Emergency responders headed over to the Brentwood home of Rob

Reiner and Michelle Singer Reiner.

Of course, the Hollywood legends, the icons that are the

Reiners, for the report of a dead body.

When they got there, they found Mr. Reiner and later Missus

Reiner and police were called to the scene.

And thus began the investigation into the unexpected death of the

Reiners. Now their son, 32 year old Nick

was arrested not too much longer later a few hours later, about

9:00 9/30 that night in Exposition Park near USC, where

he seemed to just kind of be wandering around.

He checked into a hotel down in Santa Monica, but they quickly

charged him with the murder of his parents.

And he was supposed to have an arraignment, but that

arraignment was postponed until January 7th, which will be

He's famous, of course, for the Karen Reed case, which in my

opinion, evidence against her was overwhelming and Alan put

his talents on full display for the whole country to see, Murphy

said. I think that many of us would

disagree with with the characterization about the

evidence, but OK, I mean you, you're welcome to your opinion,

Karen Reed, who was accused of hitting her boyfriend, Boston

police officer John O'Keefe, with her car and leaving him to

die during a snowstorm. She maintained, excuse me, her

innocence throughout 2 criminal trials, the first trial ending

in a hung jury before ultimately being found not guilty of murder

and manslaughter in the 2nd. And I think if you guys

remember, they they added another option for the jury to

choose so that they could feel like, and I think this is good

lawyering. So they could feel like, oh,

they got her on something drunk driving, right?

Murphy explained that given Jackson's skill in his talent,

he, as they say, ain't cheap, but said Nick likely has access

to money somewhere, Which is a question that you all have asked

But I imagine that his family is footing the bill for his

defense. And by family, I would say that

money originated from his father and mother, his alleged victims,

lawyers who are familiar with murder cases learn that the

This is something that we saw on Brian Enten's show where he

actually showed Alan Jackson going to the Brentwood home of

that's in good form, right? Get to the crime scene,

understand the crime scene. Because you know, with, with

photography, it's kind of tough. I mean, you can figure it out,

especially, especially with lots of experience.

But if you can be in the space, you can see the space and see

where things are, see where the bodies were, it's a it's a good

idea to be there. Seeing the crime scene in person

gives lawyers, quote, a visceral sense of what happened there,

Mr. Murphy thinks not so. He's there to see it, to feel

lawyer. Murphy predicts that due to the

nature of the case, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan

Hochman will likely not seek the death penalty.

Explained that when he used to sit on a committee in Orange

County that decided whether a case should be viewed as a death

penalty case, they recommended death in less than 4% of all

cases that came before us with special circumstances, adding

that they're even stingier traditionally in Los Angeles.

So the likelihood is against the DP, according to Mr. Murphy.

The special circumstances, of course, is because it happened

with a knife. That was the special

circumstance continuing for Mr. Murphy.

This is intra family. This is what's known as

parasite, where somebody kills their parents and these intra

family things, especially when they're sort of the stubborn,

tragic use of drugs or mental illness.

this might work well in Mr. Jackson's favor, right?

I mean, the Karen Reed case that was that was a tricky case where

he where he secured an acquittal.

I'm not going to go as far as Mr. Murphy is to say that the

evidence was piled against Karen Reed because I mean, we don't

need to re litigate that. But anyway, it did take skill

and talent by Mr. Jackson. Maybe an insanity defense is

going to play into his skill. Remember the insanity defense?

The burden shifts from the prosecution to the defense.

Instead of the prosecution having to prove all of the

components of murder beyond a reasonable doubt, the defense

must prove that he was legally insane beyond a preponderance of
