- 0:08You think your silence isn't doing anything.
- 0:11You think they pulled away or broke up with me so they must be
- 0:15relieved, unbothered, maybe already moving on with your life
- 0:20while you're the one left to suffer.
- 0:22But no, that is not always what happens.
- 0:25Because when you stop chasing an avoidant, the silence starts
- 0:30doing something that they never expected.
- 0:33Of course, at first it's going to feel like relief, but after
- 0:36that it becomes the exact thing that forces them to confront
- 0:41what they lost, what they depended on, and what they were
- 0:45running from the entire time. So in this video, I'm going to
- 0:49tell you exactly what your silence does to an avoidant.
- 0:53So stay tuned if you're new here.
- 0:55Hi, my name is Lucia. I'm a dating and relationship
- 0:58expert specializing in helping you get your ex back or to get
- 1:02over your ex. And if you're not you, you're
- 1:05part of my no contact Army and welcome back.
- 1:07I hope you've been a good little soldier.
- 1:10All right, so you have to understand that when you get
- 1:13involved with an avoidant, there's this invisible script
- 1:17running in the background. At first, everything feels
- 1:21promising, right? There's chemistry, there's
- 1:24interest, there's moments of closeness that make you think
- 1:27that this could become something real.
- 1:29But then over time, you start noticing the wall.
- 1:36They hold back, they go cold, they become hard to read, and
- 1:41they pull away just when things are getting closer.
- 1:44And because you're trying to make sense of it, you start to
- 1:47turn it inward. Maybe I said too much, maybe I
- 1:51expected too much. Maybe they're not as interested
- 1:55as I thought. And that's where people get
- 1:57completely confused. Because when an avoidant pulls
- 2:01away or breaks up with you, it looks like indifference.
- 2:04It looks like they don't care, like they just want distance and
- 2:07freedom and an exit. But looks can be very misleading
- 2:14here. Avoidance want distance, yes,
- 2:17but they don't actually want you gone.
- 2:20That's the paradox. They can feel overwhelmed by
- 2:24closeness, but they also become attached to what your attention
- 2:29does for them. Because your attention comforts
- 2:32them. It validates them.
- 2:34It reassures them that they matter, that they're wanted,
- 2:37that someone is still emotionally invested.
- 2:41So while they're pushing you away on one level, they're also
- 2:44relying on your pursuit on another.
- 2:47Yes, I know it's madding. And that's why this dynamic is
- 2:51so confusing. Because the very thing that they
- 2:54act burdened by is the very thing that's speeding them
- 2:59emotionally. They crave connection, but
- 3:02intimacy scares them. They want love, but control,
- 3:06feel safer. They want closeness, but only
- 3:09until closeness starts making them feel exposed.
- 3:12So they keep you close enough to feel secure, but far enough away
- 3:18to avoid being vulnerable. Now, another big part of this
- 3:21dynamic is the mirror effect. When you care about someone, you
- 3:26reflect something back to them. You reflect their value, their
- 3:31desirability, their best qualities.
- 3:34And they see it in how happy you are to hear from them, how warm
- 3:38you are when they show up, and how much emotional energy you're
- 3:42investing in them. So when you keep pursuing an
- 3:45avoidant, you're constantly handing them this mirror.
- 3:49And as long as that mirror is there, they don't have to face
- 3:53themselves. They don't have to sit with
- 3:55their emotional unavailability, with how often they deliberately
- 4:00destroy closeness. They don't have to sit with the
- 4:03emptiness that comes after distance.
- 4:07They can keep feeling like they're in control.
- 4:10Your attention softens the blow. It keeps telling them, hey you,
- 4:14you still matter, you're still wanted, you still have power
- 4:18here. But the second you go silent,
- 4:22that mirror breaks and suddenly they're left with the one thing
- 4:27that they spend so much time in their life trying to avoid
- 4:32themselves. And that's what your science
- 4:35does. It doesn't just remove pressure,
- 4:37it removes protection. And by the way, if you're
- 4:41dealing with an avoidant or with any type of X and you would like
- 4:45my help personally to get your X back, you can contact me at
- 4:49theartoflove.net/coaching and we will send you the rates.
