- 1:00Speaker 2: the podcast are millennials who want financial freedom. Today, my friends,
- 1:05Speaker 2: it is Friday, which means it is time to bring
- 1:07Speaker 2: my little team back together to celebrate you ow incredible.

- 1:17Speaker 2: gonna get some very broke tips from the now back
- 1:20Speaker 2: and back in the game, Miss bechsa Ed, and we're
- 1:24Speaker 2: gonna be helping to answer a juicy money dilemma, which
- 1:27Speaker 2: this week is all about what to do with your
- 1:28Speaker 2: tax return, and we're going to be unpacking something that
- 1:31Speaker 2: you slid into our DMS about which this week we're
- 1:33Speaker 2: chatting about having a family and then moving in with
- 1:36Speaker 2: your parents to save. How have your weeks been, my love?
- 1:40Speaker 2: Let's start with you, Beck, because okay, you skipped last
- 1:43Speaker 2: week's Friday drink.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I miss you.
- 1:45Speaker 4: Guys, we miss you too, sock. I was admittedly not
- 1:49Speaker 4: sick or anything. I was just on annual leave.
- 1:51Speaker 2: So I mean, you have every right to do. But
- 1:54Speaker 2: aren't we cool enough to hang out with twenty four
- 1:56Speaker 2: to seven?
- 1:57Speaker 4: I think it's glaringly obvious to who the coolest one
- 2:01Speaker 4: in this group is.
- 2:06Speaker 3: So but no, it was really good. I moved house.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, did you I did I know that
- 2:11Speaker 2: was happening. I don't think so.
- 2:12Speaker 4: I don't think I mentioned it, and I'm sorry about that.
- 2:14Speaker 4: I moved from Brunswick to Colton, North.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Oh that's bougie, which.
- 2:18Speaker 4: I know is like Brunswick is my hometown. RUNS want
- 2:23Speaker 4: to be there.
- 2:24Speaker 2: You're why did you move just purely for lower rent?
- 2:28Speaker 2: Also one of my Oh yeah that's right, because your
- 2:30Speaker 2: landlord increased the land. Yeah, okay, makes up doing that,
- 2:33Speaker 2: but it's still quite pricey for what it is. But anyway,
- 2:36Speaker 2: my dear friend and I've always wanted to live together,
- 2:38Speaker 2: so we just.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Decided to.
- 2:41Speaker 4: No meanly, we've lived together for years before was cold up.
- 2:45Speaker 4: We've been there, done that. We live very well together.
- 2:47Speaker 4: But anyway, that's another story.
- 2:49Speaker 1: No.
- 2:49Speaker 4: My friend Allison, who might listen to this one day hopefully,
- 2:52Speaker 4: Hi Alison.
- 2:53Speaker 3: It's been a hectic week, but I'm glad.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Moving sucks. It's not one good thing about moving really sucks.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Not one except for the part where you've probably got
- 3:03Speaker 2: a nicer house, fresh new house fresh.
- 3:05Speaker 3: That's pretty good for.
- 3:06Speaker 4: The first night when you watch TV and order a pizza. Yeah, yeah,
- 3:09Speaker 4: that's nothing set up yet.
- 3:11Speaker 2: That's a ride of passage. It's really cozy, Miss Jess Goottaucci.
- 3:15Speaker 2: How's your week being. It's been good.
- 3:17Speaker 3: I have been getting ready for Halloween two months earlier.
- 3:21Speaker 3: I know one of my I love TK Max. I
- 3:24Speaker 3: don't know if they're everywhere, but they're like, we're American. Yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 3: it's an American company, I'm pretty sure. And they have
- 3:29Speaker 3: been putting their Halloween stuff out for last weeks. So
- 3:31Speaker 3: I've been having a lot of fun treasure hunting because
- 3:33Speaker 3: it's one of those stores they just get like a
- 3:35Speaker 3: few of each thing gets different things. Yeah, so it's
- 3:40Speaker 3: like a big treasure hunt. I joined Facebook group. Is
- 3:42Speaker 3: a whole thing you did. You're allowed, I think so,
- 3:46Speaker 3: and you're not. Weare.
- 3:47Speaker 2: You're going to come into the studio and it's going
- 3:48Speaker 2: to be Halloween themes. I'm going to be very excited.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Could I do the best studio?
- 3:52Speaker 2: You can decorate the studio just as long as I
- 3:54Speaker 2: don't have to do it. We have to do literally nothing.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Do we get hold on? Do we get the treats?
- 4:02Speaker 3: Do we get treats? I feel like I could organize
- 4:04Speaker 3: some treats.
- 4:04Speaker 2: We want the treats, we want the decorations. We want
- 4:06Speaker 2: none of the work, and we'll take all the responsibility.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Should we be doing themed podcasts? No themed podcast So
- 4:15Speaker 3: for the people at home, I tried to convince the
- 4:17Speaker 3: girls last year to do a Bama Rush at not
- 4:20Speaker 3: like come into work dressed up as a Bama Rush girl.
- 4:22Speaker 2: We're smarter than that.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Got on board with me.
- 4:26Speaker 2: For the patriarchy to thrive, we do not is no,
- 4:29Speaker 2: absolutely not.
- 4:30Speaker 3: I'll explain to you after it's I don't know.
- 4:33Speaker 4: If I were here last year, I would have gotten
- 4:35Speaker 4: on board with you.
- 4:36Speaker 3: You wouldn't have hearing it here first, Beck and I
- 4:39Speaker 3: are dressing up for the Halloween episode.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Unless unless what Victoria is saying is true and this
- 4:43Speaker 4: is a little bit problematic, in which case I am
- 4:45Speaker 4: so against it.
- 4:48Speaker 2: You're like, I reserved the right to make a decision later.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Exactly exactly, whatever outcome is best, that's the one I'm
- 4:56Speaker 4: going to go for.
- 4:56Speaker 2: But we actually have a very we've been hoarding. In fact,
- 5:00Speaker 2: do you know what one of the worst things I'm
- 5:02Speaker 2: awful at is if I have something exciting that's happened,
- 5:06Speaker 2: I will bust into the studio and tell Ane Lisa,
- 5:09Speaker 2: our producer, and you Beck immediately when it happens, and
- 5:12Speaker 2: then you have to re listen to it when we
- 5:14Speaker 2: record the podcast and pretend you've never heard of that
- 5:17Speaker 2: story before. Right, That's not like that. This week, I'm
- 5:20Speaker 2: leaving it for Jess to tell everyone, have.
- 5:22Speaker 3: An exciting update.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Oh oh my god, what is it?
- 5:27Speaker 3: So last week?
- 5:28Speaker 2: Go back? Because Beck wasn't here, correct, and its chance
- 5:31Speaker 2: she listened to that podcast.
- 5:33Speaker 3: I'm sure she did, but I.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Was there. I do it.
- 5:40Speaker 3: You do know because we've spoken about it. Someone on
- 5:42Speaker 3: the internet was impersonating me. Yes, everyone knows about it.
- 5:47Speaker 3: It's been a very very stressful thing for me because
- 5:49Speaker 3: they're trying to get people to buy bitcoin, and I'm
- 5:51Speaker 3: so upset and scared of the thought of someone doing
- 5:54Speaker 3: something because they thought they were it was me and
- 5:55Speaker 3: they trust me and they like me, and then psych
- 5:57Speaker 3: it's some random person on the other side of the
- 5:59Speaker 3: world taking you for all your money. Hate hate hate
- 6:02Speaker 3: hate hate. So I was talking to Victory, I'm like,
- 6:05Speaker 3: I doned to report it.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Instagram didn't take it down. So like every man and
- 6:09Speaker 2: his dog that we know, we have asked to report
- 6:12Speaker 2: this account, and every man and his dog that we
- 6:15Speaker 2: know has gotten back to us and said, hey, like
- 6:16Speaker 2: we got that notification to say that our report was
- 6:19Speaker 2: seen to and like the account's staying up like they
- 6:22Speaker 2: don't see any issue with it, And both just and
- 6:24Speaker 2: I were like, what the hell, this is actually really
- 6:28Speaker 2: really unsafe. Yeah, so we weren't impressed.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Yeah you told me.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Oh I messaged the scammer. Oh you did too, Did
- 6:35Speaker 2: you get any reply? I didn't. I tried.
- 6:38Speaker 4: I was like, hey, babe, I still ear you for dinner,
- 6:40Speaker 4: hit me with your deeds, and then.
- 6:43Speaker 3: I appreciate the affair. You know who else decided to
- 6:47Speaker 3: try and message the scamer and see what they could do.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Miss Victoria, Okay, let me know what you did. I'm
- 7:01Speaker 2: just so satisfying. Would you like some of your own medicine, sir?
