- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, my name's Santasha Nabananga Bamblet. I'm a proud yr
- 0:04Speaker 1: the Order Kerni Whoalbury and a waddery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it. She's on the Money.
- 0:36Speaker 3: She's on the Money.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to The Money, the podcast for millennials
- 1:02Speaker 2: who want financial freedom. Today, my friends, it is Friday,
- 1:06Speaker 2: but it is not your average Friday. Today's my last
- 1:10Speaker 2: day for a little while. I'm going on matrinity leave.
- 1:13Speaker 3: That's exciting, but it's exciting.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Yes, I completely agree with what Jessa said.
- 1:19Speaker 5: Oh thank you you're social that I wasn't listening at
- 1:23Speaker 5: all and I didn't do anything You've.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Never listened to before. Why stop now or why start now?
- 1:29Speaker 2: We'll start now. I'm really excited. Actually, obviously, today is
- 1:33Speaker 2: about getting our little team together, celebrating our community. That's
- 1:36Speaker 2: my favorite thing to do. But also we just have
- 1:39Speaker 2: so much in store. We didn't want Fridays to just
- 1:42Speaker 2: fall off the bandwagon because I wasn't here. We have
- 1:45Speaker 2: some beautiful guests lined up that are going to take
- 1:49Speaker 2: my place, not necessarily as host, but more is like,
- 1:53Speaker 2: you guys get a fun friend every week, which I
- 1:56Speaker 2: think will be really cool. I've pulled them out of
- 1:58Speaker 2: either our She's on the Money community or my friend
- 2:00Speaker 2: ship circles, and I just think this is gonna be
- 2:02Speaker 2: the best. In fact, I'm slightly concerned that the community
- 2:06Speaker 2: is gonna like these more and be like me, don't
- 2:09Speaker 2: come back. It's all good. So we're having a lot
- 2:11Speaker 2: of fun with your guest episodes. Can we just keep those?
- 2:15Speaker 2: So if that's the case, obviously, please let us know
- 2:18Speaker 2: kindly kindly, because like, I'm itching to get back and
- 2:22Speaker 2: I haven't even left, but I think that you guys
- 2:25Speaker 2: are gonna have the best time while I am away
- 2:27Speaker 2: having a bambini. It's not white.
- 2:29Speaker 4: It is so wild.
- 2:31Speaker 2: It feels fake still, like I cannot comprehend that there
- 2:34Speaker 2: is an entire human being in my stomach. Right now.
- 2:37Speaker 2: I can't comprehended at three am when they're kicking the lungs,
- 2:41Speaker 2: but like you know, day to day it feels very novel.
- 2:45Speaker 2: But let's get into today's episode. Miss Jess Gricci, you
- 2:47Speaker 2: have a heap of our favorite money wins. Miss becksay ed,
- 2:50Speaker 2: you've got some broke tips, three of them I believe,
- 2:52Speaker 2: to share with the community. We're going to be helping
- 2:54Speaker 2: to answer juicy money dilemma, which this week is all
- 2:57Speaker 2: about having bad neighbors. And are we gonna unpack something
- 3:01Speaker 2: that you slid into our d MS about this week?
- 3:03Speaker 2: You asked what to do about friends who store things
- 3:06Speaker 2: at your house long term and offer no money in return?
- 3:10Speaker 3: Juicy.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I feel like that's a really hard one, that is
- 3:14Speaker 2: so juicy joicy. But before we get there, I'm sorry,
- 3:17Speaker 2: did we go to Taylor Swift on the weekend?
- 3:20Speaker 3: Yes?
- 3:21Speaker 2: We did? Over?
- 3:22Speaker 3: Absolutely not over.
- 3:24Speaker 5: I feel like a lot of people are probably like, yes,
- 3:26Speaker 5: it's over, I'll never gonna hear about it.
- 3:27Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I got through that whole intro of the podcast with
- 3:30Speaker 2: not even mentioning Taylor Swift. Thank you, Beck's already over us. No, No,
- 3:36Speaker 2: I'll hear it over and over again till the day
- 3:38Speaker 2: I die. Yeah, you will, and you will take it.
- 3:41Speaker 6: You will like it.
- 3:43Speaker 2: That's the joy.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Said that, and without saying like whether it's a good
- 3:45Speaker 4: or a bad thing, but I will hear about it.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Your choice. How's your week being? Are you still high
- 3:54Speaker 2: as a kite? Absolutely?
- 3:55Speaker 1: I am.
- 3:56Speaker 5: It was so much fun, just, you know, seeing everybody
- 4:00Speaker 5: in one space be so excited for her biggest show.
- 4:03Speaker 2: And we went to the biggest show.
- 4:04Speaker 3: We went to the biggest show. It was so exciting.
- 4:07Speaker 5: There's so much going on, and I just like, I can't, like,
- 4:09Speaker 5: I don't have the words.
- 4:10Speaker 2: I know that not everybody in our community is a
- 4:12Speaker 2: swifty though, so we won't go on and on and on.
- 4:15Speaker 2: That's what our socials are for. So head over there
- 4:17Speaker 2: and you will see relentless amounts of content. Beck, you
- 4:21Speaker 2: didn't go to Taylor Swift because you just don't care
- 4:23Speaker 2: about Taylor Swift, which is honestly a foreign concept to
- 4:26Speaker 2: the other people at this table right now. How was
- 4:29Speaker 2: your week?
- 4:30Speaker 4: So my week has been. I should have gone before, Jess,
- 4:34Speaker 4: because you know, I can't say that I saw any
- 4:36Speaker 4: famous people actually except for you guys.
- 4:38Speaker 2: I think you're technically famous. I don't think we can.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Definitely, I'm definitely not you probably are.
- 4:43Speaker 2: You got stopped in public Miss jessic Ricci.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Mostly with you, they're like, hey, can you Or when
- 4:50Speaker 3: I'm with Lucy, oh yes, she is the most famous.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Like hey, I don't know your name, but can you take
- 4:54Speaker 4: a photo for us?
- 4:55Speaker 2: Is that what they usually say. I'm still convinced that
- 4:57Speaker 2: half the people in this office don't know my name,
- 4:59Speaker 2: but they definitely know my dog and the amount of
- 5:01Speaker 2: people that I run into in the kitchen who are
- 5:03Speaker 2: like Lucy's mom. Yeah, And I'm just like mm hmm, yeah,
- 5:05Speaker 2: I'm perfect. I'm happy with that. Sure me, that's me.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I'm proud. I'm a proud Lucy mum. Oh my god.
- 5:12Speaker 2: It's so exciting.
- 5:13Speaker 4: I've been stopped like two times, not stopped stopped, but
- 5:16Speaker 4: like people have been like, wow, I think I recognize you,
- 5:19Speaker 4: and I just want everyone listening to know. I want
- 5:21Speaker 4: to be bothered on the streets please say hi, because
- 5:25Speaker 4: it makes my whole entire life anyway so so exciting.
- 5:29Speaker 4: But that hasn't happened to me in many a month,
- 5:32Speaker 4: and certainly not this week. No, my week otherwise has
- 5:35Speaker 4: been very very lovely, just chill, you know, just cruising,
- 5:38Speaker 4: just like love and love, seeing friends and as always
- 5:41Speaker 4: and people probably seeing me saying this, still going to
- 5:44Speaker 4: the gym. I don't know if you can tell, but you.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Know, getting swoll am, I getting swollen? Thank you?
- 5:50Speaker 2: What about you?
- 5:50Speaker 4: VD.