- 4:53They're not on the website and the clickable link is underneath
- 4:56every single video and podcast. OK, let's get back to that
- 4:59invisible script I mentioned. So most avoidance are not
- 5:04reacting only to you. They're reacting to old fears,
- 5:08old defenses, old wiring. But that doesn't mean that you
- 5:12weren't pulled into the pattern, because once they start
- 5:16distancing, you likely started compensating.
- 5:20They pulled away, you leaned in, they got colder, you tried
- 5:24harder, they became inconsistent.
- 5:27You looked for reassurance. They withdrew.
- 5:30You chased not because you're weak, but because you were
- 5:33activated. Their behavior triggered your
- 5:36own fears about worth, lovability, and loss.
- 5:40So now both people are reacting from their wounds, and both
- 5:45people think the other one is to blame.
- 5:47In your mind, they're cold, inconsistent, selfish,
- 5:52impossible to trust. In their mind, you're too
- 5:54emotional, too needy, too demanding, too much.
- 5:58But usually the bigger problem is the script.
- 6:00They feel overwhelmed, so they run.
- 6:02You feel abandoned, so you pursue.
- 6:04They feel more pressure, so they withdraw harder.
- 6:07You feel more panic, so they push more and the connection
- 6:10gets destroyed by the pattern. This is why no contact changes
- 6:15everything. This is exactly why chasing
- 6:18never fixes this, because the more you chase, the less they
- 6:21have to confront losing you. They stay focused on escape and
- 6:27getting relief from your emotions.
- 6:28So even if they care, they're not really dealing with the
- 6:32loss, they're dealing with the intensity.
- 6:34That's why walking away matters. Not to manipulate them or punish
- 6:38them or play games, but because it's the only way to interrupt
- 6:42the script. And once you stop chasing, they
- 6:46can't organize the whole relationship around escaping you
- 6:49because you're not chasing them. And by the way, if you would
- 6:53like some help with not chasing them and staying in no contact,
- 6:58you can check out my apps Silencio, which is available in
- 7:01both the App Store and on Google Play.
- 7:03And the link to that is underneath every single video
- 7:05and podcast. And you can also check out my
- 7:07book No Contact Secrets, available of course, at
- 7:10nocontactsecrets.com where you can read 2 free chapters before
- 7:15you purchase the book. OK, so as I was saying.
- 7:17So now they have to face something else.
- 7:20Your absence. Now, at first avoidance are not
- 7:25going to feel your absence. As I said earlier, they feel
- 7:27reliefs. The pressure's off, the
- 7:29expectations are gone. The emotional debt feels lifted.
- 7:32They can breathe again. And this is where a lot of
- 7:35people start to panic and they ruin everything because they
- 7:37sense that relief and they think, see, I knew it, they
- 7:41never cared. No, that first wave of relief is
- 7:46real, but it's temporary. Because relief isn't the same as
- 7:49peace. Relief just means that the
- 7:51stimulus is gone. It doesn't mean the attachment
- 7:54is gone. And once the nervous system
- 7:57settles down, something else starts creeping in.
- 8:00The silence. And this is where your silence
- 8:03starts doing it's real work. Because at first they were
- 8:07focused on your neededness, but now they're forced to deal with
- 8:09your absence. At first they were focused on
- 8:12escaping the intensity, and now they're left with what's
- 8:14missing. And when your attention
- 8:17disappears, they lose the thing that they've been quietly using
- 8:21to regulate the whole time. And they probably didn't even
- 8:24know it. You were the dopamine hit.
- 8:27You were the validation. You were the 1 still showing up
- 8:31no matter how much they pushed you away.
- 8:33And now all of that's gone, and their internal structure starts
- 8:39to wobble. And here's the irony.
