- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Hello and welcome. She's on the Money, the podcast for
- 0:26Speaker 2: millennials who want financial freedom. Welcome back to another one
- 0:30Speaker 2: of our Friday Drinks episodes, where our team get together
- 0:33Speaker 2: every single week and have a drink and talk about
- 0:35Speaker 2: the successes of our community. This week, we had a
- 0:39Speaker 2: very exciting week. It was the start of accountability August
- 0:41Speaker 2: and we're going to dive into chatting about that because
- 0:43Speaker 2: I know Jess is super excited. I know you are.
- 0:47Speaker 2: You literally haven't stopped talking about it. But Tony, before
- 0:50Speaker 2: we do that, what happened in our money dirry this week?
- 0:53Speaker 3: Our money Diary this week was someone who is still
- 0:56Speaker 3: living at home and she acknowledged that she was very
- 0:58Speaker 3: lucky to do that and planned to backpack around Europe
- 1:03Speaker 3: over the last two years. But hashtag COVID so she's
- 1:05Speaker 3: got all this money saved, and she was like, you
- 1:07Speaker 3: know what, I really want to work for an agency,
- 1:09Speaker 3: a creative agency.
- 1:11Speaker 4: So she started one herself.
- 1:13Speaker 2: As you do, like as you do, you just I
- 1:16Speaker 2: want to work in that field.
- 1:17Speaker 5: I'm just do it.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Just create it problem solving.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Yeah, create our own opportunities and our money direst has
- 1:22Speaker 3: started that with a few friends, which is really really cool,
- 1:24Speaker 3: and it was nice hearing somebody you know killings.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I love that. She was like, oh no,
- 1:31Speaker 2: we just decided it was a good idea, so we
- 1:33Speaker 2: went for it. Yeah, Like it's creative. Like it's one
- 1:36Speaker 2: of those things where I think people always assume that
- 1:39Speaker 2: to start your own business you need a million years
- 1:41Speaker 2: of experience and then you dive out and do it.
- 1:44Speaker 2: But sometimes, especially in those creative fields, you can just say, well,
- 1:48Speaker 2: actually I'm a really creative person, or I'm really funny,
- 1:51Speaker 2: or I'm really talented, and you just start from the
- 1:53Speaker 2: bottom there. And I think that there's a lot of
- 1:55Speaker 2: merit to that as well.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Yeah, she's doing well, and don't you worry, Ryan. I
- 2:00Speaker 3: steid her right on over to the Business Bible. She
- 2:02Speaker 3: said she's listened to it to all the episodes.
- 2:05Speaker 4: Very exciting.
- 2:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:06Speaker 2: We tried to introduce it to her, but she was like, oh,
- 2:08Speaker 2: I can already do it for you, and we're like, oh, okay,
- 2:11Speaker 2: can we.
- 2:11Speaker 5: Help it all? Nah, Okay, thanks for your uch.
- 2:15Speaker 3: You guys some pointer as though.
- 2:18Speaker 2: All right, and Jess what happened in our deep dive
- 2:20Speaker 2: this week.
- 2:21Speaker 6: So on Wednesday, you and g spoke all about debt consolidation,
- 2:25Speaker 6: which I had a lot of fun with. Yeah, and
- 2:27Speaker 6: for those who don't know, debt consolidation is essentially when
- 2:29Speaker 6: you have a whole bunch of debts at different places,
- 2:31Speaker 6: or to different businesses or on different cards, you bundle
- 2:34Speaker 6: them all on up into one more manageable debt repayment.
- 2:38Speaker 2: However, clearly listened to the episode you no I did.
- 2:41Speaker 6: However, there are a whole bunch of different considerations that
- 2:44Speaker 6: you need to think about when you're doing that, because
- 2:46Speaker 6: you may have to declare bankruptcy or there are a
- 2:48Speaker 6: whole bunch of different things. And so you spoke about that,
- 2:51Speaker 6: the how, the why.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I mean, I'd say that you may have to declare
- 2:54Speaker 2: bankruptcy as maybe the most dramatic of those things that
- 2:58Speaker 2: you might have told. Okay, well that's your main takeaway,
- 3:03Speaker 2: but maybe maybe a little lighter. But in the next
- 3:06Speaker 2: few weeks, we're going to have an entire episode on
- 3:09Speaker 2: bankruptcy coming up. I think it'll be more of an
- 3:11Speaker 2: education piece than how.
