- Jessica Figueroa: Good morning. It's another morning here together in the Just For Today podcast studio. And today we are going to think about legacy. And what does legacy mean? Legacy is something that we are going to leave. It's something left way beyond a person being there. We have our time here on earth, whether that's 20, 30, 40, 50, 90 years, but you have a legacy that will be here after you leave. Eventually, most of us will be completely forgotten. But in the meantime, your legacy will last at least a generation or two, right? At least a generation. Some last for thousands of years, but most our people are completely forgotten. For example, how many presidents of the United States can you name? Probably not many. And that's the highest position in our land. So eventually we are all forgotten, which is okay because we're not forgotten by the one who created us and never forgotten by him. But you do have a legacy for one, two, or three generations after you're gone that you will leave. And are you thinking about that? Are you thinking about the legacy you're gonna leave? I know one time I was helping a real estate client look for a house and they really wanted a house with mature trees, like really old mature trees. And they had an idea of what they wanted in house, but they also wanted mature trees. And we kept looking, we kept looking, we couldn't find exactly what they were looking for. Finally, we found the perfect house. It was everything they wanted, but it didn't have mature trees. And they were like, no, we don't want it. And I'm like, but you can plant trees. And they said, well, but the trees we want will take 20 or 30 years to grow. And then I said, but what if the trees you're planting now help the person that has the house 20 or 30 years from now, if that's not you? And don't you wish someone at this perfect house for you would have planted those trees 20 or 30 years ago for you here today? So we want to operate our lives with a legacy mindset to honor the people before us who have thought of us. and to honor the people coming after us. So what are you doing today to leave a legacy? I have these mango trees in my backyard that I inherited when I moved into this home. And I learned through this process that mango trees can take eight to ten years before they produce fruit. So now every summer I'm picking and eating these beautiful mangoes because someone else 12 years ago planted mango trees. So what do you need to do, what trees do you need to plant in your life now that are going to leave a legacy down the road? Is it education for your children or for yourself? Educating yourself? Is it savings? Is it not leaving debt for the next generation? Is it helping people? Is it planting trees? Is it going around and helping the youth with ⁓ faith, volunteering in a midweek church program somewhere and being a part of the next generation of faith? What do you need to do to plant those trees so that people after you're gone can benefit from the legacy you leave? So just for today. We're gonna have a legacy mindset and think what we can be doing to leave a legacy in our path. Just for today, I'll see you guys tomorrow.