- 7:07Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 7:08Speaker 2: So I first tagged him in an Instagram post, calling
- 7:11Speaker 2: them out as a scammer, like I put it on
- 7:13Speaker 2: my stories, which We've been doing a lot recently because
- 7:15Speaker 2: I've been like, please don't believe this account. It's not Jess. Anyway,
- 7:20Speaker 2: I tagged them and I thought, you know what, I'm
- 7:23Speaker 2: just going to tag them so people like you bet
- 7:25Speaker 2: could click into the profile to report it. I thought
- 7:28Speaker 2: he would block me. He did not, he replied, being like,
- 7:32Speaker 2: get a life, bug off, like a lot of profanities, stay.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Out of this.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Stay out of this. Absolutely not. I've got all these
- 7:42Speaker 2: screenshots though, I will show you later. But basically he
- 7:45Speaker 2: was like, get out of this, like this isn't any
- 7:47Speaker 2: of your business, and I was like, I'm making it
- 7:50Speaker 2: my business. So yeah, one thing led to another. I
- 7:53Speaker 2: basically said, look, I know some people that that are
- 8:01Speaker 2: private investigator. I don't know one private investigator.
- 8:07Speaker 3: But I've got my private investigator and he's hunting you down.
- 8:11Speaker 2: But what happened was I realized that if you go
- 8:16Speaker 2: to someone's Instagram account, you can look at their profile insights, right,
- 8:19Speaker 2: and we'll tell you when they signed up, what location
- 8:22Speaker 2: they signed up from, and how many times they've changed
- 8:24Speaker 2: their profile name. And so I was like, oh, this
- 8:27Speaker 2: is interesting, and I, you know, a week or so ago,
- 8:29Speaker 2: I said to Jess, hey, did you know that the
- 8:32Speaker 2: account is actually based in Nigeria? And also it was
- 8:35Speaker 2: established in twenty eighteen, and also they've changed their name
- 8:38Speaker 2: like eight times, so I'm assuming they use this account
- 8:41Speaker 2: to like replicate you, then they delete everything, change the
- 8:44Speaker 2: account and then replicate their can whatever. And she was like, wow,
- 8:47Speaker 2: I didn't even know you could do that. So we
- 8:48Speaker 2: started stalking other people and like just having a bit
- 8:50Speaker 2: of fun with that, and I was like, wow, I
- 8:52Speaker 2: didn't realize I joined Instagram in twenty eleven. I am
- 8:55Speaker 2: really old anyway, So I had that information, sure, I
- 8:59Speaker 2: assume because Jess, who usually knows absolutely everything, didn't know that.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Not everybody knew that. So used it to my advantage.
- 9:06Speaker 2: And I said, I'm a private investigator. I found him
- 9:09Speaker 2: on TikTok. I told the guy and I said that
- 9:10Speaker 2: we would create amazing content. And I was like, I mean,
- 9:14Speaker 2: you can keep scamming people. But my TikTok investigator guy
- 9:18Speaker 2: and I have a meeting later this afternoon, and he's
- 9:22Speaker 2: already told me heaps of stuff about you. And they
- 9:24Speaker 2: were like, absolutely, that's not true. You're a China scam me.
- 9:27Speaker 2: And I was like, I would never scam a scammer. I,
- 9:29Speaker 2: you know, used to be a financial advisor. I'm a
- 9:31Speaker 2: legitimate human being. And he was like, you don't know
- 9:34Speaker 2: anything about me, and I was like, well, I already
- 9:36Speaker 2: know that you're based in Nigeria and you created this
- 9:38Speaker 2: account in twenty eighteen, and you've already scammed seven other
- 9:40Speaker 2: people in Jessica's the eighth and then they said, give
- 9:44Speaker 2: me two hundred dollars and I'll delete the account. I said,
- 9:48Speaker 2: that's fine, of course I would give you two hundred dollars,
- 9:50Speaker 2: but you're a scammer, so I'm not giving you any
- 9:52Speaker 2: money until you delete every single post change you or
- 9:56Speaker 2: use the name unfollow everybody from Jessica's page that you followed,
- 10:00Speaker 2: then we can talk about it, yes, And so he
- 10:03Speaker 2: did all that and then I said, oh, sorry, I
- 10:05Speaker 2: don't have two.
- 10:09Speaker 3: So the account we think as of today that we're recording,
- 10:12Speaker 3: it's not it's still.
- 10:14Speaker 2: It's not active. It's been the name has been changed,
- 10:16Speaker 2: it still exists. So we will continue to report it
- 10:19Speaker 2: so that other people don't end up in the same
- 10:21Speaker 2: trap that Jess ended up in. And obviously we've taken
- 10:24Speaker 2: it further to Instagram.
- 10:25Speaker 3: But oh the sorry, don't mess with Victoria Fine.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Family.
- 10:31Speaker 3: WHOA, that is so cool.
- 10:35Speaker 2: I think my favorite part about scamming the scammer is
- 10:38Speaker 2: how salty the scammer got when he realized he was
- 10:41Speaker 2: being scammed. He called me fat, He called me every
- 10:44Speaker 2: name under the sun. He called me ugly. He said
- 10:47Speaker 2: that I have no life and my friends and family
- 10:49Speaker 2: don't love me. And I was like, who.
- 10:52Speaker 3: That's a lot coming from me, my dude.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Rich sugar. That is hectic.
- 10:58Speaker 4: But you know, I find it so funny when people
- 11:00Speaker 4: out themselves as someone who is really clinging to low
- 11:04Speaker 4: hanging fruit, When they call someone ugly and fat and
- 11:06Speaker 4: all this stuff, I'm like, oh, you to worry about
- 11:09Speaker 4: someone like you?
- 11:10Speaker 2: I was like this second that started coming out. I
- 11:12Speaker 2: said to Jess, scame on, like, this guy is an
- 11:15Speaker 2: actual idiot, Like you might have been smart to create
- 11:18Speaker 2: this Instagram account because replicating a whole Instagram account and
- 11:22Speaker 2: having thirteen thousand fake followers, I was like, that's.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Had more followers than me.
- 11:26Speaker 2: I was like, that's trude. So everyone thought that it
- 11:31Speaker 2: was like the real one was the jests with more followers,
- 11:34Speaker 2: and it wasn't the case. I did. I was very convincing.
- 11:38Speaker 3: It was very funny.
- 11:40Speaker 2: So were these extra people.
- 11:41Speaker 3: And please come over to Jessica ches Jess Kiki, thank
- 11:43Speaker 3: you so much, but I'm so happy. What a great
- 11:46Speaker 3: outcome VD is. We had the best horning highlight of
- 11:50Speaker 3: my week.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Honestly, we had the best morning scamming a scammer. Obviously.
- 11:54Speaker 2: I was sending every single screenshot to Jess to be
- 11:56Speaker 2: like what do I say next, and she's like, I
- 11:58Speaker 2: don't know. I am just cackling, like this is amazing.
- 12:01Speaker 2: But yeah, he did all of that and then didn't
- 12:04Speaker 2: get his two hundred dollars from me that he obviously
- 12:06Speaker 2: needed me to transfer in bitcoin. Of course, of course,
- 12:10Speaker 2: of course, I was like, I'm so sorry. Don't have bitcoin.
- 12:13Speaker 2: He's like, you can sign up for an account, and I'm like.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Oh, I just checked.
- 12:15Speaker 2: You need identification to sign up for bitcoin, and he
- 12:18Speaker 2: was like, yeah, you can do that. And I was like,
- 12:20Speaker 2: I don't actually have any identification or got stolen by
- 12:26Speaker 2: some random and they're now pretending to be me on
- 12:28Speaker 2: the internet. Oh my gosh. Anyway, there's a lot of fun.
- 12:32Speaker 2: I mean, probably don't do us. I do, probably go
- 12:34Speaker 2: the usual routs, but I mean a lot of people
- 12:36Speaker 2: also messaged us and said, hey, this stuff happens all
- 12:39Speaker 2: the time. It's really hard to get rid of these
- 12:41Speaker 2: accounts because of the longevity of them. So because it
- 12:44Speaker 2: had existed since twenty eighteen and they'd obviously gone through
- 12:48Speaker 2: lots of profile changes since then, Instagram's algorithm just identifies
- 12:53Speaker 2: it as being legitimate because they're like, well, why they're
- 12:56Speaker 2: reporting it now, it's been around since twenty eighteen. Well
- 13:00Speaker 2: you just take the law into your own hands.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Why not stand shit?
- 13:05Speaker 2: All right? You know what's better than scamming a scammer?