- 3:13Speaker 6: To piece, and that'll be, I believe, in two weeks,
- 3:16Speaker 6: So stick around for that one.
- 3:17Speaker 2: If you're interested. I think it'll be really interesting to
- 3:19Speaker 2: learn about. Yeah, absolutely getting off bankruptcy, though, because it's
- 3:23Speaker 2: not this week's topic, Jessica, let's talk to Ryan, who
- 3:26Speaker 2: seems to be really impressed with the drink that we've got.
- 3:29Speaker 5: Well, we've got Brookvale Union vodka and peach iced tea.
- 3:32Speaker 2: How do we raid it? So stoked with this one.
- 3:34Speaker 5: Every one seems pretty tough with it. I like Brookvale
- 3:36Speaker 5: Union the brand because they make a ginger beer that
- 3:39Speaker 5: I like. So when I saw Brookvale Union come out,
- 3:40Speaker 5: they do a bunch of funky stuff. I know Tony's
- 3:42Speaker 5: over there nodding saying bad words that won't make the
- 3:44Speaker 5: on air edition of this podcast, I really like it.
- 3:48Speaker 4: I'm a big fan of iced tea full stop.
- 3:51Speaker 2: So yeah, I can definitely see this one over a
- 3:53Speaker 2: tall glass of ice in the middle of summer being
- 3:56Speaker 2: an absolute winner for sure.
- 3:58Speaker 5: As we're here in the first week of August.
- 3:59Speaker 2: And it's I'm planning for the future, guys, it's the future.
- 4:04Speaker 5: Me look in the head. We're feeling good.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Speaking of feeling good, can you run us through the
- 4:07Speaker 2: money wins of the week?
- 4:09Speaker 5: All right? Elna. Eleven months ago she hit her savings
- 4:12Speaker 5: goal of ten thousand dollars. As you said, I want
- 4:14Speaker 5: to buy a house. I'm setting some new goals. Eleven
- 4:17Speaker 5: months on from ten thousand, she now has thirty five.
- 4:23Speaker 5: That is really well done, Elena, she's saving for a house.
- 4:26Speaker 5: Hailey just reached. Now I think this might be a
- 4:28Speaker 5: she's on the money record, Hailey, I've just reached my
- 4:31Speaker 5: goal of an emergency fund of ten thousand dollars.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Wow, yes, Why is it a I don't think I've.
- 4:38Speaker 5: Heard I just most emergency funds, not that there's rules,
- 4:42Speaker 5: but like there are always like two grand five. I
- 4:44Speaker 5: don't think i've heard a ten grand emergency fund before.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I have make one in a while, but I feel
- 4:48Speaker 2: like that's a pretty solid number for a lot.
- 4:49Speaker 5: Of huge I'd feel very secure.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I hear that a lot in my budget and Cashley
- 4:54Speaker 2: master classes kind of like people feel really secure because
- 4:57Speaker 2: it's like the first number that's five figures. They're like, no,
- 5:01Speaker 2: if I've got five figures in the bank of mine,
- 5:03Speaker 2: And it definitely is a really confidence boosting piece but
- 5:07Speaker 2: maybe unrelatable for some, but like a massive goal for
- 5:10Speaker 2: her and just to know she's got that financial freedom,
- 5:14Speaker 2: I'm envious.
- 5:15Speaker 5: She said, though ten thousand is all I want for
- 5:17Speaker 5: my emergency fund, so all my savings from now on
- 5:20Speaker 5: to going straight into investments. That's awesome, Felicity, And can
- 5:25Speaker 5: I just say a silver lining, Felicity, just the great
- 5:28Speaker 5: mindset here, because not so fun Incydy at the moment
- 5:30Speaker 5: with lockdown. But Felicity says, not working as much because
- 5:34Speaker 5: of lockdown in Sydney. But I'm saving a fortune on
- 5:36Speaker 5: childcare fees because usually I'll be going to work and
- 5:39Speaker 5: they'll be paying all these fees. You're so expensive, too unbelievable,
- 5:43Speaker 5: like some people, I mean this episode on that people
- 5:46Speaker 5: go to work and end up earning ten bucks for
- 5:48Speaker 5: the day by the time they've paid for just break even.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I have colorful opinions on that. That's sometimes it's
- 5:53Speaker 2: worth still doing it even though you're taking home ten dollars.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Like I think we've covered it in a podcast. Don't
- 5:59Speaker 2: remember this rant, but I definitely believe in still going
- 6:02Speaker 2: to work even if you do come out with only
- 6:05Speaker 2: ten dollars in profit each week, because you know, obviously
- 6:08Speaker 2: childcare is expensive, but the benefit of staying in the
- 6:10Speaker 2: job market and keeping your skills relevant and keeping your
- 6:12Speaker 2: mental health in check for your confidence. Yeah, I think it's.
