- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, Demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Adam Smith in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi. It's Adam here now.
- 0:41This is a hypnosis session that uses a protocol and modality
- 0:46that is normally done person to person, and it's designed to
- 0:52release the somatic feeling of emotion.
- 0:56And I was working with a client that had a severe feeling of
- 1:01anxiety when it came to driving. But what's interesting is that
- 1:06when they would attempt to drive, they had a feeling of
- 1:09some stroke, this kind of feeling of dizziness, of
- 1:12heaviness, of fatigue, real physical sensations.
- 1:17And they also felt sick. They felt unwell.
- 1:21Now these were feelings locked inside the body.
- 1:23So this uses a protocol called Kinetic shift.
- 1:28Kinetic Shift was created by Karl Smith.
- 1:32Karl Smith is AUK based trainer. I've.
- 1:36Seen Karl many times at various hypnotherapy conferences and
- 1:40normally he will actually do this physically.
- 1:43He'll get them to kind of point to where they feel the sensation
- 1:46in their body. This client was over Zoom so it
- 1:50uses a metaphor. 2 metaphors in fact, about releasing pressure
- 1:56and releasing tension, but also submodalities with this idea of
- 2:01it leaves the body and then an element of future pacing so they
- 2:06can imagine what they are then capable of doing once they've.
- 2:09Released this. Now the essence of kinetic shift
- 2:12is to release an internal somatic feeling within the body
- 2:17and to dissipate that. So it's going to be more useful
- 2:20if you can feel anxiety or if you can feel stress or if you
- 2:25can feel overwhelmed. And it works really well in
- 2:28those kind of contexts. And if you like the idea of
- 2:32learning more about it, just Google kind of kind of shift and
- 2:35you're going to learn find lots more information about this
- 2:37protocol. For now, though, you might get
- 2:40some value from this session, but be aware of two things.
- 2:43One, the issue related to the client was driving anxiety and
- 2:47their physical sensations may not be your physical sensations.
- 2:51So you might get some inspiration from this.
- 2:54But if you like the idea of a bespoke session, just.
- 2:58For you just. To release any of these
- 3:00intrinsic emotions or sensations and let them go, there will be a
- 3:04link in the show notes where you can find out more information
- 3:07about working with me. For now though, find a quiet,
- 3:11comfortable place where you won't be distracted or
- 3:13disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 3:34Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 3:42resourceful feeling of calm and relaxation.
- 3:47And as you exhale, just allow your eyes to close.
- 3:53That's right, and with your eyes closed, you can focus more on
- 4:00the sound of my voice and the rhythm of your breathing.
- 4:08And just imagine breathing in relaxation and exhaling tension.
- 4:17Each breath allows you to drift deeper and deeper.
- 4:25Relaxed. And as you breathe in and
- 4:31breathe out, scan your body for any clues of pressure, tension,
- 4:39stress, overwhelm, and give permission to allow that to be
- 4:48released when it's ready. And I want you to imagine,
- 4:59imagine they're on a beach, a large bucket.
- 5:04And just imagine that large bucket is empty.
- 5:12And if you were collecting shells, it's got plenty of space
- 5:19for one more shell. You could have 100 more shells
- 5:25and there would still be enough space.
- 5:31But what if that bucket was never emptied and it accumulated
- 5:40with more stones and more shells, and then more, and then
- 5:45more? And I want you to imagine that
- 5:48bucket filled to the top. So much so that even just one
- 5:57more shell would just fall off the bucket back to the shore.
- 6:07And I want you to get a sand then.
- 6:12The bucket is the capacity to handle life.
- 6:20If the bucket is full, even 1 shell can be overwhelming.
- 6:29But what if the bucket was emptied suddenly?
- 6:35What was challenging in one moment would be more than
- 6:41capable in another. And I want you to get a sense
- 6:47that you've gone through a lot over these last few years, that
- 6:56your capacity has been huge. And the evidence of that is what
- 7:03you've achieved in life. Your capacity was a very large
- 7:09bucket, but sometimes the bucket fills up a health scare, a
- 7:21limitation, a challenge, and sometimes these things feed on
- 7:29each other. Worrying about one thing
- 7:37colliding with the limitation somewhere else can mean that
- 7:42that bucket that was more than spacious enough to handle life
- 7:49starts to get close to the brim. And I want you to imagine seeing
- 7:58they're on that same beach, a big hydraulic steam engine.
- 8:09Think of it as a giant pressure cooker there on the beach.
- 8:15And I want you to see a dial, the kind of dial that has one of
- 8:21those needles that kind of moves up and down.
- 8:30And I want you to see that it has a gauge, a Green Zone, an
- 8:36amber zone, and a red zone. And for most of your life, that
- 8:45needle was stable there in the Green Zone.
- 8:52But life is never easy. It has some surprises,
- 9:04challenges, difficulties, adversity.
- 9:13And you know that because something that was easy and
- 9:17straightforward in your 20s and 30s seemed to be more
- 9:24challenging in more recent years.
