- 0:00I was talking to a buddy of mine that I went when I worked at the LAPD with yesterday and he was going around about having a relative of his that's overweight wants to get in the militaries in his mid 20s and he wondered if I could talk to him and I said absolutely I'd be more than happy to some of the questions surrounding what even he was asking with regard to fasting I thought were interesting and I guess remembering back when I first started that process I had to get a lot of those questions answered myself because I remember growing up and everybody saying wow if you miss a meal your metabolism is gonna go down unless you're eating six or eight times a day your metabolism is gonna go down so that was a big part of the process of wanting to eat all the time like cattle do continually grazing all day long not realizing that action is actually detrimental to our health and yes you will put on weight because you have that insulin and it is the storage hormone and it's gonna be incredibly active during the entire day as long as you're feeding so you got to give your body a break and one of the things I was telling him it's incredible the way that I used to think about it versus today where you would have your metabolism actually decrease when you're starving you're not eating in the case of caloric restriction whenever you're cutting calories whenever you're taking the caloric content down to a very low level below your typical baseline of where your typical maintenance would be which is somewhere in the neighborhood of 2000 25 3,000 calories depending on age muscle mass activity level those sorts of things they impact that but let's just say 2,000 calories a day let's say you cut that down to 1,000 a day you're hungry all the time of course you're probably in a bad mood but it works right you're trying to cut those calories and do the right thing so over time you lose weight what happens well your body reduces its metabolism to get very close to that figure so then after you've given up just like I have many many times and you start eating somewhat normally again then you put on even more weight it doesn't even make sense but that's the way that process works in addition with that type of eating if you're still eating carbohydrates more than likely you're never giving your body access to the stored body fat stored energy on your system I explained to him I said the only way to really get in there is a couple ways you can do it with a ketogenic diet so basically you're not eating carbohydrates or sugars you're keeping that super low less than 20 grams a day typically and that'll get you into that fat burning state or you can go without eating because if you can ride out those little waves of hunger they're gonna hit two or three times a day or when you normally eat you're gonna be able to be good and you'll drop quite a bit of weight really really quickly and it is healthy ask your doctor's opinion I'm Connor with honor we'll see you in the next one