- 6:15Speaker 5: Really important just having adult conversations. Yeah, there's actually another
- 6:20Speaker 5: win related to that coming up, but Felicite said, double win.
- 6:23Speaker 5: I obviously get to spend more time with my little
- 6:25Speaker 5: ones because we're all home together during the day.
- 6:27Speaker 4: She's like, oh, by the way, also spending time with
- 6:29Speaker 4: my kids.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Way. I felt the same way in Lockdown with my cat.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I was going to say the same
- 6:35Speaker 2: thing about my dog, but I was like, oh, people
- 6:37Speaker 2: won't like me comparing it to a child, but there
- 6:39Speaker 2: are children on the jairs literally.
- 6:41Speaker 5: Now, Danika another silver lining story from what could have
- 6:45Speaker 5: been not such a great tale. She's just broken up
- 6:47Speaker 5: with her partner and the partners sorry.
- 6:49Speaker 4: About that, Danna Carr.
- 6:50Speaker 2: They were probably really sucky.
- 6:51Speaker 5: Anyway, I agree she's better off. She's won that one now,
- 6:54Speaker 5: she said. On the plus side, though, they contributed the
- 6:57Speaker 5: fridge to our relationship and I kept it.
- 7:01Speaker 4: That's good. I liked the.
- 7:03Speaker 5: Ultimate power move, she said. I didn't really need it,
- 7:05Speaker 5: so I sold it on the weekend on Facebook Marketplace
- 7:07Speaker 5: for one hundred and sixty dollars.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Thank you for the woman asked Jess as hush all right.
- 7:12Speaker 5: Mandy said she found some real Louis Batons in an
- 7:16Speaker 5: op shop in a small, tiny farm town in out
- 7:18Speaker 5: back West in Australia. Wow. Wow, between v and Jess,
- 7:21Speaker 5: who was our shoes correspondents, how much we looking at
- 7:27Speaker 5: for a pair of Louis Baton's Victoria Devine?
- 7:29Speaker 3: Oh?
- 7:29Speaker 2: Between eight hundred and twelve hundred dollars, I would say
- 7:31Speaker 2: on their preach.
- 7:32Speaker 5: Want to have a guess about the op shop in
- 7:34Speaker 5: this small, tiny farming town twelve dollars?
- 7:37Speaker 2: I'm going to say, do they know the value of it?
- 7:41Speaker 2: Hold on on inkling, do they think they like? Have
- 7:44Speaker 2: they priced it in line with the value or did
- 7:46Speaker 2: they just think there are another pair of op shop shoes.
- 7:48Speaker 5: As much as I'm proud of the research I do,
- 7:50Speaker 5: I didn't actually call the op shop just to get
- 7:52Speaker 5: five of what the owners?
- 7:53Speaker 2: No, no, no, not what they said. You're going to
- 7:54Speaker 2: know from the pricing that they knew what that item was,
- 7:57Speaker 2: or they the.
- 7:58Speaker 5: Person who bought it knew was worth a lot more.
- 7:59Speaker 5: Because she was bragging about it hard and she's on
- 8:01Speaker 5: the money Facebook group and put some photos in and
- 8:03Speaker 5: stuff as well.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I'm going to say thirty dollars the winner.
- 8:08Speaker 5: If my math is right, and I can't remember what
- 8:09Speaker 5: Jess said it she paid twenty dollars Jess as the winner. Well,
- 8:11Speaker 5: that's twenty dollars, twenty dollars as good as new for
- 8:15Speaker 5: brand new lue Baton's. That's crazy, Emily Jane. My parents
- 8:18Speaker 5: bought me a large pumpkin from their garden. How good
- 8:21Speaker 5: is that? When the parents stown up, I cut it,
- 8:22Speaker 5: boiled it, added garlic, cumin, salt, and some lemon, and
- 8:26Speaker 5: now I have one kilo of really yummy spice pumpkin dip.