- 8:41They thought that distance would protect them, but now the very
- 8:46strategy that they trusted most starts creating the exact
- 8:50suffering they were trying to avoid.
- 8:52Because when your silence gets loud, they're no longer buffered
- 8:57by your presence, by your attention, or your pursuit.
- 9:00They're left alone with the self they kept running back to for
- 9:04safety. But if they're not healed,
- 9:07that's not peace, that's fear. That's loneliness.
- 9:11That's old pain. So the place they ran to for
- 9:14protection starts to feel like a prison.
- 9:18So now they're not reacting to your presence anymore.
- 9:21They're haunted by your absence. And that's a very different
- 9:24emotional experience. That's why you have to stay in
- 9:27no contact. So instead of viewing you only
- 9:30as a source of pressure, they start remembering the good
- 9:33moments. They remember how safe you made
- 9:34them feel. Your warmth, your loyalty, your
- 9:37consistency, your emotional generosity.
- 9:40And with time, the mind starts to soften painful memories and
- 9:44highlight the emotional comfort. So they stop focusing only on
- 9:49what felt overwhelming, and they start remembering what felt
- 9:52good. And this is when the pedestal
- 9:55that they're standing on starts to crumble.
- 9:56Because now they're not being chased anymore.
- 9:59Now they're not in control of the connection.
- 10:02Now they're the one who has to wonder, well, do they still
- 10:05care? Are they moving on?
- 10:07Did I lose someone important? Will I ever get them back?
- 10:10And when they realize they're not over you, that's when many
- 10:13avoidance start spiraling internally.
- 10:16Not necessarily outwards or dramatically, but intimidately.
- 10:19Yes, because now they have a problem that they cannot solve
- 10:24through distance because they thought that pulling away would
- 10:28bring peace, and instead it created a different kind of
- 10:31pain. And when that emotional crash
- 10:34happens, the brain starts looking for what's missing and
- 10:37starts circling back to the person who used to make them
- 10:41feel grounded, wanted, and emotionally safe.
- 10:43And that person is you. And that's when curiosity turns
- 10:48into longing, and that's when silence starts working in your
- 10:52favor instead of against you. And this is when they might
- 10:55begin to realize that you were never the burden that they made
- 10:58you out to be. In their mind, you were the
- 11:00person who kept loving them while they were busy defending
- 11:03themselves from love. But you got to keep this in
- 11:06mind. Missing you is not enough.
- 11:08Just because an avoidant misses you, it doesn't mean that
- 11:11they're ready for a healthy relationship.
- 11:14Because missing you is not the same as changing, and reaching
- 11:17out is not the same as being ready.
- 11:19And some avoidance do come back, but they come back for different
- 11:23reasons. Some come back because they
- 11:26truly realized your value. Some because they hated losing
- 11:30access, or their egos bruised, or because silence makes them
- 11:35anxious, or because they want relief but not repair.
- 11:39So that's why your standard has to be higher than, oh, they
- 11:42contacted me. Oh, I want them to contact me.
- 11:44No, it has to be beyond that. The real question is, are they
- 11:48willing to come back with intention?
- 11:50Are they willing to be clear, to take accountability, to do the
- 11:54work that's required, to stop repeating this vicious cycle?
- 11:58Because if they want a future with you, they don't just need
- 12:01to reach out, they need to earn you back.
- 12:05So if you were wondering what your silence does to an
- 12:08avoidant, don't assume it's not doing anything.
- 12:11A lot of the time, your silence is the first thing that truly
- 12:15forces them to feel the loss. They may not admit it, they may
- 12:18not show it, they may not even understand what the heck is
- 12:22happening to them. But once you stop chasing, the
- 12:24script starts to break. And when the script breaks,
- 12:28they're no longer dealing with your presence, they're dealing
- 12:31with your absence. And for an avoidant, that can be
- 12:34way more destabilizing than they ever expected.
- 12:38So now I'd like to hear from you.
- 12:39Do you have any questions or comments about anything I've
- 12:41said in this video? And in the meantime, be sure to