- 13:07Speaker 2: It is our community money wins, and just we need
- 13:09Speaker 2: to stop talking about scammers unless there are some money
- 13:12Speaker 2: losses about scammers, in which case we want to hear
- 13:14Speaker 2: about those, but I don't think there are, because I
- 13:16Speaker 2: think it's just you being scammed.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Babe, No, just me, just now you got this week? Okay.
- 13:21Speaker 3: My first money win this week comes from Rachel, who
- 13:23Speaker 3: said money win. I just harvested my first bock choy
- 13:26Speaker 3: heads from my first veggie garden. A bundle awsome right,
- 13:30Speaker 3: A bundle of three heads and calls is two dollars fifty,
- 13:32Speaker 3: but my six pack of seedlings was only four dollars
- 13:35Speaker 3: and each seedling has produced three to four heads. I'm
- 13:37Speaker 3: harvesting at the base instead of pulling them out, so
- 13:40Speaker 3: hopefully they'll produce new stamps and I'll get even more
- 13:43Speaker 3: of them. And I just love the idea of growing
- 13:45Speaker 3: your own veg because vege is expensive.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Now unlimited bock choy hack, I love that.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Get on that. Next, I have a money win from
- 13:51Speaker 3: it Tanya, who said I found dog food on clearance
- 13:54Speaker 3: for one dollar a can and bought two hundred and
- 13:55Speaker 3: forty cans.
- 13:57Speaker 2: A photo of.
- 14:01Speaker 3: A big car it's hard to see on my crusphone. Wow,
- 14:05Speaker 3: I love that. Like that is just such a good win. Next,
- 14:08Speaker 3: I've got a win from Many who said money win.
- 14:10Speaker 3: My friend gave me a book that I was considering buying,
- 14:13Speaker 3: and I got a free coffee today two days before payday.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Much needed great money win.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Yeah money Oh my god, stuff was so funny.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Wish We were responding as very much. If you're looking
- 14:25Speaker 3: for another book, money win. Victoria's upcoming book, book number three.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Do you know I finished recording that last week? So
- 14:32Speaker 2: like the audio book version.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, wait, I know right, I'm so impressed
- 14:36Speaker 3: for you.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Worst worst process in the entire world, it would be yes.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Have you ever tried to read, like literally word for
- 14:43Speaker 2: word of script in a podcast. Imagine that that every
- 14:45Speaker 2: time you say something wrong, they make you go back
- 14:47Speaker 2: to the entire start.
- 14:48Speaker 3: Oh well, you can pre order the paperback or the
- 14:53Speaker 3: audiobook version on Amazon. There forty two percent off right now.
- 14:56Speaker 3: So if someone is looking for a book, money win.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Percent off, that is a good money win. Good dem
- 15:00Speaker 2: I'm biased, but that's a really good book.
- 15:02Speaker 3: It is a good book. We have read it and
- 15:04Speaker 3: can confirm she stood it. I even wrote it. My
- 15:08Speaker 3: next money wind comes from Eliza, who said money win.
- 15:11Speaker 3: My local Viny's had a dish shopping night and I
- 15:13Speaker 3: got two dresses and a vest for one hundred and
- 15:15Speaker 3: forty five dollars. They had an age one last month,
- 15:18Speaker 3: which was also a funny wind. But I've got to
- 15:20Speaker 3: post about it. How good is that?
- 15:22Speaker 2: That's actually genius? Please not gate keep location time. I'm
- 15:26Speaker 2: realizing how to get updates, Like, really.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Sad it's she said it was in lawn sestin Tasmania.
- 15:31Speaker 3: So there you go next time you're down there, genius.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Genius Dish is one of my favorite brands, and so
- 15:37Speaker 3: I'm really mad that that's not Yep, that's okay. Next,
- 15:40Speaker 3: I've got a money win from Addie who said small
- 15:42Speaker 3: money win another coffee one. I got a free Matilda
- 15:45Speaker 3: themed donut with my coffee for wearing my jersey. I
- 15:49Speaker 3: love that supporting the girls ended up supporting my sweet
- 15:52Speaker 3: Treat Addiction and the Tillies.
- 15:55Speaker 2: I wore my Tillier scarf the other day when we're
- 15:57Speaker 2: on the way to the pub to watch them play,
- 16:00Speaker 2: and I really liked the attention I got from that,
- 16:02Speaker 2: the amount of people screaming out their car being like,
- 16:04Speaker 2: go the Tillies. I was like, is this what it
- 16:06Speaker 2: feels like to be a footy guy?
- 16:09Speaker 3: So proud of the goal, I could cry about this
- 16:11Speaker 3: whole I love it, but it makes me so happy,
- 16:13Speaker 3: but we continue. Yeah, I will cry.
- 16:15Speaker 2: I'll so lend you my scarf.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Next, I've got my namen from Tanya who said, found
- 16:20Speaker 3: these in the frozen section, no more ava wasted. Did
- 16:23Speaker 3: you know you can buy frozen avocado? Because I didn't here.
- 16:25Speaker 2: I am thinking that my frozen mashed potato was revolution
- 16:28Speaker 2: here and.
- 16:29Speaker 3: We had that broke tip from back last two weeks
- 16:31Speaker 3: ago where you said use your frozen veggies. You can
- 16:34Speaker 3: make avocado a part of that.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Now, Oh, I am real the brand so confused.
- 16:38Speaker 3: The photo that she shared is Cole's brand. So I'm
- 16:42Speaker 3: going to.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Take one for the team. I'm going to purchase that.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Very low expectations of how that's going to perform once thowed,
- 16:51Speaker 2: because I don't know. Maybe it's good for like smoothies
- 16:54Speaker 2: like blend her up. Oh god, I feel like anything
- 16:57Speaker 2: that you're gonna like you would blash Masha Bond.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I just know that was great.
- 17:02Speaker 2: I'm suspicious because avocado.
- 17:04Speaker 3: You have like one day of good usable avocado and
- 17:07Speaker 3: then she's gone.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Josh and I have a lot of food things to
- 17:10Speaker 2: do in the upcoming future.
- 17:12Speaker 3: We have to have a cooking show.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Yeah, we have to. Well, last time we tried to
- 17:15Speaker 2: start a cooking show, Jessica, I literally set my kitchen
- 17:18Speaker 2: on fryer on IG Live, so that was like less
- 17:21Speaker 2: than ideal.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Iconic moment, that is unreal.
- 17:25Speaker 2: But I mean, if you want to unhinged cooking show,
- 17:26Speaker 2: Jess and I are all about it. But we have
- 17:28Speaker 2: to have our potato night. So we're so excited you're
- 17:31Speaker 2: coming to beck. We're going to find a night where
- 17:33Speaker 2: we come to my house because I have dining chairs
- 17:35Speaker 2: now and we're going to have a dinner party. But entree,
- 17:38Speaker 2: main course, dessert, snacks, drinks all have to be potato based.
- 17:42Speaker 4: Sure.
- 17:42Speaker 2: And then Jess and I have found the recipe to
- 17:45Speaker 2: the chin chin padsw noodles. We're gonna make that lovely.
- 17:51Speaker 2: We just have a lot of things, lots a lot
- 17:53Speaker 2: of things coming up mealhouse.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Well, we can add avocado frozen testing to the list.
- 17:57Speaker 2: That's what we're going to do.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Last money we in a solid one, Sualine. She said,
- 18:00Speaker 3: money Win found a cute win address from Kmart in
- 18:03Speaker 3: the twenty dollars clearance rack in my size and then
- 18:05Speaker 3: it scanned.
- 18:05Speaker 2: It twelve bucks. Oh my gosh money. W yeah, that's
- 18:09Speaker 2: that's like a three eight dollars if you use that
- 18:12Speaker 2: dodgy girl math trend.
- 18:14Speaker 3: None of that here, None of that in this here.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Thank you very much. All right, speaking of saving money,
- 18:20Speaker 2: ms Beck say ed, okay, it's your turn.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Are you guys ready?
- 18:24Speaker 2: We are so ready for your broke tips.
- 18:26Speaker 4: First one, I remember months ago I was talking about
- 18:29Speaker 4: how a review made me cry, and then I reread
- 18:31Speaker 4: the reviews just recently because I was too scared to
- 18:33Speaker 4: do that do so beforehand?
- 18:35Speaker 2: What are you read reviews?
- 18:37Speaker 4: I know I shouldn't have. But then this person apologized,
- 18:39Speaker 4: and I am no, they did.
- 18:40Speaker 3: They did, rews.
- 18:42Speaker 2: I just thought that was really sweet.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Thank you so much.