- 8:29Speaker 5: It cost me thirty cents.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Oh my god, that's so cood. Pumpkin is delicious. Also,
- 8:34Speaker 2: being sent produce is literally the best thing, like when
- 8:37Speaker 2: people send you home with like lemons or I recently
- 8:40Speaker 2: raided one of my girlfriend's gardens. She has this massive
- 8:43Speaker 2: rosemarine bush and I was just like, I'm gonna do
- 8:44Speaker 2: a little bit of clipping before I leave.
- 8:46Speaker 5: Thank you, well played. Thirty cents in total, Jamie, I
- 8:50Speaker 5: needed to restock my expensive foundation, which was going to
- 8:53Speaker 5: be about sixty bucks plus twelve dollars shipping from Sephora.
- 8:56Speaker 5: The worst. Yeah, sounds awful. I mean like expensive off.
- 9:00Speaker 5: It sounds off. I mean, if you're not getting your
- 9:02Speaker 5: moisturizer from coals and paying a couple of dollars, you're
- 9:04Speaker 5: doing it right roundation.
- 9:05Speaker 2: It's not moisturizer, yeah, different, But how much would you
- 9:09Speaker 2: spend on skincare?
- 9:11Speaker 5: Well? I used to have that subscription with Lumen, remember, yeah,
- 9:13Speaker 5: that's right. That was I was building up to the wedding,
- 9:15Speaker 5: trying to like freshen up a little bit out. And
- 9:18Speaker 5: then I tried to cancel the subscription, as I've vented
- 9:20Speaker 5: many times about this exact story, and they made me
- 9:22Speaker 5: click a button and said, yes, I do hate my
- 9:24Speaker 5: skin and I don't want the subscription anymore.
- 9:26Speaker 4: What triggering bullying?
- 9:28Speaker 5: I think that was thirty five a month for three
- 9:30Speaker 5: different things. It was like a charcoal paste and a
- 9:31Speaker 5: moisturiza something actually guys beauty product compared to female the
- 9:36Speaker 5: price for the exact same product.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Pink tax really hate it all right.
- 9:40Speaker 5: So she found out that to four I was having
- 9:42Speaker 5: twenty percent off plus free shipping, which brought it down
- 9:44Speaker 5: to forty eight, but then shot back had an upsized
- 9:47Speaker 5: cash back of twenty five percent thirty six dollars. Then
- 9:51Speaker 5: it got even better because shot Back a giving bonus
- 9:54Speaker 5: mystery cash back if you download the browser extension. I
- 9:57Speaker 5: don't even know what that means. So after all, from
- 10:01Speaker 5: seventy two dollars originally just twenty eight dollars for Jamie
- 10:05Speaker 5: for the month.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Jamie, You're welcome our friends at shot Back. We'll love
- 10:08Speaker 2: hearing that story.
- 10:09Speaker 6: I think if you don't get the emails, you're like
- 10:12Speaker 6: not to be like sign up for the emails.
- 10:13Speaker 2: But I love them.
- 10:14Speaker 6: Because they do those super cash backs and I love
- 10:16Speaker 6: the iconic and I always get stuff when it's like
- 10:19Speaker 6: twenty percent cash back, and when you're buying a hundred
- 10:21Speaker 6: dollar dress, like that's a lot of money.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Yeah, this is why she didn't do the accountability August.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I'm hearing it.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Yeah, your office to live recent.
- 10:31Speaker 5: Tests about now, these could be some awkward conversations to have,
- 10:35Speaker 5: but I feel like there's some great results out of
- 10:36Speaker 5: New Zealand. Here Kaylee has sat down with her husband
- 10:39Speaker 5: to discuss their finances because congratulations, Kaylee, she's about to
- 10:43Speaker 5: have a baby. So the husband is going to contribute
- 10:48Speaker 5: to her Kiwi Saver, which is the same as superannuation.
- 10:51Speaker 5: You get a girl while she's not working. So she's like,
- 10:53Speaker 5: you know, you're not working on that topy of so
- 10:55Speaker 5: he's going to pay that and there's also some tax
- 10:57Speaker 5: advantages if he's putting more in all that kind of thing,
- 11:00Speaker 5: so she's not disadvantaged. She also has one placement left
- 11:04Speaker 5: to complete her UNI degree. I don't know if it's nursing,
- 11:06Speaker 5: but I just always assume nursing teaching. Yeah, something like that.