- 5:51Speaker 2: I'm going to go back to this meeting people in
- 5:53Speaker 2: public thing because I have to issue a public apology
- 5:55Speaker 2: to the girl that stopped me two weeks ago out
- 5:58Speaker 2: the front of Romana IgA. And she was so kind
- 6:02Speaker 2: and so nice and she's like, oh my gosh, and
- 6:05Speaker 2: I was like, I always meet you with the same energy,
- 6:07Speaker 2: because like, I think it's wild that people think seeing
- 6:10Speaker 2: me as wild. So I was like, oh my gosh, hi,
- 6:12Speaker 2: and they're like wait what, and she's like, I love
- 6:14Speaker 2: your podcast.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Rah.
- 6:16Speaker 2: But I was actually standing there and I'd had a
- 6:18Speaker 2: mid morning freak out about not having my hospital bags packed.
- 6:23Speaker 2: So I'm walking out of IgA and I'm carrying two
- 6:28Speaker 2: packets of adult nappies, a bag full of snacks and treats,
- 6:33Speaker 2: and a whole heap of stuff I think I had
- 6:35Speaker 2: ural in my bag. I was carrying a bottle of
- 6:39Speaker 2: Gaviscon and this poor girl got me at my worst
- 6:43Speaker 2: literally because I had had not just like a little
- 6:45Speaker 2: bit of a like, oh, I probably should pack my
- 6:47Speaker 2: hospital bags. I had a hysterical meltdown. And my husband
- 6:51Speaker 2: was like, just go to the shops and get the
- 6:52Speaker 2: things that you think you need and we'll put them together.
- 6:54Speaker 3: And I was like, okay, you know, worries.
- 6:57Speaker 2: So I was red faced, I was sniffy, my hair
- 6:59Speaker 2: was on top of my head because I was a
- 7:00Speaker 2: little feral, and I was carrying outult nappies and she
- 7:03Speaker 2: was still excited to see me. So shout out to
- 7:06Speaker 2: you also, apologies for whatever you experienced in that interactions.
- 7:09Speaker 4: So I would be excited to see that version of you.
- 7:11Speaker 4: To be honest, Oh you have before.
- 7:13Speaker 2: You've been too kind not to mention it. That's true actually,
- 7:17Speaker 2: But yes, I have had a good week, same as Jessica.
- 7:20Speaker 2: But the anticipation of having a baby is I.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Don't know, it's startlingly more exciting.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what, I'm just glad that I didn't
- 7:27Speaker 2: ruin the Tailor Swift concert, like so like some women
- 7:30Speaker 2: had to stop the Pink concert. I'm just glad that
- 7:32Speaker 2: wasn't me.
- 7:33Speaker 5: You know. Wow, I don't know, like I'm really on
- 7:35Speaker 5: the fence, like some people like that would be so
- 7:37Speaker 5: exciting and fun and what a good memory. And I
- 7:39Speaker 5: just think I would be so mortified to imagine, however,
- 7:42Speaker 5: many Hunter people looking at you while you're like arguably
- 7:45Speaker 5: in extreme din comfort.
- 7:48Speaker 4: Absolutely funny was that around the time that people were
- 7:50Speaker 4: giving Pink random items and someone gave their baby to
- 7:52Speaker 4: Pink on stage.
- 7:53Speaker 2: No, this was truly like three weeks ago. Oh I see,
- 7:56Speaker 2: I guess yeah, like wild. Anyway, let's get into the episode.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Miss Jessagricci, what have you got when it comes to
- 8:02Speaker 2: community money wins.
- 8:03Speaker 5: My first money in this week comes from Holly, who
- 8:06Speaker 5: said she went to the Lifeline book fair and filled
- 8:08Speaker 5: a whole bag full of books for thirty five dollars.
- 8:12Speaker 5: She says she got about thirty different books and she
- 8:15Speaker 5: used money that was in a pickiebank, so girl Math
- 8:17Speaker 5: says that they were free. She said, when I'm done
- 8:19Speaker 5: with them, I will likely donate them back to Lifeline
- 8:21Speaker 5: to on sale again at the next book fair. Lifeline
- 8:24Speaker 5: in Canberra, which I missumean is where she's from, is
- 8:27Speaker 5: a twenty four to seven suicide telephone and crisis support
- 8:29Speaker 5: Center and it's a big fundraiser that they hold every
- 8:31Speaker 5: couple of months.
- 8:32Speaker 2: So adore that.
- 8:33Speaker 5: Good for our fellow book lovers, great for you know,
- 8:36Speaker 5: supporting a good cause.
- 8:37Speaker 3: We love to see it. Well done, Holly.
- 8:39Speaker 5: Next, I've got one from Stacy who said my son
- 8:42Speaker 5: wanted a mister Potato Head and they are fifty plus
- 8:44Speaker 5: dollars at the shops.
- 8:45Speaker 7: What.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Firstly, since when was mister Potatohead so expensive?
- 8:48Speaker 2: Also, secondly, I didn't know who still existed.
- 8:50Speaker 5: Inflation's wild, she said, but I found one for free
- 8:55Speaker 5: on Facebook marketplace. Her son lost most of the pieces
- 8:58Speaker 5: and his interest a week later, so she's very glad
- 9:01Speaker 5: that she didn't spend the fifty bucks. Money win, huge
- 9:04Speaker 5: money win. Well, now I've got one from Renee who said,
- 9:06Speaker 5: I went to Mecca to get foundation color atched. They
- 9:09Speaker 5: gave me three free sample pots of my shades I
- 9:11Speaker 5: can generately out before committing to a whole bottle, and
- 9:14Speaker 5: those sample pots will last you yox like absolutely eight es.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Okay, that's a little bit of a broke tip. Actually,
- 9:22Speaker 2: if it's not payday and you're you know you've got
- 9:25Speaker 2: a bit too much month at the end of your
- 9:27Speaker 2: money going into Mecca and being like, hey, can I
- 9:30Speaker 2: have a sample of XYZ that'll last you till the
- 9:32Speaker 2: end of your month?
- 9:33Speaker 5: That's so true to file that right away for later
- 9:36Speaker 5: back Yeah, sorry, sorry. Next, I've got a money win
- 9:40Speaker 5: from Laura who said small win. I got my moving
- 9:42Speaker 5: boxes for free off marketplace instead of buying them. Big
- 9:45Speaker 5: when I'm getting a rental for ten dollars less per
- 9:48Speaker 5: week than what it was advertised, which is huge. Never
- 9:50Speaker 5: heard of that happening. Cool, Please, for the love of God,
- 9:52Speaker 5: never buy moving boxes. That industry is such a scam.
- 9:56Speaker 5: Don't buy moving boxes. You can get them for free
- 9:58Speaker 5: at Bunnings. If you go into literally I'm sure if
- 10:00Speaker 5: that is before any retail store ever and say hey,
- 10:03Speaker 5: can I grab some of your boxes? They'll give them
- 10:05Speaker 5: to you.
- 10:05Speaker 2: They want to get rid of them because they don't
- 10:07Speaker 2: have anywhere to put them.
- 10:08Speaker 3: I would say, they don't want to have to lug
- 10:10Speaker 3: them to the bin. It's the worst.
- 10:11Speaker 5: So if you say hey, can I grab some boxes,
- 10:13Speaker 5: they'll probably say yeah, come back on Tuesday, that's delivery
- 10:16Speaker 5: day and you can have as many as you want.