- 18:44Speaker 4: A lot of people don't do that, and so sobody.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Hold on, hold on, hold on, I'm so confused. So
- 18:48Speaker 2: you're saying that somebody left a negative review. Yes, we
- 18:51Speaker 2: talked smack about it on the podcast. Yes, after leaving
- 18:53Speaker 2: a negative review on our podcast. Yes, they continued to
- 18:56Speaker 2: listen to our podcast. Correct, and then they apologize.
- 19:00Speaker 5: Yes?
- 19:00Speaker 3: Correct. Do you know what personal growth?
- 19:02Speaker 4: I love that, we love personal growth. I was really
- 19:06Speaker 4: shy at the start of this year.
- 19:08Speaker 2: So maybe I do not know what you're talking on.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Like though, I was like, I don't know what I'm saying. Anyways,
- 19:14Speaker 2: that's my first shoutow and now you've got a whole
- 19:16Speaker 2: loaned segment. You're like, sit down, guys, you're doing three
- 19:18Speaker 2: shout outs.
- 19:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:22Speaker 4: Shout out to one of our listeners who works with
- 19:24Speaker 4: Find Victoria, who encouraged me to give Find Victoria a
- 19:27Speaker 4: call just to see what they can do about the jigar.
- 19:31Speaker 4: Have I send them an email? I haven't called them
- 19:33Speaker 4: get too shy, but I might do that.
- 19:35Speaker 2: It's the coole point for you. Thank you. That's so
- 19:38Speaker 2: kind of you. Jazz I would do the same thing.
- 19:41Speaker 2: I love to start a little negotiation on the phone.
- 19:44Speaker 2: I also fight with scammers, so I'm not sure if
- 19:47Speaker 2: I'm the best for this, but you know what, it's
- 19:50Speaker 2: that justice mentality that you know.
- 19:54Speaker 4: That's the kind of determination I need. Okay, Well, I
- 19:56Speaker 4: do have some broad tips here. There's one from Rachel
- 19:59Speaker 4: who has said that there's a place in Brisbane called
- 20:01Speaker 4: Lighthouse that offers a full grocery trolley for twenty five dollars.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Sorry, what I know isn't that?
- 20:08Speaker 4: Why does it work that can be picked up or delivered,
- 20:11Speaker 4: and they often have free fruit and veggies as well.
- 20:14Speaker 4: My husband and I have used it when in a
- 20:16Speaker 4: tight spot and when we can often repay by dropping
- 20:19Speaker 4: food off. I'm assuming it's kind of like you drop
- 20:22Speaker 4: food off and it's it's a give and take sort
- 20:23Speaker 4: of situation, sort of like a million and lentils as anything,
- 20:26Speaker 4: so that that is useful if you are in Brisbane.
- 20:28Speaker 2: The second broke tip I have comes from.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Lily, who has basically just suggested that we go to
- 20:34Speaker 4: the reject shop for any kind of perishables or anything
- 20:38Speaker 4: when you go to Woollies, just in case of something cheaper,
- 20:41Speaker 4: because you can get really cheap things from reject shop.
- 20:44Speaker 4: I got like ten dollar curtains that are that will
- 20:46Speaker 4: pretty good quality Discounter bodycare bodycare style, like they have
- 20:51Speaker 4: body or shampoo conditioner, all of your like truthpastes.
- 20:55Speaker 2: That's so true, and I feel like we overlook it.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Went in there a little while ago to get like,
- 21:00Speaker 2: you know those plastic phone stands to your car that
- 21:02Speaker 2: go on the grain. Yes, surely reject shops going to
- 21:04Speaker 2: have it. And I walked out with so much other
- 21:06Speaker 2: stuff because I was like, oh my gosh, all of
- 21:08Speaker 2: their laundry products so affordable. I do need more Omo
- 21:12Speaker 2: and they're like all the name brands, but like they're cheap.
- 21:14Speaker 4: Yeah, and I don't I don't know why they're cheap.
- 21:16Speaker 4: But I'm not gonna ask any question. We are not
- 21:18Speaker 4: asking questions. We are simply getting a bargain.
- 21:20Speaker 2: We are just doing our best in this cost of living.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Crist exactly right, VICKI d And then that brings me
- 21:27Speaker 4: to my own personal brick tip of the week, which
- 21:30Speaker 4: is very similar to the first one I read out.
- 21:32Speaker 4: But my mother was talking about how sometimes in Harris
- 21:36Speaker 4: Farm or even in Woolies, I think they do this
- 21:38Speaker 4: as well. They'll have fruit and veggies at the front
- 21:40Speaker 4: of the store or in Harris's Farm, I think it's
- 21:42Speaker 4: at the back of the store where it's kind of
- 21:44Speaker 4: like it's maybe going to go off or it's a
- 21:46Speaker 4: little bit uglier than the regular fruit and veggies, and
- 21:49Speaker 4: you can get like a bag full for twenty five cents.
- 21:52Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
- 21:53Speaker 2: I remember that it existed. We don't have Harris Farms
- 21:56Speaker 2: in Victoria. Don't have Harrow's Farms Victoria.
- 21:58Speaker 3: That's true.
- 21:59Speaker 2: This is a new South Wales thing.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Maybe in other parts of Australia. I'm not sure.
- 22:01Speaker 2: I think it's just New South Wales, like it's a
- 22:03Speaker 2: silly thing.
- 22:04Speaker 4: But I know there are some certain wool words and
- 22:06Speaker 4: coals that do have this. They'll have like a trolley
- 22:08Speaker 4: full of produce and you can just get a bag
- 22:11Speaker 4: because maybe ugly or too small cares, which I love
- 22:15Speaker 4: ugly fruit.
- 22:15Speaker 2: It's like coals have the odd bunch. Yeah, yes' just
- 22:19Speaker 2: quite smart and I like that because I always buy
- 22:21Speaker 2: the old bunch because I'm like, I don't care if
- 22:22Speaker 2: we've got twisty carrots.
- 22:23Speaker 3: I hate the idea of produce being rejected, like farmers
- 22:26Speaker 3: putting all this effort into growing it and making it whatever,
- 22:28Speaker 3: and it's like not round enough or not shiny enough
- 22:30Speaker 3: for yeah, what the hell?
- 22:32Speaker 2: No, absolutely no, that's good one. All right, let's go
- 22:34Speaker 2: to a really quick break on the flip side. We're
- 22:36Speaker 2: going to be talking about what to do with your
- 22:38Speaker 2: tax return, and we've got a little bit of a
- 22:40Speaker 2: dilemma that you slid into our dms about we're gonna
- 22:43Speaker 2: be chatting about having a family and then moving back
- 22:44Speaker 2: with your parents to save. So guys don't go anywhere.
- 22:53Speaker 3: Welcome back everybody. Let's take a listen to the money dilemma.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just
- 23:00Speaker 2: can't solve the She's on The Money Team is here
- 23:03Speaker 2: to help. Every week, we tackle your dilemmas, both big
- 23:06Speaker 2: and small, to answer your most burning money, career and
- 23:09Speaker 2: life questions. To get involved, simply head to our website
- 23:12Speaker 2: and leave us a short voice recording and you might
- 23:14Speaker 2: just find yourself on the show. Now, let's take a
- 23:17Speaker 2: listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 23:22Speaker 5: Hi, Team, I just had a quick money question. So
- 23:24Speaker 5: I've got some money back from my tax return and
- 23:27Speaker 5: I was looking at looking in with Phil to sort
- 23:30Speaker 5: out my insurances. I've also been listening to the Property Playbook,
- 23:33Speaker 5: and I feel like I might be in a better
- 23:35Speaker 5: position towards buying my first house than I thought. Would
- 23:39Speaker 5: it be better to contact feel and sort out my
- 23:42Speaker 5: superhind my insurances first as I have two super accounts,
- 23:46Speaker 5: or is there a better option or someone I could
- 23:49Speaker 5: speak to that would be able to kind of handle
- 23:52Speaker 5: everything for me?
- 23:53Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 23:54Speaker 2: This is a really interesting one because at the start
- 23:57Speaker 2: I was like, Oh, I have so much advice on
- 24:00Speaker 2: what you should do with your tax return. But then
- 24:02Speaker 2: it went down the property path, and then it went
- 24:04Speaker 2: down the superpath. So you said you have two super accounts,
- 24:07Speaker 2: and I think the first thing I would be doing
- 24:09Speaker 2: is understanding what both of those accounts are and if
- 24:12Speaker 2: they have insurances as default on them. If they do,
- 24:15Speaker 2: you need to work out if those insurances are any
- 24:18Speaker 2: good and worth keeping or if you rolled your super
- 24:21Speaker 2: together it wouldn't matter. So you need to understand that.