- 11:11Speaker 5: So she said, when I'm back on my feet after
- 11:13Speaker 5: the baby, and we're not putting time pressure, but eventually
- 11:15Speaker 5: I just need to knock this last little thing off
- 11:17Speaker 5: and then I'm qualified. So her husband went into his
- 11:20Speaker 5: workplace and he has negotiated a combination of paternity leave
- 11:25Speaker 5: and you'll leave and leave without pay, So he's going
- 11:28Speaker 5: to stay home with the baby so she can go
- 11:29Speaker 5: and do her prack so she doesn't have to fall
- 11:31Speaker 5: behind with her career. A king.
- 11:36Speaker 4: Yeah, just a money win, a life win.
- 11:40Speaker 3: That sounds like a really great partitiation a win for
- 11:43Speaker 3: equality and like.
- 11:44Speaker 5: You're saying before, of course it's in New Zealand.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Though they also have Cindadn Pavlova, They've got all the
- 11:50Speaker 2: good things. Is this as ses he's at.
- 11:55Speaker 5: But as you're saying before the so many people put
- 11:58Speaker 5: their careers on hold for so long, and they gets
- 12:00Speaker 5: about going back, the fact that she's going to keep
- 12:01Speaker 5: chipping way, and the fact they haven't even had the
- 12:03Speaker 5: baby yet and they're having the chat beforehand. I guess
- 12:06Speaker 5: a lot of people the babies three months old and
- 12:08Speaker 5: they're like, oh, we probably should have thought about this,
- 12:10Speaker 5: and and like, so great work for being ahead. But
- 12:12Speaker 5: this is my favorite money wind of the week.
- 12:14Speaker 2: That wasn't your favorite. No, okay, share share go Oh.
- 12:18Speaker 4: It better not be another big pumpkin.
- 12:20Speaker 5: I might include pumpkin. Beck said it was my birthday
- 12:22Speaker 5: this week and I got a free pizza from Crust
- 12:24Speaker 5: the World.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, Jess, we are back, and I'm going
- 12:32Speaker 2: to throw to you in a hot second about accountability August.
- 12:35Speaker 2: But for those of you who haven't heard about it yet,
- 12:37Speaker 2: we are running an accountability challenge in our community this
- 12:41Speaker 2: month to keep us accountable for the goals that we're
- 12:43Speaker 2: setting for ourselves. So the team have all set different
- 12:46Speaker 2: goals for themselves, because obviously, if you don't drink coffee,
- 12:49Speaker 2: it seems silly to say, oh, this month, I'm not
- 12:50Speaker 2: going to drink takeaway coffee. Jess has already won that
- 12:56Speaker 2: because she doesn't drink coffee. But it's been going really
- 12:59Speaker 2: well well and Jess, you're really excited about it, So
- 13:01Speaker 2: why don't you tell everybody this week's update. So it
- 13:05Speaker 2: has been so much fun.
- 13:06Speaker 6: We have a really fun template on our stories that
- 13:09Speaker 6: people have been filling out to set their goals for themselves.
- 13:11Speaker 2: And it's real cute. It's really fun and it's so cool.
- 13:14Speaker 6: On our first check in that we posted on Facebook,
- 13:17Speaker 6: we had a bunch of people being like, oh my gosh,
- 13:18Speaker 6: I'm Team Tony, I'm doing the same challenge as you.
- 13:21Speaker 6: I'm tem Ryan. So it's so fun to be doing
- 13:23Speaker 6: this with you guys and literally like helping each other
- 13:26Speaker 6: out and sharing tips. My goal this month was that
- 13:29Speaker 6: I wanted to side hustle up an extra five hundred dollars,
- 13:32Speaker 6: which was very ambitious.
- 13:34Speaker 2: By sealing, you're going to do well, though, I hope so.
- 13:37Speaker 6: By selling things that I already have in the house,
- 13:40Speaker 6: clothes and just other bits and pieces that have accumulated,
- 13:43Speaker 6: and I'm a tenth of the way there, I've made
- 13:45Speaker 6: forty five dollars, so.