- 10:18Speaker 5: So I use garbage bags also, I use laundry baskets
- 10:22Speaker 5: a lots coals bags, literally, anything that is not a
- 10:29Speaker 5: moving box that you paid for. Any vessel, any vessel
- 10:32Speaker 5: will do the palm of your head, your arms, we know,
- 10:36Speaker 5: whatever works. Lastly, I've got a money win from Zanpi,
- 10:39Speaker 5: who said I found out my counsel does rebates for
- 10:42Speaker 5: purchasing reusable period products. Luckily I still had my receipts
- 10:45Speaker 5: from the Christmas sales. I don't know what council, but
- 10:50Speaker 5: check your local council website because that is phenomenal.
- 10:53Speaker 4: That's equity, my friends, is it? Or is that a
- 10:55Speaker 4: quality I don't know, booking or lost dos?
- 10:58Speaker 2: Yes, exactly.
- 11:00Speaker 3: I love that.
- 11:01Speaker 2: All right, Beck, what are you bringing to the table
- 11:03Speaker 2: when it comes to broke tips this week?
- 11:05Speaker 4: Okay, sorry, I'm filing this Mecca one away for but
- 11:09Speaker 4: also for my own life. I mean, I don't really
- 11:12Speaker 4: go there, but I will. Starting to say.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Beck, do you wear makeup? Is that a thing in
- 11:15Speaker 2: your repertoire? I don't. Actually, it's like you just have
- 11:19Speaker 2: naturally gorgeous skin. You don't need it.
- 11:21Speaker 3: You such a good broke tip. Don't wear makeups.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Don't wear makeup. Yeah, break tip from Beck. Just have
- 11:27Speaker 2: skin as good as me. And you don't need makeup,
- 11:29Speaker 2: easy peasy. If I had her skin, I wouldn't wear
- 11:31Speaker 2: makeup either. Why would you break?
- 11:32Speaker 3: That is really sweet?
- 11:33Speaker 2: Thank you, and I was feeling that I wasn't. That
- 11:35Speaker 2: wasn't even a compliments, just a fact.
- 11:38Speaker 4: Well, I really appreciate it. Whatever it was, I'm very grateful.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Thanks. Thanks for the facts.
- 11:42Speaker 4: So, as always, there are two broke tips from the
- 11:45Speaker 4: community and one from myself.
- 11:47Speaker 2: So I'll start off with Natalie.
- 11:49Speaker 4: I know that we've mentioned Seven eleven coffees before, but
- 11:51Speaker 4: this one is kind of like an all round any
- 11:53Speaker 4: petrol station. So Natalie says, buy your coffee from petrol
- 11:56Speaker 4: stations a dollar fifty for a small armond cap. It's
- 11:58Speaker 4: not the worst thing in the world. I have seen
- 12:00Speaker 4: that it coals as well, especially one on Swan Street
- 12:03Speaker 4: in Richmond. If you live in Melbourne, they do. I
- 12:05Speaker 4: believe it's a dollar fifty or two dollars max for an.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Arm is still going to be an absolute stan of
- 12:11Speaker 2: the Seven eleven coffee.
- 12:13Speaker 4: Totally because they do do soy milk.
- 12:15Speaker 2: They just have They've nailed it.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Yes, they have old milk, regular milk, everything. It's all
- 12:21Speaker 4: the same price and it's no more than two dollars
- 12:23Speaker 4: if you just want.
- 12:24Speaker 2: I think my favorite thing about the seven eleven one
- 12:26Speaker 2: was on Chapel Street a couple of months ago. Seven
- 12:30Speaker 2: eleven did a pop up store of like an unbranded
- 12:33Speaker 2: cafe and they basically ghastly everybody. And that was my
- 12:36Speaker 2: favorite thing ever because you go in and they're like,
- 12:38Speaker 2: we're doing, you know, grand opening, free coffee, and you
- 12:41Speaker 2: go in and you relate the coffee, here's elite, so good,
- 12:44Speaker 2: and then on your way out, they gave you a
- 12:46Speaker 2: little like card and you scratched it and it told
- 12:48Speaker 2: you that it was seven eleven coffee. That is such
- 12:52Speaker 2: a idea. It was genius.
- 12:54Speaker 4: Can you believe that is two dollars or a dollar fifty?
- 12:57Speaker 4: It's so cheap five or so pay sometimes, yeah, totally,
- 13:01Speaker 4: like I pay sixty.
- 13:05Speaker 2: What This inflation is unacceptable. I know it's really really bad.
- 13:09Speaker 2: You know, I get it, but I'm mostly like I
- 13:11Speaker 2: don't get so much money. I don't get it. Like
- 13:14Speaker 2: as a girl who completely understands inflation, I understand the
- 13:17Speaker 2: cost of living crisis, I understand everything. Like at this point,
- 13:22Speaker 2: I'm going to need the government to subsidize coffee.
- 13:26Speaker 5: I'll get against that, as I say, I don't know
- 13:28Speaker 5: the Prime Minister is right now, get at but easy
- 13:32Speaker 5: on the phone.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I've got a bone to pick with you. My
- 13:36Speaker 2: coffees are a bit too expensive. And He'll be like, Victoria,
- 13:39Speaker 2: I'm actually working on the cost of living crisis right now.
- 13:41Speaker 2: And I'll be like, yes, but do you know it
- 13:43Speaker 2: costs a dollar extra to get oat milk? Sit down,
- 13:46Speaker 2: Sit down, alow. She put it on the top of
- 13:48Speaker 2: his priorities list. I'll call it. I'll call him once.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I definitely quit leave. I might pick that up. Yeah,
- 13:52Speaker 2: if you could.
- 13:52Speaker 4: I'm sure his numbers in your phone. What else you got, Okay,
- 13:55Speaker 4: Also just want to say that. Natalie also says, buy
- 13:57Speaker 4: iced coffee from an Asian groser. It's two dollars per pack.
- 14:00Speaker 4: Asian grocery is something I've been privy to, not privy
- 14:03Speaker 4: too because it has existed in my whole life, but
- 14:05Speaker 4: kind of been looking into recently because it is like,
- 14:07Speaker 4: you know, everything's all cheaper there.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Fines are so fresh.
- 14:10Speaker 5: I was.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Absolutely so fresh, and it's also so cheap. Anytime I'm
- 14:17Speaker 2: getting like, you know, Chinese broccoli or like any type
- 14:21Speaker 2: of greens, I will purposely go out of my way
- 14:23Speaker 2: because it lasts so much longer in my fridge. It's
- 14:26Speaker 2: like two dollars a bunch.
- 14:27Speaker 4: Yes, yes, yes, definitely shop at the Asian grocer.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Okay.
- 14:30Speaker 4: This next one comes from Catherine, who says the plant
- 14:33Speaker 4: Jammer app or similar gives you recipe ideas based on
- 14:35Speaker 4: what you already have in your fridge slash pantry, which
- 14:38Speaker 4: is a great idea something I mentioned recently, but I
- 14:40Speaker 4: didn't actually have an app for it. So the plant
- 14:42Speaker 4: Jammer app is good. If you don't want to go
- 14:44Speaker 4: to the shops and you don't know what to cook,
- 14:47Speaker 4: just chuck some things in the app and I will
- 14:49Speaker 4: tell you what to cook. And I think that's a
- 14:50Speaker 4: really greatita love it so my own one. I'm sure
- 14:54Speaker 4: you know, maybe you guys have tried this before.
- 14:55Speaker 2: I'm not too sure.
- 14:56Speaker 4: But so if you're wanting a little sweet tree, or
- 14:59Speaker 4: you're maybe hosting a dinner party, or you're bringing dessert
- 15:03Speaker 4: for a pot lucks, when you should.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Check the kitchen at work first because they might have cinnamon.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Do that.
