of refund payout. They promised
- 8:29Speaker 5: a certain speed that they couldn't end up delivering. It
- 8:31Speaker 5: was one of those sort of stories. So, I mean,
- 8:34Speaker 5: when you get slow Internet, you kind of just get frustrated.
- 8:36Speaker 5: You don't really think about the legalities of it. But
- 8:38Speaker 5: she has a check for one thousand dollars as a repayment.
- 8:42Speaker 3: That's a good money win. That is, that's the money
- 8:44Speaker 3: when you didn't see coming like that's the truest of
- 8:47Speaker 3: true money wins.
- 8:48Speaker 5: I believe yeap Georgia Baker, And I don't know if
- 8:51Speaker 5: you saw this photo in the group. She took a
- 8:53Speaker 5: screenshot of her phone because she was on hold for
- 8:56Speaker 5: one hour and fifty seven minutes. Oh my god, to
- 9:00Speaker 5: get through to on my Gov and Center link. It's
- 9:03Speaker 5: been really hard for a lot of people after countless
- 9:06Speaker 5: hurdles and on hold for this long. Today, I finally
- 9:08Speaker 5: got my disaster payment for being fourteen days in quarantine
- 9:12Speaker 5: because she was in a bit of a tricky spot.
- 9:14Speaker 5: I can now pay my rent and bills without touching
- 9:16Speaker 5: my emergency fund. What a massive relief. And she did
- 9:20Speaker 5: point out though that it would have been more stressful
- 9:23Speaker 5: obviously if she had not had the emergency fund. At
- 9:26Speaker 5: least she would have then had an option to make
- 9:29Speaker 5: and she said obviously we never really want to use
- 9:32Speaker 5: our emergency fund, but just having it there, it took
- 9:34Speaker 5: a lot of stress off, and that, I guess is
- 9:35Speaker 5: the whole point of having it so well done.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Yeah for sure.
- 9:38Speaker 5: Now Kirale Hall will we say. She's a frequent commentor
- 9:41Speaker 5: and great value on both Instagram and Facebook. She's all
- 9:44Speaker 5: over it money loss. I bought a Nintendo Switch and
- 9:48Speaker 5: a whole bunch of games and probably spent more than
- 9:50Speaker 5: I would have liked. But I'm in lockdown and I
- 9:52Speaker 5: work at Aldi, so I think I deserve it. This
- 9:54Speaker 5: is now in my self care slash lockdown win, and
- 9:57Speaker 5: I'm taking it.
- 9:57Speaker 6: So on your here and shout out to everyone who
- 10:02Speaker 6: does work in an essential service, all of our supermarket
- 10:04Speaker 6: workers and healthcare professionals. Because it's tough, and I know
- 10:09Speaker 6: that sometimes it can be hard when you see everyone
- 10:10Speaker 6: else working from home, and obviously everything has its own challenges,
- 10:14Speaker 6: but those people who are still getting up and going
- 10:16Speaker 6: to work every day, you guys are my heroes.
- 10:18Speaker 5: All right, V you've got your phone in your hand,
- 10:20Speaker 5: type this into Instagram.
- 10:21Speaker 3: I'm on it.
- 10:22Speaker 5: Bells dot build. So this is Bala. She is nineteen
- 10:27Speaker 5: years old and She's just finished building her own house.
- 10:31Speaker 5: She's built her own house and she's nineteen years old.
- 10:34Speaker 6: Stop it when you say she built her herself, do
- 10:36Speaker 6: you mean like she literally like nailed it together. I
- 10:39Speaker 6: mean there's more than nails holding it.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Little miss. You sound like Ryan with needing me.
- 10:45Speaker 5: I was gonna say, who's worse, me trying to describe
- 10:47Speaker 5: how to make a mask or just describing how to
- 10:49Speaker 5: build it one.
- 10:52Speaker 3: This house is so cute.
- 10:54Speaker 5: It's beautiful, isn't it?
- 10:55Speaker 3: Like her kitchen like runs rings around mine. The house
- 10:59Speaker 3: is cute. The whole thing has been documented.
- 11:01Speaker 5: How fun it really is fun? But to answer your question, Jess,
- 11:04Speaker 5: there's obviously lots of other trades and specialists and stuff
- 11:07Speaker 5: doing it. However, there are a lot of photos of
- 11:09Speaker 5: her in the high veers and the work boots on
- 11:11Speaker 5: site do it like. I don't know the extent, but
- 11:13Speaker 5: she has managed this whole process at age nineteen, way
- 11:17Speaker 5: to make the rest of us all feel useless.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Bell, and you're terrible, And they sink tap in my
- 11:23Speaker 3: bathroom doesn't even have hot water. Thank you.
- 11:25Speaker 5: Bell.
- 11:33Speaker 3: All right, we are back and today I am so
- 11:35Speaker 3: excited about this. Sounds like I'm going into an ad
- 11:38Speaker 3: but I'm not. I'm literally going to tell you how
- 11:41Speaker 3: to convince the government to give you an extra five
- 11:43Speaker 3: hundred bucks in your super which I think is a
- 11:45Speaker 3: very exciting thing. I don't think any of you are
- 11:48Speaker 3: actually eligible because you guys own too much money. But
- 11:53Speaker 3: if you earn under fifty six thousand, one hundred and
- 11:56Speaker 3: twelve dollars and you're currently making after tax contributions to
- 12:00Speaker 3: your super you could be eligible for the government to
- 12:02Speaker 3: make a co contribution of five hundred dollars to your superfund,
- 12:05Speaker 3: which is a money win if ever I heard one.
- 12:08Speaker 5: That's huge. That's huge. So what do people actually have
- 12:11Speaker 5: to do gifted?
- 12:13Speaker 6: Right?
- 12:13Speaker 5: No?
- 12:13Speaker 3: No, no, you don't just get it unfortunately, why not?
- 12:16Speaker 3: Why do I make it hard? It's not actually that hard.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Just give me the money, please, I promise you.
- 12:21Speaker 3: It's really easy. But you've got to know about it.
- 12:24Speaker 3: You've got to be in it to win it.
- 12:25Speaker 5: Right.
- 12:25Speaker 3: So if you make an after tax contribution to your superfund,
- 12:29Speaker 3: which you don't claim a tax deduction for so you
- 12:32Speaker 3: can't claim it on your tax, then you lodge your
- 12:35Speaker 3: tax return and have a total income of less than
- 12:38Speaker 3: fifty four thousand eight hundred and thirty seven dollars in
- 12:41Speaker 3: the twenty twenty one financial year or the twenty twenty
- 12:44Speaker 3: two financial year which is coming up, which is fifty
- 12:47Speaker 3: six thousand, one hundred and twelve dollars, you can receive
- 12:51Speaker 3: the co contribution, And Tony, you know how you said
- 12:54Speaker 3: before they always make you jump through hoops and apply
- 12:56Speaker 3: for things. This one. You don't actually have to apply
- 12:59Speaker 3: for the co contribute, but you do need to make
- 13:01Speaker 3: sure that your super fund has your tax file numbers
- 13:03Speaker 3: so they know whether or not that you've claimed your
- 13:06Speaker 3: super contributions or not. Then once you've lodged your tax
- 13:09Speaker 3: return with the ATO who have super fun guys, they
- 13:11Speaker 3: will then use that information to work out your eligibility,
- 13:15Speaker 3: and if you're eligible, the ATR will just automatically calculate
- 13:18Speaker 3: the amount that is owed to you and put it
- 13:20Speaker 3: in your super fund. And I think that's really fun.
- 13:24Speaker 3: I don't know about you, guys. You don't seem as
- 13:26Speaker 3: enthusiastic about this as me, because you're like, oh, it's
- 13:29Speaker 3: five hundred dollars? Is it worth it? Yes? Because I
- 13:31Speaker 3: have done the mass because well, here we go.
- 13:33Speaker 5: I'm rubbing my hands together. VI how much is it
- 13:35Speaker 5: going to be occur? Right? Right?
- 13:37Speaker 6: Right?
- 13:37Speaker 3: So if we calculated it out and worked out the
- 13:39Speaker 3: compounding interest on five hundred dollars, which is an exciting
- 13:42Speaker 3: thing to do, because I don't think many of us
- 13:45Speaker 3: are like, oh, contributing five hundred dollars to super is
- 13:48Speaker 3: it worth it?
- 13:49Speaker 1: Is it not? It doesn't sound like very much.
- 13:51Speaker 3: It doesn't sound like a lot. But I promise you
- 13:53Speaker 3: over the long term, it absolutely is. And if we
- 13:55Speaker 3: work off a base rate of seven point five percent,
- 13:58Speaker 3: we're not calculating into this any CPR or inflation, So
- 14:01Speaker 3: just f yi. But hypothetically, if you were twenty years
- 14:05Speaker 3: old and you got an additional five hundred dollars from
- 14:08Speaker 3: the government by the time you're almost ready to retire, Tony,
- 14:12Speaker 3: do you want to have a stab? How much is
- 14:13Speaker 3: that five hundred dollars worth?
- 14:15Speaker 1: Five thousand dollars?
- 14:17Speaker 3: No, it is twelve thousand, nine hundred and seventy three
- 14:22Speaker 3: dollars if you calculated out using the money Smart Government
- 14:25Speaker 3: website compounding interest calculator, which I think is so fun.
- 14:29Speaker 3: But that's only at seven point five percent, which is
- 14:32Speaker 3: pretty conservative. And I just think that that's really fun
- 14:35Speaker 3: because in retirement, you could have like twelve grand more
- 14:38Speaker 3: simply by thinking about.
- 14:39Speaker 4: It now, which is a pretty bougie holiday. Or oh
- 14:44Speaker 4: that's a lot of money.
- 14:45Speaker 3: At the end of the day, car guys, the government
- 14:47Speaker 3: will give you a car that they won't hard. That
- 14:53Speaker 3: is also, let's remember, on top of your already existing
- 14:57Speaker 3: ten percent super contributions that you are making today, which
- 15:00Speaker 3: I think is super fun and that is why super
- 15:03Speaker 3: super sexy. And you guys don't agree with me, and
- 15:05Speaker 3: that's cool. We can talk about something else. But if
- 15:08Speaker 3: you are eligible, I would be looking into that, and
- 15:11Speaker 3: that is one of the benefits of she's on the money,
- 15:12Speaker 3: because we just want to make you money. We want
- 15:14Speaker 3: to make you rich.
- 15:16Speaker 7: So basically, the government's not giving you five hundred dollars
- 15:19Speaker 7: astros Asterix. We come five hundred dollars, so you're welcome.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Yeah, don't say we don't do anything for you. All right,
- 15:32Speaker 3: Moving away from supachers. As much as that's a really
- 15:34Speaker 3: really exciting you guys don't look as enthusiastic about it
- 15:38Speaker 3: as I know you are about our accountability August check in.
- 15:42Speaker 3: So let's start with Ryan, Ryan, how are you going
- 15:45Speaker 3: with your accountability? August challenge.
- 15:48Speaker 5: Well, first of all, I would just like to say
- 15:50Speaker 5: thank you to all the people in that She's on
- 15:51Speaker 5: the Money group who have been overly supportive, because, as
- 15:54Speaker 5: I posted on Friday saying that I'm not going to
- 15:57Speaker 5: spend any money on Uber Eats at the same time
- 16:00Speaker 5: as Melbourne going back into lockdown, I feel like we're
- 16:03Speaker 5: conflicting errors. And there is literally a thousand comments on
- 16:06Speaker 5: this post of people being like, lockdown doesn't count, It's
- 16:09Speaker 5: totally fine, get your wife divide.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Do you need a voucher like we've got you?
- 16:14Speaker 5: So take this to yourself and to be honest, And
- 16:18Speaker 5: I don't know if this sounds like a bit softy,
- 16:20Speaker 5: but obviously we're all bummed out about lockdown. But just
- 16:22Speaker 5: reading through that thread of people just like making jokes
- 16:24Speaker 5: about it and saying it doesn't count, it was actually
- 16:26Speaker 5: pretty funny and put a smile on my face. So
- 16:27Speaker 5: that was great. But to answer your question, how's it going?
- 16:30Speaker 5: Not well? Not well at all, I think, And I mean,
- 16:36Speaker 5: what a great cop out. But when you can't really
- 16:38Speaker 5: do much during the day and you don't really have
- 16:40Speaker 5: much to look forward to, just being able to have
- 16:43Speaker 5: some delicious food that someone else cooked is fantastic, and
- 16:47Speaker 5: I just want to share my favorite comment. I don't
- 16:48Speaker 5: know if it was a meme or a comment or
- 16:50Speaker 5: a tweet or somewhere I saw it, but someone said,
- 16:54Speaker 5: getting COVID means you might be short of breath. Getting
- 16:57Speaker 5: into lockdown means you're now allergic to all the food
- 16:59Speaker 5: already in your fridge. It's no interest. So I definitely
- 17:04Speaker 5: feel that. I reckon. I've had uber eats once or
- 17:06Speaker 5: it's still actually less once, probably used to.
- 17:10Speaker 3: I think it might have been a few more times
- 17:12Speaker 3: than once.
- 17:13Speaker 5: Ryan John, no once or twice. I think going direct
- 17:18Speaker 5: to the restaurant was loop hole. We discussed last week.
- 17:20Speaker 5: That may have been exercised again, but I just, I
- 17:24Speaker 5: guess more conscious of it as well and not just
- 17:27Speaker 5: getting the worst option, even if it's a healthier Uber
- 17:30Speaker 5: eat than just always being pizza or burgers or something
- 17:33Speaker 5: like that. There are a lot of like I live
- 17:35Speaker 5: in Richmond's, there are a good of like really fresh
- 17:37Speaker 5: like Vietnamese places and stuff like that. So trying to
- 17:39Speaker 5: not still be as fat as I was, But I'm
- 17:42Speaker 5: fighting the good fight and still going but loud.
- 17:45Speaker 3: If you Ryan, congratulations.
- 17:47Speaker 5: Thank you. I appreciate that, jess What is happening though?
- 17:50Speaker 5: Where are you up to with yours? Because you were
- 17:51Speaker 5: planning on selling a whole step of things on marketplace, right.
- 17:54Speaker 4: Which is probably pretty hard if you can't have people
- 17:57Speaker 4: coming over.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Correct.
- 17:58Speaker 6: So I was doing really well week when I had
- 18:00Speaker 6: made ninety dollars and then we went bang straight into lockdown,
- 18:05Speaker 6: and so I've puperted, shall we say. And I'm selling
- 18:08Speaker 6: a lot of stuff on my deepop, which means that
- 18:10Speaker 6: I can just post things out to people. I like,
- 18:12Speaker 6: pre bought a bunch of like postage things so I
- 18:14Speaker 6: don't have to be going out in public super often.
- 18:17Speaker 6: I can just drop them with my local postbox. But
- 18:20Speaker 6: I'm very excited to report I did a big drop
- 18:25Speaker 6: on the weekend with a heap of like new beauty.
- 18:27Speaker 3: Products that I was gaming this system, Jessica, are you?
- 18:33Speaker 6: I am currently sitting at a very tidy four hundred
- 18:36Speaker 6: and seventy five dollars for week two of lockdown, which
- 18:41Speaker 6: is really exciting. There's heaps of stuff, study so much
- 18:43Speaker 6: clothes makeup at Jessica Rokey's my deepop handle help a
- 18:47Speaker 6: girl out.
- 18:50Speaker 3: I calm it down.
- 18:52Speaker 5: If you've got to help me out. I'm at uber
- 18:53Speaker 5: eat Slash Ryan John, So I.
- 18:55Speaker 3: Just started I'm going to start charging you guys advertising fees.
- 18:59Speaker 6: I feel like being in lockdown has actually been really
- 19:02Speaker 6: good for me because I had already gone through and
- 19:04Speaker 6: cleared everything out, but because I've got nothing else to do.
- 19:07Speaker 3: I went through having your job.
- 19:09Speaker 6: Yeah, but like it's not like I'm commuting or I
- 19:12Speaker 6: have so much more time. And so I went through
- 19:15Speaker 6: my closet again, and I went through my house again,
- 19:17Speaker 6: and I was like, oh wow, like there's all this
- 19:19Speaker 6: stuff that I missed the first time around.
- 19:21Speaker 4: There anything left, Jess or are you just like sleeping
- 19:24Speaker 4: on a milk crate because you've.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Jess is just here naked.
- 19:32Speaker 6: I have nothing left, No, not at all. But yeah,
- 19:34Speaker 6: it's been really good, Tony. How are you going? Because
- 19:36Speaker 6: you picked arguably the hardest one.
- 19:40Speaker 4: So I committed to a no spend month for the
- 19:43Speaker 4: month of August. It's the thirteenth of August today, so
- 19:47Speaker 4: we're about halfway through.
- 19:48Speaker 1: It's actually going quite well.
- 19:50Speaker 4: And like Ryan said before, it just makes you so
- 19:53Speaker 4: much more mindful. So because in my mind I'm thinking, Okay,
- 19:56Speaker 4: I no, I can't spend any money. I'm actually not
- 19:59Speaker 4: just scrolling through online or seeing things on Instagram being like, oh, yeah,
- 20:03Speaker 4: I am going to click the shop now link, because
- 20:05Speaker 4: I'm like, oh, there's just no point. But I did
- 20:08Speaker 4: see this coat that I've had my eye on for
- 20:12Speaker 4: a while, which was one hundred and ninety dollars and
- 20:15Speaker 4: was down to ninety dollars the other day. I've had
- 20:19Speaker 4: my eye on it for a while, and I put
- 20:22Speaker 4: the ninety dollars into my nose spend month up saver,
- 20:27Speaker 4: so I didn't actually buy the coat.
- 20:28Speaker 1: I saved the.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Money self Control. Those c is.
- 20:34Speaker 5: An unofficial layby Oh maybe at Christmas.
- 20:41Speaker 4: It's just been really exciting actually, like seeing the changes
- 20:44Speaker 4: in my habits because of just and being in lockdown
- 20:48Speaker 4: as well has been like challenge mode for all of us.
- 20:52Speaker 3: But yeah, it's been really really good.
- 20:53Speaker 1: I'm really enjoying myself.
- 20:54Speaker 4: Except I did put something on my story the other
- 20:56Speaker 4: day about Dixie drumsticks coming back. My gosh, I don't know,
- 21:00Speaker 4: you guys remember those little crackers, And somebody from the
- 21:02Speaker 4: community messaged me and said, isn't it a.
- 21:04Speaker 1: No spend month.
- 21:05Speaker 4: That's food And I'll be buying the Dixie out of this.
- 21:14Speaker 3: Stop stop right there. You're going to hold back Dixie
- 21:17Speaker 3: sticks from a woman in lockdown?
- 21:19Speaker 1: Thank you?
- 21:20Speaker 3: I want world guys.
- 21:22Speaker 5: I like how you probably want to scold them, but like,
- 21:25Speaker 5: but thanks for listening.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Tony space guys. She looked like she was about to
- 21:34Speaker 3: cut someone.
- 21:36Speaker 4: Instead of me scolding people about my no spend month.
- 21:39Speaker 4: How are you going taking lunch to work, Victoria?
- 21:42Speaker 2: How working from home?
- 21:44Speaker 1: That feels like another loophole, you'd big brain.
- 21:48Speaker 3: I gamed the system. I am an official genius. I
- 21:53Speaker 3: cannot not have lunch at home now because we're in lockdown,
- 21:57Speaker 3: and as of Wednesday, lockdown got extended, so I'm not
- 22:02Speaker 3: even going to have the opportunity to slip out of this.
- 22:05Speaker 3: So yeah, exactly, I have been eating lunch at home.
- 22:08Speaker 3: I can happily report that I am not actually allergic
- 22:11Speaker 3: to any of the food in my fridge, which is
- 22:14Speaker 3: very good.
- 22:15Speaker 1: But that has not been my experience.
- 22:17Speaker 3: No, but that's okay because that's not your month. Like,
- 22:21Speaker 3: you can do what you want when it comes to food.
- 22:23Speaker 3: And I did buy a cheeky dress the other day,
- 22:25Speaker 3: so that's a bit of a money loss, but it's
- 22:28Speaker 3: really cute and it'll be good for work, and I
- 22:30Speaker 3: calculated my cost per ware Tony so that I'm is
- 22:34Speaker 3: that it all work. But on top of that, not
- 22:36Speaker 3: only did I wait literally a couple of weeks before
- 22:39Speaker 3: purchasing it, I also got some validation by sending a
- 22:43Speaker 3: picture to Jess and saying should I buy this? And
- 22:45Speaker 3: she said yes? So obviously if Jess yes, it's okay.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Yeah, Jess controls my finances as well.
- 22:51Speaker 3: I run a tight ship.
- 22:52Speaker 5: Can we do an episode VI a deep dive and
- 22:55Speaker 5: we'll call it Enablers?
- 22:57Speaker 3: Yes?
- 22:59Speaker 5: Who is that person in your life that lets you
- 23:01Speaker 5: do all the spending you don't need to do?
- 23:04Speaker 3: And this could like extrapolate out into an entire TV
- 23:08Speaker 3: series And instead of having a TV show called Say
- 23:11Speaker 3: Yes to the Dress, it's say Yes to Jess and
- 23:13Speaker 3: we can just ask Jess for permission to buy things
- 23:16Speaker 3: we don't need. Genius.
- 23:18Speaker 5: I like that. Will that be coming before after Jess's
- 23:21Speaker 5: Marketplace manifestations podcast and TV series?
- 23:24Speaker 3: I think it will probably come as a follow up,
- 23:27Speaker 3: but I'm also gonna spinnife. I'm also planning on pitching
- 23:31Speaker 3: to Channel nine the Stock It's like the Block, but
- 23:34Speaker 3: we build investment portfolios for people and we rate them
- 23:38Speaker 3: each week. And I'm hoping to get Scottie Cam.
- 23:40Speaker 6: Yeah, I love Scottie Cam.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Why did you pick Van Guardy?
- 23:47Speaker 1: Yes?
- 23:47Speaker 3: G what's going on there? Victoria? Only if he shows
- 23:50Speaker 3: up an his shorts and steel caps.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Tho talk about superannuation.
- 23:57Speaker 5: Again, dollars.
- 24:00Speaker 3: You know what, guys, I think we've done here. We
- 24:02Speaker 3: have done our August accountability check in and I think Jess,
- 24:06Speaker 3: with that, that is all we have time for today.
- 24:09Speaker 5: Yeah. V if you want to do the wrap up Tony,
- 24:11Speaker 5: if you say some other things, Jess, go get some
- 24:13Speaker 5: cold water for yourself made and just pour it all over. Yeah.
- 24:16Speaker 3: We'll get straight into that. But just before we head off,
- 24:18Speaker 3: we would like to acknowledge and pay respect to Australia's
- 24:21Speaker 3: Aboriginal and torrest Right islander peoples. They're the traditional custodians
- 24:25Speaker 3: of the lands, the waterways and the skies all across Australia.
- 24:29Speaker 3: We thank you for sharing and for caring for the
- 24:31Speaker 3: land in which we are able to learn. We pay
- 24:34Speaker 3: our respects to elders past and present, and we share
- 24:36Speaker 3: our friendship and our kindness.
- 24:39Speaker 1: The advice shared on She's on the Money is generally
- 24:41Speaker 1: nature and does.
- 24:42Speaker 4: Not consider your individual circumstances or accountability.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Augusts on the Money.