- 13:48Speaker 2: It's only the start of August. Very true, which is
- 13:51Speaker 2: very exciting. And it's not even the weekend yet, and
- 13:53Speaker 2: I'm assuming that's when most of your sales happen, because
- 13:56Speaker 2: hopap's when you get to post your stuff. Yeah, exactly right.
- 13:59Speaker 6: But that is of course just me and everybody's been
- 14:02Speaker 6: checking in with us on Facebook. Ryan, have you been
- 14:04Speaker 6: having a squizet loose?
- 14:05Speaker 5: So this is we know he has a big squizze
- 14:09Speaker 5: and there's some great ideas in there as well. By
- 14:11Speaker 5: the way, Amy said, I'm not going to drive to work.
- 14:15Speaker 5: I'm going to walk to work. She said, I don't
- 14:19Speaker 5: live that far away. Parking is a bit expensive, and
- 14:21Speaker 5: then obviously petrol and all that kind of things. And
- 14:23Speaker 5: she also said, as much as it's a money challenge
- 14:26Speaker 5: for her, the sustainability of it not putting anymore. So
- 14:29Speaker 5: she's going to walk every time she's got a shift
- 14:31Speaker 5: for the whole month of August. Huge good so good.
- 14:36Speaker 6: For her fitness too. You'll feel great after this mental health.
- 14:39Speaker 6: I love how I feel after I go for a walk.
- 14:41Speaker 5: Well, I've started walking to work because I don't have
- 14:43Speaker 5: a car. Different it actually does you get to work
- 14:48Speaker 5: and you're a bit more refreshed and you've got some fresh.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Air and you don't just like your blood's pumping.
- 14:54Speaker 5: I'm liking it. So good luck Amy with that.
- 14:55Speaker 2: I won't be doing that though, so good luck.
- 14:58Speaker 5: Now. Casey said she's going to go meet free for
- 15:01Speaker 5: a month.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Oh I love that.
- 15:03Speaker 3: That's a good challenge meat as well as the v's
- 15:07Speaker 3: up to her thirtieth year.
- 15:10Speaker 2: But no, not even it's like thirtieth month. Maybe I
- 15:13Speaker 2: haven't always been meat for it, really, no, no, no,
- 15:15Speaker 2: I just haven't loved it, and then I cut it
- 15:17Speaker 2: out completely.
- 15:18Speaker 5: She's gone full meal prep and has already made four
- 15:21Speaker 5: yummy meals with lentils and done a vegetarian lasagna and
- 15:24Speaker 5: stuff like that. So as much as the health benefits
- 15:27Speaker 5: like expensive.
- 15:29Speaker 2: And darl is so yummy, obviously biased, but Darhl is
- 15:33Speaker 2: so yummy and so cheap to make, because you can
- 15:36Speaker 2: buy dried lentils for next to nothing and then make
- 15:39Speaker 2: a really yummy doll that you can take to work
- 15:41Speaker 2: and you can have for dinner. And it's just stretches
- 15:44Speaker 2: so far. I'm always so impressed when I make one,
- 15:46Speaker 2: and then I keep telling myself I'll make it again,
- 15:48Speaker 2: and then it's like three months before I make it.
- 15:52Speaker 5: And just lots of people we're going to follow you
- 15:54Speaker 5: in and say I'm also going to try and flip
- 15:56Speaker 5: some stuff online. A Rose said that she is trying
- 16:00Speaker 5: to fill up her emergency fund with stuff from around
- 16:03Speaker 5: the house onto her And finally Kate said she said,
- 16:06Speaker 5: it's tough for me. Guys, no after pay for August.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Yes, and hopefully that continues into the rest of your life.
- 16:13Speaker 6: We have strong thoughts on this as everybody, so I
- 16:16Speaker 6: am in full support.
- 16:17Speaker 5: Well, after pay was purchased by the guy that owns
- 16:20Speaker 5: Twitter for thirty nine billion. During the week after he
- 16:22Speaker 5: hears the news about Kate quitting, you reconsider.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Yeah, no, Kate, Kate, you need to actually hold off
- 16:29Speaker 2: on quitting because that was actually a very.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Part of the deal.
- 16:33Speaker 2: But like everybody's celebrating how impressive that he is in
- 16:36Speaker 2: all I see is men getting rich off financial disadvantage
- 16:39Speaker 2: of women. But whatever and what he's calling that out.