- 15:09Speaker 4: We did happen upon some cinnamon scrolls in our work kitchen,
- 15:12Speaker 4: and what we did to deserve this.
- 15:14Speaker 2: We liberated them. There were pancakes earlier too. I don't
- 15:17Speaker 2: think we missed those.
- 15:20Speaker 4: But what I have found is if you go to
- 15:23Speaker 4: muff and Break before they close, maybe like thirty Gonna.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Getsh didn't know muff and Breaks still existed.
- 15:30Speaker 5: I know.
- 15:30Speaker 2: That's the other thing too, is that the sorry muff
- 15:32Speaker 2: and Break.
- 15:33Speaker 4: They're hard to come by now, but I am sure,
- 15:36Speaker 4: I like, I know this for a fact. Actually they
- 15:39Speaker 4: are the best muffins slash cookies I've eaten, and I
- 15:41Speaker 4: have not been able to find anything has good since.
- 15:43Speaker 4: I know that's a big call to make. That's a
- 15:45Speaker 4: huge call to make, but I love, love, love them anyway.
- 15:48Speaker 4: So you go there maybe like half an hour before
- 15:50Speaker 4: they're closing or just a little bit before, and they
- 15:52Speaker 4: usually have like super super cheap muffins, cookies, tasty treats,
- 15:58Speaker 4: and loads of them too. You can get five for
- 16:00Speaker 4: five dollars and that's totally and that's enough to like
- 16:04Speaker 4: take as a potluck dessert or whatever. But sometimes if
- 16:08Speaker 4: you're lucky, if they're in a good mood, they might
- 16:10Speaker 4: give them two for free.
- 16:11Speaker 2: I guess if it's.
- 16:12Speaker 5: Money means before the crack, maybe they'll chuck an extra
- 16:16Speaker 5: one in or something totally exactly.
- 16:18Speaker 2: So God, Muff and Break. Everyone, don't forget about Uff
- 16:20Speaker 2: and Break please. I did. I did, and I'm glad
- 16:24Speaker 2: that you've reminded me that they exist.
- 16:25Speaker 4: It sounds like we're sponsored, but honestly, like I just
- 16:27Speaker 4: I just love Muff and Break.
- 16:29Speaker 2: If we were sponsored, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have
- 16:31Speaker 2: said what I just said was sponsored. I'd be like, wait,
- 16:34Speaker 2: are they still around? Like Muff and Break are going
- 16:37Speaker 2: to be like, yeah, thanks for the mention. Next time,
- 16:39Speaker 2: could it be more positive? We love your stuff. Let's
- 16:43Speaker 2: wrap this up really quickly and go to a little
- 16:45Speaker 2: art be as you could say, a Muff and Break,
- 16:47Speaker 2: because I feel like I'm going to get canceled if
- 16:49Speaker 2: i keep digging this whole any deeper. So we'll see
- 16:52Speaker 2: you guys on the flip side, because we're going to
- 16:54Speaker 2: be talking about one bad neighbors and two. This week,
- 16:57Speaker 2: you guys asked us about what to do about a
- 16:59Speaker 2: friend who stored things at your house long term but
- 17:01Speaker 2: doesn't offer you any cash for it. Guys, don't go anywhere.
- 17:10Speaker 3: Welcome back, everybody. Let's take a listen to this week's
- 17:13Speaker 3: money dilemma.
- 17:16Speaker 6: Hi, there have you got a money dilemma you just

- 17:30Speaker 6: and leave us a short voice recording and you might
- 17:33Speaker 6: just find yourself on the show. Now, let's take a
- 17:35Speaker 6: listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 17:39Speaker 7: Hi, I've got a question. I've got really really bad
- 17:41Speaker 7: neighbors living in next door to my house. They're in
- 17:45Speaker 7: commission housing. I've tried multiple things to try to get
- 17:49Speaker 7: them evicted. It's really a planing on my mental health
- 17:53Speaker 7: and fear for my safety. I bought this house, but
- 17:56Speaker 7: now I'm not sure if I should sell. I'll probably
- 17:59Speaker 7: have to say self for a loss. I spent a
- 18:01Speaker 7: lot of money on renovations. Do you know changing up
- 18:03Speaker 7: this house? Should I just cut my losses or and sell?
- 18:08Speaker 7: Or do I just keep trying to, you know, fight
- 18:11Speaker 7: my neighbors and try to take them to court?
- 18:14Speaker 4: Thank you, jeez, Louise, Well, that is such a good question.
- 18:19Speaker 4: I have a colleague in this exact situation.
- 18:21Speaker 2: We're missing so much context. I just I feel like
- 18:25Speaker 2: there's always three sides to a story. There's like their side,
- 18:27Speaker 2: your side, and the truth. And I'm not saying that
- 18:30Speaker 2: you're not telling the truth, but like we don't have
- 18:32Speaker 2: any conflict, why would you take them to court? Like
- 18:34Speaker 2: we need some we need the juice, Like what have
- 18:36Speaker 2: they done so that we can have an opinion? What's
- 18:39Speaker 2: going on with your colleague though?
- 18:40Speaker 4: Back So it's a very very similar situation. My colleague
- 18:43Speaker 4: just brought her, I believed, like a little unit in
- 18:46Speaker 4: like a block of units, and her downstairs neighbor is
- 18:49Speaker 4: like really causing her a lot of trouble. And that's
- 18:53Speaker 4: sometimes she actually is as well scared for her safety,
- 18:57Speaker 4: but she doesn't like she doesn't really know what to do.
- 18:59Speaker 2: And this is and so also I don't know when
- 19:01Speaker 2: you buy a property what the neighbors are. You just
- 19:03Speaker 2: don't know. And I also don't know.
- 19:06Speaker 4: I don't have advice for this because I would be
- 19:09Speaker 4: completely stuck. I guess, I guess, cell but I don't
- 19:12Speaker 4: know anything, so don't listen to me. But no, she's
- 19:14Speaker 4: in the exact same situation, and it's really weighing on
- 19:18Speaker 4: her mental health, and unfortunately it's such a tricky one
- 19:22Speaker 4: because you just I don't know where you'd go from here.
- 19:25Speaker 4: But I'm hoping you guys have more advised because I'm
- 19:27Speaker 4: being useless.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Yess.
- 19:29Speaker 5: Yeah, I just want to say I'm really sorry for
- 19:32Speaker 5: our listener, because buying a property is so excited and
- 19:36Speaker 5: I can only imagine the joy and the pride that
- 19:38Speaker 5: you would have felt buying this house and then moving in,
- 19:41Speaker 5: and then to go through whatever experience you're going through.
- 19:44Speaker 5: Nobody should ever ever feel unsafe in their own home,
- 19:48Speaker 5: and I can only imagine how hard that is and
- 19:50Speaker 5: how it would have ruined what should be such a
- 19:53Speaker 5: fantastic and exciting time for you. So I'm really sorry
- 19:56Speaker 5: that that is the case. It's just awful. I think
- 20:00Speaker 5: it's hard to say because obviously, if you're selling because
- 20:04Speaker 5: of the location that you know, you're not necessarily looking
- 20:08Speaker 5: at the ideal timing of the market. And if you
- 20:10Speaker 5: purchase recently, you might have to if you use any grants,
- 20:12Speaker 5: you might have to pay those back, depending on if
- 20:14Speaker 5: you're a first home buyer, and there's all of those
- 20:16Speaker 5: I guess financial considerations. But at the same time, I
- 20:20Speaker 5: might gut instinct, which again may not be the most logical,
- 20:24Speaker 5: but is just your safety needs to always be your
- 20:28Speaker 5: number one priority. And if you're saying that you're concerned
- 20:31Speaker 5: for that, that makes me concerned for you. It sounds
- 20:34Speaker 5: like she's tried to go through some form of official channel.
- 20:37Speaker 5: I'm assuming that's what she meant when she said that
- 20:39Speaker 5: she's tried to get the neighbor evicted. And without the
- 20:42Speaker 5: context of what they're doing, we can't really provide any
- 20:46Speaker 5: insight into what channels you can go through, like I'm assuming,
- 20:49Speaker 5: if they're doing something illegal, or if they're threatening you
- 20:51Speaker 5: in some way, if you haven't speak to the police,
- 20:54Speaker 5: you know, I would say, maintain a chain of records.
- 20:57Speaker 5: So it might feel really futile to keep reporting the
- 21:01Speaker 5: same thing, but sometimes, unfortunately the system can work in
- 21:05Speaker 5: a way where you need a certain amount of proof
- 21:08Speaker 5: or a certain historical record of things occurring regularly or frequently.
- 21:12Speaker 5: So even if it feels like you're getting nowhere, continue
- 21:16Speaker 5: reporting to whatever the relevant body may be, whether it's
- 21:20Speaker 5: you know, if they're renters, reporting it to their landlord
- 21:22Speaker 5: or their property manager if you can find that out, or.
- 21:25Speaker 3: To the police.
- 21:25Speaker 5: Or to whoever the I don't know, we don't know
- 21:28Speaker 5: the context, so it's hard to say where. But if
- 21:30Speaker 5: you can keep making reports above and beyond, all make
- 21:34Speaker 5: sure that you're safe. I would say, if you haven't,
- 21:37Speaker 5: maybe pop some security cameras in.
- 21:39Speaker 2: I was about to say the same, like, have you
- 21:41Speaker 2: got security cameras? Are you looking after your safety?
- 21:44Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 21:45Speaker 2: Right now? Because like moving, it's a privilege, right, Like
- 21:48Speaker 2: you've probably just spent every single cent you have on
- 21:51Speaker 2: this property. You probably can't just be like, oh, I'll
- 21:53Speaker 2: just go rent somewhere else, Like you're right, Jess, Like
- 21:55Speaker 2: what are you doing? Document? Document? Document, I'd be calling
- 21:58Speaker 2: the cops. I'd be getting everybody involved, to be honest.
- 22:01Speaker 5: Yeah, And you can get really on the security camera thing.
- 22:03Speaker 5: You can get really affordable. I know I even when
- 22:06Speaker 5: I was renting, I purchased ring. You can get them
- 22:08Speaker 5: on sale, usually at Bunnings or on Amazon, and you
- 22:11Speaker 5: don't have to hardwire them in. So if you don't
- 22:13Speaker 5: have the cash to get something installed that's really heavy duty,
- 22:15Speaker 5: you can get ones that you just screw into the
- 22:17Speaker 5: wall with some screws and bolts, and sometimes even just
- 22:20Speaker 5: the presence of cameras can be enough to deter people
- 22:23Speaker 5: from doing things that are a little bit sketchy, and
- 22:26Speaker 5: you can get ones that go inside your property too,
- 22:28Speaker 5: if that will make you feel more secure and safe.
- 22:30Speaker 3: But it is.
- 22:31Speaker 5: You're right, it's such a hard one because you don't
- 22:34Speaker 5: I mean, partly because we don't have the context, but
- 22:36Speaker 5: also because it's a rock and a hard place between.
- 22:39Speaker 5: Your safety should be your priority, but also like from
- 22:41Speaker 5: a financial perspective, just up and selling may or may
- 22:44Speaker 5: not from a financial angle, be the best choice.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's so hard.
- 22:50Speaker 5: But I just want to say I feel very sympathetic
- 22:53Speaker 5: and I'm really sorry that you're struggling with this, because
- 22:56Speaker 5: like the three of us are kind of struggling to
- 22:58Speaker 5: come up which to ourselves.
- 23:00Speaker 4: I do just want to say one quick thing though,
- 23:02Speaker 4: I guess if like obviously again like we don't really
- 23:04Speaker 4: have context, but if I feel sorry for the listener here,
- 23:06Speaker 4: I also kind of feel as though the neighbors themselves
- 23:10Speaker 4: if you get like the idea, like maybe the feeling
- 23:13Speaker 4: that they don't they don't have the I guess like
- 23:15Speaker 4: means to be living anywhere else or be able to
- 23:19Speaker 4: like if them getting evicted means that they become homeless
- 23:23Speaker 4: or something. I kind of also feel for them as well.
- 23:25Speaker 4: Maybe they didn't have the best upbringing, that's what's causing
- 23:29Speaker 4: their behavior or whatever it might be, you know what
- 23:31Speaker 4: I mean. I just want to also take a minute
- 23:33Speaker 4: to acknowledge that bad neighbors also may have a bad
- 23:36Speaker 4: story behind them or maybe in a tough situation, and
- 23:39Speaker 4: we don't actually always know, and you know, and I
- 23:42Speaker 4: do feel really awful for people out there that had
- 23:45Speaker 4: their future written for them before they were even born,
- 23:49Speaker 4: if that makes sense. I just want to take time
- 23:51Speaker 4: to acknowledge that. But I also feel really bad for
- 23:52Speaker 4: you listener. It's a very tricky situation.
- 23:54Speaker 3: Same neighbors as well.
- 23:55Speaker 5: Actually made me think of one other thing, which is
- 23:58Speaker 5: if you haven't spoken to your neighbors because you're a block,
- 24:00Speaker 5: speak to your neighbors because maybe they are taking steps,
- 24:03Speaker 5: maybe they're not taking steps. Sometimes if everybody bands together
- 24:07Speaker 5: like that can also be very impactful. They see what
- 24:09Speaker 5: they're doing, see if they've got any more information. The
- 24:13Speaker 5: safety in numbers too, So keeping an eye on your neighbors,
- 24:15Speaker 5: them keeping an eye out for you. It can be
- 24:17Speaker 5: nice just knowing that that's there for you, like your
- 24:20Speaker 5: other neighbors, not the bad neighbors obviously, but yeah, it's
- 24:22Speaker 5: it's such a hard one. I feel like I really
- 24:24Speaker 5: don't have a good answer.
- 24:25Speaker 2: I don't either, because there's no like perfect outcome here.
- 24:28Speaker 2: I mean, perfect outcome would be your neighbors move away, slay,
- 24:31Speaker 2: but that's probably not gonna happen. I had terrible neighbors
- 24:35Speaker 2: before I moved where I have moved to, and I
- 24:38Speaker 2: feel like I put that on the podcast a lot. Yes,
- 24:40Speaker 2: like they were horrendous, Like we're not talking like, oh,
- 24:45Speaker 2: I just didn't like these people. They would yell and
- 24:47Speaker 2: scream at us. They would like literally like I had
- 24:50Speaker 2: called the cops on them a number of times because
- 24:52Speaker 2: it was actually so unhinged. And whenever I'd tell people
- 24:56Speaker 2: the stories, they'd be like, what, like if you're a
- 24:59Speaker 2: close friend of mine, you know, and you've heard the
- 25:01Speaker 2: horror story anyway, so I so get it. We ended
- 25:05Speaker 2: up having the privilege of being able to move away
- 25:07Speaker 2: because that was a rental. But you know, if you're
- 25:10Speaker 2: not comfortable there, I would be looking at ways that
- 25:12Speaker 2: you can leave. Can you rent out the property, like
- 25:14Speaker 2: just because you spent a lot and renovated. It doesn't
- 25:16Speaker 2: mean you need to dispose of that asset either, Like
- 25:20Speaker 2: what can you do? How can this work? But yeah,
- 25:23Speaker 2: I'd go back to literally everything just said, like document everything,
- 25:26Speaker 2: call the cops when anything goes wrong, Like protect yourself
- 25:30Speaker 2: and put some cameras up, take photos of everything, make
- 25:33Speaker 2: sure it's really well documented. And if you can find
- 25:36Speaker 2: out who their landlord is, provide that to them and
- 25:40Speaker 2: work out what next steps would be from there, because
- 25:42Speaker 2: that's just not fair.
- 25:44Speaker 5: Yeah, it's such a hard place and we're sorry going
- 25:46Speaker 5: through that. Ye, please be safe above everything else. That's
- 25:50Speaker 5: all I can really.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Yeah, and if they are renting, a little sneaky tip
- 25:53Speaker 2: that I learned when I had bad neighbors is google
- 25:56Speaker 2: their address and it will usually come up with you know,
- 25:59Speaker 2: like the old real state, dot com, dot au listing
- 26:01Speaker 2: and will have the real estate agent who listed it.
- 26:04Speaker 2: You can call them and say, hey, do you still
- 26:07Speaker 2: you know manage one, two, three Boring Street and they'll
- 26:10Speaker 2: be like yeah, we do, and you go great, I
- 26:13Speaker 2: have a whole heap of stuff that's going to be
- 26:14Speaker 2: really interesting for you guys and the landlord, Like, you
- 26:18Speaker 2: don't even need to put me in contact with the landlord.
- 26:20Speaker 2: I just want to be able to provide this information
- 26:22Speaker 2: because you know, obviously they think they're getting away with it. Yeah, anyway,
- 26:26Speaker 2: that's me throwing other people under a bus. Let's move on, though,
- 26:30Speaker 2: because we have a community DM which I would be
- 26:33Speaker 2: really annoyed about this, So let's read it out. Hi,
- 26:37Speaker 2: she's on the money. I've got a bit of a
- 26:38Speaker 2: random question. If a friend asks to leave their stuff
- 26:42Speaker 2: at your house while they go one a three month
- 26:44Speaker 2: overseas holiday, should you charge them rent for keeping their stuff?
- 26:49Speaker 2: To this date, they still haven't booked a return flight,
- 26:51Speaker 2: and they've been gone since November twenty twenty three. They
- 26:54Speaker 2: stayed at my house for a couple of nights prior
- 26:56Speaker 2: to their flight, and I even drove them to the
- 26:59Speaker 2: city to catch the skybus to the airport. I've not
- 27:02Speaker 2: received a single dollar from this person. I wouldn't say
- 27:05Speaker 2: that they are a super close friend, but I've known
- 27:07Speaker 2: them since July last year. I am doing them a
- 27:10Speaker 2: huge favor storing their stuff at my house in my
- 27:12Speaker 2: spare room. Their stuff includes their bike in my garage,
- 27:16Speaker 2: several helmets, shoes and boots, a laptop, clothes, cooking and
- 27:20Speaker 2: groceries which are currently in my fridge and things like
- 27:23Speaker 2: snacks and toilet paper that are currently sitting in my cupboards.
- 27:27Speaker 2: What would you do and how would you go about
- 27:29Speaker 2: asking for money if they don't come back? Do I
- 27:32Speaker 2: have a right to sell all this stuff?
- 27:35Speaker 3: Interesting?
- 27:36Speaker 2: Interesting? This has gone real deep, real quick, Like you're
- 27:39Speaker 2: asking if you have a right to sell this stuff,
- 27:41Speaker 2: but you've.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Gone very weirdly.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Have you had a conversation with this person? Like why
- 27:46Speaker 2: are you asking me if you have a right to
- 27:48Speaker 2: sell someone's stuff before asking them when they're returning.
- 27:51Speaker 5: Which, by the way, abandoned property is I think like
- 27:53Speaker 5: a six month rule after you have contacted the relevant party.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Oh I see, I see, I see.
- 27:59Speaker 4: Yeah, this is a true I think personally, I it depends.
- 28:03Speaker 4: I guess how much space this is taking up. It
- 28:05Speaker 4: doesn't sound like it's taking up a whole lot of space,
- 28:07Speaker 4: but it's also like if it's like a one bedroom
- 28:09Speaker 4: apartment or a share house, it could be you know,
- 28:11Speaker 4: that's you know, a very crucial amount of space that
- 28:14Speaker 4: you could be using for other things. So I totally
- 28:15Speaker 4: get that. I guess my thing is if you hadn't
- 28:18Speaker 4: had a conversation ahead of time about them paying for
- 28:22Speaker 4: like storage fees. I guess you'd call it then I
- 28:26Speaker 4: wouldn't expect any money. If I had this conversation ahead
- 28:28Speaker 4: of time and I wasn't expecting storage fees, I wouldn't
- 28:31Speaker 4: be then expecting storage fees in three, four or five months,
- 28:35Speaker 4: no matter how long they took. Really, I guess like
- 28:37Speaker 4: they're outliving their best. But I think if you had
- 28:40Speaker 4: that in mind already, that you were going to get
- 28:41Speaker 4: storage fees, maybe there were some sort of conversation and
- 28:45Speaker 4: I would like that context but totally find that is
- 28:47Speaker 4: a bit of a tricky one. But I guess at
- 28:48Speaker 4: this point if you hadn't discussed it, I wouldn't expect it. Yeah,
- 28:53Speaker 4: maybe they maybe have a conversation.
- 28:55Speaker 5: Which yeah, like did was there a conversation at the
- 28:57Speaker 5: start around how long you were holding their stuff?
- 28:59Speaker 1: For?
- 28:59Speaker 2: Three months?
- 29:00Speaker 3: So I think, and well, so they've just hit the
- 29:02Speaker 3: three month mark.
- 29:03Speaker 5: Yeah really, So I feel like, if anything, just dropping
- 29:06Speaker 5: the message and saying, hey, like, I know when we
- 29:08Speaker 5: first chatted, you said about three months. We've just recently
- 29:12Speaker 5: you know, I've got a dog, my partner's like, any
- 29:14Speaker 5: excuse that you can think of.
- 29:15Speaker 2: You don't even need an excuse. So I'm just wondering
- 29:17Speaker 2: when you're coming to gather stuff.
- 29:18Speaker 5: Like well, yeah, or if you want to be a
- 29:21Speaker 5: bit softer, I yes, you could just say, oh, I
- 29:23Speaker 5: really need the space, so we can't hold it for
- 29:24Speaker 5: too much longer. When do you want to come and
- 29:26Speaker 5: grab it? And so then the option is either they go,
- 29:29Speaker 5: oh my god, I can't come back, and you go, okay,
- 29:31Speaker 5: would you like me to sell it? Would you like
- 29:32Speaker 5: to pay for a storage facility? You know, here are
- 29:35Speaker 5: a few different options for you. But I think like
- 29:37Speaker 5: you've really jumped the gun on can I sell this stuff?
- 29:40Speaker 3: Can I?