- 24:24Speaker 2: But it's also twenty twenty three and the government has
- 24:27Speaker 2: a very cool MyD super comparison tool that means you
- 24:30Speaker 2: could probably go and it depends if you've got a
- 24:33Speaker 2: balance under one hundred thousand dollars. The probability of you
- 24:37Speaker 2: being able to just do it yourself and pick a
- 24:38Speaker 2: really good super fund that makes sense and aligns to
- 24:41Speaker 2: the fees you want to pay, the values you hold,
- 24:43Speaker 2: and the investment options that you want access to. I
- 24:46Speaker 2: just feel like a lot of us don't need to
- 24:48Speaker 2: pay a financial advisor for that. I really don't, and
- 24:52Speaker 2: I say that because I just go, you know what,
- 24:56Speaker 2: that super comparison tool run by the government is really good.
- 24:59Speaker 2: It's really clear, it's really clear. It compares apples with apples.
- 25:03Speaker 2: It's not here going oh okay, well, you know we're
- 25:06Speaker 2: being paid by this super fund, so we're going to
- 25:08Speaker 2: put it at the top of the list like it
- 25:10Speaker 2: doesn't do that. It's nothing like those comparison sites. So
- 25:14Speaker 2: I would be trying to do my super trying to
- 25:16Speaker 2: work that out myself, sam o hand. Yeah, insurance is
- 25:20Speaker 2: on the other hand, are not DIY. There's something that
- 25:23Speaker 2: you do definitely want to speak to an advisor about
- 25:26Speaker 2: and to save some cash because you know, you said
- 25:28Speaker 2: you were trying to buy property. I would go with
- 25:31Speaker 2: a financial advisor that does insurance only advice. It means
- 25:34Speaker 2: that the cost is going to be significantly stripped back. Also,
- 25:38Speaker 2: they're a financial advisor, so you could ask, hey, what
- 25:41Speaker 2: are your thoughts on super I don't want advice on it,
- 25:43Speaker 2: but I'd like to talk through what this insurance option
- 25:46Speaker 2: inside supermans or what this means. They're going to have
- 25:49Speaker 2: the knowledge to have that conversation, and I promise you
- 25:52Speaker 2: they'll have a good conversation with you about it so
- 25:54Speaker 2: that you're more educated in that She's on the money community.
- 25:58Speaker 2: We always recommend Sky Wealth and we will put a
- 26:01Speaker 2: link to Phil's company in the show notes because one
- 26:05Speaker 2: he's done all of my team's insurances. He's very cost
- 26:08Speaker 2: efficient when it comes to the statement of advice because
- 26:11Speaker 2: you need a good statement of advice. It's under five
- 26:14Speaker 2: hundred bucks. Like, that's a money win in any financial
- 26:18Speaker 2: advice circumstance. If you go to another advisor who has
- 26:21Speaker 2: not been structured to just give insurance advice like Phil's
- 26:25Speaker 2: structured his business, it will be a minimum of fifteen
- 26:28Speaker 2: hundred to three thousand dollars for insurance only advice because
- 26:31Speaker 2: that's just what it costs that business to do, whereas
- 26:34Speaker 2: Phil only does insurance. And I kind of like that
- 26:38Speaker 2: because you go, you know what, I'm not going to
- 26:40Speaker 2: talk to you about my investments, but I know that
- 26:42Speaker 2: you know everything about insurance because it's all they do.
- 26:45Speaker 2: It's their bread and butter. It's not just like for
- 26:48Speaker 2: a lot of financial advisors like I historically, and I'm
- 26:51Speaker 2: not trying to throw myself under a bus, but I
- 26:53Speaker 2: historically worked in the investment space and for me, insurance
- 26:57Speaker 2: was important because it was a hygiene factor for my client.
- 27:00Speaker 2: But I'd sit just down and be like, okay, cool,
- 27:02Speaker 2: so we're really prioritizing this, I'm going to go do
- 27:04Speaker 2: your insurances on the side, set all of that up,
- 27:07Speaker 2: but then really focus on investment. Whereas Phil his team
- 27:10Speaker 2: are going to be one hundred percent dedicated to making
- 27:12Speaker 2: sure that you're getting the right insurance for you. They're
- 27:16Speaker 2: going to do the ongoing management really cheaply, and it's
- 27:19Speaker 2: just to me, makes financial sense.
- 27:22Speaker 3: The next thing, it's a laundry list.
- 27:25Speaker 2: The next thing, my friend, well, she made it very
- 27:28Speaker 2: clear I need to do X. I'm like, I have
- 27:30Speaker 2: all these resources. Sit down, baby. The next thing you're
- 27:33Speaker 2: going to do is called the Zella Money team. Not
- 27:35Speaker 2: call them. We don't have a phone that you can
- 27:37Speaker 2: call unless Kate gives you her mobile number. And she
- 27:40Speaker 2: never answers me, so I don't know why I should
- 27:41Speaker 2: answer you, or maybe she would answer you, and that's
- 27:44Speaker 2: a sign. But I would talk to the Zella Money
- 27:46Speaker 2: team because if you think you're in a better position
- 27:48Speaker 2: to buy, that's actually one of the first conversations I'd
- 27:51Speaker 2: have before establishing insurances. I would actually go and speak
- 27:55Speaker 2: to the broker. And do you know why I would
- 27:57Speaker 2: do that, because if you are in a better position
- 28:00Speaker 2: to go and get your property of your dreams, right.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Let's say that you are in the best position to
- 28:05Speaker 2: buy actually right now, if you already established your insurances.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Once you settle on this property, you have to review
- 28:12Speaker 2: your insurances to consider the new debt that you've taken on, right,
- 28:16Speaker 2: So I would be talking to the broker first and
- 28:18Speaker 2: going hey, like, what's the probability? Like what do my
- 28:21Speaker 2: timeframes look like? Am I comfortable with this? Is this
- 28:23Speaker 2: actually something I want to do? Chat to the Zeala
- 28:26Speaker 2: Money team or a mortgage broker. To be honest, I
- 28:29Speaker 2: don't mind who you talk to. I obviously know and
- 28:32Speaker 2: trust to the Zeala Money Team, but any good broker
- 28:35Speaker 2: is going to be able to have this conversation with you,
- 28:38Speaker 2: sit down with them, work out your time frames. If
- 28:40Speaker 2: buying is another twelve months off, go see philp get
- 28:44Speaker 2: your insurances implemented, and then at your twelve month review
- 28:47Speaker 2: you can update those to be reflective of your new
- 28:49Speaker 2: hopeful purchase. But if you're buying in the next two
- 28:52Speaker 2: to three months, honestly I would buy and then implement insurances.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Does that make sense and why you might do it
- 28:59Speaker 2: that way? Say the double handling, save the double handling,
- 29:02Speaker 2: save having to go back and be like, hey, I
- 29:04Speaker 2: actually now have six hundred thousand dollars of debt that
- 29:07Speaker 2: I didn't have before. You're going to have to do
- 29:08Speaker 2: a whole new statement of advice.
- 29:10Speaker 3: I don't pay for advice twas, don't pay for advice
- 29:12Speaker 3: twice if you can want it exactly.
- 29:15Speaker 2: So that's what I would be doing if I were you.
- 29:18Speaker 2: But when it comes to what you should do with
- 29:20Speaker 2: your tax return, well, my friend is up to you.
- 29:24Speaker 2: But I just think that I wrote an article the
- 29:26Speaker 2: other week on girl math and how much I don't
- 29:30Speaker 2: particularly love this concept of girl math, because I think
- 29:33Speaker 2: it really downplays how intelligent women are when it comes
- 29:37Speaker 2: to finances and money and goes, oh my gosh, we're
- 29:40Speaker 2: just trying to justify frivolous purchases, Whereas I would really
- 29:44Speaker 2: hope that Jess, if you went out and bought a
- 29:46Speaker 2: new dress, you could just be like, yeah, I like
- 29:49Speaker 2: the dress. I know I can afford it, and it's
- 29:52Speaker 2: in line with my values, and I'd be like, that's hot.
- 29:55Speaker 2: You justifying how many times you're going to wear it
- 29:57Speaker 2: and what cost per wear looks like and all of
- 29:59Speaker 2: these other things. I go, that's great, and I totally
- 30:02Speaker 2: think we should understand, like, Jesse, you buying a five
- 30:05Speaker 2: hundred dollar dress, Like we really do need to talk
- 30:07Speaker 2: about this, you gon know, wear it often? Or is
- 30:09Speaker 2: this like a once off kind of thing, Like let's
- 30:12Speaker 2: justify the purchase in that way, but like, let's not
- 30:14Speaker 2: distill it down to you justifying a purchase you didn't
- 30:17Speaker 2: need to make, because it's frivolous. Like you're smart. I
- 30:20Speaker 2: know you've got a budget for your clothing. I know
- 30:23Speaker 2: that's a value to you because you're literally the most
- 30:26Speaker 2: fashionable person I've ever met. And it's really frustrating because
- 30:29Speaker 2: I always look like a foot But it's one of
- 30:32Speaker 2: those things where you go, well, actually, Jesse is really
- 30:35Speaker 2: financially savvy, and if she's got a new dress, like,
- 30:37Speaker 2: no one should be questioning her because I know she's
- 30:39Speaker 2: made good financial decisions. And that's how everybody should be
- 30:42Speaker 2: respected when it comes to financial decisions, not looking at
- 30:44Speaker 2: them being like Victoria gets eyelash extensions. That's a little
- 30:48Speaker 2: bit silly, do you know what I mean? I just
- 30:50Speaker 2: think we're smarter than this, and in a world where
- 30:53Speaker 2: we are still constantly battling to be respected as women
- 30:58Speaker 2: in the finance space, to be respected as good investors
- 31:01Speaker 2: or smart savers. I don't think now is actually the
- 31:04Speaker 2: time that we can joke about women being frivolous with money,
- 31:07Speaker 2: like we're not there yet. Isn't actually a joke. It's
- 31:09Speaker 2: an underlying factor that is left over from the patriarchy
- 31:14Speaker 2: being better at things. And that's why men find it funny. Right,
- 31:18Speaker 2: It's not because we are actually good at money and
- 31:21Speaker 2: we're like, ah, oh my god, Yess, you're so bad
- 31:24Speaker 2: with money. If I laugh with Jess about being bad
- 31:26Speaker 2: with money, it's because I know she's bloody good at it.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Whereas that permission by having that conversation on a grander
- 31:33Speaker 2: scale might make people think, oh, well, Jess just calculates
- 31:37Speaker 2: that by it cost per wear, And I totally looked
- 31:39Speaker 2: at this five hundred dollars dress and I'm actually gonna
- 31:40Speaker 2: wear it like five hundred times, So that makes the
- 31:42Speaker 2: dress like a dollar so that doesn't matter, and I
- 31:44Speaker 2: totally can justify it that way, and then they pop
- 31:46Speaker 2: it on their credit card. Like, I think, this narrative
- 31:50Speaker 2: of not being smart financially it is going to give
- 31:53Speaker 2: too many people permission to not be smart financially.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Right, So with the tax retam. What you're saying is
- 32:00Speaker 3: make smart money, does it?
- 32:01Speaker 2: Yeah? Don't be like, oh my gosh, I deserve new dresses,
- 32:04Speaker 2: I deserve to do this, or oh my gosh, I
- 32:06Speaker 2: deserve a weekend away. Let's actually look at your financial position.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Do you have an emergency fund? Yes, fantastic? Is it
- 32:15Speaker 2: completely topped up? Have you reviewed your expenses recently? Because
- 32:19Speaker 2: we always say aim between three and six months or
- 32:22Speaker 2: like whatever you're most comfortable with. Those are just guidelines,
- 32:25Speaker 2: nothing set in stone, but people like guidelines, so we
- 32:28Speaker 2: always give them. Have your expenses changed significantly recently with
- 32:32Speaker 2: the increasing cost of living, but also like your mortgage
- 32:35Speaker 2: repayments or something, do we need to look at that?
- 32:36Speaker 2: Is that still reflective of your actual cost over three months?
- 32:41Speaker 2: The answer is yes, oh fantastic, Jessica. What else are
- 32:45Speaker 2: you working towards? You haven't bought a house yet. Could
- 32:48Speaker 2: that go towards your house deposit and get you a
- 32:50Speaker 2: little bit closer? Could that, you know, go to a
- 32:52Speaker 2: million other things. I don't think it's bad to carve
- 32:54Speaker 2: off a little bit as a treaty tree. Yeah, treaty tree,
- 32:58Speaker 2: But I think that just blowing your entire tax return
- 33:01Speaker 2: on a new handbag when you're not in a financial
- 33:04Speaker 2: position to do that, because you're like, oh, it's not
- 33:06Speaker 2: actually real money, it's like fake money. It's just my
- 33:09Speaker 2: tax return. Actually, my friend, that is money that you earned.
- 33:12Speaker 2: That is real money that you earned, that was put
- 33:15Speaker 2: aside for you to pay taxes, and now it's not.
- 33:19Speaker 2: So it's kind of like a bonus to get you
- 33:21Speaker 2: ahead financially. Now you're deciding that that's not what you
- 33:24Speaker 2: want to do with it. Again, educated decisions. You want
- 33:27Speaker 2: to go buy a handbag with it, you do, you, babe,
- 33:29Speaker 2: But at least you know that you're in a financially
- 33:32Speaker 2: secure position. And I promise future you was going to
- 33:35Speaker 2: thank you if you put yourself in a position where
- 33:37Speaker 2: you have an emergency fund where you didn't have it,
- 33:39Speaker 2: because whether that is five dollars or five hundred dollars
- 33:43Speaker 2: that you didn't have yesterday, future you, when they need that,
- 33:46Speaker 2: they can be like, oh my gosh, that was so
- 33:48Speaker 2: smart of me to put that to the side. Yeah guaranteed.
- 33:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I reckon, she's going to do something smart because
- 33:52Speaker 3: she knew she's obviously she.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Knew, lady.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Yes, I feel like that was just a little nice
- 33:58Speaker 3: pep talk.
- 33:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I like Faithan's all right, let's move on. We
- 34:02Speaker 2: have a not as spicy as usual. DN, That's okay,
- 34:08Speaker 2: but it's still interesting. A topical conversation, okay, where I
- 34:13Speaker 2: think it's going to divide the room? Maybe are you ready?
- 34:18Speaker 2: So this week our community dilemma is this message that
- 34:21Speaker 2: we received, Hi team. I currently rent a home with
- 34:25Speaker 2: my husband and two children, and with recent rent increases
- 34:28Speaker 2: and my self on maternity leave, we're living paycheck to
- 34:31Speaker 2: paycheck with basically no savings. My lovely parents have offered
- 34:36Speaker 2: to have us move into their home, but the thought
- 34:38Speaker 2: of moving my family of for into the space of
- 34:41Speaker 2: two bedrooms, and if I'm being honest, the thought of
- 34:44Speaker 2: moving back in with my parents is one that I'm
- 34:47Speaker 2: not sure I love. How do you decide between getting
- 34:50Speaker 2: ahead financially and your pride and your comfort? Ooh, do
- 34:55Speaker 2: you want to go first?
- 34:57Speaker 3: I mean, it's so hard because I guess it depends
- 34:59Speaker 3: on what your definition of paycheck to paycheck is. Because
- 35:04Speaker 3: I can understand if you are literally like down to
- 35:06Speaker 3: your if we're taking it like quite literally, and you're
- 35:09Speaker 3: like I have every dollar accounted for, I'm barely scraping by.
- 35:13Speaker 3: I can't do anything fun. I'm really stress to me.
- 35:17Speaker 3: It's a really obvious choice to move back in with
- 35:19Speaker 3: your parents, and I guess it is.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Also massively privileged, very privileged, but.
- 35:23Speaker 3: Also largely dependent on your relationship with your parents too,
- 35:27Speaker 3: because I suppose if you're moving into right now, it
- 35:30Speaker 3: sounds fantastic, it's so kind of them to offer that
- 35:33Speaker 3: to you. But if you have a difficult relationship, or
- 35:36Speaker 3: historically you've had a difficult relationship, that could be compounded
- 35:39Speaker 3: by being in close quarters all of the time, And
- 35:42Speaker 3: so I guess that is a factor to consider as well.
- 35:45Speaker 3: I mean, if that is manageable, I feel I go
- 35:48Speaker 3: for it. That's not something a lot of people have
- 35:50Speaker 3: the option of. Not everybody's parents can accommodate them. Not
- 35:53Speaker 3: everyone's parents will accommodate them. The amount of money, even
- 35:56Speaker 3: if it was a short period of time that you
- 35:58Speaker 3: could potentially save, even if you were still contributing to bills,
- 36:02Speaker 3: If you're splitting bills between your parents and your family
- 36:04Speaker 3: rather than just paying them yourself, that's still gonna put
- 36:08Speaker 3: you quite far ahead. So it's kind of like short
- 36:10Speaker 3: term pay, long term gain. Yeah, but for some people.
- 36:12Speaker 3: They might love their family. They might be like, oh
- 36:14Speaker 3: my god, movie nights free babysitting, Like it's gonna be
- 36:17Speaker 3: like the Brady Bunching.
- 36:19Speaker 2: My girlfriends literally ended up buying a house that was
- 36:23Speaker 2: two houses stuck together so that she could be that
- 36:26Speaker 2: close with her parents in law. That's cute, and I
- 36:29Speaker 2: think that is so wholesome, like so incredible.
- 36:33Speaker 3: No, not for me, but I.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Love Steve's parents, but I cannot imagine being that close
- 36:41Speaker 2: to other people. But then there are people that are like, no, babe,
- 36:44Speaker 2: I thrive on that. It's literally the best thing. Our
- 36:47Speaker 2: kids are obsessed with just having their grandparents downstairs. And
- 36:51Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, that sounds amazing for you, And.
- 36:55Speaker 3: I guess that's where the comfort thing really comes in.
- 36:56Speaker 3: There is if you're someone who really I'm very introveted.
- 36:59Speaker 3: I like having my space. That's what I need to recharge.
- 37:02Speaker 3: Adding more people into that situation for me would suck.
- 37:05Speaker 2: You can move in with me, It's okay, Yeah, you
- 37:07Speaker 2: can't bring your cats because then there would be two
- 37:10Speaker 2: four D dog Actually no, I mean I'm for that.
- 37:13Speaker 2: I've changed my mind. We'll convinced Eve.
- 37:16Speaker 3: We'll figure it out. But yeah, like for some people,
- 37:19Speaker 3: I can see why you would be concerned as well,
- 37:22Speaker 3: and it can be a hard thing to say, Like
- 37:23Speaker 3: if your parents have said, oh, like you can move
- 37:25Speaker 3: in with us, it's also hard to then justify to
- 37:28Speaker 3: them why you wouldn't want to do that without really
- 37:31Speaker 3: like you, yeah, like, that's not what I'm saying. It's
- 37:35Speaker 3: just my space and my time and my like where
- 37:37Speaker 3: do we put our stuff?
- 37:37Speaker 2: I'm an adult now. Yeah, it's it's a hard conversation
- 37:40Speaker 2: to have as well. What are your thoughts?
- 37:43Speaker 4: It's such a tough one because I guess exactly what
- 37:45Speaker 4: you're saying, Like, what is the dynamic here? If you
- 37:49Speaker 4: have parents who I guess like you're kind of walking
- 37:53Speaker 4: around the house not wanting to upset them, would you
- 37:56Speaker 4: feel like you have the kind of relationship where they
- 37:57Speaker 4: maybe don't respect your boundaries, They're coming into your personal
- 38:00Speaker 4: space a lot of the time. Would they be offended
- 38:02Speaker 4: if you need alone time after spending a lot of
- 38:05Speaker 4: time with them, Do you feel like you just be
- 38:07Speaker 4: constantly anxious that you've upset them at some point? I
- 38:12Speaker 4: just don't think I would want to live like that.
- 38:14Speaker 4: If that's the relationship that you have. But if you
- 38:18Speaker 4: have like super crazy parents, like they are totally totally
- 38:22Speaker 4: respected boundaries, they can give you all the pricy you need.
- 38:25Speaker 4: They understand that you have your own family, and they
- 38:28Speaker 4: understand that people need space and time, and they can
- 38:31Speaker 4: be grumpy, they can be happy all these things. If
- 38:33Speaker 4: they're completely accepting of that, and you're not worried about anything,
- 38:37Speaker 4: then like, sure, do it.
- 38:38Speaker 3: Oh you know what I mean.
- 38:40Speaker 2: I understand it's way more to it.
- 38:41Speaker 4: Of course, like reducing your space to just two bedrooms,
- 38:45Speaker 4: so the comfort there is something that you'd have to
- 38:47Speaker 4: really compromise.
- 38:49Speaker 2: But exactly exactly what you're saying, like a little.
- 38:52Speaker 4: Bit, just do it for a little bit of time,
- 38:53Speaker 4: save up some money, wait unto you're comfortable, go back
- 38:56Speaker 4: out there and try again, and then if you get
- 39:00Speaker 4: down the dragon or whatever the.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Song says, that's the song to be listening to right now.
- 39:08Speaker 4: But exactly right, Jessica, I do actually tend to agree
- 39:11Speaker 4: with you for this one. Just if you have the
- 39:14Speaker 4: resources to stay with your parents and you have that
- 39:16Speaker 4: ability to take advantage for a little while, unless it
- 39:20Speaker 4: will really stress you out, then it's not worth it.
- 39:23Speaker 2: What do you reckon bed I'm probably a little bit
- 39:25Speaker 2: more planned.
- 39:27Speaker 3: Okay, I'm proper.
- 39:29Speaker 2: I don't think any of you are going to see
- 39:31Speaker 2: this coming, but I would want you to make a plan.
- 39:34Speaker 2: So I want you to actually sit down and not
- 39:36Speaker 2: make a decision yet, like do a pros and CON's
- 39:39Speaker 2: list of like what are all the benefits of moving in?
- 39:41Speaker 2: And then what are the cons? Like be savage because
- 39:44Speaker 2: those things could make or break relationships.
- 39:48Speaker 3: Don't leave it anywhere anyone could read.
- 39:49Speaker 2: It, burn it, put it in your phone, and then
- 39:51Speaker 2: backspace it once you're done. Like the CON's list doesn't
- 39:56Speaker 2: need to see the light of day. But you need
- 39:57Speaker 2: to sit down with your partner in this circumstance, all right,
- 40:00Speaker 2: yess what's the worst thing? And Jess could be like
- 40:03Speaker 2: v I literally hate it when Steve xyzs and I'll
- 40:07Speaker 2: be like, whoop, don't tell Steve that's good to have
- 40:09Speaker 2: on the list. So I think it's important to look
- 40:11Speaker 2: at your pros and cons and then make a plan
- 40:14Speaker 2: and be really clear on that plan. So why are
- 40:17Speaker 2: you making this decision? Because if you go, oh, Beck,
- 40:20Speaker 2: you can move back in with me to save a
- 40:22Speaker 2: bit of money, and you go, yeah, no worries well
- 40:23Speaker 2: what does that mean, Like, look at your budget, to
- 40:27Speaker 2: a comprehensive budget and sit down and go all right, well,
- 40:30Speaker 2: if we're not paying rent for this period of time,
- 40:32Speaker 2: we're going to save twelve hundred dollars two and a
- 40:35Speaker 2: half thousand dollars a month. Whatever that looks like. Is
- 40:39Speaker 2: that feasible? What other fees and charges and other things
- 40:42Speaker 2: in the background. Might we have to.
- 40:43Speaker 3: Pay storage for your furniture or something, all of.
- 40:46Speaker 2: That kind of stuff. But also I would be adding
- 40:49Speaker 2: in some personal time too. You know, obviously you need
- 40:52Speaker 2: to be discussing this with your parents because there's kids involved.
- 40:55Speaker 2: But I'm going to make the grand assumption that if
- 40:57Speaker 2: you're living under the same roof as somebody else, you're
- 41:00Speaker 2: probably going to want maybe like an extra date night
- 41:02Speaker 2: or something away from that dynamic to make it more
- 41:05Speaker 2: palatable in the long term. Yes, good work. You're going
- 41:08Speaker 2: to sit down and work out Okay, Well, Jess and
- 41:11Speaker 2: I've worked out that if we move our family back
- 41:13Speaker 2: in with my parents, we're going to save twenty five
- 41:16Speaker 2: hundred dollars a month at a minimum. How much do
- 41:18Speaker 2: we want to save? What is the goal here? Like,
- 41:21Speaker 2: are we just saving for a month. Are we saving
- 41:23Speaker 2: for three months? Are we saving for six months? Are
- 41:26Speaker 2: we saving a whole house deposit? If we are saving
- 41:28Speaker 2: a whole house deposit, what does that look like? Is
- 41:31Speaker 2: that ten thousand dollars? Is it one hundred thousand dollars?
- 41:33Speaker 2: I'm going to move back in with my parents to
- 41:35Speaker 2: do your whole house deposit and that's going to be
- 41:37Speaker 2: four years? What does that actually look like? And I
- 41:41Speaker 2: would say shameless plug use the she's on the money
- 41:44Speaker 2: goal setting activity, which means that you are specific, optimistic,
- 41:48Speaker 2: time bound, and then also measurable. So the measurable part
- 41:52Speaker 2: will come in. If you say you're saving twenty five
- 41:54Speaker 2: hundred dollars a month and you need to get to
- 41:57Speaker 2: ten thousand dollars, what will that look like? It's that
- 42:00Speaker 2: time frame. Then once you've done your plan, you're going
- 42:04Speaker 2: to hide the cons list because if you've then decided
- 42:07Speaker 2: to move in with your parents, just delete all of that. Yeah,
- 42:10Speaker 2: pretend it didn't happen, and then you're going to go, hey,
- 42:12Speaker 2: mom and dad, before we move in, can we just
- 42:14Speaker 2: have a really big chat about what this means, because
- 42:17Speaker 2: we really flip it. We really want to respect your boundaries,
- 42:21Speaker 2: not take advantage of the home that you own and
- 42:24Speaker 2: understand what that would mean, because they might go, oh, one,
- 42:27Speaker 2: that's really thoughtful, but two they probably haven't thought about it.
- 42:31Speaker 2: Is there anything like my parents? My parents would jump
- 42:35Speaker 2: at the chance to have Steve and I move back in.
- 42:37Speaker 2: That's cute. Like they would be like, yep, yep, come live,
- 42:40Speaker 2: come stay, like we hear from them often when you
- 42:43Speaker 2: come to stay with us, when you're coming down, when
- 42:45Speaker 2: are you going to And that's so kind and I
- 42:48Speaker 2: adore it, But I would want to be like, okay, cool,
- 42:51Speaker 2: Like what would be the dynamic of cooking every night?
- 42:54Speaker 2: Especially if I have two young kids? Because there's more
- 42:57Speaker 2: of us now than of my parents, So is there
- 42:59Speaker 2: an expectation and that you know we're contributing a bit
- 43:01Speaker 2: more Mum and dad, don't worry, we'll do all the cooking.
- 43:04Speaker 2: We'll just jointly fund groceries. You guys have basically private
- 43:08Speaker 2: chef now money when life, when domestic chores? How's the
- 43:14Speaker 2: house going to stay clean? Can we talk about these
- 43:17Speaker 2: things and set some really realistic boundaries and expectations before
- 43:21Speaker 2: moving in, Because what if you're not as thoughtful as
- 43:25Speaker 2: Jess Jess? Oh, my god, if you moved in with her,
- 43:28Speaker 2: she just like clean your room too. But what if
- 43:31Speaker 2: you're not that thoughtful, and you've got your two kids
- 43:34Speaker 2: running around and your husband that maybe isn't that good
- 43:36Speaker 2: at domestic work, and then your mom's like far out
- 43:39Speaker 2: and cleaning up after them all the time. That's not fair.
- 43:42Speaker 2: So I think having these conversations up front, having a
- 43:46Speaker 2: time frame, having a desired outcome for why we are
- 43:49Speaker 2: doing that is one going to mean going into the
- 43:52Speaker 2: house would be easier, But also it keeps your eye
- 43:56Speaker 2: on the prize when you're there and things are hard.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Oh yes, it doesn't really matter, Like, do you know
- 44:01Speaker 2: we're halfway to that home deposit? Do you know we're
- 44:04Speaker 2: halfway to that emergency fund? Oh so much for Okay,
- 44:07Speaker 2: well maybe we'll use fifty bucks and we'll go get
- 44:10Speaker 2: a pizza and needed in the park together and just
- 44:12Speaker 2: get out of this house for a bit. Yeah, does
- 44:14Speaker 2: that make sense? So you need really clear boundaries, really
- 44:17Speaker 2: clear goals, and understanding what that actually means. When everybody else,
- 44:21Speaker 2: oh my gosh, everybody had such colorful opinions. All right,
- 44:24Speaker 2: So first we asked our community, have you moved back
- 44:26Speaker 2: in with your parents. Fifty three percent of you said yes,
- 44:29Speaker 2: Oh Genesis. We said if yes, how long for? So
- 44:33Speaker 2: this was pretty split. Twenty percent of you said one
- 44:35Speaker 2: to three months, twenty two percent said three to six,
- 44:38Speaker 2: twenty five percent said six to twelve, and thirty three
- 44:41Speaker 2: percent said for more than a year. We then had
- 44:43Speaker 2: a couple of dams, which I think were really irrelevant.
- 44:45Speaker 2: So someone said, I think it's worth looking at it
- 44:47Speaker 2: with your husband and making a plan. You're so smart.
- 44:49Speaker 2: I wish i'd thought of that, of what it could
- 44:52Speaker 2: look like if you moved back in with your parents.
- 44:53Speaker 2: It's a really great opportunity to get ahead and save
- 44:55Speaker 2: yourself some stress if you can to do it in
- 44:57Speaker 2: a way that you and your husband are comfortable with.
- 45:00Speaker 2: I'm guessing the added benefit could be some extra help
- 45:02Speaker 2: with the kids. Someone said, I recently moved in with
- 45:06Speaker 2: my partner and his mum after some hesitancy, But it's
- 45:09Speaker 2: actually been a game changer. Once you can see what
- 45:12Speaker 2: you can achieve with the extra money, it feels like
- 45:14Speaker 2: a weight has been lifted. If it is only temporary
- 45:17Speaker 2: to get ahead, keep reminding yourself that by this time
- 45:19Speaker 2: next year, or whatever your goal is, you'll actually own
- 45:22Speaker 2: your own space and will be X dollars better off,
- 45:25Speaker 2: with much more financial freedom and oververall a better quality
- 45:29Speaker 2: of life. I honestly think it is worth temporary discomfort
- 45:32Speaker 2: in order to achieve your lifelong goals.
- 45:35Speaker 3: No pain, no gain again.
- 45:37Speaker 2: Baby. Then in our little like reply box, which are
- 45:40Speaker 2: much shorter, so people said, I think so it's hard,
- 45:43Speaker 2: but it would be financially rewarding. Someone said, hell, no,
- 45:46Speaker 2: I'm not moving back in with my parents. I'll live
- 45:49Speaker 2: on the street. I said, talk with your partner and
- 45:53Speaker 2: if it's a yes, set a time limit on you
- 45:55Speaker 2: so mentally you know there's an end date. Someone said,
- 45:58Speaker 2: I moved back in with my parents to say for
- 45:59Speaker 2: he had fast to posit. It was painful, but we
- 46:01Speaker 2: saved seventy k Wowly. Someone said, financially it's a blessing,
- 46:07Speaker 2: but mentally might not be so healthy. You need to
- 46:10Speaker 2: set very strict boundaries.
- 46:12Speaker 3: The boundaries thing is a big one. It's like a
- 46:13Speaker 3: housemate thing. I'm like, what if your mum came in
- 46:15Speaker 3: and just like picked up your undies so your heartners undies,
- 46:17Speaker 3: so wash them for you because she's really nice. But
- 46:19Speaker 3: I would hate like I would just hate that.
- 46:20Speaker 2: My ex boyfriend's mum used to do that. Bless bless her.
- 46:23Speaker 2: She was the kindest person in the entire world. But
- 46:26Speaker 2: when you were in your very early twenties and your
- 46:31Speaker 2: boyfriend's mum at the time folds your G string and
- 46:33Speaker 2: puts it on the end of.
- 46:34Speaker 3: The bed, Oh my god, that's so cute.
- 46:38Speaker 2: You're moultified.
- 46:39Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the word.
- 46:40Speaker 2: Yeah, Like it's not a good feel like you're like, oh,
- 46:43Speaker 2: that's so nice.
- 46:45Speaker 3: Where did you find that?
- 46:50Speaker 2: You would be a surprised. I've never done it myself,
- 46:53Speaker 2: but she definitely did it, and it looked very pretty,
- 46:56Speaker 2: very perfect, and I really didn't want to face her everything.
- 47:00Speaker 3: That's understandable.
- 47:01Speaker 2: Someone said, I'm moving with my mum. It was an ideal,
- 47:04Speaker 2: but I can't afford to move back to Australia without
- 47:06Speaker 2: this option. So I just think there's lots of different
- 47:09Speaker 2: situations and lots of different outcomes. I think the general
- 47:12Speaker 2: consensus though, from our community is make a plan, understand
- 47:15Speaker 2: the pros and cons set boundaries, and understand your end goal.
- 47:19Speaker 2: It's not just me, guys. Yes, perfect advice. We're trying
- 47:23Speaker 2: our best and to be honest, if you can do
- 47:27Speaker 2: it. It's kind of genius to save money. Pretty French is
- 47:31Speaker 2: expensive if you could save that amount per month like
- 47:34Speaker 2: no amount option, short term pain, long term gay. That's
- 47:39Speaker 2: it all right, guys, I think we are done here.