- 16:42Speaker 5: Lots of people on a group have made a full
- 16:44Speaker 5: stack as well. My favorite story from last year was
- 16:46Speaker 5: the girl who said, all the money I've wasted on
- 16:48Speaker 5: after pay I earned back by investing in after pay
- 16:50Speaker 5: and I used the profits.
- 16:53Speaker 2: So I love that that is big brain. She gained
- 16:57Speaker 2: the system.
- 16:59Speaker 4: How are you going, Ryan with no Uber eats?
- 17:01Speaker 5: All right? So here I have a question for the team.
- 17:05Speaker 2: He's going to try and palm it off by not
- 17:06Speaker 2: answering the question directly to make a good politician.
- 17:10Speaker 5: I have not used uber eats.
- 17:12Speaker 2: How downloaded door Dash?
- 17:13Speaker 5: My question is, where's the legality of getting the same food.
- 17:17Speaker 6: Via a different Someone commented on the thread and was like, Ryan,
- 17:21Speaker 6: I hope that you know that door dash and delivery
- 17:24Speaker 6: and everything else also counts.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Okay, Well if.
- 17:27Speaker 5: I haven't used any of those, but I went directly
- 17:30Speaker 5: to my favorite pizza place.
- 17:31Speaker 2: You ordered take away that's still not.
- 17:34Speaker 5: On but I got it from the place. What if
- 17:36Speaker 5: I drink have a drink at the venue while I'm
- 17:38Speaker 5: picking it up. That's our favorite thing to do.
- 17:40Speaker 2: I don't care if it's your favorite thing to do.
- 17:42Speaker 2: You committed. Wait, the distinction here is did you go
- 17:48Speaker 2: to pick up the food?
- 17:49Speaker 5: I did?
- 17:50Speaker 2: Well, then I would I think there's Jessica. I mean
- 17:53Speaker 2: you still had.
- 17:56Speaker 5: But I had it there Sometimes.
- 17:58Speaker 2: I mean, if you've gone out for dinner, which is
- 18:01Speaker 2: what you said, because you guys go and have a wine, right,
- 18:03Speaker 2: and you have a wine and then you pick up
- 18:05Speaker 2: your pizza. I'm assuming that's the story. Yeah, creature of habit,
- 18:08Speaker 2: But I think it's a different story than ordering uber
- 18:11Speaker 2: eats because uber eats is a convenience thing. There was
- 18:14Speaker 2: no convenience.
- 18:14Speaker 5: It was not convenient. I was forced to go to
- 18:16Speaker 5: a bar and have a drink.
- 18:17Speaker 2: And very tough for ryan guys.
- 18:21Speaker 5: How can you get through the day?
- 18:22Speaker 2: It's so funny, will be in.
- 18:25Speaker 6: It's also better for the business because the money. I'm
- 18:27Speaker 6: pretty sure Uberts takes a pretty big cut.
- 18:30Speaker 2: It's very hefty.
- 18:31Speaker 6: So if you're going direct to them, I also feel
- 18:33Speaker 6: like you're supporting.
- 18:34Speaker 5: Your local just a man of the people supporting small visits.
- 18:38Speaker 2: We will never be as good as your Tony Lodge.
- 18:44Speaker 2: How are you going with your challenge?
- 18:46Speaker 3: So I decided that for the month of August, I
- 18:49Speaker 3: wouldn't do any discretionary spending. So basically no spending except
- 18:54Speaker 3: for obviously rent and all of those things.
- 18:57Speaker 4: And I've quickly realized how long a month is.
- 19:02Speaker 3: It's now the sixth of August, so I I've got
- 19:08Speaker 3: a bit of a query about it.
- 19:09Speaker 4: So I booked in dinner with a friend for tonight actually, and.
- 19:13Speaker 3: I thought like weeks ago before. Yeah, And then I'm like, oh,
- 19:18Speaker 3: does that count because it's technically you know, I think it.
- 19:20Speaker 2: I think it doesn't count because it was pre planned,
- 19:24Speaker 2: but also bad or am I just giving you a
- 19:26Speaker 2: get out of jail free card? I think I know that.
- 19:28Speaker 2: I'm about to tell you.
- 19:29Speaker 5: I will DOATS for two weeks in advance.