- 29:42Speaker 5: You know, it sounds like you're kind of just coming
- 29:44Speaker 5: to be weird. It's going to be weird, And I
- 29:46Speaker 5: think like, maybe you're feeling weird because they haven't communicated
- 29:49Speaker 5: with you, which I totally understand. But I think, like,
- 29:51Speaker 5: if they haven't communicated with you, let's like put our
- 29:54Speaker 5: big girl pants on and we'll start the communication, which
- 29:56Speaker 5: I know is out answer a lot of the time communicate,
- 29:59Speaker 5: but you'd be surprised any things you can fix by
- 30:01Speaker 5: having a simple and kind conversation. So I think just
- 30:05Speaker 5: like bringing it up me like Hey, Like, I I know,
- 30:08Speaker 5: we said three months. It's been about three months. I
- 30:09Speaker 5: can't of need the space, So what's the go Yeah.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I think given the diversity of the stuff that they've
- 30:14Speaker 2: left at your house, it tells me that you consented
- 30:16Speaker 2: to this at the start, Like they didn't just come
- 30:19Speaker 2: to your house before they went to the airport and
- 30:21Speaker 2: accidentally leave some stuff and then they're like, oh sorry,
- 30:23Speaker 2: I'll get it when i'm home, and it was a
- 30:24Speaker 2: bit awkward, Like you've got a bike, you've got a laptop,
- 30:27Speaker 2: you've got their shoes, you've got random things in your
- 30:30Speaker 2: house that are theirs. So I'm assuming that you said, yeah, yeah,
- 30:34Speaker 2: you can leave them at my house for now. What
- 30:36Speaker 2: you're now telling me is that your expectations have changed.
- 30:38Speaker 2: But I'm assuming you haven't communicated those expectation changes, and
- 30:42Speaker 2: maybe you're a little bit frustrated with it now because
- 30:44Speaker 2: you might not have thought about charging them at the start,
- 30:46Speaker 2: and then you're like, hold on, she could have put
- 30:47Speaker 2: in storage and she'd have to pay for this. So
- 30:50Speaker 2: I feel like you need to have a conversation about like, hey,
- 30:53Speaker 2: when are you coming back, Like when you say they
- 30:55Speaker 2: still haven't booked a return flight. Does that mean you're
- 30:57Speaker 2: in communications? Or we're guessing, like have they actually what
- 31:02Speaker 2: does that mean? So I would literally just be like, hey,
- 31:04Speaker 2: you just wanted to check in. When are you coming home?
- 31:07Speaker 2: For a starter, And then they might say, oh my gosh,
- 31:09Speaker 2: like we haven't booked flights, but we need to in
- 31:11Speaker 2: the next week. We've been putting it off. Or they
- 31:13Speaker 2: might say, oh my gosh, we're loving it. We're going
- 31:15Speaker 2: to stay here another month and a half, at which
- 31:17Speaker 2: point you go, cool, what are we going to do
- 31:19Speaker 2: about your stuff? Like, there's stuff in my house. Do
- 31:22Speaker 2: you want me to like move it to a friend's place,
- 31:24Speaker 2: or do you want me to give it to your parents?
- 31:27Speaker 2: Do you want me to put it in a storage
- 31:28Speaker 2: unit for you so that it's all together and safe.
- 31:30Speaker 2: I'm just worried about breaking it, or you know, whatever
- 31:34Speaker 2: it is that makes you feel comfortable in having that conversation,
- 31:37Speaker 2: but I do. I don't know what it is about
- 31:39Speaker 2: this message, and I'm sorry to the person who has
- 31:42Speaker 2: written this in but I find it very strange that
- 31:44Speaker 2: you are going from going yep, cool, I let them
- 31:47Speaker 2: keep their stuff. Also, should I be charging them? We'll
- 31:50Speaker 2: have a chat with them about that, but also can
- 31:52Speaker 2: I sell their stuff? Like oh, I.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Don't escalated quickly.
- 31:55Speaker 2: I know, Like Jesse, if I asked to leave my
- 31:57Speaker 2: bike at your place because I was traveling and it
- 32:00Speaker 2: was all Riggie did and you were like, oh, yeah,
- 32:02Speaker 2: they you can leave it in my garage, I just
- 32:05Speaker 2: would have thought it was fine because you're one of
- 32:07Speaker 2: my girlfriends, and yeah, my bike's just in your garage.
- 32:10Speaker 2: I'm not worried that you're going to sell it. And
- 32:12Speaker 2: then that just is another layer of like imagine if
- 32:14Speaker 2: I came home and said, hey, Jess, can I come
- 32:16Speaker 2: get my bike and just is like I saw it. Actually,
- 32:20Speaker 2: I'd be like what and just to be like, well,
- 32:22Speaker 2: you said you'd be gone for three months and you
- 32:23Speaker 2: were gone for four, I'd be like, yeah, you know
- 32:26Speaker 2: what I mean, like weird.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Your space back.
- 32:30Speaker 5: But I think, like, not at the expense of dogging
- 32:33Speaker 5: your friend.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Do you have slight suspicion if they've only known each
- 32:38Speaker 4: other since July that maybe this other person doesn't have
- 32:42Speaker 4: a lot of other close friends because I don't know, Like,
- 32:45Speaker 4: I think that if they had other people to leave
- 32:47Speaker 4: it with, they would probably go for that option over
- 32:50Speaker 4: someone they've not known for that long, You know what
- 32:52Speaker 4: I mean, Because it's it's a big thing to trust someone.
- 32:54Speaker 5: With all your stuff because what if they sold it?
- 32:59Speaker 2: So that's the other thing I'm I'm like, well let
- 33:01Speaker 2: them be Yeah, I'm just so confused. Why have you
- 33:04Speaker 2: got their groceries in your fridge?
- 33:07Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 33:08Speaker 2: I think that's I feel like you're allowed to throw
- 33:10Speaker 2: out the groceries, Like is there a half eaten jarriff pickles?
- 33:13Speaker 2: Why are we holding this?
- 33:14Speaker 4: Yes, they might not be perishable, so so maybe you check.
- 33:17Speaker 2: The why are they in the fridge?
- 33:19Speaker 4: Yeah? A good question.
- 33:20Speaker 3: Whateveryone else say?
- 33:21Speaker 2: Obviously, we asked some questions because if anything, we need
- 33:24Speaker 2: the drama. He said, do you think that you can
- 33:27Speaker 2: charge rent for this? Forty two percent said yes, but
- 33:29Speaker 2: fifty eight percent of you said no. We said, do
- 33:32Speaker 2: you think it's okay to sell this stuff? If the
- 33:34Speaker 2: person doesn't return after a certain amount of time, twenty
- 33:37Speaker 2: two percent of you said, yeah, they abandoned the stuff there.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Twenty two percent.
- 33:42Speaker 3: If you need to call your friend, I don't know it,
- 33:44Speaker 3: I would say abandoned.
- 33:45Speaker 4: Yeah, if they ghost you and it's there for like
- 33:50Speaker 4: two years.
- 33:51Speaker 5: Like if you've tried to message them several times and
- 33:55Speaker 5: they haven't. Then yeah, okay, maybe.
- 33:57Speaker 2: But you're ghosted. Absolutely different story. But you're telling me
- 34:00Speaker 2: that this friend doesn't have flights booked to come home,
- 34:03Speaker 2: and that tells me that you've been in communication with them.
- 34:06Speaker 2: So maybe I'm reading a little bit too much into it,
- 34:08Speaker 2: but I feel a little bit weird about it. But
- 34:11Speaker 2: seventy eight percent of you said no, they trusted you
- 34:13Speaker 2: to keep their stuff safe, which I'm on that age.
- 34:17Speaker 2: I agree. We said, if you said yes to selling
- 34:20Speaker 2: their stuff, how long do you have to have it
- 34:22Speaker 2: before you sell it? Ten percent of you said three months?
- 34:25Speaker 2: And it's sold three months. I'm screwed. But like, what
- 34:29Speaker 2: the hell that was? That was the expectation my friend
- 34:31Speaker 2: actually set with.
- 34:32Speaker 5: You to the day, Like it is July sixth th
- 34:37Speaker 5: they at two pm.
- 34:38Speaker 3: It's officially been three months. See you later. I watching
- 34:40Speaker 3: the clocks.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Did your friends say you could sell the stuff after
- 34:43Speaker 2: three I'm so confused. Twenty two percent of you said
- 34:46Speaker 2: six months. I would say fair. If they have fully
- 34:50Speaker 2: ghosted you and we have had absolutely no communication, and
- 34:54Speaker 2: you have tried to reach out to them via Facebook, messenger, Instagram,
- 34:59Speaker 2: text message, WhatsApp, an email, and you've done all of
- 35:02Speaker 2: this and heard nothing back. Then okay, sure, And then
- 35:04Speaker 2: sixty eight percent of you said after a year again,
- 35:07Speaker 2: I'm assuming if they have been ghosted, not like they
- 35:10Speaker 2: haven't still away. In the spicy bit, we asked, well,
- 35:14Speaker 2: what's your two cents? And here are some of the responses.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Someone said, you should have worked out rent prior. If
- 35:20Speaker 2: you want rent now, you need to communicate that. Agree,
- 35:22Speaker 2: this is a very surprising response. Someone said, that's something
- 35:26Speaker 2: you should have discussed beforehand. I think you're the drama.
- 35:30Speaker 3: Oh am, I the drama.
- 35:33Speaker 2: But like, yeah, I also think you're being the drama.
- 35:37Speaker 3: I kind of agree a little bit.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Someone said the timeline should have been clearly communicated. A
- 35:41Speaker 2: friend isn't just a free storage shed. Someone said, don't
- 35:45Speaker 2: offer to help a friend if you're expecting something in return.
- 35:49Speaker 4: Took a point, sure, yes, sure, yes, that's literally my thought, like,
- 35:54Speaker 4: did you offer this?
- 35:54Speaker 2: Did you say, oh, I've got a spare room you
- 35:56Speaker 2: can put it in. Yeah, because I would not immediately
- 35:59Speaker 2: expect if you said, oh, V you can put in
- 36:01Speaker 2: my spare room. I wouldn't be like, okay, so what's
- 36:03Speaker 2: the rent on? That, But it's just not how the
- 36:05Speaker 2: communications go, right. It's all about the tone of that
- 36:08Speaker 2: conversation exactly. You don't go, hey, Beck, do you want
- 36:11Speaker 2: to come down to my place for the weekend to
- 36:12Speaker 2: be really good? And you go yeah, I'd love that, vee,
- 36:14Speaker 2: and I go yes. So it's one hundred bucks a night. Yeah.
- 36:19Speaker 2: Also there's a service fee anyway. Weird. So someone else said,
- 36:24Speaker 2: it doesn't sound like that much stuff. I think you
- 36:26Speaker 2: might be being a little bit over dramatic, gentle. Gentle, right,
- 36:30Speaker 2: I'm just reading.
- 36:31Speaker 3: Other people's everyone's safe.
- 36:35Speaker 2: Today, doesn't feel that safe. Someone said you need to
- 36:38Speaker 2: communicate with your friend and ask when they're back, Otherwise
- 36:40Speaker 2: it would be very fair of you to ask them
- 36:42Speaker 2: to sort another storage option. Yeah, I think that's fair.
- 36:46Speaker 2: They said, why did you bother saying yes? If this
- 36:48Speaker 2: is how you feel, you should have said no from
- 36:50Speaker 2: the start, which I think is very fair. Someone said
- 36:53Speaker 2: eat their groceries.
- 36:56Speaker 5: Honestly, like unless they're like really really old, in which
- 37:01Speaker 5: case maybe don't.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Yeah. Someone else said, a friend left his couch at
- 37:04Speaker 2: my place when he moved overseas. It's now my couch.
- 37:07Speaker 4: Money in that's the other thing, like when does it
- 37:10Speaker 4: become your own property after you've communicated, after you community.
- 37:14Speaker 4: Absolutely everything's after communication.
- 37:16Speaker 2: So someone else said, you're a bad person if you
- 37:19Speaker 2: go and sell their things without communicating.
- 37:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I've got to kind of agree with them.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:23Speaker 4: Sure.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Someone said take the food, use the toilet paper. That
- 37:26Speaker 2: stuff's getting lucrative, and then at least you've sort of
- 37:28Speaker 2: got something out of this.
- 37:29Speaker 4: Yeah, use to I reckon, use the toilet paper. That's fine.
- 37:34Speaker 2: I just don't know why the toilet paper's gone into storage.
- 37:38Speaker 2: So true, it doesn't make sense to me. But most
- 37:41Speaker 2: of the other conversations are literally communicate with your friend,
- 37:46Speaker 2: Like I can't tell you how many of them are,
- 37:48Speaker 2: Like why haven't you asked them? Why haven't you spoken
- 37:50Speaker 2: to them? Why haven't you communicated? You need to have
- 37:52Speaker 2: clearer communication. So you think that's going to be the
- 37:55Speaker 2: main takeaway from this is that you need to step
- 37:58Speaker 2: up and have a good conversation with your friend about
- 38:01Speaker 2: when they're going to come back and what your expectations are,
- 38:04Speaker 2: even if those expectations have changed totally. You can set
- 38:07Speaker 2: your own boundaries. It's not up to us to say, oh,
- 38:09Speaker 2: I wouldn't do that, or I wouldn't do this. That's fine,
- 38:11Speaker 2: but you have to communicate it.
- 38:13Speaker 4: Also, if the listener is listening, please give us an update.
- 38:16Speaker 4: I actually really really invested.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, can we have photos of this stuff?
- 38:20Speaker 3: Well, let you know if we get an update.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Can you show us what groceries they left? I feel
- 38:24Speaker 2: like it's strange she.
- 38:25Speaker 4: Was the toils paper two. I'm curious about the TWI
- 38:27Speaker 4: was it.
- 38:27Speaker 3: Like an unopened roll or something.
- 38:30Speaker 4: Who gives a crap that it can be a little
- 38:32Speaker 4: bit expensive?
- 38:33Speaker 2: I get some all right. I think that's all we
- 38:35Speaker 2: have time for today, guys, which is very sad because
- 38:39Speaker 2: it is my last episode before I go on Matt leave.
- 38:42Speaker 2: So instead of saying we'll see you on Monday, bright
- 38:44Speaker 2: and early for our money, dret which we will because
- 38:46Speaker 2: I've pre recorded all of them. If you thought I
- 38:49Speaker 2: was going anywhere wrong, she's magic wrong, I'm not magic.
- 38:52Speaker 3: I am organized.
- 38:54Speaker 2: No, that sounds really nice as well. I'm probably certified insane.
- 38:59Speaker 2: And I've pre recorded all of them for you, so
- 39:02Speaker 2: you are welcome, but have the best time. I will
- 39:05Speaker 2: be back in six or so weeks, and I am
- 39:08Speaker 2: so excited to share my mini with you. But also
- 39:11Speaker 2: I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to be creeping in
- 39:13Speaker 2: the Instagram. I'm going to be on Facebook like I'm watching.
- 39:17Speaker 2: I can't get rid of it.
- 39:18Speaker 5: Have fun, guys, Bye bye.