- 9:30Not because you forgot how to do something, but because the
- 9:39pressure cooker was building up the pressure.
- 9:44And sometimes a thought about what you can or can't do, a
- 9:52worry of an emotional state in the worst possible place, can
- 9:58pile in the pressure to something already growing in
- 10:02pressure. And I want you to see that for
- 10:08valid reasons, nothing irrational, that pressure cooker
- 10:16has been building and building until you see it hovering there
- 10:21in the red zone, not every day. Sometimes it's amber, sometimes
- 10:26it's green, but it can get to that red zone.
- 10:29And when it does, you feel it. You feel it in your head, the
- 10:36back of your neck. You feel drained and woozy.
- 10:42And as you look at this bucket filled with stones and shells,
- 10:48full to the brim, and you see this pressure cooker there in
- 10:53the red zone, I want you to stare at these.
- 11:00And I want you to try and locate that feeling, a feeling of
- 11:05overwhelm, of pressure, of stress.
- 11:13Feel it in your body, maybe in your head, back of your neck,
- 11:21feel it in your body. And what we're going to do is
- 11:26we're going to release not your capabilities or your capacity,
- 11:35but release the excess pressure. But for now, let's amplify it.
- 11:45Sometimes. Sometimes it's good to amplify
- 11:54so that it can be released. That's it.
- 12:05Stare at the bucket, stare the dial shaking like a seismograph
- 12:17there in an earthquake, and just get the sense that you are about
- 12:28to release. That's in locate the feeling of
- 12:41this pressure, stress and overwhelm.
- 12:50Just turn your attention inward and I want you to get the
- 12:56feeling of how you would feel if you were driving on a motorway
- 13:04or perhaps feeling exhausted after driving more than you
- 13:10normally would. Just allow the feeling to be
- 13:15present as an awareness. It's there and where do you
- 13:22notice it in your body. You don't need to overthink it.
- 13:28Just let your attention land somewhere.
- 13:31The head, perhaps the chest, the gut, wherever it makes itself
- 13:37known. And if that feeling, that
- 13:45feeling of being close to the limit had a shape to it, a
- 13:50colour, a texture, a temperature, what would it be?
- 13:58And don't worry about getting it right, just whatever comes.
- 14:10And as you feel those emotions within, you see the dial
- 14:15cranking up to the red zone. That dial is measuring how much
- 14:22of your system's capacity and energy is currently being used
- 14:29to hold this feeling, to hold the guard up, to keep watch.
- 14:34And. Maybe it feels sometimes like
- 14:41you're using most of your power to thinking, mitigating,
- 14:49avoiding. What if that adds more shells
- 14:56and stones to the bucket and more pressure to the gauge?
- 15:01Almost like there's very little for anything else, for choice,
- 15:08for the parts of you that know how to handle things.
- 15:13For the you that used to drive comfortably on a motorway
- 15:18without a second thought. But here's the interesting
- 15:26thing. The bucket doesn't have to
- 15:30remain full, and the needle doesn't have to stay there in
- 15:36the red zone. What if this is there for a
- 15:41reason, a very good reason, but the reason belongs to a
- 15:49different time? And what if today we allow the
- 15:56dial to find a more useful setting?
- 16:04I want you to imagine what it would feel like to empty the
- 16:09stones and shells from the bucket, or to allow the pressure
- 16:18in the pressure cooker to be released.
- 16:23Maybe it comes with the sound of a hissing sound of that pressure
- 16:28being released, or the sound of the shells and stones being
- 16:34emptied from the bucket there onto the shore.
- 16:40And as the bucket increases its capacity and the dial moves from
- 16:47red to amber to green, I want you to notice what happens in
- 16:54your body. A feeling perhaps changes.
- 17:02A color, a brightness, a temperature starts to reduce.
- 17:17In fact, the harder you try to get that feeling back, the more
- 17:24you are actively releasing it. Think about that.
- 17:29Just imagine a release valve where your head meets the top of
- 17:36your spine. Imagine it right there and just
- 17:41feel the sensation of a balloon being deflated.
- 17:48All of that pressure being released, almost like a weight
- 17:55is being lifted off your shoulders, that if that camel
- 18:03carrying all of that straw had the straw being taken from its
- 18:06back, the camel doesn't want the back to be broken.
- 18:15It got strong carrying all of that straw.
- 18:19But imagine the straw being taken off the camel, the
- 18:25pressure valve being released, the bucket being emptied, and
- 18:31feel how you would feel if that was happening.
- 18:35Not as a thought or an idea, but within you that your capacity is
- 18:43increasing, your pressure, your weight is being released.
- 18:56As the needle drops, resources that were tied up begin to flow
- 19:02back, like pressure releasing from a system that's been
- 19:07overloaded. And maybe the heat begins to
- 19:11soften or tightening in the chest starts to ease slightly.
- 19:20Gut feeling more settled and with each twitch of the dial
- 19:29slowing and going down, you have more capacity, more space, more
- 19:41of you available to work with what we're going to explore
- 19:46next. And when the bucket arrives with
- 19:53lots of capacity, it doesn't need to be empty.
- 19:58And with that dial down to a reasonable letter, doesn't need
- 20:04to be 0, just showing capacity. Let me know by nodding your
- 20:09head. That's it.
- 20:19And now with that more capacity, more space, more resources
- 20:24inside you, let's locate a part within you.
- 20:37I want you to turn your attention back to the area
- 20:40around your head, and rather than experiencing what was there
- 20:50as a problem, I'd like you to approach it the way you might
- 20:56approach someone who is working very hard to protect someone
- 21:00they love. You've done that.
- 21:06You worked hard to protect someone you loved.
- 21:09Imagine there's a part within you trying to protect you.
- 21:18Perhaps that part knew every now and then you were getting close
- 21:21to your limits. And maybe that part thought
- 21:28driving on a motorway would be the worst place to reach those
- 21:31limits. And I want you to thank that
- 21:37part for its wonderful intentions.
- 21:45It's aimed to help. And if that part is willing to
- 21:51make itself known, let me know by nodding your head.
- 22:05That's it. And just thank that part.
- 22:12Not performative, but genuine. Like you would thank anyone that
- 22:16had a wonderful intention to try and protect you.
- 22:23Think it sincerely and ask ask that part if it was trying to
- 22:34help, trying to protect you. And if that was the intention,
- 22:39let me know by nodding your head.
- 22:51That's it. And maybe it was trying to do
- 22:55something else as well, but I want you to thank it for its
- 23:00intention. But I want you to share
- 23:05something with that part. I want you to think.
- 23:12Think of all of the sadness, distress or loss, this part
- 23:20protecting you in this way has caused things you've struggled
- 23:25with, things you couldn't do, waking up in the middle of the
- 23:31night. And I want you to project those
- 23:35memories, those real emotions to that part.
- 23:39Not to punish it, not to shame it, but to educate it.
- 23:45Because I think that part didn't realise that it's good intention
- 23:52had a consequence, A brutal consequence, making your life
- 23:58more difficult when it was trying to make it easier,
- 24:05creating more challenges when it was trying to reduce challenge.
- 24:12And if that part is now aware of all the consequences of
- 24:18protecting you in this way. Let me know about.
- 24:22Nodding your head. And I want you.
- 24:28To ask that part if I can talk to it directly.
- 24:34And if so. Just allow the part to.
- 24:38Be the dominant. Part within you.
- 24:42Not the part. You're talking to, but the part
- 24:45I'm talking to. And if it's.
- 24:50Willing to listen to me directly rather than through you?
- 24:54Let me know by nodding your head.
- 25:04That's. It you are capable.
- 25:11You have a. Wonderful intention, and I don't
- 25:15think you knew the consequence of that.
- 25:18Wonderful intention. I also know how influential you
- 25:24are. You can create physical
- 25:28sensations that are powerful, that feel like an illness.
- 25:33That's how capable you are of protecting, deterring.
- 25:40And I don't think you knew the ripple effect of that, the deep
- 25:46sadness, the frustration, the emotional drain.
- 25:53And I'm wondering if you're willing to protect in a new way?
- 25:59Rather than. Anxiety and avoidance.
- 26:06I'm wondering. If you're willing to harness
- 26:09courage and competency. You now.
- 26:17Have the resources available to use that courage and competency
- 26:25that is evidently there. I want you.
- 26:29To recall the memory of a time of pure courage.
- 26:34And that. Courage suddenly made fear and
- 26:39anxiety disappear because you took action.
- 26:46And I'm wondering. If you're willing to harness
- 26:47that resource. To create a.
- 26:51Wonderful essence of self belief.
- 26:56You've been using. Doubt to deter Let's use self
- 27:01belief. To do what's Necessary to
- 27:08reawaken that confidence and competency that.
- 27:13Is there? And you know it's there.
- 27:17Because I want. You to go back to a memory.
- 27:20A long drive. In your 20s or 30s, conditions
- 27:24were challenging and yet driving was effortless.
- 27:38And if you're. Willing to harness those
- 27:40resources. Let me know.
- 27:44By nodding your head. You are.
- 27:53Influential, powerful, and I. Want.
- 27:59You to have more responsibility, not less harnessing resources.
- 28:08You don't. Need to avoid.
- 28:12And I want. You to imagine.
- 28:16A few days. From now.
- 28:20Doing something you. Would never have done if your
- 28:22resources were depleted. But now you.
- 28:25Have the resources I. Want you to?
- 28:28Feel tenacious, determined, galvanized.
- 28:37And if you're. Willing to.
- 28:41Utilize it in. That way, let me know by nodding
- 28:43your head. That's it.
- 29:13I want. You to feel it's time to return.
- 29:20Taking all of. That capacity and resources with
- 29:23you. As I count.
- 29:33From 5:00 to 1:00. You will float.
- 29:37Back feeling that you have. Release the pressure.
- 29:42Increase the capacity. And connected.
- 29:46Resources to that resourceful part that only ever wanted the
- 29:50best for you. Starting to count. 123. 4.