- 19:35Speaker 3: I wonder because it's mindful, Like I'm not you know,
- 19:38Speaker 3: sitting on my phone and ordering clothes or whatever. I'm
- 19:41Speaker 3: you know, actually going out, not ordering a breach, which
- 19:43Speaker 3: is what normally my boyfriend and I would do. But
- 19:46Speaker 3: we're going out, We're doing something, and it's a bit
- 19:48Speaker 3: you know.
- 19:48Speaker 2: There's a bit of a real bending.
- 19:51Speaker 3: So but and that's fine. But what I would like
- 19:53Speaker 3: to say is that anybody that is in this no
- 19:55Speaker 3: discretionary spending boat, it's okay if you make a mistake.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to ask you next week how how
- 20:06Speaker 2: big that financial mistake?
- 20:08Speaker 4: Well, don't ask me then, because I've also got a hair.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Well in that case, maybe we segue on to me.
- 20:14Speaker 2: And I'm in the same boat. So I'm glad that
- 20:16Speaker 2: you said that mistakes are acceptable because on Monday, which
- 20:19Speaker 2: was my first day in the office that was August
- 20:23Speaker 2: and taking my lunch to work, which is the goal
- 20:25Speaker 2: I set for myself, I forgot my lunch to buy it.
- 20:29Speaker 5: So you didn't last a single day.
- 20:31Speaker 2: No, but like the intention was there and I had
- 20:35Speaker 2: all ryan.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Now, but I came to the pizza place wasn't okay.
- 20:42Speaker 2: So at least I'm not trying to twist it into
- 20:44Speaker 2: something else Tony Lodge and being like, oh, I.
- 20:46Speaker 4: Don't know if it.
- 20:49Speaker 5: Can.
- 20:49Speaker 2: I just say I feel like Also, I tried to
- 20:52Speaker 2: lie about it and I got caught.
- 20:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:53Speaker 2: I literally found her bag and did you get lunch
- 20:55Speaker 2: this week? And she was like no, And then she's like,
- 20:59Speaker 2: did you have sushi?
- 21:00Speaker 6: You know that maybe?
- 21:01Speaker 3: Well she called me that night on Monday night and
- 21:03Speaker 3: I said, oh, did you bring lunch to work today?
- 21:06Speaker 4: And she said, and I said, did you.
- 21:10Speaker 5: Go to sushi Harp And she went no, handbag, Yes,
- 21:14Speaker 5: a new brand called Sombrero.
- 21:17Speaker 2: That's literally me that I did have some veggie sushi
- 21:21Speaker 2: and it was very good, I'll have you know. According
- 21:23Speaker 2: to Charlotte who's on our team, it's actually the best
- 21:26Speaker 2: sushi in Melbourne. It's got a massive call for tigaway sushi.
- 21:31Speaker 6: I do just want to say anybody who is doing
- 21:33Speaker 6: accountability always, as you've probably picked up, we're human beings
- 21:36Speaker 6: and you are too. And I feel like something that's
- 21:38Speaker 6: really important when you set goals is to not beat
- 21:41Speaker 6: yourself up or hold yourself down if you slip back
- 21:44Speaker 6: a little bit. That's not what this challenge is about,
- 21:47Speaker 6: Like as you were saying, Tony, it's very much about
- 21:49Speaker 6: being mindful of what you're doing, coming back on things
- 21:52Speaker 6: that you maybe were doing a bit excessively like all
- 21:55Speaker 6: of us. And so you know, if sometimes something comes
- 21:58Speaker 6: up and you're like, actually, like that fits into what
- 22:00Speaker 6: I want to do and for my lifestyle right now,
- 22:02Speaker 6: and I'm okay with that, that is so fine. Like
- 22:05Speaker 6: we're not here to be like you're the worst because
- 22:07Speaker 6: you bought sushi, live your life. We're just trying to
- 22:11Speaker 6: like be our best selves for this month. Oh just
- 22:13Speaker 6: you beautiful inspiration, beautiful stuff.
- 22:18Speaker 2: That's different.
- 22:19Speaker 5: Yeah, that's good for you.
- 22:20Speaker 2: That's unusual.
- 22:21Speaker 4: Well I'm not allowed to buy any new compliments. So
- 22:24Speaker 4: well in that.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Case, Tony, I think that's all we have time for tooray.
- 22:28Speaker 2: But just before we head off, we'd like to acknowledge
- 22:30Speaker 2: and pay respect to Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander
